Review Fantong - Leichhardt

The food here is excellent!! Highly recommend. We are regulars and order at least once or twice a week. Always fresh and tasty, the staff are friendly when you call them up. Sometimes the food may take some time for delivery but it is definitely worth the wait. The chicken curry and salt and pepper fish are a family favourite!

Always fresh food. Have to try Mr Q fried rice. Best in Sydney inner west. Mongolian beef is my go to, just delicious.

Very poor food. I was on a food high from giving the Twisted Indian 5 stars earlier in the week. If you want good Chinese, go to Fantong on Norton. It is quality and Mr Q is far from it. I ordered for 3, myself and 2 boys aged 11 and 14. They have eaten honey chicken from many places and both wanted that. When I arrived a few minutes late for my pickup they had the order wrong so I had to wait for about 15 mins for them to make the rest. I paid $87 for 2 serves dumplings, 2 honey chicken, mongolian beef, fried rice and boiled rice. I asked if anyone checked the serves before they were bagged and the excuse was that some of them had bad eyesight and usually they just get one order for each serve. V poor excuse. The dumplings and mongolian beef were actually not bad - 2 to 3 stars. The honey chicken was the worst my kids had ever eaten and they could not stomach more than a couple of mouthfuls. We will never go back.

Been ordering from here for years, am SICK of the dreadful delivery service, will never use again. Due tonite @ 6:50, arrived, cold, 7:30 after TWO phone calls & del driver who could not understand instructions over phone, instructions WHICH ARE CLEARLY WRITTEN ON ORDER anyway! Always are! Worst service in Sydney, they've lost me.

Sampled their fried rice, sweeet and sour pork and short soup and all items were absolutely delicious and speedily delivered. Thank you Mr Q's, will definitely be ordering again in the future - give them a try today! e

Cosy restaurant nestled on Norton Street at the Parramatta Road end offering a nice selection of dumplings and noodles. Highly recommend the beef brisket and duck noodles which are packed full of flavour.

***edited 12JAN20***

The dumplings are amazing here! Really delicious handmade Lamb, Coriander And Spring Onion ones that were pan fried were packed full of flavour and had a great pastry to it. The Roast Duck Noodles are excellent too. Lovely service to boot and this small restaurant is a great place for a quick meal.

I love Fantong! For years we've been heading to the city for a good Chinese feed. Now that Fantong is here we can just head up the street. The stand out dishes for me are the prawn and fish wontons in spicy sichuan sauce, the duck rolls, the shredded chicken breast with sichuan pepper, the beijing style shredded pork, the kung pao chicken and the sauteed green beans. I'm sure the other menu items are tasty- I just order combinations of these dishes as they are fantastic.

Great little dumpling and Asian restaurant on Norton St. A refreshing addition to the usual dining options available in Leichhardt.
These guys make a mean dumpling. We absolutely loved their lamb dumplings!
Really great housemade food on the menu and a good wine list too.

I love this place. I used to go to Ashfield for good Chinese Food, now I go to Leichhardt. I have not had a thing on the menu that I havent enjoyed. I highly recommend the dumplings (all are good but I prefer the fried Pork dumplings - delish). They recently renovated and the place is comfy and stylish downstairs (they have an upstairs too, but havent ventured up there). They have good quality beers and nice wine at a very reasonable price. Perfect if you want to have a boozy dinner with friends (or an ordinary dinner!). The staff are great, attentive and friendly, a family run business, run by good people and the food is great - we keep going back. Highly recommend.

Really nice, clean restaurant with friendly and helpful staff. The beef brisket soup was delicious, and the eggplant with peanut sauce was perfectly cooked. And so cheap! Definitely coming back.

Vegie dumplings were doughy and not very tasty. We ordered the steamed eggplant dish which had a sauce that was not to my liking but the worst part was it was hard and really undercooked! The shallot pancake was pretty standard can't complain about that however would not return. Very disappointed as I LOVE dumplings and was very excited to find this restaurant had opened in the area.
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
A fàntǒng is a wooden bucket that cooked rice is served from. Traditionally, good quality ones made by artisans were watertight, but poorer quality ones were not. The word later morphed to describe a good-for-nothing person useful only for eating rice. In a positive sense it can also be employed to mean come and eat, and that’s just what local residents Chris Shearman and Autumn Qiu are hoping you’ll do at their new restaurant: Fàntǒng.Up until three months ago, Leichhardt residents generally had to make the trip east or west - to Haymarket or Ashfield - for their closest dumpling fix. Shearman and Qiu decided that it was time for that to change. Building upon their experience at Brewery Espresso in Erskine Street – a popular café that morphed into a hybrid dumpling joint under their stewardship – they’ve opened in a two-level terrace on Norton Street. At the moment it’s only operating on...

My partner and i decided to try somewhere local as we usually head into the city when we feel like dumplings. I always go past this place on the bus and we decided to give it a shot. I really did want to like this place but unfortunately was let down by a number of things. There was no atmosphere and australian staff made it feel unauthentic. The dumplings were bland and extremely oily.

Fan Tong is a new Chinese restaurant that had opened on Norton Street. It's been open just over a month and I finally got the chance to pop in for lunch on Saturday. I ordered the Zha Jiang Mian which is slow cooked soy pork mince, master stock egg, pickled vegetables, coriander and the delicious handmade noodles. The noodles were the highlight and the rest of the ingredients were well balanced and a decent size without being to heavy. The only thing I think it needed was a bit of chilli which I asked the staff and they happily provided. The dumplings looked good and very popular at other tables, I will definitely try them next time.

Amazingly flavours and a lovely place to dine. Had dumplings (pork and cabbage, pork and chives, lamb), duck rolls, pork bao burger, and BBQ por shallot pancake with a lovely bottle of Riesling. Everything was fantastic, especially the dumplings. Also shared an egg tart for desert which was flakey and just wonderful.

$96 for two people (with a bottle of wine) who really ate like three people-great value

Can't wait to go back and try the rest of their menu.

Service was warm and professional.

If you're a Leichhardt local, get down there now. If you're not, travel!
