Review Peter's Fish Market - Main Beach

Nat Toh
The fish and chips here are pretty good - fish is fresh, nicely fried, and you must eat it with tar tar sauce! Their calamari is thick and succulent, highly recommend to eat it too. You can choose either battered or crisp, personally I like the crisp one for the chewing texture! Their fresh oysters were juicy, it’s worth trying too! It’s pretty value for money, I would come back here again when I crave for fish and chips!

Brilliant, super good food, amazing location. Staff were super friendly. Definitely bring your family and order everything! - Fish and Chips (Beer Batter) - Calamari and Chips - Fish and Chips (Breaded) - Grilled Salmon and Greek Salad - Boiled Prawns Definitely will be back again, thank you!

We were lucky to order some fish and chips. However we were given two orders without our calamari, I ordered the special with fish cocktails, prawn cutlets and calamari and chips, I wish I just got the basic fish and chips. I was disappointed in my fish cocktail, prawn cutlet were over cooked and I’ve had way better. The chips were overly seasoned with salt . But my hubby’s normal battered hoki fish was awesome. My sister in law enjoyed hers grilled. Perhaps we’ll be back for lunch and not at closing. The place is always packed, great system of calling out your orders when ordered and checking of QR and Vaccinations. Love the selection, of fresh seafood and cold drinks.

Hands down one of the best fish and chips takeaways and very reasonably priced. Bit of a wait time but goes to show how popular they are!!! They also have other seafood to purchase instore. I wasn't able to try the grilled seafood menu but surely will be back as it's available after 12pm 🐟🎣🍟🦞

Great hot fish food. This place is quite popular so expect long wait times, especially on the weekend. They keep everything covid safe which was appreciated and the food came out fresh and hot! We had the seafood platter for 2. My personal favourite was the grilled fish and tartar sauce.

Fresh lobster and delicious fish n chip but a bit dissatisfied with the oysters as they’re not really fresh. Price is reasonable $30 for 1 half lobster. $16.50 for set 4 which have fish, chip, calamari rings and 2 prawns. We had our meal while enjoying the sea view. Recommended this place.
Rayley Toh
The best fish and chips ever! The calamari were so succulent and delicious too. Can’t believe we did the jackpot with this accidental food stop on our way to SeaWorld!
Brad Lyons
Was recommended by the great team on the aqua duck and they didn’t miss the Mark, best fish and chips I’ve had. Was fresh and tasty and a huge variety back with great service, can sit and eat at the shop or wonder down to the reserved tables at the marina. Ps keep an eye out for the hidden statues the kids thought they were great.
Jessica Harvey
Decided to try here for lunch, cheap prices for the quality. Prawns cutlets are amazing, best I’ve had! Calamari was pretty good too. Fish wasn’t too bad just heavily greasy leaving the chips soggy.

Rustic walk-in seafood market and restaurant

Positives - The grilled swordfish special was exceptional as were the chips that came with. They had a sparkling lemonade in the chill chest that was tasty, not too sweet, and complemented the fish nicely. Also, I managed to snag an end seat on a huge 'surfboard' table by trees in the shade...which made for a quite pleasant lunch spot in summer on the Gold Coast.

Negatives - Pretty much everything else. The lobster was horrible. Ridiculously overcooked and tough as rubber it was a complete waste of money and left unfinished. There were no condiments for the fish or chips that I could find, the fries were stronger than the plastic fork, and napkins only made an appearance late in the visit. And the whole 'hold your ticket, fork, drink, and lobster while you wait (seemingly forever) for the fish and chips to arrive got old real fast.

Overall - It's worth coming here for the fish and chips but everything else should be avoided. And don't order the 'fish of the day' but rather select from the quite excellent selection of fish on ice...and then to ask for it grilled or fried (breaded, crisped, or both). Avoid the lobster. I could tell the oysters and mussels should be avoided from just looking at them...but a tablemate's revulsion at her oysters confirmed this. They had fresh crab that looked like it might be tasty...but without metal implements I couldn't see any way to eat most of the meat.

