Review Florinas Greek Tavern - Malvern

DA Fraser (DF)
A last minute booking. First time here, wow! We went the 4 course mixed meats and dips option, bloody amazing! It was sadly a quiet night, post covid, but this place is superb. Staff were excellent, offered menu suggestions, were friendly and welcoming. The food was sensational, lots of it (two of us finished it though!), tasty, well presented and was well priced. I'll be back for sure, highly recommended and even the bathrooms were immaculate! Love it and happy to support great retail places like this. Well done guys!

We had dinner here last night & it was delicious! Lovely service from Rose & the food was awesome…the gyros lamb & chicken were so tasty & tender. Yummy dips & bread, followed by divine traditional Greek desserts. We’ll definitely be back :)

WOW, my wife and I loved this restaurant, great waiter I can't recall his name. Food was so great, we have never tasted chicken like this. The lamb was the best we have ever tasted. We will definitely be going back there.

One of the best Greek restaurant I have ever been to. And the service and staff are just so nice and polite. Definitely recommend everyone to come here once. I will definitely be coming here again.

This tavern was fantastic. It has a gorgeous authentic Greek tavern atmosphere, as it should. You feel like you’re dining in a cute little restaurant on one of the Greek islands. The ambience is great. The setup is quite roomy and seats people comfortably instead of being packed in like other restaurants. The staff were so welcoming, friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely delicious. Every single thing was fresh and cooked to perfection. We ordered the $55.00 per head, 4-course set menu. There was so much food! The highlights for me were the first course of fresh breads, dips, saganaki, dolmades and whitebait fish, all of which were excellent. The second course was a beautiful seafood platter of prawns, fish and calamari paired with a crisp Greek (horiatiki) salad. The third course was a meat platter. The meats were delightfully crispy with charcoal on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside, paired with a lovely tourlou (mix of potatoes, green beans, carrots and zucchini in a tomato-based sauce). Yum! And finally, for dessert we had lovely mini servings of baklava and galaktoboureko with Greek coffee. Everything was delicious. Florina’s is probably the best Greek tavern I’ve ever been to.

Great food and great atmosphere. They always make us feel like “home” and the food is always tasty and good! This is one of our favourite restaurants in Melbourne.

They served me the best tasting Chicken meat I have had in my life! Very generous serving of meals, cosy and homey restaurant environment, and hospitable staff. Very well done!
Chris Johnston
A lovely family dinner experience with great food, friendly service and a thoughtful dining atmosphere. Thanks for a lovely night ☺️

Certainly not the best Greek option in the area.<br/><br/>Whitebait was not fresh, dips were average.<br/><br/>Prices 5%-10% higher than nearby alternatives with slightly smaller portions.<br/><br/>Desserts, which are usually the highlight of a Greek meal, were terrible here. Custard desert was dry and bland. <br/><br/>Menu is also more limited than the Melbourne Greek spots like, Theo’s, and Jimmys and far less busy, so you need the question the freshness of everything.
Michelle
Amazing, hearty and authentic Greek food! Enjoyed every dish of the banquet and props to the waiter/manager for efficiently running the floor on his own!
Joel Hinch
At no point in the history of forever has any legitimately Greek salad been made with iceberg lettuce. Any Greek person would know this. Shame.

It is a great place to enjoy Greek cuisine if you are willing to pay above the Greek restaurants average price. Food was really delicious and cooked amazingly.<br/>An annoying thing was the gentleman who working there wasn't able to explain the food or sizes.

food was fantastic, big portions, great value. the best greek food I have ever had. the service was quick and the taste was great. the variety we had was spot on .....will go back for sure

Ordered the banquet at $46, shared amongst 4 people it was a huge amount of food, all really nice and fresh, the seafood part of the courses was a standout with beautifully cooked prawns and calamari.<br/>The meat from the spit was mixed, the lamb great but the chicken dry and a bit under seasoned. Overall though the quality of food was very very good and value for money outstanding.<br/>Special mention to the bearded fella running the whole restaurant floor by himself, what an asset! He was run ragged on a busy night but could not have been more efficient and polished in his role. Well done and will be back for a second go at this establishment.

Top Greek restaurant just like in Athens in Greece!<br/>Food, atmosphere, decor and service were all great with some relaxing Greek songs being played in the background. Serigraphic printed canvas pictures of places like Santorini in the Greek islands made us reminiscent of our recent cruise there.<br/>Plenty to eat and everything was faultless for a picky critic like me.

