By far my favourite Japanese restaurant I’ve been too! We got the six course set menu and enjoyed every dish we had. The service was so good, constantly having our water topped up and food dishes that were finished taken away. The atmosphere was so nice the restaurant itself was beautiful!

Best Japanese Restaurant in Melbourne. We had 'Feed me' menu and it was great value for money. Sushi and Sashimi were same high quality as the ones at some of the best sushi restaurants in Japan. We also liked some authentic japanese dishes with a unique twist into them. The service was excellent as the dishes came as soon as we finished one. We sat at the counter and the chef (Lee) was very friendly. He explained about the dishes we were trying and we felt his passion about his menu. We highly recommend to try 'Feed me' menu. We definitety come back again:)

We discovered the place while browsing in tomato gold, didn't expect the place to be this fancy. Food quality was decent, we had cocktail during happy hours as well, $10 for a drink, and they taste average.
I also appreciated the service the staffs provided and the food, ambiance.
One hiccup, I can't give a 5-star because our 2 main dishes arrived 15-20 mins apart.

Wonderful Japanese restaurant, glad we got to hear about it via Zomato gold. Best chicken teriyaki we've had in a while (or ever) subtle flavours, crisped outside and moist on the inside - not drenched in sauce like some other places.
Sashimi was so well presented, we had to order one, even though we normally don't get Sashimi. Delicate flavours, buttery textures, no fishy taste, rice cooked perfectly. Can't complain.

Tempura udon was delicious also, as was the tako-karage, gyoza, and dessert platter.

They have a feed me menu, which is pretty much like a buffet for $59, will return with friends to try it out.

Highly recommended.

Was interested in trying this Japanese restaurant for the first time to have a lovely family dinner. The menu definitely intrigued me as you have multiple options of entree and main dishes to share, or you can select to have a set menu. We ended up selecting and trying a variety of dishes to share. These included; pork goyza, sashimi platter, shoft shell crab nori rolls, brasied pork belly, duck slices, vegetable tempura, seafood udon, four bao buns (vegetable, prawn, pork and chicken). After all these dishes everyone was definitely super full and satified. My personal favourite was the pork gyoza and the sashmi platter. This restaurant is a great authentic Japanese restaurant that I will definitely be visiting again!

Points for: ambience, excellent sashimi & nigiri, tempura

Dine Time: weekday dinner

The restaurant opens up to a large dining area, featuring a full cocktail bar, sashimi counter, and sunken tables. It's a sleek and modern interior inspired by Japanese design. Noticeably, there is a large glass panel in the middle of the room, which I assume is used as a sound barrier, as one half is catered for larger groups.

Hamachi with Jalapeno Dressing - the kingfish was served as sashimi, and the dressing was strikingly different with hints of kaffir lime leaf - such strong flavours might work against the delicate fish.

Chawan Mushi - simple steamed dashi-egg custard served in a hollowed egg, so it's quite a small serving, even as a-la-carte. A tiny piece of tempura is served on top, but there was no hint of prawn.

Jidori Karaage was crispy and juicy in the middle, just as you would expect. However that homemade mayo took it to another level with hints of yuzu.

Nigiri & Sashimi - One of my favourite dishes of the night. Chef's selection included ikura gunkan (popping fresh roe countered with roasted seaweed), salmon nigiri (blow torched for the grilled taste), and anago nigiri (amazingly soft sea eel).

The selection of sashimi was also very impressive and expertly sliced, with thick cut pieces not only allowing you to taste the fresh fish, but also understand the different textures.

Tempura - Enoki, shiitake, sweet potato and king prawn was on offer, all battered and fried resulting in a very light and crispy tempura batter. Could have done with a bit more drainage, as it was still slightly oily.

The premium wagyu beef was light on beefy flavour and had a bit of a bite to it, almost like soft jerky.

The maguro steak was cooked medium rare, and wrapped with crispy seaweed, offered a balance in textures.

Dined in for lunch and were excited to see their lunch menu was a quite good range. We have tried the Skytree Tempura, Katsu Don, Wagyu bowl, premium sashimi and sushi set, tofu curry and unagi don. I was a bit surprised to see that the omelette with the Katsu was just a fried egg. The tempura is not like the usual light batter, it is more like crunchy angel hair and does not come with tempura sauce, but tonkatsu sauce. Certainly not authentic but not a bad fusion. The ambience is nice and would be a nice dinner location too. Service could be improved (speed, attentiveness), but the food has been quite good.

Great place in Kew (for the feed-me menu, probably would advise against coming for a normal meal - sizes tend to be very small) for a quasi-fine dining experience. Ambience feels classy - particularly like the flower decor and the little bridge inside.

Favourite dishes were the sushi/sashimi pieces (can’t go wrong), taro truffles (amazing - creamy mozzarella and taro?!), salmon carpaccio or fish with Japanese mayo honestly. The Yuzu Duck was our main of choice - the duck itself was slightly dry, but the accompanying sauce was light and fruity.

Easy to get your money’s worth for feed me ($55pp). I would return, especially because I wanted to try the unagi main. Service was good overall, but our dessert either took 30 minutes or they forgot about it until we asked. Otherwise, very friendly!

A beautiful and spacious Japanese restaurants, is a lovely place for celebrations. Attentive service, high quality food and friendly staff. One thing Id like to highlight is their attention to detail for dishes. The Edamame entree we hv in most of the Japanese restaurants are usually cold, this one is not only warm, but also tossed with a very thin layer of oil, it makes the edamame tastes so much better and looks fresh. 👍🏻
Our first time to the restaurant, will definitely go back to try their premium range of dishes.

If you like Japanese food, this is the place to come. On Friday and Saturday nights a Feed Me menu is offered. For $55 per person you may order anything from their menu (with the exception of a few premium dishes), as many times as you wish until you are full.

The food was fresh and delicious and each dish was beautifully presented. I would recommend the Sushi Sashimi Moriawase, Shiitake Scollop, Chawanmushi and Tempora Moriawase some of the dishes you must try. Of course there are many other dishes you can select from but you should choose carefully as you would need a massive appetite to taste them all. If you have remembered to leave room in your stomach for dessert, I would recommend the Dessert Tasting Plate and the Peanut Bomb.

The restaurant has a Happy Hour between 6:00-730pm which includes $8 house wines and $7 tap beer.

The staff were friendly and polite and cleared the table promptly. Unlike some restaurants, they did not have a time limit on how long you had to enjoy your meal.

We had an excellent dinner and would high recommend it.

Really impressed with the quality of food and service here.

We had feed me options ($55/person) and eat until full. Personally, I think this option is really worth it.

Some dishes that we were really enjoyed are foie gras chawan mushi, sushi&sashimi moriawase, tempura moriawase and cod.

Thank you Miss Kasumi team for having us 💌

First time tried out the Gold membership deal 1+1, experience was good.

Umami fries, great portion for its price in a restaurant, great flavour, dry and crispy shoestrings fries.

Seafood Udon, i thought it was seafood soup udon, however it turns out something like white sauce seafood udon (dry version not soup), taste was great, well balanced. Something different from ordinary seafood udon soup. It would be even better if fresh prawn is used, i suspect is frozen prawn, i could be wrong.

Husband ordered the chirashi don, flavour is good, but the salmon seems a bit different from what we normally get, quite deep orange colour as well, not too sure about the type of salmon they used.

Both noodle and rice served together with edamame, salad and miso soup.

Overall had a good meal, was thinking to try the special chawanmushi but seems like not available for lunch menu, great atmosphere, good customer service.

p/s: forgot to take pictures of other meals >.

Miss Kasumi is by far the best all you can eat I have ever been to! So many options and I didn’t even get to try it all, yet I was still satisfied...I will be back again to try the rest of the food and will bring more and more people along.

Service from the start was incredible, I was relaxed through the whole night being able to watch the chef freshly prepare our food and enjoy straight after.

Highly recommended meals would be the “Yuzu Duck”, “Smoky Pork Belly”, the chefs homemade ice cream (Charcoal Coconut Chocolate and Peanut Bomb are incredible!).
The list can go on but just to name a few.

Hands down one of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve been to! Great value for money with their feed me option which allows you to unlimitedly pick from a large feed me menu at $55 per person! Great quality food.

My absolute favorites were
- Chargrilled Duck Breast w Yuzu Gel - The sweetness and slight tanginess from the Yuzu gel melded deliciously with the Duck
- Twice cooked Kakuni (pork belly) w crackling and chili garlic dressing
- Foie Gras on Egg custard
- Wild Mushroom pipe w truffle oil
- Tiger prawn tempura
- Vegetable tempura
- Angus Tataki
- Salmon Carpaccio
- Fried mackerel
- The sorbets were great too

I don’t really recommend the black sesame pannacotta and the soy bean pudding. They were basically both just cubed puddings.
The soft shell crab was average as well.

Beautiful venue and good service. They did forget our 10 piece sushi and sashimi order so we cancelled it but we were too full to be fussed anyway.

I will definitely be back to try their sashimi and other items!

Update: Came back literally a week after with another group of friends to try!

And I’ve got new favorites now!
- Chilled Citrus Soba
- Seafood Udon - This was like a creamy Udon dish.
- Smokey Pork Belly
- Kakuni
- Sashimi and Sushi moriawaise
- Gyoza

Miss Kasumi is honestly such a great spot to go to for high quality Japanese food in Kew. The venue is really modern as well and spacious!

We let the chef select our menu for the night, which was really fun because we got to try some of their specialties.

What we had:
Mango & peach yoghurt (drink)
Watermelon coconut virgin colada (drink)
A selection of sushi (salmon belly, tuna belly, ikura)
Foie gras chawan mushi
Smoky pork belly
Shiitake scallop
Signature seafood udon
Patagonia toothfish
Dessert tasting plate

We sat at the sushi counter and were served our sushi straight away, and as advised by the sushi chef it really makes a difference in the flavour. I love that the rice is still slightly warm as well. The fish tasted really fresh.

The foie gras chawan mushi was so good! The dashi gel that was on top added so much flavour to the dish alongside the slightly seared foie gras on top.

The smoky pork belly was super tender on the inside and fried to perfection. It was served in a little glass container which was filled with apple wood smoke - you could really taste the smokiness in the pork which I loved.

The Patagonia toothfish was quite rich and tasted a bit similar to cod. It’s was flaky and cooked really nicely. Definitely something to share with a few people.

The dessert tasting platter was a great way to end the meal. I love that we were able to try a bit of each of their house made desserts, the soybean pudding with toasted soy bean powder was one of my favourites because of its nutty flavour.

Service was good, but the dishes did come out a little bit slow. Ambience was nice as well for dinner.

Contemporary Japanese food at its finest!

I had the
- smoky pork belly - this was seriously soooo crispy and melted in my mouth
- egg custard with foie grass - the addition of the foie grass was so perfect
- prawn and crab baos- would’ve love it even more if the baos were softer
- yuzu duck - cooked perfectly
-salmon carpaccio - this melted in my mouth it was so delicious
- sashimi and sushi was also really fresh
- scallops with quail eggs were really fun to try

And the dessert was delicious as well!

Would definitely recommend this place if you love Jap food

A relaxing Japanese eatery in Kew.
The place was accessible as it was close to the tram stop, and literally one of the nicest Japanese restaurant in Melbourne. Staffs were all professional and nice, the first few dishes came after a reasonable wait, though the rest took a while so there was an awkward gap in the middle. They did apologised saying that they were busy that night, which was understandable but I hope they improve on this!

Now on to the main event, food!

I loved the Garden "sth" cocktail, it was fruity and floraly at the same time and just the perfect amount of sweetness. Probably the best cocktail I've had, so I definitely recommend this!

The miso tofu salad was delightful, the tofu itself had some sort of sweet coating which we really enjoyed, and the veggies were fresh, while the sauce was the sesame sauce, just bit too much.
Angus tataki was recommended to me by the waitress and I'm glad she did. The dish was flavorful and the beef melted in my mouth.

Shimeji suimono (soup) was another hit. We loved that it had a really strong umami taste without having an overpowering mushroom taste, really enjoyable. There was no tofu however, as was written in the menu.

Umami french fries was pretty good. Portion was great, and the fries was crispy though a little bit too crispy for our liking, the seasoning we enjoyed, but can be more evenly coated.

Foie Gras Chawan Mushi was yummay, silky pudding-like texture, balanced taste and that foie gras on top just elevated the dish itself!

Sushi and sashimi moriawase was quite good, definitely the better ones I've had. Fish were fresh, and the ratio to rice was balanced, though there was a fish which had prickly skin which I couldn't chew lol.

