Review Aperitivo - Leichhardt

Michele Avino
We were time constrained because the movie was starting in 40 minutes, therefore, we placed an order over the phone. The pizza was a perfect Napoli style pizza served at the perfect time. The real surprise was Maurizio, a brilliant and enthusiastic Sicilian man, his level of service was very high. The tiramisu’ was to die for (savoiardi dipped in quality coffee). We’ll definitely go back for the pizza and the super service!

Stopped in tonight on our way home for a quick bite and a few drinks. Couldn't be happier, what an enjoyable experience. Maurizio our server was attentive , informative and basically all round superstar. He pointed us towards some lovely menu and drink options. Thank you for a lovely dining experience Maurizio.

Spontaneously decided to go here for dinner after the cinema and so glad we did. Lovely ambience, friendly and efficient staff and delicious food and cocktails. We had the crab and prawn squid ink spaghetti and a proper Italian pizza and both were so good. The attentive wait staff suggested the spaghetti as it was a specials menu item over my initial choice and they were so right! Had a great evening - would love to come back again soon! Thanks !

The pizza was very good, Service is well timed and attentive and the food is so good, Such a wonderful place! The pizza are made in wood oven these thin slices delicious!

The pizza was spectacular here-exactly how I remembered pizza to be just like in Naples(nice chew to it). I’ll be sure to come back. Service was great and attentive. Gnocchi was okay but the pizza was definitely the stand out.

This is a gem of a place I keep coming back to when I want an authentic and rewarding Italian experience. It’s a safe bet, a place I love introducing to people and returning to with others. The food is excellent, the flavours rich and deep and true to the Italian principle of fresh and simple ingredients. Tonight we feasted on pizza with a smoky chewy crust cooked to perfection in the wood fired oven and a Burrata Panzanella creamy and tangy and to die for. The service, as usual, is warm, welcoming and generous. Our host Maurizio hits all the right notes as he takes care of us with ease, charm and grace. Meanwhile, the Italian soundtrack transports us to Italy itself. A great experience as always and highly recommended.

I came here with a large group of friends for my birthday. We all enjoyed it so much, staff were so friendly and accommodating for a larger group. The food was 10/10, would highly recommend this place!

Such a wonderful night out. Plenty of authentic entree options beyond pizza. If you don’t have a big Italian family to eat with, come here and feel like you do. Si mangia bene. Service is well timed and attentive and the food is so good. Come to discover a new dish!
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
Aperitivo has been my local pizza joint for more than a decade. It’s a large restaurant with two levels of indoor dining plus outdoor dining street-side and in a rear courtyard, so they were particularly well equipped to implement NSW Health’s current social distancing instructions and keep plenty of space between diners earlier in the week. Aperitivo also send out pizza delivering via platforms like UberEats, though you can ensure all your money goes into supporting your local guy (rather than a corporate giant) by talking a walk to pick up your pizza yourself (while we still can)...
Chicca Fumagalli
I’ve been in this restaurant 3 times. Once I ordered pasta and I was disappointed. I see that type of pasta is not anymore on the menu, which is good. Pizzas were ok but the crust was chewy because of the style of pizza. Zucchini flowers were really good and I enjoyed a lot the sauce.

Great spot for woodfired pizza! We came here on a weeknight and luckily it wasnt too busy. With thst being said felt like the staff could be a little more attentive, it was hard to get their attention!

I always get excited when I walk into an italian place and all the staff are authentic. Really great vibes from the friendly smiles, the italian menu (needed to whip out Google for some translations)
Portions were a little small dont know if that's a good thing lol.
Great ambiance is what certainly stands out here and why we ended up here. Inside it reminded me of been in Europe. I had a pizza, wood fired which was good, it was a good WF pizza nothing more nothing less.

Aperitivo is a contemporary Italian restaurant on Norton Street in Leichhardt which focuses on classical wood fired pizzas and pastas. The modern, inviting restaurant features a chic interior fitted with dark wooden flooring and striking red chairs.

Their signature pizzas, however, was a major disappointment. Flimsy, soggy and mushy, there pizza crust lacks crisp and it was entirely impossible for me to eat them without folding the pizza slices into two or three so that the ingredients did not fall over.

