Review Foys Kirribilli Restaurant - Kirribilli

Christian Dennis
So close to a 3 star review, food was good, drinks were passable. Decor was awkward and so was the atmosphere nevertheless, a good location with good food. The place did look like a mess hall from a school camp and when I went to pay they tried to overcharge me. Staff was also atrocious but they did their best. (1 star for location 1 star for good food) lost 3 for (overcharge, poor staff and bad atmosphere)

I booked at table for 12 (10 adults 2 kids) for Saturday lunch. I had previously been here for a work lunch 18 months ago and really enjoyed the ambience and food. Hence i was keen to be back. I cannot express how disappointed the lunch had been. Food was really poor and subpar even compared my local pub. Restaurant was only half full and i booked 3 weeks in advance. We ordered scallops for entree. It was normal. Then waited over 40 min for mains. Kitchen was too busy doing takeaways as i saw it. There were 5 fish and chips. All of them were dry and overcooked.  Crust was hard and fish  derived of moisture.  And thats not to mention how small the portion was . i thought they gave us kids meal. It was really really poor quality so much so that one of elders at the table could not finish it. We also ordered 3 fish of the day and i could overlook how small the piece of fish was if not fot the fact it  very overcooked and chewy. The rigatoni was very ordinary and toppped with some very dry and hard prosciutto. This is $34 for pasta that wasnt even freshly made Service for drinks was very slow  so it was just the nail in the  coffin here. I did appreciate the staff giving kids colouring in pencil. Manager on duty gave us the  generic answer of "ill give feedback to the kitchen". In summary mediocre pub food for top prices.  Never back again.

The drink service was good and enjoyed June happy hour promo. However the food service was slow only because the waitress was distracted and completely forgot our order enquiry. The meal arrived after an hour but it presented and tasted well.

Previously an excellent venue, especially pre theatre with varied menu and good quality food. Our last experience was exactly the opposite. Very limited menu, totally overcooked , just fish and limp lettuce. Still pricey. Don’t waste your money until this improves.

Super delish food and amazing ambience

Service ok, not great, but ok. The waitress was 100% pushing for the most expensive stuff without even caring about what I felt like, quite embarrassing. Moreover 26$ for THREE prawns is insane. And I mean literally three, I don’t mean there were few prawns, I mean they literally gave me three and of average quality too. Super expensive for what you get, don’t go waste your money here. Maybe worth it for a glass of wine on the terrace. Not sure.

Has a nice view but very pricey. The taste of food is okayish. Honestly, would just go for the elitish vibes and not for food.

As my friends and I subscribe to the Ensemble, we eat here relatively regularly. Last night was one of those times. Upon being seated we noticed a fairly limited menu. No big deal. We made our choices and placed our order and the waiter explained that there was a new chef and kitchen. Our group had ordered one entree to share so we didn't get too full to enjoy our meal. Well we waited for over an hour to get a small basket of calamari! In all that time no one came near us except when we called them over and the explanation was 'we've got a new chef and kitchen etc' but that shouldn't be the customers problem!! Not once were we offered even a plate of sour dough or something to placate by this time our grumbling tums! When our meals finally did arrive (going on for two hours now) 3 of the four were lovely although my partners steak was not cooked as requested. I chose the lamb and had to cut off about 1/2 cup of lumps of fat. I would suggest that the kitchen staff trim the meat or buy a cut with less fat. After eating our meal we thought we might take chance on dessert only to find that the menu consisted of either a cheese platter or a choice of three flavours of ice cream! And that was it!! Really spoil a good night at the theatre. When my husband went to pay the bill the waiter kindly said 'Thankyou I hope you enjoyed your meal' and my husband relied that we had but it took too long. The kitchen staff some metres away just laughed! Won't be going back. Too many better choices nearby.

We went to the Sydney Flying Squadron for lunch on Easter Sunday. It was a beautiful, sunny day, we sat on the balcony overlooking the water and the boats, such a beautiful view. Lunch was great, the steak was tender, the atmosphere was relaxed and we had a lovely time. Would recommend the Sydney Flying Squadron to anyone who enjoys good food in a beautiful position. It's also good to call in for a drink and snack, membership is very reasonably priced, with very special rates for pensioners and residents. Visitors are welcome.

Enjoyed a wonderful lunch yesterday at the Sydney Flying Squadron, food was absolutely delicious, although we did wait over an hour for our food and as a result of this our daughter fainted. Staff were great in helping provide drinks & chips. Also a gorgeous lady behind us helped too. Thanks everyone.

This is one of our favourite places in Sydney. The staff are great, the food is lovely and the Spectator Ferry is the best value in Sydney.

Love this place for breakfast or beers. It's a great place to take visitors or meet up with locals.

Location location location. Very average food but a great spot to drink a beer looking across Sydney Harbour. Wonderful little Café underneath called The Flying Bear with the same superb view.

Extremely disappointed. Friends invited us to come out on the harbour to watch them race their 18' footer in a series of races to celebrate the 125th anniversary. We rang the club and booked tickets on the spectator ferry. I arranged to stay in Sydney overnight and we arrived early at 11.15am so as to pick up our tickets at the club as requested by staff when we booked. We found the club and a staff member was standing at a service door. We asked where the main entrance was and was rather rudely told "we're not open" we explained we were picking up our tickets and was told " oh the ferry's cancelled" when we asked why we were told it had broken down the week before. This was before we had rung and made our booking. We asked about lunch and was told again that they didn't open till noon. We then went and found our friends only to discover there was food available in the area below the club. We spoke with a man who also booked the ferry for his family visiting the UK to help him celebrate his 50th birthday that day. No doubt there were many people extremely disappointed about the cancellation. I found the staff members attitude extremely rude and by neglecting to tell us there was a cafe area open downstairs would if it hadn't been for our friend caused us to return home with our day ruined. I doubt I will ever visit the club again.

It's a lovely location and most of the staff are adorable! The serving staff were great to us today. Mixed food quality but location makes up for it. Wasn't great today when we couldn't split a big tables bill into two most places let you these days. As much as I understand management not wanting to do it a little more grace from the manager in handling my sisters request would have been appreciated.!! Young man on our table was also told to remove his hat in a nasty manner whilst four other gentlemen in the restaurant were left alone (same person as bill splitting issue so was clearly having a bad day). Again don't mind following rules but using no manners to ask one person to follow rules without asking anyone else doesn't sit well. Normally love this place not sure we would go back now.

I haven't been to the restaurant for a couple of years and, wow, what an improvement. The food was just lovely.

Superbe city ,très arborée, un mélange d architecture surprenante, les automobilistes sont respectueux, très peu de fumeurs, pas de mégots par terre, un peu humide à mon goût, les australiens sont avenants, je reviendrai.

Beautiful setting and quite attractive restaurant. My fish and chips was gtionsood but some of the other dishes were quite ordinary. Wine by the glass portions were miniscule.

Bloody lovely. . . . .if a bit noisy on Saturday but, obviously very popular. Food outstanding! Thank you.

Just love the club but sadly the food is very poor now since the changeover. Have been back several times in the hope it might be improving but it hasn't. Pity!
