Review Danny's Seafood - La Perouse

Andre Nazarian
This is a five star restaurant. I highly recommend coming here. I loved it here, we got a massive platter and it was the best thing ever. Come down here now and get a once in a lifetime experience in a fancy restaurant and the vest seafood ever.

Dined here for a birthday dinner. About 18 of us. Quality of food was good. Steak, seafood all good. The Calamari as a separate entree order was great. But the calamari in the platter was dry, small sized. The platter was impressive looking. A bit pricey at 190 for two people. I'd suggest you order this and garlic bread and you're done. Creme brulee was good. Though the sugar coating was chewy. I'd say because the restaurant was busy and it lingered in the kitchen a bit too long.

One of the best seafood restaurants around hands down . The freshest seafood ive seen. The cocktails are great as well.

Absolutely beautiful food, staff excellent great old fashioned service....cannot fault! Seafood best around.

It was extremely busy the night we went. But!!!! The service was amazing even tho we had to wait awhile it was well worth it! The salad and the garlic bread where great starters and tasted amazing. The seafood was the best I’ve had in Sydney and they give you heaps of food! I will be back to bay blu for many more occasions cheers for a wonderful night!

Great place to eat, great food, great service, we try and go 8 times a month it’s that good. We travel from Mosman to go and get a meal here... Sam is a FANTASTIC host. Best seafood in Sydney.
Gary Mc Arthur
Excellent service and food had a lovely pleasant meal and not at an inflated price. A bit easy to miss the turn of into it but this aside I can now put them down on my best restaurant list for sure.

Although the food was nice the service was disgusting. They were not busy at all we spent over $700 for 4 people. The shorter waiter came to clear the table after the main meal and tipped a stack of plates on the floor. He picked up the plates but left the scraps of food on the floor under our feet. The scraps of food remained on the floor the entire time we were there. He then had a hide to ask for a tip. Won't go back again doesn't matter how nice the food may be

Hey I and Xihuahua 🐶 used up this week's sinful credit on this innocent afternoon snack after a walk around LaPa. Just a generic Asian run seafood shop. I thought the chips was going to be average. But no no no they had full house during lunch for a reason. The food was quite nicely priced and serving was large. The chips tasted great straight out of the oil. A bit over fried but still delicious! One of the old school restaurants around and they don't aim to rip you off!

Calamari chips and a drink $18.5 now I know seafood cost abit but when you’re paying that much you expect quality? Just grease in a box was disgusting. <br/><br/><br/>Avoid.

Whilst the Danny Special (pictured) didn't really get the taste buds partying I've been here a few times and the place has remained traditional and the service is good. Probably the best Seafood platters in Sydney and a great selection of wine
Les
<br/>Where are the health authorities when it comes to this place! Greasy, oily and no taste what so ever. Can only imagine the crap they are using. Kitchen looked like the back streets of Saigon, no hygiene was visible. Never again, I'll spend my money elsewhere thanks!

Use to love this place, always got the friendly old blokes who were always top notch with service but then it all went downhill from there. We had a rude lady waitress who was rude to us on arrival, made us wait to be served, gave us rude looks when we ordered the seafood platter (like we couldn't afford it) and then had the nerve to give herself a $50 tip without our knowledge. (in the states its a 10% tip, she gave herself 40% tip on top of our bill) Lucky we retificed it before we left. We were also meet with rude patrons on another occasion (friends of the workers or owners) that very rudely watched us the whole time we were, then as the three of us went to wash our hands after having the seafood platter she gave us dirty looks like we were going to walk out without paying, as we approach the register, she became anxious and very judgemental and we were highly offended by the looks we were given. Excuse you we can afford to dine here! Never returning which sucks as even though the food was mediocre the friendly male waiters brought us back.

This restaurant in years gone by was  very good with Friday & Saturday nights requiring a booking but unfortunately over the last two or three years has slowly gone backwards.<br/>Most of the waiters are friendly and helpful.<br/>The place now lacks any sort of atmosphere and needs a good refurbishment including replacing the plastic chairs.<br/>When you are paying top dollar you should get better service and better quality food.<br/>Have not been there for a couple of years and over that time there has been very little improvement a pity as this place is really in a good location. <br/>would need to think again before returning.