When the eponymous & formidable Florina was still at the helm of this Greek restaurant it was a firm family favourite. Since her departure almost a decade ago I recently had the opportunity to revisit after quite a lengthy time. It appears nothing has really changed after so long. Being with a large group it was obvious the banquet menu was the way to go. Nothing extraordinary with the selection. To start us off ; the stock standard three dips - tzatziki, eggplant & taramosalata - fried cheese, white-bait, calamari, grilled peppers & some unforgivable tinned dolmathes, all served with both fresh bread & hot pita. Servings were generous but nothing really stood out except the fried cheese, which was exceptionally good. A platter of charcoal chicken & lamb gyros followed with the ubiquitous Greek salad and some potatoes baked in a tomato sauce. Both meat & chicken were cooked within an inch of their life and were quite dry. Not very enjoyable unfortunately. Next followed a platter of pan-fried fish fillet & some grilled prawns. I suspect the fish was frozen not fresh, given the texture which was bordering on mushy. The prawns were ok. The banquet finished off with a good Greek coffee served with baclava & my favourite Greek sweet, galaktoboureko. Unfortunately the custard was very firm and possibly set with gelatine. It lacked that rich creaminess of a baked custard. I could only manage a couple of spoonfuls before I set it aside rather disappointedly. Overall the meal was average. Nothing really stood out. Staff were brisk & attentive. The decor typical blue & white with posters of the Greek islands adorning the walls. It appears to be a favourite with locals. For me perhaps going back after such a long time with good memories of the restaurant in its early days wasn’t such a good idea.

Walking by, I dropped into Florina's as it looked attractive with it's classic charm. It's relaxing place with a family feel and friendly service.<br/><br/>The meals were generous and classic in their approach. The whitebait was particularly good. This is a place I'll be back to.
Farifar1187
Food is tastey but definitely pricey.<br/>One skewer of lamb cubes for $17.5, could have some salad or something on the side (served on a bed of onions and herbs) . BBQ Calamari is very tasty. Greek salas was %90 lettuce , nice dressing though.<br/>

After passing Florinas a handful of times, I ended up coming here. Very welcoming staff and at 630pm, it was a pretty full restaurant. <br/>Decided to go for the three course menu ($39 pp) which had all the usual Greek foods: Dips, meat, meat fish, salad and bread. I didn't have huge expectations and I have to say the food over exceeded. Although there wasn't any signature dish, there was an extraordinarily amount of food. My wife swears it was better than Lemnos Tavern (check my review). I'm on the fence but would definitely return. Just a nice relaxing place with good food and friendly staff.

My partner and I haven’t been here for years! Will definitely be coming back, the food was amazing, and we had more than enough to take home for lunch. Great value and great quality!!

Came in with high expectations given the rating of this place, but I was very disappointed. We ordered the $45 Greek feast; they definitely give you a lot of food, but we barely finished any of the dishes due to unpalatability.<br/><br/>The entree was probably the best course, but you can’t really go wrong with warm flat bread and dips. The seafood was terrible, with dry calamari coated in an egg batter (?), burnt prawns and somewhat average fish. Next up, we had bland HSP-style chicken and lamb off the spit. Now I normally love my lamb, but there was just too much dry, cartilage-filled meat for it to be enjoyable.<br/><br/>The waitress chastised us for not finishing our food, but what were we supposed to say - that we hated almost everything? Dessert was thankfully better than mains, but the Greek coffee dregs were very powdery and left a sickening coating over the teeth. Overall, not impressed and not good on getting Greek food for a while!! :(

Worst Greek meal we've ever had. My wife is Greek so we know good Greek food and this place was the opposite. Every dish was bad - saganaki, kalamarakia, gyros, chops. It was so bad we didn't finish any dish and had to have toasted sandwiches when we got home because we were hungry. Very overpriced too. Service was good but that was the only positive. Avoid this place.
Wedders
Greek feast for around $38 containing the usual fare of salad, saganaki, lamb, chicken, whitebait, potatoes and more. Really good food in a laid back venue, there is plenty of food and a choice of Greek beers to wash it all down.

Went here on a Living Social coupon. Food portions were plentiful for 10 courses. The only drawback was the calamari was a touch oily and needed more flavour. Courses came out in quick succession which was fine. Value for money definitely. Would recommend.

After a couple of visits, I can't really fault this place.  It's Greek.. it's relatively basic food that tastes really nice (if you like grilled, herbed meat) and served in large quantities.<br/><br/>Order the chicken or lamb gyros, for example and you'll get a plate piled high with meat with a few lemon wedges thrown in.<br/><br/>The Meat Platter (incidentally priced and sized for four - although the menu doesn't say this) is definitely worth a look on a first visit - that way you get to try it all. <br/><br/>I'd prefer if their dolmades were served warm, and the side plates you have to work with if sharing are too small, but other than that no complaints.
Chloe Bao
Really lovely service and such good value for money. We had the set menu without prawns and fish and there was so much food. Everything was delicious, only criticism and reason this doesn't get a 5 is the meat was a little under seasoned: Otherwise it was perfect
Paperika
We ate here last month and were rather disappointed with the food. The flavours weren't all that impressive; in fact I disliked my dish so much, I gave up after eating less than half the serving. Would not go back. That said, staff were impeccable and can't fault the service.
Jayendra Birchall
Fantastic lamb perfectly cooked, the experience was awesome with home delivery. Loved the sweets and the calamari salad! Pickled veg and delicious dill garden salad.

I first ate here in January 2017 and was pleasantly surprised by the efficient and friendly staff. We ordered the set menu for 3 ppl however there was enough food to feed 5 people! It was all so tasty and enjoyable, i can't wait to go back. Warning: don't fill yourself up before the lamb and chicken, as you will want to enjoy these. Tip: get take away containers!

