Review Rox Cafe Bar - Kew

Lovely staff and food here. We've been here several times for lunch and both takeaway and dine in experience have been lovely. Love the corn fritter and chicken salad here. Portions are very generous. Downside is the coffee, we find it very milky. Would recommend increasing the coffee dosage.

Stopped by for brunch just in passing. Had a friend from ACT with me. We both had a very pleasant surprise. What a great menu and the service was as good. Friendly and quick service. The food was fantastic. What a great place. Keep up the great experience. šŸ‘

Very nice local cafe in this quiet suburb. Staff are friendly and the food is great.

Always great service, luscious meals by chef, a cosy, warm and friendly cafe. Once visited, you'll want to come back as often as possible! Great coffee as well - what a bonus!

Friendly staff, laid back vibe, good meal portions and breakfast options (all the usual suspects) at a reasonable price compared to other nearby Kew options which are typically a few dollars more. Meals look so simple but everything is done well, although some items could do with a bit more flavour (mushrooms), but thatā€™s a minor point.

Mind blowing food with generous sizes and great coffees. Every time the quality remains top notch. Rox cafe rocks in Kew. Well done guys. Keep it up!!šŸ‘ŠšŸ¼

4.1 The people at Rox were onto twosheds from The millisecond we walked in the door. We must try to be more incognito. Four staff members fussed around us and were so polite and helpful. We ordered two short blacks and a skinny latte. The short blacks were very very good coffees. Strong, substantive and flavourful. We loved the look of some of the food on offer and couldnā€™t resist trying a superb looking flourless orange cake which was delicious. Like, off the scale delicious. It was beautiful. We really liked the ambiance of this venue. It just feels like a really good place. We shall return. 4.1

Good brunch place! I like the quick sandwiches cheap and filling!! They'll probably have the cheapest coffee in market but I must say its not bad....

Fantastic cafe. Amazing food, service, location, decor and everything you could ask for :) Just enjoyed one of the best chicken dishes I have ever had for lunch. 10/10!

One of the best breakfasts I ever had. Healthy , delicious, awesome!! Also the service was top notch The only bad thing is: Iā€™m not living next to it

THE place to eat!!! Great food, amazing chef and welcoming staff!

Thanks for the really good coffee this morning guys! Friendly service and staff; good coffee..what more can I ask for when getting a caffeine shot before work! Perfect!

Great coffee, lovely food, good service. Reasonable prices. Was a tad noisy for conversation. Sound deadening acoustical ceiling tiles are great to help stop sound bouncing off hard surfaces. But I would most definitely come back.

Taking full advantage of people trying to charge 10% ā€œpublic holidayā€ surcharge on non public holidays. Female waitress refused to back down even when challenged. No customer service, will not go again

What a great cafe. Pefect poached eggs and bacon really reasonably priced and excellent coffee. What a little gem !

Everything about this place is great...service, staff and food! Best sandwiches around, great coffee too!....

All homemade cakes, I have tried most of them. All superb along with good coffee. The crew at Rox are friendly and service is great.

The coffee and the food is always great, but the slow service is an area for improvement. Even when empty it seems slow! Still highly recommended.
Robert D Holland
Great place for dinner, excellent service, new menu with much more choice.
Lisa Koulouris
The best coffee in Kew!! Thanks for the laugh today, Louie. See you next week.

Great food, service and coffee..........

Fantastic coffee & focaccia! I have their coffee most days of the week which is creamy, flavoursome and not too bitter & not to mention the staff working are the sweetest and always have a big smile on their face! The veggie focaccia is also thick & juicy, packed with so many veggies & feta, and even better when toasted - worth every cent! Would highly recommend x

The food is really great home made food. I had the BLT with chips and it was delicious. The staff are welcoming and attentive. Will most definitely go again.

Just dropped in for Coffee, service was good and prices reasonable. Pastries were fresh and tasty. Itā€™s in a busy street abut quiet inside, plenty of space with footpath seats as well.
Rox is quite a nice cafe which opens at a great time in the morning to get an early coffee to start the day, they also serve a great brunch menu and its definitely a must for anyone who has not been before.

Good food. Menu has lots of options. Friendly staff. Warm and cosy ambience.