Unagi Kabayaki was lovely. It was a generous piece of unagi on top of a generous bed of rice, with some pickled ginger and greens on the side. Unagi was meaty and flavorful, and had nice texture, and the rice was yummy as well. One of the best unagis I've had!

Patagonia Toothfish! Saw so many reviews on this I had to give it a try. Like the reviews, it was definitely melt in your mouth experience, so buttery and luxurioussss! It was just a tad dry on the sides but easily overlooked. It may look bit small but it's surprisingly quite filling, so I'd say give it a go!
( I do hope they change the plate, as the disk kind of moved around while I was trying to cut the fish.)

Lastly, the dessert.

We loved the matcha ice cream, so smooth with a good amount of matcha punch and wasn't too heavy too! I was left craving for more when I finished lol.

The black sesame panna cotta was decent. I feel like it was a bit too gooey, which we didn't really enjoy, and the sesame was bit too strong as well.

Overall, Miss Kasumi is a great place for quality Japanese cuisine with reasonable price.
Thank you for having me!

( follow for more!✨)

Overall score: 21/25 or ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
in 5 words: quality and affordable Japanese in Kew
*
Taste ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I was spoilt for choice at the range of options in their feed me menu. The dishes I enjoyed most were:
🍮 the foie gras chawanmushi - a great interpretation of a Japanese staple, the dashi gel paired with foie gras was sudh a flavourful combination.
🍣 [not in feed me] the o-toro sushi had a soft texture and really melted in my mouth. The king salmon sushi was lightly seared and tasted great. The tuna salmon was very meaty and tasted clean. The fish: rice ratio was great, which allowed you to enjoy the sushi without feeling too full.
🍱LOVE the unagi here. You must save stomach space for this - the unagi was tender, juicy and basted with the right amount of sweet sauce.
🐟🍤The crispy mackerel and tempura prawns tasted fresh and crispy - we enjoyed every crunch!
🆗The high standards of their seafood dishes outshined others. The duck was a little dry, although the accompanying yuzu sauce was a brilliant combination. We also found it a bit difficult to cut through the strawberry bao, which was frozen.
*
Ambience ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - They really invested to create an intimate and comfortable atmosphere for guests. Great music and beautiful decorations.
*
Price ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- The feed me option was quite value at $55 per person. You are guaranteed to leave satisfied. They also use quality seafood even though this was an order as much as you want buffet. the premium cut sushis range between $4.5-$11 each, which was really value for the sushi that we tasted.
*
Presentation ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - the dishes were presented well, especially their seafood and sushis.
*
Service ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - the staff were friendly and patient throughout our meal. Thanks for taking care of us! My only comment is that it took a while for the food to arrive. My recommendation is to order all your dishes at the start of your meal!

For many years I was an international food critic and travelled to Japan for one month every year. Most of the Japanese restaurants in Melbourne do not come up to Japanese standards. So when I found Miss Kasumi it immediately became my favourite Japanese restaurant in Melbourne.

With Japanese food it's important you understand the philosophy and preparation techniques used in Japan and it's not surprising that people who have no idea of this simply don't understand. They should stick with McDonald's!

Good Japanese food is not cheap. It's meticulously prepared and only the best ingredients are used. I dine here almost weekly because it's the best of the best and as good or better than most Tokyo restaurants at three times the price.

We've tried almost all we à la carte dishes and the only one I've ever had reason to criticise is the veg tempura , because cooking this in the shell means losing the real flavour. My advice is to stick to the giant prawns which are sensational here.

Everything else is absolutely delicious and prepared to perfection. And I found the service excellent and the presentation of all the dishes superb and as good as the taste. At lunchtime, when there is no sushi, try the deep-fried giant prawns stack and the Panko-crumbed chicken with rice. Generous serves, not overpriced, and absolutely delicious.

For those who understand Japanese food, and enjoy this, Miss Kasumi is outstanding. But if all you want is cheap and cheerful sushi, stick with Sushi Sushi or similar.

Excellent decor, service, food and cocktails. We ordered a range of tapas and everything was cooked and served well, with almost all plates being totally cleaned.

The miso salmon was so tender, I have never had salmon that just explodes with juiciness. Black cod were well cooked but on the smaller side. I loved the strawberry bao and how crunchy the bao was! It had been deep fried I think so the outside had a crust but the inside was fill with crunchy peanuts and strawberry ice cream, this added a great texture to the dessert, big thumbs UP!

Will be back to try the sushi.

If you want all you can eat Japanese for $55 and with great quality, then this is the place.
Been to a few of these all u can eat Japanese around the local area but this is by far the best. Expecting that the portion sizes to be either small or bad quality but the food was pretty amazing. The waitress would upsize our dishes so that we could share around as she knew we where wanting to try the whole menu.
Really great place and there is nothing really to criticize except that staff could smile a little more and remember our drinks order coz they would forget to bring it to us. But there was one waitress that was very attentive and was extremely helpful and friendly, after a few forgotten drinks from other staff members we only looked for her.

I’ve been wanting so long to visit Miss Kasumi and finally i did it. I made a booking for dinner but when i arrived there was a mistake or maybe they forgot tu input my booking but then they quickly find a table for me and even told me to wait in a bar and gave me 2 mocktails for me and my boyfriend. The mocktail was great! We ordered 5 dishes to share and the sashimi is coming very fast. We ordered the Toro sashimi and it was so good but the look is doesn’t look nice compare what i saw in their instagram 😂 but otherwise the taste is so good and fresh. It took so long for the other foods came and even i ordered the edamame it took so long. But then i asked the waiters for twice it finally come in one by one. The edamame with truffle oil is good combination! I love it! The unagi kabayaki is very good as well and the unagi is also huge. I like the fried mackerel as well, it was crispy. Then, the higlight of our dinner on that night was the grilled patagonia! Even though it’s quite pricey but it was so good and i wish it come with more bigger size. Overall, i had a good dinner in Miss Kasumi. Me and my boyfriend enjoyed it and the service is nice, just the foods is come out pretty long.

Miss Kasumi is a beautiful contemporary Japanese restaurant in Kew. We were excited to be invited by the restaurant to try their menu as guests, as it has some rare dishes that you don’t usually see on a typical Japanese menu. I really loved the way it was set up inside. It had a really romantic vibe. There were cherry blossoms framing different areas, and wonderful light features such as the clouds above the sushi bar.

We heard about this restaurant and their famous sea urchin dish, and although sea urchin isn’t currently available whole, the rest of the food we tried was amazing and some of the best Japanese we’ve had.
We opted for the Feed Me for $55 where you could order as many dishes of your choosing as you’d like (except the small premium section on the bottom right of the menu).
We opted for a number of small dishes for our meal instead of main dishes, and this was a great way to sample lots of things.
This was fantastic value for us, and the good was full of flavour, fresh, well presented.
Wine was also very affordable with some glasses around the $10 mark.
$160 in total for two adults food and five glasses of wine.
Highly recommend and will definitely be back once they have the whole sea urchin back on the menu!

**4.5 stars** We came here for some dinner and ended up having a wonderful experience.

First of all, the ambience was really nice, clean and romantic, thanks to the Japanese styled-interior design. The ambience as a whole had a relaxing, almost zen kind of feel - I think the background music helped play a part (the type of music one would hear at a massage room). When it began to get crowded, the atmosphere did lose a bit of that touch. Still, I couldn’t help but feel like I was in a different bubble.

There’s tonnes to choose from, both in the food and drinks menu. For those who can’t decide, there’s a ‘Feed Me’ option where you can pay $55/pp and the restaurant will bring you out what they recommend - until you are full! ** NOTE: charges apply on wastage over 100g.

From my personal experience (and as all my reviews would show), I always opt for choosing my own food as it tends to work out cheaper… and I will still end up getting full. However, in this case, I’d have to go for the ‘Feed Me’ option as the individual items are costly and the portion sizes are small. You’ll only miss out on the premium dishes which start from $28+.

Anyway, the most important factor is the taste of the food. I’m happy to report that the majority of the plates that I tried out ended up being amazing. My favourites were the ‘Crispy chicken baos’, the ’Salmon carpaccio’, the ‘Salmon Skins salad’ and the ‘octopus karaage’. They were all rich in flavours and had the right balance. The 10 piece sushi & sashimi platter was fresh and of high quality.

On the other hand, the ‘Braised Pork Belly’ was a little mushy for my liking and the ‘Niku Udon’ (consisting of beef slices, noodles, onset tamago) was pretty average. I can’t wrap my head around paying $19 for that bowl of noodle soup…

Meanwhile, the alcoholic drinks were presented beautifully with strong yet tangy flavours. I really enjoyed the ‘Eilla & sakaru’ (which resembles the theme colours of Captain America :P ), it was sweet and fruity. I recommend this one if you don’t know what to order.

Overall, I do like this restaurant albeit some individual dishes are pricey. The service is prompt and staff pay great attention, especially to filling up your water cups. Almost all the staff had smiles on their face which made for a great dining experience.

Thank you Miss Kasumi for providing us with a memorable dining experience.

Miss Kasumi is located on High Street in Kew. We were invited to visit & on entering we were stunned by the beautiful interior. A gorgeous Japanese restaurant, we were transported to Japan, so many intricate details including cherry blossom and a wooden bridge over running water.

The staff were so welcoming & kind, we were told to order from our hearts & try anything we liked. With such a large & impressive menu we asked the chef for a few suggestions which really helped us choose a fantastic range of dishes & appreciated his assistance.

We started with cocktails, the Tokyo Sunset & the Garden, both light & fruity and the perfect way to start our meal.

The food came out very quickly & we started with edamame, served with sea salt & truffle oil & the Tempura Moriawase. The tempura dish included tiger prawns & mixed vegetables & was the best tempura I’ve ever tried. The batter was so light & crispy & it was an incredible dish.

The Smoky Pork Belly arrived with a sense of theatre as the chef removed the lids & the apple wood smoke aroma filled the air. The pork belly was crumbed & served with shredded chilli. The twice cooked Kakuni dish was thin slices of braised pork belly, served with pork cracking & a chilli garlic dressing. Beautiful presentation & so much flavour & this dish didn’t last on the plate for long. We also tried the Umami fries, thin & crispy & topped with nori & truffle oil.

The 10 piece sushi & sashimi platter was spectacular & of the highest quality. The flavours were so clean & fresh & again, the best sashimi I’ve tried. The chef had suggested we try the Black Cod dish & when it arrived we both went ‘Wow’. The presentation was so impressive & the cod was so tender that it just melted in the mouth.

For dessert we tried the Black Sesame Pannacotta & the Dessert Tasting Platter. The pannacotta was light & creamy with a strong black sesame flavour & not too sweet which I loved. The platter was a selection of tiny Japanese treats which ended our meal on such a high.

The staff at Miss Kasumi were friendly & attentive, we also appreciated the chef’s assistance in menu suggestions. So much pride & finesse was demonstrated in every single dish & it truly was an unforgettable experience. Thank you so much for your generosity & making us feel so welcome. I would highly recommend trying Miss Kasumi for yourself, it has been one of my food highlights this year.

If my brains are splattered across the floor, it's because my mind was blown. We were very kindly invited to Miss Kasumi for a very generous dinner in exchange for an honest review. This Japanese restaurant in Kew is located in a nice corner block section of High Street. I liked the floor to ceiling windows and internal layout of tables and partitions - it really made the place cosy and comfortable. The staff were friendly and accommodating throughout.

We ordered more than our fair share of food. The salmon sashimi was very nicely presented - I personally would have liked it slightly colder, but that's just a matter of personal preference. The sushi was outstanding - we really liked the salmon toro aburi, scallop (which was also seared though the menu didn't mention it), Wagyu beef (also seared, you can see the pattern here). Everything was very thoughtfully presented, and it would normally take me a lot to want to spend $5 and up on a single piece of sushi, but the salmon toro aburi in particular was so good I probably would order it again.

The foie gras chawan mushi was spectacular. I can't remember the last time I had chawan mushi that was so delicately prepared, and the foie gras complemented it very well. The twice cooked kakuni was a bit of a letdown though. We expected it to be really soft (like chashuu) but it was quite stringy and tough. The sweet chilli and sour sauces on top of it was also quite overpowering. The wild mushroom pipe was quite similar to a mushroom spring roll - full of exotic mushrooms that were well cooked. The soft shell crab in the bao was very light and crispy; unfortunately the bao was a little hard and dry. The octopus karaage came with salad which my wife liked. I thought the octopus was quite nice, though less spectacular compared to some of their other dishes.