This place is always busy, crawling with people, guess cause it's in a great spot. The food however is incredibly greasy and fairly disappointing. Will definitely not go back there.

Been several times decided to go for Christmas lunch. Bad service and even worse food . Traditional Christmas lunch a $10 RSL roast is better reminded of a leqn cuisine frozen meal reheated. At $120 per head won't be going again.

Horrible, I will never go here again. Had the bbq seafood platter and it felt like I ate a plate of bait. Very disappointing, what a shame this place used to be really good. Even the tap water had a funny taste.<br/>

This is a seafood restaurant that does all your favourite basic menu items extremely well. Went there for a mid week lunch so it wasn't crowded. Nice water views from the balcony. Service was provided by two mature experienced gents who were attentive and friendly. We had to try the hot seafood platter. For $58pp, it was well worth getting it. So much food we couldn't finish it. Would certainly recommend and return.

Had the pleasure of some old school classical dining with the boys from @ompty_com when they invited me to lunch @dannys_seafood_restaurant in La Perouse <br/><br/>We got the hot and cold seafood platter: natural oysters, fresh crab, mussels, prawn cutlets, battered fish, scallops, calamari rings, grilled octopus on a bed of fluffy saffron rice 🐠🐙💪🍚<br/><br/>This place is an institution! And the food was all fresh and tasty! I can't imagine how much this place must get smashed during the summer. So good 😊👏

We went with a large group of people for an early celebratory dinner on a Friday night. The restaurant was only 30% full and they only had two rude waiters for staff. The food was slow to be served and overpriced. One meal came out raw and was sent back. We had to wait an hour for our table to be cleared so we could cut our dessert which was asked for 3 times. When asked the waiter said well you will have to serve yourself. We asked about 4 times for table water which was not provided with three thirsty toddlers. When we complained the waiter said to me well we're in the shit tonight what do you want from us. That night three of us who had the barramundi cleo dish were sick all night with food poisoning. This is not the same Danny's seafood restaurant that used to be a treat to visit many years ago. Expensive terrible experience which ruined our evening. <br/>

A La Perouse Institution serving fresh seafood for many years, Danny’s Seafood Restaurant. There’s a Danny’s casual seafood kiosk but we went to the upstairs restaurant.<br/> <br/>We were greeted by the waiter Yusuf who has worked at Danny’s for 25 years, he just loves it there he tells us. He was a great host with very attentive service and he helped us with our menu selection. We ordered a nice bottle of white and he filled us up when empty, kept checking on how things were – top service.<br/> <br/>On this occasion for the entrée we picked oysters three ways – if oysters are your thing, we definitely recommend it. There were natural, Kilpatrick and mornay (those were my favourite) with a side of Greek salad and bruschetta.<br/> <br/>The seafood here isn’t overcomplicated; simple and nice. For the main we ordered scampi with lemon butter and saffron rice, mild flavour and delicious taste. We also got snapper fillets with lemon butter – melted in your mouth. This came with fries.<br/> <br/>Luckily we had room for dessert and my husband ordered the sticky date pudding; fluffy and fresh with oozing butterscotch sauce, cream and ice cream. One of the tastiest ones I’ve had. I went for a favourite of mine – crème brulee – this was an interesting one as it had a touch of lime to it.<br/> <br/>Although the chairs there are plastic and a little dated, you don’t really think about that with the top view overlooking the water. It’s a big restaurant so you could easily go there for a function or a work lunch etc. Perfect overall for a lovely lunch or dinner with the views of botany bay.

