I never write reviews but this place is so damn good I simply had to! This place never (ever) disappoints. Best coffee...best breakfast...best service...period #dontargue #breakfast #coffee
Jake's did the most amazing lunch for a special occasion recently, could not fault their food and they were accommodating on every level. Very seldom do you find a place like this, cant recommend them highly enough. Well done guys!
I brought a friend of mine here to this cool upbeat little Caffè yesterday morning and i gota say we both absolutely loved it!!! Both made to feel welcome and greeted with smiles the instant we walked through the door. We're both fans of Eggs Benedict everywhere we go and the guys down at Jake & the Beans Talk do eggs benny just right! I've never had a pulled meat through it before or a polenta cake but man what an awesome addition!!! All that washed down with a Date Night smoothie where the flavours were on point and a latte ealier on

Always happy when we visit this place! Food is generous in portion, coffee is always great, and 5 star customer service. The staff always greet you with a smile and very family friendly atmosphere. Dont hesitate to visit!!! Love it
Great service, incredible food and coffee. Highly recommend whether you need a quick coffee, a filling tasty breakfast or a luscious lunch!
Love this local! Love the avo smash!! My go-to (and probs a detriment to my mortgage)! Friendly place and great coffee/ food!!
Have been here multiple times over the last 6 months for the snickers French toast. It is divine and never disappoints. The service is consistently friendly and relaxed. Love the new courtyard, love this place.
4.5 Excellent
We came here during a weekday before the world got a little crazier. Went to their backyard and their outdoor space was nicely decked out, perfect for a sunny day.
First up was our coffee orders, to my knowledge they utilise a Five Senses blend which I’ve recently been consuming a lot and have grown a liking to. My latte was deliciously velvety and a light choccy flavour.
For food I got their brekky gnocchi for something different and boy did it look vibrant on plate. A medley of vegetables, pan fried gnocchi in herb butter, chorizo and poached eggs topped with sweet potato chips and shaved parmesan. Around the plate was a generous amount of hollandaise sauce, everything just melded together with a natural sweetness from the peas and carrots and the egg yolk just coated everything making it luscious. I left not feeling heavy at all as the gnocchi felt light but retained an edge to it from the frying.
Based on this one visit I was thoroughly impressed with everything I had, I’ll be sure to look out for a breakfast gnocchi every time I browse a brunch menu. Staff were equally great and enthusiastic asking how our meals were at the till.
Most amazing owners who have established a local gem. I got the pleasure of promoting their Mothers Day pack and it felt like such a family atmosphere. After hearing how they are reopening their doors after being closed for 5 weeks due to COVID-19, they are opening their doors during the Mother’s Day weekend to ensure their locals have the ability to spoil mum during these uncertain times.
Super quick and friendly service- quick to seat us, take a coffee order and then return to take our food order.
The coffee was great and the food was delicious- AMAZING gluten free bread option.
The Mexican Benedict was unreal and the pesto with the smashed avo was clearly homemade and delicious. The poke bowl was a large serve and equally tasty.
The only complaint we had was that it was VERY loud, the sound of customers echos to the point that you’re almost yelling across your small table to hear eachother
My friend cuts hair for her job cause she is a hairdresser. I went to her work (where she cuts hair) and got a hair cut and then after that we came here for lunch but she had to leave early to go back to cut more hair.
Must say, I have only ever ordered coffee from here, however keen to try the food as this place is always busy (however there doesn’t seem to be much competition around for such a busy spot).
Coffee is always consistently good & well-priced. Price doesn’t even seem to change if you order a strong coffee. Service is casual but always friendly & with a smile.
Found this little gem while looking for cafes around the area. We had a photography studio appointment at 1pm so thought we could squeeze in a nice lunch beforehand. Jack and the beans talk (loved the name) definitely delivered. Staff were attentive but not intimidating. Ordered their jack stack (poached eggs, tomato, mushrooms, spinach, bacon and sausages) which personally seemed more fitted for the giant than hubby jack! Was a great "big breakfast version. I forgot what mine was called but it was a fantastic stack. Had advocado, haloumi cheese, corn and a awesome relish. Served with a smudge of wasabi so watch out! I mistook some for advocado and was a hit straight to sinuses.
My coffee was also on par. Wish this was closer to us so it could be a local but might have to let it be one of those "special treat" places. Recommend
Hidden gem 💎 I was very pleased with the experience here. Started with the dirty chai with was a very good first impression. I ordered the soft shell crab benedict and southern buttermilk fried chick burger with was amazing! Came very quickly after we ordered and did not disappoint.
Food 4.5/5
Service 4/5
Ambience 5/5
Pretty good cafe. Convenient location, easy to park on side streets. Reliable cafe fare with friendly service. Have been three times. Can get busy on weekends at peak times.