Would have liked to post a better review as waiters where welcoming as soon as we were seated but everything went downhill as soon as we mentioned we were Groupon customers. Food was dished out one serve after another as if we were part of a production line. However as soon as we asked for a jug of water refill and a extra serving of bread to finish the other half of our dips we waited for a good 15-20 mins for both. When the bread came out it was one pita bread and no water. Mains consisted of a platter of burnt chicken and a platter of hard burnt lamb that was not freshly cooked but probably the previous days left overs. The Greek salad was mostly lettuce with two olives. The Greek dessert and the Greek coffee helped make up for some of the scoring. But if it's coffee and cake I was after I would have visited Nikos Cakes or Vanilla...

We went for the first time celebrating our Wedding Anniversary and we weren't disappointed. Both food and service were spot on. Food was flavoursome, cooked beautifully & we left well fed - serving sizes are generous.

Previews reviews don't match our experience. Food quality was standard missing the mark in most instances. The owners were friendly and hospitable however the food was a let down.Serving were generous however the taste just wasn't there. Fish we found tasted and smelt odd. Meat was overcooked and salad very small for the price tag.

I went to Florina's last night.  The starter dolmades were very good. The chicken on the spit was absolutely delicious!  A real delight.  Also after that we had the baklava served with a VERY generous serve of icecream.  Again delicious.<br/><br/>My only criticism was the salad which at $9.50 was a bit sparse.  If it had been a bit tastier and not made with shredded lettuce it would have been much better.<br/>Would go there again if in the area.
Exploring Food
Tried the food here over the weekend. Food nothing special as we found very bland . Place was fairly quiet for a Saturday night. Dips were ok but the rest of the food below standard. Meat very dry and portions pretty small. Staff were friendly and tried to compensate for the food however I was at this restaurant to try tasty delicious food. Real disappointment as the food quality and taste was poor.

There's one reason why this tavern has stood the test of time amidst the ever changing Glenferrie Rd landscape of opening and closing restaurants. Florina's deliveries what you expect. Traditional and delicious Greek food in abundance. Love it.

I feel bad giving a bad review here as the waitresses were nice and the owner (I assume this was her) seemed very sweet. However, this dinner was beyond sub par. The waitress forgot our greek salad, which was fine as we didn't complain to the waitress but they need to be on top of this as a restaurant regardless. The lamb was overcooked and the calamari was the worst I've ever tasted as it was so overcooked I actually couldn't eat it (and I'm usually pretty tolerable with these things). The dessert platter, dips and saganaki were nice, on the plus side!

Amazing place with awesome food !!<br/>Potato n veggies was yum<br/>Loved the dessert / choc halva<br/>Staff was super friendly and coz they were so nice to give us complimentary salad and dessert!! They just make us feel so special !<br/>Thank u guys for amazing time <br/>Def yes to be back !

Amidst the various restaurants on the Glenferrie Road shopping strip, Florina’s Greek Tavern offers a cozy homely style dining experience. The restaurant has quite a rustic decor with a blue and white theme, making you feel a bit like you’re dining near the sea.<br/><br/>The dining area is just that, with the counter and kitchen both located in a separate room. It does make it a bit odd trying to figure out where to pay at the end of the meal, especially when the waiter was nowhere to be found.<br/><br/>Check out the review of Florina's Greek Taverna in the blog post below.

Easy and friendly casual l Greek restaurant on glenferrie road. Really friendly service and delicious food. The calamari was quite nice and soft.

Bad service, cheap ingredients, poor atmosphere, wobbly tables and blue paint overload. I really wanted to like the place reading the reviews as we have just moved house to Malvern but wasn't up to the mark. It was spooky quiet on tuesday and given that, the service was absolutely lacking. Maybe (or so i hope) it was just a one off bad night.

Wow! This small, unassuming restaurant serves some great Greek food! <br/><br/>For entree, we had the tzatziki, eggplant and red caviar dips, capsicum served with pita and bread, dolmades, sagnaki cheese and whitebait - and all of it was delicious! I loved the bread and pita, that were warm, soft and worked perfectly with the dips. The eggplant dip had a great unique flavour, and the cheese was amazing. (We probably could have been satisfied with just this!)<br/><br/>For mains, we had a mix of lamb, chicken, potato, salad and calamari, which were once again fantastic. The calamari was tender and cooked perfectly, and the chicken was so tender and flavourful. Each of the dishes complemented each other and the meat portions were very generous.<br/><br/>For dessert, we had baklava and galaktobourito, which were both so tasty and a great end to a fantastic meal. The galaktobourito was balanced well and not too sweet, and the baklava was deliciously sweet!<br/><br/>The restaurant was pretty quiet when we arrived, but during the course of the meal, more groups arrived. It did get quite loud by the end of the meal, probably due to the small area. There were also quite a few tables packed in, which may feel a bit tight for some people. The service was mixed, some waiters were more friendly than others.<br/><br/>Overall, a really delicious meal and definitely worth trying out!

