Wonderful foods!
All foods were fresh and cooked so good. They combined between chinese cuisines and western cuisines.
Great service, we didn’t take a long time to wait and staff were friendly too.
Highly recommended!
We came here yesterday but unfortunately the place was fully booked, so we had to get a take away instead. We ordered their singapore noodles, braised ee fu noodles and buck bow farn. As our order is more than $50, they gave us a complimentary portion of fried rice.
Overall the food was nice, i especially like the ee fu noodles as we never had this dish anywhere else and it was yummy.
If you're in Launceston during the year end holiday period, there's no harm in making reservation, especially if you are travelling in big groups as the popular dining places can be booked out by the tour groups.
On yet another awe inspiring trip to Tassi visiting and staying with Bedford Friends,as policy 2nd nite in ,off to Launceston`s Me-Wah restaurant. Its Ambience and Service is still second to none,a Must try for you oyster lovers are the Bruney Is deep fried morsels, they are the Best, better than All the Rest,(-: a Great Menu! p.s the Lamb Shanks R Great too; had to go back on way to airport for another taste (6)of the delicious morsels. Thanks Nigel(,mate). Will call in next time over.Cheers! Denis.
Can't fault the food and service. Very flavoursome meals. Waited too long between courses, so if you have no where to be, you can enjoy the extensive wine list. Recommend the dumplings and dessert.
We headed along for an intimate belated birthday dinner for my husband. The service was unbeatable - actually, it is the best service we have ever had at a restaurant! The maitre'd went above and beyond and our table waiter was also amazing. This is high end dining. The food was to die for, we are both vegetarians so had the vege dumplings and san choy bau for entree: incredible! So tasty and fresh. For mains we had black truffle mushrooms, monk's delight and vege fried rice to share, both equally amazing. To finish we had the banana fritter. It was so delicious! We will definitely be heading back again and again, bringing friends and family next time too! Thank you to the staff for such an enjoyable experience :).
Came to Launceston for holiday, was attracted by the other foodies' photos with the large fresh scallops. So here we came to try them out. I wouldn't say 100% authentic, cause is quite a bit of a western style has put in it, especially for the desserts part. I mean is fascinating seeing deep fried ice cream with a beautiful presentation.
Great food, really fresh, with interesting flavours. Chinese tailored to more of a western pallet, with easy to eat cuts of meat.
Staff were very welcoming, really pleasant atmosphere.
Could not fault the food
Would say the restaurant is clean, bright and airy, but maybe could do with a little modernising with a layout change.
Would definitely go back to eat there again! A must try.
Lived nearby on a visit to Launceston. Placed an order by telephone which was efficient and friendly. Collection was smooth and order was ready on time. Food was checked before I received it to ensure no mixed up order. Ordered chicken satay dish (not on skewers but still tasty), prawn chow mein and lamb pancakes. All fresh, good quality and tasted good.
Although not located in city centre, both food and service are on the top. Will visit next time to Launceston. I will thank all staff there who were so nice and professional.
Wonderful lunch after a brewery tour and we arrived right when the kitchen was closing. A lovely light lunch of assorted dumplings, duck San choi boy and ginger scallops. I already want to come here again. Lovely old fashioned service and a little small talk with smiles.
BEST service I've had in an asian restaurant!. When our two families walked in without a booking, we were told that they were fully booked. However, within 5 minutes, the staff managed to organise a table for the 8 of us. The front of house staff member was exceptionally friendly and accommodating, and the staff who served us were very attentive. Our tea was always filled up, and never went below halfway! The food arrived very quickly and was great. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for great asian food and good service in the area!
Good Job!. No problems here with the food, every thing was great, expensive , but great.
Service was very friendly and attentive. The only thing that was a bit offish was the very small alcohol measures.....seemed on the undersize of standard.
We found this restaurant on this site and took the chance went here without booking for 8 of us. The wait staff was very polite to tell us it was booked out but he tried his best to accommodate us. He managed to rearrange his booking and we have a round table of 8. The food was fantastic. The service was superb. Highly recommend.
Excellent take-away, good service. I had high hopes of our first meal in Launceston and this restaurant didn't disappoint. I telephoned and easily ordered off the online menu (google the restaurant, the menu links on lots of restaurant-review websites take you nowhere). When informed that my order meant I scored free dim sims, I declined as we're not big fans and was immediately offered free spring rolls in their place! Yes please!! I asked for the food to be ready at a certain time but underestimated the traffic and was early. I apologised when I arrived but I didn't have to wait long at all. The food was great - the beef and black bean is up to my usual standards, the cashew chicken provided a nice contrast and the rice was perfect. The spring rolls were a little doughy but hey, they were free! The restaurant looked like a really nice place to sit down and eat, but with a toddler, we probably would have torn the place apart.
Fantastic food and service. A gluten free paradise. The food is fresh and tasty. A must visit for anyone visiting to launceston.
Good display of local produce but not amazing except for the green lip abalone. Very attentive service but be prepared for very small serving sizes. Go for 2/3 courses or get 5-6 mains to share between 4 ppl.
Delicious food and great service. It lived up to the hype and I can't wait to go back.
