Review The Green Goose - Malvern

Jes Proffitt
Lovely staff, great outdoor seating, very accommodating to me and my pup. Had an iced coffee, the taste was more on the acidic side. I'm keen to try one of their many smoothie options next time.

The Green Goose coffee is excellent and the food and drinks menu is extensive with lots of delicious and healthy options to choose from and it's all prepared at the cafe itself. As well as both small and large table settings inside, there is optional seating out front and in the cosy and relaxing rear courtyard area. Live music on a Friday night is also a plus. To top things off, the staff is super friendly and provides great service.

Delicious food! This is the eggs benedict with bacon and apple. Highly recommend. Egg cooked perfectly and the Hollandaise was first class. Mum had chilli scrambled eggs with salmon and said the sourdough was great also. Cakes looked delicious in the window but we were content with our brunch for this visit. Cheers

A very nice little cafe. Smooth music in the morning. Good selection of breakfast treats. Beautiful coffee.

Great coffee, good food, excellent service. On a nice day, there is a little courtyard out the back as well.

Amazing company - that has serviced the good people of Malvern for some time now. Great to follow their online business now too - best range of more exotic products. The Green Goose for the win.

The Green Goose is absolutely fabulous! Their look and atmosphere is so homey. I made a booking for 15 people for a surprise birthday and the team at The Green Goose did absolutely everything they could to make the day run smoothly for us. The staff were immensely tentative and their level of customer service was top notch. It's great to be able to laugh with the staff. With regards to their food, there were absolutely no complaints from our end. All of us enjoyed the variety of food and we're all wishing to have my stomach space to fit everything in! The Pulled Pork Bun looked and tasted absolutely divine and their coffee is what the Melbourne coffee scene is about. The squad and myself are keen to make this our new "go-to" brunch joint. I can not thank The Green Goose's team enough for today!

Simply outstanding food and presentation. The coffee is what got me going there and everything else just lived up to the same high standard. Warm surrounds with a great host.

Was a fave with my parents.... as one of a few venues with wheelchair access. Haven’t been back for a while... Returned today to find it’s still tremendous. Staff helpful and welcoming. Menu not too busy but enough variety to allow a table to select. Coffee is great. Pastries and Cakes available and tasty.
Thought For Food
I really wanted to like this place. The service was really pleasant however I found the menu to be limited and nothing really jumped out at me. I ordered a weak almond latte and what came out was a strong coffee with normal milk which I only finished half of. As I can't eat poached or runny eggs, I asked for the dish to have a fried egg that was completely cooked through. Unfortunately it came out sunny side up and raw in the middle so I was unable to eat it. The fritters were okay, but definitely not the best I've had.

The monte carlos which are made in house were delicious though!
Jim Wibskov
Amazing service, food and coffee was perfectly made to order. Mine was a latte with an extra shot (bang on) and the other a regular latte for a not-so-often coffee drinker, who also lapped it up.

We shared a Big Goose breakfast from the specials and couldn’t fault it the slightest. Home made beans to die for, the eggs were perfectly scrambled and presented impeccably.

A lovely surprise walk-in and will definitely be back again. Thank you 👌🏼

Delicious food, good coffee, fabulous service. Highly recommend 👌
We stumbled across Green Goose by accident and could not be more pleasantly surprised. A great little find.

Great atmosphere, staff are all friendly including the owner, food is delicious & they mix up the menu which is great for variety. I come here a lot as work close by, never been disappointed.
Mat’s Munchies
Nice little cafe in the street next to Malvern Station, very locals vibe. I don’t often order zucchini fritters cos it’s not my vibe but I just felt like it today. Fresh and homemade but overall pretty standard, extra half a star for the homemade bbq sauce though, that was the best bit.

great food! had the best beef burger ever, came with a side of chips and some sauce on the side too. Was super filling and tasted great. also had a chocolate thickshake, amazing.

the outdoor area is so nice!! lots of room for the sun to come through.

the waiters were nice and friendly too, lots of smiles and they seem pretty genuine.

cant really fault this place, have just moved to malvern, so will be coming back often.
Charlotte Cooper
Food is slightly expensive, a typical hipster joint.
Good coffee but the food is average, nothing special. The portion is quite small for how much it costs.
Lindy Lang
Great environment, friendly staff, excellent food, tasty coffee = winning combination

The fancy granola was DEVINE!!!

