Review Ped's Kafe - Malvern

Mitra Houshangi
Amazing foods , superbly delicious, friendly service and great vibes every time.one of my favourite Thai restaurants.
Chip Ip
Lovely staff, clean eating area, well presented food. Cons...a bit steep on the price. Food isnt what I would say truly authentic Thai but it is nice for what it is. They had a steady stream of customers for a Monday evening. Easy to get to via tram. They dont open for lunch, however, they make exceptions for group functions of 20.

Weds night Take Away - really not good at all ?? Golden Bags burnt and soggy on bottom- awful taste. Uneatable . Green Curry very watery - a few bits of chicken with two peas and some old Vegie I could not name? Roti bread oily and burnt?
Marc Ferne
Awesome food and friendly staff! Highly recommend the lamb shanks! Will be back!
Jen Fookes
Outstanding meals and helpful, friendly staff. The food is always well presented and tasty
Ruth Maserow
Absolutely delicious. Beautiful presentation. Bright flavours. Highly recommend!

Food is always a 10/10. Best Thai food I've ever eaten.
Daniella Brusac
Best / most authentic Thai restaurant I have been to in the eastern suburbs. The taste is incredible, the dishes are also very well presented, it's become our favorite local eat!
Frank Pasutto
What can l say? Great food, fantastic service, reasonably priced and cool ambience. Definitely be back!! Thank you to the Chef and staff for making my night a great night.
Eric Low
Wow! What a neighbourhood gem! A great discovery indeed. Sensational tasty dishes. Not your normal suburban Thai cafe. Quality of their offerings is worthy of a classy Thai restaurant. Malvern, Carnegie, Murrumbeena, Caulfield, Glenhuntly have their fair share of Thai eating places and we have been to 90% of them. Ped's Kafe we now rank No.1!!!
Marla Stotland
Food was amazing and really reasonable pricing highly recommend it
Binh Luong
Amazing šŸ˜ had the soft shell crab with apple slaw and beed massaman. Yum!
Judge Griff
Quite simply the best Thai food you will ever eat. Anywhere.
Ian Holland
We had take-away. Food was great. Pleasant surprise to open the bag and find "thank-you" hand written on a lid along with a little heart drawn along side. Looking forward to dining there next time.

Everything was very extravagantly presented. I would really like to go back and try more because that curry was amazing and I feel like all the others would be quite good as well. And you can bring your own wine. Skip the eggs though.
Viet Doan
The food was amazing for a price that won't murder your wallet. Very different from many hype Thai restaurants and I somewhat prefer this style more. No crazy crowds, no crazy interior, just food.

The food is sooo delicious and beautifully presented. My favourite dish is the spicy lamb which I recommend, it is so spicy (which I LOVE) , it might be a little overpriced but the taste makes up for it!!! The service was great, the staff were really kind and friendly, I even got mentos from them after the food was paid. My only problem is that they should open earlier. I always crave that spicy lamb dish ;(

You will find Ped's Kafe in an unassuming part of East Malvern but dining here is a culinary experience that won't break your credit card. I am ordinarily a lover of Thai food and this restaurant met my sweet spot when it comes to flavour combinations (sweet, salty, sour and bitter) and presentation.

My table had 10 guests. To make life easier we ordered the buffet which had a wide selection of dishes including prawn and beef skewers, yum beef salad, tom yum soup and lamb shank. My favourite was the seafood green curry that was served inside an actual coconut and the pad thai. The salads were fresh, stir fried greens were tender and seafood outstanding.

The decor of the place is nothing too flash but serve was friendly and efficient. We left totally satisfied with four container worth of leftovers. Totally recommend this place!

Chill Thai restaurant (3.8 ā)

Ambience:

The place is pretty nice, good space between tables and definitely has a laidback environment.

Service:

Staffs were all really friendly, we came with one of the staff so couldn't say much about it.

Food:

Dumplings were small so it fits in your mouth, easy to eat. Pretty good taste wise, though not special or fancy. Came with a vinegar sauce.

The fried calamari was the bomb. Was so well fried and so moist but bouncy and crunchy outside! The sauce was so good.

Massaman beef curry was pretty generous. The beef was very flavourful and it tasted a little bit like Indonesian rendang, that being said the meat was a bit though. The curry itself was a good balance of spicy, sweet and salty, definitely nutty and also containeed some steamed potatoes and peanuts, though it tasted unlike other massaman I've had so I'm not so sure whether that's a good thing or not.

Siam Kasat was also enjoyable. Prawns had good texture, fried calamari was well fried, vegs on top ave a refreshing touch, i like the flavourful sauce.

The lamb shank was yummy, lamb itself was tender, could be more tender though. Flavor was similar to a curry. Came with some mushrooms and peas.

Fried barramundi was served in two big fillets, so you have to cut it up. It's well fried, and I love the sauce that came with it, only thing that I had to point out was that the meat was a tad bit dry. Overall enjoyable, and you also get some stir fried greens and picked veggies.

Stir fried beef with broccoli and string beans was quite good. It's bit on the salty side without the sour, with just a hint of sweet. Beef was pretty tender and veggies were crunchy. Portion was decent.

The coconut ice cream was pretty yum, it wasn't too sweet and definitely wasn't sickening, it was not very smooth/creamy though.

Coconut rice was fragrant.