We had a lovely experience here. Though one of our orders was delivered incorrectly, they did not make a fuss and quickly came out with our correct order. Our pick of the menu would be the ā€œSuper Healthy Porridgeā€. Itā€™s perfect for the cold weather or if youā€™re feeling under the weather. Itā€™s packed with nutritious ingredients, filling, and most importantly of all, itā€™s very delicious!

The crushed avocado was also tasty, however, we didnā€™t like the crispy enoki mushroom which was deep-fried. (Not such a big deal as we could just leave it to the side). Better to replace it with something less oily like cooked mushrooms.

The golden latte and the matcha latte sadly missed that sweet flavour. The presentation was cute though, they were served in transparent mugs that keep the heat from burning your hands.

Overall, I like this cafe/ restaurant and we will surely be back.

** Updated 30/04/2019: We went back again for the ā€œSuper Healthy Porridgeā€ which did not disappoint one bit. We also gave the golden latte another chance; a huge thank you to staff for adding the option of honey which made for a sweeter blend of turmeric spice/ cinnamon/ milk etc... We also tried another dish on the menu called the ā€œPure Protein Egg Whiteā€. I love how healthy and tasty this was - well balanced in flavour. In my opinion, you get great value for money here. Itā€™s a bonus that you can feel so relaxed in this homely environment.
Google pointed us to Rox when we looked up cafes in the neighbourhood. A couple of friends and me visited this cafe We had the iced mocha, vanilla slice, chicken tikka wrap and a bahama smoothie. The food was given a big thumbsup by all of us. The waitress was very enthusiastic and cheerful. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in Kew looking for a cafe.

Food was excellent and I would 100% come back. Prices were reasonable too. However, I was made to wait 40 mins for the Cajun burger. Worth the wait though

Nice coffee and friendly staff. The menu is pretty basic as is the interior. Would go back for a cup of coffee but wasnā€™t overly enticed by the menu.

First time reviewing but this pleasant cafe on a corner in Kew is definitely worth the time. Spacious with a sort of European vibe there is prompt and polite service straight from the door. I had the opportunity to try out their Open Steak Sandwich with a delicious dressing and great mix of salad plus a very enjoyable homemade Vanilla Slice; which if something had to be said the pastry was a little firm but still delightful all the same. This with a great latte and some friendly conversation from the staff as I waited for my meal will definitely have me coming there again soon.

They make a great open steak sandwich. The latte was at a good temperature and taste great. Vanilla slice was good. Friendly staff with great customer service. Cafe is cosy, great in cold days.

A warm coffee is definitely what you need in Melbourne's recent cold rainy weather. Rox Cafe definitely serves one of the finest coffees in Kew. Taste wise it's on the borderline of 4.5/5, aroma is strong but could get that extra shot to just hit my coffee high. Rox Cafe is sure a lot better than certain cafes in the Kew area, as the froth of the milk and the balance between the coffee & milk is very important, which Rox certainly is highly skilled on. The staff are also very friendly and efficient. Rox Cafe is also a member of the Rewardle app, so get moving and earn rewards and points from your purchases at Rox.

Don't often review cafƩs but the attention to detail with my soy chai order is worth mentioning. Ceramic cup that had been pre-warmed so that chai didn't cool too quickly when poured into it. Single serve portion of honey was nice but a bit environmentally wasteful, a serve of honey in a small glass container would work too (maybe even more cost effective). The chai itself was delicious - Prana, deliciously brewed with good balance, flavour and strength. Update 15/5: they fixed the honey issue. Chai as delicious as before.

The place is cosy and has a nice ambiance, unfortunately the food didn't measure up on my first (maybe last) visit.Ā I ordered the Salmon and Quinoa Salad.Ā I've enjoyed this at another, very well known, cafe nearby in Kew and so was hopeful.Ā Rox's menu promised broccoli but there was no broccoli.Ā Lettuce leaves were the substitute....not the same.Ā Although "Quinoa" is in the salad's name, only about a teaspoon of this grain was included. TheĀ tartareĀ did not taste home made as suggested in the menu and overpowered all other flavours except for the ransid taste which I suspect may have been the walnuts: past their use by date.Ā Did not see or taste any "green chilli salsa". Due to the lack of grains I was left hungry so asked for a piece of toast to accompany the salad.Ā I was charged an extra $4.50 for the toast.Ā Not planning on rushing back.

