There was a line out the front and I understand why. Coffee was delicious - and I don't say that often. I didn't have one of their croissants but they smelled amazing.
SURPRISE HIT! Parked the car, crossed the road, and decided to go into the first place available (considering pram as well) so we just walked in. Service was, well so so. Didn't need any I guess as its such a small establishment. Looked around their salad prep and wow, flies everywhere. It had nothing going for it. But, once the toasted pides came out, everything was forgiven. Wow. Seriously, bread and filling, how good could it be? It definitely made an impression on me and family. Will be back.
Best place for breakie in Lorne. Fresh, tasty and well thought out dishes. Partner had eggs, advo, goats cheese and mushrooms on toast. I had the granola with yoghurt. Both generous sizings and well presented. Great coffee also, would certainly come again!

This is THE stopover spot on the way to the Great Ocean Rd! Delicious pides and quick service makes for a great meal before you continue on the long journey.
Eggs and bacon, chicken, vege...heaps of options and friendly staff. What more do you need?
Nice cafe to stopover for food fuel. Ordered chicken pide, ham and cheese pide, and green smoothie (so much goodness in it- spinach, kale pineapple, mint, lemon, banana, cucumber and coconut water). Everything was great. Felt the chicken pide tasted better than the ham cheese pide though.
We stopped at this cafe on our drive back to Melbourne and we are so glad we did! It was a busy Saturday but the service was amazing and the food came out so quickly. Eggs and bacon cooked perfectly and the chicken toasted sandwich was delicious. Also loved the banana smoothie, just wish we had got one each instead of having to share! If only this was my local cafe, I’d come here every weekend!

Stopped at this cozy cafe for our morning treat. We got Vanilla Milkshake, long black and fresh juice. We can blend our own juice by choosing up to 5 fruits. The juice was fresh and the coffee was nice and warm. However the milkshake was a bit too sweet.
We also ordered take away almond croissant and ham & cheese croissant. They were yummy.
A really cute place, we stopped here for lunch on our way to Apollo Bay. The atmosphere was nice which drew us in to the place. At first glance the menu was a bit sparse but the food was quite delicious, I had the salmon croissant which was really good! Smoked Salmon was tasty croissant was flaky and the salsa was fresh all together really delicious! My friend had the BRAT which was also really good! The bread was slightly garlicy and delicious! Coffee was nice and strong and the staff were really friendly! Would recommend if you are in the area!
Food: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
The quality of the food was fantastic however the drinks were quite a let down (considering it was a 41 degree day). The iced coffee was a little too strong for our liking whilst the watermelon juice tasted watered down.
Service: 🌟🌟🌟🌟
We were seated quite quickly and had to order and pay for our food at the counter (although it would have been helpful if we were advised of this as we waited awhile until we realised we needed to attend the counter). The food arrived in reasonable time.
Price: 🌟🌟🌟.5
The food was reasonably priced however the drinks were overpriced considering their quality.
The toast with mushroom and avocado was soooo delicious! And the black browny was great~
Nice little (super busy) cafe on the main strip in Lorne. Walking up to the cafe, it looks very busy as customers are lined up out front and at the front of the store waiting for take away coffees and juices. However we found there was plenty of available seating inside. We shared 2 breakfasts and liked both. My favourite was the poached eggs, avocado, feta etc. We will return here next time we’re in Lorne.
Awesome vibe, food and coffee! Great customer service as well! Great stop on the way to great ocean road! Recommend to everyone who love coffee and good brekky!
Sweet place. Highly recommended for breakfast and lunch. We tried the cashew and the pumpkin. Both very pleased with our meals. The cashew was one of the better breakfast meals I've had in a while. Great combo.
Unfortunately, there was one problem to note.. one of the staff members was clearly sick and was coughing around us. It didn't seem appropriate.
Great service, great food, great coffee! Can't go wrong here!
The avocado crossaint was amazing! The pides were beautiful, eggs were fresh! Trying to find a fault and there really isn't much!
A great place for coffee - as evident by the line on a weekend waiting for coffee! The food was ok - fairly standard fare for a brekkie/brunch joint.
The breakfast was good, the gluten free bread was unbelievably good.
We were a large group and lucky for other patrons accomodating us because if we left it up to the wait staff we wouldn't of had a spot. It's unfortunate that the girl at the counter was such a sour puss, otherwise the experience was ok.