Danny's Seafood Restaurant is located along the beautiful coast of Le Perouse. Seafood lovers will be delighted. This view is across the road from Danny's Seafood Restaurant. On a relaxing Sunday, I head to Danny's Seafood for a waterside lunch. Danny's attracts a slightly older crowd. There seems to be a lot of regulars as I notice tables around me calling the staff by name.
Scale Revolution
We went to Danny's for a family lunch last week. We've been going there for years and heard that there had been a recent change of owners. <br/><br/>We recognized some of the 'old' staff. The service was exceptional! Always professional, efficient and courteous. <br/><br/>The food was delicious, as usual. 👌🏽 <br/><br/>Sadly, the decor looked very 'original'. It is starting to look a little run down and could do with a bit of 'tidying up'. <br/><br/>Overall, we had a wonderful time, as usual and will definitely be back.
Sweetandyummie
Lovely restaurant that's been here for years. Menu is traditional seafood with many classics that are simple. I highly recommend the lobster mornay and the whole snapper!
Amys_food_adventures
I have been told this place has been here for years! So i only got my first visit on Saturday. This place has a lot of character and reminds me of an RSL for some reason. <br/>We started with the oysters 3 way (natural, mornay, kilpatrick) and the prawn cocktail, presentation was really nice for the prawn. Then for mains we had the lobster mornay, a whole snapper and the grain fed eye fillet. All tasty dishes. <br/><br/>Then for some dessert we had the creme caramel, vanilla and lime creme brulee, chocolate mousse and the malteser cheesecake. My favourite was the brulee of course :)<br/><br/>Staff were friendly. I believe Joe and one of the other guys have been there for years now!

Danny’s Seafood is located on the historic La Perouse peninsula which was named after the French Explorer Jean-Francois La Perouse. The views are picturesque and it is so relaxing looking out over the ocean. Danny’s is airy and spacious with a capacity of over 300. It is ideal for small gatherings right through to very large events. They serve lunch and dinner 7 days a week and even have a set Christmas Day lunch menu. It was a beautiful day when we visited so we sat outside soaking up the sensational views.

Love coming here when I'm<br/>Back in Sydney!! You can always guarantee a good feed of fresh seafood, at a very reasonable price!! Service with a smile 💯 grilled seafood platter hands down my fav!!
Two Girls One Fork
@dannys_seafood_restaurant in La Perouse are serving up fresh seafood that has a homely feel in a lovely dining environment that overlooks the ocean. Is there even a better way to enjoy a sunset?<br/><br/>The garlic prawns are to die for, the oysters are as fresh as they get and the seafood platter is sure to impress any date. With views and good like this, it's worth going out of your way.

Judging by some of the high 4+ ratings, I can pressume that most people have not eaten Seafood fairly often, or better understand what quality seafood is.I happen to visit this place 2-3 times a year during summer whilst swimming at the nearby beach as it's fairly convenient. I usually order the Grilled Seafood platter which is around $28 however the Rice is tasteless while the bland salad is missing anything remotely close to dressing. The baby octopus comes with an extremely sweet & over-powering sauce practically overtaking the entire taste of the platter. The grilled (apparently Barra) is not seasoned and the piece is extremely thin. The only + is the baby scallops and don't remind me of the Mussels.Overall, Price/taste, the Price far outweighs the taste. The customer service staff at the counter barely smile or acknowledge you.  I overhead a patron complain that his dish was too small and the manager/waiter just said "ok no problems" and went to serve someone else.

It is a little on the pricey side, but the food is worth it. The garlic prawns were a delicious entree to get the tastebuds going. The oil with the garlic and chilli was so flavoursome, and the prawns were thick and juicy. They gave a decent amount too. For main, I had the lobster mornay. Now it probably isn't the best way to eat lobster to appreciate the delicate meat, seeing as it is smothered in HEAPS of cheese. But heck, I loved it. It was a huge portion - the half lobster itself was quite big, and the plate had a small salad and chips as well. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience and I'll definitely be back!

Very bad orange juice was diluted my fish was old and when I asked they said it had been frozen overpriced very bad service not just to my table but other tables too they only cared about one table with 7 people never going back.

