The food is so tasty and the food comes out quickly. Its a great place to bring family and have many choices on their menu.
I recommend number 22 or the combo wrap.
Always a great place to eat. Number 22 is our favorite and we always order extra bread and garlic. Great vibes and great food that tastes authentic and traditional. Staff are friendly and service is great.
Can't go wrong with their kebabs, chicken curry, saffron rice and hot naans. Great food, good service and great prices! Have been there twice already, and will be back there in a couple of weeks!
Delicious variety of skewers, excellent portion sizes, friendly services. The two of us had the Family Pack and we were not disappointed - selection of sauces including hummus which was spot on. The breads were fresh, rice was filling and all meat was perfectly charcoaled and the flavours were great. Will bring the rest of the family next time!
very good afghan food, never ever disappoints. took my in-laws who have lived in the gulf got almost 50 years and they too loved the kebabs. good portions and tasty food. do try the goat curry that is well cooked amdnthey kebab platter.
Great food. Very friendly, attentive service. Decent pricing. Can't ask for much more. The only thing was slightly dry chicken in our biryani, but didn't ruin the experience for us. Well worth it, and we will be coming back.
Quick service, friendly & helpfully staff and yummy food.
Never had a complaint regarding the food.
Love the seekh kebabs & the chicken biryani.
The roti is nice but I am a rice person.
The sides offered with the dish are yummy - the salad, yogurt & hummus..
All in all a nice family restaurant with yummy food.
Our friends took us out for kebab to cure our comfort food cravings from back home. This place is a hit!
Soft succulent kebabs which are so flavourful and not dipped deep in oil. Everything is tasty. I loved the soft tandoori rotis and chicken curry. The rice with raisins are super hit!
100% calls for a repeat.
1 star less only for the ambience but I think I am being too strict ( but who cares am not masterchef lol)

What's the most happiest thing other than eating some food from the Indian subcontinent for a desi guy who is away from home? I say, nothing 😂
This place was the first desi restaurant we tried in Adelaide and it amazed us with he authentic, hot and spicy food! We ordered all the kebabs on the menu and some pita breads and ended it up with the Turkish teas. We loved them all! 😍

Awesome place!! Delicious food.. authentic kebab.. Biriyani is too spicy.. it'll be better if they tone down on the spices.. the naan and other masalas are great..
This is my first time eating Afghani food and it was really really nice. My favourite was the lamb tikka which had that little bit extra spice. Their version of naan bread was just as nice. I would definitely go again
Poppie loves the Ghan kebab house. Delicious charcoal meats at their Afghani finest. Poppies favourite dish is definitely the Manto dumplings. He can't get enough of them. However Poppie must say that they are a tad pricey at $20 for 10 dumplings. The atmosphere here is also cool and unique with a large hills of Afghanistan mural on an entire wall. Poppie definitely recommends the Ghan kebab house for an eat 👍
Beautiful food and service everytime. I've been coming here for years, when it was in its old location and had one man working over the coals! The food quality has not wavered In the slightest, consistently good. The staff are friendly, the food comes out fresh and quick! My favorite things on the menu are the lamb skewers and the charcoal grilled whole chicken accompanied perfectly by super fluffy rice! Winner winner.
I have been coming to the Ghan for 5 years and I have always loved the service and amazing tasting food. The staff are extremely friendly and I now know them very well. I have never been let down by this place.
The Afghan Chalow is my go to meal as well and the fantastic manto dumpings. The meat is soft and has a beautiful taste. The rice is great. Food comes out extremely fast and waiters/waitress's are very attentive to ensuring you have everything, have enough water and to clear away finished plates.
Although over the years the price has increased I will always go back here because of the amazing experiences I have always had.
Awewome dinner! For the price you cant beat it. Simple and satisfying to the max. The only thing i can fault is there should be more salad with it. Im a gym guy and whats better than meat n rice! Yum
This place is the goods when it comes to Afghan food. Although it's quite a distance from my house, it's one of the go-to spots for take out. The staff are lovely and it is always busy. I recommend the Afghan chalaw, manto, qabuli palaw and sweet dogh drink. There is also a good selection of crunchy and sweet baklava. The portions are seriously huge for the price, meat is exceptionally tender and many of the meals are accompanied with salad and flat bread. It is quite heavy food so if you are down with that, head here.
I love this place! Usually get takeaway and call in advance. Whdn you arrive you are greeted by very friendly staff. Have never had to wait, the food is always ready to go which is great. The kebabs are full of flavour and cooked really well. Love the accompaniments to the dish, the bread and salad are tasty.
