Review Cafe Claremont - Malvern

The food was really good I had a good experience here I have been visiting for a quiet time for now. The food and coffee is really good I loved everything over there.

My friends and I had brunch at Claremont cafe. We were sitting in the backyard which was really nice. I ordered Shakshuka served with Halloumi. We all loved our dishes. I also ordered two coffees . It wasn’t burnt at all, and tasted good. The staff were really attentive too.

You haven’t lived if you haven’t tried the shakshuka eggs here. Best food I’ve ever had in my life. Always craving it. Will always keep coming back. Coffee is great too.

Nice baked eggs, great coffee, thanks Cafe Claremont team!

Really lovely place to eat. We ate in the small area inside and it was a little loud but not too bad. The food was really great. 👌

Guys if you add doordash i will order every single day the super salad with lamb. Uber eats doesn't reach my home. Best super salad i ever had... wish I could have it more often

I'm not a regular here but dropped in recently when in the area. Great food and coffee and the staff was very welcoming, efficient and super friendly. The cafe is in a great location, just minutes away from the Malvern railway station. Will come back.

This is our Go to place on the weekend!, Food is great, Coffee is so good it should be illegal! , the staff are so friendly it's like your visiting friends...which is kind of true because they treat every customer with a warm smile and a helpful attitude... we always leave here feeling better than when we walked in!... I could go on for ages saying how awesomely perfect their poached eggs on toast are but you should just go and find out for yourself!, be warned though....you'll want to go back...again and again... Also, on a sunny day the back garden dining area is great....and did i mention the cakes... >.< what are you waiting for...GO ! :-)

Staff were super friendly! Food was average - tasty enough but nothing fantastic. I found it to be a bit pricey. My friend was charged an extra $2 per egg on her dish without being told of this extra charge.

Taste: 8<br/>Cauliflower and truffle soup (special of the day): 8 - generous serve of hearty, tasty soup with excellent crusty bread (though we wish there was more!)<br/>Shakshuka: 8 - super flavourful with large chunks of halloumi throughout! <br/>Coffee: 7<br/>Ambience: 8 - cute inside area with options for outdoor dining.<br/>Value for money: 8 - good portion sizes, touch on the expensive side (~$23 for food and coffee).<br/>Speed: 10 - very prompt service!<br/>Dietary Requirements: Decent vegetarian and gluten-free options, though was serving a reduced menu due to Covid-19<br/>Comments: also had takeaway meals available!<br/>Overall: 8/10

Service great, burger and chips tasty, coffee really good. Sandwich taste, not a fan. Overall a nice place. Next time will order something else besides the sandwich

I went here to catch up with a friend using my gold membership. It is a really nice spot with a nice ambience and I'd highly recommend since it is in a empty locality.<br/>The waitress at the place was quite nice and recommended me the green omelette which was quite splendid and the egg plant with the greens mixed so well. <br/><br/>My friend got the salmon rosti which was quite fresh, but was complaining about the sweet potato roast undeneath which was alittle burnt. <br/><br/>Their freshly squeezed orange juice was quite good and fresh. A very good experience with the 1+1 food offer.

Chilli scrambled eggs and avo on toast are both delicious, great range of flavours and tastes like something you couldn’t make yourself.
Ingrid
Small cafe but the mocha and chips & burger are pretty nice. Though the salmon egg benedict is so so. I can see myself coming back again!
Sarah
Cozy cafe featuring a changing specials menu to mix things up. It was the biggest serving of smashed avo I've ever seen! Unfortunately the olive toast didn't pair too well as it was difficult to cut and tough to bite.
Farha
Ordered the shakshuka & a large latte. Both were faultless & delicious. Service was great. Will definitely be back!

Customer service was a hit and miss. From our waitress it was a hit and the cashier a miss. She was quite abrupt and rude. The Reuben sandwich was pretty tasty and very generous. However the eggs benny was good but the hollandaise sauce was quite vinegary. The outside courtyard was lovely with a pretty mural on the wall. Overall good but room for improvement. Would go back and try lunch another time.

This place have many regulars and nicely located next to railway station. Parking is good a few 2 hours nearby. <br/><br/>Menu was simple and nice. <br/><br/>The latte and chai was very watery 2/5<br/><br/>Chicken meal was quite nice 3/5<br/><br/>Beef sandwich taste weird and not up to the mark 2/5<br/><br/>Service was above average 3/5.<br/>
Junyan Toh
Falafel wrap, salmon tart and hazelnut muffin from the display. All taste great, fresh and flavorful. The coffee is nice too. Enjoyed it here.
Linda
The service was very good. Staffs were warm and friendly. We love how our eggs were done. We will be back soon.

