i had "teriyaki salmon and gyoza bento box" salmon was done beautifully, gyoza was crispy outside, full of meat & veg juice inside(its meant to be!!) delicious!

A go-to Japanese restaurant for more casual nights out or even takeaway. Menu caters to many different styles of Japanese dining (sushi, sashimi, sukiyaki, cooked dishes, bento etc.) – never been disappointed with the food or service.
Although a little pricey, Mon continues to be a great place to dine. Their availability on UberEats along with free delivery from time to time make them the perfect place to buy lunch. The meat is fresh, and the food is warm.
Went for lunch, $12 for main, rice and salad. It was the nicest meal I have a had in a very long time. The mayonnaise on the side is a game changer!
My new favourite place. Good quality, home style Japanese food. It’s not super cheap, but serves are generous and standards are high. I’ve been a few times and had takeaway as well. Gyoza: tender and delicately flavoured; teriyaki chicken: great quality, heaps of chicken; teriyaki beef: tender and salty; sashimi: firm and fresh as hell. Getting take out can be hard because these guys don’t always answer their phone - cos they are often very busy! So head down and try to get a table.
Dined here with 3 friends on Thursday before Easter weekend. Food was delicious! I chose the bento; gyoza were delicate and delicious, sashimi was high standard - fresh and velvety, chicken karaage was tasty but lost its crunch, miso soup was good. Great service. Glad that this place was BYO too.
I ordered the gyoza bento set that comes with salmon teriyaki, miso soup and a drink. Good value at $20. Food was delicious! I will go back again to try something else on their menu! 🥰
What a great find! Cosy little place with nothing that I could fault. The food was delicious, we tried a mixture of sashimi, takoyaki, teriyaki beef and chicken katsu. Was fantastic that the chicken and beef came with their own serving of fresh salad and bowl of rice. Sushimi was very fresh and included scallop which was a first for me! Staff were extremely friendly and service was super quick! Priced well for what it is! Don’t give this place a miss if you’re in the area!
Lives up to its taste reputation. They’re busy and you often need to book. I went with a group of friends we tried a big variety of menu options and everything was delicious. Everything.
Visited this small, casual Japanese cafe for a mid week dinner recently. Ordered the endamame & Lotus chips starters (both good), the Salmon and avocado sushi (nice), miso Eggplant (quite good), chicken Karrage (a bit average, least favourite), the teriyaki chicken (average) and the vegetable gyoza (nice). Food came out at a good pace, staff were friendly and the food quality was decent, as was the price. Good for a casual Japanese meal.
The best treating Japanese food I've had the pleasure of eating in Perth. It has a wonderful atmosphere worth very friendly staff. I was very surprised at the very reasonable prices.
Nice food and cosy atmosphere here. The peach liquor is lovely and something refreshingly different to enjoy. On my last visit here I ordered the vegetarian bento box and this was quite nice despite having no meat (as expected!). Lovely service too.

I go here almost every Friday for takeaway and they always look after me well.
One time they forgot to put the salad with my meal and the next time I went there they remembered and gave me two salads.
Everything I have tried here has been tasty and I would recommend if you're looking for a good Japanese restaurant in the Leederville area.
We had their $60 omakase Thursday special. Overall was pretty good, highlights were the seasoned rice and the sashimi, lowlights for me were the dessert (nice, but too sweet for my tastes) and the crab butter with mushrooms in the zensai course. Neither were objectively bad, but were things I didn't like. Service was friendly and verging on too fast - could have done with slightly longer between some of the courses.
For shochu's sake... This place had the highest quality shochu (Japanese spirit made with sweet potato).The delicate taste of Moriizou Honkaku was insanely good! We were lucky to be there that night because the bottles are not easy to obtain. My friend and I were there to enjoy a quality catch up and we certainly did that! Loved the salt bush tempura, perfect Aussie Japanese fusion. Despite being extremely busy food and drinks came out very quickly. Super friendly service, and Japanese staff serving so I had a chance to brush up on my rusty Japanese! Food was divine. Scallops were fresh and 美味しい. Would definitely go back. If you don't live in Leederville it's worth the drive, but make sure you book first! So happy! うれしい😆

A little quaint restaurant tucked in between bustling pubs in Leederville. Highly satisfied with the service. Staff are friendly and approachable with a smile. We ordered the sukiyaki for 1 person. It was excellent. Take note, You do need to add extra to get noodles in your sukiyaki. Had chicken karaage which was very light and crispy. We also ordered the Ten Don which had tempura prawns and vegetables. Everything that was deep fried came out crispy as! Very impressed...