We just had some of the best Greek food - ever!! <br/><br/>As a half Greek the food was delicious. So much flavour. Chicken on the charcoal was so tender, skin was black with a kick of smoke and salt. Really good. <br/><br/>Biftekia was so juicy and meaty, and was just like I had growing up. Tzatziki was loaded with flavour, garlic, cucumber and came with a huge pita bread. Potatoes and vegetables in tomato sauce delicious too. <br/><br/>The best? The loukamades and baklava. Thanks so much for the extra little treat as it was too good!!!

Great food in a 10 course feast with very good and attentive service tonight.<br/>Tables and ambience bright and clean with subdued and relaxed atmosphere.<br/>Only a couple of minor criticisms.....grubby marks on toilet door near handle and chicken was very overcooked with a powdery texture.<br/>Highly recommend it the restaurant otherwise.

When we eat Greek with the exception of expensive Greek, it's always a feast! One that doesn't make us feel like eating Greek for a while. :P We bought the 10-Dish Greek Feast + Coffee for Two ($49) from Groupon. Which consisted of 6 entrees, 3 mains + a side salad, followed by dessert and coffee. At $25 it's a very good deal, though some dishes were hits and others were a miss.
Katie
Great food with generous serving sizes. The staff were friendly and polite. A great night out I'd definitely come again. Would highly recommend to anyone who likes Greek food and a good night out.

Both the authentic food and down to earth service here is fantastic. I've eaten here many times and have always been thoroughly impressed - would definitely recommend sharing any of the delicious seafood/meat platters!

We love Florina's.<br/>Something about the place that takes me back to being on holiday in Europe. Looks traditional, definitely not modern and not trying to and the presentation is not trying too hard.<br/>Not fancy in any way, but honest tasty food.<br/>Our favourites are the dip trio, with tasty tangy mix-vegs, and the meat platter (which at $75 feeds the whole family of 5 with great variety of meats).<br/>Often busy, better book.
Prahran Local
Dined here on a voucher, average, cheap Greek food at best! Place is quite dated and dark inside and seating not very comfortable. Started with the trio of dips, warm pita bread and roasted capsicums, white bait and saganaki which was just OK. The salad was chopped square bits of lettuce, tomato, cucumber and crumbed feta...presentation very average! The bit of chicken was soft but was not off the spit as it had bone but the meat was just bits of burnt scraps which I wouldn't have fed to my dog and a very very small serving so really can't say I had any...the tiny serving of chopped up potatoes were stewed in a tomato based sauce...nothing special! The dessert was a bite size square of baklava and small piece of galaktoboureko which was fresh and warm...coffee was Turkish and if you wanted a cappuccino instead you were charged extra come on guys this is not true Greek hospitality... btw the owners are not Greek!! I can't say I'd go back, you get what you pay for, try Hellenic Republic if you want a memorable Greek dining experience ...

Good little family run Greek Taverna, friendly service and good food with huge servings. Greek salad is great as is the dessert selection. Try an ouzo to finish.

Had a terrific dinner with 2 other couples. Staff were friendly and quality of food was very good. Premises were clean and would come back..

Poor service, under-staffed, and dry overcooked food with lazy unappetizing presentation. <br/><br/>First impression was revealing, as our family stood awkwardly just inside the front door, looking at a room full of diners and devoid of waiters, unnoticed for a good 7 or 8 minutes before being seated. Our table had been set for 6 even though we booked for 8; further settings were added, including wobbly chairs that then needed replacement. <br/><br/>Orders were taken fairly promptly but the kitchen appeared to struggle. Only half of the drinks arrived, the rest about 45 minutes later. Entrees appeared an hour later, service uncoordinated and haphazard with mains being served at random while salads and vegetable sides failed to appear at all. The waiters were understaffed and as a result the service was terrible – the waiters making a point of avoiding your eye contact so that they would not have to explain why the food was taking so long or take any further orders for drinks.<br/><br/>When the food finally came, there was no pride or joy evident in cooking or presentation - stringy meat (lamb and chicken), tough dry and shrivelled, served on a bed of raw onions! Dry and over-salted calamari. The fish (baby snapper and flounder) also burnt, dry and lacking flavour, served unimaginatively with sliced tomato and cucumber. Even when we wanted to pay and leave, there was no waiter around to come and take our money. I had to go to the kitchen and ask them to take my payment so we could leave. <br/><br/>Very disappointing - We won't be coming back.
Rebecca
Lovely cheerful ambience redolent of the blue and white of the greek isles. We sat down not knowing what to expect. It's like they just knew exactly what we needed. I said my partner was off the charts hungry and needed something straight away. They did it. Brought the drink order immediately. stopped us from over ordering, but brought us a few more chippies just in case. Chatted to the children. The food was great standard greek fare. Typical dips with hot pita. Crispy, gooey, salty saganaki. Succulent gyros (lamb and chicken). gently spiced fish and perfectly cooked chips and vanilla ice cream for the kids. When is came time to go I turned to the waiter and the bill was already in his hand. Would we go again? Definitely!

Really disappointed with the service at Florina's. <br/><br/>I had made a booking for two via Yumtable however upon arrival I was told that they "had not seen the confirmation message on their phone" and as such there were no tables available for us. We had made the booking 5 HOURS prior to our arrival and it seemed quite unbelievable that they had not checked their phone within this timeframe. <br/><br/>However, we did discover another Greek restaurant two doors down and although they also did not have a table available, they made space and accommodated us. Do yourself a favour and skip Florinas. Go two doors down instead. Food was great and service was fantastic.