Just finished dinner here now, had a lamb pizza and a salad. Super quick service and both the salad and pizza were super tasty. We will be back next time we are in Sydney.
For The Love Of Food
The Food at Danny's seafood restaurant is absolutely amazing.. Best seafood platters! Great to share amongst a group. Service is also very friendly- delicious!
Lucy
I used to love coming here as a kid but unless my memory of the past is serving me wrong it seems to have lost it's spark. The view is still great as is the service - we has toddlers on our table and the woman serving us did her best to accommodate - however the food and atmosphere was lacking. Fried items did not seem that fresh and grilled fish was drowned too heavily in lemon butter. Dessert was top notch though! Sadly not many people at the restaurant. Not sure whether to feel nostalgic or surprised by the outdated bucket seats but perhaps time for a quick change of design :)

Went here during week night. Must try their fish and chips,Seafood Platter, Oyster Mornay, coffee and desert. Foods are yum, nice view and service is good. All come with a matching price tags. At least you get what you paid for.
Jay Aka Areacritic.
Dunno what these other reviews are on about i reckon its a top hake fish n chips!.. price is ok but yeah maybe im used to the basic foah n chips of the Liverpool area!..
Gavin
The food here is overpriced and over rated. Basic fish and chips is disappointing, moving up the menu to prawns and oysters is just bad. The location is great but I wouldn't go back without some major changes.

Horrible restaurant. . dont go. They charge you an arm and a a leg for fish and chips. .. waiters are liars... they should tell you not to order main size meals for kids as entre size would be right. Terrible service. .. wasted my money. .. dont waste yours. ..
Food Booze Shoes
I try not to let the little things bother me. After all, I think I would be very bothered if I did given the occasional outbursts of perfectionism. Add to that the fact that the little things are usually irrelevant or at least unimportant in the mid to lo
Andybronco70
Surly waiter tell us we are liars.....pathetic really.. Oh what’s to become of Danny’s?<br/><br/>Well where to begin – shall we start with the website that is so difficult to locate and decipher it is not worth the effort ...<br/><br/>Now, we managed to locate the website and book ourselves a (supposedly) pleasant Sunday lunch.....how wrong we were. Upon being seated we viewed the menu and were surprised to discover our beloved Lobster Mornay was NOW not on the early bird special pricelist, but at full price. This is contrary to what was advised over the phone one day early.<br/><br/>Note: we have been to many special occasions at Danny’s and ALWAYS, repeat, ALWAYS have the lobster mornay for half (1/2) price. We mentioned this FACT to the waiter and he so very, very belligerently refuted our claims stating he had been working there many years and the lobster was never half price (during early bird timeslots). Sorry but he was 100% wrong. Or maybe he was right and we were just clearly “lying”?<br/><br/>Sooooo, lobster is overpriced; let’s look at other menu items, and this we did. In the interim the waiters, especially the aforementioned expert protagonist, now seem to ignore us no matter how much we attempt to get their ‘attention’. Wow, how peculiar and childish. <br/><br/>The food was quite good and plentiful, nonetheless the actions of one surly and obtuse ‘waiter’, as well as the newly overinflated prices now mean Danny’s is a no go for us, ever again...
Terrible
Terrible service, rude owner, cheap food- presentation was disgusting. The calamari was not hand battered it was frozen calamari from a bag, the safron rice tasted like cigarettes and the floor was dirty- this was on a quiet day, where they should have paid their customers extra attention, however the staff themselves were sitting eating, too lazy to get up and do their jobs. Woud not reccomend thos place to anyone!
Maseror
Not Worth the money. Went there last night with family<br/>On average, food was good but not extraordinary (too much sauce hiding the taste of the fish and the lobster).<br/>Regarding the quality of service, staff is either unprofesssional or incompetent, and should change jobs.<br/>MAS

Great view and atmosphere. The food is abit expensive and the platters is abit small. But overall its a great place to try...^^

Danny's seafood downstairs review. Was very disappointed when I went to the café downstairs. The place was very dirty and the fish was uncooked and the batter tasted like egg. will not be going there again.

