Such amazing service and delicious food; @sourcedining has received 1 chefs hat for the last five years and it’s food and produce is a testament to their amazing dishes. The sour plum cured trout and pea risotto were 2 highlights but overall everything was amazing. So fresh and so delish! .

Source Dining was an experience like no other. After a cold but very enjoyable tour around the Farmer’s Market we arrived to a very friendly and warm welcome. Smiles all around from us as we sampled the degustation menu and from the staff. The food was simply delicious and the service exemplary. We can’t wait to visit again ... next time we are goat sitting for our friends!
Took the other half here for his birthday dinner and we couldn’t be more happier. The food was amazing and the staff were great. We had the vegetarian and “normal” degustation, and every part of it was divine. Will have to organise a driver next time to get the matching wine too!
Such a delicious dining experience. The food was incredible. Definitely worth the drive. I especially loved the first course, which was the cured ocean trout. It was very fresh and vibrant. We will be definitely be back!
Excellent food and service. We both enjoyed the blue cheese souffle as an entree.
The flavours throughout the meals were different and delicious.
Surprise dinner at this restaurant, and was so pleasantly surprised. We enjoyed the degustation menu which showcased the best this venue could offer. Food was matched with exquisite Victorian wines. Highly recommended.
Lovely dinner on a quite Friday night. Started with scallops for entree which was perfectly cooked and the Jerusalem artichoke mixed with local Granny Smith apple julienne was a great accompaniment.
My partner had the fried quail. Batter is not too oily and crispy. Mains were the beef, nice and tender and full of flavours, and duck was really good especially the slices of cured smoked duck.
Good portions so we didn’t have room for desserts.
A delicious Friday lunch with a relaxing vibe, great local wine and unpretentious helpful service. Never had a bad experience here and would definitely return again. Outside dining available as well as street view for people watching. A great spot halfway through the lost trade fair.
Food was absolutely amazing. The location is fantastic only a short drive from Melbourne. Service was exemplary and was catered to perfectly for a guest with a nut allergy. Food was so fresh and really made you feel like it was picked from the garden or farm the last very morning. Well done
Every time we visit Kyneton we walk past Source Dining and say "we must eat here one day". Yesterday was finally that day, and we were not disappointed. Source delivers a fantastic experience on so many levels. Booking a table was a breeze on their website, the atmosphere and decor are beautiful, warm, intimate and inviting.
My wife and I ordered the degustation menu with paired wines. The servings are generous for a degustation, and each dish was somehow more delicious than the last. Source was awarded two wine hats in the Good Food Guide, and we now know why. Our meals were paired with a mix of beautiful wines which enhanced the flavours of each dish. The standout dish was the Angus beef dish, and the service here was flawless. Businesses like this are a real asset to country towns like Kyneton.
A really enjoyable experience. Food was absolutely flawless. Throughly enjoyed our beef main, which was cooked to perfection and the pork was so tender and full of flavor. The wine list was extensive. Service could be slightly more polished but staff were friendly. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this fine dining restaurant.
Superb food; impeccable old-style service; gorgeous building in Kyneton’s Piper Street. (Used to be Annie Smithers restaurant) We popped in for lunch and were blown away. A must!
Stumbled upon Source during a weekend away in Kyneton. It's definitely worth a drive from Melbourne. Had the free range pork which was mouthwatering. Would definitely go back. Possibly the degustation next time! It's worthy of a special occasion. The service was great also, very attentive and right across the menu and the ingredients. A nice experience.

Need to drive for at least 2 hours from Melbourne but its all worth the trip!!! Had an awesome lunch with my mates. Ordered the gnocchi, baramundi, pork belly, the lamb tenderloin, steak, and couple of desserts .. one of the best experience and so glad they have their own farm to table experience also! Not in melbourne at the moment. But will surely comeback!
What a delight in atmosphere, service and beautiful food. Staying in Kyneton or nearby don't miss the chance for a beautiful dinner of local produce, tastefully prepared. The scallop and soufflé entrees both recommended. The non-alcoholic mocktails were great for a starter. Lovely dining in Kyneton.