They do the best pancake around the joint. Very nice place to relax have some food and a nice coffee during the week end.

A gem in the heart of Malvern! <br/><br/>"T h e B u r g e r" w. Bacon + cheese + caramelised onion + aioli & fries. Some say no one reads the reviews but just look at the photos and move on, however I still wish to give an honest opinion. While the burger was well cooked and the flavours balanced on the palate it all felt like a road well travelled with nothing new to experience. <br/><br/>Breakfast goers in melbourne expect some personality from the chef and staff. I say this because unlike other cities melbournians will pay a premium, are fiercely loyal and love their food/coffee like they love their footy team. Stacking chips in a square is not personality, at $17.50 for a meal it comes across lazy. Show me who you are through the food, draw on the inspiration from your past if need be.<br/><br/>The Mexican<br/><br/>Scrambled eggs w. Coriander + tomato salsa + jalapeño + bacon + shredded tasty cheese, wrapped in a tortilla, served with chipotle mayo! 🍅🍴🍶 <br/><br/>Thanks so much @cafeclaremont for the invitation! It was a much enjoyable experience! A lovely warming vibe which made the food taste even better! Loved the great service! <br/>If you're after good honest food and a decent feed, this place will always deliver!

Very nice relaxed and quiet venue. The menu is full of choices and the coffee was good. Food from the menu looked to be delicious and what I had from the cabinet was very quick n tasty. Served with a smile. The waitress was pleasant and unassuming. It was a pleasure to chat .... order..... and be left until we were ready to either order again or leave. I’ve been here before and I will again as one can sit in a relaxed place without feeling everyone else is on top of you.

Arriving with a warm welcome we went to the rear courtyard. Our Server from Taiwan was wonderful and the food glorious. I had a healthy salad with Humus pita and grilled chicken. We also had a falafel wrap cru chat chips and folded beef Mexican wraps and a great coffee. <br/>The owner, Shlomi is warm and hospitable making the brunch experience today worth the money.<br/>Next time we will try pancakes.<br/>
Garyclarke1975
Food was good and the place had a nice atmosphere.<br/>2 negatives - kids meal says eggs any way, but they said no to a boiled egg and the staff that sat us down forgot to mention that we need to order at counter, so say waiting for a while before realising for myself.<br/>But would go back for sure. Had baked eggs and was really nice, great coffee, friendly staff, kids loved the pancakes and the juice smoothie we ordered was delicious. <br/>Recommend this cafe.
Hello. Imnikki
Churro waffles - how could I say no? It was a most indulgent dish for breakfast, with waffles dusted with cinnamon sugar that were crisped on the outside yet soft and fluffy inside. The chocolate sauce added an element of sweetness which was balanced by the tart freeze-dried raspberries.<br/><br/>My only minor gripe would be the missing havla fairy floss. I personally dislike fairy floss but when it's stated on the menu, it should be present on the dish. Queried this with a waitress and she said that because it was a special fairy floss, it might have disintegrated before it reached our table. Say what?!<br/><br/>That aside, everything else was wonderful. My partner's shakshuka was the perfect winter's day meal - hearty and warming. The halloumi gave the dish a further savoury bite, and the toasted bread was perfect to mop up all the delicious sauce.<br/><br/>Our skinny lattes were strong and smooth, very easy to drink. Service was friendly and helpful. A near perfect experience that was unfortunately marred by the fairy floss scandal.

Café Claremont is my 'local' café . Such a gem of a place. Great menu selection, cosy, intimate and superb coffee...  Their home made soups & lasagne  delicious. !! Friendly staff...Highly recommend …Kerry
Places I Eat
Had the pancakes, they were very nice and fluffy. The passion fruit curd was delicious with it. However, I feel like there needs to be maple syrup or some kind of sauce with it, as it was quite boring. But overall, very happy with it and will be back.
Missvu05
Very nice coffee - friendly staffs- i luv your vanilla ball . Always come on Saturday to get their coffee before work start , plain and almond croissant beautiful bake , not like other standard croissant in coles. They do fresh squeeze orange juice too .
Lilyhenshaw28
I really loved this cafe. Staff were very friendly and cafe is easy to get to if you life nearby. I must say, it is slightly crowded inside and the food took quite a long time but other than that my time there was great. I would definitely recommend the chips, smoothies, pancakes and the açai bowl. All the staff were very welcoming and it was nice as it was not very busy. You should definitely go here! XX