Price: decent pricing

YUM: fried calamari, lamb shank, siam kasat
NAH: none

( follow for more!āœØ)

ļ½˜ļ½˜ļ¼Œļ½Šļ½ļ½…ļ½Œļ½Œļ½….

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Melbourne. The flavors of the basil stirfry, the special crispy chicken and coconut rice are amazing. I wouldnt waste my money going to overhyped restaurants like chin chin- the service at peds far outweighs any other thai restaurants I've been to in Melbourne!
Cat Lane
Terrible. I've given this place atleast four chances. Twice in the restaurant, twice as takeaway. Fish cakes (always a good test for a Thai restaurant's quality) weren't great tonight. The Massaman curry tasted fatty and had an odd flavour. The chicken skewers were chewy. The coconut rice had bitey, granular stuff all through it like dirt. I'm never ordering here again. Perhaps many Malvern East people don't know real Thai food but this isn't it. Better Thai in Ashwood on the corner. Just saying. I have no affiliation anywhere and live close to Ped's so wish it was better. Wasted my $50 tonight and couldn't eat it.
Vishal Mirchandani
Small, cozy place that gives you yummy food with classy presentation! Just the right amount for a satisfied tummy. Close to home so wouldn't mind making it our regular Thai place! Was a tad bit too pricey but I guess that's compensated for in taste and quality. Give it a try people of Malvern East locality!

Celebrated my girlfriendā€™s birthday here and couldnā€™t ask for a better place! Great atmosphere and decor! The good was fantastic - highly recommend the lamb shanks curry, green curry in a coconut and the chicken satay skewers! Very tasty and looks aesthetically pleasing! A great value for money as well as the bill came in significantly less than what i was expecting. Thank you for a great and memorable meal :)
Vivian
Been there with lots friends. The restaurant place is not big and located in the corner block. The food was ok and just on the average level, but all the dishes with the shredded carrots and cabbage as the side. Appetisers like spring rolls, parwns, curry puffs are not really recommonded.
Maria Alejandra Perez
The calamari appetiser was awesome. They have gluten free options and they know exactly which plate has gluten (sometimes is hard to find somebody to really understand what gluten means). Our food was very good but not extremely good. However, the portions were massive and the food came really fast. Great and friendly staff. Definitely we will come back.
Jonathan Tran
Amazing local Thai place, not only the food but the presentation of each dish was delectable. Staff are very accommodating too - weā€™ve definitely become regulars after our outing! Would highly recommend.
Hungry Tum
Reasonable Thai food that is prepared fresh and well presented. The curry puffs were delicious, made with home made pastry. The golden bags were ok, a bit dry for my liking. The chicken satays were average - a mix of breast and thigh meat. The tofu and eggplant was ok, especially if you like a very strong garlic flavour.
Jo Yang
Overall quite a happy eat, 2.75/5 on the bloated scale. Ordered the crispy tofu appetizer which was soo soft on the inside and dumplings. Also ordered the chicken pad Thai but wasn't that blown away. The flavor was decent but the hardness of the noodles weren't ideal. The ambience of the restaurant was quite lively, and the look of the store was cosy yet simple, really loved it! Only thing I didn't appreciate was that the air con wasn't turned on even though it was a humid 33 degree day. I was sweating in my seat but enjoying the food nonetheless. Verdict: would recommend this restaurant, food was slightly pricier than other Thai places, but the food was quite delicious!
IZ
Great, fresh food. Good service. Reasonable pricing. This place could charge much more in a better venue given the quality and presentation of the food. Highly recommend. Is small so book.
Tina_b123
Iā€™ve been to Pedā€™s twice now and thoroughly enjoyed both times. The quality and presentation of each dish is always divine. The first time I dined there I had the barramundi, it came with a delicious sauce and salad 5/5 for it! For my second visit I ordered the veggie stir fry with Tofu. The Stir fry was filled with juicy, flavoursome vegetables. The way they did their mushrooms and broccoli were incredible! It certainly ate like a complete meal, filled with different flavours and textures. It was not like eating just a plate of vegetables. The restaurantā€™s setting is low key, which is great if you want to duck in for a casual bite. The staff are lovely, helpful and friendly. Big thumbs up!
FoodieGuru_770
This was a good Thai option near home. Went twice. The first time with my wife and had the whole barramundi. It wasnā€™t the healthiest of options as it was deep fried. The deep fried spring rolls didnā€™t help either. The second time I went with the Hungry Tum and I had the grilled salmon and it was delicious. The only issue is that the Hungry Tum ordered a whole lot of entrees which came first and my Salmon dish came nearly 50 minutes later. That said a good Thai option with nice food and no stomach aches after.
VeganeatsM
The food was presented very nicely however did not taste very good. Also, the menu did not label any vegan options so I had to take my best guess. I ended up having the eggplant salad and found that the flavours really did not go well together. I would only recommend this place if you have no dietary requirements.
Yuiisama
I absolutely love their Tom Kha soup. It's on the sour side but that's the way I like it. I recommend pairing the soup with some delicious green curry and coconut rice.
Service wasn't anything to talk about, the lady who looked like the owner wasn't exactly polite but I'd excuse the service just for the food.
Obaum0106
It's a family tradition that we always go here for a birthday - the food is beyond amazing and presentation is also super good as a bonus! I always leave fully satisfied and full, serving sizes are quite decent and it's very flavoursome and overall such a wonderful dining experience. Staff are super friendly and great as well. Would highly recommend.
Rachael
Expensive, really nice food :) very prettily designed and served by nice staff. Lots of flavour in the food and I really enjoyed the dining atmosphere. I would love to come back and try other things on the menu!
Valencia
Not a bad place to dine and the food and service is pretty good. But it is not a place we will travel all the way from our new place just for this!
Mandy Ngo
Lovely staff ... Food is amazingly good ... my favorite Thai restaurant ever..... the setting of the restaurant is warm an beautiful..... totally love this place.
Jas
I really enjoyed my experience on a cold and wet Wednesday night. It was fairly quiet so service was fast and efficient. I was sceptical about the very high ratings for Ped's but was not disappointed and highly recommend the barramundi main which was delicious. I will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu
Hungry DrDave
Went with a group, 8 of us, and we had the $36 banquet. So much food! The curries were delicious as were the appetisers. Finished off with the mango ice-cream. Great value for money, tasty, local restaurant. Recommended. Took a while to get service started as we were at the 2nd sitting starting at 8pm, but once we'd ordered, the food all flowed quickly.
Jordan Chan
Food came relatively quick and very good!
Service was okay. We had 2 different waitresses, the first one couldn't hear/understand what we said and the way she responded was as if she was yelling but not really bothered by this, happens at most if not all asian places. The second waitress was lovely on the other hand.
If you BYO alcohol, they charge you about $2-3 per person for the glass which is pretty good.
Maryanne
Definitely a local favourite around this area - understandably so, as they never disappoint. It's always jam-packed in the a restaurant but lucky for us we live close by and also ring in to collect. We've tried a few things on the menu, very yummy. We'll continue coming here.