Jake and the Beans Talk is a great café in Malvern that serves up hearty and delicious meals. Beautiful coffees and friendly service. Would recommend!. Cappuccino $3.80. Such a beautiful coffee that was nice and creamy too! ★★★★. Hash Stack with Fried Eggs $18.90 with caramelized onion & bacon topped with homemade Hollandaise sauce

Delicious meal here the other week with a friend. The service was friendly and didn’t wait too long for our food. We sat outside the store with a dog & it was a nice sunny day. The summer lovin juice was refreshing and sweet. I loved my friend’s assorted mushrooms dish, as the mushrooms were so tasty and had an almost sweet sauce on them. My fritters dish was very tasted and fresh, especially with the salsa
Amazing food and lovely staff! I ordered the fritters and sweet potato wedges - they were both absolutely delicious. Would definitely go back.
Ordered the French toast, the Jake, and the zucchini and haloumi fritters to share with friends. Portions were generous and they were all classic breakfast dishes that were cooked to perfection and presented beautifully.
I picked the 'French Toast with berry compote, banana, bacon, caramelised walnuts, vanilla mascarpone and caramel maple ($19.90)'. The generous serving of French toast had the perfect balance of sweet and salty, with the berry compote adding some acidity. A luscious dish...
Finally got to try Jack & the beans talk and so glad I did! I ordered the assorted mushrooms and I could eat that meal all day. Staff were extremely friendly, great atmosphere and an outdoor decked area.
There is nothing negative I could say I loved it and it will definitely be a fav from now on.
Great cafe located in Malvern East, Jake & The Beans Talk offers a great selection of food in a contemporary atmosphere. Friendly service the coffees were excellent. I personally didnt enjoy the beans they used however know that is not a reflection of them but my own preference. The food was excellent. My fritters were a match made in heaven with the rocket, tomato and red onion salad. Delicious.
Just had an awesome breakfast here. Coffee was spot on and the food was delicious. Very small from the front but actually really big once you walk through the doors. Funky tunes and a good vide! I'll be back for sure.
HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE GUYS!!! Almost everything we ordered was absolutely wonderful and staff were super friendly too! Alright so what to get: assorted mushrooms, southern fried buttermilk chicken, poke bowl (this was really really bloody good), and the bircher muesli!!! However, the soba noodle salad just didn't do it for us. It lacked flavour and was in desperate need of some lemon/lime or just something to spice up the peanut sriracha dressing. But overall, very solid brunch joint and will definitely be coming back to try everything else on the menu :))))

I come here a fair bit - purely based on the awesome coffee! Food is great too, I love the sliders and the ruben sandwich. A great little stopover on my way to the station!
Came here for a catch up with friends and thoroughly enjoyed the shaded courtyard out the back.
This is such a child friendly place that isn't over crowded.
The food and coffee was great as well. The flavours meshed very well but there is no crazy innovation of flavour combinations here.
One of the downsides was that the hollandaise was a little on the heavy side - I could have done with less of it.
Come here for a tasty simple meal.
The best most warming staff in the world work here!! Food is top notch and consistency is amazing. We go back once a week now mainly just to talk the staff, so the perfect food and coffee is a big bonus!! Highly recommend!!!!
We’ve just moved back to the area, I’m one of the fussiest coffee drinkers and I can confidently say Jake & The Bean Stalk make superb coffee! The food is fantastic as well, fresh non fussy food. I love it here!
The food is literally heavenly. My partner and I go back all the time because of how good the food is. Literally love the ambience of this restaurant.
I've been here a few times and have always been met with friendly service. During the week you can easily find seating, on a weekend best to come early.
They do a good real chai latte (not the powdered stuff) which comes in a jug so you can pour and strain as you please, and comes with honey. Food is always consistently good with decent serving size and nicely presented with specials available.
Out the back is a delightful undercover courtyard which has been renovated and suitable for all weather. They also have some seating outside at the front of the cafe, but the courtyard is a lot nicer.
High chairs and change table available and room to manoeuvre a pram if required. Try your luck for a park right out front or around the corner, otherwise I suggest the station parking across the street.
I had the whole oat porridge with poached
pear, seasonal fruits, rhubarb &
berries compote $12 and it looked like sunshine, I felt happy eating it. The porridge was warm, the poached pear was easy to cut through with my spoon and it was so tasty. I also tried my friends smashed avocado. It had green pea on pumpkin bread with grilled tomato, crumbled goats cheese, roquette, poached eggs, pesto & sprinkling of quinoa $19.90. When the meal arrived it looked like a delicious mess on a plate. The pumpkin bread had a nice flavor and the poached egg was cooked well.
There is plenty of seating inside the cafe or out in the courtyard, only real problem you have, is there to park. We parked on the side street, waled and wished we lived closer.
Such a lovely cafe I came across as I was driving. Its easy to grab a park out front and the staff and super accommodating ans delivered excpetional service. The coffee was on point
Great food. Bad service. No one took even our coffee orders or came to take our food order after 15-20minutes. Therefore I had to track down the staff and ask if they could take our order. But the food is really good so I would give this place another shot.