My husband and I decided on the spur of the moment to head to Kyneton for lunch and after a bit of research decided to dine at Source Dining. We love everything about it, the ambience the good and the service. I had the barramundi and my husband had the kangaroo and we both loved our meals ( and we are fussy eaters). Our waiter was lovely and so helpful.
We couldn't fit in dessert but will definitely be back for their degustation menu - it looked amazing but we may need to forgo breakfast and dinner that day.
Amazing food and impeccable service. We came for lunch on a weekday. They had a lunch special which was $45 for a main, dessert and glass of wine. Tried the salmon, prawn and barramundi pie - seriously the best pie I've ever tasted. Also tried the beef cheek - perfect for a cold winters day. Dessert was beautifully plated and tasted bette than it looked. Defintiely worth the drive from Melbourne.
Visited here yesterday during a day trip with friends and were incredibly impressed. The best barramundi I've tasted, with a side of brussels sprouts with bacon and almonds, then the most amazing dessert. Highly recommended.
Greg Kroussoratsky and I celebrated our 3rd Wedding Anniversary at Source Dining on the recommendation from a friend, and we were overwhelmed by the quality of food, atmosphere and above all service. A great range of options on the menu, and the staff were attentive throughout the whole meal. After receiving a complimentary champagne on our arrival to celebrate our anniversary, we knew we were in for a wonderful experience. Totally recommend to anyone looking for a "special treat", Source Dining will not disappoint! Worth every penny spent.
What an amazing experience. Can't fault it. Went as a group of 6 and every single one of us loved this place. From beginning to end - food and service were outstanding, from the mains right down to the finest details - still talking about the whipped butter.
The food here was spectacular!!!!!!! We enjoyed every mouthful!!!!! The lamb brain was perfectly cooked and set the bar high for the rest of the meal. A must visit when you are in Kyneton!
Set on trendy Piper Street Source Dining is highly rated here and did not disappoint. A really nice space, warm professional service and good food cooked from great produce. Plenty for the carnivore, and my vege partner had a dish that she is still talking about. Come hungry; serves are generous.
Went with a group of friends, we booked earlier that day. Exceptional service and a great range of food on the menu, we ordered majority of the items in the entree section and all were fabulous. The accompaniments to the mains were all great too. Beautiful and fresh, seasonal and local ingredients. The only downfall was our meat being overcooked and a little chewy. Literally everything else was great. Will definitely be back
Surprise Birthday lunch half way between Bendigo /Melbourne = Kyneton 😊 Haven't been to Kyneton since they did the Bypass many years ago!! Piper street is certainly the go to street (only a couple of main streets!) for day trippers overnighters. Source Dining was a Wonderful choice, the courtyard on a magic day ☀️ a lovely gesture of a splash of bubbles (complimentary) for Birthday cheers. 🎉. The sourdough bread is made on site and had to be one of the nicest breads ever tasted! Produce is all regional and the salad except for one ingredient came from their garden. The meals were absolutely wonderful,as were the wines chosen (not local - French ) The service was 11/10, thank you so much for making our visit one to remember. ❤️
Couldnt fault it in any way bar one, and that's more a personal thing than a complaint (the only juice on the menu was OJ, limiting for those who don't drink and can't do carbonates) It was for the best part, faultless. Food, service, atmosphere and value. Well worth visiting and definitely a place I will regularly experience. 5/5
Faultless! My wife and I just experienced the most wonderful dinner; great and attentive service (without a hint of pretentiousness) and absolutely mouth-watering food. Phenomenal!
Three of us from Hobart, Canberra and Melbourne thought the food was super fresh, seasonal, creative and delicious, the service friendly, competent and pitched perfectly- charming but not intrusive and the pricing reflected the quality of the food. We loved it!
WOW WOW WOW
The best meal I think we have ever had.
The food is nothing short of brilliant, the service outstanding, wine list excellent for the meals offered. Meal sizes are very generous so beware of over doing it.
