Had our members wine club dinner here last night!!! Food was amazing, staff were lovely & genuinely a fabulous experience . Thanks to all the chefs who unpacked my car...& repacked it with very heavy eskies & champagne flutes!! Rainer was fabulous to deal with... what a lovely humble man! Will definitely be back later in the year for another dinner. We had 50 people upstairs for this function. Can’t rave enough!!
Enjoyed the food in there very much. I thought it was a bit pricey for a 3-course meal but it's worth it. My perception of French meal is tiny and superficial. In this restaurant, the portion is right and the food is delicate. My entree came very fast. Was very impressed with the entire 3-course dinner. Definitely come to this again and highly recommended!
Friendly and attentive staff members. The food was amazing. We had the pork belly, duck confit, barramundi and mixed seafood risotto, quail, raspberry soufflé and crime brûlée and they were all amazing and quality food. It was a busy Saturday night and all the tables were filled early on, but staffs were always available when needed and made sure our cup was always filled with water.
Ordered:
1. Specials of the day seafood soup - loved it, not too creamy, it was perfect
2. Specials of the day slow cooked beef - loved it again, the beef was cooked really well
3. Specials of the day pear tart - a bit too sweet for my liking, probably will be perfect when paired with coffee but I was too full to order coffee. The good thing about this dessert was that the tart was serve warm rather than cold.
4. Creme brûlée - way too sweet
Will I go back: yes, I love a good restaurant in the suburbs.
Cafe Lyon delivers quality food and service at reasonable prices. This restaurant really gives ‘fine dining’ a run for its money. It’s a favorite of ours for special occasions and they have never disappointed with their dishes
The perfect french restaurant with awesome stuff and an excellent service. Highly recommended for date night or just quite night out. Try the wagyu beef.
What a little gem of a place, delicious food, good service and great value with their 2 courses for $55 or 3 courses for $68 offer. One of the specials that evening was the slow braised wagyu with bacon and brussels sprouts was melt in the mouth. Dessert was so good, forgot to take a photo of the chocolate fondant. The pear tart tatin was to die for. Corkage is also offered Tuesday to Thursday for $10 per bottle. Booking is a good idea as was packed. Overall an awesome dining experience, we will be back.
A wonderful place for a date night, party with friends or family, or even to spoil yourself for a casual dinner. The food is unpretentious and absolutely delicious! You can taste the time and attention gone into each element of the dish - be it the duck confit or a slice of leek - every bit was cooked to perfection and complemented the dish. We had the crispiest pork crackling I've had in over 5 years.
Will definitely return for dessert next time!
Busy, crowded, enthusiastic; not a place for a tete a tete, but fabulous quality of frenchish modern australian. Souffle was wonderfully done and the French wine well suited to the meal.
Quantity about right, although always: more bread. Its dirt cheap and fills the gaps.
My wife and I had such a nice time here. Beautiful French food. Good wine. And a cosy friendly atmosphere. A perfect place for date night out with the missus.
Cafe Lyon was such a surprise - an unassuming but busy little French restaurant in the middle of the suburbs. I had the salmon tartare which came topped with two fried prawns ina tempura batter. Not traditionally French but it was a refreshing start to the meal. My friend liked his seafood bisque but found it a bit too salty. For mains, I had the confit duck while he had the ribeye. The duck was cooked nicely with the fat rendered properly. The ribeye was a touch over medium rare but the meat was still moist and full of flavour. We finished off with the light-as-air raspberry souffle and the chocolate fondant. Though there was a mix up with our order, we didn't mind as the staff were really lovely and warm.
What a great experience! Takes you to Europe for a few hours that's for sure. The food is amazing, especially the desserts. How to they get all that flavour in to the raspberry Soufflé? And the meat mains (we had trout and beef on the rib - WOW) were cooked to perfection. The place is very busy akin to a real French Bistro, though the staff are very friendly and were accommodating. Lindfield are lucky to have this gem!
Very nice food and good atmosphere
The kitchen was accommodating to a special diet restriction and the plate was divine ........................
Good local French restaurant to go. In terms of food, it's more of Australian/French. Wine list was ok. To me, dessert was stronger than main dishes.
Wonderful dining experience!. We had a really wonderful meal on a Saturday night recently at Cafe Lyon! Arrived after 8pm for the "second sitting". The four of us all had different dishes and all 3 courses for all of us were fresh, delicious and beautifully presented! Great service and a great buzz in the restaurant. Also not too loud, despite being full. Can't wait to go back!!
Great French Food. Delicious food and ok service.
However I have a few quibbles.
The 'pavlova' is not a pavlova. Pavlova is, in order, meringue with a crisp outside and soft light interior, cream and fruit. This dessert is fruit, sorbet (sorbet???), crisp meringue and a teaspoon of cream. France is very protective of its food heritage and I respect that. In Australia we don't have many dishes that are uniquely ours. I wish this restaurant would respect our food heritage.