Points for: appetising menu, open interior
Dine Time: weekend brunch
A lovely find tucked away along a small set of shops in the suburbs, however still quite busy as the café has built a good reputation over the years.
The interior is quite open, with clean lines and neutral colours of white and beige. Table layout is also pretty comfortable with options for larger groups.
The menu though – everything looked amazing. Plates of fried chicken/burgers were coming out, which looked really crispy and juicy.
However, I needed to go the healthy route and the whole oat porridge looked like the best option. Creamy oats sweetened only by the berries, and featuring a pear poached in what I assume was a sugar syrup with a hint of turmeric.
The zucchini, pea, cauliflower & haloumi fritters were lightly pan fried, and not deep fried which a lot of other cafes do. The flavours came together really well, and had a nuttiness from the roasted
cauliflower. Adding a poached egg makes the dish 100% better too!
Plating was well done too, making them good enough for Instagram – they know what they’re doing.
5 Senses coffee was served, and my strong skinny latte was well balanced and didn’t have the acidity lingering with typical skinny milks.
Excellent customer service and a nice fitout. Great coffee and the food was yum, big serves. I'd go back to try the buttermilk chicken burger - I had slight food envy!
One of the cafés who revamped their courtyards perfectly. The outdoor space has a little shelter and it don’t matter how the weather is that day - their courtyard will accommodate! Food was lovely but didn’t stand out as amazing. Iced drinks served with ice cream was definitely a shocker because the large cup left us super satisfied on a hot day! Served beautifully (equally sweet and equally milky). I’d come back anytime just for a chill time over coffee, chats and food! :-)
My buttermilk fried chicken was quite yummy. Tender breast fillets with a crunchy crumb. The sweet potato chips were also very good - big and chunky and it had a nice crunchy polenta crust. The slaw was a bit of a let down - there was far too much mayo, making it rather claggy.
Good food, good coffee, good vibe, reasonable price.
Recommended dishes: spanish baked eggs, hash stack, avo kilpatrick
Beautiful and colorful presentation, fresh ingredients
Menu with decent number of choices
Quick and friendly staff
Wonderful Fathers Day brunch experience. Excellent & very friendly customer service. The cafe was very busy and there was limited seating for the 4 of us so we seated in their recently renovated courtyard. Lovely and warm considering it was on a cold spring morning. They also provided blankets which kept my knees warm. The coffees were brought out quickly however the food took a little longer but that is understandable as they were flat out. Lovely food and coffee. Well presented.
Clever fitout, great use of space & lots of options for seating- relaxed staff (maybe slightly too relaxed)... Coffee was very good. Husband ordered The Jake and said it was good though not amazing. The hash browns, sausage & relish seemed to him, to be stock standard pre-packaged supermarket fare. I ordered the smashed avo which was fresh & slightly different to the norm which was nice, but my PET HATE on dishes with two poached eggs, is when it arrives at the table with only one piece of bread??? Seems crazy to me (when price tag is a surprisingly expensive $19.90!!!) for a smashed avo dish with two eggs, to not have two pieces of toast- disappointing.
Great place for a lazy Sunday lunch. The place is very cozy, the staff is friendly and tentative. The coffee is very good and strong when you ask for it. The food is excellent. I had the The Jake and it was very good. So was the risotto which my friend had. Recommended anytime.
Popped in here for an early lunch on a weekday and found the place buzzing! Modern, spacious interior - comfortable, but standard.
I had the 3 sliders - all of which were delicious and unique in their own way. The coffee was nicely done too!
(Sunday 7/5/2017)
Came here to visit with a few friends.
We ordered a long black, latte and hot chocolate.
Long black was great. Nutty and smooth aftertaste. Hot chocolate was hot, rich, and creamy
My friend and I ordered the Southern Fried Buttermilk Chicken. The portions might look small but it was filling. The chicken was not as crispy as I imagined, but the flavour of the chicken and the aioli sauce goes well together. My partner ordered the Steak Sandwich, which was well prepared. The beetroot jam was juicy and the meat was tender.
Atmosphere was great. Very vibrant and friendly vibes. Staffs were friendly and informative.
Cappuccino was not as intense as i like it to be, but was not bad. Had a semioutdoor area in the back which was nice and relaxing. Sweet pot fries were done well.
Just delightful! We stopped in for an early lunch around 11.30 and it was almost full! We were lucky to grab a table and take in the buzzing atmosphere. The decor is fresh and modern and the staff super friendly and helpful. I ordered a chai latte and the vegetarian nachos. They do a chai tea which was quite flavourful and served with a honey splattered glass. The nachos were pretty run-of-the-mill though - melted cheese covered corn chips with a splattering of guacamole, tomato salsa and plain yoghurt. Would probably be abit more interesting with the chicken. Overall menu looks great and will definitely be heading back!
I liked this hipster-y Cafe! Located just down the road from chadstone shopping centre, its a good place to stop by for brunch. My partner and I came for a nice lunch on a Saturday and the place was pretty packed. Nice and friendly service. I had the assorted mushrooms on a slice of rye bread and it was delicious!