Could not rate this place highly enough it is BRILLIANT
Lived up to expectations. We loved every minute of our culinary adventure at this delightful restaurant. Both food and service were impeccable and rounded off a fantastic stay in this lovely town. This bistro gets it right with staff that are having a great time serving quality food. The scallops were a real highlight as was the beef which melted in the mouth. Those kipfler chips were addictive! We will be back for more. A great place to have a romantic dinner, birthday celebration or just a treat any old time.
Delicious birthday treat :). I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and we both had such a good time! The food was absolutely delicious - I had the duck for main and the doughnuts for dessert :) the atmosphere was really nice and the service was personable and friendly - highly recommended!!
A great night out. On a chilly winters night in Kyneton, we were welcomed by the maître de of Annie Smithers. Her welcome could not have been warmer. The restaurant is charming, with tables well spaced and providing the ideal venue for an intimate night in. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. The entrees were expectable with my partner having the pork belly served with apple and cabbage. The disc of blood pudding served with this was delicious. I had the scallops which were perfectly cooked and complimented the flavours of pear, sorrel and prosciutto. The mains were outstanding and rivalled any restaurant in Melbourne. If you go there while the winter menu is on try the slow roasted lamb shoulder, which was succulent and comforting. My husband had the beef which was perfectly cooked and well presented. Our desserts chose and we were not disappointed. It came from the cellar and it tasted beautiful with the desserts. We were happy to pay for the quality of food we received and definitely plan to return in the future. A lovey night out.
Outstanding. We dined at this restaurant formerly owned by Annie Smithers November 2013.
Amazing experience, fantastic food and presentation, exceptional friendly and professional staff. Can't wait to go back when next in the area.
A superb dining experience. Annie Smithers’ Bistrot was recommended by friends and my recent dining experience was one of the best I have had. Having dined at restaurants like Vue De Monde, Jacques Reymond and Guy Savoy, the chef(s) at Annie Smithers’ tantalised my taste bud like some of the best. The fresh pea custard amuse bouche was a fantastic way to start this dining experience - it was light, airy and had great flavours of freshly shelled peas. The amuse bouche was followed by pan seared scallops which were cooked to perfection and were complimented by confit of free range chicken wings. The saltiness of the chicken worked well with the subtle flavour of the scallops. The main was a perfectly presented and cooked venison fillet with crisp potato puffs, beetroot relish and a delicious green peppercorn sauce. If the first three dishes were anything to go on, there were high expectations for dessert and I wasn’t disappointed. Buttermilk panna cotta served with salted caramel meringues. This would have to be one of the best finds in local food in central Victoria. The restaurant is a great addition to the places I eat and I will be returning again and again to be wowed by this amazing food. Well worth a try.
Fantastic food, friendly service. I booked Sunday lunch here for my partner and I after looking for somewhere in Kyneton during a weekend away from Melbourne. I was instantly impressed upon arrival by the décor - very pretty and homely but really well put together. Our table was great and there was a side stool for my handbag/scarf etc - a fantastic touch. We ordered the lambs brains (interesting, well balanced), and the scallops (divine) for starter and we were very impressed. The service was really friendly but a little sloppy (the bread arrived after the starter and the petite fours after we'd finished coffee) but it was a relaxing Sunday lunch so we weren't really phased. I had the beef with dauphinouse potato which was cooked to perfection (rare) and accompanied by delicious carrots. My partner had the pork which was very moist and tender, if not as filling as the beef. The coffee was good and the petite fours were beautiful. All in all, a great lunch - absolutely top marks for the food - and we will definitely be back.
I have to say this is like a ten out of ten dining experience. We had the scallops and quail for entree.. Snapper and steak for main.. Dark chocolate pudding for dessert- flawless! Pricing was reasonable for the quality of the food. Great service. Will def come back again...
Had a baguette, made the baguette this morning, can it get any better, I am in heaven in this place
A wee bit disappointed. Always keep an open mind and I do about new dining experiences.
Was it the hot 37C weather that made the service appear apathetic?