I would really like to thank the Rox Cafe Bar for always delivering the most amazing service, atmosphere and overall inviting experience. The staff are so delightfully accommodating, the granola bars are absolutely delicious and the coffee is second to none. And they always accomodate for my doggos. Thank you! A great little spot in Kew.

Everything you want from a cafe. Friendly service. Good coffee. Good food. Better than most surrounding cafes with a lovely atmosphere inside

Yet another cafe with a low Zomato average rating which is totally unjustified!! This little gem just down the road from Kew Junction has it all - warm ambience, terrific service and excellent food, all rolled into one.

And they make a pretty good coffee too - smooth and creamy with a pretty decent soy milk choice. The menu selection caters for all tastes and I couldn't go past today's special of a savoury pancake with smoked salmon, poached egg and avocado. The pancake was incredibly light and fluffy, with a texture that was melt-in-the-mouth, perfectly complemented by the salmon and avocado, topped with a supremely cooked poached egg. Brilliant!!

Looking forward to returning and trying out other meals on the menu another time soon. :)

Came for breakfast and coffee and it was great the smashed avo breakfast was on par with some of the best I've had in a while
Coffee took way to long to come ordered first came half an hr later not sure what the issue was but it was still very good

What a beautiful place! The food is simply excellent, flavours are very well balanced in all dishes - savoury and sweets - service is very friendly and everything is made in house. The atmosphere is comfortable, luminous and reflects the personality of the owner who puts a lot of passion into his food as well as taking care of his staff and clients equally.
A place to discover without a doubt!!

Great coffee, and wonderful smashed avocado breakfast stack.Ā All served by two of the most beautiful french ? ladies you have ever laid eyes on.

The rolls(ask to be toasted) in the window and their lunch specials are fantastic in comparison to the local competitors.

Go for the toasties selection in the window when your doing an affordable lunch.

Rox serves up delicious brekkie and lunch dishes with a side of friendly service! I devoured their beef burger with chips. All the ingredients were fresh and the beef patty was juicy and cooked well. Their coffee, sourced from Ethiopia, is also fabulous.

I like this cafe the food is yummy, not overally hipster or trendy, but definitely caters for a good meal if you have some intolerances (like I do). The Matcha is also good, I might add honey next time...but I was definitely not disappointed in the slightest! As a local, I'll definitely purchase again.

I opted for the vegetarian burger whilst my dining companion chose the beef burger. Both our burgers were brilliant! The burgers had lovely brioche buns and the coleslaw was a yummy addition. The chips were also excellent.

Best Spaghetti Marinara ever! Will definitely come back for it. The mussels are very fresh and fish fillet very tender as well. Waiting time is a bit long though during lunch time.

Friendly service, bustling cafe - but you can still have a conversation with your table without having to yell to hear. Waiters and waitresses very attentive and accommodating. Very accomodating with food substitutes also - removal of sundried tomatos from omlette. Delicious coffee and not bitter at all which is a pet hate. Lattes were milky with great crema. Food portions, not to big and not too small. Only complaint is the corn and hallomi fritters were slightly dry, but the avocado and salsa assisted to counter act this. 5 grain cacao porridge has beautiful fresh fruit and was balanced with the crunchy texture of almond clusters. Fresh juices had a good consistency and fresh flavor. Toast was not over cooked and was golden brown. Establishment overall was clean but slightly chilly so some heat on a wet day would have been nice. Overall would return, but with hundreds of cafes that are identical its not necessarily a standout...
Happy Munchkin
Great place for a wonderful veggie breakfast - water on the table, coffee was hot, service was pleasant. Only complaint was the fly buzzing around inside the cafe which tends to frustrate making it less than stress free dining.

Rox Cafe offers both indoor and outdoor seating (out front and back courtyard). While the chairs aren't the most comfortable things in the world, it has a very relaxed and welcoming atmosphere which I quite enjoyed.

They have a display cabinet with pre-made sandwiches, wraps etc for take-away or you can choose to sit down and view the menu. I went with sitting out front to enjoy the beautiful day and had the smashed avocado on toast from the menu, which came with free ranged poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, Haloumi cheese, and a balsamic reduction.

