Best soy chai latte and friendly service! Delicious generous serving of food and has a nice courtyard area out the back. Been here many times and love it! Thank you, Winnie and Joe!

They were very nice and friendly. Quick service and a very attentive staff. Loved our lunches and the cosy atmosphere inside the cafe. Great coffee.

Beautiful little cafe with a delicious range of meals! Hope you like eggs for breakfast though, because they're in just about everything! The burger is so good! 😎

I can't speak highly enough of this cafe. My local everyday coffee fix. Winnie and Joe work so hard to make the perfect coffee and are very customer focused. Lovely to chat to, lovely environment, I can't wait till we can get back to normal to enjoy a relaxing weekend brunch again. Please support this lovely family owned business

Very friendly staff, food was good. Service was prompt. I'll be back.

Good coffee but the Shakshuka was awful with tasteless potatoes and overcooked bocconcini that was like eating plastic!! Not going back to eat but you will certainly get my occasional take away coffee order..

Lovely!

Rude, slow, and weren't fresh, coffee was burnt. Very very unhappy

Great coffee, great food, great latte art, great people...we'll be back! :)

Friendly service. Didn’t quite hit the mark completely but willing to give it another go...strong chai latte was the highlight!
Wagyu beef burger was alright, a bit too wet - perhaps a nice tomato relish would go better than the current sauce. Crunchy chips and tangy tomato sauce worked well accompanying the dish.
Gratefully nothing that the barista/head lady made another chai for the young boy who accidentally dropped his takeaway. Nice act of kindness :)

This is one of the best cafes on Malvern road. Great atmosphere: friendly, cosy and reasonably priced - none of the pretentiousness that some nearby places exhibit.

To be honest there's nothing I can fault about this cafe. I love the not so busy, community vibe, it's quiet ambience perfect for a calm brunch meal with friends and family. The staff are friendly, the coffee flavourful, the food, glorious. Will definitely come back again.

This place surprisingly did a really good big breakfast.... their honey chorizo is actually a gift from god best thing I have had for breakfast in a little while.
Will probably be back here soon.

Lovely staff and lovely coffee and food! Always smiling and do their best to accomodate always! Small courtyard out the back and a very conscientious owner who is the barista! Always a great experience here!

At Thread I was greeted w a lovely warm smile from all the staff and I ordered a strong skinny latte.

The coffee was a good temperature i.e meaning I could drink it straight away lol

W single window seats this is my kind of cafe... and the kind of cafe that yo can relax and enjoy a coffee, read the paper and chillax.

This place is definitely worth a visit if your in the area. Enjoy

Stopped here for coffee on a weekday.
Service was great - always a plus for me when the attendant flashes a big smile and welcomes you in store! Coffee was lovely, well brewed and it definitely hit the spot. We sat outdoors with our coffees, just to have a chat and we were not chased away or hassled :)

Nice atmosphere here, good breakfast/brunch menu at realistic prices. The Summer indulgence dish of egg, smoked salmon, asparagus and crushed potato kept me going for hours
Love At First Bite
Find us on instagram: loveatfirstbite_aus

This is a great local cafe. Good coffee and they have some pretty great dishes - their mexican and Egyptian eggs are particularly good!

Coffees on a cold day & smiley faces make us feel warm inside! My mocha had a beautiful creamy foamy consistency (no burnt or thin milk) & whilst not too strong with coffee, I could barely taste any chocolate & needed sugar. Shame but I really can't judge a place by its mocha, as it's not an easy art!

Short macc OK. Give it 3/5.

Service immediate. Thank you love that!

Very friendly staff, had pan fried fish, quality of ingredients were good and price were not bad at all.
Crisp of sweet potatoes were great and light to eat as well.
Only thing to add more freshly made vegetable options will attract more people who wants light meal.
Overall good option to have artistic lunch in nearby area.
Shanaka Eats
I have come here a few times for their coffee as it's quite decent. Today I decided to try their breakfast. I was not feeling too hungry so avoided my habitual order of eggs benedict. Instead I ordered the Mexican crunchy eggs but without the herb salad(yes I hate herbs 😬). I have to admit I was rather disappointed. Given all the hype about avocado at the moment, the avocado was a thin spread on sourdough. A very thin spread. There was plentiful honeyed chorizo which tasted ordinary. The crunchy eggs were different and worth a try. I did not finish the meal as the overall flavour was unimpressive. The menu is expansive and perhaps I should try something complete next time. I hope it'll change my opinion about this place.