The tempura was amazing. The batter was very light and airy, and all the different vegetables and prawns were fried perfectly. And of course, the lobster and Wagyu sirloin were both just as good. I don't think I have ever eaten a steak using solely a pair of chopsticks, but those thick slices of steak melted in my mouth and the miso dipping sauce along with the mushrooms brought out all the umami out of the dish. I'm still salivating thinking about it. The lobster was equally well done - delicate and juicy, and it only pales in comparison to the amazing steak.

Price wise, the food is not cheap, but they have a feed me buffet which is excellent value for money at $55. This option includes most of the menu, aside from premium items like the steak and lobster, as well as the sashimi and nigiri sushi (there are sushi roll options included though). There are still plenty of great options included though, including the chawan mushi, tempura, duck, eel and so on, and with the excellent quality of food and unlimited portions, it's hard to turn down.

The highlights of our evening were definitely the chawan mushi, tempura, salmon toro aburi and Wagyu sirloin. Thank you very much, Miss Kasumi, for your generous hospitality, and you can be sure we will be back again soon with smiles on our faces.

UPDATED REVIEW - *4.5 stars

This is my second time at Miss Kasumi and I was really excited to see what has changed about the restaurant. Firstly, they now have an extensive menu with an $55 all you can eat option (not including premium dishes) - which I found to be such an amazing deal and secondly, their quality of food has upped its game! I love seeing restaurants improving and this is a pure example of that. The moment we entered we were greeted by the welcoming staff members. The restaurant is set out beautifully. It’s perfect for date nights or a night out with family and friends. There’s also a sushi bar if you feel like omakase!

They also have a range of drinks to choose from, we opted for the lemon lime bitters and the Kasumi yogurt (mango and peach) - which is definitely a must try. If you guys love Calpis peach, this taste just like it but in creamy yogurt form!

Dishes we ordered:
Fois Gras Chawan Mushi - this is like an egg custard and this was actually really nice. The egg custard was nice and creamy/smooth and the fois gras gave it a nice buttery beefy taste to it.

Shiitake Scallop - this was quite an interesting dish. It was more shiitake than scallops but the scallop purée worked really well with the shiitake.

Salmon Carpaccio - one of my favourite dishes of the night. The quality of the salmon is amazing. I loved how they seared the salmon and it just melted in your mouth. The flavours and the sauce used were spot on!

Pork Gyoza - Gyoza’s here in Melbourne are always a miss for me but I’m excited to say that this one is a hit! There was great flavour to the filling and the skin of the Gyoza was thin and they were also a decent size.

Chirashizushi - I loved the way they played this dish. It was colourful and delicate. I just want to point out the great service when receiving this dish - it’s nice that the wait staffs were considerate about getting us two bowls and a spoon - just those little attention to the customer service made the experience a lot better. Anyways, back to the food, loved this bowl of goodness. I enjoyed the flavour that was put into the rice and the fish was fresh and the sauce they used gave it a good punch to the dish. The vinegar rice was made very well! Delicious!

Toro sashimi - Yummmmm, even though the portions are small, the toro was very fresh! It melted in my mouth and it reminded me of Japan. I loved this dish and if you love toro as much as me, defs give this dish a try - it’s worth it! - also, I enjoyed that the chef came out and made the wasabi in front of us. I didn’t even know it was made that way!

Live Oysters - the oysters were a bit salty but still delicious. I enjoyed both the onion vinaigrette and the yuzu dressing.

Lobster- the lobster dish looked beautiful when plated. The tails were peaking out from underneath of the bed of mushrooms. The lobster was a tad dry but it had really good flavour!

THE SUSHIII - tbh, I loved all the sushi we had and I do recommend trying every one of them. My favourite was the toro, salmon, salmon toro and the seared salmon. The fish is very fresh and they all just melt in your mouth. The pieces of fish were very generous! A must when you’re here!!

The staff here are very attentive, they fill up our glasses regular and tell us what they serve us, which is really nice. Tbh, for the $55 dollar pp all you can eat, it’s definitely worth it for the quality of food you’re getting and the great service!

Overall, I would definitely come back again and try out more stuff. I would probably have to starve myself the whole day to try everything! Great to see amazing improvements

Thank you for having us.

I have mixed thoughts on this restaurant. I really enjoyed all the sushi and nigiri. Some were better than others. I wouldn’t say it was the freshest sashimi I’ve had. There were a few that were slightly chewy and gave a weird after taste. The beef tataki was mediocre. The kaanage was tender but needed more sauce. The tuna steak main was a huge let down. It didn’t even taste like tuna more like over cooked chicken. The wagyu steak was nice but was also chewy. Dessert was cute, I really liked the black sesame ice cream. The staff were really attentive and service was quick. Overall, average night.

This is modern and innovative Japanese and I can’t believe we haven’t tried this until now! We started with the smoked pork belly which was rather theatrical as the lid was removed and you’re hit with the smoky wafts and delicious flavours. The foie gras on custard was sinful. Prawn and vegetable tempura was light and fluffy and couldn’t be faulted. The crispy salmon skin salad was so more-ish. Our sashimi entree was melt in your mouth, and I really mean that. The thin layers of fish were of the highest quality. For mains we shared the wagyu which was perfectly seasoned and cooked with truffle fries. The Patagonian toothfish is something I’ve never encountered before. Apparently it’s caught 4000km off the coast of Australia - hence its rarity. By this stage we were so full we could only manage the panacotta for dessert which luckily, were served in shot glasses. The restaurant is fitted out very stylishly and staff were friendly and attentive. We had a chat with one of the chefs, Lee, who was extremely knowledgeable and proud of his work. Would definitely return!

out still hungry. However, Miss Kasumi’s $55 all you can eat menu definitely solves. Situated in Kew, the venue itself whilst large, still carries. with it an intimate oriental feel - think orchids on each table, cherry. blossoms adorning the walls and a quaint little wooden bridge separating two. parts of the restaurants.

Will come back for:
+ Angus Tataki
+ Foie Gras Chawan Mushi
+ Sashimi Entree
+ Tempura Mariawase
+ The Duck
+ Patagonia ToothFish

A modern Japanese eatery, Miss Kasumi serves up a pretty good spread of modern and traditional Japanese dishes. There were some standout dishes though that sits above the others. The tataki was thinly sliced, well dressed and super yum. The foie gras chawan mushi was luxuriously indulgent and smooth (although on the pricey side). The sashimi entree was really fresh, and expertly sliced and presented (wasabi could be stronger). The tempura was super light, crisp and moorish. The duck was cooked to perfection and well balanced. All leading to the star of the night, the Patagonia toothfish. Smokey and charred skin, protecting a delicate, flakey flesh that was super delicious. That is a long list of good dishes, and they didn’t do much wrong here. We did also tried the wagyu sirloin, and found the beef tougher than expected but still flavoursome. Service was exceptional, prices for some dishes are at the fine dining end (but you get what you pay for), and the vibe of the place was modern and stylist. The feed me option (all you can eat) looks attractive for what you get also for a special occasion. Will definitely be back!

So pleased to be invited back here again tonight it really is such a phenomenal restaurant and the interiors are absolutely stunning. Such a modern and contemporary fit out with a gorgeous well stocked bar and the option for traditional tatami style seating in a very zen corner of the space.

We began the evening with cocktails the Tokyo Rose for me (delicious) and the Listen to the Rain for my dining companion which had a very subtle flavour. The freshest of salmon sashimis followed by wagyu beef seared sushi were up next. The dishes came out very quickly which was good because by 7pm the place was unbelievably busy, particularly considering it was a Tuesday night.

We then had the salmon carpaccio and the beef tataki both of these dishes were exceptionally tasty and spectacularly plated. A tempura prawn bao next which had such a delicious flavour and then the fried chicken which was wonderfully crunchy but probably my least favourite, not that there was anything particularly wrong with it but the standards here are just so high.

For mains we had the poached salmon which was cooked perfectly and has a lovely sweet flavour. The wagyu sirloin was succulent but some of the fatty bits were unpleasant to eat. We then decided to forgo dessert to sample some of the staff recommended dishes. By this point I was full but my dining companion was extremely impressed with the soft shell crab maki, wild mushroom pipe and the octopus karaage from the special section of the menu.

If you have a healthy appetite I’d definitely recommend taking up their feed me $55 menu whereby you can really indulge until bursting. There are only a select few premium dishes excluded from this option so it’s quite good value and a great way to try the broad variety on offer from this sensational venue

Original review
Wow what can I say this place literally knocked my socks off. What an absolute pleasure to be invited here last night. Open a mere two and a half months and already the epitome of fine dining Japanese cuisine.

Our table provided a great view of the sashimi chef who I gazed at in rapture as he sliced away with the precision of a surgeon. We started off with a round of cocktails, I had to try the kasumi slipper which was a delicious rendition but also sampled the iced tea which was garnished with popcorn that imparted a deliciously unique flavour. I also enjoyed the Eill and Sakura which was beautifully presented to resemble the French flag.

The drinks only got better as we sampled the mocktails with the watermelon pina colada and the ‘your name’ which was hands down my favourite concoction. It’s a secret recipe and a must try. If you can work out the ingredients please let me know! We engaged in the ten course indulgence menu (and what an indulgence it was).

I was absolutely awestruck by the beauty of each dish that came to the table. Immaculate attention to detail not only in terms of presentation but also composition and balance of such delicate flavours. And the gold leaf garnish provided an even greater wow factor. I’ve only ever seen gold leaf on deserts so it was a lovely surprise on the flawless sushi.

My personal favourites from the cold appetiser section were the Angus beef tataki and the salmon tartare. There was a lovely sauce on the tataki and the salmon paired with the creamy avocado was heavenly. A winning combination.
In the hot appetiser section I loved the deep friend chicken with homemade mayonnaise. It had a yummy subtle kick to it and was very moorish.

I didn’t even know there was such a thing as King George sashimi but when it’s as fresh as it at Miss Kasumi (they buy it every day) its an absolute delight to eat. A great addition to the faultless sashimi course. My only criticism of any of the amazing courses we had was the tempura batter being a bit too thick.

The mains were stellar. The wafu porterhouse was absolutely sensational and the miso poached salmon just spectacular. Delicately poached with a delicious subtle flavour.
The chefs dessert changes daily and we had a summery mango sorbet with coconut cream topped by a profiterole and a mini macaron. It was utterly the perfect way to finish the meal. Just super light and refreshing. Not particularly Japanese though which I suppose is where the contemporary aspect comes into it (and it certainly factors in the exquisite presentation).

We had all expected the dessert to be something matcha related so we were overjoyed to see something totally different, particularly given most of us at the table weren’t green tea lovers. I adored this experience so much I’ve already recommended a colleague at work make a booking stat for his next date night. I can’t remember eating a better Japanese meal. Ever.

Miss Kasumi at Kew. Overall it should be 4.5 but the service and whole ambience was poor when I visited. Too loud with rude customers and staff were busy but not organised. Anyway best unagi don so far I had in Melbourne. It is a good thumbs up. Also the sashimi was nicely presented and tasty. Only thing the size is a bit small thus pricy. Will definitely go back but hope the service can be improved.

We went to Miss Kasumi for dinner and the place was big and very nicely decorated. There were a lot of diners inside even on a weekday.

We got the Indulgence dinner set menu and the food was just amazing! It was very very filling, and there was a choice to re-order any dishes again after we finished - but no, we can't fit in anymore food as we have already two extra dishes as the waitress suggested these are new dishes - the twice cooked pork belly chilli slices and the foie gras chawanmushi (steamed egg). The pork belly slices were really flavourful and slightly salty, and the foie gras chawanmushi was really nice and unique.

We had the starter seasonal platter which was a very pretty glass pyramid type with a little bit of everything - seaweed salad, smoked pork belly bite with saffron and some radish plate.

Next we had the Hamachi (thinly cut kingfish) served with Jalapeno dressing, coconut and lime, as well as the Signature Oyster which was served with salmon roe, sea urchin and ponzu sauce. Both of these are so fresh and nice!

For the hot appetisers, we had the Nama Shii Hotate which is mashed baby scallops, served with quail egg and topped with shiitake mushroom, deep fried to perfection. It was a very interesting dish and the first time i've had something like that! The Wild mushroom pipe was pretty unique too as it was truffle infused mushrooms wrapped in thin pastry dough, deep fried and served with homemade japanese mayonaise. The waitresses said it's her favourite dish, and it's also my partner's favourite too!