Had eggs on toast here for brekky on Easter Sunday 👌🏼 delicious toast with a decent serving of butter, 10/10 poached eggs and the service was great, the beach view wasn't too shabby either!
We had breakfast on a busy public holiday, we waited about 5-10 minutes for a seat which was fine as there isn't much seating here. The food and coffee came quick and was quite fresh. The staff all seemed to be in terrific moods which made the café very welcoming. Great place for a quick bite and decent coffee!
Lovely breakfast and very well priced. Cute little cafe that is worth a visit. They make great coffees as well and they have friendly staff!
Brunch at Moons was the perfect pick me up to start our day off at Lorne.
Went with the smoked salmon on toasted croissant with poached egg, mascarpone, red onions, dill and microherbs. Simple and fuss free eating.
Their green smoothie was delicious, more on the fruity tasting side so was very easy to drink and refreshing for a summer morning. Contained spinach, kale, apple juice, lemon and cucumber.
Located centrally in Lorne opposite the beach, Moons Espresso dishes up some simple brunch dishes with a laidback atmosphere.
The interior dining area is narrow and not very spacious, with the counter taking up most of the space. There are more communal style seats available on their outer dining area.
The staff were friendly and the service, while very busy this afternoon, was quick.
Check out the review of Moons Licensed Espresso Bar in the blog post below.
Disappointed that a few of the items on the menu were unavailable but the roasted chicken pide was very tasty. The table was not cleared from the previous customers until after 5-10 minutes of being seated although the cafe was busy...
Great food and atmosphere. Breakfast all day and lunch menu too. Coffee was fantastic. I would recommend coming here for lunch or breakfast.
Just dropped in for a takeaway coffee but it was AWESOME and the staff were uber friendly. They even upsold me some vegan buns without being too sales-y. Nailed it. (PS the Otway Bakery(?) buns made great breakfast paninis the next day.. cheers guys!)
Cool hipster vibe. I drink decaf coffee and this one was really good - strong and not bitter. Gluten free rolls and blueberry friands available to take away. Seemed popular with many dining in.
Chanced upon this cafe while on my way to the Great Ocean and man, it was the best meal I have had in this vacation of mine in Vic. The vegan pumpkin was really pleasing to me. Crispy herb bread, finely cooked pumpkin topped with pine nuts and crunchy vegetables, man! Should I visit the Great Ocean again, I will definitely visit this cafe for yet another dainty meal!
Cosy - in the "you'll have to squeeze in" manner, as well as in the "nice and warm" manner. Happy to know that there's a place in Lorne that I can drop in for good coffee and pastries, whenever I'm on the Great Ocean Road.
Great little coffee shop in the centre of Lorne. Friendly service, and very busy. I had a latte here today and it was really good.
If you come to Lorne, this is a coffee shop that I can recommend.
I've been to Lorne a fair few times and this place is by far the best cafe. The coffee is always delicious and the toasted life's are simply amazing. Cooked to perfection and the ingredients are so fresh. I know I'll be back once again.
Ordered a double espresso and hot chocolate. Locals that arrived after me were served first which was disappointing, and service was unfriendly at the counter. All that aside, the double espresso was excellent with a decent crema and strong syrupy texture. Will go back for the coffee!
Whilst the menu is limited to standard fare, it's done well! Pides - try the bacon and egg with home made chutney - make up the bulk of the lunch menu but there's always a variety of pastries and bakery items to round out dessert. The coffee is excellent (I'd say the best in Lorne) and the jam donut to go with it doesn't hurt either!
For a random pick after an early morning drive this place hit the spot. Good solid soy latte (the queue for takeaway coffee implies the coffee is consistently decent). Big breakfast was fresh with good quality ingredients. Eggs could have been a teeny bit runnier, but a small point in an overall solid, tasty breakfast.
Coffee was delicious, sooo good!!
The food was ok pretty standard cafe food but I'd go back just for the coffee! The outside seating area is nice and a great place to people watch and relax.
One of the best focaccia I've tasted since my recent trip to Genova, Italy - birth place of focaccia. Will definitely go back if I come by this road again.
Quaint little cafe in Lorne! Nice decor and was busy when we went: Good coffee and fabulous food. Service was good!! Would recommend this cafe :)

Went to Moons for lunch and was not disappointed! Coffee was great and the food was fresh, delicious and wasn't overly expensive . A super busy place and you can definitely see why! Staff were kind and provided a positive vibe.