The frito misto was one of the best I've had, so tender and delicious. Pizzas to me arnt as I like it - too much dough, but I appreciate it for the style that they are going for. The salad rocket and pear we had as a side was beautifully dressed
Daniela Partington
We had dinner there last night and were very disappointed in our experience. The food was delicious but the attitude of the staff was absolutely atrocious. They really need to work on their customer service.

I've never felt the need to rate a place and comment on cocktails. My fiance and I were in yesterday on a very windy and cold Sunday afternoon so it was empty when we arrived but we didn't care. He had an aperol spritz and I had the solerno spritz (blood orange). OMG!! It was a big drink but the alcohol and flavour in general were not compromised. I don't think I've had a better cocktail. Once the kitchen had opened, we got the schiacciatella (pizza crust with tomatoes, oregano and garlic oil). It was a perfect accompaniment and so simple but so tasty. Slightly tinged on the bottom which is perfect (wouldn't want it to be undercooked). I kind of want this to become our Sunday regular and we will be returning for dinner one day to try out their pizzas as their schiacciatella was a good indication of what to expect

The nightlife at Leichhardt is positively buzzing. Practically every restaurant we pass by on Norton Street is packed and heaving with people. Granted it is Friday night at dinner time but it’s still impressive to see so many diners out and about on this particular strip. Ash decides on this Italian restaurant, Aperitivo which have their own pizza oven. The pizza style is traditional with the crusts puffed up and pillowy. The dough is charred in some bits which adds to its appeal.
Jwunda
Great pizzas. Done much differently to the rest of the Norton St establishments, but you will pay for it! I love the eclectic bar ambiance, will have to come back for drinks next time, seeing we're just a minute walk away.
TrufflePig
Tried Aperitivo after my usual pizza joint closed for the evening, as Aperitivo fortunately accept orders a little later. We ordered the capricciosa and salsiccia. Both pizzas arrived a little juicy and ended up leaking out the boxes. The dough was tasty and deliciously chewy, although the size of our capricciosa was odd-shaped with thick dough in some sections, so didn't stretch over the whole box. Flavours in capricciosa were on point, olives and ham aplenty.

Loved the salsiccia, and although the beautiful colours in the fresh radicchio fade out with the heat when delivered, the flavour combination of this with the mushrooms and truffle worked well. I thought the pork sausage was just a bit gluttonous and didn't really add too much.

Amazing pizza, one of the best pizzas that I've had in Australia. They are very helpful and are able to alter dishes to suit dietary requirements. Lovely staff, my new favourite pre cinema restaurant!

Really enjoyed the delicious food and atmosphere. Pate and pipi pasta were great Friendly and responsive host and staff.
Thanks
Bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb

Quite simply the best pizza in Sydney. I go as often as I can. Everything else on the menu that we have tried is great but did I mention the pizza? No? Well I can tell you that it is fantastic.

This is one of my favourite spots in Sydney. I love Italian food, from appetizers to pastas to pizzas to the wine. Here therevis all of that plus more on offer and it is all delicious. This is a wine bar & restaurant, dark & moody, fun & romantic. It is Italian food taken to new, modern heights. Dishes are beautifully presented & creative, ingredients & pasta are fresh, pizza is one of the best in Sydney. Lots of wines by the glass means you can try & learn at the same time. I always feel satisfied leaving here with a happy tummy & big grin.
FoodComa
Trendy and spacious eating area with several outdoor and indoor seating areas which gives customers that added flexibility. The pizzas was highly anticipated here from reading the reviews and they are uniquely tasty but not the most delicious mouth watering pizzas I've ever tried. We ordered the pepperoni pizza. The tomato base sauce was one of quality and super juicy with tangy flavours lingering in your mouth. They kept the toppings minimal as this is the true neapolitan tradition and style of pizza and I appreciated the deep flavours of the pepperoni and other special herbs in every mouth full. The crust was light with special bubbles from the special woodfired oven heat when cooking. The pizza size was a bit small for my liking with more crust than topping ratio as I definitely prefer the other way around any day. The other foods we tried included the chicken liver pate and the beef carpaccio as entrees and the prawn pasta and the pesto lamb Ragu pasta as mains. Chicken liver pate didn't taste fresh, the texture was not creamy and easy to spread and looked like its been sitting in the fridge for a while waiting to be served. Similarly like a supply chain, missing that freshness and that love. The crackers accomodating the pate was way to crispy and thin and made it even more difficult eat with pate as it would crack and break everywhere. The only highlight was that caramelised onions, that was sweet and tangy and superb, saving the disappointing pate dish. The beef carpaccio tasted and looked more like raw beef tartare. Small cubes of unseasoned beef mixed in with some light creams and herbs which was not mind blowing, but once again an accommodating side sauce saved the dish with my partner and I fighting for the last swivel of sauce on our forks. The pastas was one of the most underwhelming pastas I had tried which was highly disappointing as I love my Italian pastas. Maybe because I enjoy more traditional pastas rather than the modern twists to traditional dishes so i can simply be bias to my own preferences. However this being said, portions were tiny and the flavours just didn't wow me enough. The pasta wasn't drenched in sauce like I expected, this was compensated with an overload of dried herbs which over empowered the fresh flavours on the plate. All in all, i really tried liking what I was eating but it didn't hit the spot. Service was ok, but not great as we had to wave down for service several times to get noticed. There's so many spectacular Italian choices in Sydney that had set a benchmark whether it is expensive or a cheap gem, and i wouldn't be dying to come back here any time.

