We visited the Smokery today and what an amazing surprise.
The menu was amazing and when it was delivered to our table it did not disappoint. We ordered the “naughty brisket” - amazing (no other comment), the Ruben sandwich (yum), the chips (perfect). And Alex (awesome service) - so friendly and welcomed our pup too. The treats you gave him were a hit. We will be back.

This place was a BBQ place but we stopped for a coffee. It was a good coffee which was what was needed to head into Yarra Valley. Would love to try some food here next time
We’ve been checking out various smokeries in Mel and I must say Yarra Valley Smokery is going to be on the top of my list! Dirty Brisket- Tender smoky brisket topped with roast pork, smoked bacon, and a sunny side up with cheddar cheese...so dirty and so naughty - yum! Naughty Brisket burger is oh so full of smoky brisket deliciousness. Our two corgis can attest to that! Decadence at a reasonable price! Oh coffee here is one of the best we’ve had too!
What topped our experience is that Alex (the owner) came out and had a chat with his customers. He was very happy to share his smoking tips with my husband and even showed us his offset smoker!

I am in love. Went here for the first time today and had the greatest Reuben I have had outside of the US! Loved the jalapeño popper and pickle coleslaw on the side and such friendly service! A breath of fresh air for the outer east.
Delicious, generous servings, friendly service, smokiness was definitely very strong. The combination of ambience and the smoker in the background further enhanced the experience. Would make a visit to Lilydale again for the food.
My friend has convinced me to come over to check this out, and from the very start I was amazed by the friendliness of the owner Alex. We did “feed me” menu, which we so couldn’t finish and took 3 takeaway boxes home with us, and were super full.
The place is very authentic, they smoke in house their own bacon, pulled pork, brisket, lamb, even chilli con carne. Try smoked butter and cheese!!! Oh, and THE BACON JAM!!!!! Mmmmm!!!!! It’s the hungry man heaven! All I could say about is only DELICIOUS!!! Come and try it, seriously!!!
Incredible food. The owner is fantastic and provided us with an excellent experience. We got to taste some delicious salts, chili, butter and other products before we ate a great meal. Even got to check out the smoker and have a good chat with the staff.
I wish this place was closer to home because I'd eat here all the time. Got the Reuben and Cubano and I still can't decide which is better. The servings were quite generous, heaps of pastrami, heaps of pork. Just yum. Can't fault anything.
The smokery is my favourite place in Lilydale. The owner Alex is beautiful, friendly and kind. When you ask for the biggest coffee they have you will be treated to a BOWL, YES I SAID BOWL, and its delicious! The food is beautifully smoked, you will always leave full, but a comfortable full. I have brought my dog along and sat outside, my dog was also treated to a meal.
The staff and service are spectacular and kind. Hands down best meal in Lilydale!
Great mind blowing experience . The char siew and naughty brisket burger were out of the world. Check out the bacon jam too. I can feel the passion of the owner in his food.

Such a great little find. Not sure how this doesn't have a higher rating. Food was delicious and tasty, I had the pulled pork and the bun was so fresh and soft, the pork was just perfect as was the apple slaw. The guy who served us (i think he was the owner) was so friendly and helpful and has the best customer service I've experienced in years. He even gave us a little surprise popper at the bottom of our chip basket. He was keen to help my wife with her food intolerances to make sure she also enjoyed her food (and learning himself too).
The many different things that Alex can do with smoked foods is very unique. Wonderful flavours and generous servings. A very relaxing place to enjoy breakfast or lunch with friendly faultless service. If you're into smoking meats, ask Alex if you can check out his custom built smoker. It's impressive! Try the smoked salts, cheese, jerky, and hopefully the smoked bacon jam will be available soon.
Alex is a genius with the smoker. If you want a masterclass in Australian Low and Slow BBQ style, talk to Alex. I've seen him smoke things that I didn't think possible... a Jam doughnut, an aged English cheddar, all spectacular.
I'm envious of where Alex gets the meat for his BBQ. The size and quality of the beef is of particular note. Any brisket menu item will please.
I've been to BBQ restaurants in the USA and none come within cooee of Alex's, Yarra Valley Smokery.
Absolutely love this place. Alex is very accomodating, if I’m after something specific Alex is more than happy to make it! My favourite burger is the naughty brisket burger.. trust me, it is naughty and nice.. bloody nice! The chips are alway delish! This place really hits the mark.
Alex is the nicest guy going around, and knows how to make some killer food! Love this place.
Id also reccomend you to treat yourself to one of his oreo brownies, they are incredible!
You must get here asap. The food is outstanding and the owner Alex is a great host. The Cubano sandwich is flavourful and filling, and the chips are to die for. Third visit and the dirty brisket burger is phenomenal. This man knows his stuff with the bbq. Get there ASAP. You won’t be disappointed.
I highly recommend this shop to everyone. I got to the shop and had a crispy beef burger with chips. The burger was so nice especially the crispy beef. It's one of the best burger that I have ever taken. Eventhough I'm not a fan of chips, the sauce of chips made me eat more and more chips. The sauce was actually unique and special. And especially, the chef and staffs in there are very very friendly and full-filled with smiles. The chef called himself as a 'crazy chef' and offered us 3 free foods (1 entry dumpling, 1 bread, smoked doughnuts). He made us surprised for many times and even showed his special salts with many flavours (coffee salt, matcha salt, lemon salt...). We really enjoyed the wonderful time in there with very delicious foods, lovely location, and nice people. We will definitely come back to town and have more foods.