We went this Friday and it was packed. So packed in fact that as soon as a table was cleared new people arrived. With very good reason, the food is excellent, especially the lamb dumplings, the service very good and the prices incredible. Just $24 per head for three courses, with more than enough for everyone. On the outside it looks like a takeaway, and inside the decor is basic but very clean. Clearly a favourite with the local Afghan community (those like us, of European descent, were very much in the minority). No alcohol, but the cardamom tea makes up for it. A hidden gem.
Was invited by my parents to have dinner at this place. It's definitely not our first time here but it has been a while. We decided to order the chicken minced kebabs and the chicken briyani. First of all I would like to mention the bread that they serve, it is both crispy and fluffy. It is the best bread I have ever had! The kebabs were great as usual but the briyani dish was a first for us. The dish was delicious for the first few bites but then salt starts catching up you, it was a bit overwhelming. The only other criticism I would have was the chicken in the briyani was a bit dry.
The whole atmosphere of the place was great, the staff were lovely and attentive. Would come back!
Still sooooo good. The dumplings are still tasty and the mixed kebab is still the way to go - amazing. Loads of fluffy bread, a choice of sauces and tender, charcoaled meat. Delish! Really fast too and friendly service.
Tonight was my first time trying Afghan food. I have never eaten Afghan food before and I don’t have much experience with middle eastern foods at all. Middle eastern food isn’t mainstream like Italian or Chinese here in Adelaide so it’s hard to know where to go if you don’t have the right recommendations. You don’t want to try something new to have a negative experience and never eat it again.
a little inconsistent but for the most part, great food and great service
We've eaten at this restaurant several times now and each time I forget how good it is, but remember it is worth driving from the other side of town to visit.
This time we came with the in-laws, who demolished the flattened out, tender and juicy, lightly spiced half charcoal chicken down to the bare bones before I could go back for seconds! Next time we are ordering one each. The kebabs are all delicious, with some spicier than others, and the bread and rice is so fresh and perfectly cooked it melts in the mouth. Everything comes with two dipping sauces (a red spicier one and yoghurty one) and some salad. Plates are around $15 including rice, bread etc.
There are lots of bottled juices or fruit flavoured drinks to choose from in the self serve fridge or a hot tea. The icecream and drinks bar is OK but I thought the icecream wasn't great for the price and didn't try the drinks so maybe they are better. The staff are friendly and attentive despite the business and popularity of this attractive place. Order more than you think you want because you'll vacuum up the food, and can always take the left-overs (ha!) home.
We (my whole family! who are German/Australian) all love this place and have been eating here since it was just a wee establishment before they moved next door into larger premises and we are still coming here! Yes, I also believe this is the Uberist Afghan food in Adelaide! The service is fantastic, they are so friendly and cannot do enough for you! You never have to wait long for your food even if you are a large group, which we were last week. Everything is delicious, prices are medium and generally a good feed if you are out and about! Good hangover food too! Always returning!
One of our favourite Afghan restaurants is The Ghan Kebab House at 364 Prospect Road, Kilburn. We have been dining here since the days of when it was a small old take away shop. It has now blossomed to a large restaurant with real Afghan charm in its decor. We have been here countless times and have never been disappointed with the quality of food.
Best afghan kebab in Adelaide. Their red spicy sauce is so yummy with their kebabs. Kebabs are always tender and juicy. Bread is always fresh and fluffy. Food made with love. Bit pricey though and very busy but for a good reason. You have to try the mantos dumplings too.
Happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there (for yesterday)! This year we opt to try The Ghan Kebab House, and it sure was a good choice. This restaurant is one popular place, the line to order was long enough that some had to wait outside. Luckily i booked beforehand, so didn't have to wait in the cold. The environment inside felt quite nice as there were posters and paintings which really brightened the place up. The serving time was quite fast, we only waited for 15 minutes tops, and everything was out. Each dish came with two types of sauces, and a plate or two of salad which was good because everything else was just meat.
We all started with the dumplings, and it sure tasted very different to all the other dumplings i had. Inside, there were a mixture of meat and chickpeas, which was nice and soft. The sauce on top had a sweet and sour taste to it, but it went well with the meat.
Moving onto the kebabs and bread, the kebabs were already cut into pieces so it was easy to share between all of us. The bread was really nice when it was hot, and you could put anything on it and it'll taste good, however the bread did get hard quite quickly, so a note for next time, eat the bread first!