The Sushi and sashimi selection looked amazing. Everything looked so awesome on the plate - the raw sashimi, the sushi, etc. There were doubles of each so my partner and I can try one of each. The chef also came out and grated some fresh wasabi for us. He mentioned that the real wasabi shouldn't be a green colour, and that it should taste like wine. It was indeed very strong and smelt really nice - almost had tears from a little taste on the chopsticks!

The tempura entree had an assortment of prawns, pumpkin, sweet potato, and beans in a light tempura batter. It was very crunchy and light, and tasted extremely nice with the sauce it came with.

We also had the mushroom red miso and the traditional clear sweaweed soup with shimeji and tofu. By then, we were really full but we haven't even had the mains yet!

So the Charcoal grilled duck breast came out, it was thinly sliced and served with yuzu gel. It just looked and tasted amazing! I had the miso lobster which was slow cooked and flame seared with mushroom mix and truffle miso dressing. I found this was a bit too salty but they were very considerate to cut up the lobster meat pieces so you didn't have to dig and cut them out. There was a lot of lobster meat!

Finally, the desserts were some daifuku bites (filled mochi) and something that tastes like tofu pudding, as well as some black sesame panna cotta which was slightly bitter and full of black sesame taste.

Overall, my partner and I really enjoyed our experience at Miss Kasumi, the staff were friendly and professional, the food looked and tasted amazing and we were very satisfied and full!

I'd definitely recommend this place for someone who likes fresh japanese food and a great experience. Thank you for inviting us.

We were thrilled to revisit Miss Kasumi last night. Our last experience here was a delight and tonight was again enjoyable. We had previously enjoyed a set menu dining so tonight decided to dine a la cart and selected our own meals from a impressively long menu. They have a feed me now option which was a set price for unlimited selections but we wanted a few premium dishes that weren’t available of the feed me now menu.

Cocktails were terrific. We ordered the very Japanese Kasumi. Slipper (aka a Japanese slipper). A perfect, ice cold start with quite a kick, just perfect for winding down on a ‪Friday night‬.

We also tried the listen to the rain which was like an alcoholic green tea, with Hendricks gin and matcha.powder. One for the adventurous.

The last cocktail we tried was the Tokyo sunset, which was a sublime mix of watermelon and lychee, strong and delicious, yum.

Food wise we ordered a number of smaller dishes to try and found after eating them all we were too full for mains. The Miso, soup was flavoursome with a generous serve of the thinnest slivers of spring onions resulting in one of the tastiest misos around.

The Sashimi entree was so incredibly fresh, all of the fish was cut very professionally to and the salmon in particular just melted in your mouth.

Twice cooked Kakuni (pork belly) was served and with a chilli garlic sauce and arrived on top of some super crunchy crackling, so flavoursome. Eat this dish before that crunchy crackle soaks up the juice from the meat on top.

Jidori kaarage, was a succulent fried chicken with a little hint of chilli, I loved the accompaniment of the light citrus mayo, bringing some freshness to the deep fried chicken, very clever.

The Salmon carpaccio, was a delicate dish, lightly cooked served in a delicious soy dressing which paired perfectly with the slightly smoked bbq flavour, extremely tasty.

Tempura moriawaise with prawn & veg was super crunchy,  the prawns where insanely juicy, very tasty, the batter was nice and light with a superior crunch. We had this dish previously and enjoyed the tempura more tonight.

The chilled citrus soba noodles where  incredible, they arrived with a big bang of chilli and some complex flavours of sesame, soy, citrus, for such a simple looking dish it had hidden depth of flavours.

We finished off with a couple of dessert tasting plate, came with a Black sesame panna cotta that reminded me of peanut butter, it has a very light texture but full of flavour. The two Mochi puddings on the plate had different flavours,  a green tea filled with red bean and a sakura (cherry blossom).

Thanks again to Miss Kasumi for their hospitality.

Previous Review
I came to Miss Kasumi with a couple of foodie friends to try out their 10 course banquet menu. Not only was the menu creative and extremely well presented I left feeling full, which isn’t always the case when fine dining Japanese. The 10 course menu cost $125 and for that you got a theatrical starter, hot and cold appetiser, sushi and sashimi plates, tempura, soup, rice, main and dessert.

We had delightful cocktails to start the meal off. The Kasumi Slipper was perhaps the favourite amongst the group. The mocktails were also very impressive and I loved the “Your Name” mocktail which was vaguely described on their menu. Waiting staff gave nothing away telling me “its a secret”. I would love to know what’s in it. If anyone finds out please let me know.

Our starter was a three stacked glass dish. There was a smokey top layer which was lifted to reveal a delicious crumbed pork belly with shredded chilli. I ate several others due to many on the table (all but me in fact) not eating pork. The lifting of the lid was theatrical and the smoke fragrant and nicely infused and was a perfect introduction.

We next received the cold entree. I claimed the oyster sake shot and shared a taste of the other colds. Favourite here was the Angus Beef Tataki.

Hot entrees were served and delightfully presented again. This time I really had to try them all as they looked so good. Standouts for me was the scollop, quail egg mushroom dish and the creatively styled fried chicken. Even the tofu was delicious.

Next plates were some of my favourite. The sushi and sashimi plates with gold leaf were stunning. I observed our sashimi being cut and was absolutely impressed with the knife skills. Garfish, Salmon, King George and others favourites fresh and vibrant on my plate... then in my belly.

We had tempura next and to be honest I was disappointed with this dish. The batter was too thick and not subtle and I felt a little bit overwhelmed with a the amount of oil. They did have a good array of items including enoki that I have seen beautifully fanned at at other restaurants but were a little clumpy here.

I love miso and that came next in two varieties. Standard white miso and red bean miso The red bean miso was more flavoursome while white was and old friend. I also tried the clear broth mushroom soup that was rich and quite sweet. Along with the soups there was a cup of rice that was also cooked in a stock so very flavoursome.

Mains were up next. There was quite a mix of classical dishes like the poached miso salmon and the sliced rear wagyu. I regularly cook miso salmon at home but nowhere near to the subtleness of miso flavour and fall apart tenderness that we experienced here tonight.

We also tried the amazingly presented lamb cutlet that had been well cleaned and was a perfect specimen. This was the smallest main we ordered and if I had only eaten this while others indulged in theirs I might have been disappointed in term of quantity... taste was spot on though and it had a slight sweet crumb.

Perhaps the most creatively presented dish was soft shell crab nori taco which had a hint of spiced chilli. I loved this item but think my favourite overall was the salmon.

Lastly were were served chefs choice dessert which came out in a cocktail glass with coconut on the rim and the most teetering stack of dessert items I have seen. A coconut/mango sorbet base with a mini profiterole and a mini macaron on top. Delicately delivered to our table. I was too busy taking photos so my tower looked like it came from Pisa by the time I got to eat it. Such a lovely way to end the meal.

We were invited to Miss Kasumi in the heart of Kew to try their dinner menu. They have quite an extensive menu with lots of different choices. We found the menu quite 'busy' but with some direction, it was eventually reasonable to navigate.

There were many unique and innovative items. Everything was presented beautifully and the quality of the food was top notch. Some highlights include:

Salmon tartar with crispy rice - this was fresh with lots of exciting textures. The salmon was lovely.

Chawanmushi - this came with a giant sized prawn. It was almost too pretty to eat....almost.

Tempura moriawase - enoki mushrooms with tempura batter...every bite was crunchy and savoury. The other vegetables were also beautifully prepared. The batter was not over powering.

Wagyu steak - this was the best dish of the night. The beef was cooked perfectly and the miso sauce was a great accompaniment.

Black sesame pana cotta - what an exquisite dessert! The consistency was just right and the black sesame was a great way to end the meal.

Service was slow at times and these high quality dishes come at a premium. Overall, we had a lovely night.

Miss Kasumi is a gorgeous Japanese restarant in Kew and we were thoroughly impressed with the meals served! The restaurant itself is well decorated, spacious and it even has a Japanese bridge to walk over. Our top favorite meals were the amazingly tasty Angus Tataki with garlic chips and garlic vinaigrette, the 77 degree octopus and the well-cooked quail eggs! This dining experience is more of the higher end Japanese food, suitable for special occasions or just because!

😱Lizzie’s first impression: I was quickly impressed by the interior inspired by the Japanese architecture. The staff are very welcoming and friendly!

🍩Lizzie enjoyed: we chose the omakase that was around $89 a head I believe and it was amazing! Each dish was made with care and the staff really made sure they explained to us what the dishes were. I especially loved the steamed eggs with prawns - it was silky smooth and cooked perfectly. I also really enjoyed the main dishes of duck and also salmon! The tempura dish was very generous

🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: It is a little further away from the city but definitely worth paying a visit if you’re close by. The dessert was lovely but I felt there was too much flavours going on.

🥇Lizzie rates overall: I loved the interior and I would definitely come back for more - especially to celebrate a special occassion!

There’s good feasting to be had over at Miss Kasumi, but mind you, it pays to have a good look at the menu before you go—there’s so many tasty-looking options and only so much tummy room.
The first thing I noticed upon walking in was the ambient and spacious lay-out. Pleasant lighting and decor was also quite a stand-out feature for me. It also never got very loud on a Friday night, despite being full to capacity from probably 7.30-9. I would say it’s a great spot for group dining and even for large groups. The staff were as attentive as possible and very good natured and friendly.
The menu goes for a bit of a flamboyant take on presentation for mainly traditional Japanese dishes, as well as for some others which have a nice conceptual twist to them. We attempted to sample a variety across the large menu based on their recommendations.
From the starters we tried the angus tataki and live oyster. These were okay. The tataki had a few elements to it, with not all blending together nicely on the palate. The garlic vinaigrette was overpowering also, however it was not an unpleasant dish. The oysters were small and quite flavourless, thought certainly fresh enough. The sushi and sashimi was very good, and I wouldn’t expect any less considering the image Miss Kasumi conveys as a Japanese restaurant. The toro sashimi was the pick of these for me—it really redefined the meaning of melt-in your-mouth, basically dissolving into the palate, leaving the smooth flavour to be savoured. The sashimi moriawase entree contained the typical trio of tuna, salmon and kingfish. These were all of a high standard, and the kingfish was particularly impressive, being beautifully delicate and with not one tough/stringy bit to it. We ordered a few of the premium nigiri sushi too. One was the Anago (sea eel), and this was quite delicious. It was smoother and silkier than typical unagi, and was served as a large piece. They grilled it lightly, and this was a good touch and suits the type of flesh. We also had the scampi, which had great texture. I felt it was lacking some depth to the flavour, but my partner didn’t notice this. The last one was one of the types of clam, although I don’t think this one appears on the menu anymore as it is probably a seasonal catch. I don’t recall was it was called, but it was decent in size for clam. It was nice and flavourful—but not something for those who don’t like fishy flavours.
We also enjoyed a few things from the specials menu. The smoky pork belly was a bit of theatre, emerging from under a glass of trapped smoke. I daresay this was a tad gimmicky, but the pork was soft and juicy, even though the ball of belly meat was small and not particularly dense in terms of meat. The mushroom pipe was basically a mixed mushroom spring roll (quite a big one). But I don’t think it was spring roll pastry that was used from memory. The end result was really quite delicious, much better than it sounds on paper. Juicy inside and very tasty. I’ve forgotten the name of the dish, but one was a mixed mushroom tempura, compacted together into a tempura ball with a quail egg encased on top. This was quite nice, a good combo. The final three savory dishes to come out were the black cod, king crab tempura and scampi red miso soup. The black cod was nice, although I’ve had nicer cod dishes elsewhere. Still the flavours were all there and the flesh, although slightly dryer than expected, was still pleasant. The king crab tempura was very nice—the flavours of the crab and succulence of the flesh hadn’t been lost, and the quality of the batter and the cooking was not brilliant, but of a good standard. This was the same deal with the standard tempura moriawase we’d had earlier with the other dishes. This included king prawns and seasonal veggies. The scampi red miso soup was a nice dish to finish with. It was great to relish that rich miso flavour and not have to contend with any saltiness. We got a whole scampi sitting inside it, and it’s flavour had been subtly infused into the soup, and the scampi itself was delicious. Dessert was okay. I ordered the crispy puffs in three flavours, I think the flavours were coconut, green tea and mango. All were not bad, but not packing anything that lit up the palate. The matcha pagoda was an interesting looking dessert, basically a tower of sweet goodies. The elements didn’t go together brilliantly, but individually they were good.
Overall, an enjoyable experience. Excellent customer service. A great spot for groups, with some very nice authentic fare and tasty contemporary stuff. The only downside would be that if you were looking for a Japanese meal for this price and not in a group, you’d be compelled to choose a more traditional restaurant.