In for dinner last night, Wife, 11year old son and me. The staff treated us like favourite relatives, It's rare to feel so welcome in a restaurant. The food was outstanding: delicious, fresh, authentic and generous.<br/>When my son had questions about the food the staff took time to explain cooking techniques to him and the Chef even had some time to chat with him with on a quick look around the kitchen,<br/>In short:<br/>The very best service possible and excellent food.<br/>I'd recommend this place to anyone.

This ones a local for me and have been here a few times with and without a voucher...the food isnt memorable but the service compensates for it. Keep up the good work.

Very good Greek food -highly recommended. We had takeaway last night from florina's and tasted their food for first time. While waiting for food we noticed the restaurant's atmosphere was pleasant. Food omg it was amazing. Staff and chef were so friendly as well. Will surely comeback for dinner at restaurant.

Bookings. Food is really good but staff when asked to make booking on coupon, were very rude and told me to call back later

Great food and service. We dined here for a birthday and enjoyed the mid week special. The food was plentiful and really tasty. It was great value and we would definitely go back. Highly recommend!

Very nice food and down to earth service which is what we like, will return as we really enjoyed the lamb, dips and chicken dish, look forward to more tasty lamb. Thanks for looking after us

Great food, large servings and amazing service!. M husband and I came here as part of Living Social's four course deal, and were extremely satisfied. Our entrees, seafood platter and meat platter were fantastic - lots of well cooked, tasty, authentic Greek food. The desserts were lovely, and the Greek coffee that accompanied them were an unexpected delight. Above all, however, was the service. Not only was everyone delightful to begin with, they were also fantastically accommodating when we requested BYO - something that was not allowed with our voucher (always read the fine print, I hadn't even realised!). They accepted our ignorant request with grace, and after explaining our mistake to us, also ignored our offers to just take the bottle home. They're kindness, in addition to the fantastic food, makes this a place we would definitely recommend.

Delicious meals enjoyed in a homely environment. Florina's Greek Tavern showcases their fine food with a sumptuous banquet. Our starters included homemade dips, roasted capsicum and more. We loved the seafood dishes of calamari, prawns and fish, all were cooked to perfection. This was followed by our meat dishes with roasted chicken that just melted in your mouth. Our lamb had lots of flavour and a great taste experience. To finish off this delicious meal we enjoyed their homemade deserts. The homely atmosphere makes dining a special experience and very enjoyable

So disappointing!!. Was so disappointed...our meat platters were disgusting...the meat was slapped on the plate was blackened and burnt and tasteless...no seasoning or marinade whatsoever! Tzatziki was lumpy and tasteless...looked more like riccotta! Embarrassed that they call themselves a greek tavern! We were looking for a venue for a function i am so thankful we tried the food first..i would be so embarrassed to serve this! No love or care just meat on a plae
Tardar Sauce
Amazing lamb & chicken gyros - meat was so tender and just fell off the bone - we ordered 1/2 chicken, 1/2 lamb some saganaki, BBQ calamari and the mixed dips with extra bread. Saganaki was delicious, won't order the calamari again - not enough flavour. <br/>Overall great meal and service. All up $98 including drinks.

Rose and her family @ Florina's deliver nothing but greatness here at this gem of a restaurant. Eat in or take-away you won't leave disappointed. Dips, Spit, Salad etc. everything in a Mediterranean feast you'd like and more. Worth every dollar.

Partner and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner here. <br/><br/>We had the saganaki, dips and a platter of lamb and chicken skewers. The dishes exceed our expectations. The flavours were great and portions were fairly generous (especially with the pita breads with our dips).<br/><br/>Of course we finish off with dessert and that definitely catered to my sugar cravings.

Happiness, warmth and friendliness. We enjoyed a delicious coupon meal. The waitresses were very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant was noisy - but the noise of lots of happy people enjoying themselves. And I don't know that I've ever experienced that in such a positive way before. <br/><br/>Typical Greek banquet food, but with special mentions for the seafood platter - the prawns had a lovely flavour, and the chicken in the main was so tender and flavoursome. Delicious desserts and Greek coffee to finish. <br/><br/>Thank you for a lovely evening.

Delicious food! Great service! Such lovely staff. Thankyou

Reheated dry meat, prawns were off.. Went here with a voucher and was pretty excited as I had often walked past this place and it looked very inviting. Banquet started well with a dip platter, but that's where it peaked. Next dish was the seafood platter, the prawns were inedible, on the verge of going rotten. Calamari was ok but soggy. Fish fillet lacked excitement, just pan fried and dumped on the plate, and was overcooked. <br/><br/>Meat dish was terrible, and looked ghastly arriving on the plate - the meat was dry and dark, clearly they had just reheated a bowl of shaved cuts, the chicken was far from fresh, and also probably reheated. <br/><br/>One of the waitresses was very friendly, however the shorter lady was an odd character and we found her disconcerting. Finished off with a pleasant desert (Baclava and pastry) but it was more satisfying because we were relieved to finally mask the taste of off prawn and old chicken.<br/><br/>Don't bother going here - extremely surprised with the 82% urban spoon rating (at time of writing). Wasn't expecting this bad.<br/><br/>Will never return here.