Service was excellent, friendly. The food was good, especially the potato rosti and the coffee was nice. What keys them down a bit was the basics in breakfast eggs was a bit bland, there was no seasoning. Will try it again unless something catches my eye.
Simplyj
Great service, food and coffee, very accommodating of our young children. My chicken and corn soup was especially tasty and hearty in the cold weather. Would return if in the area again.

Really nice coffee. Safe brunch venue

TASTE - Pretty safe, nothing mind blowing but nothing bad either

SERVICE - Friendly

VALUE - Standard

WOULD I GO BACK - Yeah, if I'm in the area, not special enough for a trip
World In A Bite
I ordered sweet potato with salmon cake ... I find that it was very bland ... The coffee was not that good.. The service was alright .. Staffs were a bit pushy and controlling 🙄... I should have tried Neon Tiger instead!

It's always tough to pick the best cafe options in any suburban strip, especially when there's so many. The Malvern Rd/Tooringa Rd strip has a fair few options - but when it comes to breakfast, I like Thread. Franco's jewels (the Spanish eggs) are my pick. Really good flavours, cooked perfectly - just right for a cold morning to get you going. Haven't been back for a few weeks to see what the new owners have done, always an interesting time for a cafe.

Came on Sunday 18/10/15. We ordered two 'Mexican's. Avocado was spread so thin it was as if there was one tea spoon left for both of us. And was browning. Was charged a hefty $4 for a single extra piece of plain toast. You can buy a whole loaf for that amount! Deep-fried poached eggs and chorizo were great, but couldn't get past the other two problems. Living nearby, I would love if this cafe was great and i would come often. But instead, you've lost me for a long time, and as well as anyone i know.

Pick up your game.
Ian
Good coffee.
Food ok. I had the porridge. The serve was too big to finish. Quite liked the communal table ! It's a good medium size cafe !

I used to love coming to thread. I know that there was a change in management and I know they have tried hard to maintain this cafe but all that was amazing is now gone. Their usual quality barista noticeably absent.

Today I thought I would give it another go after one other poor experience. Our coffees served cold, the eggs Benedict on hash browns were barely edible, cold oily and tasteless. The food quality has lowered drastically. Which is such a shame as the happy eggs used to be amazing.

The only saving grace is the wait staff who are friendly and attentive. The management also very friendly. I feel bad for writing a review like this but for the money we paid I expected better.
Carol Young
Called in did not realise it was nearly 3pm happy to serve us meal and coffee, meals were great, bangers and mash and ricotta pancakes, great coffee. Will go again. Refreshing to get such excellent service.
CoffeeSavedMe
Been here a couple of times last september for coffees, which i thoroughly enjoyed. Decided to come back after travels. Seems like there were all new faces, a new crowded menu and that the management had a makeover, only one familiar face, this young lady who made our coffee's last time around was luckily the one to greet us, I recognised her from my previous visit, and we felt warm and welcomed, which was great. However, all of this was to change quickly.

The place looked frantic with the feel alike that of a flea market, not relaxing or enjoyable. I don't usually like to write this sort of a thing, BUT i was so highly ridiculed having brought my partner here today. Never Again. I would certainly like to commend the young lady who seated us, as she was the only one who looked attentive, under control and switched on, with a positive demeanor; we asked her for recommendations and she suggested a few, she applauded the chef's on their meal preparations, which i highly admire as a professional skill. She obviously knows the business well to have the knowledge she did-this is the type of customer service i would like to receive. We asked for a few minutes to decide on our choice of meals, but readily I ordered a Magic and my partner an Espresso, with her. This other tall girl then came and took our brekky order minutes later.

