We had a lovely evening at Mud Bar. The Vietnamese inspired dressing on the oysters was amazing and the highlight of the evening. Every dish was tasty and well presented. The wine list, ambiance and service was also good. Highly recommend when visiting Launceston.
Beautiful desserts and drinks!!
My partner and I visited this restaurant with a group of friends whilst visiting Launceston. The service was impeccable - the staff are so friendly and attentive! The food was also delicious, we all loved each course we had. We also had a variety of drinks which were all enjoyed! We come from all over Australia and agreed if we are back in town this is a must visit! Absolutely loved the atmosphere and staff.
Amazing. The food was faultless, and the staff were spot on. Food is reasonably priced for fine dining. I travel a lot for work and dine regularly, couldn't be happier with tonight's meal. Will be back here next time I'm in town.

“Just keep Mudbar in the back of your mind,” my newfound Tasmanian friend advised, as we bonded at a Taste of Tasmania dinner. We were discussing my impending visit to Launceston, and whether I should dine at picturesque, nineteen-year stalwart, Stillwater, or the city's more recent newcomer, Grain of the Silos restaurant with former Sydney chef, Massimo Mele, at the helm. Reading menus as took a winding route between Hobart and Launceston, their words echoed in my head, encouraging me to change my reservation(s). Located at the Old Launceston Seaport Marina - a sixty-berth marina that was transplanted from Rushcutters Bay after being constructed as The Olympic Yachting Centre for the 2000 Summer Olympics - the restaurant sits at the base of the Peppers Seaport Hotel. While the architecture isn’t anything remarkable, the...
Food on Point
I came here with the family for a nice lunch celebration.
A lovely clean restaurant in a beautiful part of Launceston.
I ordered the duck main and it was delicious. Cooked perfectly and well balanced flavours.
The service was decent but was never asked for a second drink.
A little pricey for lunch but a good experience none the less.
Thanks for a nice lunch
What a lovely restaurant and we love their recommendations in food and wine pairing. Will definitely miss the fantastic apple upside down!!!
Had a lovely time there, nice on the river pier. Staff were lovely and very helpful!
Oysters were very average and so were the entrees (we had Japanese sashimi) not quite worth what you’re paying. However made up for it in the mains which were spectacular!!! Altogether a lovely location and great food! Would recommend!!
Mixed oyster plate ( chilli and ginger combo) was superb. Was struggling to decide between a Sauvignon blanc & an unusual Rosé to accompany the oysters, and was generously offered a taste of each to help me decide! How kind and gracious. Duck tacos on lunch menu were fresh, tasty with good flavour combos. Service was friendly and helpful, but this is Tasmania so expect a gentle pace. Slightly short-staffed during a busy lunch, but restaurants overheads and margins make this an almost universal experience in Australia.
One of those really great experiences. A restaurant bu the water and some amazingly fresh oysters. One of those restaurants that are perfect for a special occasion.
Warm welcome. Great staff. Our waitress Hana was an absolute star.
My salmon loin dish seemed a bit confused with the kimchi, aubergine tapenade & mango mint salsa.
Salmon was perfectly cooked. Great dish if you enjoy the kick from the kimchi.
Husbands meal made for a very happy diner! Flathead with ricotta gnocchi was a brilliant combination of flavours.
Amazing wine & drinks list. Great coffee.
A great introduction to Tasmanian fine cuisine. So much local produce available from salty fresh Barilla Bay oysters to kingfish sashimi. 90 degree Wagyu beef was sensational. Lamb shoulder melted in the mouth and a side order of veg not required. Attentive staff and a friendly atmosphere added to the experience. Well recommended. I'll have to come back for lunch to see the view.
My colleague recommended this waterfront restaurant at Launceston and he raved about how good their oysters are!
As my partner is not a oyster fan, we only ordered half a dozen of Mirin tempura battered oysters to share as entree.
The oysters were so fresh and delicious, a clear winner that night as even my partner enjoyed it! For main, we ordered the duckling and pork loin. Wait staff were very attentive and friendly throughout the night, keep filling up our water and asked for feedback on the food. To finish the night, we ordered the butternut pumpkin/vanilla bean brulee with sticky pear shaved Lindt to share. Whilst food presentation is good and portion is quite good, the Asian inspired menu didn't quite hit the mark for me in terms of flavours. The duck is too salty and the pork is lacking in flavours. Dessert is a bit too sweet. They need to work on balancing the Asian flavours on their menu.
I came here for drinks in the afternoon - really nice place next to the water. Quiet and peaceful. I stayed for an early dinner. As the kitchen wouldn't start serving dinner until 6pm, and it was 5:40pm, I ordered food off the bar menu. Many of the dishes are similar to the dinner and lunch menu.
Highlights:
Oysters with seaweed and ginger - just awesome. Get a dozen and share, and you might be tempted to order another dozen. The sweet seaweed and tangy ginger complement the slight saltiness of the Barilla Bay oysters.