Highly Recommended A++ Great Staff, Food was out in under 10min. Calamari and Lamb Curry was amazing. Was Actually blown away when I saw the meat falling off the bone. Suoer Tasty meal!! My New Favourite place to eat!
Yin
Awesome furnishings, cozy yet open and breezy setting, friendly staff, most importantly fresh and delicious Thai food! I love especially how green and other colourful vegetables remain crisp and fresh (but cooked) in the fragrant, lovely curry. The tom yum is not too sweet or sour, just right. The son-in-law egg is flavoursome, I love the fried egg skin and soft boiled inside.
Gina
Quick and friendly service, nice dinning environment. Tried red & green curries, good pitch of spice, not too heavy nor hot. Rice is mixed with brown nicely cooked.
Vegbourne
lemongrass and the sauce is just right mix of sweet, sour, chili and salt. Spring rolls did have some fish sauce in it so can't comment on the taste. For mains we ordered fried rice, pad Thai and eggplant and tofu stir fry(which they willingly made with gravy as we couldn't have the curries). The first thing that comes to mind when I think of Thai food is fresh vegetables and this place nails it. All the veggies in every dish was crunchy, fresh and absolutely amazing. The eggplant stir fry was to die for. I ate most of it šŸ˜Š. Definitely a must go if you love Thai food! #rating4.5 (only cause they couldn't do the curries vegetarian). #melbournefoodie #vegetarianfoodie #thaifood #weekdayoutings #vegbourne #pedskafe #malvern #foodlover #lovefreshveggies #melbourne #veggielover

Great service, great food, nice atmosphere. A little pricey (menu attached must be for take away), but I guess worth it for a nice night out

It's been a couple years since we'd been here and it's only improved! A cute little restaurant and service is great, so attentive, polite and nothing but smiles. We had the steamed dumplings for entree which were delicious. Presentation of the mains was fantastic - the massaman curry, which was so tender the beef just fell apart when you touched it, and the soft shell crab which was sooo amazingly tasty with perfectly cooked slightly crisp vegetables. The coconut was coconutty enough but without being sickly sweet like you can sometimes find at other places. I wish we still lived this side of the city because we'd be here all the time. I love you Peds.

This is not a conventional Thai place although the influence of Thai cooking is evident in this modern Asian place. Recommended dishes would be pork spare ribs, lamb shank and the chicken fried rice. It is a small place so it does get a bit noisy with a few people in it. The service was above par and the portioning was decent too. One of the better Asian/Thai places out there. Recommended!!
Mikaela Boyer
This place was great, crowded but cosy. We had the banquet for two and all of the meals were presented in interesting ways. The green chicken curry was great, and they had a twist on all of the normal entrƩes which was it interesting although lacked the punchy Thai flavours at times.

Needing to grab some takeaway, I thought I would try my luck on another pad thai, this time from Ped's Cafe, which seemed to be quite a popular spot and conveniently placed at the time. Upon walking in, I was mildly surprised to find that it seemed to be another Thai restaurant operated by Koreans. The pad thai they served up was a generous helping, with generous chicken, and a good balance of sweetness, tamarind and wok flavours. The only thing that let it down was the noodles, which were a bit undercooked throughout. The texture was strange as a result, with the noodles having a stiffer, chewy quality that is more suitable to something like a pasta dish. It was a shame as all the other elements were there. It wasn't worth the steep price of $14.90, although maybe they charge more due to the affluence of the area. Perhaps their forte lies in other dishes.

