Review Thai Break - Macquarie Park

Markus K
First and last time I’ll be coming here. I wish I read the reviews before coming here. This place really disappoints with the food. I ordered a pad seew. The flavours weren’t strong enough and the meal tasted bland, the meat was undercooked and the flat noodles were also undercooked and too soft. There are way better thai places to eat at than here. Avoid this one.

I had Laksa and Thai beef salad. Overall, I was really disappointed with the flavour. It was more like a soup with a very watered down taste, no spice, and way over priced for that experience. Thai beef was even worse. Not recommend.

Very good quality food, reasonable prices and friendly staff, they cook things in the way I really like and putting rich ingredients with no hesitation, amazing location, you can walk from macquarie university or from macquarie centre, one of the best thai I've ever tried and highly recommended we tried pad thai and fried rice and both was so good

The location is quite good and is located right at the entrance of Macquarie centre if you walk in from Herring road side. I have just tried out their lunch menu for takeaway a couple of times during Covid lockdown. The food quality is about average and the quantity is slightly below average but the main reason i would prefer giving this shop a miss in the future is the unfriendly and slightly rude behaviour of the lady taking your order / serving you at the counter.
Anne Xie
Reasonably priced Thai in Macquarie center but this beef laksa portion is quite small . Taste all right . Not too busy most of the time
Sabrina
Avoid ordering delivery there. The food always comes in damaged boxes, and the soup goes everywhere. The worst delivery experience I have ever had.
Ricky Putra
Ordered pad see ew, they didnt give me flat noodle, the lady never said anything. Ordered crispy pork belly, turn up very tough dry and burn. Red curry duck was okay, duck was dry.

So so so good every time I eat here. One of my favourites is Tom yum soup :). And you get rice with the soup. Love it!

I did not say I want to donate but they just put 20cent to their donation box it is really ridiculous

My go to Thai at Macquarie Centre is Klao Pla but I thought I'd try something different for a change. Husband and I head to Thai Break for a quick dinner. . Thai Break is located near the entrance of Macquarie Centre, right across from Max Brenner. I've often walked past this venue numerous times and never thought to check it out. I routinely go back to my usual favourites but on a whim, we check it out.

Friendly service and average wait time for food (about 12 minutes). Prices are reasonable but portions are a little smaller compared to other Thai restaurants/food places for the same price or less. Quite average in flavour, nothing outstanding, but would recommend the soft shell crab on the chef’s menu— a little more filling and flavoursome. Very clean place, though and you can taste the quality and freshness of ingredients!

A nice and cozy outlet tucked inside shopping centre with soothing ambiance. The menu has a good selection of Thai dishes. The ingredients used are fresh and authentic. Servers greet you with a smile and look eager to serve. Cleanliness levels are top notch. Prices are very reasonable and portions are huge. Overall... a must visit place if you like Thai food.

Dont waste your money on these crooks with Deliveroo or Ubereats orders! They will gladly accept your order and feign delivery. You will never get the food! I will report them. Absolutely atrocious.

I ordered Pad Thai and got a box of bland, tasteless noodle and chicken in mild sauce. Its just a shame in the name of pad thai. Really poor quality food.

The food here was Ok, not that great. We had spring rolls, crispy chicken and drunk noodles. Even though we asked for vegan drunk noodles, they gave with eggs first and we had to wait for correct order. The food was too oily. The service was not great, my child was playing with their steel table number holder, they came to snatch it from her saying it would break. They could have asked it politely, not coming back to this placeagain.

As it was cold and has been raining on and off all day we felt like a spicy dinner to warm us up. After much discussion on where to go we decided on Macquarie Centre and ended up at Thai Break. Thai Break is casual and you order at the counter. The menu is quaint - with pictures and numbers against them where you turn the menu over and see the corresponding dish against it’s respective number. Not all meals have pictures with numbers but a good selection of them do.

A quick grab before we watch the movie. The craving for tom yum soup dragged me to this place. Tom yum soup in winters is just amazing. The place serves good Thai food. The service was good too.
Value for Money - 4/5
Service - 4/5
Food - 4/5
Ambience - 3/5

Gorgeous flavoursome food! Had a Sarah chicken dish that came with fresh veggies and nice rice. Generous servings and very filling! Not too expensive so a good lunch option. Not sure if you can take away the food that you can’t finish but that would be good. Cute place and friendly but quite un-interactive staff.... will be back :)

The Vegan menu is small however most amazing dishes.
I tried the Red curry with Vegetables and Tofu; perfect blend and taste.
Being a vegan I had less options but can’t resist trying the same dish again as it was one of the finest tofu cooked and served.

