Review Capriccio Osteria & Bar - Leichhardt

SRi H. Oetomo
Had a really wonderful time here last night. This place is my most favourite Italian restaurant in Sydney. Every single dish we ordered was amazing and the service was excellent too. Michael was hospitable and have a good knowledge about Italian wines. Can't wait to visit Sydney and dine here again! ♡♡♡

Delicious food with excellent service. I fell in love with the outdoor street dining setting - there were lots of tables outside, music, and good vibes. The pasta was nice and firm and the saffron and mozzarella arancini was a highlight.

Delicious Italian food with a great restaurant ambience! Oysters with the vodka granita & the squid ink pasta were the highlights of the menu. Would definitely recommend bringing family and friends here.

OMG! One of the best Italian food. Fabulous woodfired pizza, pastas and my most favourite oysters, plus wine! Dined here with my best friend last year before lockdown and had the most amazing experience. The food was so delicious that we are keep going back with such a little excuses !! Michele is such a great host , friendly and his crew has it all sorted . Very kind and great service indeed . Highly recommended. 🤩🥳

Incredibly delicious dishes. The woodfire pizza was perfectly cooked with a delicious homemade sauce and fresh toppings. The pumpkin ravioli with hazelnut had excellent complimenting flavours and textures. Not forgetting the focaccia bread and oil which we devoured in a few seconds! Also, I am not much of an alcoholic drinker but their 'Italian Mojito' was so refreshing with their fresh herbs and lime that I ordered two. Lastly, the ambience was nice with the cute feature of their plates having their restaurant logo. Will definitely be back!

Great Woodfired pizza and handmade pasta!!! We had the Salciccia pizza and it was a real standout, I cannot recommend it enough! The pasta was handmade and fresh, you can taste the difference. Staff were very friendly and attentive. We will definitely come again.

Great service, freshly made pasta, I had the fazzaletti with banana prawns, shellfish butter and shallots. While my partner had the ravioli with butternut pumpkin, burnt butter and sage. Both are tasty examples of Italian food cooked with care in a busy kitchen. We started with roasted cauliflower florets on a bed of whipped feta, pine nuts and currants. A tasty way to settle in to a refreshing dinner. Teamed with a bottle of Vermentino from Sardagna, it was well worth the trip. Next time I’ll try one of the wood fired pizzas. A true Norton street restaurant.

Consistently excellent food, service and overall experience. Great atmosphere whether for groups or date night. Best Italian restaurant in the inner west.

Great for a big group! The set menu is delicious and the portions are generous. The waiters were really nice and the atmosphere is fun, so we came away very satisfied.

Recommended delish, sophisticated, fine scrumptious dishes. New pasta with prawns is my favourite atm. Thank you, Micaella👍

My favourite dish was the asparagus which came with a delicious puree and some sort of soft cheese - so flavoursome! The Caprese salad was fresh and lovely as well. We also ordered the ravioli which was tasty but I think the other pastas looked better. I was with a vegetarian so that we the only pasta option we could share! Would return

The menu was lacking of varieties. The pasta was way too overpriced for the portions they served. Besides that, the pasta was difficult to chew and the ambience was packed and not enjoyable at all. We were seated at the top floor and though there was a waiter, he was not doing a good job at all as we tried to get his attention many times but in vain.

I rarely write a review unless I really like or dislike a restaurant.

Got the squid ink spaghetti with crab and the ravioli, booked it with a 50% off discount but it was all very disappointed, would not even come back if I had another 50% deal..
The ravioli arrived soaked in a pool of oil, making everything greasy, the combination of flavours just didn’t work well together, really sweet but also very bland.
The squid ink spaghetti itself had a great texture, sauce was okay but the taste was just not outstanding as it didn’t have much flavour in it.
Both portions were not big but didn’t end up finishing the ravioli and got a takeaway pizza somewhere else anyway.
Did not try their shared plates but would not recommend the pasta :(

The ambience of the restaurant was very nice and relaxing. The food was quite good, nothing mind blowing though. This place would’ve definitely been worth 4 stars if it weren’t for the attitude of the manager at the end of the night when we asked a question about a mistake on our bill. The waitresses were great though.