Very lucky to have this place as a local.
Helen
Wonderful wagyu lunch burger. Great value and great taste for only $15.00 + beer. Service was also friendly and attentive. Highly recommend and will be back.
Breakfastpiggy
> Omelette with bacon, feta, onion, spinach, capsicum AND Big breakfast with smoked salmon, sautéed spinach, mushrooms, avocado, poached eggs, on toast <

Green goose is a large and welcoming café just off Glenferrie road in Malvern. They pride themselves on having very fresh ingredients and making most dishes from scratch. We were recommended to get these two dishes and we were not disappointed.

I am not one to usually order an omelette because I can make it at home, but I was pleasantly surprised with the burst of flavour and juices present. It was not plain at all and I really enjoyed trying it! Now I am more inclined to try more omelettes at cafes because they are so underrated.

A big breakfast is always a good idea after a big night out and need something to satisfy your cravings! Everything about this dish was so delicious, and there are so many flavours present. This dish just screams ‘make sure you’re hungry’ because it is huge! I love mushrooms on anything so when I see there is a generous portion, I feel like I’m in heaven. The salmon was fresh and worked well with this concept.

Overall, this place is really nice and one to try if you’re in the area.

The breakfastpiggy team

Piggies out, Oink oink 🐷🐷

Twenty minutes to get two juices on a quiet Sunday morning? Sorry not on, especially when a polite, "sorry it's taking a while" would have made everything sweet.

Nice juice that came just as was getting up to walk away. Never an excuse. Words of apology would have given a higher score.

Great coffee, awesome staff! The fritters are fantastic, and the ambience and interior fit out is clean and sophisticated. A little overpriced.

Cloudy day on a Monday morning I visited The Green Goose, it was empty of customers as I came in at about 8.20. I sat down knowing the menu beforehand thanks to Zomato. I was interested in the Zucchini Fritters and was pleased to know that ST. Ali coffee were served here also. The Zucchini Fritters was exactly like I imagined a fritters would look like and taste like. The added BBQ sauce was a pleasant surprise though I do like my rocket fresh and drizzled in oil or dressing not cooking under hot fritters but that's not the chef's fault. The overall first impression is that of a well decorated cafe and well placed for passing commuters that has a healthy range of food and well crafted coffee beans.

I think I'm in love with their Salt N Pepper Squid :) because I've been back few times for it! Squid was fresh and cooked to perfection, salad was crunchy, aioli was creamy and delicious. Yum!!!
I have also tried their Fish n Chips, quite a generous portion for lunch.

The Green Goose is a culinary representation of my Dads vintage car. Ever reliable, in fashion, and does the basics well while appealing to fancy market. Gab & Con's efforts in not only creating consistently delicious meals but also choosing the best ethical practices they can when doing so shines through their passion for good food and service. I've had so many delicious and creative brunches here with the vegetarian options always a standout in comparison to local competitors. They so seem to be holding themselves back with good menu items though as they cant remove them from the menu without causing local uproar.

This gorgeous little cafe run by a lovely husband and wife is right next to Malvern station. From fresh juices to desserts made in house, breakfast to lunch, we loved our visit to Green Goose. We had the avo and pea smash served with feta, radish and a fresh side salad (we added smoked salmon) and the "flo meets benedict" - eggs benny with hollandaise, spinach and salmon. Both dishes were tasty, flavoursome and delicious. The cakes are a must try!!