Not only that but it was all very affordable and came with a drink of my choice that was free of charge. The food was served not long after I ordered it. Very impressed. A surprisingly awesome find. Small little Japanese happiness. Fun attentive staff, clean crisp decor. The food itself was fantastic. Japanese can be very hit and miss however this place was on point. Most important with seafood is freshness and this was just that!!! Oh and the lotus chips 👍

Busy little spot. All tables were filled on a weeknight with lots of takeaway business too. The service was friendly and we all got free tea when they forgot to bring two of us tea. Food we ordered was small share plates. Good food at reasonable prices. The aircon and fans weren't really enough for the hot night we went on but otherwise was a good night.
We've been here a number of times and love it! The service is amazing even when they're busy, the food is fresh (love their salmon sushi rolls), very generous (we love their sashimi board), very tasty (omg everything!) and very reasonably priced (all of them!). I cant recommend them highly enough.
A small, busy and authentic little piece of Japan. We started with Asahi beer, edamame and lotus chips, moving to sashimi, tempura and an excellent agedashi tofu. My friends said the sashimi and katsu don were very moreish. The miso eggplant was one of the best I've ever had - wish I could have eaten more, but there was gyoza and korokke to be had, and my friends enjoyed the soft shell crab rolls (well, my friends were very quiet and the rolls disappeared very quickly). The service was attentive, fast and unobtrusive. I am definitely going back very soon.

Never fails to deliver a tasty lunch - the tofu teriyaki mon set ($13) is my go-to dish and I will get it nearly every time (boring yes, but it's delicious, satisfying and comes with rice, miso and a side to fill me up)!
Mon have done well to lure customers in with all the great options around - their well priced and yum food will keep people coming back.
Went there last night and food was delicious, reasonably priced and staff attentive. Would recommend the lotus chips, gyoza to start, then beef teriyaki and chicken katsu curry.
I come here consistently for lunch, service is quick and food is delicious. The place is pretty much always packed, but they still have my takeaway ready in under ten minutes.
After Pinchos was completely full, we went to Mon Taste of Japan for dinner. The service was good, the food came out reasonably quickly. We ordered the Mon Bento which was $32, pretty good value for money. It came with a choice of main (chicken terriaki for me!), rice, potato croquette and sashimi. It was a good meal, the chicken was tender and sauced well. The croquette was crispy and battered well. The sashimi was fresh and sliced thinly! It was a good meal.

Set is probably the best value for money if you are very hungry. Everything else taste pretty good. So you probably won't go wrong with any dishes.

We came here with two of our friends for dinner one night. The service was good, I ordered a bento box and my partner got the Sukiyaki with added udon which was quite impressive it came out on a little burner bubbling away - great photo opportunity! The bento box was nice and the food had good flavours, our friends enjoyed their bento boxes too - one is half Japanese and they have been to Japan. All in all a good experience! #goodfoodofperth
Very fast service and reasonably priced. You can select a heap of entrees which are more or less like Japanese tapas. The teriyaki chicken skewers were grilled to perfection and we enjoyed the wasabi mayo with the soft shell crab.
We strolled into Mon at about 7pm on a Thursday night and had no difficulty getting a table. Staff were really friendly and I was very impressed with my sushi – beautiful quality avocado and the teriyaki chicken was extremely moist and tasteful (which is not all that common). At around $17, it is not the cheapest sushi going around but I really enjoyed my experience at Mon and I’ll definitely be returning.

I love sashimi, and every time I've ordered sashimi here I've never been disappointed. The seafood is fresh, and the salads are crunchy with a good balance of flavours. Will attempt to go for dinner so I can finally try the sake selection.

