Review Solitary - Leura

Rahul Malik
Had dinner here and enjoyed ourselves...the food was nicely presented and tasty. It is pricey though...expect to spend up to $100pp. Service was fine as well...the decor seems a bit bland and could use an update.

After a 2h hiking trip we saw the kiosk and were wondering if we could get some drinks to go. After the first impression we thought it's actually more a restaurant but the waitress was very helpful and took time even if it was very busy at this day. The view is impressive and we can highly recommend the milkshakes (to go for refreshing during the hiking).

We drove up from Sydney to the Blue Mountains for the day and had a wonderfully delicious lunch at Solitude. The Persian-spiced chicken and the barramundi were mouth-wateringly good! We topped the meal off with a very tasty dessert of vanilla bean ice cream. We will definitely be back!

I've just been to a wedding at Solitary. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. The canapes and beer or sparkling wine flowed freely. For the meal there was an option of meat or fish with salad. My meat was cooked excellently. Thanks to everyone involved for making this a special day.

I ate at Solitary with my wife on her birthday on June 2015 and it was excellent. We went there midweek for lunch and the food was mostly excellent. We had duck salad for entree with chicken amd steak for main then citrus tart for desert. The duck salad was 5* the steak was 4.5* the chicken was 4* and the citrus tart was 4* and the service was excellent on the day as well. We might go back soon and try lunch again and see if its still as good as last time.

Cute cottage and good views. Went for lunch. Food good quality but small servings for the price. $30 for a salmon salad that was not very big or filling. Over $30 for pasta and meatballs. Service was a little brusque with plates placed with a thump on the table. Server was trying to be pleasant but felt forced.

Poor service. We turned up for a late lunch on Sunday. I ordered a "smoked, roast turkey Brie bagel" and my husband a chicken leak pie with drinks, and the intent to order dessert. I was dissatisfied with my bagel- two slices of turkey that looked like package sand which meat ($19-$20 entree price). I ate half and my husband shared the remaining of his meal, the staff didn't acknowledge the fact that half of my meal lay their sitting there for 20m. When they finally came to clear our plates asking me if I wanted to box it to take away, I explained my disappointment. THEY DID NOTHING. Not an offer for a coffee or dessert or anything. Sincerely disappointed in the service, and despite half of our food being good I WILL NOT BE RETURNING. There are plenty of options for good food, and better service in the mountains. I recommend you try them before dining at Solitary!

Wonderful spot for a special lunch or dinner. We had a large group and had booked well in advance and it couldn't have been better. Wait staff were more than obliging, food was fabulous and the view...WOW! Thanks again for such a wonderful day

4 years ago I had my wedding here and every single person at our wedding raves about the food and the service and how lovely the people were. We’ve been coming here ever since and every single time we’ve had the best experience. You simply cannot fault this beautiful restaurant, from the food and the people to the breathtaking views. I simply cannot recommend it enough.

I love Solitary Restaurant, it is my favourite place to eat in the Blue Mountains. The food and service is outstanding. Any excuse to go there from Sydney. Thank you for a fabulous lunch yesterday!

The food was fabulous from entree through to dessert and the staff lovely. It was a great place to enjoy our 20th anniversary dinner. Will definitely go back

The food was delicious, the location is beautiful and the staff very friendly. Would definitely recommend eating here. A special, unique quiet place away from the mad lunch rush in Leura.

This is a must do when you visit Blue Mountains. I have to say the food was absolutely amazing! Thank you again for having us!

The setting reminds me of holidaying in a country cottage. The magnificent view was only eclipsed by the food, the service, and the staff.

Gorgeous hosts with views and food to match this is a must especially on good days regarding weather as you can sit out overlooking the magnificent views ..

Delightful establishment with great service and stunning views. The coffee and scones were delicious. A perfect stop along the Prince Henry Cliff Top Walk.

The food is beyond exceptional here and priced amazingly, not to mention the breathe taking views. I’ll defiantly be back soon.

