Quaint Kew coffee and cake shop. Good savoury options as well. Friendly team. OK coffee, good food (lunch) and great cakes

I love the cakes here, the strawberry tarts are absolutely divine, the raspberry mousse and cheesecakes regularly appear on my dinner table when I have guests. The general staff are helpful and great to deal with. Definitely worth a try. Keep in mind the strawberry tarts are made to order, but I promise they are worth it!

Cocoa is not bad. I've never felt it's been a particularly positive or negative experience getting coffee. Coffee is not bad. Does feel a bit cramped inside, could they have an area where you wait for your take away coffee?

Bought a cake šŸŽ‚ from there, tastes great. The ladies there was very nice and polite. They were about to close the shop but they said ok we happy to help. Big thanks.

Lovely local coffee with freshly made cakes and pastries. Great coffee and friendly staff with really useful opening hours. Accessible parking and trams make this an excellent refreshing meeting place.

Amazing take home cakes especially the raspberry cheesecake, praline cheesecake and (chocolate) pleasure dome! They taste fresh with real ingredients. The smaller cakes are also great - we've had the lemon tart/meringue, vanilla slice and carrot cake. The small lolly covered cupcakes are a hit with young children!

I ordered a cake for my birthday. The staff on the phone and in the cafe were very pleasant and courteous. The flourless orange cake with chocolate ganache and topped with a chocolate plaque and flowers etc. was a hit!! My party guests loved it and Iā€™ve luckily got a couple of slices left to enjoy this week. Thankyou ļæ½ļæ½

Lovely coffee, nice croissants, the cakes in the window look awesome and so tempting too.

Gorgeous cake last night for a surprise birthday dinner at the Skinny Dog Hotel. Tiramisu, personally delivered in plenty of time, great service, thank you!

The best cakes in Melbourne. The Pleasure Dome was a huge hit for my wife's birthday! Thanks team Cocoa

Nice cakes, Great foods, Excellent services ^^

I didn't really love this place. It was more of a cafe with not so great patisseries and desserts. I found that the pricing for that food was much more than it should have been.

We got the hazelnut cake for my mumā€™s birthday. The top is covered with a layer of hazelnut praline and the cake itself has layers of sponge with chocolate mousse. Weā€™re glad that my mum really enjoyed the cake!

On first entering the cafe, it is a little bit small and dark; not the most modern looking cafe interior expected, nor is the display of the food the most appealing. However, the small cakes ordered from the restaurant were extremely delicious and creativeā€“ brownie points for including bold chocolate and nut flavours. There larger cakesĀ are slightly expensive, and I reckon I could see the same, or a better result, from neighbouring cafes, however, I am a large fan of their small cakes (particularly their signature Pleasure Dome) which I do highly recommend you try!

Was very lucky enough to try out 2 of Cocoa Patisserie's signature cakes at a birthday celebration. Just looking at the cakes were mouth watering. The cakes looked high quality and well decorated and wasn't too sweet, so it definitely suits all taste buds. Personally, I found their New York Cheesecake quite heavy, as I'm not too much a fan of cheesecakes. On the other hand, the Hazelnut praline was super delicious. It was hazelnut sponge filled with layers of chocolate mousse and sprinkles of hazelnut praline. The hazelnut praline was well caramelised, crunchy and brought you this great aftertaste with the cake. Definitely can't wait to try out more cakes from Cocoa.

Beautiful Patisserie with outdoor seating at the back. Came for lunch and enjoyed the bacon quiche very tasty and shared the Hazelnut Praline (GF) šŸ‘Œ
Almond coffees were also very good.
We ordered 4 cakes from Cocoa for a work function and they were all superb. Top quality with a good balance of flavours and textures. I will be adding this place to my must-visit list.
Highlights for me were the Caramel Nut Cheescake and the very chocolatey Pleasure Dome.

While Kelisi did a grocery shop she sent me on a very particular mission. She had a craving for ginger bread men/women (she wasnā€™t fussy). Fortunately Cocoa Patisserie was my first stop and came up with the goods straight away. These cute decorated ginger people were exactly what KD was after and although she and I have just now dismembered them they didnā€™t die in vein. Not a full on ginger kick but certainly an enjoyable biscuit with a cup of tea in the afternoon.

Cocoa Patisserie has a number of other treats including a very delicious looking vanilla slice that I will just have to try the next time I get sent out on a biscuit buying mission. Nice looking savoury lunch items and a small amount of seating inside for those who want to sit in.