The place looked rush-rush and our coffee's took fairly long. One came out first, the other way after, which is Not Ok, but we dismissed this. This couple of Asian descent was at the coffee machine and i ought to think they were the owners, the way they were yelling at the other staff, across the floor to get jobs done. They weren't very polite, which is sad.

Now, i know my coffee's Really well, and i am sorry but what i received was not a Magic, it was merely warm coffee flavoured water-no depth in taste and my partners Espresso was cold and not pleasant as well. Absolutely terrible. I tried to approach the couple behind the counter to tell them the coffee was poorly made, BUT they seemed a little bit erratic and not very approachable.

So we let it go, but being busy is not an excuse for failed quality.

That wasn't all, we were served a wrong meal, the young lady familiar to us, brought out our meals, She was very apologetic on knowing the meal was wrong and insisted she would offer us something perhaps another meal or drink, we appreciated her gesture but told her we don't like to make a fuss so we would eat whatever it was. One could tell she felt bad for another's mistake. We waited a really long time because of all the delays. So we couldn't really have much more time to enjoy our meals. I had overheard that it was the other tall waitress who took our food orders' fault. I understand that people make mistakes but a little acknowledgement goes a long way. "Negative for service".

I am a coffee lover and usually drink maybe two or three coffees with my meal But because the first coffee was crap and "that's being polite" i couldn't fathom having another. I tried to say goodbye to the young lady but she was busy serving another table. Overall, Highly disappointed; I rate Thread 1/5. The 1 is only for the lady's service. That's the only saving grace for this place. If you like a good coffee i would NEVER recommend this place after having this horrible experience.

Came here for Lunch today with Family. Was pretty quiet for a Public Holiday. Seems that there are new owners and their regular barrister has left. Food was OK and they haven't changed their menu too much but their coffee has lost it's edge with change in Barrister. With all the options in the areas these days not sure if I'll be back too often.
Anita
Not a bad coffee place. There's quite a few coffee places along Malvern Road and Thread is probably one of the better ones.
Food was above average and coffee was great.
They have kids drawing books and toys and books to occupy my little one so that i can enjoy my lunch which is a big bonus.
Railtonwoodcockk
Best coffee in Malvern. Friendly local with great coffee and a good brekkie menu.
Sofia Levin
Egyptian Happy Eggs, poached on Noisette multigrain toast with feta, avocado, beetroot relish and hazelnut dukkah and basil stuffed mushrooms instead of the usual bacon accompaniment. It was nothing less than incredibly tasty and extremely moreish.

Recent changes have reduced its appeal. As a local to the area, breakfast at Thread was one of my Sunday morning rituals for the last few years. Unfortunately the change in ownership has brought about a significant change in how the business operates. My staples were the Mexican Crunchy Eggs, the Thread Burger, the muffins and coffees.

Specifically in the last 6 months, the consistency in quality of the food has diminished massively. The Mexican Crunchy Eggs are supposed to be poached eggs, but I find that more often than not they tend to be closer to hard boiled rather than soft poached or even firm/hard poached. The chorizo has rarely been candied as advertised, ignoring that the serving has diminished to quite literally half the serving from what it used to be.

The burger used to be of high quality and extremely tasty, now its borderline bland and unenjoyable. The muffins aren't as varied or tasty as they were in the past.

The side salads are the only thing that's remained consistent, probably because it's cheap. And that's the theme. Everything else has been clearly cut back to reduce costs, ironically with the result of turning people away.

The only thing that remains, usually, good is the coffee. They have two staff who know how to make coffee who usually are the ones making the coffee. The rest of the staff just burn it. If you do get one of the two, its genuinely enjoyable. But the inconsistency kills any enjoyment you might have.

Fantastic. Fantastic food and lovely friendly staff.
One of a kind sort of place. Would highly recommend.

Superb coffee & food with friendly service!. I visited this place recently after a recommendation from a friend, and I was very impressed!

This is under new management apparently from what I was told. It is a very busy little cafe on malvern road and I can see why! Excellent customer service from all the staff was the first thing I noticed which is sadly a rarity in many cafes today. I had their Mexican eggs which was such a tasty and unusually cool dish!

