Great pizza place and good price. The home made pasta dishes are fantastic especially the Lasagna. A real family business and what you see is what you get. Have been going here for years.
Wowie this was like a blast from the past! I used to come here 15 years ago, and literally nothing had changed right down to the same woman making the pizzas. It's a bit dark and dingy, but it's comfortable and the juke box was churning out some good tunes. Definitely an old school sort of venue, but charming in its own way.
We picked up three pastas tonight, and got given a free garlic pizza with it. Everyone really enjoyed their meals. Nothing fancy, just tasty pasta. And great value too, $36 for the lot. We had ravioli bolognese, fettuccine pescatore and carbonara. Lady was a bit brusque over the phone, but she's clearly busy all the time. She was friendly enough in person.
We'll definitely come back here again, it's definitely a local institution!
Nice little family restaurant and very well priced. Recommend if you are after some Italian and in the area! Also recommend the garlic and cheese pizza!
Best pasta and pizzas in Melbourne. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Nothing is too much trouble for them (within reason). Well worth a visit.
Have been coming to Al pesto for years and the food is always good. The pizza is authenic italian style and gnocchi pesto is my favourite.
Staff are friendly. If you want a beautiful cheap meal for the family Al Pesto is the place to go.😊
A cheap and cheerful family run restaurant. Does brilliant pizza and pasta, BYO too! Very satisfying serves for a very good price. Perfect for an easy family Friday night meal. Had a great time and will definitely go back to eat in or take away.
Awesome. Great food, great owners/workers. Good to sit down and have a chat after a long day at work. Highly recommend for decently priced delicious pizza!
Brilliant! Back to basic style. The food is delicious and authentic Italian and the decor is retro with a friendly and down to earth atmosphere for which my partner and I keep coming back. We drive from Altona to Al Pesto in Aircraft simply because we are always guaranteed a cheap and awesome feed; we are treated to 2 medium (but seemingly large) sized pizzas only paying $25 in total! No where in Altona pier street can you find this! The chef is a wonderful character who always makes her customers feel welcome while also managing to feed a steady flow of people coming in with no trouble at all....the wait staff are hilarious and have great warm personalities - the bonus here is that you can bring your own alcohol and store it in the fridge provided and then put money in the juke box and listen to great tunes! Each time I come here it feels like i have walked into one of those great pizza shops from my childhood ...We highly recommend this place for singles, couples or families! There are no frills or false smiles about this place - another reason why we will continue to come here again and again!!

Best pasta in town, great pizza and service with a smile :-)
Great friendly staff and food. what more can you ask from a restaurant?! Love it!! Highly recommended.
The best Italian resto in Melb with comfy place, friendly people and of course great food.
Die die must try their famous Prawn Crepes (also order Garlic bread to eat with its sauce).
Have been regulars here for years. Great food, great prices & the owners feel like family. Love love love coming here
A favorite place to eat and visit from back in my high-school days and particularly when I just work down the road at the Laverton Skate Centre. Small Capricosa with Anchovies for $5! And still is nearly 12 years later. I enjoy the family discussions and beautiful taste of their pizzas, so soft and juicy. I have never found a pizza place that tips this one.
Good vibe, good food, fabulous staff and service!!!!
I've been going here since a teenager and fifteen years later I still love the place. The pizzas are light and tasty but the real star of the show is their Prawn Crepe, mouth waters just typing this, and the garlic cheese pizza makes a perfect side. The family that run it are hardworking, friendly people who make you feel like family when you turn up. Very kid friendly, i never feel bad about my 2 year olds noise or mess. Excellent value and BYO.
Fantastic food. Authentic Italian the way it should be! After hearing so many positive reviews about this place, thought we'd try it ourselves and certainly not disappointed! This will now be our pizza/pasta place of choice for sure. The quality of food is second to none and the service is friendly & fun and very much a family atmosphere. These people know what their doing when it comes to Italian fare. What can i say.....Yum, yum, yum! You'll see us again very soon. Thanks for a wonderful Italian experience.
I've been eating here on and off for more than 10 years and nothing has changed; the prices are still the same and so is the food (which is always excellent) Don't judge a book by it's cover and do your taste buds (and wallet) a favour, give this place a go.
Fantastic Food-Great Fun. Would you ever believe that I have found the best Pizza's in Melbourne in a little Restaurant in Laverton???. A mate of mine works at the real estate agent Ray White a couple of doors up and a few months ago we had lunch here,I have now been back 4 times it is that good. The owner is a wonderful host and the thin crust Pizza is really great? My wife is Italian so I will be bringing her here with the kids on the weekend.A great little find for me.