Really special. What a treat. After gorging on Tassie produce for a few days we wanted to try more of the same but with a twist, e.g. Cantonese flavours. We were so impressed! Trying to keep the whole meal local, we had a bottle of Jansz and ordered entrees of abalone soup and six Bruny Island oysters steamed with spring onion. Omg the oysters, they were the biggest and absolutely most delicious I've ever had, and I've had a few! Three each was more than enough, and the oyster-y flavours shone through the cooking even though I usually only like to eat them natural. We then had local chicken and eggplant, which was beautiful and vinegary (could be more spicy?) and steamed fish with vegetables and ginger. All incredible flavours. Finished off with Tasmanian strawberries and ice cream and walked out SO happy. The only disappointment was that the scallops and prawns were from Queensland (even though we thought it was scallop season in Tasmania and wanted to eat more of those) but thankfully the menu was honest. Staff were wonderful and it was a really busy night! Totally recommended. Also, they do take away (same meals) which is much cheaper.
We were not expecting this! Really excellent food; the schezwan soup was amazing; so many subtle flavours; cashew chicken and an amazing mushroom dish rounded out the mains.. Yummmm! The service was terrific; our waiter was terrific. Would love it if this was our local!

Best Chinese I've ever had, wontons were steamed to perfection, duck was cooked beautifully. I'd move to Launceston just to eat here. Their Chocolate Pudding is Devine!.
Meh. Really didn't stand up to some of the reviews here. A bit overpriced (actually some of the dishes ridiculously so) for the quality. As for Brett aboves recommendation on the dumplings? Dude needs to visit Melbourne as we found the dumpling assortment to be below the standard of an average cheap an cheerful. Pan fried squid with spicy salt was also a pretty ordinary dish, decent but on par with most Vietnamese places around Australia. Highlight of the meal was the mount buddha chicken- nice and garlicky with awesome skin. All up, good service and decent meal, but nothing here to knock your socks off except for the bill.
What a little beauty! Hidden in provincial Launceston is a gold mine of flavours! Restaurant appearance is no different than any other local Chinese, but there the similarities end. Graceful service, crisp linen table cloths, OUTSTANDING wine list. Duck San Choy bow magnificent, crab dumplings with rice wine vinegar very tasty. Szechuan chilli eye fillets, honey king prawns and the squid with five spiced salt remarkable. Ably washed down with a bay of fires Pinot noir. Faultless. As good as it gets. Flavours complex and layered. 10/10.
It lives up to its reputation. The braised abalone was the best I've tasted, the wagyu beef stir fry was sublime and the crayfish and tofu broth mouthwatering
Mouthwatering.... The dumplings here are unparalleled in Australia. They really are full of flavour.
Although my partner did feel that we were probably charged a little more than the food was worth, the service at Me Wah does shine. This place is a jewel in Launceston's crown.
The ambience of this place makes you feel as if you are in China, even though I have never visited China. I loved the gorgeous paintings, the embellishments, the humble and friendly waiting staff, and the authentic food. Everything here is mindfully curated to elevate your experience. The soup was heart-warming, the lettuce chicken cups were really flavourful bombs, the steamed seafood was simple yet satisfying, and the chicken with meat fried rice was simply scrumptious! This place is expensive, but if you look at the experience as a whole in Launceston, it is indeed really good!
Coming from Melbourne, I’ve been to many of these classic, suburban Chinese restaurants, and this was certainly up there in some of the best.
Service was top notch and a big selection on the menu. A nice surprise to see a dedicated vegetarian section with a lot of choice apart from the typically bean curd and vegetables.
Wine list was also extensive, with a $15,000 bottle of French wine, if you’re in the mood for that…
All our food was delicious, and the fried ice cream for desert really topped our meal off!
Wow - simply incredible food and service.
My husband and I shared everything and it was all excellent. For starters we had the peking duck pancakes (filled with LOTS of duck - very generous and incredibly succulent and tasty) and the Char Siu (roasted sliced tenderloins of Scottsdale pork, honeyed soya, maltose, candied walnuts - such a wonderful combination of flavours).
Our main course was the mount buddha chicken (deboned oven roasted chicken fillets with diced coriander, fresh chilli, garlic & ginger in vinegar dressing, garnished with strips of sugar coated baby bok choy leaves - which was delicious and enjoyed with plain rice) and gai larn (Chinese broccoli wok tossed with ginger garlic purée and a little chilli).
Yum, yum, yum ! We left with full bellies after a wonderful evening.
I should mention the peking duck pancakes and mount buddha chicken came already portioned so my husband and I had our own dishes - sensational and very thoughtful.
Our waitress, Jasmine, was extremely attentive and professional. And of course, Stanley is a brilliant maitre-de flitting between all the tables and ensuring everything was perfect for all. Drinks were well priced and we enjoyed a Leeuwin Estate riesling.
Well priced with 5-star quality. Service is great and food is absolutely amazing, easily the best we’ve ever had in Australia.
Exceptional service, the food was incredibly flavoursome and cooked to perfection. Dessert was just mouth watering. Just an all round amazing experience. Cannot wait to go back
One of the highlights of our Tasmanian trip and definitely the best restaurant experience we had in Tasmania! The service is impeccable (one of the very best any where) and the food is so tasty and fresh! Be sure to make reservation though as they seem to get pretty busy even on a weekday night. Will be back!
Wow what a gem. Delicious fine Cantonese cuisine with perfect service. The manager was very professional yet warm in his approach. Wait staff also superb.
Enjoyed the duck pancakes, an intriguing sweet yet savoury roasted/steamed dish called Buddha Chicken and soup dumplings. Decent winelist. Lovely ambience and glass art decorations. Easy parking too. Must return again. Highly recommend.
Excellent customer service . Extremely well dressed staff . Extremely well presented venue. Staff were very attentive and professional. The truffle mushroom was the highlight of the evening . Thankyou very much for farewelling us at the door