After eating all that, we figured that we didn't order enough, so we went up again and added a chicken and lamb curry. This wasn't as special as the other dishes, as they just taste like the ones we make at home. Not saying its bad, it tasted really good in fact, but was expecting something different.
And guess what, we were not done, went up the third time to order a whole charcoal chicken (the staff probably thought we were pigs!). At first we were hesitant in ordering this as we thought the meat would be really dry, but after having their kebabs, we know this place is definitely living up to its high ratings. The chicken sure didn't disappoint, although it was probably the skinniest chicken ever, but the taste of it was brilliant.
To finish it off, we ordered two types of desserts, Baklava and Ras Malai. Honestly, i am not a big fan of their desserts, or i'm not use to it. The baklava was pretty much a sugar filled biscuit dipped in honey, and the ras malai... i don't even know how to describe this. When i put it into my mouth, it felt like a wet tissue with a bit of mint taste.
Overall the Ghan Kebab house is a great place to eat if you're a meatlover! Majority of their menu is quite similar (either kebabs, chicken, or curry), so its safe to say everything should taste pretty good, but from my experience, its best to stay away from the dessert menu (unless you really want to try).
This occasion was no exception.
You walk in throught the automatic sliding doors and the first thing that hits you is the huge raised seating area by the window. Remember when it was all the rage to go to Japanaese restaurants and pretend that sitting in those God Awful pits was really comfy and oh so much fun? Well this big bed of a place actually looks like it really might be fun. The thing is covered in carpet and cushions and you kneel on it and eat your food and it sort of looks kind of exotic and cool.
The rest of the restaurant is decorated with orange and black and chandeliers hang from the ceiling and there's flowers and wall hangings and big photographic murals and it's a bit charming and sort of sweet.
The waiting staff are completely delightful and fussed over us, several times asking us if we'd be more comfortable at another table and looking after us in general.
The place was stuffed full of groups in varying sizes ranging from 2 (us) to large parties of several generations of family. Bustling, warm and friendly.
The menu is a big glossy picturebook so you know what you're getting.
Worth noting at the outset are the Family Packs. Things like the Charcoal Chicken RIce pack: 3 whole chickens, rice, flat breads, salad, sauce and a bottle of soft drink. Feeds 8 people for $89.
They do a 16 skewers of mixed kebab with all the trimmings for $115.
Who are these people offering to stuff 8 people full of food for 14 bucks a head? This just seems overly generous to me!
They do lamb. chicken and minced meat kebabs, charcoal chicken (split open and flattened) Kebab rolls, curries and dumplings.
We orderd half a chicken and rice and a mixed kebab. When they arrived with bread and salad and sauces they covered the talble - hence the staff asking us if we'd like to move to a bigger one.
Everything was delicious and moist and spicy. Special points for the flat breads - fluffy and light with tasty charcoally bits on them.
The whole thing cost us about $40 for more food than we could eat and it was an absolute treat.
Recommended to all and sundry without any reservation whatsoever. They're open til late seven days a week so there's no excuse.
First impressions can be deceiving. It looks like a takeaway shop with tables not that appealing.
Upon arrival the waiter took us to our table in the large dining area. The decor was plain but the entire area was very clean. The menu had a takeaway feel about it with the menu items numbered (made ordering easy).
The waiting staff were extremely courteous and quite charming.
The clientele were a mixture of cultures but really was noticeable was the number of people that I suspected were Afghan origin (I always find this appealing).
Now to the food, it was great. We started with a simple chicken curry with rice, the chicken was very tender and not over powered by the curry flavour. We had a mixed mixed Kabab plate (tikka lamb, chicken tikka and shami kufta) which come with dipping sauces, bread and a small salad. All the items were very tasty especially the shami kufta. The bread was very light and really enhanced the Kabab meats. The salads provided were too small, next time I would look to upsize these as they were quite good.
Also ordered a charcoal chicken, this to me was the absolute best part if the meal (ordered a take away one after as I wanted more) the chicken was prepared by cutting down the back to enable it to be lain flat. It has flavoured and cooked to perfection. We finished the meal with the one of each if the three deserts. The baklava was ok, there was a pastry type dish (Jelabi) that was so sweet. My favourite was a milky dish (Ras Malai) with an unique flavour.
Must also add that the black tea with cardamon was a great end to the meal.