First of all the food was OUTSTANDING! Let's get that out of the way, the entrees (I had the rabbit/boudin blanc and partner had the scallops) were sublime. Main course (eye fillet and fish) were lovely and so tender, though not as exquisite as the entrees but what lacked was the service. The bread I think baked on premises was out of this world as was the butter, I could have had a meal just from that!
Two lovely gents were waiting on tables but we felt we had to continually ask for more bread, drinks, etc etc. I always feel a little miffed when you go to a restaurant that is not hugely busy and you get left alone, too much!! I don't like over eager waiters but this was a disappointment. Ordered a drink and it was forgotten, had to ask for another serving of bread and yet. Am I being picky? I don't think so, as I can almost swallow bad food vs bad service. Sometimes I find when I dine with a girlfriend I get worse service than other women with male companions, mmmm.
Anyways I am so glad we got to this Kyneton gem as I've heard it will not be there much longer as Annie has sold the restaurant. Wishing Annie the best in her other ventures. Prices were very reasonable for the quality of food.
Will be missed.. I have had the privilege of visiting this incredible little place on several occasions and every time I do one experience is better then the next. The passion of Annie is so evident in every little detail, from the decor to the menu and service. It's a shame that some of these people on urban spoon think the way they do. Vegetarian, really, it's not titled a vegetarian restaurant, seasonal cooking is all about what is at hand and what the restaurateur feels they would like to present you with. Why do vegetarians always think they are hard done by!
As for the price it is reasonable according to the atmosphere, produce and skill of the chef and owner, if you can't afford to go DON'T. No use complaining about the price. Eating in Australia in general IS NOT CHEAP!
Now that she has decided to move on to he next venture, I'm hoping these people will NOT follow.
On saying all this she will be missed in that town, that was the only thing that attracted me to it, what a shame, but will be visiting Trentham!
Ate here last night. My husband had steak while I had the pork belly. Substantial, tasty food with vegies included. Creme brulee and chocolate mousse for dessert. All delicious!
Love it. Unfortunately I was at about 60% capacity this evening due to my 3rd head cold of the season so had very little appetite.
WTF!%^$# - yes, a completely new phenomena for me.
I had the leek tart that was so buttery & lite, yet rich in flavour. Like the most delicious vol au vent ever
Then I went for another entree as my main - the prawns.
Again, garlicky, buttery, morsels of yum, but could eat only 1.
My dining companion had the enviable task of consuming the remainder, after he had also ordered the prawns as his entree.
He also had the Duck which was cooked perfectly
Then there was dessert which was also a big hit.
If not for my unwell state - had a really lovely evening.
Warm, attentive yet unobtrusive staff

French perfection. We visited for a special occasion and were not disappointed. This is one place that is French in its soul rather than in its marketing. The food was simple, seasonal, perfectly presented and exquisitely prepared. The service was exactly correct, there when required, knowledgable and friendly without being phoney. Despite being a big space on an exceptionally cold night the room was comfortable and the tables well separated. The wine list was not large yet obviously carefully chosen to cover the widest range of tastes with quality wines. My only regret was that they did not structure the menu to allow a true French finish with both cheese and desert. Yes they offer both, but given the portion sizes it really had to be one or the other!
While not cheap we thought Annie Smither's fully delivered on all fronts.
Believe the hype. Friends of ours (locals) told us we had to eat here. Glad we did.
The food was lovely, fresh and well prepared. The restaurant was full but didn't feel packed and the service was first rate. You can trust the waiter's wine suggestions.
Really didn't have any room for dessert so we went with the generous well selected cheese platter.
Simply delicious!. Clean, elegant and simple food that leaves you completely satisfied.
When you walk into Annie Smither’s Bistrot in Kyneton you feel asthough you are being welcomed into someone’s home. It’s like a dinner party where you only ever get a quick glimpse of your host (Annie) in the pass of her kitchen.
I would highly recommend for intimate dinners and special occasions to feel right at home with friends.
Beautiful seasonal food made with love and reverence of each ingredient.