Miss Kasumi quietly opened up late last year, taking its place on the corner that used to be the home of Tassal’s outlet store and cafe. It’s slick and spacious, and even has a seating right at the sushi bar. The quality of the seafood used in the sushi is top notch – the anago and salmon toro nigiri are particularly mouthwatering.

Miss Kasumi is one of the best Japanese restaurant in Melbourne. Very fresh food and delicious.
We start our meal with sashimi 9pc. The sashimi was plated elegantly and it was very fresh.
-The king crab & vegetables tempura came out hot with coating of the crisp tempura batter which bring a great mouthfeel.
-The Wagyu sirloin was brilliant with mushroom mix and truffle miso. It just so tender and just melted in your mouth.
-For the niku udon, it looks so appetising. Flavourful broth with chewy udon, strips of beef and a runny egg because egg yolks are the best!
-The cod is well cooked and was definitely a highlight. It was flaky and caramelised with miso dressing.
-lobster was sweet, tender yet meaty with a pleasant taste of miso. Very well cooked!
There was also dessert- Matcha pagodas which was matcha ice cream with puff and macaroon. It is delicious and well presented. Also, we have the dessert tasting plate with sorbet, macaroon, puff and cheesecake.
Everything was perfect. The staff is friendly & attentive and the atmosphere at the restaurant was very cosy.
Overall very good service and quality. However, the portion size is not big and quite pricey when compare to other japanese restaurant. Will definitely come back for sure.

A very elegant and modern Japanese restaurant located in Kew. The interior is clean, dark and spacious, and the atmosphere is intimate and quite romantic. They have a variety of seating options, including a sushi bar, drinks bar, large and small tables, and even a traditional Japanese style table where you sit on the ground.

The dishes here are a very contemporary take on traditional Japanese cuisine, with an extensive menu ranging from fresh sashimi and sushi, to creative entrees and mains. Everything is presented beautifully and they are very attentive to detail. We tried a variety of different dishes on our visit, and were honestly mind-blown by everything. Our favourites include:
- Salmon toro aburi & toro (tuna belly) nigiri: Extremely fresh and absolutely divine! The fish instantly melts as soon as it touches your mouth! Definitely a must-try!
- Smoky pork belly: This dish is a theatrical presentation in itself! Served in a small, clear container shaped like a mini volcano, and when the lid is removed the smoke explodes from the top! On top of this, the pork belly was absolutely delicious! Coated in a crispy batter, and with the perfect amount of melt-y pork fat on the inside!
- Hotate blossom: This is one of their unique specialities. A zucchini flower stuffed with fresh scallop and fish roe, coated in a crispy tempura batter and lightly fried. You’ll be in for a surprise when you take a bite as it’s extremely juicy and flavourful! Highly recommended!
- Poached salmon: The salmon is cooked to perfection - flakes apart easily and melts in your mouth! The miso dressing is divine - slightly sweet, slightly salty, and very umami! Definitely a highlight dish of the night!
- Goma Moon (dessert): Again, another extravagant theatrical display in itself. The chef poured the liquid nitrogen into the bowl in front of us, which cooled down the tofu-sesame-pudding-like dessert and created an beautiful and unique texture. The sesame added a nice subtle fragrance, and the whole dessert was very light and refreshing! An amazing dish to finish the night!

The staff are also extremely friendly and accommodating, and we were well taken care of throughout the whole night. Service is very attentive, but the dishes do come out quite slowly. Nonetheless, we had a very pleasant time at Miss Kasumi, and I would highly recommend coming here!

Date Night with the hubby at Miss Kasumi last Tuesday. Although it was a great location on high street with the tram running pass it and plenty of spaces for parking in the front and sides, it was fairly quiet this evening. The fitout was very contemporary, warm and inviting. Especially that gorgeous blossom tree design in the corner.

Smoky Pork Belly – Awesome presentation with the smokiness but I think the pork belly needs to be a bit more tender. The smoky flavour is there but very faint.

Sashimi – hubby thoroughly enjoyed this entrée. Light and fresh and professionally cut so they it slides down smoothly. Ohh and nicely displayed on a sea urchin shell too! Totes Instagram worthy!

Ebi-Ten Maki – They got me at tempura prawn! The rice was sweet and soft, that went with the crunchy prawns! I literally ate more than half of this myself!

Hotate Blossom – I’ve always wanted to try a stuff Zucchini flower and this was my first time! Yay! Hubby liked it but I found that the Scallop and Fish roe was a bit too mushy for me. Very nicely presented though.

Jidori Karaage – MmMM… a must try dish. The Japanese fried chicken was fried to perfection with a crisp texture on the outside and super juicy and tender on the inside.

The Duck – My fav dish of the night!! Charcoal grilled duck breast was perfectly cooked with a touch of pinkness in the middle. The skin was nicely charred with a crispy, the Yuzu gel complemented the flavour of the duck with a touch of sourness and sweetness. Nicely paired with a bowl of Japanese rice!

Miso Lobster – Another pretty dish with a full Lobster tail, deconstructed with tender meat, juicy mushroom mix, hint of Ginger flavour and nice warm Truffle miso jus.

Chilled Soba Noodles – Perfect Organic soba, with a flavoursome Spicy dipping sauce. The thickness of the noodles is easily comparable to that of spaghetti pasta.

Dessert Platter – Couldn’t decide so we went with the platter which included all the goodies in bite size. There were a bit of the Black Sesame Panna Cotta which was smooth and had a good nutty flavour. The puff was slightly dry but the cream inside it was very tasty. And the Black sesame ice-cream was good but I think I should have went with the Matcha ice-cream instead.

Overall a lovely meal! We definitely over ordered but it’s always good to try a range of dishes available. Ohh yeahh go for the passionfruit mocktail smoothie… it’s like a delicious lassi! MmM… Service was also very efficient which added to the great evening.

Fairly new Japanese restaurant with modern/Japanese decoration style features creative Japanese cuisine. Large dining area with sushi bar tables which make people feel quite relaxed and comfortable.

The menu was really interested featuring different classic Japanese dishes but with creative twist. There were lots of nigiri sushi and sushi rolls to choose. The service was friendly and quick.

The #salmon toro sashimi # were really nice, smooth and rich, just loved the way they melted in your mouth.

#Hatate Blossom# was stuffed zucchini flower with scallops and fish roe, beautifully presented in a little box. The stuffing were delicious but scallops were blended too small. It would be better if leave some cubes of scallops to creative more texture.

Charcoal grilled #duck breast# sliced into thin pieces and served with Yuzu gel and micro green. The duck meat was tender and the Yuzu gel added some sweetness and citrus flavour into the dish and made the dish shine. I loved the creative idea.

#Goma moon# was a tofu(pudding) that made of white sesame with a maple leaves on top. It came with some dry ice and made it very elegant and pretty. The tofu was smooth with strong and nice sesame taste; too sweet and the cold maple soup was light. Perfect dish to finish off the dinner!

There are lots of interesting dishes I want to try next time such as the black cod soup, nori waffle, 77degree octopus etc. The overall price was not cheap, the portion was not big. But Miss Kasimi did added extra taste into classic Japanese dishes and make this place very attractive.

If you’re after a quiet and intimate setting at a Japanese restaurant, then Miss Kasumi is the way to go. Miss Kasumi does a modern take on Japanese food in a very elegant way. All the dishes are plated beautifully, and you can really tell that a lot of effort went into the presentation of the dishes.
Some of the notable dishes of the night for me were the Tempura Moriawase and the Black Sesame Panna Cotta. The tempura prawns were substantial and extremely crunchy and fresh - the batter was just perfect! With the king prawns also came some tempura vegetables such as tempura green beans and pumpkin- of course fried to perfection as well.
Although we don’t usually indulge in Japanese dessert, the Black Sesame Panna Cotta caught our eyes, and we thought we’d give it a go. It was quite interesting, and we felt that the Panna Cotta went especially well with the raspberries.
Some other dishes we ordered included the starter dish called Dobin Mushi and their tofu steak main dish. Whilst the tofu steak dish looked pretty and inviting, the flavours were unfortunately lacking a little. I would have liked some more teriyaki sauce drizzled over the tofu. As for the sushi, the bluefin and kingfish sushi were very fresh!
Overall, an enjoyable evening spent at Miss Kasumi. The staff were extremely helpful and attentive!

Girls night out at Miss Kasumi! On the hills of Kew is a very well decorated japanese restaurant. The interior is stunning with glass walls and a little japanese style bridge. There are tables, booth and a sushi bar to choose from.

The new menu is quite extensive with a range of sashimi, sushi, noodle and rice dishes as well as ala carte dishes.

For starters we had the sashimi platter. The fish was fresh and beautifully presented on an iced sea urchins shell. We also had their special Chawanmushi topped with salmon row. It was the perfect balance of sweet and salty.

For our mains we had the king crab tempura, Wagyu sirlion and Cod fish. Each dish was beautifully plated with clean flavours.

For dessert we had the magical sweet sesame tofu pudding. It had a firm nutty texture.

I can see very mixed reviews below but we had a lovely meal at Miss Kasumi. It was a very quiet night early in the week. We had rapid an attentive service and every dish was a delight - exquisite and creative. I would love to go with a group and sample more. I certainly would not describe this as "casual dining" as the Zomato headline reads, it is quite formal and stylish (and not inexpensive). We will definitely return.

We are here as a group of three last night. I was surprised to see the amazing job they have done with the decor (this was once the Tassal outlet). It’s a fresh and inviting, modern feel with a cute little bridge dividing the dining areas.

The food was spectacular! We tried several Nigiri Sushi dishes, the Hotate one being the absolute standout!
The Spicy Maki roll was a superb mix of sweet, savoury and spicy, with incredibly tender tuna sashimi.
The Shiitake Scallop was sensational, again a perfect blend of flavours.
The Alaskan King Crab Tempura was very nice, however it was just one crab leg, not the ‘assortment’ as stated on the menu. The tempura vegetables that came with it were excellent. However at $37, we had wrongly assumed a larger portion. This didn’t detract from what was a great dinner.

To finish off, the staff were warm and inviting. They were sensitive to our limited time, with a little persuasion. The only feedback would be to offer the food menu if drinks are declined, rather than taking the drinks menus away and not returning.

Before we start on this extensive review, we would just like to give thanks to the team at Miss Kasumi for extending an invitation to try out their restaurant- to summarise, we will be back. If you want to know what we think without reading this story that is about to be presented, all you need to know is that we have found the best Sushi / Salmon Sashimi perhaps in the country and world. This is a big claim considering we have been to the Tsukiji Fish markets in Japan, and have had the best Sushi in Japan, with critically acclaimed restaurants at our repertoire. But it is Miss Kasumi that we must give the title of best Sushi, albeit best meal we have ever had in our lives.

Welcomed immediately upon entering the restaurant, you will notice just how beautiful and inviting the interior is, with a certain ambience that evokes feelings of luxury, peace, tranquil and a true modern Japanese establishment. The music in the background sets you and prepares you for a culinary experience that is befitting of an authentic experience, whilst the staff are always on hand, enthusiastic and accomodating to your every need. Today we decided to try out some foods and also stay loyal to our passions in the realms of Salmon Sashimi. Up first was the Aburi Salmon. All we can say is wow. This was the best Aburi Salmon we have ever eaten. Almost marble-like, the fish literally melts in your mouth whilst the rice is so delicate and compliments the soft touch of the fish. It is like the salmon kisses your every taste bud as it slowly slides into your belly. Outstanding, and definitely a must get. Next was the Salmon Sashimi and the Marbled Salmon Sashimi. Again, amazing. Easily the best sashimi we have ever had with freshness and texture incomparable to anywhere else in Melbourne, albeit Japan! Each taste marvelled and astounded us with just how good it really was- to the point that we were shaking our heads and truly enjoying every second of the meal.

If you thought that was enough, have a try of the Salmon TarTar. A perfect blend of Salmon and avocado on a delicious crispy chip-like base, the flavours exhibited in this tasteful delicacy were extraordinary. Never have we tasted something so fused together, so fresh, so succulent. We highly recommend this, and the Salmons we ordered before- we promise you it is the best out there, albeit our all-time favourite!

Following the fish came the Beef Tataki, Pork Belly, King Crab meat with tempura vegetables and dessert. Everything was very good, much better than average and in comparison to other similar Japanese restaurants. The crab meat delicious, almost coming out of its shell so delicately and melting in your mouth with flavour, but all of this seemed to be great, just not perfect like the Salmon preceding it which truly stole the show and our hearts respectively. Dessert was also tasteful if you are a fan of Matcha.