Friendly service, quiet and unrushed. Yes, you can book in a weekend! A rarity these days. Average food, "oldish" menu that needs an update. Ok coffee.
Chippie
My partner and I visited the Green Goose for the first time this morning for breakfast. Friendly and attentive service, good coffee and the best bacon and eggs we've had out in a long time. Crispy bacon (yum) and my poached eggs were just right.
Heidi
Tucked away just off glenferrie road is the green goose. They have a great glass cabinet full of treats, but I particularly enjoy the ham and cheese crossisant, my guilty pleasure. They also do a mean iced coffee!
Skye Peck
Delicious, delicious, delicious! Came here with my family on the weekend and all 5 of us ordered different meals from both the breakfast and lunch menus and nobody could fault their dish. The big breakfast was generous, chips crispy and yum and gorgeous little cakes too. And coffee that was actually hot! The staff were friendly and the atmosphere is lovely, nice music in the background and a warm cosy feel.

------------------------

A year later and yet again another wonderful experience! A+ for food, atmosphere, staff and service

Fabulous food and service, widely exceeded expectations! The zucchini fritters were delicious. We sat out in the lovely sun drenched courtyard, great for a lazy weekend lunch. Definitely recommend

Every time I visit the Green Goose, I am once again impressed by new and delicious menu items. Although the menu has changed, I have still found food I love and come back for more. The service is good and the staff are friendly. The meals are cooked to perfection and the coffee is absolutely fantastic. My personal favourite meal, is the steak sandwich. It is served on Turkish bread, with tomato, lettuce, caramelised onion, mayonnaise, cheese, beetroot relish and of course the steak. It is both filling and tasty. Definitely would recommend it and I will certainly be back again.

Definitely a hidden gem!!!

Location is fantastic, nice little nook in Malvern, close to the station (perfect for happy hour) and the food is excellent!

Menu has recently changed and couldn't have been happier.. sorry but pictures wont do it justice!

Staff 4/5
Food 4.5/5
Cocktails 4/5

Definitely recommend and will be back for lunch or brekky!

Always enjoyed a Sunday breakfast at the Green Goose. Love my freshly squeezed juice combination. I cannot complain about the quality of the meals. Very clean and friendly service.

Had an amazing breakfast here this morning, the food was well presented and tasted incredible! Coffee was great too. The girl that served us was very pleasant and friendly, will have to go back.

A bit of a slow service but the food is good. We ordered the french toast with maple syrup, the breakfast bowl with granola and fresh fruit and the zucchini fritters. The maple syrup and roasted hazelnuts that came with the french toast were amazing! Delicious acai smoothie and strong coffee as well.

We showed up just after 3:00 PM and even though the closing time was 4:00 PM, their kitchen was already closed so they could only offer a couple of dishes. It was slightly disappointing however they were very friendly and apologetic about it. We ordered the mushroom risotto and avocado smash brushetta which was actually quite good. I ordered a latte which was also pretty decent. Would probably like to check it out during peak time when we can access their full menu.
Dumb_reminders
Poor service. I would expect slow service if a restaurant was busy, but walking into the cafe and there only being 5 -10 people seated and more than 5 staff working you would think you would least be acknowledged. The waitress ignored us, didn't offer a menu, we grabbed one ourselves after she walked past us and put them on the bar. We sat for over 10 minutes whilst the owners chatted away and finally decided to walk out. This was the worst service I had experienced in a long time. At Least say hello to your customers if you are 'busy'. If you can't do that then hospitality shouldn't be your chosen industry.
Blogocado Mash
Having eaten at the Green Goose several times before we decided it was time to give this baby a review. Their menu lists their avocado mash under the category of ‘Something Different’ which gave us hope that perhaps it would deliver the ultimate AVO factor. GG describes their mash as ‘Bruschetta with smashed avocado & feta topped with cherry truss tomatoes’…DEEElicious! It arrived at our table and they definitely had their presentation down pat. The avocado was in pretty good condition and the quantity was satisfying. Whilst these were some real positives, unfortunately the feta used didn’t enhance the mash in the way that we hoped, and although the additions included some roast cherry tomatoes, the overall flavour was a smidge bland and lacked that X factor we were hoping to find. All up, whilst this mash filled us up it didn’t exactly hit the nail on the head and only scored a 6/10. Unfortunately this goose just didn’t lay the pe

Disappointing changes.. Eggs on Turkish was arguably the best bacon and eggs in Stonnington. New menu is a disappointment and the newer staff were inattentive and lacked motivation.

