Review Frattini Italian Kitchen - Leichhardt

This long established corner restaurant constantly serves top quality Italian food in a clean, smart refined dining area. The service is professional but with a typical Italian casual style. Frattini probably serves the best restaurant quality Italian food in the inner west and I can thoroughly recommend that one tries it.

Generally enjoyed the outing. Nice white cloths. Restaurant well set out and fresh looking. Owner very friendly and explained the menu and wines well. Good menu of Italian favourites. No wine list so had to accept owners suggestions. This was OK but limiting. Food good but not fantastic. If it was my local italian restaurant I would be happy but as we travelled a distance to come we have alot of other and better choices closer to home.

Lovely little restaurant with outstanding food and a warm inviting ambience. The owner Tony goes to great lengths to make you feel welcome hence the longevity of this nice little Italian eatery which we have been going to for over 20 years. Highly recommend it for food , atmosphere and service in the nicer part of Leichhardt.

Fast & friendly service. The lady serving us for lunch was attentive, knew her stuff, and offered everything we needed. The food was served quickly which was great given it was a business lunch. The Lamb ragu was all over me at the end it was so good.

Wow. What a restaurant. Went to dinner here twice last week with my friends, Jeff, Suzee & Billy. Have to say this place is up there with the best. The most amazing prawn dish I've ever tasted. The service is great. The best mushrooms. This place has it all. I live on the north shore and there is nothing like this in my neck of the woods. Highly recommended.

Service was pretty terrible, intermittently getting noticed but not waited on for half hour and being significantly low priority in comparison to anyone the owner knew. Fair enough give returning customers more service, that's healthy for business and understandable, but to wait half hour for bread and then our order taken is ridiculous. Our neighbouring table had the same issue!

The food is superb. If you haven't tried their grilled Scampi, you haven't lived. There is nothing frozen about their Marinara which I shared with my Wife and I had the whole snapper which was Fresh and cooked perfectly. The staff are extremely friendly and when my wife asked about the boscaiola, the waiter brought her an entre size portion to try on the house.

We have enjoyed eating here many times and not been disappointed. Unfortunately this was not the case for us this time. While the staff were their usual friendly selves, the food was disappointingly bland. I can only hope that the chef was having an off night.

If you would like an overpriced and underseasoned dining experience—this is it! <br/><br/>Our family attended here for Mother’s Day. Reviews of this place have been mixed (as you can see ) but decided to give them a chance. When we sat down, we were told by the owner that it was one of the waiters first time in the kitchen and we needed to be patient with when our food came out (in terms of the timing). We said thank you for notifying us and then ordered. <br/><br/>To start, we ordered some entrees including garlic bread, and mushrooms. Firstly, each slice of bread Is $2.50 each (and is baguette like bread so the pieces are tiny) —rude. It was unfortunate that our both our garlic and herb bread was under seasoned and dry. Disappointing. Following this we ordered mushrooms for starters, only to be served one and a HALF mushrooms. At first I thought perhaps there was a mistake. When I questioned the young waitress she told me that was the serving size. Never have I been to an italian restaurant that served me a half mushroom. It was embarrassing actually.<br/><br/>Following this we continued our underwhelming and overpriced dining experience with mains. My Mum ordered the risotto. It did not look like risotto. Normally risotto is cheesy and smooth. My mums dish did not resemble risotto and instead resembled something along the lines of boiled rice with vegetables and a tiny bit of cheese mixed in. And once again, under seasoned. I ordered octopus that was under seasoned. Another member of my family ordered the gamberi with sugo Rosso. This dish did taste nice , however to be charged $33.90 for three prawns is quite frankly, highway robbery. This is not a hatted restaurant. <br/><br/>Taking my Mum here for Mother’s Day was a very embarrassing experience. All food lacked salt, with the exception of our prawns in sugo rosso. <br/><br/>I spoke with the owner and he dismissed most of my comments with “that’s what we serve“ followed by “I did tell you.. that we have a new cook”. Disappointing experience and let down. Never again. Spare yourself the experience and go elsewhere.