Bianca: Leichhardt’s Norton Street isn’t the Italian stalwart it once was, the abandoned store fronts aren’t doing much to sell the suburb that was virtually my second home growing up. My Nonna lives a street back from Norton Street and many a nights were spent making the short trek to Bar Italia after dinner for some gelato.

Aperitivo in Leichardt is rated as one of the best places for authentic Neapolitan style pizza in Sydney. It’s one of the very few restaurants in Sydney licensed by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana which means they prepare their pizza according to strict rules to ensure that they are authentic.

We went here hoping for a similar food experience to what we had in Italy earlier this year. We weren't disappointed. Starters were a cheese platter (including pecorino) and prosciutto. Both were as tasty as I would have expected. The pizzas were similar to what we had in Sorrento. And that they had BrewFist beer was a big bonus. This was one of the few good Italian beers we found in Italy. Service was really good - speedy and friendly. So I recommend this place. And we will be back soon.

Very good pizza in Sydney ! I love the Norma it is fantastic , the place look very good and the people working there are nice , the other food is nice but not like the pizza

Authentic Italian in a friendly atmosphere. Caprese very good with very fresh mozzarella. Pappardelle was al dente although the sauce was a bit bland
Sydneyguyrojoe
PRetty good. I came here as my Italian friend told me there is only 2 places in Sydney that make there pizza dough they do.
They have to get certification from Italy itself to do the pizza base the way they do
I describe it as a thin base with a puffy crust, looking like Lebanese bread
Like traditional Italian pizzas there isn't much topping on it and I found the pizza with the tuna on it tasting better than the homemade sausage pizza. Prices are ok, it looks like the size of a small to medium pizza
The deconstructed Tiramisu wasn't for me
Nil issues with service
I liked the ambience, it feels very trendy in there
Will be back!!

Terrible experience. Went with friends for dinner (6 of us) Pizza took an hour and half, no apology. Waiters were rude the whole night. Food wasnt worth the wait thats for sure!

Best Pizza. This is the best pizza I have tried outside of Italy! Drinks are little on the expensive side but overall positive experience.

Small plates and awesome cocktails. I spent a very relaxed evening enjoying a number of the small plates and delicious drinks. Great food, friendly service and stiff drinks.

So Disappointing. Arrived Around 7:30pm entree"s served pretty quick 45mins later still waiting for mains which were only Two pizza's enquired about it, then 15mins later was told 2mins more waited another 15mins still nothing end up leaving paid for entree and drinks was not even giving an apology nor a discount i recommend avoiding this place like the plague.

The food was delicious, when it turned up.... The service was atrocious. Three requests after thirty minutes had the wine arrive, after forty five the first of four small plates ordered arrived, and then nothing. In the end we canned the order very disappointed.

There is no mistaking that Aperitivo’s pizza had the nice quality. Quite a lot of options for the pizza, so you might want to take your time in finding the perfect combination that suit your needs. The interesting thing on this menu is that they have two Margherita pizza. One is the normal Margherita and the other one is Margherita Bufala STG. So, what made it so special and warranted an increase of $7? The footnote gave a little bit of explanation about STG. In 1996, Margherita was recognised as a Specialità Tradizionale Garantita. Technically, you are guaranteed that the pizza you enjoyed is of traditional quality. You also got buffalo mozzarella instead of the normal cow’s milk mozzarella.