We visited peters seafood market after seeing huge promotional ads on local buses, and rave reviews and high praises by thousands of people on the internet, the place is located on the main beach side of the gold coast just behind the versace hotel and offers beautiful views of the bay. But here the good views come to an end. The service is ok but the food is terrible, small serving sizes and negligible quantity of chips, but the most hurtful is the frozen imported basa made to serve as a 'fresh' seafood.
Geoff
A crazy place that churns out tons of seafood. Avoid on public holiday as half the Gold Coast will be there or in a traffic jam trying to get there or leaving.
Tas
Nothing special. Can’t believe people line up for this. Plus every staff member looked miserable. Quite a depressing really
Ronnielui2003
After the lunch at the Marina Mirage, my sisters from Hong King who are oyster fans really like to try fresh oyster so I led them to this nearby seafood market. Although this market is not very big, it made them exciting to see so many different types of seafood there.
Needless to say, having some fresh oysters with dashes of lemon is definitely the way to go. Love the freshness and sweetness from the oysters. I will return for the other seafood next time. Cheers!
FoodieInMel
Quite famous in the area, very busy place, quite a lots of different choices, however the day we visited, they only provide one way to cooked the fish we bought, which is quite disappointed, the food tasted alright but because the way they handled them, they all tasted the same.
Steven Yuniansyah Suyanto
Pretty good price with good quality. I saw many people order with really big quantity, means the food here is awesome and the staff is pretty friendly.
However, i would suggest them to upgrade their cashier to 2 lines to reduce the waiting time. Other than that, all is good.
Kristen Freeman
Delicious fresh food. There was quite a line up for fresh-cooked and we were hungry after travelling so went for ready cooked fresh cold seafood (oysters, prawns, bugs, seaweed salad). Yum. Fantastic.

While on holiday we had dinner here one night. We ordered over the phone and it was a 20 minute wait, so reasonably standard. I picked up and took it back to our resort so didn't really take on board the seating options, cleanliness etc.

The food itself was ok. Everything was crumbed rather than battered. I'm used to battered being the default option with crumbed being optional.

The fish was fairly bland. I forgot to ask what species it was but it certainly wasn't anything tasty. The chips were ok, just middle of the road standard.

Overall it was ok but certainly not memorable and we didn't make any plans to return or recommend it.
Helen Steemson
Nicest people ever and seafood super fresh. Fried goods tasty and crisp. Pro tip: ask for your preferred fish, or you’ll be stuck with and enormous, perfectly crumbed and mushy fillet of lemon fish. Just no to the spring rolls - crispy and promising on the outside, but heartbreakingly inedible inside. Cabbage-flavoured flour slop (and I’ll eat pretty much any spring roll tbh)
Natasha Talevski
Great fish and chips! Everything was perfect and you definitely get what you pay for! Only downfall was the chips they weren’t as good as we had hoped but who even cares when the seafood is that good!
Saurav Chaudhury
Decent outlet - fresh beer battered fish and crispy chips - nothing wow, but standard good food. The place gets very crowded during dinner time, but the customers are properly managed. There is ample space around the outlet to enjoy the food.
Piggy 小猪
Good food, freshness and value at one place. Lobster and scallop was really nice. Family fish n chips pack for good value. You can also pick up some fresh seafood to take home or they cook it for you there. Good place to be at
TweeVy Ngo
A variety of seafood options offered on menu. Their fish and chips tasted good. Paid $25 for half a lobster which was disappointing because there was very little meat, maybe even just 2 bites from the lobster. Definitely not worth for price. Service wasn't really friendly. Putting a smile while serving customers can go a fair way to improve customer experience.
Julius H. Dharmadi
One of the best fish and chips. It offers a wide range of fish including rare fish. The prawn and mussels are also fantastic. Very relaxing ambiance as well for an outdoor lunch.
Custardbun
We ordered the fish of the day and chips, as well as crumbed prawns. The prawns were the stand out - very fresh, cooked to perfection. The fish was ok, but the chips were disappointing. I would come to Peter's for the prawns, but prefer Chevron Island Seafoods for fish and chips.
Birdman68
Having read the rave reviews for Peters we decided to give it a go for lunch. We ordered 2 fish of the day which was Hoki, 1 small chips and 3 potato scallops with some marinated baby octopus. I must say the batter was excellent, dry and crunchy. But the fish I couldn't taste! All I could occasionally taste was tap water as if it had been overwashed under a tap or defrosted in water. Disappointing to say the least. Same with the octopus. No seafood or salt taste, if it had been marinated it must have been in water! The scallops were saved by the excellent batter. The Chips? They reminded me of why I don't go to McDonalds.... skinny greasy things interspersed with bits of hard shrapnel, tasteless and only there to make the numbers up. Not a good experience on my visit and I probably won't be back.