The food was very tasty and the coffee was decent. I really enjoyed the meal and would recommend it to any other smashed avo lovers.

Service was very polite, timely, and friendly.

Overall it is a good lunch place, with good coffee and a relaxed atmosphere.

Great Coffee ... cakes bake on premises ... fruit cake goes down well with a coffee ... Service is can be a little slow when busy butĀ always friendlyĀ ... Now open for dinner Thursday to Saturday ... breakfast and dinner are first rate ... the fruit toast is has a large variety of fruit eg apricots, dates and much more.

Rox Cafe is the best I've found on High Street in Kew. Friendly, personal staff sets it apart from others and has made me a repeat customer. Recently the food has improved with a new menu, coffee, and ascetics. Definitely punches above it's weight for food quality and is very competitively priced. Ā Ā
Good location, free wifi, and plenty of light makes it one of my favourite places to hold business catch ups with clients.
Would recommend :)

I have been to Rox over the past couple of years, and each time I've been disappointed in one way or another... until now. Rox may look the same at first glance, but it's definitely a new and improved cafƩ/restaurant, which should be on everyone's list to try, and stick to.

Rox's menu has been revamped and the prices are reasonable. Everything I saw coming out of the kitchen made me want to come back and try it. The day I stopped in, I ordered the Open Steak Sandwich, and my partner ordered the Rox Big Breakfast. Both dishes were huge in size and in flavour. I couldn't finish my sandwich, but I was able to take the rest home.

I found the service top notch. We were looked after by all the servers, including the new owner, Louis. We just had to look up from our plates, and someone would be next to us offering their service. Mind you, they were respectful of our space, but if needed, they were there.

Rox is my new go-to cafƩ in Kew.

Spotted a few negative comments below, but I can only assume standards have improved significantly with new owner and a new menu.Ā I find the Coffee is excellent and their new menu hasĀ lots of healthy food choices now available including gluten free.Ā Staff are always very friendly and helpful. highly recommend

Friendly staff, nice food at reasonable prices, great for kids. We're local and have been regulars for a many months! Excellent coffee and open on days when everywhere else seems closed.

Great price!!!! Yum ... Friendly service and exceptional food!!!!!

Need improving. Coffee needs to be way better, was served an affogato with cream!! Service is unprofessional when busy. Need to pick up standard considering N&T down the road.

Don't mind paying for good food but when you have a couple of bits of beef and heaps of salad, you can't charge that price for a dish. Note please make the meal substantial if you are going to charge the price you do.
Coffee was good at least.
Jessemclaren
Great food and Coffee. After the transformation from the old Kaffez this place is really on the up! great coffee and the food is consistently spot on. Burger is as good as any around, steak sandwich also fresh and light with a good array of cakes and muffins for the afternoon nibbles...
Alison Vickers
Good wholesome food with friendly service. Nothing fancy but that's ok.
Josh Jackson
Poor. Very average food and coffee weak and bordering on cold.. Won't return!

Mr gary. Coffee was good when they had the same barrister on the machine. But when he not on. No good. Also service sucks. But price is good. Chef needs to be more adventurous
Teresa Ryan
Great food, poor service. I've been to Rox a few times to try the food and it is absolutely delicious and very well-priced for the quality. However, on my last visit I found my self walking out after not being attended to on a Saturday morning for about ten-fifteen minutes, as i was starving was keen to order a coffee and brekky asap.

I think that the service needs to improve and the staff need to be more attentive to the customers.
The Oracle
Kew to fitzroy. Above average for kew, showing the evolution of cafe culture in kew, and aiming for a modern kew cafe with the darker , more relaxed feel of fitzroy, and in summary, a kew cafe with some fitzroy undertones.
Service is good, but can fall off when places becomes half full.
Paying for your meal can be a right royal pain as the register is also manned by the barista and people taking orders and making food, so, if you wanna pay, get in line with the other three. That is the real downside. Please, let your paying customers leave efficiently, place tour cash register out of the serving section.
Anyway, coffee is great, and the food......??, slightly above average for kew, and somewhat like fitzroy, so worth the stop and worth the parting of ones money, for once maybe twice or a regular if you work in the area.
Nice eggs, nice French toast, and other cafe staples