However it is not enough to dethrone my personal favourite.

The restaurant gets pretty busy and I always think this is a plus as it means the atmosphere is more lively, and the food is probably going to be good as so many people want to try it out, are returning for more, or like me, have come on a recommendation.
Aperitivo is one of the 5 Italian Pizzeria located in NSW that is (Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana) AVPN certified. They make some killer pizzas with a very yummy Margherita which was amongst one of the best pizzas we’ve had. It’s a large italian venue with a plywood lined wall to one side with colourful artwork on it. Aperitivo is large, taking up the width of 2 shopfronts. They do aperitifs here and and there’s a nice front bar in the venue. buffalo mozzarella mouse and tomato gel refreshingly delicious this. Also here today is Aperol and Campari – wondering what goes in an Aperol Spritz? Instructions in the pic. A rather delicious risotto dish, creamy and flavoursome. There’s porcini in this. It’s excellent. Aperol Spritz and an Aperol Orange juice. Both delicious and refreshing. A sampling of delicious vinos at Aperitivo. Their Margherita Pizza sits on a soft base while swimming in a pool of tomato sauces. Its a delicious gooey treat and amongst one of the best pizzas you’ll have. This Salsiccia Pizza with sausage, gooey mozzarella, radicchio and porcini mushrooms is similiar good. with the bitterness of the raddichio tempered by the sausage and mushroom. Your kids probably won’t like this but its very good. Also at Aperitivo is an incredible Capesante Fiordlatte with seared seascallops and sautéed silverbeet. Here, a Tartufo – cream of ricotta, Parmesan, pancetta, rocket and blacktruffle paste. Fragant oozy, delicious. Dessert was a chocolate mound and its luxuriant and rich. Very delightful. It was kind of hard to see the colours in the bowl – the assumption was that it was all chocolate. But the picture tells a different story. Aperitivo is a venue, we’d visit just for the pizzas. It’s pretty great. Have an apertif, grab a pizza and have a great time. They’re also the only Australian Pizza Place (that is certified by the AVPN) to sit in the Top 30 in Australia. LINKS http://aperitivo.com.au/

The pizzas were very disappointing in my opinion. The bases where a bit like Lebanese bread and the toppings didn't have much flavour or oomph.
Prick With A Fork
...there’s a lot to like about Aperitivo, and it wouldn’t be hard for there to be a good deal to love.
Lucycakes
The best part of dining at Aperitivo though, was not the amazing food (which was, amazing!) but the overall package – the restaurant is not sardine packed, the staff were very knowledgeable and friendly – you were never made to feel rushed and most importantly you were made to feel at ease.
Just One More Spoon
Despite the small serving size, we walked out feeling full and satisfied. The first dish we had was beetroot gazpacho with gorgonzola semifreddo .

Aperitivo is a rather flashy wine bar and restaurant addition to the strip, opening about 16 months ago on the sight of the former Pavarotti's on Norton. Aperitivo are pre-dinner drinks and snacks, usually small plates designed to whet the appetite in pre

The perfect pizza - a thin light base, a fluffy pillowed crust and just the right amount of tipping. The benchmark.

Apertivo needs to update it's opening hours on its website. Apertivos website says that it is open till midnight, yet when I called at 11pm tonight (tuesday night) to see if they were delivering, I was told that they had finished for the night.

Great italian restaurant. Finally got the chance to try this place with a bunch of friends.
We all enjoyed everything, the food was so good.
A special mention goes to the pizza! One of the best I've had outside of Napoli!
The aperol spritz is also very good and for $9 was a bargain compared to other rip off joints.
Highly recommend this place and we will return.

It is a competition in our household who has to call and order pizza from this place. I love the pizza here but the staff are beyond rude. Correcting every thing and speaking down to you because you haven't said it in the correct Italian accent. We always ask for extra salami (salumi!) on a salumi pizza but tonight they said no we can't do that. We can pay for it?! No. Cannot happen. Understand you make traditional beautiful pizzas but your arrogant and customer-hating approach is starting to wear thin. Pick up your game!!!!