Wow
The cakes here are amazing. Following a recommendation from a friend I called and spoke to the owner to ask about having a cake made with a couple of specifics wanted in and on the cake to feed 50 people and had to meet allergy requirements.
The owner got back to me following discussions with the chef within 15 minutes.
The cake was amazing, absolutely delicious and the service spot on.
Will definitely be using Cocoa Parisserie for celebration cakes from now on.
The coffee is magnificent too.

Well done and thank you for your fantastic service and thank you to the chef.

For what it's worth I find myself returning here.

For the flat whites, the hot chocolates, pots of extra strong tea. And in hot weather their creamy iced counterparts.

It's quick cozy and popular.

While the coffee was ok, the woman making the coffee called out to me like a dog to come and have it's food. Just completely lacking in any manners. Then when I asked if I could have a stirrer to add my second sugar (only one was added), she asked that I bring the coffee back. When I come into a cafe to enjoy a coffee, I'm paying for the service and the coffee. The man who took my order was much nicer. I probably won't be coming back.
Nice little cafe the old owners were much better but it's still okay. At the moment I would not rate it any better than average. I hope it will improve in the future.

Love Cocoa for birthday cakes and a treat.

A friend's birthday snuck up on us and we'd forgotten to order a cake! Oops! Nipped down to Cocoa on Sunday morning and they delivered with a small New York cheesecake and Milk chocolate mousse cake. Both cakes were lovely, keeping it simple yet delicious.

The single cheesecakes are a great size for afternoon tea. Ordered 5 and the 6th was free - perfect! The cold set cheesecakes are delicious and there is a good variety of flavours.

We have previously ordered the raspberry mousse cake however found it to be a little dry on the outside and weren't big fans of the overall taste.

The vanilla slice I purchased from your store has many black dots in its surface and inside. I got an upset stomach and had trouble withĀ diarrhea. If the cake is not fresh, please stop selling it. Thanks.

Loved the Pleasure dome cake. Was searching for a last minute cake place and I am really happy that I found this place. The pleasure dome cake was a big big hit for me and my colleagues! Definitely recommend this place if you looking for something different than the usual... :)
Jojo
food was ok. but the service was too badļ¼Œnot nice to the customer we pay money to get a poo faceļ¼donot like the staff in the cafe. won't come back again!

I got special cake from here. Its tasty and she knows what i really wanted. Im totally satisfied. I will come again and order other cakes as well. Thanks
Coffee And Food
The only great cake shop in Kew Junction. All our past few years birthday cakes were ordered at this shop. Pleasure dome cake is always a hit with the family. Lots of staff changing and coffee can go better. Lunch time has alot to offer such as baguettes, pies and wraps. Lovely place to have coffee break at the courtyard šŸŽ‚

Not enough FINESSE, too rich for my liking ...

It's a great spot to tamed your Chocolate craving, especially the backyard rather than the inside, for me anyway.

A lot of Chocolate options inside, hence they need to tone it down a bit, as too much volume tends to miss its finesse.

I have recently moved into the area and had been recommended by my neighbour to try outĀ Cocoa. My first Impression was that it was a busy cafĆ©, had a great buzz to it and lots to offer. All staff were smiling andĀ seemed very friendly and welcoming.Ā A young blonde girl served me at the cake fridge (which looked AMAZING)Ā and helped me pick out a hazelnut cake which I had with my latte.Ā I could not fault this cafĆ©. Coffee was great, and was promptly delivered despite them being really busy, the Hazelnut cake was just amazing and the service was great. I thank my neighbour for recommending Cocoa and I will be back. They also have the loyalty card. I will be back

Cocoa does a nice chai latte and my kids like the mini cup cakes for only $1.30 and the babycinos. Ā However, this is yet another cafe in Kew with an entitled and rude male barista. I went here to relax with my girls, they gave us the mini cupcakes upon ordering, but then had to wait 15 minutes for my drink and another 5 minutes for the babycinos. Ā We sat out the back and then some homeless looking guy started mouthing off and smoking at one of the tables. This cafe seems to be happy to accept and serve these people despite them being disturbing to other customers. I then had to move my girls to the front of the cafe which is situated on a busy road. Ā As I went through I saw someone come out with about 5 take away coffees and I asked the barista whether ours was on its way. He just grumped at me without making eye contact that it was up next. Ā 5 minutes later my chai latte finally came out. Ā then the babycinos about 5 minutes after that. Ā The barista just dumped them on the table without looking at us and walked off even though I said thank you. They had no choc topping and no marshmellows, I only asked for no topping on one of them. Ā I had to go back in and ask for marshmellows. I didn't get to relax at all. Ā Where has pride in customer service gone? Ā Not the first time I've been treated with disrespect at this place. Won't be going back.