Inaccurate menu listing and rude staff. Being a pescetarian I don't eat any red meat or chicken but I do eat seafood. For personal beliefs, I have followed this diet for the last 7 years. Today at danny's I ordered the jumbo prawns. I cut open the prawns I found something that looked and tasted like bacon. I was unsure as the Menu said nothing about any bacon or meat being in the prawns. So I asked the very unfriendly waiter what it could be or if it could be bacon. He was very unhappy that I had questioned the menu being wrong. He refused to ask the chef what the ingredient was. Instead, he started screaming and pointing into my plate touching the prawns. After he abused me saying it was pine nuts and not bacon. I showed him what a pine nut looked like. He continued on explaining it was a pine nut and why the hell would it be bacon. He then continued to tell me that all the chefs were Muslims and no way would they use bacon in any of the meals. I was very uncomfortable with this and let him scream at me until he finally had been told by another waiter to just check with the chefs incase it could be bacon. 5 minutes later a lady came up to tell me that YES IT WAS BACON!!!!! I was disgusted with the way the waiter had dealt with the situation and how uneducated he was about the difference between a pine nuts and bacon. Personally I think there is a massive difference. I was offered a new meal by another waiter but I refused the meal as I was so worked up by the first waiter I wasn't interested. There were no apologies from the waiter at all. Danny's should really educate their staff on how to deal with customers. I advise that Danny's also update the menu.

Mr Max A. Have been going to Danny's for over 30 years and I took two colleagues to lunch on 22/07/14. We all had oysters and fish. Very disappointed and dissatisfied and it is not the Danny's we knew so well. When the dessert came i think it was a few days ago when it was baked, the ice cream was OK. What a shame such a great position and great venue. I will not be rushing back and neither will my friends.
Kerri-ann Youngberry
There is Danny's restaurant upstairs and downstairs Cafe, there is no difference in the quality of food, it is always unfresh tasting and over cooked. You can order from the restaurant menu from the downstairs Cafe because it's the same chef.
Rachaeldoesbette
Rachael b. It drives me nuts that people are reviewing the cafe and not the Restuaraunt, Its a big difference! the restuarant is upstairs, the cafe downstairs. this is by far one of the best around I think, especially if you cant afford it you can go for the early bird special 12pm or before 7pm and its cheaper. Ive never had a bad dish and I travel a fair bit to come here every few months. Had my 40th here 2 years ago aswell. The oysters are always fresh and creamy, the garlic prawns are so yum. Lobster is awesome too. Last time I had the Barramundi and it was really lovely and also the fried prawns yum!<br/><br/>so please be careful when you review about half the people here are reviewing the wrong place and it doesnt do it justice!

Salt & Pepper squid done in fish deep fryer complete with strong fish taste. More salt & pepper on the chips. Nice Caffe Aurora coffee. Nice view.

Seafood with a view. We ate at Danny's recently for the first time for a Sunday family lunch. Don't get the restaurants (or the reviews) mixed up. Danny's cafe is downstairs, upstairs is the licensed restaurant. Been around for ages, I'm told - waiters and service old school (which we like). A table on the outdoor balcony is lovely to take in the location. Food a bit slow to the table but enjoyable. Bit pricey for a quick Sunday lunch, but if you are happy to pay to sit above the street, eat oysters and drink nice wine.....lovely. I did query the weekend loading and credit card surcharge on the bill though.
Twofattiesonamission
The service what horrible. It is standard that if the restaurant is quite the service will bring the items to you.<br/>The process of ordering is to buy at the cash counter, first employee was on their phone, I did say hello, but ignored. <br/>A new employee saw, and served me, this lady was rude.<br/>The food was okay, I ordered the bosciola, it was very bland, and I didn't finish it because it was just not worth it.<br/>It was fairly cheap for the quantity you received.

Danny's seafood restaurant. There's more than a few historical reasons for going down to La<br/>Perouse. At Danny's, every time I've dined, the last being the third, the food's been great. I remember how good those crunchy fries tasted, on my first visit. The woman running it, is a bit hard to make sense of, but this was just what I needed on a warm Wednesday afternoon, as this delicious meal filled the void. The Salt and Pepper Squid that comes in about seven big pieces, at first you think you've been short changed, but it's bigger than it looks, when it comes to eating time, accompanied by those every tasty crunchy chips, that I devoured, as if been starved over a few hours, which I was that included a taxing walk, back up from the cute Tamarama Beach, tucked in between Bondi and Bronte. As visiting Sydney, the spacious alfresco/dining area, wonderfully sheltered by that rubbery plastic, whatever, that also acts as a dome, brilliantly fights off the intrusive, yet perfect afternoon sun, lets you admire too, the sparkling water, and sun shimmering off the bay. Also, I had just learn't that Castro guy killed himself. What a perfect way to top off a great meal. The batter on the squid is crunchy too. I can't understand the negativity this place get, and what is the deal with the woman running it. It's only custom as with My Thuan, to visit these favorable eateries, every time I come to Sydney. I can just sense that juicy and yummy batter taste, bouncing off my dry pallet as I write this. Oh, how I envy thee.<br/><br/>Chips 9/10<br/>Squid 9.5/10