Would most certainly recommend for a bite to eat!
Good coffee. Best in Lorne.......................................................... ......................................................
Best coffee in Lorne, the girl with the dark hair and nose ring makes a better coffee than most I've had in melbourne
Best sandwich ever.. The best gluten free sandwich I've ever had. We liked Moons so much that we came back three times. Excellent food and excellent service. Now if they could give me their recipe for their gluten free bread that would be amazing.
Loved it. I had the Mexican breakfast with chorizo and goats cheese. Stopped by from Apollo Bay. I would eat that every day very tasty.
Fast and friendly service, fresh juices! I would return again. YUM!
Really nice place. Good coffee, tea and toast and poached egg.
Nice people in a calm environment.
Wonderful place, relaxed and friendly staff, service was extremely fast even though they were packed to the rafters. Coffee was excellent, food was also very good. 5 stars.
It was nice. A trendy little cafe in the heart of Lorne. Popping in for lunch, it seems they only offer sandwiches (on focaccia bread) or a couple of salads which was a little disappointing. We ordered 2 sandwiches, a flat white and an iced coffee. The food was pretty good and the coffee was ok. The waitress was a little presumptuous and possibly too busy to take the care we would expect.
Had such a great meal here! The service was quick and friendly. Really nice atmosphere -could have stayed all day :)
The Best.. Delicious food and amazing, refreshing drinks. A wide range to choose from and the Coconut Smoothie is heavenly! Will definitely be going back when I'm next up at Lorne!
Amazing. Great warm atmosphere, amazing long mac and the avocado smash on sourdough was perfect! Great start to a Sunday in Lorne!
Really nice coffee shop great coffee for the drive back to the city....this would be the best coffee shop on strip...
Best focaccia I've ever eaten. Coffee fantastic also. There's no table service. Just a casual relaxed place.
We had a really great Breakfast here! Early on a Sat morning service was good, the girls aren't 'in your face/ fake cherry' just chilled and genuine. The food was absolutely delicious. And the coffee best we've had when coming down this way.
Bliss! We enjoyed a delicious breakfast here last week. Coffee was great also & service was very friendly. Highly recommend!
Great breakfast and coffee. My mother and I both had fruit salad and coffee and it was all delicious. My only criticism was the portion size was rather small.
Would definitely go back.
Nice flat whites & they took our 4 x breakfast orders after 12 with no complaints. Looked like free range eggs & good portion size of bacon & quality avo & cherry toms. Busy place so the word is definitely out.
Great coffee. Popped in a few times for coffees, cake and snacks - consistently good in all areas! Staff are casual and friendly, nice sense of community and we'll definitely return for more brewed goodness on our next visit
Loved our coffees. Had a take out so cannot comment too much but I think guys who work there don't work well as a team. Barrista wouldn't take orders and you have to wait for waiter to take it and pass it on to barista standing next to him. Just to make sure everyone does they share of work? Looks silly especially in tiny cafe with 6ppl in..But thats management issue. Maybe works well when super busy.
Attractive cafe, best coffees will get one tomorrow;)
Best coffee in Lorne, reasonably priced. Staff are consistently disinterested and unfriendly, and avoid the customer bathroom.
Best coffee in town - but you have have to wait for it. My tip, order then look at a few shops, get the paper then come back. Your coffee should be ready by then (maybe).
I wish there was a button for "average". It's ok. Not the best breakfast I have ever had by far... Everything just kind of sat there on the plate and was 'good' but nothing to set it apart from any other cafe. Kinda disappointing. And the coffee was pretty average too.
Thum up. What a great little place to enjoy our breaky & a very very nice coffee
This cafe run by a funky little pocket rocket, Matt, completely blew our minds. Pides are the specialty and milkshakes are a must. Quality ingredients are worth the extra couple of bucks. Thanks to kyall too for volunteering to give my 15 year old daughter a free surfing lesson.
Beautiful!. Pros: A great view, fantastic vibe and a little bit of Melbourne in Lorne (if Melbourne were to be classified as hipster cafe chic). I had "The Cashew" and it was divine- cashew butter, avo, sweet balsamic and tomato salsa on toast, with an egg on the side. A perfect mix of flavours and up there with one of the best breakfasts I have ever had.