Overall a very pleasant dining experience backed with amazing ambience and service, and truly the home of the best Sushi and Salmon Sashimi we have ever had. We will be coming back for this Sashimi and we cannot recommend this establishment enough. Miss Kasumi, you have been a blessing to dine at!

What a delight to finally try Miss Kasumi after having it bookmarked for some time. My partner and I had the indulgence course and thoroughly enjoyed each and every bite. The course unlike most degutations allow you to choose a dish of your preference throughout majority of the meal , the course is quite generous with its servings ( it may not seem so at first ) as it builds up as each meal passes by. The highlights for me included the sashimi, the prosciutto osyter and the wagyu beef.

We also found the service was impeccable, the staff were extremely helpful , professional and welcoming . From the moment you step inside until you leave your made to feel comfortable - shout out to Felicity who made our experience so much more enjoyable

Miss Kasumi invite me and a friend to try their menu tonight and we tried their indulgence degustation menu. I love it how within the degustation you get a few choices to suit everyone’s taste.

First to arrive was the appetizers of daikon, seaweed salad and applewood smoked fried pork which was dramatically presented in three tiered glasses. The fried pork was the highlight here, it was crunchy and succulent with a faint hint of smokiness.

I then had a kingfish ceviche w jalapeño coconut and lime and my friend had a beef tartare. The kingfish was fresh but I can’t taste the coconut to be honest. The beef tartare was slightly too salty for me but my friend loved it.

We shared a scallop and mushroom tempura and also had a deep fried oyster wrapped in prosciutto. Even though we both really want the scallops I think we both agreed that the oyster was the highlight - I think I will be dreaming about it tonight.

Now here is where I am not 100% liking the order of my dishes. Thinking about it now, I like my dishes coming from lighter flavour then increasingly stronger in flavours, but we were served the sashimi and sushi after the deep fried stuff which I found was quite weird. That aside the sushi was amazing. We had uni, seared scallop, otoro and seared salmon and they were melt in your mouth.

By this time I was already quite full, but there is tempura to consume. They were freshly fried and the waitress refilled the dipping sauce for us when they realized we had it all.

Next up, I had a lighter clear soup with mushroom, and my friend had a miso. It was a nice break from all the oiliness of the tempura.

Those who like deep fried stuff can also choose their crab seaweed taco. I forgot I had chosen so many deep fried dishes already so this was a bit much, that being said that’s my fault for getting too excited and not thinking about the overall meal, not Miss Kasumi’s fault as their crab seaweed taco was fantastic and if I was to have this and just this I would have ordered a second piece.

My friend cleverly chose a lighter dish of seared tuna wrapped in seaweed. Initially she said it was melt-in-your-mouth but as it gets colder it gets a little tough. So pro-tip here: smash it and don’t linger.

The dessert was three dainty little morsels of green tea pannacotta, strawberry cheesecake and melt in your mouth macaron. Just enough to finish a very nice dinner.

Thank you Miss Kasumi for inviting us to dinner tonight 😋 your staff was attentive and friendly and we were very well taken care of.

We arrived excited to be finally at this very highly regarded modern Japanese restaurant. We left really delighted and satisfied.

We loved our experience at Miss Kashmi. The food and service are excellent. We liked the restaurant space itself. The decor is modern, stylish and attractive with appropriate reference to tradition. We both chose banquets, me the indulgence, the world’s most beautiful woman, the premium. Both are superb choices with numerous common elements that allow for ample choice throughout.

We began with the chef’s assorted seasonal platter which had three elements - pork belly, pickled radish and seaweed. All were superb. The dishes are served in a three tiered glass structure and their presentation involves a lovely moment of theatre. The pork belly is smoked and uncapped before your eyes testing sight and smell as the food is unveiled revealing pleasant puffs of smoke. We adored the dish, our favourite element being the radish which was exceptionally fresh, beautifully tasty with a delicate hint of crispness and deep flavour. I’ve never had it’s like. It was absolutely gorgeous.

Next, for cold appetizer, I had the Kashmi famous shooter, a fresh oyster served in sweet saki and lime, and the beautiful one had Angus beef tataki, consisting of flames black angus scotch fillet, sliced and served rare with fried garlic, onion and garlic vinaigrette. The oyster was lovely in the saki, the lime nicely evident. The angus beef was highly enjoyed as well. The beef melted in the mouth and had a nice garlic tang.

My partner had Nama Shii Hotate as her hot appetizer selection. This consists of a mashed baby scallop surrounding a quail egg topped with shiitake mushroom and deep fried. This has delicate flavour and the quail egg was cooked superbly. My hot appetizer selection was an unusual one, prosciutto wrapped oysters. This was a highly attractive dish with three pieces and is a superb combination that is both delicate and lovely to eat.

Next was the Sushi entree. I selected the deluxe sushi selection. This dish was astonishingly good. Put simply, I’ve never tasted sushi as good as this. It’s amazing. One piece rates very special mention. The O-toro is underbelly of blue fin tuna and was beautifully presented with a touch of gold leaf and is wonderfully tasty. I’ve eaten Japanese food hundreds of times. I’ve never tasted anything as delicately beautiful as this piece. It is beguiling.

We then both had the premium assortment of sashimi. This consisted of tuna, salmon, kingfish and snapper. This dish induced the sort of indecision in both of us that you only get at the best Japanese restaurants. This fish is of the very highest quality and each piece is exquisitely beautiful. The fish is so lovely to eat that it’s seriously hard to choose between them, hence the indecision. This is a magnificent dish that we both adored.

Next dish was the tempura entree, tempura moriawase, consisting of prawn, fish and vegetables - enoki and shiitake mushroom, sweet potato and bean. The batter was light as a feather and each piece was nicely cooked. Our joint favourite here was the shiitake mushroom piece. It was delectable.

Next was soup, and we both had the mushroom red miso, advertised as a rich version of miso soup served with mushrooms and tofu. This is another easy one. It absolutely lives up to the hype. This is hands down the best miso soup we both thought we’d ever had anywhere including at pricier Japanese restaurants. An astonishingly lovely miso soup. I’m not sure you could make a better one.

I had an added dish on the next course which was Kasumi’s Rice called Kinoko Gohan, tasty steamed rice with mixed mushrooms. This is a delicate and wonderfully seasoned rice. I enjoyed it very much and kept a little to use with the next course.

Main course was next. My selection was wagyu steak. This was beautiful and extremely tasty. My partner had the miso crusted lamb cutlets. The cutlets were very tender and also very lovely. Both excellent mains.

The final course was dessert which tonight was a modern and fun course consisting of a cute mini macaron, matcha mouse and raspberry cheesecake. Again, it was all expertly made and immensely satisfying. A terrific way to end a great meal.

A final word for the staff led by Olivia. They were wonderfully attentive, affable and very efficient throughout.

If the app allowed it, I’d rate Miss Kashmi 4.7 out of 5. It’s a super restaurant. This is a lovely spot. The banquet menus are lovely and chock full of gorgeous and innovative dishes that delight the senses.

Kew is most fortunate to have this excellent modern Japanese restaurant in its midst. We’ll be back.

(I would like to thank Miss Kasumi for inviting us to this superb restaurant.)

We dined at Miss Kasumi last Tuesday night where we were absolutely blown away by the quality of the food.
Upon arrival, we were seated close to the sushi/sashimi bar, which allowed us to observe all the intricacies of the preparation process. The chef was clearly very skilled and impressive to watch as he prepared various dishes. He was also very friendly and came to our table to explain a couple of the dishes, which we really appreciated.

The restaurant is decorated with various elements of Japanese culture, which include cherry blossoms, a zen garden, lanterns, cranes and a little wooden bridge that joins the two main rooms together. We found the décor to be very stylish and refined, creating a truly beautiful atmosphere.

For our meal, we decided to order a selection of dishes from their a la carte menu. While a few items stood out to us we were also grateful of the recommendations given to us by our waitress.

We started off with a piece of tuna nigiri each. The tuna was fantastic quality and we particularly like the way that it had been sliced which added to its texture. After the sushi we shared a mixed sashimi dish, which included salmon, tuna, scallop and three different types of white fish. The sashimi was absolutely stunning with the salmon being our favorite.

Our third dish was a surprise from the chef, which neither of us would have normally ordered, yet turned out to be one of our favorites of the night. It was a thin slice of eel on rice, which sounds simple however, the taste was so delicate and complex we loved it! What followed was another favorite of the night: the seared salmon carpaccio with teriyaki glaze. Presented beautifully, (in the shape of a star) we were in awe of how perfectly cooked the salmon was for such thin slices! The teriyaki/sesame/sauce combination was mouth wateringly good I was tempted to order another serving.

We then ordered the beef tataki, which was also beautifully presented, and we loved the garlic chip on top. Our salmon (main) dish was our third favorite of the night. Sweet, miso salmon contrasted with zesty pickled vegetables and crunchy carrots – this dish was exquisite! A must-try for any salmon lovers. To finish off, we shared one of their dessert tasting plates as well as their signature matcha ice-cream dish. The tasting plate had a combination of perfectly sized little treats (our favorite was the pannacotta) and the ice-cream was a refreshing finale for our palettes.

Overall, the whole dining experience was excellent. We could not fault the food. The combination of lovely service, intriguing décor and very extensive contemporary Japanese menu made for a truly memorable night. We would like to thank Miss Kasumi for inviting us and we will definitely be returning!

It's Chinese New Year today and we wanted to celebrate with a high quality meal. We were not disappointed. We were greeted by Eddie the manager and he was really friendly and offered some good recommendations. We ordered 6 entrees and 4 main cources. We ordered O-Toro, you don't come across this fine cut of tuna in ordinary Japanese restaurants. Angus beef tataki, fried oysters, steam egg in the shell, shiitake scallop, wild mushroom pipe. For.main we had Wagyu sirloin, tempura, Unagi and fish collar. All were delicious and presented beautifully! Will definitely go back!

Came here with a friend to celebrate both our belated birthdays as he'd just come back from Japan and it had been awhile since I last had any type of contemporary Japanese cuisine. Their menu is quite extensive so we just opted for their Indulgence set to take out the guess work and at the same time taste a full spectrum of flavours and styles.

Drinks. Weren't sure what to get so we got them to pick out a couple of cocktails for us. To our surprise they brought us out a couple of off-menu drinks soon to be added to their future menu. I'm no cocktail connoisseur, I just like drinking and had no complaints here! We went on to order another two cocktail creations off-menu that night and thoroughly enjoyed them, flavours were vibrant and fruity.

The starters came out which were assembled in a multi-layer container tower, each with a little morsel to get you going. Top tower was crumbed pork which upon unveiling released smoke in which it was infused. The pickled radish was perfect. Yes, radish. The shredded seaweed was also lightly pickled and enjoyable.

I got the creamy tuna with crispy nori chips which were lightly fried nori chips with finely diced tuna. Depending on how you like your raw tuna you could say that it was under seasoned but at the same time you can fully experience the freshness of the tuna.

The next item I ordered they ran out of, so I opted for their chawan mushi which was an egg omelette which had the consistency of custard with a small prawn tempura on top. It was delicate, light and fluffy.

I've been looking forward to the next item which was a selection of nigiri which the sushi chef crafted and delivered to our tables. He helped explain the types of sushi on our plate, chu-toro (medium tuna) being one of his favourite cuts where you get more balanced flavours and you can taste more of the tuna than it's fattier counterpart. Seems to be a trend that sushi chefs prefer the leaner cuts, kind of like how I prefer dark chocolate to normal milk chocolate. The other nigiri I really enjoyed was the fatty blow torched salmon belly, absolute bliss. Couldn't fault the sushi rice and the freshness of the fish and was advised not to add any soy sauce as any top sushi restaurant would have it.

Thank God it didn't end there, next was an assortment of sashimi where the o-toro (fatty tuna) with gold caught my eye. Pretty much was like butter, it was so so bad yet so so good! Again, freshness was just apparent across the plate.

I didn't expect much from the next dish which was an assortment of tempura. I've never had Michelin/hatted quality tempura before but I know what to expect. This being a contemporary Japanese restaurant they've got their focus on other things. Tempura was decent and I'd be happy eating it at any other Japanese restaurant but don't expect it to be too light and not oily.

Next two items came which was the red miso soup and kinoko gohan (rice with mushrooms), miso soup was decent but the rice was dry and felt like a filler. Actually it might have been nice to serve the rice in conjunction with the tempura. I did not finish the rice as I was getting pretty full at this stage and the previous dish of tempura was pretty heavy.