A very small place, thus very loud inside. Great coffee and welcoming staff. If you don't mind rubbing elbows with the table next to you .. then order a meal I had a simple Israeli breakfast and the humus was grainy and tasteless. Nothing fancy about the menu. Speedy service.
Miss Sage Sugar
I opted for the delicious ‘Hash Stack – with house made hash brown, spiced baked beans, crispy bacon and avocado, served with pita bread ($18.00)’. My dining companion chose ‘The Mexican – scrambled eggs with coriander, tomato salsa, jalapeños, bacon, shredded tasty cheese, wrapped in a tortilla and served with chipotle mayo ($17.00)’.

This is a lovely little cafe. The staff are friendly and attentive. The coffee is fabulous and the shakshuka was quite nice. I'll be back to try some other breakfast meals. The lunch menu looks good too.
Deadly174
Pet friendly in my mind means you can bring your dog inside or into a courtyard. Not sit out the front in the cold. Definitely not pet friendly. Change your details on Zomato.
Sarah Bell
Great little cafe, with friendly and competent staff. Coffee is spot on and it's hard to choose what to order from the diverse and delicious food menu. Hash stack or the pea fritters are definite favourites!
Lozz
This place never disappoints. Great coffee, and have always had delicious breakfasts/brunch here! Good portions too! Staff attentive and accomodating. Back courtyard area a bonus for this area.
ChipCritic
After a brief hiatus from Zomato, I've come back to review the chips at Cafe Claremont. They were some fine chips, the crispy parts were especially delectable, yet there were not enough of them. Usually I prefer thin cut chips, however, I was willing to make an exception for these as they tasted quite nice. Also, usually with thick cut chips you get that awful mouthful of raw/heavy potato, but with these I had no such displeasure. I will be back for a large bowl of these in the near distant future.

Small but nice little place near Malvern Station.<br/>Ordered a Latte and the Brekkie Mushrooms.<br/><br/>Coffee was beautiful.<br/>Meal was delicious. If you're a mushroom fan like me it had to be done right. And for me it was. Would have liked a second piece of toast to soak up the juices. <br/><br/>Left with a Muffin on the House. <br/><br/>Check them out.
KaraokeKlazzik
Should have gone-on with my 1st impressions and left this place well alone! But had to return for confirmation. Yes, sadly, it is confirmed - it is just pretty average. Much of the same-old same-old on its menu as hundreds of other similar brekkie-brunch-lunch cafes. Meals looked great but lacked tastes (we've had 4 different breakfast dishes in 2 visits)... very, very bland. The coffee has a good aroma, nice aftertaste, but lacks body and oomph (and we ordered STRONG flat whites). PS: Whose bright idea was it that now every breakfast place in Melbourne serves toasted sourdough bread for breakfast ... they are like bathroom files, real teeth-breakers ... I have no other options here, like plain white toasts ... !!??
Alano
Went in for a coffee. Ordered strong flat white which was great!<br/>Was greeted and seated straightaway upon entry. The cafe location is fantastic, lovely spot. Will be back.

DO: The pea and mint fritters. <br/><br/>DON'T: Forget the coffees. Great beans. <br/><br/>TIP: Plenty of street parking. Sit outside and read the paper. Life is good.

Amazing place! <br/>From the cafe to the hamburger and finally the service!<br/>The hamburger was delicious and served with a smile! Would definitely recommend that place!

Had lunch here on a beautiful Sunday. Both indoor and courtyard seatings available.<br/><br/>Really good coffee and an interesting all day breakfast menu is on offer. We had the special pea and mint fritter with grilled halloumi and it was delicious.

Has very quickly become a family favourite for a quick lunch with our two little girls!<br/><br/>Coffee... awesome. Perfect espresso / double<br/>Eggs.... no matter how they comw, perfect every time.<br/>Reuben... OMG... shame im off bread at the moment as i miss it badly<br/>Chop Chop Salad... the perfect mix and the perfect taste<br/><br/>We have also tried others such as the Smashed Avo... you seriously can't go wrong!!<br/><br/>Staff are just so friendly and nothing is a hassle. Even if they are not having a good day they still smile!!
Xuan Anh Nguyen
Their sandwiches are really fresh and tasty. Staff are nice and friendly and the coffee is always of consistent quality. Their table tops are perfect for taking pictures too!