Incidentally, the number of Zomato comments relating to the 'fresh seafood"......I had a look at their bugs, sand crab, prawns and lobster as well as fish fillets. The majority of "fresh" seafood had been thawed or "thawed for your convenience" which would suggest that it had previously been frozen......therefore in my book it's not "fresh"! Like the stuff from the freezer at Coles or Woollies, but defrosted!
Just thought I'd point it out..........
Being Delicious
This is my go to fish and chips on the Gold Coast!! It’s cheap, fast service and most importantly- tastes amazing!!! Super good value for money!!!
Vina
A good place to have seafood with affordable price. I had grilled salmon with chips for $15. It was quite good. You can also buy various types of fish and prawns in the store.
Kyle Jones
Some of the best fresh seafood on the Gold Coast if not Queensland.

This is my second go to place for good fresh prawns. The fish and chips served here are also among the best on the coast.
Lucasskateboard
Went to Peter's fish market we waited nearly 45 minutes for two fish and chip packs after driving to the local Broadwater I discovered that we have got possible the worse fish and chips I have ever had . The chips looked like they were reheated in a microwave from the day before . My grilled piece of fish was like a piece of old leather . Just expect after that long a wait or even a short wait was fresh chips .
Ikuzim
We had a small family pack and a half lobster which costed us $60. No problems with the food at all, the service was quick even there were quite a few customers ordering and waiting for their food.
Cray
$15 for the salmon and salad pack, fish was cooked well. Crab balls and scallops were tasty. The Petes number 9 was good but too much of a deep fried experience. Overall not to pricey and good serving size. Next time I will get the garlic lobster, $25 for half.
IanFJ
I was very happy with this place! The fish was cooked perfectly and I really liked the chips. While the place was packed, the staff moved through the orders quickly and without stress. Would very happily return here again, next time I'm in the area.
Kiki_foodie
really fresh and cheaper. You just need to buy and eat directly!! There are many kinds of seafood and oysters are so fresh and sweet!! It just 10 mins walk from sea world.超级便宜和分量足🐒 新鲜又美味~
Melissa C
Very interesting place where you can choose the fish that you like and ask them to cook for you. It's a nice experience and do come before 12pm as people start lining up quite early!
Suzie Lee
The mangrove jack and sweetlip we selected was cooked to perfection and delicious, but we weren't impressed with the medium tiger prawns which were tasteless and a little too salty. The outdoor eating areas were old and run down - not very clean.
David Hewitt
Great fish and chips! Super deep fried goodness... Gotta have some patience tho during peak hours at this institution. Line up was long but good no frills kind of food. Lots of fresh seafood selection also.
Kate Parker
Authentic cooked to order fish and chips. In a city that knows how to charge for food, Peters is great value for money with stacks of options to chose from.
Harshini Srinivasan
Good food. Prices are reasonable. But I wish the service was quicker and the staff were more friendlier. Had to wait for an hr just for two fish n chips. Should improve their customer service. The seating arrangements and the surroundings are dirty and looks like they haven't been cleaned since months.
Black Rims
Worst seafood on Gold coast and awful service to match. Rude and horrible staff. Avoid this place. Unbelievable how rude the staff are. This place is repulsive.
Beuts
Epic Fish and chips. Great value, pity it's so popular it usually is a 30 minute wait, but that doesn't stop me driving from Brisbane for this gem of a place
Carmen Chan
Oysters are always the go-to thing to get here for me. The fish & chips were nothing special and are pretty salty, so do ask them to put less salt if possible. But it's a reliable place for reasonably priced, no frills, decent seafood!
JessicaS
The fish and chips are good in a no-fuss sense but one of the unique points that I loved about Peter's fish market was their sashimi-grade salmon. They have not had any "in stock" for a while and were not able to give me any indication as to when any would be available. If that's the case then there are other fish markets around which have cheaper-priced and just as good quality, fresh fish. Until they bring back their sashimi-grade salmon, I will be heading to my local Woolies or Coles instead.