Over all I wouldn't hesitate to go back and I urge everyone to head on over and check it out! :)

Poor service, overpriced and looks a bit shabby.. Went to Thread for lunch a few weeks ago. I had coffee and a small muesli slice while I waited for my wife. Coffee was ok, but slice was ordinary. Cost $8.50 for an average coffee and a mediocre slice. Then my wife arrived and a staff member gave us a menu and then forgot about us. Finally I got the manager's attention and we ordered lunch with two more coffees. Again the coffee was reasonable, but the eggs were plain. We spent over $60 and I left feeling rather uninspired.

PLEASANT PLACE. We came here today for a brunch with friends after being denied a place at Mr. Foxx (where we will never go again). The only tabes that had were in the back courtyard. Being a mild and sunny morning this suited well. The courtyard is sheltered from the winds. All 4 of us had nice, if not brilliant, brunch. Nice coffee, friendly and sufficient service and not arrogant as are Mr. Foxx. The prices were reasonable. I had a mushroom risotto with bacon. Evelyn had the smashed avocado on toast and our friends both had scrambled eggs with mushrooms. We all enjoyed our meals and were thankful that Mr. Foxx is not interested in pleasing customers. We WILL return here.

Simply not good enough. Sat down for coffees on a quiet Saturday afternoon. Made eye contact with the barista and wait staff. 10 minutes pass, they've cleared all the empty tables and started stacking chairs but still no service. Get it together.

An old favourite that disappointed me recently. The food at Thread is delicious. Having been at least half a dozen times for their happy eggs I was disappointed the last couple of times I went - and we drove quite a way to get there. The serve of bacon was tiny. It's been becoming smaller each time I've ordered this dish over the last year - are they cost cutting? I have been thinking about ordering an extra side of bacon but shouldn't I receive a decent amount of bacon with my order if it is already included? And the very last time I went the poached eggs were underdone - the whites were runny. Hoping Thread can redeem themselves.
Phil H
Good coffee, if you can be bothered waiting for it. Thread gets let down by the service, which varies from adequate to non-existent. Today was at the latter end. To be ignored by two waiting staff and a barista in a virtually empty cafe is simply unforgivable. Even when the penny seemed to drop and my order was eventually taken, the eventual supply of coffee and a muffin didn't extend to the provision of either a knife or a napkin. The coffee here is good, but becomes quite irrelevant when you are treated so poorly.
Elias
Brilliant! Stumbled upon this place when I was famished. Fastest food arrival ever, not exy, generous portions, delicious!! Ohh, find!
TL
Great Brekkie and lunch. Come here frequently.

The mexican crunchy eggs are amazing. Never get tired of them.

Would highly recommend.
FoodieFace
Nice atmosphere, lovely food, reasonable prices and friendly service. Only dislike- I personally prefer to be served on a plate rather than a wooden board which I don't feel are as hygienic...
Brunchisbest
Fantastic place for breakfast, brunch lunch or coffee and cake! Great menu items include the Egyptian happy eggs (although they are a bit rich so more of a brunch/lunch thing rather than early in the morning) and the smoked salmon eggs benedict. Also you can't go past without trying the freshly squeezed orange juice- simply devine! If its summertime/warm enough definitely sit out the back in the courtyard. Can't praise enough.
John Munden
Mexican Crunchy Eggs were sublime. A friend had these on my last visit and described it as the best breakfast he had ever had. Big statement to make so I had to return and try for my self and I was overwhelmed! They are magnificent. The eggs were beautiful and runny and the chorizo cooked to perfection. The texture, the flavours and the ambiance of the venue all combined to a superb breakfast experience.
Shannon C
Always good. A reliable local for when I feel like spending a bit more on brunch. French toast and the 'summer sensation' (i think it's called - the eggs, potato and salmon) are brilliant.