Greek-Mother type staff: F.... Greek-Mother type staff: <br/>Friendly, concerned, straightforward. <br/>Wouldn't dine again though due to quality of the food & appearance of restaurant. Very tacky, over the top.<br/>Cuisine was enjoyable, although at times over-cooked & almost as though canned products had been used- dolmades, capsicum & dips.<br/>Dined on a Voucher, & glad we did due to the overall quality. Dinner for two- three prawns, on the seafood 'platter' which was more like a small tasting plate.

A great traditional dining experience. We gave Florina a go on a living social voucher. What a great little treasure - really good traditional Greek food, very generous serves, tasty food and great service particularly liked the sagonaki and chicken, but all good. Rose(a?) the waitress was a welcoming dynamo, fast, friendly and efficient. Almost felt like we had been invited to a Greek families house for dinner. We will be back.

The Greek restaurant I have been looking for.. The food was absolutely fresh and delicious. After years of living in Melbourne and wondering why I couldn't find fantastic Greek food, finally eureka! Very pleased to find this restaurant.
Spice Of Life
Average. Dined on a voucher. Was warmly welcomed and service was efficient despite having only two staff on duty and close to being full.<br/><br/>Ambience was simple - blue and white. <br/><br/>Food was nice but not enough to warrant another visit. <br/><br/>Dips and bread for entree with roasted capsicum. Bread was soft and warm and the three dips were nice.<br/><br/>Next came the saganaki. yummy and crispy and hot.<br/> <br/>Seafood "platter" was a prawn each, 3 calamari rings each and a piece of fish each. "Greek" salad was full of diced lettuce leaves dotted with few slices of tomato, cucumber and crumbled feta. When did greek salad have lettuce? <br/>Did not enjoy the salad at all - looked cheap and thrown together haphazardly.<br/><br/>Meat platter was next. Lamb gyros and chicken drumstix was moist, tender and tasty but not much of it. The roast potato was more a mix of vegetables in pasta sauce. The vegetables were overcooked and mushy and an unusual combination.<br/><br/>Dessert was the smallest square of baklava and a rectangle of baked custard. Both nice but way too small.<br/><br/>Overall service was friendly and efficient unfortunately food was average at best.

Nice Service and Food. We dined here on a voucher and found it to be a very pleasant meal. The service was most friendly from the moment I made my reservation until we left. The value was excellent as there was far more food than we could possibly eat. The dishes were all excellent, comprising of a typical Greek banquet. The place was crowded and had excellent ambience, whilst not too noisy, although a little dated in appearance. We will certainly go back soon.

Great Service, food and ambience. We went their on a deal. They treated us like any other customer. When we came in the lady welcomed us which was a lovely touch. Have been on other deals and felt ripped off.<br/>The service was sensational, the dips magnificent, the seafood tasty as was the meat. In fact it was probably too much food.<br/>I would highly recommend this place and I'll go back.

Came here on a deals voucher and everything was very good, from the dips to the seafood, meat.. My this beer was nice too easy drinking!

Haven't eaten here so I can't comment !

Promising start but didn't satisfy in the end. Started off so well with FABULOUS pita and dips, dolmades and capsicum was yum too. Even the house red was nice. The salad and seafood course is when we were so overwhelmingly disappointed that there was no coming back from that. No flavour. It was all iceberg lettuce, watery with tasteless tomatoes. The seafood platter certainly did not please. Tasteless fish- we had to salt it ourselves but still left it. Prawns were cold, calamari just ok, all of it a bit tasteless. The meat platter also ok, not hot enough though! That's a no-no. Again we salted it. The coffee and dessert were again very average. The lady serving us was nice and efficient but unfortunately the meal is not something to leave the house for on a cool, windy night that's for sure :(
Inquisitive Diner
Went with my husband on a week night, wonderfully fresh food. Service was sensational, it was a busy night with only one waiter, to the waiter's credit he maintained a friendly and attentive manner throughout the night ensuring every table was well looked after.

This was our first time dining at Florina's Greek Taverna. What can I say but, it was a very enjoyable experience. Food was fantastic, from dips with warm fresh bread saganaki cheese, salads to seafood to meats and then desserts. Service was friendly and very good. Left there with very full tummies. Will definitely go back and highly recommend it. Thank you

Great authentic Greek food from start to finish

Meh... Took my parents there last week. Had the banquet menu. My views only<br/>1. Mixed dips / bread - awesome, probably the best part of the meal.<br/>2. Saganaki - not a fan of this, way too salty. Parents ditto<br/>3. Capsicum / Dolmade - alright, didn't like dolmade - taste like tea leaves<br/>4. Greek salad - as expected<br/>5. Calamari / Fish / Garlic prawn - calamari was nice when fresh and hot, fish tasted so-so, garlic prawn bit cold<br/>6. Chicken / Lamb platter - didn't enjoy it as much, too full at this stage<br/>7. Dessert / Coffee<br/><br/>Overall, very generous portions, we liked the dips very much, but otherwise nothing outstanding in food or service. Might try it again at some stage but probably will look around for another place to try again.

