The best lunch experience we have ever had. What an awesome little brand you have Shane. The food was second to none and I think by the amount of wine we consumed it must have been very good too. If you are down the coast drop in and see Shane and just let him feed you, it makes for a very relaxing and enjoyable long lunch. Thanks again for making my birthday the best, all 10 of us haven't stopped talking about it since.

4 Port Fairy mums & 5 girls who travelled together for 5-6 years all over Vic & SA with the Port Fairy Pacers Basketball Squad have decided to get together every 6-10 weeks taking it in turn to choose as to where we meet & on Sunday the choice was Basalt Winery & we weren't disappointed. Our booking was at 11:30 so some had the big breakfasts & others had lunch but we ALL had the yummo deserts & everyone thoroughly enjoyed our meals, thanks Shane & girls for making our 2nd get together so enjoyable & the food was sooooo good & by the way, the hot chocolate was sensational.

Dropped in on our way back from Warrnambool to our weekender in Port Fairy after recommendation from a local. A quirky, relaxing and very welcoming cellar door...just wish we had stumbled on it earlier in the day to stay longer and enjoy more of the brilliant wines, cocktails and fabulous food. Made a dent though and bought a sensational Reisling....yes I said Reisling a Shiraz and Proseco....loved loved loved

Sensational! Shane is not only a great bloke but one hell of a winemaker. Tapa's were fantastic. Enjoying a lovely bottle of pinot to finish off a great weekend away to port fairy.

This hidden gem needs more attention!!?? What stunning food and wine..... oh my F#$%ing goodness. We almost drove right past, glad we didn't. 90 plus point wines and fine dining style food at very reasonable price.
Too good to be true.

Atmosphere and staff: the venue itself holds a lot of charm and personality. Located on a beautiful block of land close to the ocean. The staff are full of charisma and will go above and beyond to give you a great experience.

Food: very nice food and wine pairing available. The meals tasted fresh and flavoursome. The duck goes very well with the pomegranate and lentils it’s served on.

We chose to combine wine tasting with lunch at Basalt Wines. We had phoned ahead and booked a table for lunch. The wine tasting took place in the cellar door area. It was unhurried and we tasted 6 wines on the tasting list which I believe pretty well covered their range. We particularly enjoyed the Riesling, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. The price of the tasting was offset against our purchases. We had lunch outside next to the vines. It was a lovely setting despite the cool temperatures. The tasting plate menu was very good - it's no longer surprising to us that remote restaurants in regional Australia can produce outstanding cuisine. We enjoyed 5 plates, all well presented and delicious. I highly recommend this location for a great wine tasting and dining experience.

Had a pleasant afternoon at this very unique venue. Great spot to relax on a sunny day. The tapas food was amazing and tasty. A bit on the pricey side but it is a unique experience. The homegrown wine was superb. Could not fault the service apart from the waitress using a cleaning spray on the adjoining table which left us inhaling the odour and we also had to cover our glasses of fine wine as not the ingest the spray. Would highly recommend a visit will guarantee you will leave with one or more bottles of the winery’s fine wine on offer.

On the road between Warrnambool and Port Fairy near the volcano at Tower Hill is the most delicious surprise. Tucked neatly down the end of a driveway and surrounded by vineyard, farms and tapering hills you will find the Basalt cafe and wine bar. Housed in what was once a winery shed, this is a surprisingly cosy cafe with a simple but impressive menu.

A massive problem with zomato is people can drop a low rating without explaining why. At the time of writing this, the restaurant has a 2.4, despite having good written reviews. Don't just look at the number; have a look at what people have said.

The short of it: Expensive, but worth it. Good food, good wine, fantastic owner.

We ordered a lot during our visit. Shakshuka, baked beans, and an open steak sandwich for lunch. Dessert was two apple and rhubarb pies and a meringue stack. There was lots of wine involved.

It's a small and rustic place, but offers a lot. Food has a bit of a wait (depending on what you order), so don't expect to rush in and rush out. Take your time. Sit down and relax. Try different wines.
I would recommend this place to any wine lover passing through the area n

Located along the coast between Warrnambool and Port Fairy. Table service wine tastings offered. Delicious selection of local produce platters to enjoy along with wines by the glass/ bottle. Indoor, outdoor undercover and lawn seating available. Grass area for the children to run around and views of the vines. Popular spot, very relaxed and enjoyable.

Great little winery just off the A1 enroute to Port Fairy, as you wind down the Great Ocean Road journey from Warrnambool. Awesome selections of wines and the cheese board is to die for. The best part is they serve up Cuban cigars, the highlight of any wine pairing experience, the good red, fresh cheese and a fine stogie. Wine sommelier and owner both were very friendly and hospitable. Highly recommended!

Lovely, popped in for a quick tasting ($15pp which is fine as I don’t feel guilty if I don’t feel like buying anything) and met the beautiful dog! The sparkling and Riesling were especially good. If I had a bit more time, I would’ve definitely loved a glass of Riesling in their gorgeous outdoor area overlooking the vineyard.