Exceptional, a bit noisy for us hearing impaired, but the food, is just incredible.
Those Who Love To Eat
This place has been on my bucket list for quite some time. We came here for lunch and they were essentially booked out, but managed to get a table. The dining room boasts an amazing view of the mountains and was so picturesque.
All the ingredients were fresh and sourced locally that added to the flavour.
We ordered a Pioneer's plate and a lamb shank pie. I must say, I don't really like potatoes, but the way it was fried, it had the perfect crunch! I was highly impressed.
The meals were cooked to perfection and it was evident that the chef has an eye for detail. Now I can see why they were fully booked out for lunch.
The restaurant is on the pricey side but it is well worth the quality food that you are served.

The sunset with mountain view is really fantastic. The complimentary entree onion soup tastes good! The eye fillet and the barramundi fillet are delicious. The staff is with passion and the restaurant is decorated festively. Nice!

Headed to Solitary for lunch during our day trip in Blue Mountains as the pictures from the website looked awesome. It's a quiet and serene restaurant located in one of the hilly areas in Blue Mountain. There is a big space out front for those wanting to enjoy the scenery. There is an all day brunch section and also entree and mains to choose from for our lunch. The confit duck leg was good as well as the spiced rub eye fillet of beef with Yorkshire pudding. The other dishes were a bit of a miss, especially the chicken and the trout. Service was nice and friendly.

The most delightful lunchtime spot to view the magnificent blue mountains, a very good wine list, plenty of warmth and French onion soup with eggs blue cheese croutons! The saffron custard with caviar and crab was such a beautiful treat. This is definitely a place you need to book in advance. Very luckily for us friends booked and paid. Thanks

I can't understand why Solitary has less than a 4.5 rating? We came here for lunch a year ago and it was spectacular. We came again today 12/05/17 and the food today was no less spectacular. Entre of slow cooked beef cheek was sublime and faultless, rich in flavour and to die for! Mains were confit duck with lentils, sauerkraut and cream potato for me and pork neck with Asian greens, rice and XO sauce for my wife. Both mains were rich in flavour and faultless in execution and we washed them down with a glass of Pino Noir and a local pale ale from Lithgow. For desert we had their signature chocolate mouse cake with honeycomb, caramel peanut and banana and was a perfect finish to an amazing lunch and cements Solitary as our favourite restaurant in the Blue Mountains. This easily deserves 5 stars, with incredible food and great service.

Very surprising experience here. Just a little bit waiting time but gain much more than should be.

We had a special Duck Pasta and Eye steak. Tender and Juicy. Wonderful people in family feel restaurant. This one is must-go destination in Blue Mountain.

A restaurant that gives you a warm and home feeling the minute you walk in, then once sat down, the view speaks for itself.
The floor staff are so calm and make you feel at home, the atmosphere is cosy and once you read the menu you are in a chefs heaven 😊
The flavours, the presentation & most of the taste on every dish, from entrée to dessert you won't be disappoint! Yes this is a hidden secret place that should be known to all.
With my knowledge and experience in restaurants, do yourself a favour and cone to this secret wonderful place 🎆

I went here with family and had a wonderful dinner. The staff were friendly and the food was delicious. Highly recommend the gnocchi.
We had a lovely bottle (or 3) of Chardonnay too that was really reasonably priced!

Delicious food, great wine, good service and beautiful location!! What more can you want.

Will definitely visit again when I'm next in Leura.

Snobby staff and an entitled chef.
We arrived and were seated next to the entrance even though the restaurant was empty. Then they gave us the garden as well as the a la carte menu. After we where ready to order the waiter told us that they are expecting a group so we cannot order the a la carte only the pre ready garden menu since the chief needed to prepare for the group. This was a signal for us to leave the place. The restaurant looks great and I hope this was an isolated unfortunate experience we had.

A magnificent spot with delectable food. One of my favorite spots on Earth. Everything is fresh, and imaginatively created on menu's that change consistently.
Wonderful Staff. Wish them all well.

WHERE IS THE KIOSK?. IT SAYS CAFE AND KIOSK BUT THERE IS NO KIOSK.

