Review Pizza Religion - Malvern

If you’re a fan of mushrooms this is your place! The toppings and flavours were good, but the flavour of the pizza lost by the excessive toppings.

We had a group booking, the service and pizzas were excellent. The pizzas are not the standards and therefore are a bit more expensive but well worth it. They also have some local beers on the menu. They pump out a lot of take away.

Dined with family for a birthday dinner. I had the pizza special - Moroccan lamb with baba ghanoush, cherry tomatoes, pomegranate, rocket, pine nuts & cumin spiced yoghurt. It was so delicious. Others shared a few pizzas & they all enjoyed them also. Will definitely return to try out other pizza flavours.

Love the service! We were rushing to an event, and had time crunch. They prepared the food, kept it warm, and we were able to make it in time for the event!

Excellent service with absolutely beautiful deco and an exciting menu! The cocktails are slightly sweeter than expected, in a small glass without the lovely garnish / setting which was a slight disappointment. The chicken pizza had lots of coriander (chopped so finely and even the dressing) which is not mentioned in the menu (I should've checked, but ingredients/ herbs being a dominated component should've been mentioned in the description) gave my body a shock - yummy, but it makes people with low blood pressure very ill and dizzy just after a small slice. Anyone with food allergies need to be aware of it and make sure you check with the staff. Excellent experience and I'm definitely going back again.

Ordered food from Deliveroo and received a text message an hour later to say that Pizza Religion Armadale cannot accept my order. If your delivery companies are constantly rude to customers and don't complete orders, maybe you need to review this. This is hugely inconvenient when small children are hungry. I stand by my 1 star rating.

Great service front of house , excellent pizza's and salads , ambience and BYO - your classic local restaurant that gets things right... have been a few times and will go back, impressed again this week.

Such a shame, great pizza hence why we keep returning but tonight when I was stabbed in the mouth by a shard of plastic that has come from my dessert there was no shock or remorse from the staff regarding incident. Normally it would be some level of concern that plastic has been found in a dish but in this instance there wasn’t. Very disappointing.

I hate this place. The pizza is nice. I like the dough. Cracked my tooth on olive pip. Happens every fucking time even though I ask you specifically no pips in the olives . Absolutely no care from person I called. Told me there's nothing u guys can do? Some have pips some don't? There's 10 olives on the pizza u can do something about it. Reply to me I'm not happy

I was so excited by the menu, we got a drink, ordered and then watched others come in after us and get their orders. No waiters came over to even check on us, finally we get the attention of one who went and checked but did not come back and tell us anything!! We got up and left as they forgot our order and made us pay for a drink!!! Customer service at its worst, food zero as we never got to eat!!

Wow what a friendly AND efficient staff! They made sure we were well attended to and even though they were busy, took time to have a polite, not forced, chat. They were especially thorough when taking our order (allergic reactions and vegetarians can be complex). The restaurant was warm and welcoming and the meals came within a reasonable time from ordering. The food was good, well presented. Very thin crust pizza with lots of different topping options. Although slightly more expensive than normal the service, the warmth (it is Melbourne in Winter) and the ambience justified it.

Used to love this pizza and have it weekly. Last experience was terrible and won't be going back. Went to pick up after the estimated 25 minute wait time and was told it would be 4 minutes. Pizza clearly wasn't even made. Was told a few more times that it was going to be only 5 minutes. No apology or acceptance of mistake. Finally ready, told that the prices had gone up in . $54 for 2 takeaway pizzas. What a joke

Maybe the wrong person cooked our pizzas but what were put in front of us were burnt to buggery! (a) BEEF CHEEK: Braised Beef Cheek, Cauliflower Puree, Caramelised Onion, Gremolata, Truffle Oil - Sadly only lumps of black completely charred pulled meat of some sort is recognisable, the rest of the ingredients were indistinguishable! Forced myself to eat a piece - the rest was inedible. (b) MUSHROOM: Roasted Mushrooms, Thyme, Talleggio, Balsamic Glaze, Caramelised Onions - Blackened and burnt mushrooms can be seen, but the rest is indistinguishable too. Again, tasteless and inedible! Such a disappointment! PS: If I am able to post pictures they will confirm my descriptions above.

Excellent service, a quiet restaurant on weeknights with lovely decor, and the gluten free pizzas are perfect. Thank you!

The pizzas were really good but staff should have said that kids eat free before 6pm . We arrived before 6 though . Otherwise the meals arrived quickly and the garlic bread was excellent .