Superb coffee, grey service and really tasty menu choices. Will be back for sure!

Super fast service! Tasty ham & cheese croissant and good strong coffee. Only a few doors up from my piano lessons too! Definitely the new Saturday morning regular :)

Great coffee and service with a smile. Popped in today after visiting the spa a couple if doors down. Despite them getting ready to close, they made me the best coffee I had in a while and a bite to eat. Thank you green gooses

Scrambled eggs on toast. Just the way I like them!

Great baked items.. Had a delicious quiche and pastie take away heated at home. Beautiful pastie and fillng with great texture and flavor. Quiche had a beautiful pastry and well balanced filling with rich mushroom flavor. Cake slices were great too. I'm looking forward to more.

Great place! Love it.Deserves a rating in the 90's and they've got the best mocha's going around.

Delicious food but celiac's watch carefully. I ordered a BLT on gluten free bread. I can honestly say that it was the most delicious thing I have eaten in a while! Would soon have another. But the store made a grave error.
Luckily I am only intolerant to gluten so chose not to make a fuss at the time (not to mention in a rush), but I watched as the staff preparing my sandwich used the same knife, board and grill surface for a regular bread item and my sandwich. Maybe a refresher in cross contamination for staff?
But the food was yummy and I would readily return

Lovely Cafe. We have been coming here for quite some time and enjoying their food but I was particularly impressed today. My grandmother was visiting from overseas and we were out looking for some lunch at half three. Green Goose had just packed away all their sandwiches but they were more than happy to get them back out for us even though they close at 4pm. There is no way my nana could have walked much farther. Thanks guys!

What makes this place great is the friendly welcome, the smiles and the service. Sometimes in a cafe this is all you need to have a good experience. The coffee was hot and well made, the decor was very hip as well. I always go back to places that have good service and will definitely come back here.
Mr Killer
Worth it. Personally, I fing the Goose a little pricy. However I love popping in for hot chocolate or Latte on a weekend morning, the service is impeccably friendly and most menu items are superb. Well worth a visit.

What a find. What a great little place the Green Goose is. We have a lovely breakfast / brunch here and will definitely be back. Not pretentious, happy to help, good prices. More people should know about it, but I'm glad they don't because that means we will get a table

Great little spot. We made a booking for today and were running a bit late, I rang ahead and was told it was no problem at all. Turned out nothing was a problem and everything was great. With an elderly somewhat handicapped relative and two active children it was great to feel welcomed to a cafe for once. Lovely coffee, great food and at a reasonable price. We will definitely be back.
Nice King
The coffee is really quite bad . Cafe Latte was burnt and bitter . Decorum was nice though ...

Great coffee in unexpected places.... Was driving past late one afternoon and in dire need of caffeine - we've all been there !!!!! It was close to closing time and they were cleaning inside tables for the night but the guy behind the bar was super friendly, made me a take away coffee with a smile. Was really nice to know that although I probably was putting them out somewhat, there was no fuss and I was served with the same friendly attitude as the person coming in to buy meals and drinks. Oh, and my coffee was perfect.

Popped in to quickly grab a coffee, asked how long it might take as I had to catch a train in 5mins and within 40 seconds I had paid and had a delicious soy flat white in my hands. Food looked good and fresh and very decently priced, will definitely check out again!