The Solitary Restaurant sits, naturally enough, in splendid isolation at the top of a hill near Katoomba in the Blue Mountains, with spectacular views. It's decorated in muted shades ("hot chocolate" or "mushroom" according to your preference) in a strangely old-fashioned but contemporary style. A group of us arrived seeking shelter on an unseasonally cold and windy day, and enjoyed, variously, tasty smoked fish soup, rich and fragrant banana bread with honey butter, and a moist chocolate brownie with vani

In keeping with the theme of our relaxing mid-week getaway, we decided we wanted to lunch at a price we wouldn't usually were we back in Sydney. Prior to making our way to Leura, I came across Solitary's website and at the sight of the photograph on the m

Solitary Restaurant - just wonderful!. I recently celebrated my birthday here and the owners and staff were wonderful. The food was delicious and everyone had a great time. Can't speak highly enough!

Group function - Great service, great food, great view!. We had a birthday booking for a group of 20. Due to the size of the group we had a alternate set menu - the food was great and came out in a timely manner. Lynne was attentive in making sure we had everything we needed and we couldn't have been happier with how the night went! Thanks Lynne and co!

Beautiful location, pleasant staff, delicious food! A little pricey, but you pay for the views right!? We will be back :)

Quiet and good for a romantic evening. Taking a chance, we booked and drove from Sydney for a special occasion. For whatever reason, we were two of a total of four people in the whole place! The waitstaff were lovely (albeit looking a bit like school kids) and the food was very good quality, well cooked and decently portioned. A bit appetite was catered for sharing 2x entree/main/dessert and the suggested wine was well matched. Service was a bit slow, and the ambiance needs work - music and lighting please! but we had a lovely evening nonetheless.

Sadly disappointed. Having had previously good experiences at Solitary we took two friends there for lunch. We ordered four different mains between us, all of which were very small and of poor quality (I had an expensive steak which was tiny enough to eat in one gulp, which helped given how tough it was). We might possibly have ordered dessert but the two waitstaff, who had neglected us throughout, were not to be found, and thus we did not order further. I seriously suspected they were two schoolkids on work experience. We paid and left: no thank you, no having the door opened for the disabled person, no goodbyes. It was a disaster: never again.

The food was lovely but for the price you would expect a main course larger than something a small child would eat. Given that it took more than an hour for the food to arrive after ordering it is possible some of it evaporated....

The reason given for the wait was that everybody ordered mains. Which surprised me as it was dinner and I assumed, obviously incorrectly, that most diners order mains for dinner.

The attitude give when my partner complained, which was to imply that we didn't understand how to order or eat in a fine dining establishment, was completely unnecessary.

I had a booking for 8pm and arrived with my partner on time, the menu looked delicious, if not on the pricey side. We placed our order with our drinks (so within a few minutes of arriving) and ordered mains only.
Over an hour and a complementary tiny teacup of French onion soup later our food finally arrived (we had to ask where it was) and our "mains" could BARELY be described as entree sized. Literally tiny. I'm a slow eater as I tend to talk a lot, but our food was eaten in less than five minutes.
When the bill came the manager (I think?) said "everyone ordered mains so they got backed up". I'm no restauraunter, however I thought the idea was that everyone ordered mains. Isn't that how a restaurant works? I told the lady I wasn't happy paying the full bill and she said she'd take the 15% weekend surcharge off (so it was still over $100 for two glasses of wine and two tiny mains) I explained that I wanted the discount as I wasn't happy with the wait or the portion size to which she responded "it's not usual that people only order mains". Well, I tend to skip entree myself, and for $40 a meal, I expect to be fairly satisfied. The food did taste ok to be fair but overall, the wait, the price and the bad attitude of the manager (the waitresses were lovely and apologetic - I felt sorry for them) I would not recommend this place or ever go back. Off to The servo now to buy a snack to tide me over!
The 5 Professionals
The 5 professionals arrived for dinner with big appetites after spending the day exploring the Blue Mountains. The restaurant's ambience was enhanced by an open fire but with only a couple of tables occupied, the place lacked a little life and energy. The wait staff were quiet and uninviting. We ordered goats cheese and leek soufles and salmon as our entees and pork, beef and gnochi as our mains. The soufle was not quite a vision of fluffy air and was served in a bowl.