Lamb ribs with miso - nicely grilled, with a gentle miso flavour. They were a little fatty, hence why lamb ribs are not as popular as pork or beef ribs. The wasabi asian slaw served with it was also quite special.
Sashimi trio - of trevalla fish, beef, and something else, was just divine! So fresh and juicy.
Food here isn't cheap, but the quality is high and the asian-fusion invention is amazing. Lunch mains look good value at $20 to $30, whilst dinner mains are $30 to $50. Different menus for each.
Quite a nice restaurant at the water front of Launceston. We happened to come as a Chinese one just closed. All the dish we ordered was decently presented and tasting well. The cheese plate is awesome and they served very best blue cheese that I ever had!!
Came here for lunch, ordered the salt & pepper calamari and the seafood omelette with a side of fries to share.
Wow! The taste explosion in our mouths from both mains was delicious. The spicy sweet chilli sauce served with the calamari was wonderfully complimented by the side salad. The fluffy omelette was filled with seafood and topped with a fresh sensational salad.
A side serve if crisp fries along with a half pint if the local brew (James Boag XXX) finished shed tour meal beautifully. Highly recommend!
P.S service was terrific
Had wanted to dine at Black Cow, but the restaurant was full for the night. Nevertheless we had a Lovely dinner recommended by the hotel staff. The lamb dish was fantastic, meat was soft and flavourful. Beef was fantastic and the staff were friendly too.
Popped into Mud for a light lunch on the spur of the moment, had no knowledge of the venue.
Really impressed, great venue, good surrounds, exceptional service from Peter very professional!
Food was very good, duck was exceptional, seafood tasting plate also very good, gal ours were Asian inspired and soooo tasty!
Wine list was solid but expensive. A Joesph Chromy Sav was $56.
But all over I would definitely recommend Mud!!
Well done to all concern.
We went there for oysters and ended up ordering 3 dozens To share between 2 people! Loved the different flavours and the service was good! We will definitely be back!
We had a group of 4, arrived early and had some drinks in the bar. Had some nice beers and a few cocktails. Went to our booking at 8pm and everything from there was fantastic. So many amazing dishes from the lamb ribs, rabbit gyoza with mushrooms and twice cooked chicken. Every dish we had was top notch. Had a chat to the bar guy who was nice and our waiter was exceptional recommending dishes and drinks. The night was not cheap but was definitely worth it and would recommend Mudbar to anyone visiting Tasmania.
Mud has a beautiful location in the seaport, the restaurant is trendy , and while full you can still talk to your friends without having to shout.
We had a variety of different meals , and the waiter / waitresses were helpful and happy to answer our questions about the foods patiently. The food was balanced and delicious. When one of our table accidentally spilled their meal the staff were more than helpful and replaced it.
My only negative is that for the price $38+ for a main the meals are small. But if that is something you can afford it leaves room to enjoy entree & dessert !
I had the flathead tail & tapioca pudding :)
Great location, great food and exceptional service. Highly recommended is expensive but was too be expected. The chocolate parfait was amazing
Fantastic great service, food and wine. Visiting from Melbourne, and we came across Mud bar, from the minuet we walked in we felt welcome in the warm atmosphere.
The staff where great very efficient and friendly.
The food was great and some of the best we have had loved it that it was local Tasmanian produce.
We will be back a++

I was overcome with sadness when I ate my last mouthful of the prawn and salmon fritters with the delicious salad- yum!!! The mains were equally as good. The perfect way to end our honeymoon.
Great atmosphere and location, have spent a few long afternoons here, however was disappointed with yesterday's visit, we ordered the Mud Fries with garlic aioli, a bowl of fried skin on potatoes came out, about the size of the palm of your hand so probably at best 2 medium sized potatoes , which weren't cooked that well, and which cost $8.50. Basically a rip off. Wedges / fries anywhere else for the same price gets you a decent amount for two, you would need 3 of these in comparison... Also felt that $20 for 6 oysters is overpriced in anyone's language....
One word - delicious.. Amazing food, eat here every time I visit Launceston. So tasty and complex. Love it and highly recommend.
Lovely, lovely, lovely ... Great atmosphere, stylish decor, exceptionally good service and great food ... What's not to like on a Monday evening with friend visiting from Melbourne! Thanks all.
Just perfect. Do yourself a huge favour and dine here especially if you are visiting Launceston. Superb food, wine, beer, service and everything!! Could not fault a thing! This kind of experience is heart warming. And I had the best mocktail ever - ginger ale, ice, lime, mint and sugar syrup. The kind bar person even gave me the recipe on a handwritten note. An exceptional couple of hours. :-)
Excellent food. Service was great - Carrie is a champion! The food style was exceptionally unique - well done to the chefs. Pinot Gris was top notch and cleansing Saison finished the night on a high note in a lounge in the bar area. Well done guys! Janet & Michael

Delicous Slow Cooled Lamb. Worth the reservation.
Love the tiramisu so much!
Nice meal , pleasant decor & good wine & beer list . Good for a casual night out .
We had a work get together. .... We had a work get together.