I look forward to returning very soon to have some of the other menu items and a charcoal chicken.
Loved the food. Delicious bread fresh out of the oven and the meat kebabs were tender and juicy. Will definitely be visiting again to calm my kebab cravings soon :)
Delicious Kebab rolls! Added to my dinner calendar, twice a week! Classy ambience. No other restaurant in the area comes close. Authentic food.
Good Food.. Anytime you feel like having a good hearty meal. This is the place. delicious every time.
Excellent Kebab House. Out of all the kebab houses to choose from in Adelaide, I always come back to this restaurant. I always get my takeaway from here.
Onto the food, I always choose Mashawyat Rice for me and my family. It feeds for 4 people, so it's plenty for us. It comes with 9 skewers of kebabs with lots of rice and 2 breads with a drink.
I must say the kebabs are succulent and juicy. And the rice is extremely delicious, I just eat the rice by itself, that's how delicious it is. Overall the food is not too heavy and just satisfies your palette. So that's a good feeling as well after you have eaten here. The condiments you get from this meal are yum as well which are is the garlic dressing and tomato.
So I highly recommend buying from thus restaurant. The staff is extremely friendly and always willing to help you. Hospitality is top notch and a huge restaurant as well so plenty of seats available. And only 10-15 mins of waiting if you do takeaway.
Loved it!!!! We got takeway but while we sat and waited we observed others. They were very friendly as we ordered and as we sat and watched the foods pass by to the tables around us we were already sussing out what we were going to order next time. Once we got home to devour our food we were not disappointed it was amazing, the flavours of the charcoal chicken were unreal and the rice cooked perfectly cooked, breads, dipping sauces & gobi masala all so delicious and authentic in taste. Will most definitely be seeing us more frequently!!
Meat the way it should be cooked. Tasty is all I can say!
Excellent. Friendly service, relaxing surrounds, awesome food. We dined in - had a large mixed platter, got a 1.25L softie thrown in but we were more interested in the tea with cardamom. Very nice all round!
Wow! This is why we keep coming back! For those who enjoy the simple things in life - Look no further than the Ghan Kebab House.
Great food, cooked beautifully, served quickly and priced well.
We always get the mixed Kebabs with Rice - with the Lamb Kebabs being our favourite by far.
The rice is unbelievable, packed full of flavour and have these tasty red currants that seem to explode in your mouth when you bite into them, emitting a sweet yet sour flavour kick. The red salsa (served with the Kebabs & Rice) is also worth a mention, packing a fresh and zesty lift to your meal.
They've recently updated the decor, so now the surroundings match the food being served- Simple yet traditional.
10/10
The best. Love it....the meat, the bread, the tea......absolutely faultless
Wow! Delicious! Perfectly spiced and bread was wonderful!
A little treasure. I have been to this place a few times now, and every time, it has never disappoint. It is very affordable, the meals are delicious and the service warm and friendly.
It is a good little hangout if you appreciate the simple things in life.
Tasty lamb kebabs. Came here based on the reviews, the meat was good, the lamb the best! The chicken was nice, standard kebab chicken, but the lamb really stood out, it was well marinated and was very tender and not chewy. My friend and I shared a plate of 3 chicken kebabs and 3 lamb kebabs (we then ordered another plate of 3 lamb kebabs because it was so good), the side salad was nice and refreshing, just lettuce, cabbage, cues, and some tomato. I liked the tzatziki and the salsa sauce and the flat turkish bread came out hot. I also ordered 2 dumplings for myself, they were nice with minced lamb inside, but nothing special. And I also had the okra curry, this was very tasty, if you like okra, you'll love this, very good for winter with big chunks of potato and a good serving of okra in a tomato and olive oil based sauce.
In all, a very tasty and filling experience, I say skip the chicken kebabs and just order lots of lamb as that seems to be their specialty. The staff were very nice and friendly and helped us choose from the menu. A great experience.
Very tasty and affordable will be back!
Great atmosphere greets you as you escape from the wintery cold into the charcoal fumes of the Ghan Kebab House. Raised floor seating for 6 or so Afghan diners. Retro tables and chairs for us. Warm service with a smile. Happy to explain the Kebab options, grills and curries on the menu. Service is smooth though sometimes a language barrier might deal you a surprise dish!! All in good fun. The kebab Chalaw was fantastic; full of smokey charcoal flavour (as was my jacket after dinner...sitting so close to the grill!). Afhgans are famous for their long grain rice dishes...and Ghan Kebab House is right on the nail...and just wait till you rip into the freshly baked flat bread that lands on your table...other dish was the Lamb Curry..a genuine and honest curry ful of flavour (though a little heavy on the oil)
ALL IN ALL A BIG 110% YUMMY FACTOR. We'll be back to try more of the menu...