Nice food, bad service! The service is rough as the barista face (the woman with boyish hair). Oh my god.... someone needs to tell her how to smile. Won't come back.
Marnie Bodin
Decent coffee and GREAT cakes. There isn't heaps of seating though inside but there are tables out the back near safeway/woolworths Ā carpark
Pia Richards
Poor service. Wait staff (two young girls) lack basic social skills, never said hello, smiled or made eye contact during our transactions also using their mobile phones behind counter. Had to try several times to get their attention. Tried the salad baguette and the bread was stale and chewy, definitely not baked fresh. Only upside was polite male barista and great coffee. Won't be returning.

Just grabbed a quick take away lunch as I was passing through Kew over the weekend. Not cheap but I enjoyed every mouthful. Chicken snitzel toasted panini and a great big almond croissant. Service was fine.
Disco
A superb find in a busy stretch of cafes and restaurants.
The cakes are Devine ++++ the coffee is excellent. The focaccia I had was really fresh and packed full of flavour. Staff are very friendly and welcoming and given this was a first visit I will be returning regularly.

Gorgeous place for cakes. They really should establish a dessert cafe with nice coffee and ice chocolate etc. Their desserts were amazing!
Karacalleja
Never again!. I sat down at a table that hadn't been wiped from the previous patron. When I asked a mature aged member of the waiting staff if she could wipe it, I was totally floored by her response. She gathered up the debris with her hands and rather sarcastically said to me, "it's only crumbs". And walks off. Really ?? The mini bits I ordered were made from stale rolls and the coffee just lukewarm. What a waste of money ! Shan't recommend this establishment to anyone

Great service & deliscious desserts. What a great little cafe in Kew. When we have a special occassion we always order our cakes from Cocoa Patisserie. They always make an impression on our guests, the flavors & presentation are second to none. They also have exquisite individual desserts, fresh made sandwiches & pies... what else do you want !!! love it and we will be back for more :-)

Poor Service. I attended this store today. I work in the area and go there from time to time but I note that there appears to have been a change of ownership. As you first walk in there is a long glass cabinet displaying cakes, etc, then there is a sandwich section, then the cash register. I was wanting to buy some cakes so stood in front of the ones I wanted waiting to be served. A lady came in after me and stood to the right of me - closer to the register - and was served next. When I asked to be served as I had been waiting a while I was told by the quite arrogant women at the register that I had to make my way to the register to order at which time I could then proceed back to the cake display and choose my cakes. I pointed out that without signage indicating that this was the procedure that one must follow in order to be served, it was impossible for anyone who was not a regular customer to know this. This woman was extremely arrogant and rude. She is obviously too lazy to walk to a customer and provide service so she will no longer get my business. Unfortunately they do not have any people or customer relation skills.

What patisserie doesn't serve scones with cream but just butter even when you ask for cream???!!!
Jennifer.nield
Best scones for miles. My favourite treat is to go early to Cocoa Patisserie and get a long black and a fruit scone. The women who work there create a warm intimate but not intrusive experience. Days when I need a bribe to get to work or to an appointment I get up extra early so that I can go and have the coffee and fruit scone (which is both tasty and filling)... the day is always doable when this lure is hooked...

Food & Lattes. Food & lattes, I have weekly from Cocoas and which I just enjoy!
The chunky beef pie & the veggie wraps are my fav.
The pleasure dome cakes & the vanilla slices are just yummy!
So don't hesitate and give Cocoa Patisserie a go!
Kaddy
This place does a nice chai latte. However the few times I've been in, the staff are too busy chatting amongst themselves to give me proper customer service. Dissapointing.

Love this place!. I go to this place very regularly. I love the fact that the staff greet you by name and know exactly how you like your coffee.
If I had to recommend 2 things to try, it would have to be the veggie wrap (so fresh) then sweeten your buds with the mini pleasure dome!! It delivers the pleasure and some.
Love the place and staff especially the tall barista with the short hair!

Best coffee in Kew!. After living in Kew for fifteen years and trying almost every coffee shop in the area, I can tell you that Cocoa Patisserie makes the best cappuccinos, mochas, and cafƩ lattes in Kew Junction. There is a beautiful balance between milk and coffee, the portions are generous and at a reasonable price. Further, the staff work very efficiently and you rarely have to wait long to be served! The store has a warm and inviting atmosphere and the staff are always very polite and friendly and not only are they very skilled at making various beverages but they also have a delicious selection of cakes, baguettes, muffins, biscuits - just to name a few. Each morning there are selections of mini-sized cup cakes which are covered in icing and smarties to replicate cats, dogs, tigers, mini monsters, and happy faces - it's always a joy to watch young children pick one of these small cup-cakes whilst having a hot-chocolate with their parents. There is a huge selection of sponge and mud cakes, decorated with delicate white and dark chocolate flowers, as well as tarts and gluten free cakes - all of which make great desserts for special occasions! Or you may just like to sit back and enjoy a nice coffee with a delicious baguette to have for lunch, I would recommend the BLT or chicken which are made fresh every morning by a team of cooks. So the next time you're in Kew, swing by and make sure you try some of their organic lemonade too!