My wife has been wanting to go to Fratteni for 10 years.<br/><br/>and upon seeing the menu i thought this was going to be good. they have been here for ages and must really know how to do Italian well.<br/><br/>Look I want to give this place a better rating....but I cant... there was nothing wrong with the service; which was attentive and efficient.<br/><br/>It was the food. <br/><br/>There was 7 of us and all bar one was disappointed. we all got different meals so a variety on our table, the food was Bland, <br/><br/>2 x seafood dishes using frozen seafood, was most disappointing. <br/><br/>garlic bread $2.50 for 1 small piece (where on the menu it says pieces)<br/><br/>Bruscetta was like a poor mans tomato on toast.<br/><br/>meatballs in tomato sauce- Meatball was a giant bland rissole and the sauce tasted like it came straight out of a can.<br/><br/>overall really expensive for what it is, too many better, cheaper places around<br/><br/>wont be returning<br/><br/>Sorry for giving you a bad rap

Love their gorgonzola gnocchi which no on their menu, special order please, as suggested by my favor Italian neighbor must eat gnocchi (I love very cheesy source). Absolutely great service and delicious foods, the foods are sooo fresh, and the bloody mascarpone is Dessert To Die For... Will definitely be back!! Yum yum so yummy 😉

Staff appeared rushed, but still friendly.  Music was too loud.  Fettuccine was perfectly cooked "al dente".  Caprese was good.  Risotto Vegeteriana was too salty for my taste.

Very busy, sunny dining room filled with a surprisingly eclectic crowd. Lovely linen napkins, but cramped tables squished next to each other. Front dining room the pick, as back dining room has an uninterrupted view of a gyprock wall. No music, but the rabble of the crowd lifts the mood, perhaps too much - I'm pretty good in noisy spaces, but with no sound dampening, very difficult to hear an ordinary conversation.<br/><br/>BYO wine, even on Friday lunch, a highlight.<br/><br/>We start with Bruschetta, which is delightful. Bread soft yet crunchy, tomatoes tasty and elegantly coated with delicious EVO. Scallops however overwhelmed by cheesy white sauce. Zucchini flowers good. There were however 4 of us, so to serve plates of 3 (without suggesting an upsize) was odd.<br/><br/>Mains of 3 good sized meatballs in tomato sugo was yum. Homely, yet piquant. Nice basket of accompanying bread more than sufficient to mop up the sauce.<br/><br/>Caprese salad only ok - buffalo mozzarella was hard, mass produced.<br/><br/>Macchiato was rich yet balanced.<br/><br/>Seasoned waitress' contempt for customers was palpable. Find something else to do with your life that doesn't irritate you so very much.

1,5 hours and counting!!! We've order 1,5 hours ago and the place was only half full when we got in. We got our own menus off the counter since no one was attending the table. We haven't served the water we ordered. Still waiting for the dishes on the first and probably the last visit.

Best traditional italian restaurant I have been to. I have been coming to this place for a long time never been disappointed. My fav is the frattini special ricotta and spinach dumplings in a beautiful Gorgonzola sauce. Family owned and run business and when you see italian women in the kitchen you are already off to a good start. Who ever doesn't like the food here simply doesn't know much about food.

Disappointing & overpriced. My dining companion's entree of mussels were delicious, but that's about it. Measly serving of scallops for me, followed by us both grimly finishing some tough veal parmigianas, distinctly lacking in flavour. The cassata was a further disappointment, with little in the way of texture and taste. Won't be back :(<br/>

Delicious. The fish Barramundi was great. I can't believe so it was brilliant taste and yummi. Desert with freshest Mascarpone creAm are unbelievable. I felt like my mum cooked it for me from fresh organic ingredients!!<br/>It was so taste!!

Reliable. I have eaten lunch here frequently, and dinner less often. I particularly enjoy lunch as the waitress has come to know me and will suggest specials and gives me attentive but not overwhelming service. The food is always good. I had an excellent trippa (tripe) entree one time, and a delicious osso buco special. Great place for a natter over good food during the day, but it can get noisy when full.

Everything good apart from forced tip. Had black squid linguini which was very nice and succulent taste. <br/><br/>Steak was good and overall meal apart from the view outside of a petrol station.<br/><br/>Also a bit cheeky of the owner automatically charge large tip on eftpos machine.