Not much flavor at all . The mushroom pizza is so dry! Man, they just don’t give cheese on their pizzas ! Pizza Hut has Better pizza than this. Won’t reorder for sure. There is barely any cheese on the pizza ! Plus the ingredients are not as fresh. Not a pleasant experience at all ! Highly recommend not to order if u like cheese !

Friendly service, vibe was awesome, great for a group dinner. The service was also quite quick. Margherita and Prosciutto (with roasted pear) were really nice, with crisp crusts and nothing being too saucy.

Knelt at their alter for 3 reasons: it was close, I had a man I needed to impress, and I was thirsty. To be very blunt, it certainly wasn't Pizza Religion that got this man worshipping me. <br/><br/>"Martinis.... no one on the staff today is trained in making cocktails ." (a significant portion of the drinks list was cocktails). On a summer day, this is a grave sin.

Came here for a nice pizza dinner and was left disappointed. Margarita was served with cold cheese on top and lamb pizza didn’t smell very fresh. Used to be one of my favorite restaurants. Don’t think I’ll be back for a while.

Yet another pizza establishment which has gone downhill unfortunately!<br/>There are so many pizza restaurants out there and yet where are all the good ones? <br/>This place used to be better. On our recent visit the pizzas did not at all live up to their menu description, let alone expectation.<br/>Firstly we ordered Margherita and beef cheek. Well we got identical pizzas coming out of the oven, except on one they had sprinkled beef cheek and on the other tomatoes. <br/>There was zero trace of cauliflower purée on our beef cheek like the menu had promised.<br/>AND where was the fior Di latte or buffalo mozzarella on the Margherita? Instead tiny little supermarket bocconcini?! Not at all living up to expectation. Granted expectations are high 🤷🏻‍♀️.<br/>Sad to say it but not much different to what you would get from crust.<br/>2.5 stars considering staff were friendly and well presented and ambience of course very good but the food just doesn’t match the rest.

Nice spacious interior and the staff were friendly and attentive.<br/><br/>Calamari starter was great, the calamari was crunchy and fresh with the right amount of aioli.<br/><br/>The pepperoni pizza 🍕 was so good, I loved the addition of the goats cheese yum. The base was just right too. It was topped perfectly too, not stingy at all.

Possibly the worst pizza we've ever had... maybe even worse than Dominos overall? <br/>Pizza bases tasted and had the consistency of pita bread. Loaded with toppings which was great to see, it's a shame they weren't very good. <br/>Overpriced, still hungry; just disappointed. <br/>Staff were lovely though!

Really delicious pizza, flavours marry really well. Not enough cheese so I recommend adding that as an extra. Gluten Free base is very good as long.

Good pizzas i go there quite often and my kids enjoy the food as there young and fussy eaters. They have very tasty pizzas especially the lamb it just needed a bit more topping otherwise there great pizzas.

Warm and friendly staff with the best pizza in the area, the restaurant has a great vibe. My favourite pizza was the spiced chicken, the lamb salad is also delicious!

Wow! Hands down the best pizza I've had in a long time. Upon entering the restaurant, I was greeted by a friendly team who promptly showed me to my table and made me feel comfortable! The restaurant was clean and has a upmarket yet relaxed vibe about it. I would thoroughly recommend the pepperoni pizza and the calamari, both of which are reasonably priced! Overall would recommend and will be returning ASAP!

The gluten free base was rubbery, which wasn't saved by the taste. Absolutely disgusting, could barely get through one piece then threw it out.

Giardino pizza is still the best at a much cheaper price .why try to be trendy when there is no need to.<br/>If you are looking for the new trendy pizza scene and are willing to pay the price you may like this place. Pizza is good but I think a little overpriced for what it is... but I guess has to cater for the <br/> toorak Malvern folk who don't mind to splurge . We went with my hubby and father in law and 2 y old. Ordered 2 pizzas between all of us which was adequate.<br/>I don't see how anyone needs to Order anymore especially since the price for a gf pizza is $27.<br/>

I went here and the food was horrible! Too much cabbage and not enough meat! I left the restaurant hungry! This pizza place is over rated and over priced.<br/>There are better places to buy pizza.<br/>However, the place was clean and comfortable.

This place is great for a flavoursome pizza and the gf bases are the best around. I love the flavours the mushroom, pepperoni, beef cheek and garlic prawn are my faves. Calamari is delish and gf and the service has always been good.