Ordered:
- Mushroom
- Mexican Benedict
- Atlantic Salmon
- Bircher Museli
I personally had the Bircher Museli which was had a good combination of ingredients (especially the pouched pear, offt). My friends had the other dishes and had general comments about their meal (not exceptional, but not bad either).
My second visit to Jake & The Beans Talk and I've throughly enjoyed both times.
Nice, spacious venue, but it gets busy! It's a good idea to try book a table if you can, just to make it easier when you arrive.
Friendly, accomodating staff and fast service!
We ordered the Southern Fried Buttermilk Chicken, and it was delish! The batter of the chicken was well seasoned and spicy, the coleslaw was fresh and not too heavy on the dressing, and the sweet potato hash sticks were crunchy on the outside and had wonderful flavouring on the inside! For a dish that appears on a lot of brunch menus, this place nails it!
For dessert we had Snickers French Toast. It's quite a big serve, so you've got to be hungry to finish it! The salted caramel gel, mascarpone and peanut butter mousse gives a wonderful creamy texture and sweetness, and the summer fruits are like little bursts of freshness. The bacon added a good salty flavour, but I think if it's cut in thinner strips and fried a bit more, it could add a nice crunchy texture, which is the only thing missing from the dish. The banana could also be caramelised, instead of served fresh, to add a little bit more interest to the dish. Overall it is very yummy though, and it is the second time I've ordered it.
Would definitely recommend this cafe, I may return myself to bring other people, but after eating here twice I think I'd find a new place to try.
Excellent coffee and service. Beautiful interior. Terrific food! We had some baked eggs and benedict eggs on a cold rainy morning. Went down a treat.
Great food but no split bills on Sat then frustration around providing change makes no sense! Fine for individuals but not much chop for groups. Would love to return but will only do so if not in group!
Cute little place two mins from Chaddy. Great food and good service. The coffee was fantastic, we ordered twice. Would strongly recommend.
Love this place....
Very friendly atmosphere and staff!!!
Cater to my fructose and lactose intolerances... I always ask the chef what Jakes Mum is having today!!!
Visited Jack and the beans talk on a weekday and chose to sit outside to enjoy the sunshine. Despite this, the attention I received was regular and not once did I have to seek out their attention. The coffee was AMAZING! I've since gone back again for their coffee. Despite having a rough time deciding, I settled on the eggs benny as I was drawn to the polenta. The dish was great! Lots of hollandaise sauce and moist pulled pork. I did think however that the slice of ham was unnecessary. Thoroughly enjoyed this dish and will be back with my other half to try the remaining dishes!

Very good coffee and food is generous with careful detail on presentation.
Along busy Waverly Road which can result in you not slowing down to explore.
Do stop and sample the Steak Sandwich which is so yummy.
They have very good Gluten Free Bread from La Strada Bakery so don't forget to sample this as an alternative to other breads. Support this venue as they remember their customers and care.
Love the deco & ambience. Playful name!
The special I was so looking forward to was unfortunately sold out at 1pm, had to settle for the corn, zucchini & hollumi fritters which I didn't really enjoy. Their mushroom chicken risotto was nice but quite ordinary. The sliders were yum. Waiting time for food was longer than expected. $20.90 for a risotto - quite expensive for a cafe.
Best coffee in Melboure. Frequent here for my daily coffee. I tried their cold drip this morning and it completely warmed the sub-cockles of my heart.....
I brought a friend of mine here to this cool upbeat little Caffè the other morning and i gota say we both absolutely loved it!!! 5/5 will be back and suggesting this awesome place to all my friends and family.
Live about 5 mins away so this place is so close and convenient! Simple, straightforward menu. Can never go past the classic Bircher muesli & a chai latte - always my fave go to. Friendly staff, not too busy during the week. Love the modern, minimal interior & outdoor seats out the front. Will always return!
I love this place, thoughtful and stylish fit out. No matter where you sit you don't feel like you are encroaching on other people space and convo's. The coffee here is BANGING! Running 5 Senses with a house blend, a single origin and a filter these guys are coffee masters that can hold their own against any baristas in Melbourne. The food is on point, consistently awesome with a really good comfort food touch on a lot of it (comfort food as in go on treat yourself you animal). The true test of a cafe is their eggs Benny, you can't hide anywhere if you have a crap Benny on offer. JATBT deliver as in Karl 'The Mailman' Malone delivers! A pulled pork combined with ham on a polenta cake make this a Benny for the ages. Little Chief went the corn fritters which were equally as good, she wolfed it down like a 1987 Hoover. The place is run by an awesome family and we've ducked in their for a few of their summer live music, tapas and booze nights. Keep it up and see you again soon.

UPDATE: 25 April 2018
This is my second or third and a forth time visit to Jake and the beans Talk. It’s already 2018 and They really have broke the curse and thrive in East Malvern. Been to a couple of cafes around the area but hands down they are serving the best coffees / best hot chocolates!! and affordable hearty meals all round. Their food are basically my long missed comfort food, they service your tummy more than your Instagram which I like to have in my local cafe and, their courtyard is very comfy and airy.