I walked in to the cafe asked a waitress for a cappuccino, as I sat down I realised they did single origin.I called the waitress straight away and asked to change it to a single origin coffee. She was very nice and approached the 'barista' who replied smartly ' I've already made it'. Considering I was sitting in front of him I could see it was not made as he was pouring a latte for the man beside me. He may have had a shot ready in a cup but it wasn't made already. He should have replied ' sure no problem'. I found him lazy and inhospitable. I wonder if his manager was standing beside him would he have given the same answer? Being in the Industry myself this is not he way to treat a customer. A friend recommended this place to me but it's a shame as I will not be returning because of the 'barista' and plus the fact that he isn't a very experienced 'barista' as he made a terrible cappuccino it was more of a flat white.

-----05 May, 2013-----

Bad service from barista. I walked in and walked by a waitress and order a cappuccino as I sat down I notice they did single origin to which I called the waitress straight away and asked her to make it a single origin. She was very nice and approached the 'barista' who smartly Said ' I already made it' as I was sitting in front of him I could see he had not made it as he started to pour a latte for the person near me. Maybe he had a shot pulled but I felt it was rude and inhospitable and his answer should have been 'sure no problem'. Also the coffee was more like a flat white not a cappuccino. Being in the industry myself this is no way to treat a customer. I'm sure if his manager was around this would not have been his answer. It's a shame as it was my first time there and I visited on a recommendation. I have no interest in returning.
Ety
Food delicious .. We had the Egyptian eggs and the Mexican egg dish ... Fresh tasty n beautifully presented .. Coffee ok but cld b better .. Service a bit lacking but not bad Enuf to stop us going back .. Overall very happy n recom this place
Melissa
A great local!. Great coffee, delicious food and service with a smile!
Today was my third time at Thread Cafe> have had one breakfast and two lunches and all have been really good. The coffee, I have to say is probably the best I've had anywhere!
Staff are very friendly which leaves a good impression. I like trying new places but when you find a place that ticks all boxes it's hard to move on.
Renee Sturtevant
I would have to say worst service on Malvern Rd. As a local I gave Thread a second chance after a less than average first experience. Once again I was ignored and this time I left to get my coffee and breakfast elsewhere. It's actually a really nice spot and fit out and it's just a pity service lets you down every time.
Nelly Samson
Really nice coffee. I love this little gem out in the Malvern/Armadale area. Guys serving are really nice. Breakfast is pretty good - I'd change the sourdough bread as not great which is a shame as the rest is fab. Great atmosphere with a lot of families, people stopping by after their gym sessions etc. Coffee is consistently delicious (unless you love strong coffee, then you must ask for a double shot). Best coffee out that way believe me... I know as I've tried them all and am one of those annoying coffee fanatics!
Jaygee
The coffee's always good and the staff are happy campers
Amina
Great coffee and the food is always delicious, the Mexican eggs is honestly my favourite breakfast of all time absolutely fantastic, could eat it everyday.
Nadine Fogale
Great Mexican eggs, good coffee, nice courtyard at the rear.
Katie
Absolutely amazing cafe; BEST EVER coffee and the raspberry/white choc muffins are a must. These guys do a super mean breakfast-- highly recommend Egyptian Happy Eggs for something a bit different but the classic eggs & bacon will definitely not disappoint. Service is A+++ too.
Grace
Amazing coffee.. every time.. breakfast is great also.. a touch pricey, but better food and coffee than some other cafe's in the area.
Claire
Great coffee & pretty good value food. Wait staff are young & perhaps a little inexperienced but friendly enough.
Shepster
Great coffee and especially love the breakfasts here...enjoy being able to spread out and read the paper on the benches or common table too, even when it's busy
Sarah Acton
I am not particularly fond of this cafe. The staff are rather slow and too casual to be taken seriously. The prices are quite high, too high considering portion sizes. The coffee here is often like-warm. Perhaps the owners should look into running a day care centre to increase their profit margin.
Josh
I have been coming to thread almost everyday for the past few months and i am absolutelty in love with everything about this incredible little cafe! I was first drawn in by my friends non stop talk of "the best coffee around". Obviously this is a big call and i was hesitant at first, but let me tell you, the coffee is literally TO DIE FOR!!!