Most people are of the opinion once you have been to Italy you have had the best Italian though what happens when you bring the Italian to Australia? End result; some really great food. The food as always was the ultimate comfort food and perfect on flavour. I just thoroughly enjoyed dish after dish and cannot wait to return.

I dined here on a Thursday night as part of an organised event (discounted meal). We were fortunate to try a spread of the menu and honestly I couldn't fault any of the dishes we were served. We had the following dishes:
1. Foccacia - served warm with herbs and lightly salted. Works well to mop up the extra goat's curd from dish 2.
2. Beetroot e vodka - just yum! Thinly sliced ocean trout full of flavour with plenty of roe and goat's curd.
3. Wood-fired chicken wings - good flavour and I liked the punch of the sauce and pickles
4. Squid ink spaghetti with blue swimmer crab - one of my favourites. Perfectly cooked handmade pasta with plenty of crab.
5. Spinach and ricotta ravioli - big handmade parcels filled with delicious and flavourful spinach and ricotta in a burnt butter sauce.
6. Duck ragu with gnocchi - my top dish. Pillowy handmade gnocchi, plenty of flavourful rago and freshly grated parmesan
7. Porchetta - something a bit different for me but still enjoyed it. Served with roasted peaches, there was a good balance of salty and sweet.
8. Passionfruit panna cotta - the perfect panna cotta wobble. Creamy texture and plenty of passionfruit flavour. Definitely more for those with a sweet tooth.

We had the house wine with the meal (I had white) and I thought it was lovely.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and experience at Capriccio. I will definitely be back for the $20 pasta and wine special on Tuesdays.

Has become my favourite Italian restaurant in Sydney! The pastas we ordered still make me drool thinking about it. Great flavour and texture!
Do It For The Brunch
A non-Brunch review:

We were feeling like some great Italian, so we were pumped to find Capriccio on a Zomato collection.

We were greeted with fine service, and we took an outside table on a muggy Sydney day. The ambience and decor is really nice, clean and sleek. It gave me a bit of a beachside vibe.

The pasta menu was pretty limited, but still exciting. I ordered the squid ink spaghetti with blue swimmer crab, chilli, and basil. My friend ordered the pappardelle with lam ragu. And we also got some rosemary and sea salt focaccia.

The focaccia was toasted nicely with a perfect crunch. I'll just speak to my dish: it was enjoyable, but the flavours were really overpowered by the chilli. The aroma was lovely, and sopping up the sauce after I finished was delicious, but generally it was difficult to find the flavours. I'm not saying it was too spicy because I love spicy food. The spaghetti as well was a bit oily.I gave it three stars though because I felt full and satisfied afterwards, and the dish itself wasn't terrible. But I'll keep searching for a better spot next time around.

I was invited to celebrate a friend's birthday at Capriccio Osteria and on the day, I ended up carpooling with friends to get here. This was probably the first time I've stepped foot in Leichhardt so was. interesting to discover a long food strip filled with cafes and. restaurants (mental note to visit again during the daytime). As there is limited street parking, it took a while before we found a spot a few blocks away and walked back to the restaurant.

Capriccio Osteria is just one of many popular restaurants on the main food strip that serves up some interesting Italian fusion cuisine.

Rating: 3.5

Actually I’m happy to give 3.5/5 if Zomato allowed half marks. Their food was decent, service was friendly but unfortunately two out of three savoury dishes were too salty. 😣

The zucchini flowers had a lovely light crisp batter, however the stuffing inside was oversalted, it killed the taste of the scallop & snapper mousse. I could only tasted salty & sour. (from the lemon salsa verde) With the squid ink spaghetti, loved the al dente of the handmade pasta, the freshness of the blue swimmer crab & a hint of chilli BUT again they have gone way overboard on salt. 😔 Otherwise I’d give 5/5 to that dish.

Pappardelle had a beautiful texture, the large broad strips were perfect for the rich, bolognese sauce. Presentation-wise, not much but taste-wise, perfect. 😌

Booked with Dimmi discount on this night. Dishes were alright overall. Best dish was the crispy potatoes which was flavourful and had a nice texture, pretty much consumed most of this. The foccacia was apparently also well baked. Was expecting more from the squid ink spaghetti and so nothing special. Beef Ragu was average. Desert was ok but wouldn’t order it again.
The downside was that we had only felt like table water but the waiter kept asking if we wanted any drinks several times throughout the meal, which was annoying ( we succumbed and eventually ordered sparkling later on).

