Review Queenies - Largs Bay

Jonny Warren
The food was decent and the coffee was great. Bit of an odd start to the experience when we were greeted with a friendly “Hi” but then they walked off.. twice. We weren’t sure if we were going to be seated or we just had to fend for ourselves. At least the food came out quickly. Great location for a walk along the beach after breakfast.

What a great little place serving up amazing coffee and sourcing South Australian ingredients for their delicious meals. The scrambled eggs this morning were flawless and everything was so tasty - roast tomatoes, bread and even the bacon! Too yum!

The queenies team always look after us! It's delishious and their style is fancier than most high street Cafes! Coffee and food are always perfect. Queenies is an absolute local favourite, we highly recommend!

I love the place! I love the simplicity of the menu. I am a regular and have even been fortunate enough to hang and sell my paintings here! The lamb skewers and the prawns are the best...and everything on the breakfast menu! Staff are friendly and kind to my children so I couldn't ask for more.

Queenies are very accommodating for people with dietary needs. Without charging the earth as well... thank you lovely coffee and the beans were delicious

Lovely little cafe. Close to beach. Tasty food and good serving sizes. Standard sort of price for food near the beach.

Thank you to the staff at Queenies. We people enjoyed our BLT and coffee. LadyB enjoyed her sausage as evidenced by the speed at which she ate it. A great place for people and their dogs.

Best breakfast I've ever had - beautiful rye toast with smashed avocado, perfectly poached eggs & generous serve of smoked salmon on top - divine! Great coffee too.

A gorgeous place to get settled in for good food and good wine. I can't wait to have my birthday dinner here next month. Fun and friendly staff are the best.

Food was great - no prob there! But really the lack of service when we arrived was terrible. We arrived and came to the front counter to look at the menu - no hello from the coffee lady behind the coffee machine. She took the coffee and gave it to another girl to send to a table and then stood next to the counter to talk to others!....Hello we are standing there waiting for you! Even our wondering eyes and looks towards you didn’t seem to give you or other staff any clues. You’re big hello when you finally saw us is not warranted! I’d get more manners from people serving me at maccas.

have been here before and really enjoyed it. Was disappointed on last visit as food was overdone and service slow.

Having had dinner the night before at 'The Largs', the wife and I decided brekky at 'Queenies' just down the road. Nice ambience on a Sunday, folks with dogs out front and a nice range of places to eat indoors. I ordered berry pancakes and a flat white. Water available a nice touch. Food served in a good time. Generous portion size. For me, the pancakes with berries, thick cream, slivered almonds a nice crunch, and orange flavoured tendrils a nice flavour combination. At around $15 + coffee, quite okay value.

What a gorgeous spot. I absolutely loved it! There are many seating options, inside and outside. The staff are pretty friendly. The menu is not huge but with some yum options. I opted for mushroom dukkah dish which was YUM! Can't wait to come back again!

Me and my family went here good while ago. And was treated with such disrespectful by the starff. And waited ages for our food and coffee. And have never returned to be treated with such disregard. I hope that the owners of this can tske on board constructive criticized.

Today I took my family to Queenies for brunch. I went up to order and was a little shocked by the way I was treated by the staff member at the counter. She was very abrasive, rude and quite frankly - seemed hung over! I was not accustomed to the fact that the extras were an extra four dollars when I questioned this I was treated very disrespectfully and answered back with a very condescending undertone. It is not about the money, I just want to understand what I was paying for. The food was nice but honestly nothing special and for the amount it cost and the service we were provided it was certainly not worth it. I would suggest eating elsewhere if good customer service is important to you!

Food was tasty however 1 of my poached eggs still had quite a bit of uncooked white.

I feel there may have been an accident and they were in a hurry to cook a second egg.

Coffee on the other hand was pretty bad. I couldn't tell if mine was made out of soy milk, or my wife's was made of normal milk. Maybe the barista had a bad day.

A cute little breakfast and tapas place, bice spot, fresh food. Although I find that the quality of bith the food and service has dropped over the past few year it stays one of my favority brunch place around semaphore/largs
Positive Negatives
Went for breakfast after Large Pier had stopped at 11 and they recommend we go over there, as we had a dog.

Fit out is awesome, very hipster with blackboard paint and chalk for the kids.

Totally get what they do there and, on first impressions, was looking forward to it!

Ordered coffee and after a reasonable 10 minutes (busy service) our coffees turned up. The waitress was wondering round because WE moved, but still the coffees were wrong. Obviously she heard long BLACK instead of long MAC. No biggie.

I ordered breakfast, the Queen breakfast, add sausage (they were out of sausage) and the Bircher Muesli (they were out of rhubarb). Clearly been a busy morning for them, and why not! It's Sunday, the sun is shining and the place is awesome.

Sausage will be swapped out for chorizo, and the rhubarb for fresh pears and strawberry. Hoorah! Love chorizo with my breakfast, and more fresh fruit can't go amiss with my wife Bircher.

so then the waitress comes out with Bircher and something else, again wondering round not knowing what food was for who. She gave us the Bircher, and the table nxt to us the other dish.

The Bircher, was not Bircher. It was closer to porridge and needed milk for moisture. My wife is quite fussy, and more so and excellent cook and this was not a good representation of Bircher we have seen anywhere else. That being said it was delicious, but not what was described.

And then my breakfast arrived, Well look, everything was great, apart from the chorizo, that I had to pay an extra $4 for (originally sausage). I was expecting a sausage of chorizo, as with many other breakfast joints, However it was thinly sliced, barely fried chorizo. It was at this point I realised this place was also a pizza hub at night. I see what they did.