I find most of their non-traditional pizzas too sweet. And the bases are like soggy Sao biscuits. But Pizza Religion always has a crowd, so apparently there's a market for this type of pizza

Way too much cheese. I ordered a margherita and while it looked like the most beautiful pizza, it did not taste as beautiful. The base didn't have the chewy authentic consistency I was expecting. The layer of cheese was about as thick as the base which I didn't like at all. The tomato medley was very tasty so that's good. I'm on the hunt for an amazing blistering authentic base so yeah I won't be back

Ordered through uber, chorizo and prawn pizza was just perfect, couldn't fault it. Also tried the chicken wings and who would have a thought a pizza place could nail the perfect taste and crumb probably better than a lot of fried chicken places. Will definitely order again!

The worst pizza I have ever had.  I ordered a Marguerita and it was dry, salty and boring.  This was my first visit to this restaurant and I was starving.  I love authentic Marguerita pizzas and people tell this place makes them well.  When I complained to the staff their attitude was "oh well" quote with a smile on their face and left me with it.  Tasted like a biscuit.  Supermarket frozen pizza would have been better.

I'll start with the positive: Pizzeria looks nice all the trendy finishes, Staff were lovely, Pizza was served surprisingly quick 10 mins on an extremely busy Friday evening. Now the bad, the pizza was terrible! Dry as cardboard, sure the toppings were ok, but pizza is all about the base. I ordered the Margherita and Prosciutto pizzas. Expecting a authentic Napoli style fresh tomato base I was extremely underwhelmed to see sliced economical tomatoes, what a waste of time

And it was great!!! <br/>Sad that they don't do half half now, or we could have tried more flavours.<br/>And it actually couldn't feed us so well, so we ordered the beef cheek pizza to takeaway. It didn't take us long, and it smelt so so good with the truffle oil.<br/>But I reckon it's better to dine in, cause it cooled down for a bit when we got home. It was still good, but not as good as the prawn one.<br/>Overall: EXCELLENT!!! will absolutely come back! :D

Amazing pizza toppings. But the dough itself was a little dense and resembled Pizza Hut style basing. Still delicious though! Just not the kind of gourmet I was expecting. Would still go back either way.

Always good. Service is tops, everyone is super friendly and the wait time is minimal.<br/>I've been dining at Hawthorn since it opened and Malvern a couple of times to mix it up. Food is consistent at both locations as it would be at the new Armadale store. The guys who run it have pride in their business model and it works well. <br/>Tonight we had the lamb ribs which were slow cooked and delicious and the chicken buttermilk pieces with ranch dressing. Pizzas ordered - pork sausage with fennel and apple<br/>Slaw, butternut pumpkin, lamb and pepperoni. So much pizza we had to take some home 🐷 Finished with the flourless chocolate pudding with vanilla bean ice-cream, this has been a staple on the menu since day 1 in hawthorn, it's so so good! Great way to finish a great dinner.. Rolled out! <br/>

I am so sorry to do this but the delivery we had on Saturday night was really bad :( <br/><br/>Pizza was more like a biscuit - the garlic one crunched into shards and the beef cheek pizza... All the beef was burned to a crisp. The base again cracked like a Sao - chicken pieces tasted only like seafood (and being allergic to seafood I would expect separate fryers - which most restaurants do to separate fish so everything else doesn't taste like it) <br/><br/>Ordered a burger online after as none was eaten. Will try them again in store to see if delivery vs eat in is different as everyone raves about it on here - but $65 for inedible pizzas. 😩😩😩😩

Really liked the garlic prawn pizza! Super tasty with the right balance of ingredients!<br/><br/>But the arancini balls were really average so don't bother with that.

Great starters, great pizzas, great desserts, great service in a cool little setting. There will be a Pizza Religion opening up near home so this will definitely become my local fave.

Went here for the first time with a friend. Though they had a group booking that took up most of the restaurant space, they were kind enough to accomodate us at the last minute. The service was really good too - attentive without being pushy - which we really appreciated as it took us a while to decide.<br/>Loved the pizza here! Simple flavours that really come together and balance each other well. Makes for a beautiful meal with a nice glass of wine. The only disappointment was that they've taken one of their award winning pizzas off the menu. But can't say there was anything we would complain about. The food really is excellent!

We love this place! Simplicity is a winner here. Pizzas are very tasty and not over the top like other places. Thin bases with flavoursome varieties on the menu. Very popular all nights of the week. Do yourself a favour and try the Prawn & Chorizo Pizza. 🍕

I absolutely love the pizza here - I've tried pretty much every single one on the menu and they have all been tasty, perfect thin bases and fresh ingredients! have also tried the salads which were nice. The older staff are great and friendly, however, have been in when the younger staff are working and have been ignored and waited for 15 minutes to be served after seated (wasn't busy), and when I had any questions I received a lot of 'i don't knows.'