Great experience. We let the chefs choosing for us.. they didn't disappointing us.
Nice mix between fine dining and tapas bar, competitive prices, next time we'll try the pizza either.
Good job!
Damien
We found the food to be rather tasty. However what let us down was the quality of service. The meat on our pizza was not cooked. We had the saliccia which was the Italian sausage with olives and mushrooms. We then ordered the chocolate fondant for desert and waited a very long time. When we asked the waiter about the order he had forgot to place it I the system we then asked him to cancel it and for the bill. They had no removed the desert from the bill. After venting my disappointment it took three people to work it out. Attention to detail was lacking! Very disappointed !!!
Hello
Great place for a date or nice night out.... Cocktails and drinks are great, not cheap by any means but a nice vibe to the place... always recommended this to mates for a first date. Casual, but classy.
Only had my first real meal their 2 nights ago... we were all BLOWN AWAY. Steak was stunning, chicken was too... and this starter we had, can't remember the name but it was basically a garlic pizza with Ricotta and Olive Tapenade... amazing, something I might go back for alone.
Yes the steak is 27 odd dollars and not massive, but Pubs are charging about that these days and do not come anywhere close (I'm not even a big red meat fan)... Orange Chicken I avoided from the menu, then ate half my girlfriends plate, was great.
They do a mean Caprioska

Disappointing. I came here based on the reviews from Urbanspoon and was really disappointed. The food was pretty bland, lacking the promised flavours. Also, the staff seemed to be sworn to a oath of secrecy on how big the pizzas actually were. All they kept saying was that is was one main meal. Either way, they are about 12inches wide but over priced for their size and not great. With entrees I would recommend 1 between 2. But I generally wouldn't recommend coming here and I certainly won't be back.

What a shot in the arm this hip Italian eatery and bar brings to Leicchardt! Love it. Great modern Italian food, excellent woodfired pizza and charming Italian staff. Highly recommended.

Absolutely love this place. A little treasure on norton st! I've eaten all over Italy and this place is truly authentic and gets 5 stars. All Italian staff, super friendly and well priced! My friend and I come everything we go to the movies. Don't miss it!
Way-ward
Not a very good start but it was ok.... Upon arrival I discovered I had not confirmed my reservation and therefore there was no table (have never had to confirm before nor was it mentioned they would be doing this). We did get a table which was unfortunately right behind the bar and so it was very noisy which was annoying.
We waited over 45 minutes for the entree even though it was after 9 and there weren't many people eating dinner. We did get a complimentary pizza which was a little under cooked although a nice gesture at least. The zucchini flowers were nice but not overly flavorsome.
The bread was forgotten about by the staff and another long wait later we got our mains. The pumpkin risotto was nice but very rich. Overall the food was good but a little bit heavy and rich. The sauces were particularly good with everything.
The staff were very friendly, one waitress in particular was helpful and nice. It was an average night and I couldn't see myself going back there any time soon.

Love the vanilla croquettes with chocolate sauce, excellent pasta, lychee cocktail and the best pizza in town.

Amazing service!. What a night! Right from the moment we stepped in the service here was impeccable. The food being superb topped the whole evening. Will definitely be coming back here.

Local favourite for pizza. Pizzas are good. Thin crust with soft, chewy texture at edges. Nicely dressed with a tempting range of options. Casual atmosphere with welcoming and attentive service. Very good selection of reasonably priced Italian & Aussie wines by the glass. The rich and spicy barbera d'alba is my pizza accompaniment of choice. A local favourite on Norton Street.
Mellee
The service was fantastic.
I don’t rate the pizzas but would love to try the pasta.
Our group were disappointed with the pizzas – the bases were very undercooked and the prosciutto wasn’t crispy at all.
C011
Great!. Great but not amazing. I liked Aperitivo but the dishes were overcharged and extremely small portions.