So I ate my breakfast, sans chorizo and wondered inside to pay.
I discussed with the girl who tool my order about the chorizo, and asked if they just used pizza chorizo, due to running out of sausage? I explained I had left 80% of it, and didn't think it was fair to sell it like that.

She apologised, and I could see her embarrassment with her body language. She said, that it was no problem and she would get that manager.

She arrived and discussed it with the waitress, and said to her (not me) 'yeah just charge him for it'. I asked if I was being charged the extra $4 for "pizza chorizo' and she replied with 'that's how we've always served it'.

I was curious that they always serve chorizo like that when they run out of sausages, surely they would just not run out of sausages?

I would have bought a takeaway coffee, had it have been deducted from my bill, alas it was not, and I can't believe they wouldn't just wipe $4 off my bill.

$4 to a customer is worth more (figuratively) than it does to the owner.

To sum up, great place. foods good. Just really burned by a bad first experience. Maybe I set the bar too high.

Largs Pier does way better breakfast, and I know people may say it's crap, but do yourself a favour, The eggs are to die for.

Great Service!. Staff were friendly and accommodating even though I forgot to ask for my eggs well done (I'm pregnant). I asked just for them to be put in the pan again but they made me two new eggs even though it was quite busy.

Tucked Away but OK. Had breakfast as part of a group gathering and ordered the strawberry + banana pancakes. In terms of presentation, taste, portion size and satisfaction, it did not disappoint - would order it again tomorrow. Other diners at the table ordered different dishes but generally the response was the same - plentiful and tasty portions served in a timely fashion.

Inside, I would describe the decor as "cozy and rustic". Was let down a little by the placement of our table, as it was parked directly in line with the cashier... meaning that anyone who wanted to move in or out of their seat would bump into waiting patrons... would also make those seated near the patrons feel closed-in. The place was hectic without being overly crowded, but despite the busy atmosphere all orders were correct.

Will come back, but is too far away to be a convenience for me.

Where to start... With the .... Where to start...
With the outrageously expensive tapas? $19 for 3 prawn sticks? That were cold. Or the $18 breakfast dish "south of the boarder" which is runny eggs on two tortillas. So harshly over priced. What are you doing to charge so much? The food here has taken a dive for the worst. So inconsistant just like the coffee. On the weekend its brilliant, however went there friday and it was bitter, cold and spilt everwhere. If your going to charge so much, clean up your act.

Kitchen closes at 9 pm, you've got to be kidding me. Or is this just an Adelaide thing?..

Average breakfast. Went to Queenies on Saturday morning for breakfast - ice coffee not good and too small, banana smoothie - not good - no OJ (not delivered yet), I had the pancakes and bacon, maple syrup - more like pikelets and bacon and a hint of maple syrup, my partner had a full breakfast - alright but expensive and a BLT ordered as well - loads of tomato just average - wont be going again!

Fun and Yum. My friend and I shared two pizzas for lunch and they were sensational. Really. Two of the most delicious pizzas I have ever eaten. If the rest of their menu is like their pizzas then you cannot lose. Friendly staff and delicious coffee. All good even the outside toilet.

The coffee here is delish. By far the best on the peninsular. You won't find a better coffee in the west. Staff amazing so is the food

Like it. Often i don't like seafood pizza, this place has a really tasty simple pizza. Friendly genuine staff, without being over the top. Not sure about beaky, never had it.

LOCAL AND PROUD!. Wow! I am so glad Queenies is up the road. I'm proud to show off the awesome venue and menu to family who are from the country and interstate. Everytime I go to Queenies the service is exceptional. All the staff are friendly and great with my 3 children. The chalk on the side walk is great for kids. People can go for a walk and bring their furry mates for a coffee on the veranda. The food is delicious and as if that isn't enough......they support local artists like me by hanging my paintings and doing SALA and the Fringe Festival. Love it! We will keep comming back.

I have been her on 3 occasions at 10am. The sign states it opens at 8am. Each time there has been someone inside, once the man inside said they werent open. When i questioned him about opening times there was no answer. Each time - no coffee no service.

The coffee was bitter and the food tasted like it had been warming in an oven for ages. The eggs were so overlooked. Maybe I'll try again when it's not so busy..

Not good. Got takeaway coffees from there on the weekend, they were undrinkable! Far too hot and so bitter! Don't think I could be convinced to go back there for food!

Excellent. Lovely atmosphere and great service. A small change to a dish was accommodated with no problems. Decent wine list. We stuck with the small bites and every bite was delicious.

Queenies has arrived!. I have Followed Lou from Grandma's at Henley Beach to Cafe Froot at Semaphore & now her latest venture with partner Billy at Queenies. Always made to feel welcome & wonderful Little Bites are perfect for ordering several & sharing at table with friends. Some of the desserts from Grandmas menu put in an appearance & bring back nostalgic memories. Retro in style, Queenies has become my favorite place to eat whether by myself with a book or sharing with mates.

Crap. Brekky was awful. Soggy toast, undercooked eggs and cold tomatoes. My bf had the toastie. Was ok, but a bit steep for $9. Would not go back.

Get down here.... Outstanding feed, get down here and enjoy. Great food, great service... Delicious "Little Bites", and awesome Pizza. Don't miss out. Oh, and not to forget the Black Sambuca affogato!
RIP IT UP MAG
Queenies has jumped right out of the '60s with a retro style that is becoming more and more familiar in cafes opening all over town. Inside is a casual mix of vintage furniture and accessories with a large space for groups to the rear. They’ve also made good use of the front porch and side sunroom, adding more dining options with the added bonus of a fresh sea breeze if the weather is right.