Highly recommended for Thai food lover.

Despite walking past this place for years, I only recently took the plunge with a group of friends and had lunch here. The menu is rather extensive with a few 'lunch specials' available, although prices still range from $10 and above (which makes it an expensive Thai lunch option).

I ordered a deep fried fish fillet & seasonal vegetables smothered in some sweet sauce, served with rice ($15.90?; off the 'chef's specials' menu board) - this was actually tasty and the portion was surprisingly large that I ended up eating half of it and taking the rest home (takeaway box costs 20c, added to the 'tip' jar).
Anna
Awesome! They have a vegan menu with a bunch of options. Food was pretty standard, nothing amazing, but it's good for a quick fix. I believe they close early at 7pm every day so somewhere to pop by for lunch or early dinner before a movie! Will make use of the vegan menu because that's awesome!
The Eatery
Service was good and food came in a timely manner.
Pad Thai was bland and noodles were over cooked and mushy, chicken was dry.
Chilli Basil Noodles and Rice were pretty good however chicken was dry but would still recommend.
Boat beef noodles was a mediocre experience, beef were largely cut.
Thai milk tea was overall sweeter than expected but would still buy again, heart shaped ice were pretty cute and add as a nice accent.

If you get the chance to come here, I recommend you try their coconut lime prawns because that dish taste reeeaaal good and is full of flavour.

As with other dishes, its pretty mediocre.

Very very bad experience here. A Tom Yum soup with prawn only has 6 prawns and little mushrooms in it, but this horrible soup costs $15.9?! I think a same soup in other Thai food restaurant just costs $5.9!!! I will never go to this restaurant again!!!

Fast service. Can usually find a seat here during lunch when the food court is being slammed. Not the best service but food is tasty. Features some unique northern Thai dishes.

The food was horrible, I ordered peanut sauce noodle, regretted it - the vegetables (boiled carrot and a few beans) on the side were mushy. The sauce itself tastes like it came out of a jar. Bad customer service - we waited 20 minutes for someone to take our order and then told that we need to walk up to the register and pay for the food first. I wasted $24.60.

Coconut lime prawns 🍋🍤
Haven't been to a Thai restaurant that serves coconut lime prawn curry before. My friend recommended this dish as it was his go to Thai dish at Thai Break.

The smell of the curry was lovely with the coconut and lime fragrance coming through. The curry was quite nice itself and the prawns were not overcooked, they were just right. The let down was the corn, it tasted still somewhat raw and left a nasty flavour in my mouth.

I tried some of my friend's pink Thai milk tea and we both thought it tasted like strawberry milk or mostly made up of strawberry milk and something else. The heart shaped ice cubes were an adorable touch.

I have been to Thai Break before one other time. I ordered the Pad Thai and that was below par when compared to other Thai restaurants as this place did not seem as authentic.

Thai Break is located in Macquarie Centre right next to the bus stop and the Macquarie University train station. Not only do they offer the usual Thai offerings dishes, they also have an extensive vegan and vegetarian menu! Our friend regularly eats here because they have many gluten free options. The shop itself has a somewhat dark interior which is furnished with photos of Thailand as well as paraphernalia. The restaurant is not huge however, they do a lot of business in takeaway and have plenty of seating near the front counter. We were able to find a table straightaway but the restaurant filled up quickly.

There are two Thai restaurants in Macquarie Centre and in my opinion, this is the better of the two. A lot more relaxed and a lot quieter, the food here is excellent! I recommend the pad see ew or massaman curries!

Average pad Thai at $13.50. The servings a tad small and the sauce was more on the sweet side. Wished there was a bit more chicken. The best thing was that they were able to make the dish within 5 mins, good for anyone on a short lunch break.

I assume most people come here never have been in Thailand, no idea what real Thai food should be, the food provided by this restaurant are very solty

Dined with a high school friend who returned during his break from interstate in QLD. Needed an efficient food place locally in Macq Cntr to dine at. Got it at Thai Break. Nothing outstanding from service, just your usual. Got the menu and glass of water served quickly to us, which was a plus.

Ordered the pork chop with rice ($14), and found it average in taste, display, and slightly pricey, since I can think of cheaper places. Friend ordered a basic flat noodle with chicken, and he confirmed it was nothingn stellar. Overall, we got the speed we asked for, although we felt it could have been better in the quality and price.

Average quality Thai. Been here a few times before, the food are ok, but not one you would queue for ages to dine at. This time I got some takeaway, a pad kee mao (druken noodles) with chicken. The chicken pieces were really dried and not pleasant to eat, I ended up just picking them out and eating the rest of the noodles. The flavours are ok, but still disappointing overall.