We ordered ravioli to get literally five pieces- that was $25 gone!
Lor
Wow!!! Aperitivo is my new rave about restaurant. Everything we put in out mouths was AMAZING!! The food was very fresh and different. The wait staff were friendly and helpful. We all enjoyed our night and can't wait to return.
Chris
Always great food, great wine, great cocktails, great service, great atmosphere - perfect place for a night with friends.
Russell Bunn
Ok Italian. The scallops were nice to start and the black Angus was a bit plain and dry. Not sure of the gluten friendly status. The menu was not very helpful and the wait staff were totally oblivious. 5/10.
Nancy
I would only recommend the pizzas; thin crust and tasty. The small dishes aren't very good and I haven't tried the pastas. The cocktails are not bad either.
Orlando
First time visit. Great ambience. Large selection of tapas/appetizers and well cooked pizzas as well as good cocktails. We had great friendly service and tasty dishes. It's our new favourite place on norton st.
Sammy
One if my worst food experiences. Staff nice, but food was just horrible. A special was crab pasta that tasted so fishy I was worried the seafood was off. The flavours on the pizza were just wrong- so strong it was disgusting. Would not recommend.
Matt
A welcome addition to Norton Street. After recently discovering Aperitivo on a whim, we have stopped in a few times to sample both a selection of the cocktail menu, and the tapas menu. On each and every occasion we have been impressed with the food and the warm and attentive staff. There are also some seriously knock-out cocktails which are delivered with panache and precision. Some great originality to the selections which will keep us returning for more.
Nick De La Force
I love this place. Every time I go, the food is outstanding, the staff are really nice and recognised me despite the fact I hadn't been since March! Can't speak highly enough of Aperativo.
Cristyjean
So close. Aperitivo ticks all the boxes...almost. First and most importantly, the food is delicious. Pizza is just as good as Napoli in Bocca and Pizza e Birra. There were five of us so we tried quite a few dishes. Everything was lovely, my only gripe was the serving size of some of the tapas. Even though the waitress did warn us they were small, when they came out they looked like smurf food. The skewers of lamb and chicken actually looked silly on the plate they were so small. Everything else - spot on.
Michael Lambretta
Fantastic!. Great food, atmosphere and service. We left extremely happy and will definitely be back!
AzzA
Don't be fooled by the pleasant setting, the food is mediocre at best. "tapas" for $18 and mains for $21, the pricing here makes no sense and is just plain excessive. One can't feel short-changed by the whole experience.
The pizzas are inconsistent, the pasta not al dente and sauces quite plain. It's a shame as the owner seems keen and the restaurant itself is nice. Norton St in general is pretty grim these days and a shadow of it's former self. Hopefully one day it picks up again and there's a higher level of competition forcing restaurants to lift their game.

Stick to pizza. This was place was slightly disappointing, but not a total failure. I think it was a case of everything on the menu sounding amazing, but then not meeting expectations. We had the venison with chocolate sauce and blueberries (which was lacking on the sauce and thus really didn't allow for a proper appreciation of the flavour) and duck pancetta with cheese souffle (the souffle was nowhere near as delicious as I'd imagined and the meat was not worth the price tag) as tapas. Both left us feeling quite disappointed. We followed up wth a pizza, which was amazing! Looking at the delicious-looking pizzas on all the other tables made us regret not just sticking to pizza! Each pizza is the same price as a tapas plate and is much better in both quality and quantity!
Dessert was a huge let-down. My husband and I decided to go crazy and get two - the Italian doughnuts with Nutella, and the Nutella ravioli with Bailey's foam and praline sauce. Considering they were $17 each, we certainly felt ripped off. The 'Nutella' was watered down, and we were both convinced it was in fact a knock off of Nutella. The ravioli barely had a drop of 'Nutella' in, the praline sauce literally tasted like nothing, and as a lover of Bailey's even I had to admit that the foam was too strong.
The restaurant/bar was cool nevertheless, and we would return for a pizza if we happened to be in the neighbourhood - but nothing more!
Zopo
Food tastes as though it is reheated and not cooked fresh. Great idea leichhardt needs more wine bars. They could dim the lights a little, perhaps, turn the music up a bit & create a but more atmosphere. The food could do with a bit more work considering the price. Some specialties and cook it fresh. Don't reheat.
Monica Ulibarri
The place was everything an Italian restaurant in Leichart should have: main street location, atmosphere, extensive wine menu and interesting tapas; however I cannot forgive an Italian restaurant that does not do pizza well. I ordered a combination of half margarita pizza and half salami calzonne and was dissapointed on the flavor and the presentation. The sauce was a bit dry and it lacked seasoning. Perhaps the tapas are a lot better. I will give it another chance to convert me again.