Food was delicious, great service - got the $20 pasta and glass of wine Tuesday deal which was amazing value. The duck ravioli special was a stand out dish. Will definitely be back!

I would give this a 4 for the quality of the pasta however the entrees were very disappointing. 6 small chicken wings cut in half for $16 or something like that. Not very tasty or substantial. The arrancini was over fried and tasted bland and crunch as chips. For the two entrees we paid like $32. Way overpriced. Mains were very nice and pasta tasted handmade. One of the more decent italian places to eat in Leichardt. I particularly liked the texture of the fettucine, cooked al dente. Service was ok overall, we didn't have to wait long for food. Tables were a bit small and definitely a bit of a struggle with 3 people at one table. It felt like we would knock something over any minute. Overall a decent experience but probably won't visit again soon.

Went to Capriccio Osteria for a birthday dinner last night. Service was perfect - our waiter was really helpful and friendly, and they were very attentive with checking up on us throughout the night. We ordered the aracini as an entree, but it was perhaps a bit over-fried as it was too crispy and a tad dry. Despite the start, we were blown away by the mains - we ordered the squid ink spaghetti with blue swimmer crab (tip: ask for extra chilli!) and the duck & parsnip ravioli (from the truffle menu). The flavours were beautifully balanced and we both agreed this was some of the best pasta we've had! We also thoroughly enjoyed the wood fired parsnips as a side, and custard apple panna cotta as a dessert. Highly recommend this place!

Loved this restaurant! It has such a homely vibe, friendly staff, and delicious food! The squid ink pasta was reminiscent of a Thai chilli basil stir fry, and the pecorino fettucini is for sure my personal recommendation. The food is on the saltier side, but comes in huge portions making it well worth the $$

Squid ink pasta with crab - loved this.
Kids pasta - very good.
Brussel sprouts - like it.
Pumpkin ravioli - very good as well.
Great little neighbourhood restaurant with a cozy atmosphere and good service.
Fantastic!
Capriccio Osteria & Bar is absolutely beautiful and the perfect place for everything from family dinners to special occasions.
We’ve been multiple times independently and one luncheon as invited as a food blogger. Each experience was wonderful with great food and service.
Everything from the spritz cocktails and wine list to the perfectly executed food is completely enjoyable.
Easily our favourite Italian on Norton St. Make this one of your must visit restaurants.

Fantastic experience. Nice modern spin on Italian.

Really enjoyed the beetroot and Vodka infused ocean trout with goat curd 8/10, the swordfish with caramelised onion, grapes, fennel and pine nuts 10/10 -- perfectly cooked swordfish with an amazing combination of flavours -- and the hazelnut frangipane with rhubarb and orange mascarpone 8/10.

The cannelloni was tasty but something we felt we could cook at home 6/10. A minor letdown in the sense that everything else was amazing.

Rates 3.25/5 overall. Came here w groupon voucher, cant remember what sort of deal it was (probably half price everything). Too many voucher carrying patrons are treated with something bordering on disdain. Thankfully, these guys were gracious. The best thing was we were presented the SAME menu, not a dumbed down no frills kind one gets when dining with (u guessed it) vouchers.

Green beans 2.75/5, Wagyu carpaccio 2.5/5, looks good taste good but too chewy.
Crispy potato 3.25/5, this was nicely done. Lamb 3/5, Cannenoli 3.25/5, Swordfish 3/5, Fettuccine 3.5/5, loved this simple dish cooked well.

The night we were there, most customers were using vouchers. It was a full house w a 50% table rotation. They were barely able to cope but they were doing their utmost best. Hats off to the boss man n his team for looking after their guests n the kitchen working relentlessly.
The Hippy Foodie
One of the best Italian joints I've had the pleasure of eating at. The squid ink spaghetti was to die for, and the fettucine was perfectly put together. We underestimated the place when we first arrived, only to be thrown off our feet and left in awe of the flavours. Will no doubt be making this one of our regular go to's.

Atmosphere was nice as we were seated outdoors for dinner, however, some big umbrellas or a little more shelter would be much appreciated as leaves sometimes fell into the food.