I don't like the pricing. Set prices for 2 or 3 courses means I feel there is less choice in choosing from the menu. Eg, I often prefer 2 entrees but this would not be worth it with this pricing system.
Entrees were very different sizes. My entree of seafood was tiny but my husband's entree of pork belly was quite large. I guess this is a result of the pricing system. I would prefer more consistent sizes with different prices.
Service was too quick. We had eaten 3 courses and paid our bill in 45 minutes.
I probably won't be back.
A couple of weeks ago my close friends organised a birthday dinner catch up and it ended up being French themed. This time it was at Cafe Lyon located in the north shore in Lindfield. When you read this post, you will notice that I have 2 back to back French dinners posted. Lol! Not planned this way, but sometimes these things happen. :) Cafe Lyon had a nice French feel to their decor. Touches of Paris could be seen in carafes placed around various shelves and posters which were French themed. We were seated at the first floor and I was thankful for the great lighting. Food bloggers paradise! Yay! We decided to go for the 3 course menu which was priced at $65 for 3 courses. Pretty good value I say! Our entrees were: Zucchini Flowers, French Goats Cheese, Baby Artichoke & Salted Walnut Salad. The verdict from my friend was it was delicious. Crispy Pork Belly, Boudin Noir, Wilted Spinach & Lentils De Puy. Two of us had this entree and the pork belly was truly crispy with the delicious cr
Chips tasty and crispy as they should be - Flying Fish should take note...
Three courses for $65 is a good price. Knowing that the menu changes regularly, I can imagine quite a few people make regular returns. I know I will.
Absolutely brilliant, everything from food to the wine to the service it all was excellent and me and my wife were greeted as soon as we came in sat down to a beautiful starter which are generous portions then the main which I had the special the waygu beef mushrooms and potatoes and jus. Worth every penny and at that the prices for this sort of food and service is outstanding I will definetly be back.
Getting better all the time. Went there for a Saturday Night Dinner, with a table of 6. We were allocated a table upstairs at the front, first time upstairs for us, and it works very well indeed. A little packed perhaps, and one table rowdy, but obviously enjoying themselves.
Service was quick and competent without ever being overbearing, the waiter knew the wine list in detail, and in fact recommended a cheaper (but older) wine which was very good (although at the prices they charge, far from a bargain). Would like a BYO option as I have a lot of older wines which they could not be expected to carry. Earlier in the week they have a $10 per bottle BYO, which is at the higher end, although the food is certainly not too expensive, so they make themselves money somewhere!
We had the Bisque (which was fantastic) and the pork belly for entrées, also good, well balanced and not to fatty as it can be sometimes, and most settled on the Lamb Shanks or Duck for mains, both really well presented. Dish of the night for me however has the chips which were out of this world!!!
Desert highlight was the Orange Crème Brûlée, Citrus Salad Fromage Frais Sorbet, which was an unexpected hit. Normally served in a deeper dish, this was in a shallow dish, which meant the sugar crust to custard ratio was a lot higher, and it had a really nice orange (?) flavour to it. Absolutely Brilliant.
Recommend getting an early booking as you can send considerable time (and money with the wine list!) here
Took a friend here for her birthday. The restaurant was packed. That didn't stop the wait staff from being very attentive. The food is to die for!
I took my mum here for her birthday on a busy Friday night. The service was brilliant and professional and the food was excellent. The waitress has brought a "happy birthday plate" out after we had finished without being asked to, and it really topped the night off. Thank you so much - it was better than I could of imagined.
Very nice. The food here is well prepared, tastey and just the right quantity. The use of seasonal ingredients is a big plus and the wait staff are efficient and friendly. The wine list is quite extensive for those wishing to order by the glass.
I went to Cafe Lyon for a three course dinner with girlfriends and it was a pleasant exerience. Had pork for entree, beef for main (steak was huge) and souffle for dessert. Service was attentive and restaurant atmosphere was cosy and romantic. It was a great night, I have othing to complain. Oh, cocktails were beautiful and delicious too.
MUST TRY THEIR WINE DINNER. Registered on Urbanspoon just to share with people how I enjoyed my dinner there last Thursday. Cafe Lyon hosted a Jacksons Estate Wine Dinner and trust me it was absolutely divine.
To the owner of Cafe Lyon, you have succeeded. We just wanna come back for more.
We were seated upstairs, together with many other diners while downstairs area was reserved for normal menu diners. It was 5 course menu, matching 6 wines. They all paired so well I think the chef must be a master. We had Citrus Cured Salmon, Scallops, Duck Confit, Kytren Beignet (deep dried goat cheese) and Lemon En Cocotte. It's so hard for me to pick my favorite because the food are so well executed, all so fresh. The scallops are literally melt in your mouth. Duck Confit is well seasoned which I like, not so salty (as I found in some well respected restaurants). How clever the chef is to deep fry the goat cheese and served with baby beetroot and salted walnuts.
The service was attentive. they kept topping up your glasses with the amazing matching wines. The lady from the winery talked about wine, very informative.
I WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK!
While down from Brisbane I came for second visit to this lovely little bistro. The food was exquisite with interesting combinations of flavours & textures that married together for a range of taste sensations. The cured salmon with prawns beignet i had last time was one of the key reasons i wanted to dine here again so I was relieved to find it was still on the menu & it was every bit as good as i remembered. The pear tarte tatin was also divine. The ambiance is warm & inviting, & staff are friendly yet professional. Many thanks to Chef Rainer & his team for another fabulous night!
Oui, a great local bistro!. Went to Cafe Lyon with a group of girlfriends last week and was absolutley delighted to find such a great place, usually reserved for city localations, in a suburban area. As soon as we walked in we loved it. It was bustling, great decor and ambience, including French sayings written beautifully on the mirrors. We had a lovely French waitress serve us, she seemed new but she was very sweet. You can also see the kitchen from I guess most tables and they seemed to be working really working hard to deliver the great food that arrived at our table! My fav was the duck confit with black pudding stuffing. It was SO tasty. The gateaux for dessert was so chocolaty and tasty. Its not overly French food, more French technique - but absolutley delish! The wine servivce selection and service was also good. To be napkined as soon as we sat down, to having been seen out at the door and wished a good night, and everything in between was just special. Hopefully the menu has some more items on it by the next time we look to have our next outing for variety - as we will be back!
Had the most lovely Pre xmas dinner experience at Cafe Lyon. It was an extremely busy Saturday night but the food did not dissapoint. The oyster entree was so fresh with a tasty, tangy vinaigrette, and the lamb was perfectly cooked & melted in the mouth. The rare tartin for desert was the best I'd had in a long time & they have French teas that are pleasantly served with petit fours included in the price so great value. Although it was busy, service was pleasant. Great neighbourhood dining, warm atmosphere and delicious food all with a hearty dose of Christmas spirit! My family & I will be back.
Excellent food. great advice from the sommelier. occasional service glitch. overall 7/10
Great Food!. Cafe Lyon has recently opened in Lindfield, so decided to give it a try. The restaurant still needs a few finishing touches, but looks great so far. The set menu options were of good value, but most of all the food was amazing! basic bistro style but with what seemed to be a fine dining twist. The beef cheek main melted in our mouths and the pear tarte tartin was great!
Cafe Lyon is a cozy 2 level restaurant, with great atmosphere and delightful food.
The theme of the interior is very fitting with that of a French cafe, and once you step inside you suddenly feel worlds away. Time passes quickly. The quality of the food is top notch, while the prices are very reasonable. Lunch is only available on Thursdays, which is a shame, as their lunch menu is superb. Bookings are essential. The quality of their Entrees, Mains and desserts are equally delicious. One visit is not enough to explore their menu, even with a small group of friends.
We went to Cafe Lyon last night to celebrate my husband's birthday.
The food was great and the cocktail was super delicious.
We particularly appreciated the dedicated vegetarian menu which is a rare find these days, particularly on the North Shore.
This is easily a local favourite as it provides great ambience, and the food is wonderful. The scallop entree (day special) was an experience for the rate bud. The scallop was fresh and the thin cucumber slices both made my mouty felt like it was having a shower underneath a waterfall of clear, crisp and clean alp water!
The duck confit was great and I like how crispy and creative they cooked the potato that came with it.
The bomb Alaska was another gastrnomical delight. Although the both of us who ordered it promptly went on a fictional foodie's 'sugar coma'.🙂
Oh! And the French martini restored martinis onto my 'good to drink' list.
We came here for my boyfriend's birthday and it was the perfect way to end his special day! The french onion soup in the 3 course meal was so so delicious, hands down the best french onion soup I've had. The rest of the mains and dessert were also super delicious! Overall, we had the best time. Can't forget the friendly waitstaff who went out of his way to help us take pictures! Definitely coming back and I highly recommend this little gem!!
From the French martinis to the crème brûlée, everything was perfect. Wonderful traditional service and attention to detail. Excellent wine list. We enjoyed sampling the sticky dessert wines.
Tried the duck main and pork belly special, both amazing. Also very much enjoyed the elderflower french 75 cocktail. Great service - would definitely come again!
One of the hidden gems in the Northern Sydney area. Super nice French courses with wide wine selections will surely give you a lot of pleasure. Also not super expensive compared to other fine dining. The space could be a little tight so mind it could be not so quiet.
This is our lockdown favourite. If you need some takeaway for date night - this place has great food that you can plate up at home that feels that little bit fancy. Amazingly, the quality is similar to what you get in the restaurant. My choice is the steak fillet (yes - it travels well and is tender pink on the plate at home) plus the desserts are similar to what you get dining in. Everything comes in separate boxes so you can plate it up properly.
For a special dinner to break the boring staying at home - this is your place. It's also alright value - for two people its generally $60 - $100 for dinner depending on whether you go for three courses (sharing entrees and dessert - which are huge) and sides.