We had a English breakfast tea & strong latte, a cherry Danish , a burger& a Middle East style baked egg. I love the atmosphere at the courtyard, hubby loves his coffee, he says its beyond average. Not a really big fan of the spice they cooked the backed egg but love the burger . Cozy environment, really friendly staffs. Great Danish from the counter, we even have another one chocolate croissant for take away . Great cafe !

Claremont Cafe is a quiet not so quite cafe, one of those cafes that is not crowded or hyped but has a constant flow of customers, and one of those places where you can spend a bit of time eating without the pressure of having people queuing to grab you seat. <br/><br/>Comfortable and pleasant to the eye, this cafe has a small menu, but with some interesting options for breakfast and lunch.  while other options are pre-prepared in the cabinet, like the quesadillas, or the visually enthralling muffins. .<br/><br/>I had the  Egyptian Eggs for brunch and the dish was really yummy. It was beautifully plated, it has different textures, the eggs were perfectly poached and the babaganuch was delicious. I wanted more babaganush in my plate! So good!  <br/><br/> The food took little time to come out, something I always appreciate.<br/><br/>Coffee was a bit a "wikiniki",  despite being well prepared. So it is the roasting of the beans, or the beans they use or  both things. Perhaps the number of shots in the cup? . <br/><br/>All the staff were unobtrusive but nice enough, and very attentive on exit, my exit. <br/><br/>The place lacks a bit in ambience to be fair, and the space between tables in the outer part of the cafe are extremely narrow, so you bum will be on somebody's face when you go in between, and you will be part of next table's date. Memorable in a way :).<br/><br/>Very pleasant overall, and the food on my plate was yummy.

Very lovely staff, always interested to see what masterpiece is on the blackboard :) Great coffee and they make a ridiculously rich chai latte that I usually get every time I visit! Keen on getting a tea from their wide range next time.

We are big fans of breakfast and we eat a high protein diet and usually have 2 breakfasts a day. This was our 2nd one after a hike in the Dandenongs and it didn't disappoint. <br/><br/>A quaint cafe away from the hustle of Glenferrie the staff very friendly and happy even on a Sunday and they had lovely artwork inside as well <br/><br/>Yay for having almond milk - All Press coffee a hit and the Avocado on olive bread perfect. Lots of crumbled feta, 2 sides of crisp bacon with some spinach and tomato on the side made this a feast for 2. We aren't big eaters and always prefer quality not quantity and this was a small meal based on quality. Will definitely be back in this week.
Food Comatose
Tucked up on sloping Claremont Avenue, this humble dwelling is ideal for long weekend brunches and coffee catch ups. Observing the space, I liked the simple set up with modern touches and an abundance of pot plants! You can never have enough greenery to freshen up the ambience! We opted for the fetching courtyard seating in the sunshine but there’s also plenty of seating on the street corner and inside the roomy cafeteria itself.<br/><br/>I was very pleased with the considerate staff offering immediate seating and an amicable presence, however, I could tell everyone was a bit flustered and unorganised. Working in hospitality is a tough gig, but keep up the smiles guys, you’re doing great!<br/><br/>Our smooth coffee brews by Allpress ($3.00 -3.50 each) were top-notch but I can’t say the same about our meals. We ordered the Smoky Baked Beans ($16.90) with house made baked beans, fried eggs, chorizo and goats cheese and the Shakshuka ($15.90) – Middle Eastern baked eggs with spiced tomato, peppers and haloumi cheese served with grilled turkish bread. I was impressed with the appetizing presentation and generous servings but taste-wise, the dishes just didn’t deliver. The shakshuka eggs were rubbery and didn’t blend well with the sauce. The haloumi was also quite tough and chewy, not the goeey cheesy goodness I was hoping for. By far one of the worst Shakshuka dishes I’ve had. The beans were more interesting and flavoursome and the eggs were cooked well, oozing golden yolk as we delved in.