But it's not just the amazing coffee that keeps me coming back, it's the whole vibe. This place has a very relaxed feel to it and the staff are always super attentive and friendly. I am always greeted by warm smiles and quick service. You MUST try the Mexican crunchy eggs... The best breakfast I've probably ever had. Just.... SO Yum!

Really everything about this place is perfect! I don't know what else to say except please try it out and see for yourself!! Great cafes are hard to find these days, But thread is really a little gem! I'LL BE BACK!!!
Kimberly Chen
I love the food at thread but having the wait almost and hour for food on my last few visits have been a real turn off. Like other commenters have pointed out, there appears to a real lack of organisation, which is a shame.
JONNO P
STUNNING FOOD & COFFEE. My 1st visit to Thread cafe was a huge success. I ordered the mexican eggs with a side of bacon and my wife ordered franco's jewels (a spanish eggs type dish). It was the best breakfast we have had in Melbourne. My son ordered a fruit salad followed by a breakfast burrito and a freshly squeezed orange juice and they were a big hit too. Excellent coffees with a swan on them! rounded out a terrific meal. The service was attentive and friendly. We will definately be back.
Andrew McInerney
Overrated. Food ok but expensive. Had to wait an hour for 2 meals and some toast with Vegemite. Asked 3 times for status and it was a bloody long time for the 5 minute promise. First and last time here.
A
Unfortunately thread has become unorganised and unapologetic... Not again
David K
Simply too expensive for what it is. I've been to Thread quite a few times since its opening. The menu is quite good - a little bit inventive with something to please everyone. However, it is disproportionately expensive. This is the case for drinks as well. For example, a coffee and milkshake costs $10. I know it's Malvern, but really? $7 for a milkshake is too much.
The service is usually consistent. Although better options are close by.
TK
Always good food, always slow service. We have been to Thread Cafe a number of times, for both breakfast and dinner, as it is just a short walk down the road from us.
The menu is extensive and the food always good. The main downside for us however is the terribly long wait time for meals. The initial service is efficient enough with our orders being taken in good time, but from here who knows what happens in the kitchen, as we have had to wait for up to 40min for our meals to then arrive. Just recently we decided to stop in at 2:30pm for a 'quick' bite to eat. The place was very quiet and we were the only ones in there that seemed to be waiting on food (everyone else was having coffee & cakes), yet we were still left waiting for over 30mins for a burger and a wrap (which was from the display cabinet!). This is not good enough and has unfortunately put us off returning.
Rato
Overpriced for lunch options & the chicken piadini that I had was bland & severely in need of some sauce / mayo / relish.... The beetroot salad with walnuts & feta was nice with a Moroccan - type seasoning. In hindsight I wish I had just ordered a larger serve of that. Waitress forgot drink orders but was rectified quickly. This place just lacks personality & is too expensive to just "pop in" for lunch...
George M
WOW - a must visit cafe!. I never write reviews but this cafe has inspired me. Thread cafe definately serves the best coffee in Melbourne and the best coffee I have ever had. I sat in the sunny courtyard and followed my Panama short mac with a glass of white and the "3 P's risotto" - with peas, pancetta and pecorino and garlic bread. The aroma was sensational and the taste even better. Add to this the fantastic service and atmosphere and you have a winner cafe... I am now a regular and intend to try the cold drip coffee when the weather finally heats up.
Luke Connell
Exceedingly small hot chocolate for the price. Very small serve of Mediterranean vegetable soup also in comparison to the price. Hard toast served with soup.
Ryand7
Outstanding. I popped in for coffee on my way to work on thursday. I had my usual cappuccino, and have to say it was undoubtedly the nicest coffee I have had the pleasure of tasting since I moved to Melbourne. Feeling so enthusiastic about the place, I wanted to go back to try the food in the weekend with my boyfriend. I had the Eyptian eggs, and was equally thrilled with the food, really tasty good food that would brighten anybody's day. Lovely, friendly staff, and I for certain will sure to be back again ( on a very regular basis!)
Emilia Johari
Nice but.... Had to ask waiter 3 times before i could get WATER. Ordered The Fez, Moroccan lamb with cous cous with pomegranate seeds and molasses. It came COLD and undercooked. quite sad, i was expecting more venm after reading so many bad reviews to give them a chance. But the staff were friendly.
Mary
Was on my way to work, ugh, decided to pop in for a coffee. BEST coffee I've ever had and the waiter who serviced me was so sweet :) can't wait to come back and try one of the raspberry white chocolate muffin, looks so yummy. Great way to start the morning.
Jake
Yay for thread! Love this place, can't get enough. Best coffee every time :) great way to start a busy day.
Allan
Nice Cafe in a cafe strewn precinct.r. This Cafe has a lot going for it. The Coffee and food were very good. I eat plain and my poached eggs and bacon was as good as any. The other items on the menu looked good and the value was Ok. I will go again..
SusieQ
Visited this cafe on Mothers day. We were a group of 12. The service was very good considering it was a very busy morning. We were promptly seated and orders for coffee were taken The coffee was served quickly and was excellent. The Egyptian Eggs were wonderful. All our group loved the meal and we will definitely return here. The vanilla slice in the display cabinet looked fantastic. A great little local.
Imogen
COFFEE ADDICT IN LOVE!. Wow - the avo/fet smash is incredible and the silky smooth coffee to die for!!
what a find - I happened upon it by chance on my way to a friend's house and then I realized of course this was the new Malvern hang out my friends had all been raving about with THE BEST COFFEE IN MELBOURNE!!