Cold coffee. Went here today for coffee and sandwich with my boys Mother's Day hubby after hours manager in local hospital thought I would bring him coffee asked for it warmer as I was going up the road got 3 cold/ lukewarm coffees when I asked her to remake mine the barista was un friendly and said I should have ordered extra hot I told her I had but the coffee was lukewarm not even warm she unpleasantly made me another we had to warm up the other 2 in the hospital microwave!!!! Rotten service would not bother going again

Sadly, my last visit. Visited this establishment for a mid-afternoon treat with my granddaughter; the service was so unfriendly in the otherwise super-friendly Kew shopping precinct, that one couldn't help noticing it. Not a smile to be detected anywhere! We ordered three items; one was delivered totally wrong, another, a hot chocolate, was served barely luke-warm. It proved to be a very expensive outing - two drinks and a vanilla slice - over $15! We sat in the outside area surrounded by what looked like the start of a renovation - tins of paint and witches' hats.

I am a regular customer at Cocoa since we have their amazing Pleasure Dome chocolate cake at most of our family's celebrations. (I even keep their cake box and carry bag in my car to recycle each time I buy the cake) I am never greeted as a returning customer.

They don't have a loyalty program though customers have suggested this.

It is a depressing place to visit. We sat briefly at an inside table; there are holes in the wall next to one end of a row of tables.

DISGRACE!. Owner is absolute disgrace deliberately short changing $100 note for $50. Caught trying to rip off customer. Anyone else had similar problems. This was deliberate calculated action by the owner who was caught out. You are a dishonest disgrace!

Amazing cakes. Cocoa Patisserie is probably one of the cakes shops which I always visit for occasional treats and celebration cakes.

The staff is always quick and serves me fast - they're friendly too. I don't ever recall having to wait a long time to be served here.

There's a lot to pick from but after all I love their cakes the most and have tried pretty much every single cake they have.

I highly recommend the pleasure dome and the hazelnut cake.
Absofrigginglutely
Rude service and crap coffee. Do not go. We ordered two coffees and they managed to get one wrong and short change us . We asked to sit outside but for the coffees to be in take away cups so we could take them with us as we couldn't stay for long. They reacted like we had asked for their first born child initially but then agreed that this was "acceptable". A few minutes later, one of the waitresses (older lady with glasses and short hair) came outside and said to us "I'll bring your coffees when I get chance" implying we had been persistently asking her for them when we hadn't asked her once. Based on that comment, I assumed they were ready but she was too busy to bring them out so I walked up to get them and the same lady said "they're not ready yet" then proceeded to tell me that we had confused everyone because we were sitting outside with a take away coffee. Even though we had specifically asked when we ordered. Just don't go. Too much hassle for two coffees.
Kirsty
Amazing coffee, fabulous cakes. Cocoa Patisserie serves the most delicious cakes right in the heart of Kew. Barristas Martin and Ingrid never fail to make a delightfully smooth latte and the customer service is second to none. The cupcakes are also a hit with the kids and the veggie wraps are a tasty and healthy lunch option. Make sure you don't leave Kew without a stop off at Cocoa Patisserie!
Freya Croft
Very understaffed, barista also taking coffees to tables which makes things slower...
Scott
Worst service in Melbourne. No hello, no friendly smile, just a grumble from this woman who made me feel like I was doing her a disservice of coming in. Coffee was however very nice. Will never go back though.
Anita Ng
The worst shortcrust pastry I have tasted. So tough that I couldn't break it apart to eat.
Mowie
Heard negative things about the management here but gave it a go. Hmmm over priced. Average. Suggest they clean up act and focus on customers not pleasing staff.
Corey1
The worst service I have have experienced, no wonder there's rarely people in there. Rude staff too busy discussing their weekend plans or joking around, quite unprofessional. Coffee took awhile and was too hot to drink, won't be going back
Food
Magnificent Cakes. The cakes here are terrific. Little works of art that taste as good as they look and are not prohibitively expensive. (The small size is roughly $30, but it feeds 6 people). If you ask, they will do special birthday cake versions. I have never had an issue with the staff, they are very friendly and happy to discuss the various cake types. I have tried a number of them now and I haven't had a dud yet. I would thoroughly recommend this place if you are looking for an exceptional cake that doesn't cost the earth.
Bel
Decent coffee, great cakes. I've been here for years, and have always found the service friendly and efficient. The standard of the coffee is one of the better ones in kew, although I have to admit I ask for a strong one here. The cakes are great - I've sampled most. The ingredients are real and recommendations are the chocolate cake, which was made for one of our functions, and the raspberry cheese cake. My mum who doesn't eat cheese really enjoyed this cake on her birthday. The lemon tart is nice too. The only thing is I found the hot chocolate a bit on the sweet side. Otherwise, the best cafe so far in the kew junction.
Elaine Smith
I've been there on numerous occasions mostly because coffee is great at Cocoa. But I'm unwilling now to put up with bad customer service for the sake of buying a good cup of coffee. I walked in today and one of the guys said out loud that he didn't understand why people kept coming it. He was obviously annoyed by that and was very unprofessional.