Knew Alex from Kublai @ Burnt Bridge and had been dying to try his Joint in Lilydale, he did not disappoint one ounce, the service was great, the food was absolutely mouth watering and the man himself personally came around and ask how it was going, gave us a few samples of his fresh cooked brisket and showed us his Dry Aged Angus Tomahawk Steaks.
We ordered the Lamb and Morrocan salad sandwich and the Dirty Brisket (smoked Brisket with Cheese, topped with Bacon and more Cheese and finally with a Fried egg on top all encompassed in a Charcoal Brioche Bun), aswell as 3 Smoked Dim sims and a side of Fries with Russian Sauce with a sneaky Jalapeno Popper in it.
The Dirty Brisket was amazing, the Beef was smoked to perfection,the cheese just worked, the Bacon added that little bit of a salty hit and the egg just rounded it all off..... i wanted to have a second if I weren't full from the first.
Also this place is dirt cheap with most of these stacked sandwiches no more than $15, my special Dirty Brisket was $20 but id happily shell that out for such awesomeness !!

Love this place! Very friendly and helpful staff & willing to assist with my dietary requirements. I had the pulled pork with Asian coleslaw and loved it. My husband had the brisket burger and thought it was 10/10. Can't fault the place. It's small, but it wasn't busy and we liked our window seat. The baked goods in the cabinet looked awesome for next time. Thanks Smokery!
Very, very good Ruben sandwich, a great find in Lilydale. The Smokery is a hidden gem right across from the train station in Lilydale. A small shop which is not particularly warm and cosy in the cooler months, but the food and coffee makes up for it. Indoor and outdoor seating caters for everyone. Very good service, food is well presented, flavoursome and ample serving size at a great price. Most of the menu is bread based, but you can request anything as a dish with no bread and it is still delicious. Will definitely be back soon to try some of the other yummy offerings on the menu.
Seriously delicious stuff, reasonably priced & amazing service! We tried the YV smokery for the first time 2 months ago off the advice of our neighbours and have been back several times since & tried everything! Our favourites are the BLT's and Reuben sandwich. They make great coffee and their smoked bacon is the BEST! Very friendly & welcoming. Keep up the great work guys!

Dropped in for a quick lunch to give this place a try. Had the Ruben. Thoroughly enjoyed it. One small thing I would say is the bread was just stock standard helgas (or similar). Would have been good with a nice sourdough (which could be sourced directly from Locovore around the corner). No problem with size of meal. Will be back to try more smokey meaty treats
Great atmosphere. Amazing smoked meats! I loved the pulled pork! Will definetely be back to try out the other dishes on offer! Highly recommended place for breakfast or lunch especially to the travellers who are heading for a day trip through the yarra valley!
Wow!! This place is amazing, the flavours were sensational and the meat was so tender and juicy. Disappointed I hadn't tried this place earlier. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Love how all the smoking is done on the premises, will be back for sure!!

My god I don't think I've ever felt so loved as a customer. Came here for my girlfriends birthday lunch only to find out it was meant to be closed but the owner was working without any help on because he could see people were hungry! Not only were our sandwiches delicious but but the owner came around and gave us pork belly samplers and cinnamon swirls for free just because he wanted to feed us. By far the best service I've experienced in my time the food is always better when it is made with so much love. 6/5!
Amazing flavours. Always a warm welcome here. Food just tastes fantastic, previous comments have been that portions are small, but I would rather have a taste explosion than just a large portion of everyday food. Will be back for sure.
Always enjoy the food when I drop in. Nothing better than locally sourced food prepared well. The smoked meats (done in house) are Amazing.. certainly recommend the bacon and brisket. And always something to try that you haven't had before. See photo of Potted egg.. delicious. Staff always friendly and owner chef always makes you feel welcome..