Disgusting, dishonest, disappointing rubber and cat food. An embarrassment to the Gold Coast. For weeks, our group of friends had planned a visit to Peter's Fish Market, hearing about such bold boasts. "The best fish and chips on the Coast!" "A Gold Coast icon!" Nothing could be further from the truth.

We were indeed amazed to see fresh fish lined up before us when we first walked in, which I thought was a good sign. Then, I noticed their scallops were soaking in milky water... Which is how phosphate treated scallops look. Also known as wet scallops, where they artificially give them water-weight, thereby lowering the cost. Now; when you hear the claim "the freshest seafood!" you don't expect to see treated fu**ing scallops in there. This is in my opinion, lying to the customers. And it makes me wonder what else isn't as fresh as claimed. If I wanted treated fu**ing scallops, I would just go to the frozen food section of a supermarket. On second thought, a supermarket may actually have dry scallops.

They also have a microwave in plain view of all the customers... Which I hope is for reheating staff leftovers...

One of my friends that was with me, they botched his order, and actually gave him the wrong fish. One without any batter or crumbing, probably someone else's fish, I don't know. When he went to return it, instead of fixing it, they just told him "No, we can't do that", and made him pay for another fish, the one he ordered in the first place. The whole thing was just so embarrassing. For me as well, because I was the one that suggested we all come to this restaurant.

The website shows park table seating by the waters edge. It was anything but. We found a spot, and sat in these cheap plastic outdoor chairs, underneath an iron roof. To make matters worse, the restaurant was absolutely filthy. The walls, the tables, the floors, all filthy. And with the iron roof overhead, it was as if we were having lunch in a farmyard shed. For example, the ground was caked in bird droppings. And not one or two (which is out of anyone's control), but so much, that you had to step through it, to get a seat to sit down. It wasn't just figurative, we were literally eating in sh**. For that much sh** to be there, it wouldn't have been cleaned for quite a while, it was absolutely disgusting. If that's what their dining area is like, I don't want to know what their kitchen is like.

The food was such as a crushing disappointment. Now, I love love love calamari. But when I finally got a chance to try "the best" on the Gold Coast, it was... FU**ING RUBBER. Overcooked, tough, chewy, leathery, cooked to sh**, cr**. And that nasty bit of calamari thread that you have to really work at, and saw off with your teeth... If you blast calamari in the deep fryer, rather than braising it, you have to be careful not to overcook it. If you overcook it with high heat, it becomes tough and rubbery. How is it, that "the best" doesn't know how to cook fu**ing calamari.

I saw something on the menu I've never seen before, a "seafood stick". It didn't have a description on the menu, and I was curious to find out what it was, and had no reservations buying something from "the best". When I bit into it, I instantly found out what it was -- It was seafood extender, or surimi. It was this cold and slimy white mush... it was as if I was eating fu**ing cat food. So basically, instead of selling me fresh seafood (as they claimed), they sold me several different ground up and processed frozen fish meats, that were then disguised with bread crumbing... That's not what fresh is. Also, surimi, is used as a cooking ingredient, yet these guys are disguising it in bread crumbing, and selling it to their fu**ing customers. What the fu** is it doing on the menu! Why the fu** are you lying to your customers...