and food so imaginative and yummy (pomegranate molasses - YUM).

I am now a regular and couldn't stop myself reviewing this when I never review at all -

THREAD WELL DONE - YOU ARE AMAZING!!!!
Tardar Sauce
Waiting 20mins for 2 take away coffees when it is not busy, is an ABSOLUTE JOKE!!!! By far the worst cafe I have been to in Melbourne. I rarely give out poor reviews, this one is well deserved. Keep up the slow service & you'll soon be out of business.
Nancia
Inconsistent and slow service!. Was a huge fan of thread until recently when I sat down on benches on side and waited and waited! If it wasn't for the barista telling the owner that I had been waiting, would have walked out. Food is hit and miss. What annoyed me on my last visit was the cafe had transformed into a day care, crèche for mothers who clearly want a coffee, meal! Other patrons should not have to be subjected to your kids fighting and squealing over the toys. Further when leaving to pay, all the toys books strewn over the floor, nearly broke my neck not to mention stepped on a little one! Very poor and potential hazard not only for patrons but if the wait staff have hot drinks etc! Give that some consideration re the toy location!
Gigi
Has potential. Coffee here was good although would have preferred it to be a little stronger. Service was friendly, very relaxed, needs a bit more polish as a few mistakes made. Only had toast but it was good - great multigrain bread!
Cg
Good local. Im glad i tried this place out. bustling on a sunday morning but no line :)
had the breakfast bruschetta - it was divine. partner had the big brekky, plenty of avocado and beetroot relish which i added to my bruschetta, yummo.
i know the staff were busy but a jug of water on the table isnt too much to ask? pet peeve.
is a bit on the pricey end.. not much for less than $15 in the brekky menu.
enjoyed and will recommend. nice use of space.
Evie
LOVE. From breakfast muesli to beetroot salad (and hangover coffee and muffins) I can't find one thing wrong with this cafe. Even my kitten loves their milk. Love love love love love

I came here for brunch with a friend of mine this morning. We sat in the court yard and had a really great time. She had the burcher museli and I had the roman holiday penne. All ingredients from the fruit to the vegetables were fresh and delicious. The staff were really pleasant and attentive - ill definitely be back. Thanks for a great brunch Thread.
Winy Yiska
Nice place, delicious breakfast meals and pastries, and great coffee too! We go there every sunday morning.

Nice weekend atmosphere and good service but despite the exciting sounding menu, the food was bland and unseasoned. Pretty sure the beetroot relish was just the standard shredded from a can.