I like this place for cheap and cheerful good quality Japanese food in Perth. Its great that you can BYO and sit outside and watch the passing parade. I've been a number of times for lunch and dinner and found all the food to be delicious.
After coffee nearby we decided to grab a bite, figure Japanese is the best to go, filling but quite light. Loved the ambience, friendly staff and pleasant service. Didn't have to wait for long for our food and everything was superb.
We went for a sake tasting with paired dinner. Was absolutely amazing! I tried things I would never have dreamed of and really enjoyed the experience. Things I had disliked from other places were also very tasty here.
Delicious but a bit more than average priced for the serving size!! However there are not many places that do sukiyaki in Perth. Service was very friendly
Came here on Saturday night before an exhibition down the road, mainly because everywhere else was packed. I had the mixed sashimi (for 1-2 people), rice and miso, and some brown rice green tea. The sashimi was fresh and delicious and the miso some of the tastiest I've had of late. Great service, our water was kept full.
Really authentic Japanese food. Tried the kaarage, sashimi and the sukiyaki and they were all really delicious. On top of that, very attentive service and the manager was really nice haha. Would definitely recommend! Make sure to try the karaage 🍱🍣
Best Japanese I've found in Perth. Feels like being back in Osaka! Gyoza are so yummy and main dishes are big serves and well priced. Service is fast and friendly. Recommend this great little restaurant!

I come here for lunch nearly everyday, and have been once for dinner. Great food. Try the takoyaki. Just wish their dinner menu was available at lunch. The service is fantastic, they really go out of their way to make sure you're happy. One time they got my order wrong, but I didn't mind. But the chef came out and started giving me $5! I said no, don't worry about it, but he begged me to take it! So apologetic and sweet.
A really underrated place. If you're looking for a really organised, on point and amazing service then your in the wrong place. On the other hand if you're after friendly staff, low prices and quality food then you're in the right place. Never lets me down for a quick feed!

Authentic Japanese Food in Perth. Having lived in Japan for over 17 years, we miss Japanese food so much, but is is hard to find it here. Local Japanese people recommended Kiri to us as the best restaurant in Perth, but it is a bit too expensive. Mon is more affordable and good. The taste is as authentic as it can be in Perth, where Japanese cooking ingredients are too scarce to enable making proper Japanese dishes. Most "Japanese" restaurants here are run by Chinese people, who offer their own version of washoku, so the lack of ingredients is not an issue for them. Local palates are used to that sort of food, naturally. I understand the unhappy reviewers - they expected something different at Mon. In contrast, for us this place is a little bit of japan, which we relish greatly: warm and friendly Japanese service, quickly and freshly prepared authentic dishes, a good representation of izakaya-style dining.
I highly recommend Mon to those diners, who have been to Japan and look for the taste of Japan in Perth.
Nice, little place. I have eaten here over the past two weeks and I enjoyed it each time. We ordered a few items to share. I love the edamame. The takoyaki was nice and I liked the veggie croquettes too. The beef skewers from the specials plate were delicious! The place itself is relaxed. When we were ready to order we would catch one of the waitstaff's attention. For dessert we tried both the green tea and black sesame ice-cream. I prefer the green tea one personally. Good little place for a catch up and a quick bite.
What a delicious meal, staff were extremely polite on both ocassions and the meals were of a quality FAR exceeding the price bracket! Am I still in Perth???

Earlier this year on a trip to Japan I ate more sashimi than I ever thought humanly possible, but the most memorable experience I had was at the Sapporo fish markets in Hokkaido. The quality and presentation of the sashimi that I received at the markets is something I’ve been pining for since returning home... until now.
I ordered the Sashimi ‘Gold’ from MON which in all honesty is the most well-presented and freshest sashimi that I have eaten outside of Japan. The Japanese chef who prepared my meal even took the time to serve me my sashimi and inform me of where each species of fish was sourced from. What was most exciting for me was the fact that the scallops had been fished from the seas of Hokkaido... A nostalgic food moment was taken prior to diving in.
If you appreciate fresh sashimi and impeccable presentation, look no further than MON.
Note; they also provide the far superior freshly grated wasabi root rather than that horrible imitation paste that has become a standard in most Japanese restaurants, blergh!