We have been to Ped's Kate for dinner few times, and never disappointed. We like the roti with satay sauce and green curry chicken. Green curry and coconut rice are prefect match. We tried their special pork ribs and soft shell crab apple salad which is okay.
Great dessert, sticky rice with taro served with ice-cream, and custard pancake with ice-cream
Price is reasonable, about $30 per person
The service is okay. However, we are asked to leave before 10:30

Woweeee!!! This place is amazing. Lives up to its high rating. We will skip the other Thai places around our area now and go here. The serves are generous and food is just delicious.
Flaming Goose70
Dined here a few times and food was reasonable. Nice little cozy restaurant, warm and inviting. Seafood red curry was the best dish but steer clear of the chicken as it has almost a Chinese flavour to it. We also noticed that serving portions had gotten smaller, which is disappointing considering the menu prices are at the higher end for Thai restaurants.
FoodCritter
This is actually the best Thai food I've had in Melbourne. I have had so many green curries (good and bad) so some would say I'm kind of an expert on this dish, Ped's green curry is definitely a go to for me - delicious! Everything is so beautifully presented and you can see and taste that the food is so fresh! It's quite small inside so make sure you book a table if you are dining with more than two. The place has a really nice vibe and the staff are nice. I highly recommend this place and I do go back often, and will continue to do so as long as they keep up the good work!
Suzie
Amazing food and great service. Best Thai food in Melbourne, especially the Tom Yum! I have tried most dishes on the menu and are always impressed!
Ed
OMG.....i guess the best Thai food i ever had in my life. Truly starting from Menu...taste....& service for sure. Excellent food experience all the time. Everybody is so welcoming and feels like family.

Guys just a request to keep you the same level and expect to have the same in future.

Must try : pad see ew with chicken or sea food, veg fried rice, stirfry with chicken and chilli paste.
Yan Mak
We ordered takeaways on Friday night, order was ready in ard 20 mins which is fair. Very big portion. We had pad Thai, green curry chicken and roti(entree) which is more than enough for two of us. Nice food, value for money
Ev
Best Thai food I had in Australia. The food here is fresh and full of spice! We have been here for more than 10 times in the past year, every dish we tried was delicious. It might be a little more expensive than all the other restaurants around, but it's definitely worth the price!
Judi
We've eaten here several times in the last 6 months and enjoyed their flavours. But always noted the cheaper cuts of meat used compared to other Thai restaurants we've eaten at and there have been many over many years. The price does not reflect the cheaper cuts either! Last night we ordered a chicken stir fry.I noted the cheaper cuts were still being used and towards the end of the dish much to my horror as I cut a piece of chicken in half I saw it was not properly cooked. It was quite pink with blood in it. I quietly brought it to their attention with a 'I'll let the chef know' and that was it. So when we got the bill I let them know I wasn't happy about the chicken, he went and spoke to the chef and responded with we offer a 10% discount in this case. Which led me to believe this happens frequently? If I had f known how sick we would feel today I would not have paid for the dish. Their attitude really upset me as they didn't show any real concern or offer any compensation. And as usual the toilets are grubby and dirty. No don't need to go back.

This restaurant is amazing. I have eaten here a few times and this place is fantastic,Ā the service was amazing and the food has such beautiful flavours. The food selection on the menu was versatile. We were absolutely blown away by the quality of the food and the ambience of the place. Try any food include dessert, you won't regret!!!

I also tried to take away.
Absolutely love this joint! Delicious thai food for a really affordable price! The staff are really friendly and the food is alway fresh!
Emma Montafia
Excellent meals. Six of us went there, everyone LOVED their mains, the service was excellent and it was definitely reasonably priced. Great experience, will definitely be back.
LittleMissPiggy
Can't comment on the dining experience but the take out does the job!
I got the coconut prawns which are insane, also very expensive but well worth it! I also go the chicken and cashew nut and although it's pretty boring, you get exactly what you ordered! Service is friendly but can be a long wait and can also be a little expensive... Would probably go back to try other things.
Nick Voulanas
This is such a fantastic restaurant. Probably the best Thai fusion in Melbourne, that is economically priced. just don't order take away, it does not do it justice! But do order the tampura, the calamari, the seafood curry, and enjoy.
Li-La
Really tasty, authentic Thai food for a good price. Great for take-aways as this small place is often packed anyway. We used to live nearby and there are a few different ThaĆÆ options in that area but Ped's is definitely the best. Every time we had a Thai craving, we'd call Ped's!
Jay
Excellent food and fantastic service. The coconut prawns and calamari were succulant. The soft shell crab apple salad and the lamb shanks lived upto the reviews. The Barrumandi which was one of the chef's special was huge and tasted divine. Highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for good Thai Food.

Went to this delightful place a few weeks ago with a few friends and thought have to put a review .. This place does not only deserves it, it demands it!! Ok, so the name is a little misleading but the food, wow!! This little eating place has all the ingredients, mouth watering food, absolutely heart warming presentation and small cosy place with warmth.. The food quality is exquisite !! The service a little slow though hence 4.5 but a definate go to place for some excellent thai!!
Jenny T.
Love this place! Except the service. I haven't asked for the bill yet but the staff just throw the bill on my table. Other than service, very impressed with their food:)

1.Tom Yum Prawn - yum! There were 5 middle-size prawns with lovely mushroom! I would say 4.5/5

2. LAMB SHANKS IN MASSAMAN CURRY - OH MY GOD! The best combination I ever had! Its not spicy as I imagined at all! Lamb shanks were very soft and tender going very well with massaman sauce! I give this 100points out of 5 LOL

3. Grilled beef in waterfall salad - hmm this is too plain and tasteless. 3/5

4. Soft shell crab tempura with herbal apple salad - soft shell crabs are really really yummy! Lots of crab meats unlike other restaurants! Herbal apple salad was not too outstanding. 4/5

5. Fried banana with coconut ice cream and sliced apples - yes this is a great dessert to have afterwards! Ice cream has fresh coconut inside while bananas are very good! 4.5/5
Aimseebaby
The food was delicious. We ordered takeaway. Not huge portions for the price but still very tasty and will go back. Don't expect much left over for next days lunch.
Dues
ordered the veggie pad thai, which took forever to arrive and had no flavor. menu looks good but food is very disappointing. extremely overpriced.
Asher
tldr: The food is exceptional while expensive. Staff are super attentive and amazingly friendly. For financial reasons reserve this venue for celebrations or if you just got your pay-check.Ā

Long version:Yes this restaurant is indeed expensive for the average diner.