A total must if you're a foodie in the area.
Yummo!
Annie Smithers is the kind of restaurant you want as your local. Fantastic food driven by excellent local produce, a great wine list, professional and warm service and a lovely setting. Couldn't recommend it more highly.
What food should taste like!. The food here is french in style but wow - it tastes like nothing on earth. They grow all of their own vegetables and you can really tell the difference. Something so simple takes on a completely new life. My husband also bought me the book - Annies Garden To Table. I am so excited - cannot wait to cook a recipe from it. They all look wonderful and nothing too hard. And that is what the restaurant is. Wonderful and not trying too hard. Just beautiful food prepared really simply but using out-of-the-park ingredients. Exactly what food should be.
Had a wonderful dinner here on Australia Day. The service was attentive and efficient. The food was superb - fresh produce prepared to perfection. The hapuka fillet was moist and sat on homegrown potatoes and tomatoes. A lovely bowl of green beans was added as an accompaniment at no cost. Desserts were exquisite - the roasted peach frangipane tart was standout. Will certainly be back. Annie's place is a real gem
Touch of France...... We dined at Annie Smithers a little while back on the recommendation of our B&B hosts, and I'm glad we took their advice. The first thing you notice about AS are the reclaimed 'rustic' premises, presumably an old butcher shop or similar. The artwork won't please everyone but the food & service surely will. I opted for the Char grilled eye-fillet and my dining companion the blue eye, both of which were magnificent. The menu itself was quite diverse and included many 'Game' dishes for the more courageous and relied heavily on local and home grown produce. Overall a great evening with impeccable service and reasonable prices given the style of restaurant. Expect to part with about $55 pp for two courses + drinks
If you're planning on a Saturday evening you'd do well to book a few weeks ahead (at least)
Wonderful as always. Having returned to Annie's several times, our most recent trip wasn't a disappointment. The quality of the food and service was once again tremendous.
We had artichoke fritters from the restaurant garden and scallops with bantam egg spaghettini to start. The artichokes being crisp and tasty. Spaghettini dish was wonderful, nice gentle heat from the garlic and chilli and the bantam egg spaghettini itself was truely superb; silky and rich.
For mains we had the beef (char grilled eye fillet) and the lamb. Again, both were perfectly cooked and accompanied by great vegetables from Annie's garden.
For dessert we squeezed in a creme caramel, which was just like my grandmother's so I can have no complaints!
Service throughout was relaxxed and unhurried but always attentive.
Can't recommend enough
I'm surprised at some reviews here. For food of this quality - the value is excellent. Amazingly, most produce comes from kitchen garden so a bowl of humble carrots took on a new meaning. As did microherbs which were powerful in flavour. The pork in brine is a revelation and I love how some traditional dishes are included but in a really elegant way (Tongue). Entrees at $16.50 are ridiculous in value -you would be paying upwards of $25 in Melb and all mains ($36) include all side dishes. This is a serious restaurant with seriously good food. Price is actually a mute point. Menu is fairly small (it changes daily depending on the produce they harvest) and even then, it's hard to narrow your choice down. They also now have a bar menu and on the Friday night I was in, it was packed with locals eating, drinking and winding down. Will definite be back again.
Open during Winter. Just telephoned Annie Smither's Bistrot and have a booking for lunch today.... during winter. Don't know why others think they are closed during winter... because they most certainly aren't.
Cheers,
Tangrams
Love it. Had a delicious meal here a few months ago, the staff were also very friendly and incredible accommodating for dietary requirements!
It was well worth the trip from Adelaide. My entree of locally foraged mushrooms with poached bantam egg was superb great flavours and a clever vegetarian dish. My main of duck breast with an orange infused glaze was beautifully cooked and went well with the Curly Flat Pinot noir. My friends pork dish was the best I have ever had and was so tender. The desserts were sublime. We journeyed on to the Daylesford festival in a very contented sfate. I will be back to this beautiful village.