The actual cafe is very homey with some indoor and some outdoor seating looking out onto the water. To add to the serene vibe, the background music (of course, Bon Iver, among others) was chilled and lovely. The food arrived quite quickly and staff were really nice as well (didn't understand what other reviewers were on about with that).
Cons: I am gluten-intolerant but I always bring my own bread when I leave the city -never know when that comes in handy- this was one of those occasions. Not a huge con because a lot of places don't have gluten-free bread. I should mention that there are a few options without bread but I'm also dairy/fructose intolerant so a bit limited on those fronts..
Overall, a lovely experience! Highly recommended.
Nice place, good breakfast menu. The staff were a little cool but not unfriendly. The food was pretty good (we both ordered a Big Breakfast, and my husband asked for crispy bacon which they delivered on) and the coffee was good. The serving size was good too, though it was a bit pricey. (Though we found everything in Lorne pricey.) We sat outside so had a nice view of the seaside. Would go back next time.
Awesome coffee! These guys know what theyre doing! Coming from melbourne i love my coffee and this place here just ticks all the right boxes! Thanks guys! Keep it up :)
The best breakfast and coffee in Lorne!. I went here with my boyfriend after being recommended by a friend. He had the 'big breakfast' and I had 'the cashew' and both were exceptional. The big breakfast has the freshest ingredients and all the ingredients have different seasoning and you can tell a lot of thought has gone into it. The cashew has homemade cashew nut butter on toast with avocado, tomato and a gorgeous balsamic dressing. Seriously delicious and so unique.
We also had a coffee each which was perfectly smooth and well flavoured without being overly strong or bitter. I also had a freshly squeezed juice which was blended well and wasn't pulpy.
I would definitely recommend this place and I'll definitely be going back.
Great Coffee. Great espresso for an espresso missing fiend. Recommended. Liked the look of the menu too (but didn't try)
A little overpriced, but nice. Walk a block further North and you'll find cheaper places that look just as nice, if not nicer. However, this spot made a mean big brekkie and the service was warm and friendly
Fantastic cafe with a delicious offering of breakfast, smoothies and coffee. For a very busy cafe on the Lorne, possibly only one open when we visited, staff were fast and friendly, serving everyone with a smile.
Best breakfast I've ever had and would rate higher than 5 stars if I could. Coffee was delicious and the Turkish bread was fresh and tasty. Will definitely return.
‘Where can I get a great cup of coffee here in Lorne?’ I asked many, and the resounding answer was ‘Moons’.
This cafe sits on the main drag of Lorne and is quite unassuming - no big signs advertising them [tiny sign on the door], in fact, it took me a while to find them - the long queues should have been the giveaway…
You have the opportunity to sit inside or out. I was lucky enough to share a picnic table with a few local cockatoos, which is a novelty, and people walking their dogs.
Moons Espresso Bar has a chilled atmosphere, which could be because the beach is across the road. It is a meeting place for locals and tourists alike and a great way to find out where to get a great meal or the best walks to do.
Serving specialty Coffee Supreme South Blend and breakfast, brunch and lunch. The freshly squeezed juice combinations are in high demand. The menu is healthy and caters for a range of dietary needs.
Their kitchen is small, and the chef works manically to complete the flow of orders to a uniform standard. The baristas do their job efficiently and with a smile on their face, which is commendable due to the sheer amount of orders and the occasional wingers who want things done yesterday!
Moons Licensed Espresso Bar - worth a visit to chillax and get that caffeine fix.
Recommendations
Long black - rich and strong enough to get you bouncing for whatever the day has in store for you.
Avocado, bacon and poached eggs on sourdough - generous serving and tasty.
Morning Glory Juice - OJ, apple, carrot and ginger.
I would have to say that their toasted Turkish (Pyde) is the best I’ve ever had. The bread was so good and the flavours amazing. I had the Rueben and my Mum had the B.R.A.T (very good too apparently). Definitely worth trying if you’re in Lorne.
Superb coffee - top notch baristaring!!
Food is quite tasty too. Highly recommend.

Popular spot on the main strip of lorne with tables out the front under the trees.
Menu was good, tourist prices. Servings were generous and the ingredients all seemed fresh. We had the shrooms with beetroot hummus (recommend adding a poached egg) and the avo smash with bacon which came with 2 eggs. Both dishes had 2 slices of toast! Coffee is good and service is friendly. We didn't have to wait long for our meals event though they were relatively busy.