When we took our first bite of the zucchini pizza, I looked at my partner and we smiled and said, "yum!" Some of the best pizzas we've had in the area, if not in Melbourne! The vegetarian options are to die for, we could not be happier. <br/><br/>We will be back, that's for sure!

Been here a few times and YUM! They do really superb pizza. They got perfect thin and crunchy crust and the top is made of fresh ingredients. My favorite is the prawn pizza, the balance of all the flavors and textures is just beautiful, and the salsa verde is an outstanding component which gives the prawn a sensational does of flavor. The mushroom pizza is also delightful, I guess I'll never be fed up with it Lol.

Absolutely delicious!! Love the thin bases they have and gourmet selection of pizzas. So yummy. And pretty decent value for the pizzas as well. Favourites were the lamb and prosciutto. Definately going back there!!

Really, really great pizza. Lovely thin base, fresh toppings. Consistent. They don't skimp with ingredients. I would just like more desserts and maybe some more pastas on their menu to balance out all the pizza, but otherwise this is my fave local pizza place. My fave is the pork sausage with fresh fennel and apple. Love it. All pizzas are $20. One size. This place is so much better than 400 Gradi (which is seriously over rated).

Amazing. These pizzas are the best. Great topping options and the staff are always more than accommodating. Byo too! Just don't expect a quiet dinner. Unfortunately this place is popular with families with feral children.

Love the pizza, it's just the perfect size for one :) and there is a good variety. The base is thin and crispy. $20, abit pricey but it was worth it, ended up taking away.

I don't eat a lot of pizza and came to visit this restaurant as I was looking after my very fussy nephew. Presented with a simple menu I was prepared for an average pizza. Once the pizza arrived I was surprised by the generous size. The biggest surprise was actually the taste, it was just delicious. Everything from the cheese to the base and the toppings, just amazing. Actually I was probably the fussy one and if your wondering...the nephew loved it.

The pizza is very good, thin crust, big size, fresh ingredients. I ordered the pepperoni and I was so happy with it, the mint on top is a nice touch. the service is great, waiters were friendly and attentive, try to make a booking before u go on weekends, as its packed.

Hands down worst pizza I have had in Melbourne. Cold little flavour. I usually order through pizza co who are much better. Wont go here again.

Great pizzas that are consistently great! So happy another shop has followed the original hawthorn one. My favourites by far are the mushroom and the prawn/pea toppings. Crusts are thin so for super big eaters they may want to order a starter.

Losing pie religion? Religion is a matter of faith and personal belief, which can divide opinion. Pizza is a pleasure which shouldn't be subject to the same qualifications. Some other dishes here left me wondering about divine intervention.<br/><br/>I was here for a 40th birthday with about 20 guests. A set menu makes sense for those numbers but the lack of flavour in much of the antipasto was nearly a sin. The white and blue cheese had little discernible taste. The salami was similar although the prosciutto was better, and the garlic pizzas made as if to ward off vampires, just how l like it.<br/><br/>The birthday girl chose a selection of pizzas from the long list of options, and being an adventurous lass, selected some of the more unusual, including a pea, prawn and pesto combo. l really liked it but the man next to me didn't, presumably looking for something more meaty and catholic. I also had the lamb one, which made me think of an open souvlaki, which l wanted to love but only liked because l was hungry. The pumpkin one with ok but not the best example of its type. I found the sausage/meatball and shredded cabbage (!) option less convincing, a bit like a fad - or maybe I'm just not a Jedi. The salad of feta, mint and peas, and another of seemingly the same shredded cabbage were a fresh burst needed amidst lots of pizza.<br/><br/>Dessert was choc pizza served with a scoop of ice cream, and a gluten free choc pudding. Both tasted good but are not very conducive to sharing. No photos sadly because it wasn't the kind of event that allowed them, but the food presentation was simple and pleasing.<br/><br/>Service was swift and fairly attentive, no mean feat on a busy Sat night, although there were quite a few repeated requests for water that took too many goes to fulfil (there was wine on the tables already paid for by the hostess). They have a very sophisticated sales system, juggling many diners and large takeaway orders, and meet the demands of a roaring trade generally well. Overall, it was good rather than great as I'd been led to believe.

Amazing pizza but a big pity about the rude waitress who greeted us - giving me the once over as we entered. Then proceeded to be annoyed that there was no space on the table to place our meals then gave us the wrong bill !!