The mains came, fortunately/unfortunately it was small, in our case fortunate. No fillers here, just protein. I got the wagyu steak which was pre-cut and served with a mushroom miso sauce. Steak was perfectly cooked with some small sprigs of rosemary and the sauce was absolutely indulgent. I got to sample some of my friend's maguro steak, lightly seared tuna wrapped in nori served with an equally delicious sauce.

Dessert wasn't bad, a miniature set of bite sized creations which from memory included a matcha pudding, macaron and a layered cake with a berry puree. Portions were a bit off on this one as they always say, there's another stomach for dessert!

Staff were friendly and helpful and I can't fathom the amount of preparation that went into my meal. Hopefully my feedback will help them adapt and achieve their goals as I had an enjoyable experience.

Had an amazing time at dinner with friends at Miss Kasumi. The food was great - I particularly enjoyed the wagyu sirloin and Hamachi sashimi. The service staff was excellent as well! Would definitely recommend this for anyone looking for quality Japanese food and good ambience. Perfect for dates or a chill dinner.

Best to have Omakase here and if you want to try more fish you'd better to call first.
Fish is really fresh. If you are a raw fish lover, you must try Otoro. There are not many places in Melbourne you can have Otoro.
Price is really reasonable. Otoro is only $11, and last time Minamishima charged me $25 for one piece.

Miss Kasumi serves fantastic Japanese food that is high quality and has serious attention to detail. We thoroughly enjoyed all the food we ate and our delicious cocktails too. We highly recommend doing the set menus (we tried the vegetarian and the indulgence)- it’s great value for money (lots of sashimi on the indulgence thereby justifying the price) and takes away the stress of an extensive menu. Presentation and authenticity of food and flavouring here is great. Our top picks were the chefs sashimi of the day, the agedashi tofu, the crab taco and the avocado tartare. The matcha truffles as part of the dessert were simply to die for!!

We had the pleasure of dining at Miss Kasumi last evening. We arrived slightly earlier than our reservation but were seated very quickly.
We were served water and brought menus almost immediately after being seated. We were served by the restaurant manager Eddie for most of the night. Eddie was very smiley, polite and friendly and was always ready to answer any questions you had. I observed him patiently answering questions that the children at the next table had for him.
We decided to order from the a la carte menu. We started with 2 serves of the truffle infused mushroom pipe and the panko pork belly smoked in applewood. The truffle infused mushroom pipe was different types of mushrooms stuffed into a pastry and deep fried and served with spicy mayonnaise and leaves. The pastry was crunchy and the mushroom filling was subtly perfumed with truffle oil. The leaves were peppery and went well with adding a different layer of texture and taste to the dish. The panko pork belly arrived enclosed in a container - once the waiter lifted the cover of the container, the aroma of the applewood smoke escaped and lingered around the table for abit. The pork belly was tender and fatty and had a nice crunchy coating from the panko crumbs.
Next were the otoro, uni (sea urchin roe) and torigai (Japanese cockle) nigiri sushi. The rice was body temperature as it should be and each grain of rice was firm, well-seasoned and whole. The otoro was fatty and melt in your mouth. The uni was so fresh and delicate and the torigai was soft, slighty chewy and subtly sweet.
Next was the sashimi moriawase which was 18 slices of various sashimi - kingfish, king salmon,
tuna, scallop and blue eye cod. Each fish was so fresh and naturally sweet. The thickness of each slice of sashimi was perfect. Eddie explained that they are delivered their fish every day and it is used on that day itself and never kept overnight.
Next was the angus beef tataki with garlic chips. The beef was seared lightly on the outside and was meaty and tender. The garlic chips and raw onion added different layers of flavours and textures.
Next were mains - we ordered the grilled fish collar and the wagyu sirloin. The fish collar came with lightly grilled edamame and matcha salt. The fish was flakey and grilled to perfection. It was simply grilled to showcase the quality of the fish and the technique of the chef. It was perfect with the matcha salt.
The wagyu sirloin was fatty, luxurious and flavourful. Locally sourced, it was delicious when paired with the miso sauce and shimeji mushrooms. My personal preference is for the meat to be cooked medium rare whereas it was done medium to medium well, however, that is merely a personal preference.
For dessert we ordered the tasting plate - the presentation was delicate and pretty: matcha ice cream with red beans, berry cheesecake and mochi with a bean stuffing made to look deceivingly like a cherry. We also ordered the matcha pagoda which was matcha ice cream with red beans, a matcha macaron and a puff. I really liked the flavour of the matcha ice cream. The balance of bitter and sweet was just right for me. It was though, bordering on icy.
All in all it was a great night and I would return especially for their sushi and sashimi. We were seated at 7.25pm and finished dessert by 10.30pm.
I would like to thank Miss Kasumi for inviting me to dine with them and for their generous hospitality.

Care and thought surely have went into the decor, amongst them, a tiny bridge leading to a separate dining section, a sakura branch extending out from a corner of the ceiling, and wire clouds hanging above the sushi bar; resulting in a relaxing yet stunning dining experience.

The food was equally impressive - both in terms of presentation and execution. Beautifully plated yet remarkable in flavours and textures, even the simplest component excelled, such as the hearty and piquant broth of the tempura udon, and the perfect crunch of the potato korokke.

The sashimi, and even the tempura prawns, were exceptionally fresh and tasty. The scampi, duckfish and kingfish were incredibly tender and exquisite. The uni was one of the best we have tried - unbelievably creamy and rich. The tuna steak was interesting in its texture - firm yet tender, akin to a moist but brittle tuna sausage.

Not forgetting dessert of course. The black sesame ice cream was robust in flavour, and served in a waffle cone, it was a flawless combination of crisped and soft.

Overall, a very delightful and appetising meal, one which we are thankful to the hardworking team at Miss Kasumi for.

Miss Kasumi is a lovely looking restaurant, with a definite Japanese feel to it 😁 After sitting at our table we waited a while for the drinks menu to come, we ordered drinks they arrived, they were elegant in presentation and tasty 😋. We then sat for at least 15 minutes and had to ask for food menus! We decided to order entree’s first to get things started. The super friendly waiter wrote the order on his hand 🤚??? Not too sure that will work if super busy and big tables, we had 7 guests so his hand was full with entree order!

We were sharing the entree’s so they were all placed in the middle of the table, we each had our own soy sauce dish (they had gf soy for our coeliac guest which was great and we all chose to use that) but .... no plate/dish to have our entree’s from so there was a bit of fall out on the place mats!
Could not fault the food or presentation at all it was delicious 😋 just the patchy/slow service. Having been to Japan we know the Japanese people are very discrete and gentile , but they need to up the ante on the customer service or I can see some complaints about service appearing. Luckily we were in no hurry as there was public holiday the next day and it was a birthday celebration 🎉 We would definitely return and recommend 😁

Contemporary Japanese cuisine is often difficult to pull off due to the intricate complexities of Japanese cooking itself. However, Miss Kasumi has definitely proven that they are far from the norm and has definitely mastered the art of combining modern techniques with authentic Japanese flavours.

From the incredibly fresh sashimi that’s delivered daily and sliced right at the last possible second, to the well-balanced and carefully thought out fusions of different flavours and textures, it’s apparent that Miss Kasumi is an eatery that simply offers no compromises in taste or quality.

Spacious restaurant serving up scrumptious Japanese meals both authentic and traditional. They've got a separate lunch menu and we ordered the Aburi Salmon Don, the Unagi Don and the restaurant's special - the King Prawn Tempura Don. The Unagi was well made but my favourite was definitely the Aburi Salmon Don. They used warm sushi rice which went fantastic with the perfectly seared and seasoned salmon. So good! Aburi salmon is one of my staples in sushi bars so seeing it in bowl form, done well, makes me ridiculously happy for some reason that day!

The presentation of the Tempura Don is certainly spectacular with the gigantic battered prawn laid out vertically, 'cascading' into the bowl. The flavours remind me of my trips to Japan for some reason.

And lastly, we got the Matcha Pagoda for dessert. Prettily 'stacked up', the pagoda consisted of green tea ice cream, matcha cream puff and a tiny matcha macaroon on top. All components were very strong in matcha flavour which I really appreciated!

The endless quest for perfection ....

Thank you for the invite Addi and the team at Miss Kasumi.

What a stunning rich conversion from my former hunting ground for Tasmanian salmon, Tassal.

We started with a couple Cocktails; Eill & Sakura and not quite "Anicca" which Restaurant Manager Addi concocted for me .... Apricot & Lemon base .... they are refreshingly good, just a hint of Alcohol, not overpowering your tastebud.

Always good to leave it to the Chef - Omakase spirit ....
Then, we were recommended to go for the BIG dinner Menu - Kasumi Indulgence, okay, here we go .....

One of the finest 10/10 Sushi, Sashimi we've ever had, fresh fatty fish, great enticement for Tsukiji Market, Tokyo this Saturday. It comes with homemade Wasabi too.
Must not forget that 9/10 Tempura, lightly battered, freshly cooked on that memorable dipping sauce.

The $125.00 Kasumi Indulgence 10-Course Menu, lined up with extraordinary Japanese dishes to choose from, more than adequate to satisfy any fuzzy diner.

More to come on this review .... just too much and could be long to appreciate their quest for perfection.

LIT!: we had a 11 course banquet which costed $125 per head. The presentation of every meal was INSANE. The stand out dishes would definitely be the tataki (best I've tasted), the deluxe and hand roll sushi and the matcha dessert (the sorbet and small cake was include and was incredible). The staff were very cheerful and prompt to serve us.

NOT SO LIT: it is a bit pricey but you get a very wonderful experience!

Wandered in here one evening with my partner who was craving some Japanese.
Sat down and ordered the 10 course degustation which was just what we were after. The highlights of the night were:
- red miso soup
- Panko pork belly
- any of the sushi which was fresh and especially the sea urchin !!
- miso crusted lamb cutlet
- nori taco

Possible improvements:
- serve the real yellow wasabi to everyone, they need to taste the difference !!
- Simplify the drinks menu
- smaller servings of tempura
- ambience and lighting is very bright

All in all a pleasant experience and will recommend to friends and family

Miss Kasumi is a new addition to Kew that executes a wonderful representation of Japanese food. The fish is premium quality, and the nigiri and sashimi are a delight to eat; with the fresh fish almost melting in the mouth. Together with a cocktail, you’re in for a winner!

Other highlights include the shimeji suimono - a clean broth with wonderful depth and balance. Served with a fluffy mushroom rice that carried its own integrity, this course was simple yet refined.

To finish, dessert was matcha and coconut; a refreshing combination that again, displayed refinement and thought. Service is prompt and professional, while the interiors make for it to be a perfect place for a date night or a special birthday dinner!

Miss Kasumi has only been open for a few months but it’s already making its mark on Kew’s High Street. It’s a unique dining experience where you can opt for one of several banquet options (perfect for big groups and they have a full vegetarian banquet too) or you can choose from their a la carte menu. People around us were getting the banquet and the food kept rolling out. I was a little worried I wouldn’t fit it all in so we made our choices from the a la carte menu.
We started with Salmon Sashimi which was beautifully fresh. They have their own supplier, the fish is delivered fresh daily and the chef slices it as you order. You get a couple of different cuts of salmon which is a unique touch. We also tried the classic California Roll which was nice. The chicken karaage was also yum as always!
Two of the absolute standouts and in my opinion the must orders were:
1. The Panko Pork Belly - an individual bite size piece of pork which comes in its own jar contraption because it is infused with apple wood smoke. Absolutely delicious!
2. The Potato Korokke Taco: a crispy potato croquette served with a slice of nori taco which added the perfect crunch. Served with avocado and mayo, you’ll want seconds, I promise!
The Delux Tempura comes with two juicy prawns and an assortment of veggies. Crispy and not too oily like other Tempura dishes elsewhere, so we loved this dish too.
For mains we had the Teriyaki Chicken and the Wagyu Sirloin. The steak was tender and perfectly cooked and the sauce was delicious. The chicken thigh was also juicy and perfectly cooked and the teriyaki sauce was sweet and delicious. Call me Manu, but I wanted more of that delicious sauce on each plate.
Their dessert menu changes often. On the day we went they had a Matcha dessert which was served in a martini glass and came with Matcha Icecream, Coconut Icecream and a little piece of Matcha cheesecake. The coconut Icecream was divine! A lovely end to a beautiful meal.
Thank you so much for having us, Miss Kasumi. We will be back!