Looks can be deceiving. What looks like a standard pizza resteraunt in Laverton is much much more.
The food is prepared in traditional style, pasta is exquisite and the pizza are as pizza's should be.
A family business, our family has been going weekly for over 5 years and will continue to do so for many a long year.
Great place very happy!!!!. Great place to eat...food is fantastic and the service second to none.
b.y.o alcohol with no corking fee, brilliant atmosphere with plenty of space, bring
the whole family or eat alone, the facilities are more than accommodating for people of all
ages and sizes. Taking all things into consideration including food the friendly service and the
warm "mamas kitchen" feel, I give this place an 8 out of 10 and I strongly
recommend anyone passing through the Laverton area to give Al Pesto a go.
I guarantee you will not be disappointed!!
Love It. I've eaten here several times and love it. Yes the service can be slow - yes it's unusual - yes it's dated - but the food is good, honest, wholesome food and is great value for money. The jukebox is great. Booking on a Saturday night is advisable. As one other poster said, try it - even if you don't love it, it won't have cost you the earth and like me, you might just have found a hidden gem.
My favourite pasta in the west! Cannot beat their aviation pasta with penne! I get it every time! Cheap easy quick meals dine in or can call and pick up. Also make very yummy garlic focaccia fold over pizza type things! Worth the visit
LOVE IT! All the staff are nice and friendly, very homey atmosphere. They make the best garlic prawn in town and the most generous size of pizza you can find around the area. People said they have to wait, but I'd say it worths the wait. You can't get a better deal than Al Pesto.
Love it. Great Place for cheap eat, nice and casual, great friendly staff and great food, highly recommend. Had a great time and enjoyed the cool breeze, nice food, and jukebox.
The place is nothing special to look at, its old school that's for sure. The food is cheap & hearty. We ate pasta (Carbonara & Amatricana + small garlic & cheese focaccia). Serving sizes are generous - we thought they gave us the wrong size focaccia as it was huge. It's not top of the town kind of stuff but it's great. We will definitely be back & look forward to trying a pizza next time as they look & smell amazing. The restaurant was almost full by the time we left & the lady cooking the pizzas non stop told us that if we came in on a Friday or Saturday night that we'd probably have to wait. 1 old lady cooking the pastas & another lady cooking the pizzas - both don't rest. Try it, it wont cost the world even if you don't like it.
Best pizza and pasta in the west. The food and service at al pesto are terrific have been going to pesto for 3 years since having moved to the area the pizzas are excellent and the servings of the dine in meals are terrific and Ali and the family make you feel welcome and make you feel like youre one of the family and the atmosphere is always great, there, the food is terrific and always fresh would rather dine or get takeaway at pesto than go to any other pizza and pasta place in the western suburbs and also being able to byo bottle of wine, love al pesto food and will be a loyal customer hopefully for many years to come
Homestyle value. I started coming to Al Pesto a few months ago and now I eat there once every week. The food is delicious, the servings are generous, the value is excellent, and the staff greet me like an old friend every time I walk through the door. What more could you want?
I don't believe it! There's a juke box in here & someone's put on the sex pistols!! This is true Laverton. B4 the gentrification filtering in from Sanctury Covebetc. It's rough. The staffare also !! Could be 3 generations fluffing about here! I love it. Come and see a portal of the past. It's shocking. Can b some great food - seafood etc (depending on who's cooking) it can be very very rough. But please don't sneer, this is a closing window in a unique by gone era. It's so local. So, battling, tough/rough Laverton. Sterility and sameness are taking over! Come and see the real thing (apol's to Russell Morris)
Authentic Traditional Pasta. I was really surprised at the quality of the food in this unassuming restaurant. I've live in the area for two years but never dined here because it looked more like a cheap pizzeria than a restaurant.
We bought the pasta trio for $20 and were warned that it was a large meal - they weren't exaggerating! A HUGE plate that almost filled the table was presented to us. The pasta (freshly made) was amongst the best I've had - a creamy fettuccine carbonara, tasty spaghetti bolognese, and the crowning pasta was their self-styled 'linguine aviation' (mushrooms, cream, bacon, tomato).
The atmosphere is homely and very relaxed. It is obviously a family restaurant. The kitchen is completely exposed giving the feeling of being invited around to an Italian friend's house while 'Mama' cooks you some food.
What surprised me was that when I mentioned I'd be bringing the kids in that night, they said I could bring my own 2L bottles of soft drink! I've never heard of a restaurant give the green light to drinks not bought there.
Excellent value for money and truly excellent traditional pasta.