It’s a wonderful cafe that I wish it never been exposed to the public...
—————
We always said there's a curse on Waverley road (Malvern East) none of the business (well dairy bell moved too) survive on the strip. We watch them come and go and until Jake & the beans talk started their business, they seem to prove themselves they can broke the curse.
Went for a coffee and a bowl of chips while doing a catchup chat, everything is decent everything is legit, just like a little cafe around the neighbour hood.
young demographics of this cafe brings life to the suburb. I am looking forward to this cafe to grow and make Waverley road vibrant.

Can't believe I never saw this place on Waverley Rd, considering I drive past all the time. Jake and the Beans Talk is a lovely pun. The menu was quite simplistic considering other brunch offerings in Melbourne and the staff weren't all the nicest either. Overall, I rate it an average experience, but it definitely is popular amongst the locals.
Nice cafe. We had the lunch special burgers and they certainly hit the spot. Good coffee. Good service.
Coffee is amazing, food is delicious. These guys are genuinely awesome because they always take the time out to have a chat. Thanks guys, i'll see you tomorrow and the next day and the next :)
A bright and friendly café quite close to the Scotchman's creek cycle trail. Coffee is great - smooth, good temp. The brunch menu has some nice options, we chose Eggs Benny - well cooked eggs, generous apple hollandaise with delish pulled pork, bacon, and crispy polenta cake, and Corn Frittas - added a poached egg, without it the meal would've been a bit bare. Its somewhat on the pricier side but still popular. Would like to see more lunch vego options.
Love Jake! Very refreshing menu considering every new, cool cafe seem to have the same the same foods these days. The staff are so lovely, friendly and helpful and it makes the experience even better! The food, drinks and staff always keep me coming back :) Good work guys!
This boutique cafe is relatively new based in the Malvern suburb of Melbourne City. It is named after Jake whom also works at his own cafe. Get acquainted with the man himself in my video log via blog link below.
Food: my favourite dish so far is the Moroccan Baked Eggs. Highly recommended. Flavours were delicious!
Ambient: outside seating available otherwise window seating from the inside is also quite nice.
Service: was very happy with the service from both Jake and his brother, we also had a chance to chat to them a bit about the new cafe. Check out my blog for a full review.
Great local cafe, friendly staff and good food. What more do you want? Very good coffee and while the menu was simple, it was executed well. Will be back again!

Wonderful service, great coffee and delicious breakfast (had the heavenly and fairly naughty French toast). So glad I finally made it that extra few blocks from home to try this awesome cafe and will be back ASAP!
Came here for lunch with my girlfriends. I ordered an eggs benny. And everything on the dish was just a bit too salty for my liking and the hollandaise didn't taste right either. The coffee was alright. My friend orders the corn fritters, from what she said it was alright. The service is good. The staff made sure we were well looked after.
Great local cafe. Coffee good, surprisingly interesting and extensive lunch and breakfast menu, with options for all the family. Younger vibe. Worth a visit if in the area.
This Whippeteer and Wasabi 'the super pup' dropped in @ JAKES the other day. How was?
Genuine, personal service. Thanks M/Sul for not letting us FORGET OUR PHONE! You have the EYES of a WHIPPET!
This Cafe is warm inside in EVERY WAY.
The Coffee was EPIC.
Popped into jake and the beans talk as I was driving past, really nice interior and staff were welcoming. Took a little while for them to come and take our order however once we got our food it was delicious. Was good to see so many male waiters who were friendly, only negative would be that the door they have for the entrance doesn't close properly and as it's quite cold the wind really prominent. Highly recommend the mushroom risotto.
A nice bustling cafe with good coffee and brunch. I had the Moroccan baked eggs, loved the addition of basil pesto on top which was a nice touch. However the chorizo tasted more like sausage. My partner had the eggs benny, which I've also had before. Good that they had polenta slice instead of bread which is a great gluten-free version. Great local cafe to pop into!
Had breakfast at this place this morning and was impressed. Great coffee. Service outstanding and the food was wonderful. Highly recommended
Consistently very good coffee and excellent and extensive menu. Malvern East was lacking a bit in the decent cafe department until Jakes came along!
Nice little cafe. Food was really nice and changed things for me without a husstle. The pancakes with vanilla bean cream are the best! Service was very friendly. Will for sure try again
I visited Jake and the bean stalk for a solo lunch mid week! I had the baked eggs which were awesome and eggs were nice and runny - winning! The fit out is really nice and the staff were also really friendly!
Cool atmosphere and decor, friendly service, fantastic coffee.
Menu had some very interesting items that sounded delicious and made it very difficult choosing. My partner and I ended up choosing the Moroccan baked eggs and eggs Benedict with pulled pork which was pretty spot on.
Definitely will be coming back to try the other delectable sounding options in the near future.
An absolutely sensational place for breakfast or lunch!