Service was slow and uninspiring.

Pea and fennel soup with smoked cod was offered as an appetizer - it was delighfully creamy and balanced.

Bread was not offered for a fee - something unaccustomed and slightly insulting. When additional bread was requested, 2 pieces were brought to a table of 5.

The mains were generous portions and excellently executes - the beef and pork were perfectly cooked and the gnocchi creamy. The sides of mash potato, cauliflower and green vegetables were ver

Delicious food and friendly service, but the best thing about Solitary is the view. Cute tables outside allow for an incredible panorama. Very relaxing atmosphere.

Food was absolutely delicious! The four of us had a wonderful lunch, exquisite main + dessert. Service very slow though.

Gorgeous lunch in Leura. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of food at Solitary.

I find most places in Leura overpriced understandably as it's a tourist-y place.

Located a few minutes drive from Leura Mall, Solitary feels a million miles away with a lovely view. My hubby had the crispy duck leg which he says was truly delicious. My gnocchi had a yummy crust and was much tastier than the usual.

I noticed some negative comments about the service. We had an excellent waiter - he had just started - who was attentive and accommodated all our requests eg. we moved from under the trees to the marquee.

Highly recommended for a long lunch in the mountains.

Good night out. Surprised to read some bad reviews. Whilst the service was slow, it was friendly and helpful. Neither my wife nor I cold fault the food either, and a about $30 each for mains I was good value for that money.

Lukewarm food was the theme of the night. My soft shell crab was okay, the dipping sauce that went with was overflavoured. The confit of duck had great flavours, again was barely warm and portion size was tiny. My companion's entree terinne & eye fillet were fine - bread & butter Gorgonzola pud was a highlight. Service could have been better, our waitress had the memory of a goldfish

Does not live up to its website claims. I agree with Jess - disinterested service, hit or miss food at unjustified prices (the meal price shown on Urbanspoon is out of date).
By-the-glass wine served without showing the bottle and when I asked to see same the hand-written date on the label revealed that it had been opened three days before. Ocean trout ordered medium rare arrived well-done. Herbed butter component of the sirloin steak meal arrived after I'd started and was so cold and hard it just sat on the meat without melting.
Chocolate panna cotta didn't seem like panna cotta and the chocolate (sauce?) seemed more like a commercial syrup.
Oh - the affogatto was quite good.

I think it was a classic 'country town tries to do gourmet without success' I thought this place might have been one of the country town gems that gets it right. They had a reasonable wine list, beautiful outlook but unfortunately the food was just simple and tasteless. I started with the bungalow pork tonnato style which appeared as nanna's roast pork thinly sliced with a bit of Parmesan and, over cooked sage leaves drizzled with, like, mayo?! The main course was more disappointing however. I ordered rabbit ragu with saffron gnocchi and I was really looking forward to a delicious rich, red wine ragu - a perfect accompaniment to the freezing weather. But after the first bite my lunch guest and girlfriend whispered 'what on earth is that taste?' I took a bit of the gnocci which was speckled with blotches of orange saffron (rather than the well mixed golden colour I was expecting). I was shocked to find that the gnocci was so strong in saffron that it had completely over powered the entire dish. As for the rabbit, it was slow cooked and tender sure. But it had no flavour and was served in a clear flavourless (sauce?). Needless to say we decided not to order dessert at this stage. Despite feeling starving, itwas decides that the risk was too high given our bill was already +$100.

The food was very average. The garden and Interior of the restaurant need attention.

Service was good, after the waiter noticed that we had arrived. All courses were slightly overcooked making what would have been a great meal just good.

Beautiful outlook, friendly service and food made with love. Fantastic lunch!

Western Comfort. We went here for a celebratory dinner last night, and it was a really pleasurable experience. On a cold, Wintry Mountain night, it was great to get stuck into a pot pie with fresh bread and a salad, followed by one of the most original desserts I think I've had: a marzipan ravioli with rum 'n' raisin ice cream. Was just gorgeous.

Their portion sizes were also perfect: not too big or small.

And the ambience was perfect with the fireplace going, it just made for a really comfortable but classy dining evening.