Highlights of the night would probably be the woodfired scallops, the calamari and the squid ink spaghetti! Scallops were so tender and were a really strong start to the meal, whilst the tomato breadcrumbs really complimented the well cooked calamari nicely. Squid ink pasta was topped with a generous amount of crab meat and the hint of chilli was amazing with it!

The lamb shoulder came in a very generous serving size. We also ordered the arancini balls and the cured ocean trout as entrees which were nice! Only let down was the gnocchi, which was quite bland tasting and the pasta itself felt over cooked.
Capriccio is a Southern Italian wood-fired osteria which offers a simple menu of typical and unassuming Italian fare. Located on Norton Street in Leichhardt, the nondescript restaurant receives a honourable mention in the good food guide. However, I fail to see or taste anything exceptional.

I started with their popular housemade rosemary scented focaccia from the wood fire oven. The focaccia, sprinkled with salt, was fragrant but apparently overdone. The bread was dry. The next dish, a certain stracciatella with crushed peas and broad beans, tasted just like how it sounds.

Last but not least, the squid ink spaghetti with blue swimmer crab is probably their weakest link. The freshly made spaghetti was chewy and delicious but the addition of squid ink fails to suggest its association with the flaky blue swimmer crab (which was obviously not fresh
The RnB Diary
Norton Street in Leichhardt is Sydney’s answer to Melbourne’s Lygon Street with the busy inner-west road ihome to at least a dozen Italian eateries. So, amidst all this competition, what is the winning formula for a restaurant here?. A friendly and welcoming host certainly helps, especially when he comes bearing free prosecco when you’re perusing the menu. We consider ourselves fairly knowledgeable when it comes to Italian cuisine, but a few of the items on the menu at Capriccio Osteria had us stumped. Culatello di Zibello ($13) turns out to be a cured meat similar to prosciutto but with meat from the loin of the hind leg. Only pigs that were born, raised and slaughtered exclusively in Emilia Romagna and Lombardy are used to make Culatello, which make It one of the most prized salami in Italy and known as the king of cured meat. Oh boy we surely enjoyed the salted meat.

Had the great pleasure of dining at Capriccio Osteria & Bar the night before the launch of their new spring menu and one word WOW!

Beautiful simple but gorgeous decor, lovely atmosphere, incredibly friendly staff but most of all amazing, fresh, full of flavour delicious food!

There was nothing to fault about our 9 course dinner (well could have done with seconds or thirds of dessert 😁) from the house made focaccia served at the beginning of the night to the Paris-brest with peanut butter cream & salted dulce de leche served for dessert each dish we had was unique in its own flavour and simply divine!

As soon as we got the round of starters happening we knew it was going to be a good night! That Stracciatella with peas, broad beans, garlic and lemon 😱

Hard to pick our faves from the night but if we had to they would be the Spatchcock with cauliflower skordolia, red radish and cider soaked currents DELICIOUS! and the Squid ink Tagliatelle with blue swimmer crab, chilli and basil, flavours so simple and beautiful!

Desserts oh where to start! Not much of a fan of cheese cake but we ate that strawberry and white chocolate cheese cake the same way Cookie Monster would eat cookies no lie! The Paris-Brest as mentioned before indulgent, creamy, light and lick your plate good!

Head Chef Nicole Bampton is a creative genius who has had experience in some of the finest kitchens in Sydney! Outstanding job!

If you are ever in the area or are looking for great Italian food be sure to stop by and try it all!!

I was pleasantly surprised to have visited this cosy Italian restaurant. It's a great place for date night but also has exclusive seating for parties too. The flavours from every dish provide such a heart-warming feeling and tastes so good. Key highlights for me were definitely the focaccia and saffron fettucine - seriously, the bread was so fragrant and it crumbled into my mouth with every bite. The pasta was cooked more al dente so it wasn't drowned in sauce and the added textures from the cheese and pistachio nuts made it perfectly balanced.
The Naked Food Addict
Was lucky enough to try the new menu at capriccio osteria last night (a night before the new menu is released today) and let me start off by saying WOW. We essentially inhaled all 9 courses that were beautifully presented to us. The food was divine, the service was fantastic, and I would recommend checking them out!

