Charis Seafoods is a bit of a tourist favourite, and we joined the crowd by bringing some friends their for their first visit involving some beach play, fish and chips, and watching the afternoon pelican feeding.
Food wise we shared 2 family feast packs, $69.90 each:
* 4 fish
* 4 potato scallop
* 12 calamari
* 4 seafood stick
* 4 prawn cutlets
* 4 pineapple fritters
* medium chips
* large Greek salad
* 2 sauces
* 1.25L soft drink & 4 cups
The fish pieces were quite large, and batter on fried items was mostly pretty good in staying crunchy. The fish itself could probably do with a bit more seasoning - might have helped if we realised there was a whole stack of salt & pepper sachets included 😄
As we were there on a public holiday there was an additional 10% surcharge. This was also the reason given for not allowing salad substitutions (wanted to change one of the Greek salads to coleslaw - same size & price). Overall still reasonable value though as we didn't manage to finish all the food.
Finished lunch in time to watch the pelican feeding frenzy that happens at 1:30pm each day - those birds don't need a clock to know when free food is on offer!
Nice place to take a family or friends overseas to show pelican feeding. Fish and chips were pretty fresh. Outdoor sitting with lots of birds waiting you to feed them (my suggestion, please don’t feed them, they would annoy you for asking more food). Place is always busy in the weekend.
Super busy restaurant with wonderful location, offering freshly caught seafood. It’s a nice choice for family or friends gathering during the weekends, enjoy the sunshine, as well as the tasty seafood
Large variety of fish and chips with options of local fresh. I like how’s there is the option to purchase fresh prawns to eat. There are meal deals available. Going on a Sunday lunch it is very difficult to get a car park.
Really delicious thick cut chips and fresh seafood! Always really busy because of the great location on the water. Staff are nice but sometimes a bit rushed and not focused so much on customers. Recommend getting things separately because the combos don’t make a difference, and the sides are delicious and great value too (calamari, potato scallops etc.) Warning that they don’t salt they’re food, but give you facility’s to do so (including chicken salt and vinegar) Definitely recommend Charis because of the fresh seafood, and good quality chips.
Driving from Brisbane down to the Gold Coast today, we decided on some fresh seafood from Charis. Walking in at noon, the store was full of hungry customers, it's the school holidays! Thankfully, I eventually got our lunch order. Yum, time to eat!
The Tasmanian Pacific oysters were freshly shucked and were delicious with a drop of Tabasco sauce. The medium King Prawns were fresh and sweet. And the Spanner Crabs were solid with beautiful white tasty meat.
A wonderful picnic lunch of fresh Australian seafood under the sun. Thank you Charis Seafood!
Been going here since I was a little girl with my family. Best seafood and fish n chips is 10/10. Very good location near the water and it's very clean.
What i love about this place
1. It's located near the beach. I really like the ambiance and atmosphere
2. The seafoods are fresh so they don't smell bad
3. The fish and chip is so 'buttery', I love it
4. The waitress are so nice to me
A bit expensive. In a good location and have plenty of varieties. Essentially a seafood shop plus fish and chips. Tastes like any other fish and chips shop.

have been having to come here and today was finally the day and without a huge line to wait, chile were good, the fish and calamari pretty much melted in my mouth in one bite I highly recommended this place

Growing up working at my parents seafood takeaway business since I was 7, I think it's safe to say I'm well experienced to know good fish and chips when I see it. Now that we've moved from that business, I can finally hunt for the best fish and chips out there. I heard of Charis for the longest time but it's a bit of a drive all the way down to the gold coast just for fish and chips. Finally, a trip down to the coast for some shopping led to seafood and deep fried goodness cravings. I ordered a snack pack type deal that had calamari, battered cod and chips. Definitely brought back memories and I'd say everything was perfect and spot on with the crispy batter on that cod. The calamari were exactly how my mama made them with a thin coat of fine breadcrumbs fried to perfection. The chips however were the more thick cut fries which I prefer thinner, super crunch and fluffy sort of fries. That's just personal preference but nonetheless, they were cooked perfectly. Since fresh seafood was available we had to get some salmon sashimi style and some cooked prawn with tartare sauce, my favourite. Nothing to really complain about. Service was quick and easy like any take away should be. I can't say if it's the best but it's definitely one of my favourites so far and worth a visit if you're ever down the coast.
Decent fish and chips - pick your fish from the fresh market section and they'll cook it for you. Potato scallops and chips are nice but you have to salt your own which is difficult especially when many people are trying to pick up their orders and you have a large box - should just be done behind the counter.
Also ordered cooked prawns and some fish and scallops to cook at home.
Have purchased here on a number of occasions. Always busy as is adjacent parkland and car parks. Opening hours should be extended. Good fish and chips but may have to wait.
Charis Seafood is Labrador's most prized possession. You can't beat the location and it's the perfect picnic spot. My family's Christmas wouldn't be the same without their prawns.

I visit this place fairly often every time I stay around Gold Coast. Great supply of a large diversity of fresh seafood produce readily to be eaten on the spot or taken away. Love the outdoor area where you can enjoy the beauty of the gold coast beaches and relax with a few friends. Great atmosphere and always clean & fresh.
Really enjoyed my fish burger & chips. The chips were crunchy and my fish burger was fresh. The hubby had a piece of snapper which was yummy aswell. Not oily at all and again fresh. It is quite pricy but you pay similar at a food court in a mall. Only downside was eating outside and getting pestered by the seagulls.. doesn't help when everyone feeds them their leftovers... yuck!
With no knowledge on seafood, the kind staff recommended to try a fresh piece of blue eye from new zealand. I chose my piece and had it grilled with chips and salad. I enjoyed my lunch overlooking the broadwater and watching the pelicans be fed. Overall a great experience with a great atmosphere. I'll definitely be back for more :)
Seafood. Good quality fresh seafood with probably the widest range on the Gold Coast. Very reliable and reasonably priced. They also have a cooked seafood section for fish and chips.

The shop has one of the best and most diverse displays of seafood on the coast, top quality and sparkling fresh. It’s one of the few big suppliers who also cook hot seafood to take away. Charis also has a top location, being situated on the Broadwater, so many people take advantage of the tables and chairs outside to eat fish and chips beside the water – the best dining room in the world!
Great selection of Seafood. Our lunch of Oyster, Spanner Crabs and Prawns were very enjoyable. Highly recommended!
Long time fan of Charis. Decent quality seafood at a reasonable price.
I typically grab a dozen or two of their fresh oysters (this time we got pacific and Tasmanian) with a few wedges of lemon and sit outside on one of the benches to devour them.
Good place to have combo mix fried seafood!

Charis Seafoods has a huge selection. Staff always obliging. Great location on the water with park and swimming bay outside and toilets etc. Seafood always fresh and tastes great.
Orders take a bit, customer service was nice. Meal was fresh. Because alot of people come here, orders can take time.