In conclusion, it was a huge disappointment after weeks of organising this with friends. Where, after our long journey, we basically ate rubber and cat food amongst sh**. I dared not re-enter to take it back, just to have another embarrassing confrontation. Any other local fish and chip shop would have been ten times better. Buying seafood from a proper fish market (and not a filthy run-down shack) and cooking it at home would have been better. I feel awful for dragging my friends to a place like that, in a way I feel partly responsible because it was me who suggested that we visit "The best fish and chips on the Coast!" It definitely wasn't.
Miffy7
No frills, casual fish and chips eatery. As this was close to our hotel, we came here for an early dinner and had no problems finding seating. We ordered special 4 from their menu along with extra grilled fish, sea scallop battered x2, potato scallop x2 and kids meal. We found the potato scallop and sea scallop to be well fried and tasty. Crispy without being oily. The grilled fish had no flavour so get it marinated. We also got a side of their coleslaw which my husband and I shared.

We were all very full and were very satisfied.
Peter
Fresh seafood. Crisp chips. Juicy prawns. Good price. Friendly people. What more could you ask for? What it does, it does well. Def will come back for more.
Peters Fish Market Sucks
This place is a trash can. Had a simple order, 2 sausages and chips. Took 45 minutes and gave us ONE sausage. Cannot complete a simple order in a normal timeframe. Is so over packed and busy, they need a security guard.
This is easily the worst fish n chip experience I've ever had. Staff are rude and arrogant, won't even crack a smile to the person who has been waiting 45 MINUTES FOR THE WRONG ORDER.
Avoid.
Eat And Be Merry Crew
Hello from sunny Gold Coast! A touch of sun is pure salve for the soul...and when I'm happy I tend to eat (with gusto) and when I eat, I am happy. It's a feedback loop of the positive kind. As soon as I touched down in Coolangatta, we sped to Peter's Fish Market for my fix. It's been eight years since I've been and Peter's Fish Market is still one of the best fish and chips that I know of.
NanaKoot
This place always be our favorite seafood place. Their seafoods are so fresh with reasonable price though the place is so basic but who cares as long the food is good...that's all matters. Should try the moreton bay bugs, it's yummy kinda like lobster but the meat is sweeter.
SazSoh
Simply one of the freshest and best fish and chips I've ever had!! Crispy and light, delicious chips, and you could taste the freshness in the fish. Love the availability of fresh prawns and shucked oysters too. Defo a go-to when visiting the Gold Coast!
Peter
The fish was absolutely delicious, some of the best we've ever had.
Unfortunately the line goes out the door and you have to wait over a hour for your meal.
Hussain Kabeer
Went for dinner for some seafood ...a simple basic place that concentrates only on serving fresh sea food, you can pick up the fresh fish , crab ,calamari or prawns and they prepare the food with your choice of marinade ...nice place with outdoor basic seating .VFM
Yus
This place is good value for money.

Fish is obviously fresh. Good variety.

Don't go on a Saturday night. You'll eat your hands waiting as its sooo popular.

Other wise I'll eat here everyday.

No time for customer service. They have a good system in processing people.

Parking on site. Good to visit after going to SeaWorld.

Out of 7 times they overcooked my fish once. But I should of said something.