We started off with the "house made rosemary Focaccia" (which was delicious), followed by the stracciatella with green peas, broad beans, garlic and lemon oil. I had never tried stracciatella before, but I quickly fell in love with it (it is a cheese produced from Italian buffalo milk). We then tried the asparagus spears which were roasted with orange butter and a hazelnut romesco. I quite enjoyed these if I must say so myself.

Then onto the dish I was most excited to try.... the "squid ink tagliatelle with blue swimmer crab, chilli and basil". This ended up being my 2nd favourite dish in the end surprisingly. It was lovely! The chilli and garlic paired perfectly with the rest of this dish, and I was very pleased. The tagliatelle was al dente, and the crab was great :). This was followed by the "hand cut beetroot pappardelle with Duck ragu". This was an interesting dish. The pasta was cooked to perfection, and the textures worked really well together.

Now onto my favourite dish of the night... the "jack's creek inner-skirt steak with bagna cauda and watercress"... YUM, YUM and YUM. The bagna cauda was divine! Absolutely loved it!! The "spatchcock with cauliflower skordolia, red radish and cider soaked currants" almost reminded me of an italian version of charcoal chicken... it was so good!! So much flavour and all of the sides paired really nicely with it!

Finally onto the dessert, we tried the "paris-brest with peanut butter cream and salted dolche de leche" and the "white chocolate and pistachio cheesecake with strawberries" both were outstanding!!

All in all, I would recommend checking them out especially if you are in the area :)

Capriccio is my favourite Italian Restaurant in Sydney bar none and we eat a *lot* of Italian food. So authentic and so delicious. Lots of unique & tasty imports on the drinks list too.

We love coming here! Real Italian food that's hard to beat in Sydney. Staff are fantastic to talk to and are clearly passionate about their food and produce. Excellent vegetarian sides and starters, too.
Sir And Mlady Dine Out
It's hard to know which highlight to start with when you talk about Capriccio Osteria. The venue itself has a cool calming feel to it with crisp interiors offset with timber and wrought iron. You feel comfortable straight away. It's a surprisingly big place too with several areas - downstairs front, private downstairs room and spacious upstairs room. The front of house runs so smoothly and the kitchen moves out some amazing dishes under the leadership of Chef Nicole Bampton who honed her skills at Tetsuya's and Lucios. The big decision is where to start. We did the sensible thing and asked! Fortunately co-owner Michele Rispoli and the rest of the staff were there to help.

My husband and I loved the intimate, cosy setting at this neighbourhood gem! The handmade pastas seemed really popular. We went with the scallop fazzoletti and were so impressed by the fresh flavours and the texture of the pasta. The wood fired spatchcock was deliciously cooked and perfect for sharing. For dessert we had gingerbread pavlova and pear honeycomb icecream - both delectable. The service we received was friendly and attentive throughout. We will definitely be back!
Pheebs
Great service, generous portions, a bit too much flavour and salt otherwise a great variety of tasting dishes. Pasta was a by too soft and lacked depth in flavour. Overall pretty enjoyable experience!
Thomas Mak
Inconsistent with portions, given you pay the same for each oyster, I was surprised that staff were initially reluctant to exchange the oyster. At the end, also charged extra for bread and then was also met with a initial reluctance to remove that from our bill (if we wanted to lie about being charged twice, we wouldn't lie about bread). Overall, food was good quality and the server that took our orders was friendly. Would I go there again? Probably not..my personal preference as a customer is to balance quality and value, and for what we were getting, I didn't see that balance in my dining experience.
Arunima Bhattacharya
Located at the eatery hub of Leichhardt, the joint provides you with an authentic Italian experience. You can settle for a cozy in-house dining or outdoor seating considering your current mood and ambiance. The ala-carte platter has a wide range to offer and the quantity if not commendable is satisfactory. The bar menu is pretty impressive and so is the staff. Polite and thoughtful. The order serving time could have been faster but then its situational considering the number of customers. I had nothing much to complain regarding that as it was on a Saturday night hence considerable.
Eatwithmyfoodsafari
Don't come here expecting pizza, mix and match pasta and sauces or an oyster bar.
But if you're after a dining experience that will transport you to Italy with beautiful seasonal produce prepared with passion and flair, then Capriccio is a must-visit dining destination.
A fresh contemporary space greets you as you step through the doors of this casual, yet upmarket Norton street eatery. We recently enjoyed a long Sunday lunch and I'd recommend dining in the light filled upstairs terrace.
We sampled a number of dishes and all were superb. Never have I seen such a stunning plate of pumpkin and ricotta ravioli, and every remaining drop of the brown butter sauce it is served with deserves to be mopped up with Capriccio's fragrant and fluffy house made wood fired rosemary focaccia.
The Mirrool Creek lamb ribs dry spiced rubbed with smoked eggplant was flavoursome and melt-in-the-mouth tender.