Raw food & Long wait!. Saturday morning 9.15 and not very busy...we waited 45 mins for our brekky to arrive. My friend ordered black & white pudding and both were served raw, fridge cold. Given the long wait we ordered another coffee and I'd asked for extra hot water to top up my peppermint tea. I was shocked when I was charged an extra 50 cents for the privilege. Won't be returning anytime soon.
Mon D
A really cute, pokey little restaurant that would fit nicely in a cosy inner city alleyway. Food was promptly served. A fairly standard take on the classic 'big brekky' but still very satisfying (chorizo's were beautiful). It was surprising to note the absence of hash browns on the menu. Also, hollandaisse was a bit acidic - a pretty big problem for any cafe.

We waited over an hour for our meal last time but I am glad I gave them another chance. Definitely redeemed themselves, I'll be going back.

Service was ok. Found it very pricey for what we got.

Always good. Never fails to please, the service is great, the food fantastic :) Try the pumpkin salad it's great :)

Fabulous. Love the tapas & jazz night on Friday's, great atmosphere and great food. Efficient & friendly service and reasonable prices. Green Goose is a favourite and my go-to place for taking visitors.

We were instantly welcomed hello by all staff within eyeshot. Tick. Given water, crayons and a colouring in page…yea this place is child friendly, a hit with my 3 year old. Tick. Décor I found appealing and I'm very picky…there was an atmosphere without the buzz of people (we were the 2nd customers on a Saturday morning). Tick. They offer the Saturday paper. Tick. Ordered a latte & Citrus Waffle. Latte was a good cup of coffee. The Citrus Waffle was decent in size. I felt it measured up to the price. It wasn't fluffy like I like my waffles to be but it had loads for the taste buds. You defiantly have to like citrus to enjoy it! There was also quite a considerate amount of strawberries, blueberries & ice cream. If I didn't have my kid to finish off the berries I probably wouldn't have been able to consume the size of it.Tick. Water was refreshed when nearly empty and plates taken away at a reasonable time. Tick. After an hour the place was packed, buzzing with conversations. I enjoyed the experience, staff are friendly but not overly friendly to annoyance which ticks my box. Customer service was great. Defiantly coming back.

I just moved into the area and was introduced to the Green Goose. Lovely, non-pretentious cafe with friendly staff. My salad was delicious. I'm definitely planning on becoming a regular.

Pleasant decor, friendly staff, nice quiet courtyard for an early Saturday breakfast (I was here at 9am), plenty of spare tables...solitude! Good tea, coffee varies in strength, my mates 2nd coffee was stronger than the first. Dog barks in the background, majes fir a nice urban feel. Parking right outside. Tapas menu on a night. Meals look and taste great. Plenty of water offered, service good but not invasive. Worth a visit.

Friday night 4 November 2011. Just fabulous- tapas fantastic: pork belly to die for, best aricini balls ever. Ambience fabulous, staff and jazz band wonderful- all excellent, as agreed buy 5 others (who are quite critical/discerning) in our party. Will be regular returning customers. Highly recommend
Candy Floss
Little gem. Good coffee. Had lunch here once (rocket & goats cheese salad) which was outstanding. Staff always helpful and friendly.
Worth a visit for lunch or coffee.

Friday night surprise. Out for a walk with our little one on a Barmy spring evening we weren't expecting to discover live music, a tasty wine list at happy hour prices and a delicious selection of tapas. Special praise goes to the octopus and home made dips. They were also very child friendly, clearing a path through the tables to seat us in the garden. Nice people and an all-round unexpectedly good experience. We will be back.

A shame. We had previously viewed the menu, seen the above average reviews and lived close by. A recipe for a decent breakfast you would think - you would think wrong :( Omelette with goats cheese - would it kill you to season and add some herbs. It was dry and dull. The cheese was a token sprinkle barely visible. Suffice to say it wasn't finished. The French toast with bacon - bacon was barely cooked and batter had no flavour. Service was average, we had to hunt down water twice even after asking. Coffee ok. It was fathers day, but that shouldn't mean our meals take 40mins to arrive when we were told 15-20. Will not be returning - pity as we always like to support local small business.