Ive always eaten outside but inside seems to have a nice atmosphere. Staff are all so friendly, helpful and especially interactive with the kids to make everyone feel at home.
Great cofee. Exceptionally interesting NOT typical menu. The bome made breakfast sausages were a delight. Mate at the baked mushrooms which looked and smelt delicious. Kids loved their eggs and hashbrowns!
Oreo shake and the berry superfood smoothie... alao both worth going back for time and time again!
What a great breakfast cafe with yummy and interesting choices. My fritters were delicious and the superfoods smoothie was full of flavour too.
My compliments to the barista who served up two very smooth and strong 'five senses' lattes.
Today I visited jake and the beans talk and wow I was extremely happy with everything!! The fit out is gorgeous, the staff were very prompt at taking our orders and the outside area was gorgeous with cute umbrellas. I love that this cafe isn't in such a busy area so we could easily get a table! The coffee was phenomenal! Our friends ordered the Bircher muesli and the fritters and the presentation was insane! Nice servings too!
I would recommend this cafe to anyone it definitely did not disappoint! I can't wait to go back again!
Popped into Jake & the Beans Talk on a mates advice, and I've got to say, this cafe does not disappoint!
Went for the Eggs Benedict as I'm a creature of habit, coupled with a finely brewed five senses capp.
The cafes layout is clean & stylish, everything your brain needs after a night on the sauce.
The staff were great, very easy-going and approachable - an awesome place for a chill weekend brunch.
Could not recommend this cafe more! Being an over obsessed foodie and serious coffee lover in Melbourne, I can assure you nothing compares! The range in food on their menu is of exceptional standard. To be able to provide a huge range of dishes with each and everyone being presented beautifully and taste even better is hard to find. Now for the coffee, it takes a talented barista to produce high quality coffee, and the staff behind the coffee machine most definitely do this. This family run cafe is a gem not to be missed and I can highly recommend this cafe and the great atmosphere that comes with it!

What a fantastic find ! Great attentive customer service efficient and friendly, but not intrusive. The coffee was seriously good. The food was well done and I could see multiple meals on the menu I would go back for. Great place for a cruisy Sunday brunch. Definite fan !
We go to Jakes every weekend, sometimes twice on a weekend! All the food is amazing. For the person who wrote a review saying the corn fritters were bland, I completely disagree. I order them frequently and love them every time! Coffee is great, lactose free milk is also an option which is perfect for me. The staff are so friendly and helpful. You can add extras to your order easily and food is always brought out as quickly as possible. If I ever go anywhere else, it's never as good as Jakes. Awesome job guys!
First impressions are so important and Jake and the Beans Talk certainly delivered today!
The fit out of the cafe is great, plenty of seating both inside and out. The coffee, made on a three group Synesso with 5 senses coffee was perfect, our group had a soy cappuccino, latte and long black and all were on point.
The food was an absolute standout too, we had the slider plate, BELT and the scrambled egg mushroom dish (pictured).
The service was also great, friendly and attentive we didn't wait for a thing.
After the first visit we can't fault it and we will definitely be back to try more of the menu in the near future!
Thanks for an awesome dining experience!
Best coffee I've had for a long time. The food was really nice too. I had the Bircher it was fresh and tasty perhaps to big a portion but it was only $9.9. Very friendly staff. Will definitely be back.
“Fee-fi-fo-fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman, be him alive, or be him dead. I’ll grind his bones to make my bread.” A phrase bellowed by the giant as he catches sight of Jack, in the classic children’s tale of Jack and the Beanstalk. A combination of this childhood reminiscence and excellent wordplay has led to the development of, ‘Jake and the Beans Talk.’ Despite taking inspiration from this classic tale, this family owned business doesn’t grind the bones of Englishmen to make their delicious bread. Instead, like all other great cafes they outsource them.
This gorgeous café is set on the suburban streets of East Malvern, on Waverley Road with plenty of parking available on surrounding side streets. It perfectly combines the attitude of a north side café with the green leafy calmness of the eastern suburbs. With this kind of appeal and accessibility, it’s easy to understand why there’s usually a line of people waiting for a table. Well that and the fact that you can’t book a table on a weekend. The venue is medium-sized and has a plethora of seating options with tables, bar stools and booths. Despite this however, those of you with small children may find this a difficult venue on a busy weekend morning.
The café is owned and managed by a mother and her two sons, with the youngest owner being just 23! Their aim is to provide their customers with an excellent dining experience and that is depicted through the accommodating and welcoming nature of their staff. The beans are from ‘Five Sense’ and are roasted to perfection. For the caffeine-free there are a variety of other beverage options including; shakes, smoothies and juices.
The menu is extensive with ever changing specials and a delectable display counter of cakes and slices. The Moroccan baked eggs were well seasoned and the Napoli sauce not too overpowering. The zucchini corn and haloumi fritters were divine perfectly complimented by the avocado, tomato relish and sour cream. For the sweet tooths out there the Brioche French toast with its caramelised banana, Canadian mascarpone and ice-cream didn’t disappoint especially as it came with grilled bacon.