Rip off. Recently attended this restaurant for a party and found it incredibly disappointing. I had the chicken involtini, which was two tiny portions of chicken floating in tomato sauce. The vegies that accompanied were mediocre, some sloppy over steamed spinach and broccoli. All this for just $29.80. I could have had a much better and cheaper lunch in the Marketplace food court. I have no idea why this place is popular.

Very sad. We just had a very disappointing experience tonight with apaulling service from a women who bearly spoke a word and did not excuse herself and just reached across and took the plates. The food was ordinary which is unusual for Leichhardt. Then when we were leaving, we pointed out the bad service to the owner and he just ignored us.<br/><br/>Please do not waste your money or time

Consistently A Winner. Ate here last weekend and the food and service were fabulous. My partner and I shared the Frattini Special for entree - it is consistently of excellent quality. Both our main courses were eaten with relish and our child enjoyed Spaghetti Bolognese and ate every morsel. Our waiter was courteous, charming and made the whole experience one we hope to repeat in the near future.

HOSPITAL FOOD. Very disappointed, very noisy, very expensive. I have had better food in public hospitals. Veal with white wine & mushrooms was tasteless, no hint of wine, just thin gravy covering a broiled piece of meat. 2 small sprigs of broccoli & some spinach, no potatoes or any decent vegies. $29 for that, it was terrible. None of our party liked their food. Don't bother, much better in Leichardt. Shameful.

Not So Great Expectations. Did that actually just happen? A table of seven and they got one of our meals wrong and served veal, yes veal of all things instead of swordfish and we had to wear it as majically swordfish became unavailable when they realised their error. It became a no charge, but that was just plain WRONG. C'mon! And then no wait staff for us to order dessert we had to go up and ask to be served whilst the owner/manager, whatever his role was, sat and chatted with a table. I'm relatively forgiving but this restaurant is just plain not up to speed, simple as that.

Amazing Italian!. Amazing authentic italian food. Great service and beautiful, fresh cuisine! Cant wait to go back and try out some of the other dishes.

Frattinis is the best authentic traditional fresh Italian restaurants in Sydney great service, value for money, family run business, makes you feel welcome and at home and most importantly consistent you know what your getting every time you step in the door. Highly recommended.

Great Value for the taste!. Frattini is the cloest Italian restaurant from my place. <br/>They don't have much new inventions on the menu but serve good quality of food.<br/><br/>Fish of the day and the bread had big quantity and were delicious. I also tried Salmon Penne, that was like a perfect creamy taste! <br/><br/>Also, they served us vegetables separately. I think that;s clever thus the nature of vegies won't be affected by pasta or meat.<br/><br/>The restaurant is not too big though.

Not value for money. Entrees quite small but very tasty. Main courses not worth the average price of $30. Over priced for what you get. We both ordered main course and was told they come with vegetables. 2 small stalks of broccoli and quarter hand full of spinach turns up! My husband ordred steak, which looked like it was 140g or so....for $30! Not even 1 small potato came with it - just a slice of tomato. Swordfish was tasty but bit over cooked and quite a thin slice.<br/>Wouldnt' go there again. Wouldn't recommend it. Better places in Leichhardt.

WOW! Best Italian in Sydney!!. I felt like I was back in Italy. Food! Service! Hospitality! Nowhere else in Sydney have I experienced such authenticity (and I've been around!) True to its name, the frattini ('brothers') run the joint in this beautiful family-run business. <br/>If you go, try the specials. The ricotta balls are incredible! The whitebait fritters – sensational!<br/>If you're after traditional, amazing food... book yourself table!

Been coming to this place for 13yrs, they have never disappointed, food is always fresh full of flavor & truly Italian, service is friendly without trying, I'd recommend this place for any occasion, keep it up Frattinis.

Well executed, proper italian. Good service. We dined as a party of 5 midweek on a cold night. Dishes we enjoyed included Fritter of whitebait, grilled field mushrooms, mussels in red sauce, Osso bucco, Spatchcock and Meatballs. Desserts were simple, light and a delicious end to the meal. I've walked past this place for years, intending to go, and am glad I finally did.
Dear Beatrice
Don't bother. Expensive mains, mediocre food. The only thing decent here was the service, but that's not the main reason I go out to eat...Given that I barely cook, the fact that I can cook better pasta at home out of a jar tells you how great this place is.

Mains are about 27-30 if you don't get fish. Very expensive for what you get. Food is okay not worth the price