So I noticed The Smokery today while dropping off my dry cleaning at lunch. I quickly read the reviews and decided to deviate from my lunch plans and give it a whirl. No regrets.
The staff were extremely friendly (without being over baring), and explained the menu and the specials. Having checked out the menu online I decided I'd try a Ruben - I freakin love Rubens. However, one of the specials was called the "Naughty Brisket". A couple of layers of cheese and brisket and an egg. Now, I have been smoking my own meat, including brisket, for a good few years now (long before Melbourne's hipster pub craze for brisket), I have never tried it with egg. Needless to say this got my attention. So a short time later I had my food, brioche bun, a couple of layers of smoked brisket and cheese and an egg. Well - I would never have imagined it would work, but to the person that came up with this, BRAVO! Amazing mix of flavours, rich, salty, sweet and smokey - most of all, moist. All too often brisket is dry, not here. My meal came with some thick cut chips and dipping sauce; and a mini fried pickle with cheese!
I noted a review when quickly looking up The Smokery, that complained about serving size etc - I'm a big person, there was more than enough food. As I sit here and write this I certainly do not want anything thing else to eat - well I do, I just know I can't fit it in!
On to the coffee, for those of you lactose intolerant people, the soy is Bonsoy. The coffee is excellent. Along with a smoker I have my own espresso machine, so I'm annoyed when I go out to a cafe and I realise I could of made a better coffee at home. No issue here, good flavour, good soy milk, not too hot, not too cold - most importantly, thoroughly enjoyed!
I'm a picky bastard (not afraid to give a bad review when deserved), this place is top notch. Price wise the menu is on par with pretty much every cafe in the area, no issues here; I paid good money for a damn good meal.
If you're from the area do yourself a favour and get down here - if you're not, time for a road trip.
To the staff: see you when I come to pick up my dry cleaning next week!!!

I was so pleasantly surprised by the Yarra Valley Smokery! My dad had been earlier in the week and recommended I go there too, and I was so pleased that I did.
I was in a bit of a hurry, but still wanted to sit down and enjoy a meal in the short time I had, I let the very attentive and friendly staff member know and she was very happy to "rush" my order through without question, so that was greatly appreciated. But when the meal arrived, I was even happier! I ordered the Cubano and chips and it was perfection. Just the right size, and super delicious. The chips were top notch and there was a little extra as well, with a Jalapeño popper on my plate! The Cubano sandwich was filled with tender and delicious smoked pork, cheese and pickles and I couldn't fault it. There was also a little side of pickled vegetables on the plate too, which was a refreshing treat.
The staff were professional, friendly and efficient and I can't wait to return and try more of their delicious menu. A real gem in the Yarra Valley!
That moment of appreciation. when you recognise someone who is really into food, has found a niche and played and perfected it! I was greeted warmly and personally - and whilst drinking my coffee and drooling over the menu, I was offered spontaneous taster after taster of new kitchen experiments... cinnamon maple bacon, 18hr slow cooked brisket, pork belly and pulled chicken - each with a unique and subtle flavour from the smokery (which you can have a look at, out the back)... my pulled pork and tangy apply slaw bun was just the right level of juicy and texture - and the flavours just Devine! I loved the sauerkraut on the side and although I'm not into chips - these had a gorgeous batter, texture and served with an amazing sauce.. This superb joint raises the levels for food experiences for the entire Yarra Valley! The generosity, friendliness and outstanding menu creativity and taste is a complete delight and surprise, and I'll be back to work my way down the menu..
Best Roast Pork Belly EVER! The fat melts in my mouth, the meat is super tender but the skin is just the perfect amount of saltiness and ever so crispy!!
Every time I'm at the Yarra Valley Smokery, I'm greeted with warm and very friendly service.
The portions are generous and delicious at a very decent price compared to all the other smokehouses that have been popping up around Melbourne. I have travelled 1+hr from the west side to Lilydale on several occasions for the food.
Yarra Valley Smokery is an absolute gem! Highly recommended. I've brought my friends and family from overseas here and they too have thoroughly enjoyed the food and service.
At 9am on a Sunday I was surprised somewhere in Lilydale was open but man was I glad! I only got a soy latte so can't comment on the food but it was smooth, perfect temperature and a really lovely coffee bean (didn't see why they used as I got takeaway but definitely worth a try) so many coffees are bitter these days but this was delish! Also great customer service. Tick and tick.
It's been a while since a meal has surprised me and brought an unexpected smile to my face.. The food is great.. Quite possibly the best Reuben in Melbourne.. But it was a couple of little "twists" that brought the magic. I'd love to elaborate more.. But I won't.. At risk of spoiling the surprise... Only to say.. We had the Reuben and Chicken and corn soup (not an expected menu item at a cafe..!) We will definitely be back!