I would still recommend a must go.
The Food Ninja
Had lunch here agian yesterday. Still my favourite the spot for a decent fish and chip feed. The specials are reasonably priced. The seafood selection is good although I was a little let down to see that not all of it was fresh but thawed for your convenience. Apart from that I love this place
Joe Ma
This is a place where you can really share to the tourist who would like to enjoy the relax environment near the seafront, they have lots of tables outside the restaurant, have lots of carparking space. We do enjoy the food very much , we ordered the fish and chips and lobster for lunch, all freshly made, and the only complaint is the "birds" like a robbery, they walk around you and the tables nearby and want to eat your food, 😂, however, this is the speciality of this restaurant and you are willing to accept it.
Heidi
This place is well worth the trip! You can either choose your fresh fish and have it cooked with your chips or you can bring it back to cook up yourself! We brought ours back.. We took home barramundi, scallops, prawns, baby octopus.. All fresh and delicious! The kids loved the calamari and chips! Very good prices!
Maheeka Samayadasa
At first when we entered. Saw a huge selection of seafood. Got really excited to get some crab and tiger prawns with some garlic butter and lemon. Unfortunately, they were already cooked and served cold... Maybe that's how seafood is served. We were only able to cook up some baby octopuses and prawns.
George
Good fish & chips , fresh, tasty and a large variety of seafood .

Could do with a few more salads but overall a good experience .

Give the prawn skewers a go
👍
Foodie85
Overrated. Had the salmon with garlic butter with chips and calamari. The salmon was a little bit overcooked and lacked in garlic butter. It was a bit on the pricey side - was charged about $43/kg. The chips were ordinary and the calamari was well cooked and tender. It is a very busy place so be prepared to wait - it took us just over an hour from ordering to getting the food. I won't be returning to this place anytime soon.
Jodie
Amazing experience and scrumptious food.
Seafood is set out like a fish market, while you are able to self serve yourself from a variety of fresh seafood. Once you've made your decision you bring your bags to the counter, they are weighed and cooked for you. The prices are reasonable for fresh seafood and all the food is great. Had to make two trips here on my holiday.
Shobiz Foodbiz
If you live on the Gold Coast, you must crave Peter's fish and chips every now and then. It is a nice feeling to drive to the spit, watching a sunset, then lining up to pick what fish you want. I always like to have crumbed marlin and chips. A couple of prawn cutlets won't hurt!
LittleMissPiggy
Went here last night for your standard Friday night fish & chips and it doesn't fault, apart from the huge line and long wait, it's well worth it!!! We picked our fish (flat head + salmon) which they then cooked to perfection, along with some fresh prawns that we picked and insanely crispy potato cakes to go and all for a reasonable price given how fresh all the fish is! Sat on their table and chairs along the water, cannot complain!
Jock
Really nice fish n chips! Expect to wait a while in the arvo, as its popular and near the spit. The outside area could do with a regular clean, apart from that. Will def return 👍
Jp Drake
Can't go wrong for value for money, the prawns and bugs are always outstanding and 1/4 of the price you pay in the restaurants. Sometime lengthy waits but all in all fantastic food.
HotPotato
Wow this place does good fish & chips - and boy is it popular. Very crowded on a Wednesday afternoon, but we opted to wait and so happy we did. Fish was incredibly fresh (we selected our own fillets from the display to grill and batter) and the calamari rings perfectly crumbed and seasoned.

Peter's also changed my mind about greek salad, which I had relegated to the sad salads category. This one was assembled with the freshest cucumber, tomato and capsicum, and creamy, creamy feta. Loved crunching my way through the whole thing.

2 barramundi fillets, a dozen calamari rings, potato scallop, chips, salad and 1/2 doz Pacific oysters was just shy of 50 dollars. Good value for money? (Yes.)
Honey Gummy Bears
Cheers.. What a great restaurant - Such good fish and chips; prawns, and the like! Friendly service too.

Only thing, with the tables out the front - the seagulls are spoiling them! Please make sure they are clean for all diners before they get comfy and seated with their families, etc!

Otherwise, it spoils the experience.
Lex
Supposedly one of gold coasts best fish n chips stores but it was pretty average. Tasteless and greasy - nothing to go back for.
Madisonkat8
Overpriced & overated. Overpriced and over rated!charge you a extra $1 for chicken salt and give you a scummy peice of lemon with seafood packs.pkg seafood all the way!
Pecker
Don't Believe The Hype. Can't believe anyone would rate this place as serving good fish and chips. I finally joined Urbanspoon just to give it the thumbs down!
I'm in Surfers for a family holiday so went here for fish, chips, prawn cutlets and calamari.
Much like the coffee in Melbourne is the best in Australia, I'm thinking the fish and chips might be also. Any local chip shop in Melbourne would do better than this. 6 bucks is about right for a piece of fried fish in Melbourne but it's usually a nice big bit of flake with a crispy batter, not a small bit of glutinous basso with what seemed like a breadcrumb batter.