Fabulous food, an authentic Japanese experience!. I love Japanese food, as do my teenage kids, but I get absolutely fed up with being dragged to the ubiquitous sushi trains and being regularly underwhelmed by the poor food. So after a friend of mine had been to Mon and raved about it, I managed to persuade my family to forego the train, and have some real Japanese food. Our family group consisted of little kids, bigger kids, vegetarians and pescatarians as well as carnivores, so a good mix! And I have to say we were all completely delighted that we had made the break with the train - even the teenagers!
Mon isn't very big, but the food is sensational! The staff are delightful and everyone who works there is Japanese so it gives you a definite authentic feel. As a fish-and-veg person I was more than satisfied with the choices available - the seafood hotpot was delicious, everything in it was so fresh and tasty, but for me the grilled eggplant with miso paste was the winner, I could have just eaten that all night. My partner's favourite was the soft-shelled crab, and the kids loved the sushi rolls (of course - but these are SO much better than the usual fare) and the different grilled skewers. I was also told (by the kids and loudly) that the gyoza (pork dumplings) were to die for. There is a good selection of sake, both cold and hot, all at reasonable prices, but for me nothing beats Sapporo beer with this food, a marriage made in heaven! We all ate too much, it's hard to stop with food like this, but the kids managed to fit in a dollop of green tea ice-cream each, you don't get that with the sushi train!
For those of us that have been to Japan and yearn for the real deal back here, Mon is a genuine slice of Japan transplanted into Leederville, and for us it will be our new Japanese food fix when we feel the need, no more sushi train! Thank you Mon!
So fresh and delicious. Mon's food is not your run of the mill sushi bar fare. It is innovative and even daring and completely delectable! Love the new 'hotpot'' and now it is licensed too, which is great. If Mon was nearby we would be there EVERY week!

MON is Good!. I went to MON last Friday night, the restaurant is small and cozy and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
We ordered the gold sashimi platter, chicken karaage and assorted tempura.
The gold (4 pieces of each) sashimi platter was comprised of a variety of fish, scallop, prawn and octopus. It was beautifully presented and was very fresh and tasty. Though the octopus was abit chewy, it would have been better to serve it in smaller pieces.
The chicken karaage, described by my friend as fancy KFC, came out hot, crispy and flavoursome. It was served with a wasabi mayonaise which was also delicious.
The assorted tempura was abit average though, there were 2 prawns and a variety of vegetables. The eggplant pieces were all stuck together in a big clump and the tempura batter was abit thick for my liking.
Overall I really enjoyed my dining experience at MON.
The restaurant doesn't serve alcohol but the waitress told me they were in the process of getting their liquor license. I'll certainly return to try other items on the menu and bring my own wine next time.
I went to Mon last month. Amazing food. The sashimi platter was really fresh, loved the yakitori especially pork belly with asparagus. I will definitely come back.
Had a very good dinner experience last night. Ordered seafood and grazer boards, they're amazing dishes, not to mentioned the tempura, the best so far I ever had for long time. Definetely will return!

Great meal here last night, the restaurant has been refurbished and it's a cozy space with a great feeling. Had the Japanese tuna nicoise, good dressing & tuna was great. My partner had the soba noodle salad which was knock out. Good staff, v friendly and good value for money.

Authentic + Innovative. Braved the weather in Perth this week to visit Mon Taste of Japan, a new Japanese restaurant in Leederville. Well worthwhile. On a par with many we have visited in Japan. Servings are right sized for Japanese, beautifully presented, and very oishii (tasty!). The menu comprises a range of traditional dishes, as well as contemporary "Chef's innovations". Check it out.
Small place with a good, fresh and clean ambience. Nice and crispy katsu, but could do with larger servings considering the price.
Taste of Japan. Great food, great service. Have good variation of menus with some unique dishes that you can't find in other japanese restaurant. Can't wait to come back and try other dishes..