Egyptian Happy Eggs. When I first read this on the menu I thought it sounded way too adventurous as far as flavours for breakfast... beetroot relish? really??.... but I ordered it all the same, just telling myself "I just wont eat the relish!" Once the meal was put in front of me not only did the size of it impress me for a breakfast, but the smell coming from the plate was intoxicating!! Because I had been so pleasantly suprised by the look of this festive looking plate I decided to try a little bit of everything on my fork at once (quite a task as there is so much on the plate variety wise) and BANG, it was like party had started in my mouth!!! The blend of the smokey bacon with the sweetness of the relish mixing with the almost bitter taste of the feta and the freshness of the avacado, all just made the basic poached egg on wholemeal toast into something that is almost what I call ORGASMIC!! I find myself travelling the 40mins there every weekend now just so I can have my 'When Harry met Sally' moment in this retro little Cafe!!!!!

Consistently great coffee and food. Menu is interesting (in a good way). Staff are always attentive and quick. Owner is always there making sure the place runs quickly and smoothly.

Wonderful coffee and food. I frequently visit this cafe and am impressed by the consistently high standard of coffee served. The food options are also great, everything is fresh and delicious. My only gripe is the inconsistent customer service, in particular on weekends when there appear to be younger and less professional wait staff. Sometimes I'm served water with my coffee - sometimes I'm not. Sometimes I'm served promptly, sometimes I wait for ages and end up ordering coffee at the counter.

I love it! I take my 3 and 4 year old every week. They are welcomed by name and the waiter remembers or order week to week. Most child friendly cafe I have ever been in. Egyptian eggs are a must!

It's definitely not close to being the 'best' coffee in Melbourne but it is still pretty good. Batista doesn't smile but heck, I'm here for takeaway coffee at 7.30 in the morning and I'm not up for smiling either.

I know this is a big call but I would say Thread has the best coffee in Melbourne. It really is that good! Also really nice staff relaxed and friendly. There is a courtyard which is great. I am addicted to their avocado & fetta smash for breakfast! Children friendly but equally good to go by yourself and read the papers!

Kay Method. Just dropped past Sunday morning for a take away coffee. It was superb! We are so blessed in this city to have so many awesome venues (and more importantly, dedicated staff) that really care about the product they put out there. Am only sorry I couldn't stop for brekky. Will return soon :)

Absolutely Brilliant. There's really not much I can say about Thread other than Wow!

I've been back at least 5 different times and the coffee has been consistently divine (which I must say is rare these days), the food is superb and the staff are always friendly and attentive.

What else can you ask for? Thread is a must try, you wont be disappointed!

I went on Saturday morning. The place was full but still felt warm and cosy. Staff were so friendly and welcoming. The coffee was outstanding Try the single origin of the day. The barista advised me to try a Costa Rican short mac which was rich and sweet. The poached eggs were cooked to perfection My partner had the thread burger which was the best she has ever had. My partner also ordered a cappuccino which arrived with a beautiful puppy dog on top. Every coffee I saw there had amazing latte art! But it also tasted superb. I met the owners; husband and wife and had great chat. This is a great place owned and lovingly run by two barristers turned baristas

Fantastic find. Thread has awesome coffee, great food and such a welcoming atmosphere.

both the blend and the single origin were professionally and superbly made - no wonder people are talking about ithis place.

the menu is imaginative and full of flavour, fresh ingredients and creativity. from the avo/feta smash and warm cajun chicken salad to the free range green's eggs poached to perfection .

Four chances. I have been into Thread 4 Times. All 4 times The Service has been poor and un friendly. No smile, on all 4 visits i waited atleast 10 minutes for one coffee, no sorry or thank you. I order my coffee with skinny milk as the full cream upsets my stomach 3 out of the 4 times my coffee has been made with full cream milk.

Service needs a makeover. Slow, got our order wrong, didn't acknowledge it - enough mistakes already, get it right please people!

Almost there.. Threads has a lot going for it. Good location, in "starved for a good place" part of Malvern. But, not quite there yet. Food is plain, service needs more professionalism and the coffee needs to be hotter and more speed in reaching its recipient. Based on 3 visits.