From a purely business perspective one can see why (Theory of constraints) .Ā

Revenue generation is a numbers game and for restaurants as small as this can't possibly have client turnover that bigger restaurants can. Let's ask ourselves, "Ever heard of quick dinner when eating out?" Probably not, as people like to chat when they eat, which tends to extend the time it takes to eat a meal. The more time that is taken seated at the table, the restaurant can serve even fewer total diners.

Thus Ped's Kafe has chosen to keep high prices to reduce demand, and increase quality so as to truly give a great experience provided it's a special occasion.Ā

Now to the food. Went in here a couple of days ago and we started off by getting the Lightly Fried Tofu (Salad?) dish with sweet chilli sauce. It's a new item on the menu (has not been updated online). The flavours were exquisite and the tofu was pan fried to a crisp outside while leaving the inside tofu beautifully soft. The quantity was much more than we expected.

We ordered the Mr. Wolfe Pinot Noir, a very enjoyable but strong wine.

For the mains, we ordered the Vegetarian Thai Curry and the Mixed Seasonal Vegetables and two serves of rice.Ā
The mixed veggies were cooked perfectly and the homemade sauce provided a rich ensemble of flavours that is similar to other dishes in other restaurants, but still contains that je ne sais quoi. The presentation was exceptional and the carrot placement made it reminiscent of a camp fire (while the spice factor was mild)

The Veg Thai Curry was spicier than the average Thai curry served in other restaurants, although that may have been because people of my ethnic persuasion tend to prefer hotter meals. I am proud of the fact that this dish may have been customised to suit the customer's perceived tastes and it shows an attentiveness to detail that is lacking overall in most other restaurants. The lady serving us offered to add some coconut milk in the curry when we were taking it away as it was a bit too spicy for us (Wow! :) ).Ā

Dessert was something completely out of this world. We ordered the mini Pancakes with custard and tender coconut ice-cream (one dish). This was definitely one of the best desserts I have ever experienced, as it not only looked like it belonged in an art gallery but it also tasted like what I presume the Mona Lisa tastes like (figuratively). Highly Recommend this to everyone who eats here. The quantity is small so you don't have to worry about leaving space in your stomach after the mains.

The decor reminded me of my many trips to Thailand and their traditional homes, so welcoming and warm.Ā

Staff were as attentive as hawks and extremely welcoming. You could call any of the staff and they would comply with your request within seconds.

We will definitely be returning again very soon!

Came here with my partner on a Saturday night. Ordered fried tofu as appetiser and mr wolf Pinot noir. Tofu was Cooked with warm sweet chilli sauce that produced an awful odour. Green Thai curry and stir fried veggies for dinner was yummy!! Staff is very attentive and food is well presented.
Lucas Ozi
Nice enough food, but extremely overpriced. Used to rest there a lot, but they've started thinking too much of themselves... It's more like $45 for one person, not for two.
Renee Kiarie
Went here last night group of 6. Did not have to wait long for our entrees or mains. For entree we had fish cakes, golden bags, samosa's and mini dumplings. All of the entrees were tasty except for the mini dumplings very underwhelming. Our main meals were fresh and descent size's. My pad thai chicken was wonderful. The Beef Massaman and lamb shank curry was so fragrant and flavoursome. Price wise, I would not put it on par with what you would pay at other thai restaurants. But I guess you are paying for fresh flavoursome food here.
Rajat Kapoor
Ordered a take away for the first time, Entree and Mains. Chicken In Curry was raw and undercooked. Disappointed with the food!

Great Thai food, better than in Thailand. Went for birthday dinner. The food was fantastic. Having lived in Thailand, this was the best of the best
Claudia S
Confessions Of A Little Piggy
The restaurant had a really nice vibe to it - warm, friendly and inviting. However, the use of too much salt was just too much. Something endless glasses of water and spoonfuls of rice could not save. On a positive note, sneaking glances and other diners' meals and of course observing our own, we did notice that a lot of thought and creativity had gone into the dishes as they were presented magnificently.
Kenny Khamly
Great little restaurant. Wonderful little restaurant. The guys is great and the presentation and service is wonderful. One of our little treats.
Greg.wilson
Great service and presentation. First time here last night and will definitely return. The food for all 4 of us was thoroughly enjoyed. Presentation was amazing for a small suburban restaurant and the service was great. If you want good thai then this is the place.
Mel
Impressed.. Delicious food. We had takeaway. Quick, friendly service. We will return.
Kejeof
Best thai restaurant around Malvern East. Food was absolutely fantastic and Really fresh and flavorsome.
we will definitely be back again
Bajan
Loved this place. I've been here a couple of times this year and have enjoyed it every time. The food is wonderfully presented, tastes delicious and the staff were very attentive. A great place for Thai food. Will definitely be going back again.
Lovecat
Loved it!!!. Second time I've eaten here, great food, great value, great presentation, great service. Probably the best Thai we've ever had, great flavours. Look forward to the next visit.
Wings
Last friday we visited here.
Taste was great!! and presentation was beautiful also.
specially, I really impressd by grilled scallop & prawn salad. so i asked about dressing to chef. everything was delicious!!
and, staff was friendly and nice.
we'll visit again. It was beautiful!!