It seems to be none of the staff is helpful or want customers around. Or just maybe severely underpaid. Either way it's terrible and a shame for Kew.
Neens
Rude staff. Bought lunch here today and found the staff rude and unfriendly. Did not even asked me if I want my chicken sandwich toasted or not. Just gave it to me cold! The coffe is crap but the cake that I bought is good though. Did not expect that!
Crackcat
0/10. Absolutely hate this place, i came in for a take away coffee which took about twenty minutes. the staff were hideously rude for no reason and the icing on top - the coffee was undrinkable.
Jasmin Summers
Hideously rude staff! Coffee is bad and overpriced. Had a terrible experience at this cafe and will certainly not return. Can not express enough how horrible the staff were.
Margot Boyle
Deadset fav!. This is my deadset favourite coffee shop. I know all the staff and always get great coffee. They go out of their way for me (& others I observe). My fav savory item is the individual egg & bacon pie (weekends only) and my fav sweet item is the very plain lemon tart which bites you back! They have an area in the display cabinet reserved for mini cupcakes: the designs are fabulous for kids of all ages!
CTKD
What do they put in their coffee?. Why are they more expensive than everywhere else on the street? Do they dust their caps with gold flakes rather than chocolate. The coffee is no better than anywhere else in the area, so I would rather walk somewhere else than pay more for nothing.
Priska S
Staffs werent friendly.. Tried raspberry cheesecake, it was just okay..
The Fish Man
Coffee is bad, $3.70 for a short Mac. When are cake shops going to realize that putting a coffee machine doesn't make you a cafe. You can't be good at both!
Hungry Biddy
You seriously have to get their raspberry cheesecake as the next birthday cake. It is to die for!!!! I get it for EVERY birthday and I'm considering buying it just to eat because it's THAT good! Plenty of sweet and juicy raspberries that taste fresh cover the top with a delicious raspberry sauce oozing down the sides and the cheesecake filling is creamy but not too heavy, and so tasty, and the crumbed base is perfection. Don't think their coffee is great though... But the raspberry cheesecake! Ahhhh!
GoddessWahaha
The vanilla slice was lovely. The coffee is foul. Even after I questioned the barista and got another one - still disgusting.
Madhu
As a former pastry chef I have to admit I rarely bother with most patisseries. There's just way too little honest pastry out there, too much flash and not enough substance. There are a few good ones around though and Cocoa is definitely one of them. Quality ingredients, nothing artificial as far as I can tell, well made into lovely to both eat and look at desserts. And they are honestly priced too for the quality you're getting. Delicious! The pastry chef really goes out of his way to make special orders something special. I had my wedding cake made here, and I'm REALLY picky about pastry. This place is great.

I first came across Cocoa Patisserieā€˜s cakes when we had the Hazelnut Mud Cake for one of my colleagueā€™s birthdays. It has since become of my go to cakes for just about any occasion. Ā Cocoa Patisserie is located on High Street, Kew and surprisingly it closes around 7pm on most nights which is great for after work if you just want to grab something. Cocoa not only serve cakes but pastries, coffees too (of course) but I havenā€™t yet had the pleasure to try.Ā Iā€™ve only tried their cakes, such as their Tiramisu and Pleasure Dome but their Hazelnut Mud Cake tops them all. Ā What I love about this cake is the layers, the ever so light chocolate mousse combined with the moist mud cake (gluten free apparently!) and topped with chopped roasted hazelnuts and toffee pieces that adds the much needed crunchiness. Decorated with ganache and dark and white chocolate. I adore nuts in cakes, and especially with cakes that arenā€™t too rich or sweet. It adds everything that I would want in a cake; moist, l