Don't be misled like we were by the other reviewers raving that it's the best fish and chips they have had cos they clearly haven't had good fish and chips!!
Ward.tess
Best fish and chips on the Gold Coast. Love love love this place. We holiday at Main Beach every year, and always look forward to fish and chips from Peters! Never disappoints.
Lucca
Recommend the premade grill sectionions x
Leanne Heselden
The fresh prawns and mud crabs excellent as usual !

Love the fresh seafood from here
Mazza
Over cooked and pricey. Ordered 1 cod
small chips,
6 x calamari
5 prawns
2x drink and gravy costed about $41.00 .
Over priced! Not only that the fish was so over cooked like it was eating through tough steak. Dissapointed will not be returning.
Debbieleigh61
Not like Melbourne's. To all interstate visitors who are looking for some good fish and chips. You wont find them in SE QLD Been her for 22 years now and my quest has been to find a good fish and chip shop that compares to Melbourne's. Peter's is fresh and if you can be bothered to que, is okay. Not great. maybe one of the best you'll find here. We need Greeks from Melbourne to move here and open up. They'd make a killing. No-one can do it like the Greeks can
Weiyi Chen
First time at Peter's and I must say their seafood are extremely fresh. Had a pleasant experience dining there at lunch time. They have proper covered dining areas to protect the food against seagulls. If I have to give a score, probably a 8/10 with ease.
Mayday Boy
Totally over-hyped, can't take the pressure. Decided against my better judgement to take my friends visiting from Taiwan today (public holiday - labour day) since I had heard so many rave reviews about this place.

Rock up at 11, see a line. That's fine. So we wait the wait the hour in the heat to get in, as soon as the doors open we're greeted by a mess of organization. People rushed in and pushed in and no one says a word. Whatever, thats fine so we wait our turn.

We make our orders and wait. The guy before me is called and walks off with 4 bags of food. But is then recalled. Turns out he walked off with my order too.

That's fine too, I get my food in the end when he ends up bringing the order back. My friend assumed the next order was his (the numbers are not called in order) and grabbed the next bag of food that came out. The cook came out and loudly says ' F**** OFF, THAT'S NOT YOUR ORDER, DON'T F****ING TOUCH IT, WAIT YOUR F****ING TURN" then walks off mumbling to himself.

...DID I JUST HEAR THAT?

Luckily my friend's grasp of the English language is not the greatest so he just shrugged it off. Wheras I was ready to call the guy back and ask for him to say sorry but I decided it was better not to start a scene.

We get our food. Chips were dry, 0 taste. Same with the fish and the seafood stick. That calamari was passable.

Tell you what, when your clientèle is made up of so many tourists you'd think you'd train your staff to have more patience with people who don't have English as their first language.

Won't be coming back here again.
David R
Great as usual. Had grilled dory, chips & oysters and all was great. Can't understand what the complainers are on about.
Dave
What a rip off! $60 for 6 pieces of fish, 1 large chips, 3 drinks and a couple of tubs of seafood sauce. The chips were OK, the fish was crispy on the outside but totally soggy and tasteless under the batter! The place looks like a dive and the food matches it! Avoid this place!
Dion Russo
From Adelaide tried their fish and chips one night based on reviews was expecting a great meal instead the food was average
Wendy
No Wheelchair access. If you are in a wheelchair or find it difficult to use stairs - don't bother to come to this dump. There are NO facilities for disabled or wheelchair users. I had to sit outside like a child while my husband went in and picked my fish out for me. I just felt awful and do not want to return. The food wasn't that good in any case!