Visited the Malvern outlet tonight.. Very chic and smart . A bigger place than their Hawtheon one. The place did not disappoint . Good service, and excellent pizzas!! Thin base, crisp and fresh produce. We chorizo pizza was delicious! If you have not tried this place, do give it a go, you won't be disappointed!! Oh, did I say they even have a Pizza Religion 'lager' on tap.. Yummmm

Walking into Pizza Religion Malvern I was greeted with a friendly smile from the helpful (and may I add very good looking!) wait staff. I chose the PR Lager and it went down a treat, a quite earthy yet fruity base. My husband and I started with a calamari salad and the 'Arancini of the day" which luckily for us, was our favourite cheese, parmesan!!! We were over the moon. We opted to share a GF Meatball pizza (my husband is celiac, which is soooo annoying but I couldn't even tell the difference between GF and normal!!). We were feeling adventurous and ordered the flourless chocolate pudding to share and it was divinity. Sheer divinity!! Will be definitely coming back again and again for more! Great pizza! Awesome variety of flavours, crispy base, great delivery too. We are slowly working our way through the whole menu, all have been fantastic so far.

The pizzas here are really delicious. We have been to the restaurant once and had takeaway twice and the food is always delicious no matter what pizza you choose. Service was a little slow on a busy Saturday night, had to wait for a table and parking was limited but it was worth it for the food.

Ordered the following to share between 6 people:<br/><br/>- Chorizo (see attached picture)<br/>- Zucchini<br/>- Pepperoni <br/>- Chicken and Corn Special which was spiced chicken, creamed corn, coriander with basil and jalapeño aioli.<br/><br/>The pizza crust was thin and crispy. The zucchini, surprisingly nice. The pepperoni, also good but a standard fare at all pizza joints. The chorizo and the chicken special on the other hand, so good.

Great service and fantastic food, can't go past the arancini. Food is always great. Have been to the hawthorn restaurant many times and see the Malvern restaurant as a nice change!

Absolutely could not fault the service or the food. The staff were so friendly and service was quick. They helped us with our pram and high chair. The chorizo and pork pizzas were delicious. We will be back. 3 ppl, 2 wines. $60

Booked a table for 3 with friends from 6 -7.30pm. We were seated on a table for 2 which we couldn't fit our 3 pizzas on. After being told we weren't allowed to use one of the vacant tables beside us we had to balance the third pizza on a seat. Disappointing given there were 4 vacant tables around us for the duration of our booking. Nice pizza but disappointing experience

Had heard from from friends a while back that the Hawthorn pizza was great, so was quite excited to try out the new Malvern restaurant. Unfortunately the pizza was pretty disappointing.<br/><br/>My wife and I shared a ham and pineapple pizza and a potato and bacon pizza. The ham and pineapple pizza, was very plain and average. Most disappointing part was that the pizza arrived just luke warm. The potato pizza was much better, but even this was nothing too exciting.<br/><br/>Despite having thin bases, neither pizza was crispy. Not sure how this place gets mentioned in the best pizza in Melbourne discussion. Maybe we were just unlucky.

9.5/10 is just not enough. Nothing but a 10 would suffice for this place. Having been to the one in Hawthorn I had extremely high expectations and somehow it was exceeded. I had no doubt the best pizza (Italy excluded) in my life. It was on the specials board, Lamb thinly sliced potato rosemary and caramelised onions with a hint of chilli. Had some of the pepperoni pizza and the beef cheek which were both amazing. The lamb pizza on the menu is world class too. Had chic pudding for desert which was great as were the staff. Already booked a return trip

Service is friendly and efficient and the pizzas are pretty good. The wine selection is limited but quite interesting. They also seem to handle kids quite well too which means diners with and without the little darlings can co-exist. Definitely give this place a go.

Not sure about this place Pizza's are ok but on the small side and I think too expensive for what u get. But that's me. I like value for my buck.

Fav pizza, it's becoming our weekly treat now that they're open in Malvern 🙈 Lamb, Meatball, Marg are favourites. Cabbage salad is good too.

Great pizzas however quantity of topping is continually reducing. The pizzas here are worth the wait, however the arancini balls are a complete and utter waste of time as an entree, being the size of a macadamia nut and very chewy.<br/>Service speed varies however waitress knowledge needs major improvement.<br/>Overall it's a good place to go for pizza but serving size is reducing which is disappointing.

Amazing!. This place was incredible. The new shop looks unreal and the pizzas were as good as ever. We had a meal on Saturday night before heading into town. Was a great way to start the even.