Tried persistently to eat at this restaurant. We have eaten here many times, but very disappointed by the service this evening. We arrived to be served an off bottle of white wine, then waited 45 minutes before anyone came to the table to attend to us. When we went to the staff to advise them about the wine and follow up on our order we were told "sorry, but the chef can't keep up with the orders here with all the takeaway." At home diners get priority. Definitely do NOT recommend.
Christina Zierold
Loved our dinner there this evening. Our curries where both amazing (not too spicy which I really liked) and we can highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.
LARDa55
Pleasant Surprise. I was truly surprised with the standard of food at this restaurant.
I love Thai food in Thailand and very rarely come across "Australian" Thai food that meets the standard.
Ped's is exceptional. Great flavours, well presented and good service.
Shayne Callis
Oily thick batter. Ordered calamari and barrumundi. Both came in a thick oily batter. Yuk! Not for me.
JB
Nice tasty food, yet certainly not a stand out. Don't wide birth this restaurant as it is to be enjoyed; deliberately seeking it out is also not a recommendation.
Gerard Evans
Lamb Shank with Special Curry Sauce. Well balanced flavours with a mild curry heat. The lamb is very tender and falls off the bone. An excellent fusion of eastern flavours with western meat.

Disappointing. Went to this restauarant twice in the same week we thought it was that good. Sadly the second time was a bit disappointing as my husband ordered beef stir fry and the meat was tough. When we pointed this out to the host he merely said " next time oreder the beef curry as we use oyster blade in that". Not professional at all.

Amazing food. Everything is delicious and presented fantastically. The service could be worked on, but the food more then makes up for it. The taste keeps me coming back for more.

Perfect Ped!. We went here last night as my sister-in-law has been here before and loved it. She wasn't kidding when she said its one of the best Thai places around. We ordered the golden bags and roti bread with satay sauce. Simply divine! My sister-in-law and I had the massaman curry it had large chunks of beef that were braised to perfection and very tender. Hubby had the Pad Thai, again a divine dish. Brother-in-law had some seafood stir fry and it looked amazing!!! The dishes were large and thus despite hanging for desert we had no room. Cant wait to go back.

Although it's a small place, the staff do their best to make it an amazing dining experience. Not romantic but cosy and low key for a very nice dinner out. We had the coconut prawns & calamari for starters, the see chu chee fish & soft shell crab salad. Everything was so divine and hit the spot. Definitely coming back here!

Frustrating. No menu online, says they deliver and they don't...... Non English speaking on the phone..... Next

Paid over $30 for a chicken stir fry and a serve of noodles. Very expensive and the chicken in the stir fry was chewy pieces of leg. The noodles were fine but too expensive for such a small serve.

Best Thai food in Melbourne. Been searching for a good Thai place in Melbourne and was very impressed with the flavours at Ped's kafe. They have the right mix of authenticity with slight variations on traditional dishes, food is always consistently delicious and service is very friendly.

Nice. I ve been here quite often as my favorite foods are green curry chicken and Pad thai Chicken. Service is good. a beautiful lady with nice smile at the front

Busy Thursday night! Great food presentation. Golden bags delish! Fish cakes were lovely too with the little salad. Roti was quite good but didn't like the dipping sauce it came with, luckily ordered green curry to dip with so that was good. No coconut rice option. Pad Thai a bit sweet so asked for a wedge of lemon which did the trick to balance the flavours. We ordered too much but was allowed to doggy bag the rest. All in all, we enjoyed our meal there and will be back to try some other things on the menu.

Fish curry was generous serving and delicious. Perhaps too much bay leaf but overall manageable. The soft shell crab salad was delicious. Calamari starter was amazing.

We have been a customer of Peds since it opened, unfortunately with the new ownership the quality has dived!! Last nights meal was terrible (T/A), I did call and received an ok response. We will try again and hopefully our feedback will be adhered too.

I been to Ped's Kafe a fews time.
Food is always good beautiful and excellent. Special golden Calamari and Coconut prawn really nice. I keep order every time. Then the massaman curry and Soft shell crap salad is the best.
Siam Kasat i think only Ped's restaurant made it. The staff is very friendly and very good service. Also they have television to show about Thailand as well. I think is very good idea. I will comeback there again for sure.
I like it a lot
JR
A poor restaurant. A restaurant with a TV was ominous. Certainly did not have the ambiance of a Thai restaurant. Whilst the calamari starter was generous and succulent, the coconut prawns were dry. The beef curry was tasty, apart from some inedible bits - presumably fragments of cinnamon stick.
The biggest disappointment was the soft shell crab salad. Basically balls of deep fried batter. Perhaps we just got unlucky with some of the dishes. Nevertheless, taking into consideration the average service, we shall not be returning. Certainly not the place for a special evening.