Pleasant evening with friends. 6 of us used 3 coupons to dine at Florina's on a Thursday night. The menu was fixed but covered a good range of dishes. Everything that was delivered to our table was very good quality and very tasty. The service was steady and very friendly. There was one misunderstanding about the coupon but that was settled by the staff very quickly in our favour. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere although a couple of us thought the seats a little hard. Cushions would have been appreciated. But overall a very enjoyable experience.

What a great feed! We got the set menu which was huge! To be honest we couldn't eat it all but it was well priced & delicious! Great friendly service, will go back for sure!

Dined here with my family using deals.com.au vouchers. We enjoyed a very generous banquet. The service was friendly. Will be back.

I used to love this place but since they changed owners it's gone downhill! I rang to book with my vouchers from deals and that caused issues. Then my sisters pram caused issues (told we couldn't bring it in) then we were asked to finish up so they could give our table to others!!! Poor service, won't be going back. Food was ordinary too.

Wonderful. Went to Florina's Greek Tavern in Glenferrie Rd tonight with family and friends and WOW! We were so impressed with the delicious food and fantastic service. We had the banquet with four courses including the most beautiful meats & seafood... We were so full and then the desserts arrived and OMG they were delightful.<br/>We'll be going back for sure!

Wow! We were introduced to this place via a coupon deal - what a fantastic surprise. The food was sooooo delicious. Huge banquet which just kept coming and coming, topped off with awesome service by the really friendly waiter. You guys deserve to excel. We will b back for sure. Thanks for a feast!!

Food not up to standard. A group of us went to Florina last Saturday to have dinner using the voucher. The first meal served was bread with 3 kind of dips, a plate of capsicums with olive oil and the fried cheese. The fried cheese was very salty. Then 2nd dish arrived, it was some fried calamari, a plate of grilled prawn and fish and some greek salad. The calamari has got a very strong amonia smell. It was so revolting !! The third dish was the lamb, chicken and some potato with tomato sauce. The chicken was so burned and so tender, when you try to cut it into a small pieces, you will make a big mess. The last meal was the dessert which was very sweet and the greek coffee.<br/><br/>I was not impressed at all with the food, I think the food was prepared in advance so many days to cut cost. They are not fresh, the calamari was dipped in amonia too long, the prawn and fish has been reheated, the lamb and chicken has been re grilled a few times.

Very Disappointed. I rang to make a booking today and they asked me on the phone if it was a groupon voucher and i said yes! then they told me they were booked out!<br/>So i rang back 15 min later and when they asked me if i had a groupon voucher no and they were able to fit in me for Saturday at 7:30!!<br/>What a scam! what a rip off never again

Good night overall. Went on a deals.com.au voucher, which was 4 courses for $20 per head, which was very good value for the amount of food served. The normal price for this would have been $42 per head, slightly expensive at this price. Entree of dips (nice), dolmades, marinated capsicum and saganaki (a bit cold by the time it got to the table), served with pita bread and what seemed like store-bought bread roll. Seafood platter was generous with the deepfried calamari (not such a fan), but also came with awesome garlic prawns and grilled fish. Meat platter was nice but chicken was slightly dry. Greek salad was lovely. Baklava dessert was very nice but galaktoboureko custard was slightly lumpy. Overall a very nice night, service was fantastic.

Disappointing. Went couple weeks ago on a coupon and see that they are running another one. Some dishes were OK but nothing special. The meat platter had very dried out and sinewy lamb and very small amount of the chicken that was nicer. There was at least 20 minute delay in the serving of the meat platter. The food was plentiful except for the dessert. The staff tried their best and were apologetic.

Excellent. I held a function for my wife's birthday at Florina's last week and what a great night. The owners could not have been more helpful and the service was second to none. Our waiter "Greg" was fantastic. Our guests are still raving about the food and service.
Lola Flash
Plates dirty service slow and very basic options that were over priced for what was on offer

Awesome Greek food, dips and bread a must, mixed meat platter is large. Friendly staff, great that its BYO

What a let down. Owners aren't even Greek.

Excellent night. Had dinner here with friends last night. We had the set menu, very generous serves.<br/><br/>Food and service were both really good. highly recomend this place.

Great family experience! Lovely staff! The male waiter was efficient and very friendly! Would recommend the set menu.

Not too bad. Went here as my father said the lamb was good. It wasn't too bad but the chicken was better. We were there fairly early (the place was open at 5.00 p.m.) and the "veggies were not ready" so we couldn't have veggies with our meal. Service was a little bit tense at times.. Clean and nice decor even though slightly aged.

Good Greek food. Love this Greek restaurant has a homely feel and the food we ordered was good.<br/><br/>Had the Chicken and ordered extra vegetables and waasn't disappointed. The chicken was tender and well seasoned. The vegetables awesome.<br/><br/>This place isn't expensive and you will probably get to chat to the owner as he likes coming out and talking.<br/><br/>Gotta love that in a restaurant.