Won't go again. We ordered fish and chips with prawns - this set cost us $14.0. Hubby ordered fish and chowder soup $6. We thought that would be enough for lunch. I never had such small serve of chips for fish and chips. For $14 of fish and chips back home in Adelaide, I am sure it will feed a family of 4 easily. Since this place is right next to the Versace a 6 star hotel and so close to the Sea World, I guessed it's why it's not as money-for-value as I thought. The food is good, not great. I truly think it's rip off to pay $14.0 for fish and chips. Since we decided not to come here again, we decided to try their seafood on the tray and cook in your way option. I picked a piece of coral bream which i was told a local fish good for grill. It cost $20+ a kilo uncooked and $30+ to cook the fish on site. My grilled fish ended up costing me $10.00. Another $$$ surprise. My maths must be very bad to not knowing that i would be paying another $10 for "fish n chips" this time but without chips. To break the cycle, I also ordered half a dozen of Harvey Bay scallops with cheese ($13). The fish was dry. The scallops were the only surprise. I spent a total of $43 in this fish n chips lunch and couldn't figure out why i didn't go to a restaurant in the first place.

This place brings out memories of a summer vacation with the family sitting by the marina eating quality fish and chips. When I say quality, I mean great quality fish and chips. A place to try if you are visiting or a local. It has never disappointed. Just be prepared for the occasional long queue, it's very popular. Waiting for food is so annoying

I don't know what all the raves about w/ this joint!!! Is it a YMMV??? The batter was soft n falling apart. Chips were oily n soggy!!! Fish was frozen n clumped up. We ate it pretty much straight away. This place has nothing on even the Chinese owned Chippery at my local. n I rate her fish n chips as the lowest standard in melbourne. Fail to understand why there is a constant stream of people coming in!! Also the fish was supposed to b a fillet!!! There were bones in it!!!

Fresh seafood cooked to perfection. Special #4 and oysters mornay were fantastic. Dont expect table service and skip the sweet potato fries. Bring your own sauces too.

Long line; well worth it. I've been up here several times at first following suggestions by GC locals. there can be long lines on the weekends--long enough to have licensed security. i have to say that the lines are fairly quick moving and well worth it.

i never thought that freshness would make such a big difference when deepfried but you can definitely taste it here! you can also get all kinds of fresh seafood such as fresh prawns the size of your hand.

will keep coming back!

and beware of the ibis

Service is somewhat curt, but the fish n chips are great and that's all that matters :)

A trip to the Gold Coast landed me in one of my favourite eating joints for lunch - Peter’s Fish Market where you can either order cooked seafood or simply buy fresh seafood. It is also a great spot to have a quick and cheap meal by the water after a jaunt to Seaworld. On this occasion, I did a variation on the fish and chips theme. I ordered half a serve of chips (how very restrained of me) for $3 with calamari, prawn cutlets and scallops. All this totaled $13 plus $2 extra for the tartare sauce which I thought was a very reasonable price given we are in a touristy hot spot. The prawn cutlets got a double thumbs up.

The lemongrass snapper was really fresh, well cooked and perfectly seasoned, we didn't even touch the lemon wedge that went with it. It was a huge piece and we just finished it between the two of us.

So you basically choose the fish, take it to the counter and ask for how you want them cooked, grilled, battered or crumbed, in this instant we had our fish grilled ^ the price is also very good as well, considering that it's fresh and all!

One of the few places where you can arrive on a boat or jetski to enjoy fish and chips, Peter’s is a favourite haunt of many Gold Coasters. Whether you take your seafood away to cook at home of enjoy a feast of cold and cooked seafood at the boat-shaped tables outside, the fish is always fresh and prawns straight off the trawlers berthed behind the shop.

There is nothing like hopping into the car after an afternoon folicking at the beach to grab a piping hot fresh fish and chip dinner. And down at the Gold Coast, Peter’s Fish Market out on the Spit is one of the best places to pick up such a meal.