I'm not really sure how anyone could dislike this place. Those negative reviewers must have been really really unlucky! Took my Asian parents here for a weekend lunch and they are probably the toughest food critics ever. Food must be tasty, healthy and cheap. This place delivers on all three. Even my dad who is rarely satisfied with anything other than the traditional bowl of Viet beef noodle, had to begrudgingly admit that it was good food. For me it's the simple things which make this place really worth visiting - the lovely fragrant cardamom tea, the warm coal pit over which the meat is grilled - so good especially in the currently cold weather. Unpretentious good food tried and tested by generations. GO!
Great food with different flavours .good value.
Cheap, fresh and tasty.. Try the charcoal Chicken. The best I have ever tasted. The Chicken Kebabs are sensational, too
Massive and tasty kebabs! Only for $7-$10 which is really cheap. Will definitely return
That's one big mofo kebab. Went in here from the recommendation of my fellow urbanspoon reviewers. Specialises in Kebab (open and in a roll) and is very tasty. Charcoal cooked and superbly marinated meats. I have had the Lamb Mince and Lamb Kebabs now and would recommend the Lamb Kebab as the best I’ve had in Adelaide. It might even taste better with a couple of cheeky ales under the belt....
Would recommend.
Love this place. This and lawash bakery are the best afgan food shops in adelaide. Anyone leaving bad reviews have NO idea! I've been coming since they opened and the food got better and better over time.
Nice little place for a cheap meal/kebab, service was good, food was tasty. Just bring some gum for the garlic breath!
The Best kebab in Australia!!!!!
Because everything is very fresh here!!!
Don't like it. Freakin LOVE it!
Went there last night not knowing what to expect, walked in..had a look and thought..oh god, this place doesn't look good at all,but soon the smell of the food took over.it might not be the fanciest but the food was definitely the best,in fact I'm going there again tonight with some friends.I definitely recommend the shami kebabs and the bread...yumm
Best Kebab in Town - No doubt. I'm sorry Aussie S and Lilly had bad experiences, but S(tuff) happens. I live around the corner too, and I will happily be returning for the kebabs, drunk and sober! I've tasted kebabs allover the world, and these are as good as anywhere. They are also dead cheap (three long kebabs in pita with salad and sauces for 9 bucks!) Lately we've been going for the not so environmentally sound poly-s packs which also come with rice (for $14). In my opinion the Shami (lamb) kebab is the pick, but my daughter prefers the chicken kebab (done in a tika style). We haven't ventured across the rest of the menu except that I tried the Jilabi, which was suitably sweet and hit the spot. It's definitely worth a stroll across Regency Road.
Oh my! This place is 100% authentic. Cab drivers sitting crossed legged on a raised rug eating with their hands. The kebabs are in-freaking-believable. Meat so tender and juicy cooked over open charcoal fire. Medium price but worth every cent. Cheery, if somewhat hard to understand service. Clean but above all, so so tasty Afghani cuisine.
My family has been here many times. The staff are very friendly and helpful on what to order if you have not been before. Good serves. Reasonably priced. Food is DELICIOUS and super tasty!! We have been to many similar restaurants, and we keep coming back here. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed. For me, it is a 40-minute drive and well worth the drive
Generous portion size. Quality of food and service was really good, impressive!
Probably most famous Kebab house in Adelaide. The kebabs are sort of juicy and tasty. Waiters and staffs are okay. Some of them are not that friendly. They are quick in service though. They have wide range of kebabs, nan and rice. I like their Bolani Bread. They have catering service also.
I always have a very nice meal here. The service is friendly & prompt. Good value for money
Really delicious food that is cooked fresh (you can just tell). The lamb dumplings were fantastic, the lamb shoulder was so soft, and the chicken kebab was the most tender chicken I have ever eaten in a restaurant before! The flatbread is super light and thin too. The tea and yoghurt drink were also good. I was really happy with the food here and am going to bring more family and friends next time. A gem of a place!
Always happy to eat here. Friendly staff, affordable meals, generous serves, fast service and delicious food. Dine in, take away or have it delivered, it will always be amazing.
The food was delicious and so was the service . Can’t wait to see yaa guys soon