My favorite cafe in Melbourne!!!. Love the food, love the place, love the people!
Dinner was sensational!!!
Had a great night.
Looking forward for next visit.

I love going in for my on-the-way-to-work coffee, it's delicious. They also do great gluten free muffins. The couple who own it are great, lovely people and excellent service. They've just started doing happy hour too! $5 beer & wine, I will have to take some friends.
Julieh
We had a fabulous breakfast at Green Goose - generous portions and beautiful Atlantic eggs ! Friendly service, great decor and warm atmosphere! We will definitely be back!

Fruit & lemon tarts. All made in house by our chef : fruit tart with custard & assorted fruit of the day, lemon tart filled with home made lemon curd - these are all based in a lovely round oven baked pastry shell

This place is special. Great coffee, excellent food, nice atmosphere and owners that know you by name. It's great for a take away and even better if you have the time to sit down with friends. Big thumbs up. My pics: BLT Big Brekky Coffee

Very good coffee. I am quite surprised by the negative reviews.

I have been to Green Goose for coffee about five times but so far I haven't had the food.

The coffee is always excellent. The staff I have found to be exceptionally friendly, opening the door when they saw me struggling with a pram.

If you like a side of 'owners kids crawling all over the place & touching your food' this is the best place I can think of. Seriously underwhelming, I have had better schnitzels from vans on the side of the road at 4am. Breakfast was a big meh as well. Big let down.

WE REALLY LIKE GREEN GOOSE!. We are two neighbours, living in the same street, and having a particularly longstanding friendship as well as being significantly involved on the same legal projects together. One of us visited "Green Goose" on Tuesday 14 December after reading a favourable review in a local paper. First impression of Green Goose was positive and enjoyable. Loved the atmosphere and the friendliness and willingness to please from the proprietors. Also loved the coffee! Went back a second time to take neighbourhood friend and was favourably impressed. All in all, we have returned three times in the same week. They will have to close down to keep us out!
We highly recommend Green Goose in Station Street, Malvern. The place is intimate, welcoming, full of healthy food and luxury ( delicious cakes and slices and croissants) and the proprietors are simply lovely and flexible and accommodating.
They told us today (Friday 17.12.10) that they intend to open nights in the New Year.
In the meantime, we will be back, possibly tomorrow. We will certainly support them and recommend them from this week onwards.
Friedlatte
This place had relatively good ratings so thought I'd give it a go. Got the pumpkin waffle dish and was less than impressed. Meant to be served w poached eggs and spinach according to the menu, comes out with a single egg sitting on a mountain of over-salted spinach and on the bottom one small, soft, mildly-pumpkin tasting excuse for a waffle rather than what should've been two crunchy, hot, flavoursome pillows of pumpkin. Upon asking the waiter where my second poached egg was, as stated on the menu, he went to check the menu himself, speak to the chef, then return to tell me that the menu had a typo and that it's normally served with one egg. Would it have broke the budget to offer another egg to please a customer? Don't know why he let a 30cent caged-egg lose business and score him a bad review. In fairness, coffee was good, but customer satisfaction embittered by the taste of a single smushy waffle.
I Eat Therefore I Am
When breakfast king Adrian contacted me about trying out a new cafe, how could I resist. With his extensive research on cafes, he would be able to tell me whether the food was good or not. It was excellent to catch up with Adrian and Chris over a very relaxed brunch. I was surprised to find Green Goose near the Princes Highway end just off Glenferrie Road. I didn't really think there was a cafe culture there, but it was quite full so I guess if you build it, they will come. Adrian, Chris, Ling and I were seated at a very comfortable booth table towards the back of the restaurant. We weren't sure if it would rain so didn't sit outside in the outdoor area but on a sunnier day, I'd definitely eat outside as I find the inside space a bit dark for my liking. The cafe is a long narrow space and had a slightly crowded feel, which I don't particularly like during lunch as I like it light and breezy. However, the same long and narrow space used at Izakaya Den used for dinner is very much to my