Dinner on Monday night. I ordered the masaman curry (beef). My meal was slow to come out. I ordered first but was last to receive which I found weird. I thought a curry like this would be sitting in a slow cooker or a big pot ready to serve? Anyway! The flavours were lovely and the portion was perfect size.

Another busy day and we have sudden craving for Pad Thai so wr thought it would be a good idea to have it in Thai Break. Also ordered Fiah Choo Chee with rice and glad we did.

Despite a busy day the food came out reasonably quick and the staff is very friendly.
The Pad Thai doesnt look very appealing but it does taste good. Their house chili sauce enhanced the flavour significantly. The winner is of course the Choo Chee Fish dish. The curry is just right not too thick and not too runny. The fish is also fried the right way. Not too crispy that it loses the nutrients but not too runn. Can't fail this dish.

Bottom line : Good food. Good service. Good Value.

Came here on a whim since we were taking my sister out to the movies and she was craving Thai food. Not the best Thai place I've been too but it's decent enough. The decor is nice, the place is a bit on the small side but that makes sense since it located inside the shopping centre.

The food was good enough, I especially liked the Chilli Chicken with Fried Egg and Rice. The Red Curry was really coconutty however, not a lot of curry taste. The Spicy Egg Noodles were nice, and I got it with pork which definitely balanced out the flavour in my opinion. The pink milk tea however was just basically strawberry milk. Not worth getting.

The music is literally the same CD I hear in every Thai restaurant! I swear to god they all have the same CD and it's unreasonably hilarious for me. So okay place overall, but I have had much better Thai around.

Updated review from 4 stars to 1 - I will never go back to this restaurant again.

I ordered a dish takeaway that someone else happened to over before me. I saw them pack the other person's box full while they just gave me whatever was left over from the other persons dish. My portion was much much smaller than the other one.

Prices have also gone up, food has gotten worse.

This was my favorite thai restaurant a few years ago but not anymore

I've been here many times of the last few years, since moving further away I don't get to come here as often as I'd like to. Came across town especially tonight to have my favorite meal which is the "Macadamia prawns" & wasn't disappointed still the same great value, friendly professional service, highly recommend.

I've been there for a few times, so far so good :) With a fair price, you get quality service and quality food! The Beef Boat dish from the special menu, the Red Curry Duck and the Crispy Tamarind Fish from the Chef's Recommendation blackboard are highly recommended. I'm yet to try their desserts :)

I'm pretty much a regular here so I believe it's time to sit down and talk about it.

They've already renovated this place late last year so the place is pretty clean and comfortable.

Alright, let's start with ambiance. Thai Break plays some really nice smooth music which I really enjoy. The staffs are so friendly and helpful, plus fast service! Though the prices here isn't so easy on the wallet, but the portion size is enough to fill you through two meals.

Fav Dish:
Choo Chee Fish! Oh the creamy and fragrant coconut based curry over the fried fish. It's SO GOOD! I kept coming back to Thai Break just for this.

Crispy Chicken & Rice:
THIS IS SOO GOOD! It's phenomenal. Not the healthiest but definitely the tastiest.

Thai tea:
Like any regular thai tea. I thought this is a little too sweet for my liking.

Basil fried rice:
Really delicious, you can't go wrong with thai basil. I just think that theirs are a little too oily. It would be perfect with less oil. :)

Pad Thai:
I don't think it's the best dish to order here, though many still orders this. It's quite bland and the noodles are all sticking with each other.

PS: They only accept cash.
Sharon
Your standard Thai food with nothing special and quite high prices. The presentation is very boring and multiple dishes are just the food placed into a plate with no garnish or anything. The seats also feel quite old and unsteady. I don't know how it's keeping up with all the new places that are opening up in Macquarie that give much higher standards.

Simple yet tasty Thai food. We ordered the vegetable curry puffs, crispy chicken and vegetables with peanut sauce. The curry puffs at $1.50 each were lovely morsels cooked to perfection paired with sweet chilli sauce.
My partner said the crispy chicken was really crispy but a little too much batter on some sections.
My peanut sauce was a little thick but full on flavour.

No eftpos here so make sure you have cash!

Try the Drunk Noodles. Huge plate that you can share with just a little bit of kick. The Prawns in Coconut and Lime were awesome, the sauce was very morish and they use proper king prawns. For the quality of the food and the decently sized quantities this place is great. Should also mention that I couldn't see any dish over $17.90 with most under $15.00. Absolute bargain in my opinion!

Great food, bucket loads of that dirty Thai flavour. Frequent this place and love it. On par with our favourite other Thai places.