Oh my! The food here is really good and cheap. Service is excellent. Calamari is to die for. We had the massaman curry to and it was so good-a bit of a wait but we didn't mind. We had the duck salad too and it was good. We didn't order much, but will definitely go back again. BYO wine too so that was nice.

Lamb Shanks..more like Lamb Thanks!!
Wicked sick food at low prices. Roti fans get the Roti. Son in Law egg fans get the Son in Law eggs. Yeah son. You have to go through the kitchen to get to the bathroom so you can have a chat to the chef whippin up yo food. Thanks Ped for a great night with me partner. Xxxxx

One of the best and most original Thai restaurants around. Love the funky presentation, delicious food and host Ped is always the life of the party. A real character who never fails to make us feel special. :)

Good quality dinner. Peds is a good Thai restaurant. Melbourne has more than its share of terrible Thai. I'm glad Peds is not one of them.
Food was tasty, well presented and menu and specials offered something for each of the diners.
Only negative (for those with kids), is no high chair available.
I would recommend for a good quality Thai dinner.
Coconut ice cream is really good.

First time at a Thai restaurant great choice!. For the past month I had been thinking that I would love to try Thai food. I hoped into urbanspoon to see what was well rated so decided to book a table at Ped's for two. Phone service was pleasant and gave me a great first impression. Upon arriving we took our seats and browsed the well presented menus. Being new to Thai food we had starters of Thai fish cakes and roti bread which were delicious!!! My main was the chicken pad thai which was so nice and flavoursome :) the staff were very nice and a pleasure to deal with. The decor was tastefully done and the ambiance of the restaurant was calm and you could easily talk to and hear the person your with so a great place for a quiet dinner for two. Prices are very reasonable and well worth the money spent. Thank you Ped's for a great dining experience and I look forward to returning.

Innovative Thai. Recommended by my fellow diner who lives locally, it lived up to expectations. Loved the presentation of our entrees - prawns and spring rolls served in individual shot glasses with the requisite sauce - that's the innovative part. Curry puff pastry was lovely and light and they were not at all heavy/oily. We then had chicken and basil stir fry which was full of flavour, and the massaman curry; the large chunks of beef were braised to perfection, very tender without being stringy or dry. Didn't have room for dessert but will be back and the sticky black rice is in my sights for next time. Good service as well and they did a decent coffee to complete a very enjoyable meal.

Still great...... Second time here now and I felt like I had to head back there as I had such a great experience last time.
Had the soup to start and it was sensational - having just returned from a trip to Thailand, this is better! The quality of the dishes are amazing. The only thing that stops me going back regularly is that it's a little pricey for a mid week Thai meal, compared to some others in the area. Really friendly service too :)

-----15 Mar, 2013-----

Will return. Had been keen to try here for a while after noticing it was busy every single night. Finally enjoyed a great night out here. The service was very friendly, but discreet. The presentation of the dishes, particularly the coconut prawns was impressive. I ordered the Red Chicken Curry for a main, but it was probably the hottest red curry I've ever had. If you don't like too hot, be sure to let them know! Otherwise, looking forward to trying some more dishes from there.

Great Food!. Wasn't expecting it to be so busy on a Monday night, but the place was packed. After tasting the food, I'm not at all surprised. A big party of us chose one of the banquets, and the huge array of dishes was fabulous. Starting with three different entrees - prawn cakes, spring rolls, money bags, with lovely sauces accompanying each. Presentation was quirky and attractive. Of the mains, the beef Massaman was so tender and tasty, and the spicy lamb and pork dishes were very good too. Dessert was a small sample of fritter, with icecream, but by them we were so full that it was just right to finish off with. Easy to see why this place is popular!

Clearly the best restaurant in Malvern East. As a local resident of Malvern East, I strongly recommend anyone looking for great dining experience to try Ped's cafe. I'd say this restaurant has it all - great menu, awesome food and excellent service. You must try soft shell crab - trust me, you won't be disappointed!
Rosie
Lovely service and great food!. We arrived without a booking on a busy night and the owner went out of her way to accomodate us. The food was absolutely delicious especially the beef salad. Tasty fresh flavours and great service. Will return!

Great food and service I s.... Great food and service
I strongly recommend this place
You should make a reservation before going there because it's so busy restaurant
Julianna
Bad take-away. Felt like trying something different from the usual take-out one night with the boyfriend's family. Chose this place because of the positive reviews, the duck on the logo and because it always looks full for dinner.
It was mediocre, expensive and had smaller portions compared to other local Asian places.
Chicken Satay was average, definitely not the best any of us have had and lacking in the sauce department. Golden Calamari was gross. The calamari was gummy, greasy and tasted of old oil. None of us liked the sauce, but that may be just a preference thing- it was sickeningly sweet and oily. Thai Style Char Grilled Pork was nice, the best dish. Traditional Char Grilled Marinated Chicken was bland, with many more vegetables than chicken.
Will not return.
Ms Kerry
Delicious food. Try the signature dish. Noisy, cosy place. Glad we booked as even though its a Sunday night it was full. Can't wait to go there again.
Asian Foodie
Best thai food in this area. Shame it's a small space which gets very noisy. Try the flash fried fish or the pad thai noodles. Great presentation.

Best thai around. One of the best Thai experiences I've had in a long while. homemade coconut ice-cream with its addictive pieces of fresh coconut leaves a pleasant surprise on your pallet.beef massaman is a must try. generous portions of braised beef in a mild coconut and cashew sauce. everything we ate was in generous portions, prepared and displayed with lots of TLC. would definitely go back despite the long drive!