I was very pleased with the wine service added to the food service . Offered fresh glasses. Meals all together . No one unhappy with meals. In fact lots of wow factor
Booked a very last minute table booking which they were very accommodating. Service was excellent, friendly and genuine!! Food was amazing!! Def a go!
Impressive! Went here last night and was amazed at the standard of food. Try the slow roasted lamb ribs and the Italian meatballs for entree. To die for. Location is brilliant (even better if you're staying at Peppers Seaport)! Mains and deserts were great too. Try the smashed meringue with berries and cream. Great wine and beer list. Try the Angry Man Pale Ale or the Wicked Elf Pale Ale! And the coffee is brilliant - try the Piccolo Latte! This place is highly recommended. Will definitely come back again. The service was generally ok too. Try it, we think you'll love it!
Classy restaurant overlooking the water. The food was tasty and servings were adequate. Service was of a high standard. Definitely one of the higher standard eateries in Launceston.
Good creamy coffee after a Sunday session at the pub. Would have had the desserts as I know they're good but was too full. Can't wait to be back.
Why can't others be as good?. Setting pleasant bright and well lit, music not intrusive, service personal, oysters to kill for, pork belly done to a T, blue grenadier faultless, wine list medium sized but exciting. I wish I lived in Launceston.
The Mud Restaurant & Bar is located on the best site on the wharf at The popular Seaport Marina. The building is purpose built, ultra modern, the designer has created a great flow from bar, casual, private, to group dining, and lounge area's to relax, the flow continues through to a very large covered Al fresco area. The decor, ultra modern, very trendy, with the outstanding feature being, replica Eames chairs in bright orange, oh so comfortable. The architect has enabled the view of the Tamar, wharf, assorted boats, distant hills to be viewed from all points inside and out. From an excellent menu plus specials, our entree's were, Pressed lamb, gribiche sauce, grilled ciabatta. Unusual, delicate, and surprisingly tasty; Blue eye fish cakes, with fennel and aolia, rocket and lemon. Delicate and flavorsome. Mains: Pan fried gnocchi, braised lamb, tomato, olives, Parmesan. Quite hot, spicy and appetizing. One of their most popular dishes; From the specials board, Grilled lamb rump 200 gram, fresh from Landfall, a local farm. with crisp roast potatoes, steamed green beans and a ratatouille. fabulous dish, prepared to perfection, and of a generous proportion. We tasted the Smolt Pinot Noir, a very good Pinot. Also a New-Zealand Otago Jacks Skip Sauvignon Blanc. Excellent. The service was professional and friendly. This may not be fine dining, but certainly upmarket casual at it's best. Impressive.
Excellent food!. Mud's food is really delicious. A combination of fresh ingredients and superb cooking. I definitely look forward to going back whenever I am in Launceston.
Great lunch by the water. Mud is one of a few options at Launceston's Seaport precinct overlooking the water. It proved to be a great lunch spot during our weekend getaway. My mussel soup with saffron and tomato was tasty and fresh. Husband had crunchy fish and chips. Their rice custard with sticky date caramel was creamy and decadent. Friendly service.
Hotel restaurants often disappoint. Not this one though. The menu is imaginative and food is fantastic. The staff are attentive and friendly. Overall a great experience for business or pleasure. This is my fourth such experience here and will definately recommend.
A big surprise. First impressions were average but that changed when the food arrived. My seafood linguine was superb with plenty of seafood and the semifreddo was also great.
I couldn't fault the service either. I'll be back next time I visit Launceston.
Good coffee & quality food
Enjoyed the food and thought the service was very solid. But what was with all the music pumping through the restaurant part of the facility?
Had an awesome duck risotto for mains and the entrees were fantastic too, Grilled zucchini and labna salad and a salumi plate with home made pickled veg and grilled ciabatta. 8/10
Lovely experience. Staff were very friendly and approachable. Food was delicious, and chefs were very accommodating to dietary requirements. Good serving sizes and well-made drinks. Nice range of options across the menu. Definitely worth a visit when in Launceston!
Excellent service! We were greeted at the door by a super friendly guy who took us to a table. Food was good- we both had tempura. Carrots were delicious! Great location. Was nice to go for a walk around Southport after eating. Cool atmosphere at the Mudbar.
It's not often I visit a restaunt everything is perfect. The location is perfect for a beautiful evening meal and drinks.
The lovely waitress who served us was fast on her feet, knew the specials by heart and was extremely professional and friendly.
The food was fast and delicious with a heavy Asain inspiration to many of their dishes, the pork belly starter was tender, juicy and flavourful so the soy duck main dish, the overall presentation of every dish was beautiful and each of my companions loved their food.
Finally they have a large, well stocked bar with many cocktails and a large range of wines and other beverages.
I would honestly fly from my home in Queensland all the way to Launceston just to eat here again.
Just a quick lunch at bar rather than restaurant. Food was beautiful, prices were reasonable and drinks were the good ones 😋. The staff were delightful
Really like this place! Live music, great atmosphere and a good front bar menu! Great place to relax and unwind on a Sunday afternoon.