Nice, down-to-earth food and atmosphere. Went there with a voucher and can't agree with the comments below - the food was plentiful and good quality. My partner and I are big eaters, we exercise a lot and eat a lot too, but we couldn't finish all the food. <br/>All dishes were fresh, visually appealing and very tasty. The service was friendly and prompt, can't fault anything. The value for money was exceptional and I think that the prices for a "normal" visit are very reasonable. <br/>I think it's actually one of the places I'd go back without a voucher when I want unpretentious atmosphere and food.

Fantastic Restaurant for 80th Birthday. We have just celebrated our mother's 80th Birthday at Florina's. We had the ground floor for Sunday Lunch on 19th February 2012.<br/>We had 44 adults and 9 children and every guest came and told me how much they enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Both owners are extremely helpful and experienced. The husband is the chef, and leads a professional team,.The food was absolutely delicious.<br/><br/>I would recommend anyone planning a party here to give them a call and book in.<br/>Thanks for a memorable celebration!

First visit was good. But the.second visit it was a let down. Service was fine but the food wasn't. It lost its homey touch.

Really Fun night. Great food and Good service for the number of people in our group. (30). Food was prompt and really fresh. <br/>Starters, seafood, meat and sweets. Enjoyed it all will be going again. Thanks to all the staff at Florinas Greed Tavern

Good service, ok food. Had the banquet. Most things were nice especially the dips and saganaki but the calamari were dry and the Greek salad had way too much dill. I really recommend the chicken it was amazing but the meat from the spit lacked seasoning and was a bit bland. Service was great. Lovely owners

Inflexibility is not their strong point.... The 1 and only reason I went to this restaurant, or even knew of its existence is due to a "Spreets" promo they ran which I jumped at, because I love Greek food and the images made out that the food was bountiful. Not quite...<br/><br/>We went on a week day and got in at about 6:30pm.<br/>We were seated by a Greek lady who told us to sit anywhere in the back of the restaurant (we were the first people in there and there was no "reserved" signs anywhere else... so that was odd. We then showed her the voucher, and she said ok "Red or White wine?". Now, both myself and my partner do not drink, so when I told her that, the look on her face was like I had just told her that I soiled myself. She looked at me with such a look of disgust that really shocked me. I then asked if I could just have a lemon, lime and bitters instead and she said "You can, but you have to pay for it, we can't change what the voucher says" (the voucher said a glass of red or white wine). So that in itself was an utter joke. She figured we didn't drink so she wouldn't be making more money out of us with us ordering a couple of extra glasses. We just had tap water. <br/><br/>The meal was a set menu, and it wasn't bad at all. The dips were lovely and fresh and the seafood was done in a traditional Greek style. The seafood plate that was showing on the spreets site was piled high with seafood and this was not the case, we got an uneven number of everything which was weird, and although it was tasty, it just didn't seem like it was enough.<br/><br/>While we were these, many others came in with vouchers in hand and were seated in various spots around the restaurant, never at the front.<br/><br/>To be honest, the food was nice, but the service and their inability to swap the grog for soft drink really annoyed me. If I was a pregnant lady, would this have still been the case? It felt like a personal attack and that they just wanted to make extra money out of us.<br/><br/>As far as marketing campaigns go, I won't ever go back to this place and I'll never recommend it to my friends either due to their behaviour and the fact the marketing images were extremely misleading.<br/><br/>6 out of 10

Food isnt the best. Went there with a scoopon voucher a month or so ago an we where very dissapointed with some of the food, the dips was nice but everything else very average.<br/><br/>Wouldnt go again!!

Armed with a friends 'spreets' voucher we sat down and enjoyed an average Greek fare. Nothing particular cutting edge here - the standard Melbourne Greek restaurant with saganaki, Calamari, salad, etc. At a guess the menu and decor haven't changed for 20 years. The service was a little abrupt and house wine poor. Lamb was excellent. Won't be back not because it's so poor, just because there are so many better.

Great place to for families.... Have eaten at Florina's a number of times of the years but went again on Thursday night and really enjoyed it. Between 5 of us, we had the "banquet" (for want of a better word!) where we enjoyed a steady stream of plates all night. Started with the usual dips, bread, dolmades and saganaki (who doesn't love fried cheese!!!). Next up we got plates of seafood - fish, calamari and prawns. Wasn't mad about the seasoning that they put on the prawns but it was a very minor point. Then came the meat plates and finally the sweets. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the custard wrapped in sticky filo pastry but it was wonderful! The two staff that were working were both really friendly and attentive to any requests. Not the most delicate of all foods I have eaten and they are certainly not going to be starting any new gastronomic trends but they do yummy, tasty and hearty greek food better than most.
Emilio Rogliano
Great Greek food. We ate for about $25 per head and food was fast and top quality during a very busy night! family run business with good service.
Otto Von Schrenk
Great food. Reasonable price...busy night but staff resources low.

Noooooo.... This place is nearly always empty for a reason... <br/><br/>Where do I start? Terrible food. Nothing is fresh. Service was slow even though there were only a handful of diners when we were there. If you want decent, wholesome Greek food, go somewhere else where they haven't forgotten what Greek cuisine is about.
Fiona
Best Greek lamb in Melbourne.. We loved this place, a real find. Family run business with good quality food and service.