A lovely place. We had a really nice lunch for two there yesterday. The garlic prawns and watercress soup were beautiful and our mains ad desserts were excellent as well, and highlighted local produce. Service was attentive but unobtrusive. There is an extensive wine list starting from around $40 per bottle, including some local wines and also some French.
It is not cheap, but it is a lovely trip out of town for a special occasion on a weekend. We followed it with a wander along some of the interesting shops in Piper Street - although somewhat disappointingly many of the places were closed (but this may have just been due to the Grand Final on that day),
Well worth the trip. Great use of local produce, and great wine list. Highly commended by El Pres

This is a photoview post (contains mostly photos only) - Weekender in Kyneton, Victoria.
Love the garden to table approach to their food and we did enjoy our selection of dishes. Disappointingly though, the service was rather indifferent and lacking warmth & enthusiasm. This, in my opinion, can influence the difference between a good and a great dining experience.

Understated and tasteful touch everywhere in this country style restaurant. Beautiful food, setting and service. Impeccable quality. Only just realised after the meal that it was awarded 1 Chef Hat too, what a well deserved accolade.
The space is simple, elegant but relaxed, brick walls softened out with smooth and gently curvaceous wooden chairs and tables. Brad commented that it felt like we were in an art gallery, as the space was quite minimal and the spotlights along the wall seemed to indicate that something could be hanging there. I suppose food is the art here, no?
Ate here last night, ordered the 3 course for $80 per head. Everything was absolutely delicious!! My partner and I enjoyed our meals and table service. For fine dining, the serves are generous so definitely felt we got our monies worth. If you’re visiting the area or Macedon Ranges like we were, I would recommend you book a night out here
Exceptional local, seasonal produce are used to create a wholesome yet refined dining experience. The service was attentive and friendly and the dining room a lovely mix of old Kyneton exposed brick and Danish furniture. The menu was varied and the food delicious. Highly recommended for a value for money lunch. The lamb and the beef cheek mains were fabulous.
I love the vegetables here, all tasted fresh and very delicious~
The other food I think was fair enough good but nothing too impressive
The cooking ways here also very healthy for me, nothing over oily or too much added unnatural sauce feeling
The environment is simple and lovely
The stuff here also nice and friendly~
A good place to enjoy my lunch time here
It’s a place deserve to come and try!
Sublime. Magnificent food, beautiful atmosphere and excellent service.
Lots of special touches.
What an absolute treat for an unbirthday celebration 🍾
Thanks for making our meal into a memory.
What a surprise. Amazing food with a great pairing of local wines .
Service was perfect .
If you are looking for a great place to eat , you can go by Source dining .
Ps . Warm and quite ... am mmmmm how good was that desert.
Pss . I dropped a star for the seating .. a little uncomfortable. But only a problem if you are having a 3 hr degustation.
Best fine dining I’ve tried in Australia! I had the lamb shoulder and it was phenominal. So succulent and full of flavour... it melted in my mouth. Looked that good that I forgot to take a photo of it arriving, hence the half eaten photo.
Again, the desert was also fantastic, flavoursome and very well presented. Unfortunately again I couldn’t wait to eat it and only realised I hadn’t taken a photo for reference until the plate was clean.
Upon paying you’re also greeted with a little tasty treat.
Fantastic value for a 2 course meal and a quality wine at $49. I will be back here next Thursday... just wished they opened more days in the week also!
Delicious, beautiful presentation and great service.
We headed to Source last night for the locals dining menu. It’s a nice bright open dining room, not noisy, nice relaxed feel.
The staff were very welcoming and attentive throughout the meal.
The food was excellent. Nothing overly fancy or challenging, just well cooked and beautifully served.
I had the pork cutlet with a cider sauce and a lovely crunchy coleslaw packed with fennel. Great match. My companions had the barramundi with salad nicoise, I only managed to grab a small taste.
The truffle salt chips were dangerous, have them!
Dessert can sometimes be a let down but not here. My chocolate ice cream was some of the best I have had and I will let the pictures speak for the other two.
Well priced wine list.
We will be back.