And the desserts? Well the yoghurt panna cotta with blackberry and white chocolate shavings is lighter than the traditional cream based panna cotta, and provides just the right amount of sweetness. But you can't go past the cannoli - the Italian pastry is made on site, fried and filled with a passionfruit cream and you get a wonderful crunch and the tangy creaminess of the filling in every bite. Bellissimo!

With a firm focus on showcasing fresh, seasonal produce that is skilfully transformed into delicious art on a plate, Capriccio is a stand out in the inner west.

***edited 11APR19***

We’ve since been here quite a few times after and can affirmatively say that the high quality of food and service remained. Hand made pasta is perfection and the Gnocchi With Duck Ragu was sensational. The Passionfruit Pannacotta had the right amount of wobble. Wasn’t too sweet and accompanying white chocolate mousse was rich but again not cloying with sugar which is a refreshing change from the usual sickly sweet treats you may encounter. If you happen to pass it, drop on in!

Visited here for the first time using a Living social voucher. It was relatively quiet when we arrived. The customer service was excellent and attentive. The food especially the entree was good however the lamb was OK, just a bit dry though. We sat at the bottom level and the seats were a bit high, which was a bit uncomfortable at times. The upper level may have been a bit more comfortable. Overall, it was a nice evening.
HungryForMore
Have visited this place a few times and the food is consistently delicious, the menu is seasonal and has some unusual offerings. The food is presented in a rustic manner, but the desserts are immaculate. A bit on the pricey side. One area that could be improved is the seating - they have high bar stools downstairs and normal chairs are only available upstairs - this makes it difficult for the elderly or less mobile.

Wonderful food and great service. I really love the oysters and the sirloin. The ambiance is really modern and fresh. Would defiantly comeback again

Saturday night after the movie. the place was packed. Service is very good. Food and drinks came quick.

Decoration is great but a little bit dark for the older
people. I saw too man has their flashlight on to go through the menu. The menu
not as big as the other Italian restaurants in this area. There is not pizza on
the menu. All food we ordered was nice except the steak is a little bit cold.

Delicious meal & attentive staff! Great late night place to go for dinner in leichardht. Had the stuffed mushrooms which were delicious and the wait staff were very helpful
Sus.licious
It's a busy restaurant with OK food, we had dinner there on a Wednesday night, the food didn't WOW me, but again it was busy (maybe because they were running a groupon deal). Not a bad place to be if you are in the area. But not worth a detour.
Princess Greedy Guts
Absolutely love this place! I have dined here and gotten delivery & each time the food have been fantastic. I love to start with the warm, woodfired focaccia with a cruncht exterior and fluffy soft inside, topped with seasalt flakes & rosemary. The chicken liver parfait, although more French then Italian is done well here - creamy & rich, perfect with the slightly sweet, paper thin pistachio bread (like a thin biscotti /cracker). One of my favourite refreshing starters is the straciatella with colours of the Italian flag - creamy shredded mozzarella topped with roast red peppers & crunchy fried basil leaves. The cotechino (sausage) sliders were super cute, unusual & delicious. Then there are the pastas... omg each one I have had has been amazing... from the simple cacio e pepe with zucchini flowers which is refreshing & light, to the classic ragu with pappardelle which is flavoursome & comforting to the more dense & filling maltagliata with large sheets of house made hankerchief pasta with a rich, sautee of duck sausage & mushrooms, its all fantastic, generous servings & delicious. The pork rolled & wrapped with pancetta was juicy, tender, sweet & salty from the olive tapanade on top. Beautifully sliced in perfect rounds on top of a dollop of creamy Paris style mash & a side of sauteed icebergs was unusual but delicious & perfectly cooked. Woodfire oven grilled vegetables has a good selection & are perfect & glistening with a douse of good olive oil. Dessert of yogurt pannacotta was sweet & creamy, with the perfect amount of wobble. Enjoy an aperitivo to start then beautiful Italian wines which pairs perfectly with the food.