Great food. We have followed Ped to Ped Kafe from Thai Nari and it was great to see that the food was as fantastic as we expected.
Can't wait for you to open a bigger place and give up this "two seatings" thing you have going. We can't wait to eat a lesiurely early start dinner instead of rushing through dinner.

A LOCAL GEM. Having heard on the local East Malvern grapevine, the Ped's was a great new place in town, my partner and I gave it a go one week night.

Absolutely superb green curry (chicken) presentation great. Followed by Tempura fish with 3 flavour sauce - magic sauce even for someone that does not like a lot of chilli.

Service 10 out of 10 and we will definitely be back.

Be sure to book otherwise you may miss out and an absolutely delicious Thai meal

Have had breakfast here quite a few times & everything is always so great! service, environment, food.. perfect! highly recommended!!

Great Thai. Have tried this place a few times now - only for takeaway so far, but would love to take a group of people and sample a few more dishes.

The panang curry was brilliant, curry puffs very tasty and home made, chicken satay very juicy. Pad Thai was exceptional.

I'll definitely be going back!
The Happy Broker
Simply fantastic. Great food and presentation - excellent service. Is now our favorite Thai place in Melbourne :)

This place is now my favorite Thai Restaurant in Melbourne! I recommend the Mixed Entree as a starter. Great Presentation! Service Excellent. I'll be back again for sure...

Went for dinner for the Thai food. Amazing food, great presentation and very friendly and helpful staff. Fantastic place, no wonder it is always full at night :)
Nadear
Yummy food, great service!. Best Pad Thai I've had so far! and the to-die-for beef Massaman! very lovely and friendly staff as well! I try to avoid dining in over the weekend tho cus it gets really, really busy over the weekend! must book ahead. I'd rather prefer dining in during weekdays. highly recommend nevertheless!
Fran Mcglinchey
Good service but the food didn't wow.

Great Value. Went there for lunch with a voucher. Although most lunch/brunch items are not Thai there are some and we figured that as it was a Thai Restaurant in the evenings and was staffed by Thais we might as well try the Thai items. We had Thai Fish Cakes with a salad and Seafood with Basil and rice. The food was tasty and fresh and was excellent value. We would certainly come here again as it is not far from home. The nice fresh flavours stayed in our mouth for some time.
I notice a couple of bad reviews written by people who have only written i review and mention other Thai restaurants in the area. I sometimes wonder if these reviewers who write only i review and use this to shitcan a restaurant are not putup jobs by rival restaurants. I think that the 91% like it vote is what really counts and our experience certainly bore this out.
And the coffeee was great as well.

Avoid at all costs. We ordered take away and it spoiled our evening. Food was greasy, basically inedible and generally left me feeling awful. So disappointing as we were anticipating a great meal.

The Thai down the road in Carnegie is way better and cheaper!
Vanessa
The worst food I have had in a very long time. Bland ,oily tempura veg, blobs of awful tasting deep fried chicken that's was supposed to be mango and Ginger, and pad Thai that was a clump of noodles that tasted like the bottom of an ocean. Called to complain and they told me to try a different Thai restaurant in area!! Would NOT recommend, though my dogs might as they ate basically all of it.
GlenIrisMum
Just ok. Ok food but lovely service. Not much competition in the area so thats why I think this is so popular. Would be nice if it was spicier - we asked for this but food still quite bland.
Christian
Thai+. A bit pricier than your normal Thai takeaway but much nicer - definitely worth it!
Chris
Wow. Some of the best Thai food I have ever had in Melbourne. Seriously. The owner is kind of annoying and gave us a mid-meal lecture on how we were eating the food incorrectly, but was worth it none the less. 9 thumbs up!
Bill D
GREAT EAST MEETS WEST. Went to breakfast here. They are western food by day and Thai by night.
The breakfast was sensational, the decoration and presentation a bit "over the Top".
Great fresh ingredients and wonderful range.

That led us to try evening Thai food.
Awesome presentation and decoration. The sort you would find in 5 star city restaurants. The coconut prawns and the calimari were sensational.
This suburban restaurant would be outstanding in southgate or port melbourne, but in the suburbs..really a treat.
Certainly be going back.
Can be noisy as it is packed most nights.

Go just for the massman curry!. Busy local thai place that we really like. As mentioned the masman curry is awesome as is the pad thai. The coconut prawns are tasty as well. Have had a crumbed deep fried chicken dish that was too dry and steamed fish was great the first time but too much garlic the next but we go there just for the curry and pad thai pretty much. Had lunch there and enjoyed the chicken grilled on ciabbata, twice it was great, third time not so good and the mixed dips for lunch are not good value for money. But give it a go and be sure to book as it can get busy most nights.
Emmylouly
Had a very overdone schnitzel that was very average. wouldnt bother again
Brizio
Great service and amazing food. Would go there again. Enjoyed the experience.

Beautiful food, fast and friendly service. What a great new restaurant! So lucky that it's just around the corner from my place.

Beautiful fresh food. Absolutely love it.

Pedā€™s pursues an interesting strategy ā€“ ā€œWestern by Day ā€“ Thai by Nightā€. We wandered along to Pedā€™s for breakfast, so we were Western. Apparently theyā€™re a very good Thai restaurant, and theyā€™re definitely a good breakfast cafĆ©.
