Review Umaya Japanese - Kirrawee

May 2022 - tried the wagyu ramen and it wasn't good. This is meant to be a chef recommended dish and the noodles were again overcooked making it way too soft. The supposed mb7 wagyu was overcooked, tough and clumped together (check photos). Also our order of 1 serve salmon nigiri and 1 wagyu ramen took over 30mins to serve. Sorry but I cannot recommend coming here and personally won't be coming back here again after this experience. We finally got the chance to eat here after being turned around multiple times because we came too close to closing time. We got the assorted nigiri which was good but on the pricey side for standard nigiris options. The nigimiso ramen was different. Flavoursome and generous with the roast pork and spring onions but they overcooked noodles. Chicken katsu curry rice was ok, nothing stood out in this dish. Overall it was an ok experience.

Reccomended! Oishii! I'm a bit shocked to read all of the bad reviews because I have been here several times and it has always been DELICIOUS with authentic Japanese food and flavours. Recommend trying the Japanese Curry and the Katsu Don. Go into the restaurant and give it a try, beware that it can be cold so wear warm clothes as it's partially outdoors in that shopping centre at Kirawee.

Really authentic tasting Japanese. The food here was pretty good and the staff pleasant too. The venue itself was clean. We tried the takoyaki (good), the adashi tofu (ok), the karaage chicken (great), crispy chicken roll (good) and tempura vegetables (delicious).

This wagyu beef ramen was covered in oil it seems to have melted off it in pic, then add the liquid separate but that amount of oil was like half a cup of cholesterol so bad. Could not imagine how this would make me feel what a complete waste of a meal on Uber eats.. very unhealthy

We went to the restaurant yesterday & based on the menu online it was quite misleading! We went because we saw “44. WAGYU BEEF SUKIYAKI HOT POT 32.80 特選和牛すき焼き鍋 Hot pot serves in sukiyaki sauce with Chinese cabbage, tofu, grade9+ Wagyu beef and udon noodle” on the menu! And when we arrived after a long journey there, they said it’s no longer available! Well take it off the menu!!! So frustrating when you rely on the menu online and it’s incorrect! Yes the food was delicious & the service was average but the fact that the menu is not up to date is a turn off to all customers including myself! I do love the udon and sashimi here in this restaurant though, definitely recommended!

Very tasty. Karage don buri, and wagyu don buri bowls were both good. We also enjoyed the avacado rolls and roasted pork ramen.

The true test of a business is customer service when things don’t necessarily go to plan, and in this regard, Umaya deserves top marks. I had a minor issue with charging the bill and was able to reach the owner to discuss, who was completely understanding, explained what had happened and offered a solution for a great outcome. He even personally made our next booking. So many owners would have just dismissed my concern which would have resulted in a lost customer, but in this case because of the way it was handled we will keeping coming back, tell everyone and I felt compelled to come and write a 5 star review. In addition, the food is excellent (which is why we come here regularly) and there is a play area for kids right where we can sit on a sort of indoor/outdoor arrangement, so we are able to eat dinner while the kids play making it a great family restaurant. What was an excellent restaurant became even better with the way the owner handled things with my recent experience so I would definitely recommend to anyone. Well done Umaya.

Very disappointing and far below average quality.. ordered salmon avocado and spicy chicken sushi one each, unfortunately avocado sushi barely has avocado inside.. very soggy chicken one ended up with throwing them to bin at half bite. most of all, old Asian woman’s arrogance when greeting customer and order taking, and rude face (if you are not mute, then use mouth to answer customer’s question rather than to nod or shake) toward my question around american express card was not acceptable at all. Very inconvenient experience at ‘convenient Sushi takeaway’ kiosk. Not going there anyway due to poor quality of food…though.

Ordered via delivery app last week. The food was still nice and warm on arrival. The takoyaki was delicious. The agedashi was also tasty, but the outside was soggy, as it was not eaten immediately. The tempura was ok, the batter was bland without the dipping sauce. The squid tentacles were perfectly seasoned, better than a lot of the yum cha squid tentacles. The soft shell crab was a bit bland without dipping sauce. The sushi and sashimi tasted fresh.

The flavours were pretty good overall, though some dishes relied on the dipping sauce. The meal worked out to be a bit pricey, but the quality was pretty good.

The food is ok but expensive and a limited menu for a Japanese restaurant. They will not cater for special requirements. I couldn’t order a sushi roll without cucumber which I found bizarre. Great location but if you’re a foodie avoid disappointment and head across the road to the other Japanese restaurant.

The South Village has a few good options, and this Japanese is a good choice for a good sushi experience. The indoor/outdoor seating is setup well for when you want your sushi/sashimi fix with a pram. :-) we had the Sushi/Sashimi combo and wagyu beef. Both well presented and tasty.
Snapshots Of Food
Umaya is located in South Village, a place to connect the Kirrawee community. Though we're not from Kirrawee, we couldn't help noticing the many apartments being developed, exciting announcements of fresh food, health and fitness, hair and beauty, food and drink options. The bright colours from advertisements got our attention because we couldn't wait to visit South Village (mainly to check out the new Coles) but more or less, to go on an eating adventure. We had a craving for Japanese food so decided to visit Umaya Japanese Restaurant.