Finally!!! A consistently great Italian restaurant in Leichhardt!! I've been utterly disappointed at the suburb of Leichhardt Italian food scene since moving there a few years ago. Loving Italian food I thought in 'little Italy' it would be easy to find something I liked nearby.... Well NO the forum is dead and poor quality and inconsistent places until Capriccio arrived. Perfectly cooked pasta with delicious entrees and deserts. Who could want more! Delightful staff are more than wiling help and clearly this is the place to go in Leichhardt if you want Italian food!!! I've had the ragu and zucchini pasta and both fantastic- the tacos are also a must!

Been meaning to try this place for a very long time, and when it popped up on LivingSocial last year it seemed a perfect excuse to do so. Finally cashed in the voucher last night. We were greeted in a friendly manner and given a great seat outside. We were given the menu degustation rather than what was on the voucher, but this worked out for the best as we really enjoyed all the dishes.
The foccacia was superb - I'd come back just for that! Also quite liked the pasta with pecorino cheese.
We got a litre of house wine to accompany it which wasn't bad at all.
Would definitely come back here - the only problem is it's next to Aperitivo which I am very fond of as well. Choices, choices!

Went to cappricio osteria with a voucher and found the food to be flavoursome and fresh. I ordered the pasta with pipis and a glass of white wine. Service was friendly and attentive. Looking forward to returning to try other things on the menu.
@eatingupwiththehannashians
We went on Valentine's Day only to find a condensed version of the menu which kind of sucked because we were craving pasta like crazy. We ordered pretty much everything anyway and it was quite delicious. Unfortunately we are unable to give a higher score without trying absolutely everything that we really wanted to try. Will definitely go back and give it another try.

We felt very welcome here and were greeted by all staff members. We had a three course meal plus dessert; the smoked oysters, king crab and diced capsicum and the house made passatelli pasta was to die for... the cappuchino dessert was also lovely, just a bit rich for me.
will definitely make the trip across the bridge again.

A place which another reviewer asked me several times to go. To my amazement my partner had bought vouchers from those deal websites. I don't like these vouchers after a few bad experiences.
Thank goodness this didn't happen. Despite not getting what was on the voucher we actually got more! Everything we tried was great. While we were looking forward to the pipi pasta dish,it turns out the pasta was the standout rather than the pipi's. Even when the pasta did come out and it wasn't the pipi's pasta they had nil issues making it for us.
Service is good, explaining what food was coming out.
There is a indoor/outdoor seating area but if your indoors I hope you don't mind long chairs/stools.
It loses half a point for having a dirty dish at the beginning which they change with nil fuss.
Can't comment on prices as I got no idea what my partner paid
A great new taste sensation for me,already talking about coming back

Delicious and interesting take on traditional flavours. Decent prices and great for sharing with friends. Drinks are great as well, have the Aperol Spritz! Good to see something good on Norton St again!
Will go here again!

On a sunny day, we took a leisurely stroll from Petersham Station to Capriccio Osteria & Bar, excited to try this great addition to the Leichhardt dining scene!. We were lucky enough to try some of the small plates, which are great for sharing and sampling a large variety of dishes on the menu. We started off with the Cannolo Alla Mortadella, which was coated with a balsamic savory cannolo shell, and filled with a creamy and flavoursome mortadella pate and a hint of pistachio that shone through – a really surprising but well constructed dish.

Matteo Galletto and Michele Rispoli (ex Lucio’s, Paddington) along with head chef Bryan Gerlini (ex A Tavola) bring this casual and modern Italian venue to life in the thriving and Italian-at-heart suburb of Leichhardt. Capriccio, loosely translated to 'whimsical' or 'fantastical' has recently been refurbished and is quite funky whilst still retaining old Italian charm.