Really cute, quaint and peaceful little cafe tucked away on a lovely little street.<br/>Staff were very obliging and helpful with the menu.<br/>Servings are generous and delicious!<br/>My girlfriend and I had a lovely meal and catch up.<br/>Will definitely be back.
Bobbyan87
We just love the coffee at Cafe Claremont. The friendly team are pretty consistent too, which is amazing. <br/>If I could make a recommendation: order the egg and bacon brioche and make sure that you get the yummy relish.
Tommy Kingsley
Great to see a cafe thats open nice and early for the tradies to grab their muffins and coffees. Consistent cuppa everytime and friendly warm service.

Cannot find a better place in Malvern with friendly staff every morning with wonderful food and coffee. Always makes my morning rail, hail or shine.
Malisa Sen
Lovely new Spring/Summer menu. Especially the baked eggs and dukkah poached eggs. They also have weekly specials for brekkie/lunch and different salad every week!! Super delish :)
Sandy Pok
I got the pulled lamb & quinoa salad. Delicious! Generous portion and the almonds provide so much crunchy texture in every mouthful!<br/><br/>Dishes that were also ordered at the table were the fritters, the burger and the shakshuka which I did not try, but the overall feedback was positive.<br/><br/>Pictured is the chop chop salad and pulled lamb & quinoa salad with a side of chips.

We went to this cafe as it was in the entertainment book. It was very busy when we arrived (Sunday morning), but the staff were friendly and helpful and happy for us to hover until a spot at the bar bench became free. They then served us drinks and took our food order at the bar bench, then seated us at the first available table.<br/><br/>Food was fabulous. We had blueberry pancakes and the corn and haloumi fritters. Serves were generous without being too big, quality was a step above your average cafe.<br/><br/>Drinks selection was good - there were three chai teas available including a loose leaf chai and two power mix types. They even topped up my tea pot with extra water when I asked.

Great menu!. Absolutely delicious pancakes! Coffee is excellent too.

Coffee and staff excellent. Nice outdoor

Cafe Claremont is the hidden gem on a small strip of shops in the burbs. Walk in with cheerful friendly staff to welcome you, cosy environment with open space and a gorgeous outdoor section with growing herbs and fruits surrounding you while you enjoy your breakfast and sip on your coffee on a sunny day. Large selection from the menu from fancy blueberry pancakes, to everyone’s favourite eggs benedict...
Holly_bobba
Used to kick goals. Visited regularly for the coffee, but in the last week or two, it has really gone down hill. Main barista no longer there, and it certainly shows. <br/>when I go for food, I always order the same salad, but each time it comes out different depending on who's in the kitchen. <br/>I've stopped going.
Littleguy11
Expected more from this cafe. Pics on Urban Spoon look lovely but on Mother's Day the menu was restrictive and lot of what you see wasn't available. My salad was gritty, I informed the owner and he didn't charge me but it kind if ruined my experience.
Viv DLR
Fantastic service! They gave me a little green smoothie for free (as they made too much for someone else). Comfy spot to sit and chat. Really great flat white. Ordered the green brekkie which was yumm but the poached eggs were a bit overdone (not runny). Will visit again and try another dish.
Goddesswhahaha
Just lovely. Lovely service, lovely food, lovely coffee. The chips are awesome. So is the courtyard but bring a hat if it's sunny.
Leslie Lawrence
Best coffee in Melbourne!
Leelee
Lovely little chilled cafe!. Came here with a friend and was attended by the most humble, smiley waiters. Friend ordered the special hollandaise eggs, which she loved and i just got the eggs on toast with bacon - Yum Yum (their eggs were free range too!!!). A great place for your catch ups and easy to talk among ourselves with no distraction from a loud crowd :) - thank you for an awesome brunch!
Chloe.sztejman
Love this place!. Food is fresh and delicious - probably because the owner is an professional chef.. Always exciting specials on offer. Allpress coffee is consistent and well made..

Something special - NEW owners. What else could one ask for :) a great hearty bfast ....the poached eggs are to die for and even went back for lunch on another day and the lamb and cous cous salad are delightful. Comfortable and warm place - what else can u want during winter

Rude, bad service, bad coffee. Too often I would go here because it is close to work, every time I regret it. The staff are horrible, too important to serve you, ignore you as you wait and wait at the counter, talking to other staff, or on the phone telling you wait, forgetting what you order, and generally really rude in manner and tone. And the coffee... Hit and miss... Sometimes it just burns down your throat, along with the milk skin that has formed. My advice walk down station street and go to one of the cafes/restaurants there.
Gin
Exactly what a good cafe should be ... good coffee, efficient and good service, and no pretense!!
