In a little backstreet of Leichhardt, you’ll find a hip little cafe with a great vibe. A converted warehouse space behind the roller door with plenty of tables spaced out (to meet Covid19 safe measures), and a buzzing crowd of customers. We love the industrial look with high roof, concrete floors, exposed brick wall and plywood, wire backed chairs and wooden tables which is certainly fitting with the space and area.
Really liked the cafe’s vibe. Very relaxed and chill. The menu has a good variety so good for groups. My friends and I shared everything on the photo (truffle egg, steak sandy, hotcakes) and every dish was delicious. My favorite was the truffle egg. Coffee was on point also 👌🏻 really nice weekend brunch spot
Good place to get coffee and brunch. Visited during Saturday brunch, didnt take too long to get a table. Tried the truffle eggs and a scroll. Both we good but the coffee was the best part!!
Had a coffee this Sunday morning, very quick in service and really nice coffee. It’s a pet friendly place so you can also take your dog or cat with you as well and they have good breakfast options you can give it a try

Also it’s a pet friendly place special marks for that😝
Had a delicious breakfast at The Carpenter in Leichhardt. It is a popular place so we had to wait for a table but it was worth it!
The menu was appealing and there were a number of dishes I could have ordered. It was creative without being too left of field. I also thought the prices were reasonable given the quality of the food.
I ordered the “Pretty Peas” dish. Consisted of mashed peas, halloumi, leek, salad and battered bacon! Also came with sourdough toast. I also added poached eggs. It was delicious. For health reasons, I probably wouldn’t make a habit of ordering battered fried bacon on a regular basis but I really enjoyed it today. I’m hoping the mashed peas and salad compensated!
My husband ordered the egg and bacon roll but swapped the roll for sourdough toast. He said it was very tasty. Coffee was delicious.
Staff members were friendly and didn’t mind if we made alterations to the menu. Cafe is also child friendly with high chairs available.
We had a great experience and will certainly return. Highly recommended!
In Short: The Carpenter is the first nail in the rebuild of Leichhardt as a destination for foodies. A rustic space with a crew that are doing great things with coffee, and creating dishes that would have lines forming in cafes in Newtown or Surry Hills. My tip for coffee lovers is to try a Sparking Single.
Greeted with a warm smile, prompt friendly service. The beef salad was fresh and full of flavors with a generous amount of beef! Coffee by the little Marriott proves to be high quality. We will be coming back!
Great coffee and nice food options. Child friendly with high chairs avail. Enjoyed the bacon and egg roll & truffle scrambled eggs though eggs could have been cooked a smidge less.
This place does the best damn cheese toastie I’ve ever had in my life, and a bargain for $8. I’ve had it five times in the last three weeks. It’s that good. Three cheeses, with jack cheese, Swiss, and Parmesan so it’s not super creamy like most triple
cheese dishes. And the milk bun is just delectable.
I tried the burger, which was ok, but for some reason the patty was almost double the size of the bun which means I needed cutlery to eat it. And bizarrely has cucumbers on it. I also find it odd that they offer only organic sodas, and sugar free ones at that, when their menu doesn’t have an overall healthy/organic vibe. But they’re new and trying things out, and doing a damn good job at it.
Ricotta hot cake was good. Enjoyed that it was more savoury than your usual overly sugared pancake concoctions but it needs a coulis or something else to complete it. Could be excellent otherwise.
Would give them a 5 star just for the toastie, but giving them 4 because they have potential for a 5 but are not quite there yet.
Have the toastie. It’s the bees knees.
Arriving at this newly opened Leichhardt cafe on its first Saturday of trading we were greeted with huge smiles and warm hellos. The staff couldn't have been any friendlier than if they'd been welcoming the much anticipated return of a long lost relative.
The cafe is a slick, contemporary open space, with strategically placed plants; I was rather green with envy over the gorgeous fiddle leaf tree. Beautiful coffee is served in beautiful ceramic ware, and a brunch of cheese burgers and a bacon and egg roll were spot on.
Ordered a truffle egg with sour dough and extra hash brown today. Although the extra hash brown was quite costly for its size, but the truffle egg is really good and they actually used real truffle paste instead of truffle oil.
My girlfriend ordered a hotcake and she also said it’s the best hotcake she had in Sydney.

Nice spot on the side street of flood st, quite hidden, but once you find it, you will always remember where the Carpenter is. Besides, there is a lot of street parkings. Come in always with a group of friends.
I had a pull pork roll today, it was tasty and juicy, love the green salad on side, add a bit of healthy elements :)
Their music and atmosphere is great and the staff are polite & efficient.
Their Coffee is super sophisticated !
Will definitely become our new meeting point.
Highly recommended.
P.s. the kids are having fun with the tree logs XD
This new kid on the block is one of the best cafes in Leichhardt. Address says Flood Street but the entrance is just off to the side. It has a warehouse feel yet its modern, light & airy. The design is modern & crisp as are the staff who are friendly & efficient. Start with a well made Little Marionette coffee or perhaps a honey like single origin from Ethiopia. The menu has good coverage for different tastes & is sprinkled with contemporary noted. Like Testsuya's truffled paste with scrambled eggs, or smashed avo on black star pastry croissant. Tradition items like hashbrowns are made so well - golden, super crispy, fluffy inside with the perfect sprinkle of sea salt on top. Just wish there were 2 for $5 instead of only 1. If your in need of something light or just a snack, there is a great range of pastries & sweets that line the smooth shiny counter. So happy to have discovered this little gem & looking forward to trying more goodies!
Wow. Really impressive coffee. So balanced. That takes art. I got mine with oat milk, but I'll try normal milk the next time. FYI, only regular sizes come in ceramic. Large is only in takesaway cups.
Great music, too, without smashing it in your face.
I'd take a date here for lunch if I lived in the area.
Saturday morning 10am arrival. No booking. Had to wait 20 mins for a table as we had dogs and there is only a small section to sit in with dogs because someone complained about dogs inside. Service is lovely. Coffee is good. Takeaway wait for coffee is reasonable. Ordered eggs and toastie and coffees $41 total for 2 people.Great vibe. Highly recommend but book if you don't want to wait. Excellent addition to the Leichhardt area away from Norton St. Re-awakening of this awesome area!
Coffee is amazing, ordered the Smashed Avocado Croissant with Bacon and scrambled eggs. Tasted really fresh and was very generous with the amount they gave. Service staff were very friendly, split bill is allowed, food was quick to arrive. Place is pet friendly and the menu has a lot of interesting items on it to make you want to go back again and again. Highly recommended.
Great coffee (roasted in-house from what I gathered), and delicious bacon & egg roll. I didn't enjoy the cheese toasty as much, I thought it was a bit bland and dry. My friend enjoyed the croissant, and the banana bread so 3/4 is still solid. Service was also very friendly, and the venue is nice and open.
This place is tucked out of view on a little residential street, I'd recommend the detour if you're in the area.
Prices as expected in the Inner West (unfortunately).
Fantastic Cafe hidden from the main drag.
Coffee is on point and the staff are friendly. The food is really flavoursome and you can tell they really care about the food they're making.
Surprised with this one actually. Coffee and tea were completely on point. The food was delicious and came out quite quickly which is nice when you have you a bit on. The truffle scrambled eggs was great and the not-so-shakshuka(?) eggs was also great. Overall, relatively happy.