Never again. My wife and I have been going to Danny's for around the last 6 months about once or twice per month. Not anymore. Half way through our meals, I requested more water and the waiter took our glasses, which were both not empty, and did not return. We waited for around 15 minutes but with no waiters hovering around, we got up and left. $75 for average fish and chips and an entree size muscles is over priced and we have not seen Sunday surcharge prices in a long time so that's a joke.
Aaron Cronin
Outrageously priced ($29 fish n chips, $38 steak) and very average food. Views are nice if you enjoy container ships.
Pandaratesfood
What could be better than spending a lazy afternoon by the water while you eat your fish and chips just the way you like it while the sun sets before your eyes? Well, basically having almost anything you want. From tasty seafood platters that wake up your taste buds but won't put a hole in your pocket to mouthwatering souvlakia and classic pizzas that taste as good as any Italian restaurant. The servings are generous and the flavour is on the mark. I have yet to order anything that wasn't pleasant on the palette. The salmon in lemon butter sauce is a personal favourite served with real mash, just the right amount of chips and a light salad. The grilled prawns might of come from a restaurant seasoned to perfection and accompanied with a flavousome rice that you could only ask for from home. <br/>The deserts are amazing and fresh. One of the best lemon meringue tarts I've ever had so good, that I had to order another three to go. All cakes are served with real icecream that could be a meal on its own. <br/>A truly great place for a casual meal or, for the whole family. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is inviting. It has become one of my favourite new haunts.

We went to this restaurant on a Sunday night. We had a nice creamy barramundi and the guy came to our table playing guitar.nice restaurant but a bit too far away from anywhere !

Simon Food Favourites review. Their classic Fish and Chips ($8.50) was OK but batter could have been a bit more crisp. The BBQ Octopus with Chips and Salad ($17.50) was disappointing though. Octopus was a bit rubbery and luke warm which makes me think it wasn't quite cooked to order. Hence why the order only too about 5 minutes before all being ready. Salad was fresh but smothered in mayo. Service seemed efficient and friendly enough. Doesn't seem to be much choice in the area except for Paris Seafood Cafe and The Boatshed (which I've had a bad experience at so won't be going back there — http://simonfoodfavourites.blogspot.com.au/2011/05/boatshed-cafe-waiter-theres-hair-in-my.html)

Where Have We Been. We used to go to Dannys regularly years ago and for some reason got out of the habit. Upon seeing the voucher decided to go and see if anything had changed. Saw familiar faces which was nice and the food was great. Everything was tasty and well presented and we will definitely be going back and trying some old favourites. Nothing like an outlook to the water with good food and nice wine. We also wished we had got a couple of extra vouchers!

Good fish and chips! Light and fluffy and cheap!

We are new residents to the area to a brand new development. Danny's take away (down stairs) was very unpleasant. The Seafood platter tasted bitter, like Old oil, obvious cheap seafood and way too average... The area is changing and very fast... New residents demand quality and we know, by experience, that only the restaurants and cafes 'smart enough' to lift their game will succeed... Will not go back and will not recomend to our neightbours. Sorry...

Deals - Hot and Cold Seafood Platter for Two. Wow, I have to say, wow. Their seafood platter came with four different dips, it was huge and it was the most amazing seafood platter I've ever had. The crab cakes were amazing as was pretty much everything else. It was aesthetically pleasing and came with fruit and vegetables for health! I will definitely be back for more.<br/><br/>The restaurant is situated in a nice place on level two so you can have a nice view of the bay. This is a big restaurant and the service was great. If I ever see those $49 vouchers up again, I will be sure to snap up much more than just one.