My partner and I just had the most fantastic meal at this lovely local Italian in Leichhardt. The food and service was top notch and we can't wait to go back. Get there before 6.30pm and enjoy an Aperol Spritz (amongst other drinks listed) for only $6 - already a winner in my book!

We tried a range of dishes that were all fantastic but a special mention goes to the Octopus, which was outstanding. I also love the fact that the house wine comes in barrels direct from Italy - smooth, full of flavour and fantastic value.

We were so impressed with our meal that we have organised a pre Xmas lunch with 8 friends. Definitely one to put on your list.

Michele I invited us to come and sample some of their items on he menu.

Delicious Italian cuisine with a modern twist but still has the authentic flavours that brings back nostalgia.

From starters to small and large plates, this restaurant offers lots of tasty choices for you to share with a partner, friends and loved ones.

Top favourites was the pork belly, cortechino slider ( a traditional Italian Christmas dish with a modern twist) the piadina romagnola (Italian style tacos) and the pasatelli alle vongole (soft noodles with a very interesting texture). Desserts were divine but I forgot the names lol

Staff were friendly and efficient, thank you to Michele for the invite and I will indeed be back with friends so sample more of this delectable menu.

Capriccio is part of the italian New Wave hitting Sydney and the restaurant is run by 3rd generation restaurateurs Matteo Gallatto and Michele Rispoli. Housed on Norton Street in Leichhardt – the venue dishes out Osteria styled menu with a menu designed for sharing and also for the sole dinner who’s popping in for a vino and a small bite. For lunch, they have this spelt Panini that is cooked to order in the woodfired and one of the best sandwiches you’ll get in town.

The food here is absolutely wonderful. Every dish that came out was presented beautifully and so flavoursome. Boss man Michele is so kind and friendly and Chef Bryan takes plenty of care in the dishes he presents. I highly recommend the Passatelli Vongole - it is seriously amazing.

This is a great find on Norton Street, Leichhardt. The food is great, service is friendly and the atmosphere is inviting and fun. My favorite starter is the delicious cotechino slider and i highly recommend the rigatoni. Its time to go back to Norton street, instead of Chippendale, Surry Hills or the city.

Capriccio is the refreshing new addition to the now sleepy Norton strip. What once was the go to area for Italian food has now been replaced with for lease signs and Thai restaurants. They are taking the Italian classics we know and love and recreating them. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and the house made focaccia was that good I wanted to eat just that. All night!
Must try: mortadella cannoli
Standout of the evening: cappuccino dessert - oh. My god. This dish won me over and was by far my favourite!
This place came very highly recommended and for very good reasons. The expectations I had of this place were very high and remain so. I don't think I've been to an Italian place with this high a standard... Ever! We dined in for entree, main and dessert and each came with its own exquisite flavours. I will definitely be back and recommend that everyone tries this place. Absolutely superb.

We loved the food, its different from the usual Italian fare in a great way. We were a table of five and we decided to go for the sharing menu which was fabulous. There was a lot of food, so good value particularly given it's so innovative. The wine list is great, and so is the coffee. Service was friendly and helpful by the charming owner Michele. We will be back.

Amazing food, one of the best meals I've had in a while. Good vibe and reasonably priced. Highly recommend the mortadella and cotechino slider.

Great authentic fresh Italian food. The panini was cooked fresh in the wood fire, absolutely delicious. The pasta was cooked perfectly with a good balance of flavours with crispy parsley and garlic flakes on top. Will definitely be back, reasonable prices and a good addition to the leichhardt area.

Went back to Capriccio And it is the best Italian in Leichhardt and the inner west. We started with the Stracciatella with shredded mozzarella, basil oil, semi dried tomato and fresh focaccia made from their woodfire oven. This was a standout dish with amazing flavours. All the pasta is homemade and cooked perfectly, we got the special pasta of the day which was the tortellini ragu with a cheese sauce and balsamic. Another highlight was the roast asparagus, egg yolk, anchovy, Mayo which had a sensational taste and was well balanced.

It's Italian, fun and fresh - and very new.
They have the most amazing wood fired panini on their lunch menu - actually baked to order and filled with porchetta or prosciutto or mushrooms & cheese etc.

We went back for dinner with a large group and shared some delicious snacks, pastas and wood-fired calamari and salmon. Great food, great service, great night.

Highly recommend.