A real gem in the south-eastern suburbs which is reasonably priced and easily accessible. With a Zomato rating of 3.5- Good, if you’re on the search for delightful service and food I highly recommend Jake and the Beans Talk.

Love the name of this place!! Been here several times now, and each time the food has been consistently good. My favourite dish from them has to be the scrambled egg and mushrooms- the eggs were soft, fluffy and perfectly seasoned. Their baked eggs were also very good, as are their sliders. The warm salad is fairly ordinary, but the dressing gives it that kick that leaves you wanting more.
Service is great- staff are friendly and there is plenty of choice for seating (indoor/outdoor, for singles, couples, families). I would recommend this place!
Great local cafe....ambience fantastic, with a great communal feel and touch. Run by a lovely family which shines through in the warmth of the service. Food, coffee up there with others in the area and Friday night drinks & tapas a winner too!!
Came here for breakfast with a friend and while we got the same breakfast (avo smash with eggs on toast) she is vegan and they accommodated by putting all the animal products on the side and I got to have them! Apart from making delicious food, they are flexible and hospitable and really friendly. Great atmosphere too.
Just went here for breakfast and couldn't really fault it... Staff are super friendly, reasonably priced and the food was awesome, the warm roast pumpkin salad with goats cheese was super filling and fresh and the "all about peanut butter" raw bar was really good, although $7 for a tiny slice is ridiculous! Other then that, would definitely go back!
The baked eggs were amazing! The smashed avo was also delicious. Good coffee too, service was attentive and friendly, we will definitely be coming back
Found this little gem after a quick search on Zomato. If you haven't been here before I'd advise you to make the trip. The service was brilliant, the staff and owner were so attentive but not to the point of been intrusive.
Been a Sunday lunchtime, the wait for food and drinks wasn't long at all, and the menu offers your standard fare of brekky and lunch options. The hubby went for the corn fritters which was delish and I had the chicken burger with chips and aioli. It was extremely filling and yummy, with the only downside that it was quite messy and runny due to the coleslaw.
All in all, well worth the visit for a relaxing meal.
Great coffee and loved the stuffed mushroom with black truffle oil (a bit more truffle oil would be good, but one can never have enough!).
Lovely atmosphere and friendly service.
JABT. Great Coffee. Great food, Great environment.
the staff were very friendly. all had smiling faces, and helped with choice selection of dishes. The coffee was nice but needed to be hotter.
Loved the corn fritters with tomato relish, and smashed avo with pesto. Looked amazing! Recommended. Coffee was delicious, service friendly!

This is a fairly fresh new cafe which opened less than 6 months ago. It is still a slightly hidden gem. However, the popularity of this place is growing with a table at 10.30am on a Saturday being roughly a 20 minute wait. The tables were fantastic! They were nice and big with 4 people fitting very comfortably which is uncommon in cafes these days. The decor and environment of the cafe was really cool.
Dropped in for end of the day and the staff were awsum and my strong cap was perfect
Def be back
Well done guys...nice fit out and 5 senses coffee keep it up tho ....plz
This is a great addition to the neighbourhood. The coffee is excellent as is the food and the staff are terrific. I have nothing negative to say about the place. Keep up the good work.
Well worth it!
If your after amazing food, incredible coffee, a nice chilled vibe and super friendly staff. This is the place to be! Even when its busy iv never waited longer then 15min to get my food!
Went to Jake and the Beans Talk for lunch on Sunday. The staff were very friendly and we were seated promptly on arrival. The coffee was nice but needed to be hotter. I ordered the field mushrooms stuffed with feta scrambled eggs with a rocket salad, sourdough and romesco sauce. Was a very tasty dish. My only complaint was that it was lukewarm. All in all a pleasant experience though.

Visited this place this morning at 10.30 on a saturday. There was a 20 minute wait for a table of 4 which is pretty standard. The tables were nice and big with 4 people fitting comfortably which seems to be a little uncommon at cafes these days. The decor and environment of the place was really cool. Between us we tried the eggs benedict, baked eggs, french toast and smashed avo. Everything was impeccable and honestly some of the better brunch food that I've had in a while. We stayed for a few hours and were not rushed at all. Definitely worth a revisit.
So lucky to have JATBT open up nearby. What a great spot for a weekend brunch. The cafe is bright and breezy on the inside. Staff are welcoming and will try to accommodate your every request. Coffee is super yummy, fresh juices and smoothies are also great. They have a super yummy warm chicken salad that is the bomb diggity- always hits the spot. Eggs on toast are simple but delicious with a few sides (goats cheese and salmon are my favourite). Zucchini Fritters are also super tasty too!
Enjoyed a very pleasant breakfast here. Smashed avocado with a perfectly poached egg. Daughter enjoyed the Jakes Big Breakfast. Both very nice. Great coffee too! Staff are very pleasant. Very popular spot. Gets busy. If you are planning to catch up wuith friends here, recommend you call and book to avoid dissappointment.