Melbourne now has a new contemporary Japanese fine dining restaurant to add to their list that is on par with the very few top Japanese restaurants I've been to in town. Nestled in the leafy suburb of Kew, Miss Kasumi impressed us during our dining experience with a full bar serving up creative and beautifully presented mocktails and cocktails. With such a spacious interior and moody lighting ambience as the sun set, we were wowed with each dish as they came out during our 10 course indulgence set menu.

Every girl would ask what is that beautiful drink with rose petals. She's called your name. A secret recipe which tasted like strawberry and Yakult to me. Also we had the Louis Garden cocktail which was gin with chrysanthemum flowers.

Appetizers seemed to come out endlessly but my favourite was the top grade Angus Beef tataki, flamed grilled crispy on the outside whilst still raw on the inside.

As massive sashimi fan, the highlight for me was when the premium assortment of sushi and sashimi came out. In the range was scallops, king fish, salmon toro and tuna toro ! The tuna toro just melted with soooo much omega 3 oil bursting within. The last time I had this was in Japan. The reason why the sushi and sashimi are made to such a top notched level is because they have a Michelin hatted sushi chef but also because seafood is freshly supplied everyday and not frozen and used over a few days.

By the time we reached mains, we were almost going to surrender. We could have done without the soup and mushroom rice beforehand. Though we kept going as you couldn't resist the wafu porterhouse, poached miso salmon and softshell crab wrapped in fried nori.To finish off the night I think we were given the best dessert combo. Matcha ice cream, coconut ice cream topped with a handcrafted mochi filled with red bean masked as a cherry on top! Bliss !

I would like to thank you Miss Kasumi and the staff for such a pleasant dining experience. It would certainly be a pleasure to come again for special occasions, celebrations, a date night or simply with your loved ones. You will not be disappointed.

I was invited to try the new menu at Miss Kasumi and what a treat it was. The food was excellent!

Everything was fresh, tasty and yummy. For entrees I had Angus Tataki which just melted in my mouth. OMGosh this was delicious. Then I tried some Sashimi Morawaki which was a selection of this finest fish. Wow this was just perfect and possibly the dish of the day!
But then I had Octopus Kaarage for the first time and this was just perfect! Lightly battered, crispy and soft. This is amazing!

Another highlight was the soft shelll crab bao bun,. The bun was so soft and the crab was lightly battered and crispy. Yummo

The twice cooked pork belly dish was soft and it just fell apart as I ate it. The sauce was another winner.

I had a foie grass chawan miushi dish which was sooo delicious. It was served in an egg custard. Phew woo hoo lol

For main I had Unagi on rice an it was THE biggest piece of Unagi that I’ve ever seen hahahaha and it was amazing

Then I tried some salmon which was superb! On a tasty salad of green leaves.

To finish I had some green tea ice cream which was creamy, and the perfect was the finish my meal.

This place is a must visit! If you like good Japanese food then this is for you. Thank you for having us.

Initial review

My partner and I were invited to try this restaurant last night.

The service was excellent. The food just as good! In fact the food was great, and we had a great night thank you.

We were fortunate enough to receive the 10 course banquet and we ate like kings lol

There were highlights a plenty, starting w the pork belly which I could have eaten all night!! It was perfect, crispy, tasty and crunchy!! It just melted ...

The rolled oysters in prosciutto were incredible. Iv’e never had them that way before.

The sushi was tasty and the mango dessert... well I could have skipped to that and been happy all night hahaha.

They served imported Kirin beer which was great too. Overall we had a fantastic night and I know we often say this but we will genuinely be back!

I was invited to dine at Miss Kasumi, so I popped in for lunch.
If you want to enjoy a delectable contemporary Japanese meal in a peaceful environment then you should definitely visit Miss Kasumi.
Located on High Street, Kew, Miss Kasumi is a spacious and eye-catching restaurant that is hard to miss.
From the traditional interior decor and chilled vibes to the exceptional table service from the lovely staff, it is hard to find anything to fault about this place.
This restaurant is generally quiet and calm on weekdays so it would be an ideal time to visit if you enjoy a relaxed eating experience.
A must-try dish is the Skytree Tempura Don. With a variety of textures and flavours, the prawn tempura was crispy and golden atop a bed of rice served with all the common sides (miso soup, edamame, garden salad and potato). This dish was very filling and deserves some praise for creative aeasthics.

We were invited to Miss Kasumi to enjoy their 10 course indulgence menu which was just that – pure indulgence. The 10-course indulgence menu was more of an experience, it’s to be enjoyed. Be sure that you get a seat near the sashimi chef as he expertly prepares the delicate sashimi.

The 10 course indulgence menu was very well presented and received (there is no shortage of choice or food). The 10 course menu cost $125 pp and for that you got a theatrical starter, a hot and cold appetiser, sushi and sashimi plates, tempura, soup with rice, main and dessert.

To start the night, we enjoyed some of Miss Kasumi’s cocktails – the Kasumi Slipper and Eill & Sakura. The restaurant could very well just be a cocktail bar with the high calibre of drink options and cocktails.

Our starter was a stacked glass dish. The top layer consisted of smoked pork belly which was delicious.

Next were the cold entrees. The Angus Beef Tatak is a must try and one of our favourites! Plenty of flavour and very well presented. Hot entrees were then served and delightfully presented again. We chose the Jidori  Karaage (fried chicken thigh) and the tempura oysters wrapped in prosciutto - which were interesting and different.

The sushi and sashimi plates with gold leaf were stunning. The tuna and charred salmon were our favourites but all the sashimi was amazing – this is enough to fill you up for the night on its own, plenty of variety and quality fish (including king fish, salmon, tuna and sea urchin).

The tempura prawn was up next and again, plenty of flavour and well prepared.  The miso soup was some of the best miso I’ve had! It came with a serve of rice as well.

Mains were up next. They were the right portion size as by this stage of the night we were getting pretty full! We enjoyed the sliced rear wagyu and the tuna fillet steak (Maguro Steak). The wagyu steak was juicy and tender.

Lastly we were served chefs choice of dessert which came out in a cocktail glass with coconut on the rim. It consisted of coconut and mango sorbet with a mini slice of mango cheesecake - which was divine.

It's certainly one of the best Japanese degustation experiences we’ve had in a while. We really couldn’t fault anything; the fish is as fresh as it gets! - prepared just before it’s served. The staff are also friendly and they really want you to have a great experience and feed. We will be sure to visit Miss Kasumi again.
(Leave plenty of time to enjoy your degustation though. We were there for just over 2 hours. Miss kasumi also has a great selection of menus, including an a la carte menu if you’re after some fresh sashimi and a quick bite).

I was lucky enough to be invited along to Miss Kasumi as my husbands plus one. This is a beautifully set out restaurant with a lovely decor. The food is just incredible, each dish was exquisitely presented and the attention to detail was out of this world. (The gold leaf on the sushi had the real wow factor). The freshness and the cut of the sashimi was faultless, each course was amazing. A feast for the eyes as much as the stomach! We had the 10 course banquet and not only did I leave feeling extremely satisfied, I felt full, which is something I don’t usually experience with Japanese cuisine. All I can say is this place is pure class, top notch in Japanese cuisine.

Once we were seated we had to wait a while until we had to ask for the menu ourselves, but after that the staff were very attentive. We both ordered the vegetarian set menu, which initially looked like too much food, but turned out to be just right. Each course was spectacular, both visually and the flavour. Recently came over to miss kasumi for a casual lunch after some golf. The meals we had were delicious. The tempura sky tree was even bigger than I expected~~ the crunch on the tempura was perfect, I really loved it. I will be coming back for another lunch and give the dinner menu a try in the future >w<

I have moved to kew for 4 years now and is extremely happy that such a nice restaurant opened in our area. I really can't think of an alternatively nice Japanese restaurant in the eastern suburbs. I am not sure why some other reviewers gave extremely low scores for this place, but I really want to give some justice to this place. The environment of this restaurant is gorgeous. I think anyone could really see the owners had put a lot of love into this place. It really gives me a feeling of 'it deserves better.' I truly hope that these nice restaurants can keep coming to Kew~ it will be awesome.

I have to say that I doubted whether to come here when I first saw the low score reviews but I am extremely happy that I decided to come myself and give it a try. I think if anyone is hanging on the cliff whether to come here due to the low scores, why not just come and give it a try, decide whether you enjoy it for yourself? :P
In the end, adventure brings excitement to life.
Why not take a little food adventure?

Just arrived in Aus this Monday and was invited to try this eatery out with friends for its gorgeous interior. Let’s start with some good points and then some negatives. The food was good but not excellent. Travelled to Japan once with my family so get knowing Japanese food a little bit. The biggest sell point of JP food should be the fresh n obviously you can give this one a point for its freshness. The service was ok but not very professional. If they could take more trainings that would be a big difference. We ordered 3 premium sets plus some A la carter. We’ve never expected so many dishes in set menu coz from my knowledge Japanese food always sell for its quality not quantity. We were pretty full when walked out even a little bit over, no disappointment. One thing we dislike this eatery is its bathrooms. Come on how does it just have two bathrooms for nearly 100 guests? The staff was friendly but not very attentive so we had to asking for water over and over.

Overall, this place worths a try but not recommend to go there to spend your weekends especially during peak hours, crowded and less attentive service.

I went there with few friends, it looks like this place has not enough waiters/waitress on weekday nights. Sometimes we were waiting for a dish for a long time, but sometimes food come so fast even the previous plate still on the table.
The price of banquet are more acceptable than foods on A la cart menu. So we ordered set instead of a la cart. Sashimi was so fresh and wagyu beef steak is my favorite dish.

Great dining experience. The atmosphere was great and the dish was so well presented. Sashimi was really fresh and the dessert plus chuwamushi was very delicate and perfect balance of all the flavours. However, for the dessert I think they should have given us some small folks, COULD NOT pick up anything with that clumsy spoon..

Such an impressive and unexpected find. I ordered the classic and my wife ordered the vegetarian set. We definitely didn't leave hungry. Only recommendations is that there is a lot of dishes with Enoki mushrooms in the vegetarian set. I look forward to trying lunch and the a la carte.

I've been here several times now and the food was great and the service was excellent as well.  The staff here are really nice, patient and always have a smile on their face. I tried Kasumi's new special Business set (Image 3) and made a comparison with their Premium and Indulgence sets. I was in a hurry and only had an hour but overall it was a good experience. If you're in a hurry you can try the Business set and if not, try the other two sets, won't let you down.

It was delicious, recommend the scampi a la cart sushi, don't recommend the chawan mushi. Everything else was good. Tried the indulgence. Quaint but friendly service, good people. Lunch is also nice here.

We tried out the dinner on a weekday night.
Restaurant decoration is nice, setting seems to aim for high end market but it's let down by the not so professional service. Waiters are not quite attentive.

Food is fine, but offer degustation menu of price $85 & $105 only. Portion is small, not quite satisfied after the meal.

It probably better if there's al la carte menu with more varieties, it gives customers more reasons to come back next round.

We had a delightful dinner here at miss kasumi on a casual Tuesday night and service was so attentive. We order four indulgence courses and the best was wafu porterhouse , sashimi entree,  and the home made assorted desserts, the mini matcha macaron is the highlight of the dessert , you must try that  ! Warm sake was just the perfect touch to our night.

As a sushi lover, I have to say this eatery is perfect and should be one of the best restaurants in Melbourne that serves Japanese food. The environment is amazing n it's the first place I can see where natural plants planted inside he house. The other part which impressed us most is the "re-order" policy. Usually I can't be fed up by Japanese food unless I pay a lot and others in Melbourne only have like 5 or 6 dishes in one set while this one have 10 dishes n after we finish them all, I felt great full with a main "re-order". Although I felt the price is a little bit over our budget, but still a good place to go. What I paid for worth it so will come back again.

Environment is amazing and my baby girl loves the bridge so much!!
Food is perfect as well although only set menu provided. Pricey but worth it. Now they not only do a la carte menu for sushi and sashimi, but also hot and cold dishes, which tastes so good. We ordered indulgence Set and got the last blue fin tuna toro and it melt in my mouth. Service is good but not perfect.
One of the best Japanese restaurants in Mel and highly recommended.

Ok so this restaurant has just opened and is definitely still to iron out the kinks. Only the banquet was available i.e. no à la carte and it was pricey. Our wait staff were most apologetic and did the best they could with chaos ensuing in the kitchen. They kept up the green tea and drinks and entertained my two kids whilst we waited for the food. When it arrived  the food was good without being excellent, there were definite attempts to do something different to your standard Japanese fare of sashimi and tempura....the apple-wood smoked pork belly was a stand out. Give them a few weeks to get their kitchen humming and their service right and it will be a good eatery....lets hope it can go above and beyond and become a great eatery.