Would be easy to miss as the cafe is in a fairly nondescript group of shops! But you could certainly kick yourself if you don't find it. Super friendly staff, nice fit out , & super tasty food 😊. Coffee/tea & hot chocolate also hit the spot
AMAZING FOOD AND SERVICE :) must visit this place! We had burgers and French toast and they were very good!!!! Will be back against for another brunch session!!!
I had a really nice coffee here! Ordered the Moroccan Baked Eggs with chorizo and sourdough toast, and would definitely order it again. Service was fine, however the standouts for me were the delicious food and the relaxed, pleasant atmosphere. Food 8.5/10, service 5/10, ambience 7.5/10.
I love this place... Amazing food. Have been here a few times and have never been disappointed. The staff is great. Defiantly recommend.....
Yum yum yum! Great atmosphere, plenty of seating and very friendly and attentive staff. It is always nice when the staff ask if you enjoyed your meal!
Great new place for coffee not far from the old dairy bell. Great breakfast and lunches. The only issue is its a little cold in there, otherwise I will be frequenting here often.
This area definitely needed a good cafe, and Jake and the Beans Talk delivers. We went a few weeks after it had just opened and were surprised at how full it was- obviously already a favourite amongst locals, and those of us passing through the area. I ordered the porridge which was 'just right' for a cold morning. Love the fit out of the place- typical Melbourne cafe decor, but you can't go past that, can you? Overall, great service, great food, great coffee- ticks all the boxes!
The environment are good, staff are nice, me and friend enjoy the food here, I just don't like the iced chocolate.... It's a bit milky for me, prefer more chocolate taste. Overall are good.
Loving our new local - which is right up there with the best of the best. Coffee excellent, food SUPERB - and think I have now found an Eggs Bennie which may surpass my fave from Journeyman. Also, their spicy homemade relish is out of this world! Service always fast and friendly too and love that u can sit outside in the sun. Only criticism is the prices are just a little high. Keep it up guys. Love ya! :)
Goodness me what a smooth velvety coffee! Perfect temperature and consistency. Such a pleasant surprise when coffee is genuinely brilliant. Cabinet food was high quality. Very popular, and quite rightly so. Service is good and accommodating. If you're coffee hunting, you won't go wrong with this place. I'll be back if I'm ever in the area.
Great coffee, great food and really friendly staff. Always very accommodating for food intolerant people like myself. Best GF bread I've had at a cafe. They even offer lactose free milk. We love it!
Great little cafe that has just opened up in Malvern East, ticks all the boxes for me. Staff were lovely, food arrived quickly and was delicious, coffee was strong and hot! ☕
A fantastically warm and welcoming cafe with great service and inviting dècor. Breakfast is heavenly and I highly recommend the corn fritters and the Moroccan baked eggs. A little gem in the rough and we will surely be back.
Awesome food and even better coffee!. There are cafes popping up all over the place at the moment but Jake and the beans talk is by far the best in town! 5/5
I've been to Jake and the Beans Talk a handful of times now and will continue to go back. Despite living closer to numerous other cafes, I keep returning as the coffee is fantastic every time, something I find to be inconsistent elsewhere, and I'm yet to have a bad meal.
The only downside is that like every popular cafe it gets very busy and it looks as though they're a bit understaffed and hectic at times. The seating arrangement is probably not quite right and a bit difficult to get down the back so I prefer to sit out the front of the cafe away from the hustle and bustle.
Wow my third time here and it just keeps getting better. Great coffee food amazing. Just had the brioche with bananas bacon etc. my fav so far!! Yum !!! My friend had the potato hash. It was amazing too. Service is fantastic very friendly staff and very attentive My new local cafe.
Great Service and Delicious Coffee. We tried Jake and the Beans Talk for coffee/brunch this morning. All four of us ordered a coffee and three out of four a light meal. Coffee came out quickly - despite the fact the place was absolutely packed - and was delicious. Staff are well trained and very attentive which was great and always makes me want to return to a cafe. Unfortunately, our food did not show up after about 40 mins. We asked about it and the staff were very apologetic, but even better than that, our waitress actually went to investigate what had happened! I could hardly believe it. We were told that our order had gone through to the kitchen but had gotten lost after that. Totally reasonable and understandable explanation, especially since Jake has only been open a week and mistakes happen. We decided to cancel our food order (I should say staff offered to rush the order through for us). As we were leaving senior staff apologised again and said our coffees were on the house. I really can't fault this place for service. Sometimes things go wrong and that's understandable, it's how a problem is dealt with that's important and these guys nailed it. We said we'd be back and meant it. Menu sounds nice and other tables' food looked good, so looking forward to our next visit.
Great new cafe. Coffee is a highlight. Pancakes were really good. Coffee and food came quickly. Went on Easter weekend and they didn't charge public holiday rates. Staff really friendly. I can see this place getting difficult to get in as there aren't a lot of tables.
