Review Fleischer Continental Cakes - Malvern

Purchased a delightful Powdered Bonsoy Chai with a Fig Tart. Look, these cakes are just so attractive to the eye, they got me in, just on a visual basis, even when I wasn’t hungry. I’m a Fig freak, & loved the concept of this Fig Tart. When presented with a fork & knife, I felt like saying afterwards,….”You wouldn’t happen to have a steak knife would you?”…. I just couldn’t cut the rock hard pastry tart…. Tried hitting it with my knife, only to have the seated customers ‘snigger in their seats’ at my effort. I then had to eat just the figs & the creamy custard on its own. I’m thinking at this stage, to just pick up the pastry and squeeze it with my hands either side to force the tart to bend & snap- ‘Hallelujah!’ Now I could try the pastry! I’d say slightly ‘too think’ and ‘too sweet’…. Also, the pastry chefs could be more generous with the custard. For $6.50 each, I’m happy to leave it behind. Overall, great for a ‘visual fix’ but I won’t be ordering this again. Back to my ‘Chai with the leaf brew’ & when I get false teeth, I won’t be ordering that Tart for sure!

I love this Italian bakery and having been coming here for a while as I'm a Malvern local. They have a great range of all time favoruite savouries, pastries and cakes. I strongly recommend white chocolate mousse cake for a special occasion.

Walked this cafe many times, today I came in for some thing. I had one custard donut. But it’s very dry and quite dense. But fluffy at all. And the custard filling was a bit too thick (dry). Anyways I prefer the custard donuts from Laurent. And also Walker's Doughnuts are my fav. Cheap but delicious!

Pistachio doughnut was so good and creamy. Gahd dayum, whatever the filling is made of is so good, words cannot describe it. Also ordered a few different types of focaccia and it was great, but it needed a bit more salt. I also ate the salmon bagel, it was fantastic, a great balance of sauces, veggies and cream. So yummy. Coffee was also ordered and was yummy as.

Great Coffee, really nice cakes, very friendly and helpful staff! great place to sit down and have an afternoon coffee & cake. the Plum cake is a must have... oh and at Easter time the hot cross buns... the best!.
Sam Fatemi
I had best ever Birthday cakes from this shop. Service is nice and cakes and coffee is perfect.

Specifically asked server for an Easter cake that was baked today, when I got it home and looked at it, it was definitely not freshly baked, with the icing sugar melted, and upon tasting it, was clearly not fresh. I buy these every year. Was different batch to rest of cakes on display in cabinet. Went back and Pastry chef proceeds to argue, touch it and cut it and argue some more. First time I have had to return something here after being a long time customer for many many years - and after the awful attitude will be my last visit. If it tastes not fresh today (being a day or so old), it will be inedible tomorrow when it was to be served for family. Awful attitude, and a long time customer lost over $25.

Quite possibly the best Cafe i have ever been to, Everything freshly baked. I do like the Pistachio donut. Very reasonably priced.

Highly not recommended. I work at a nearby hospital and decided to get some coffee and croissant. On my first time at the cafe, the gentleman who served me was very rude and unfriendly. He acted as I have covid-19. I returned to the cafe a second time the next day because of the beautiful fresh croissants. Unfortunately, his manners did not change and he was very rude again which had put me off. I will never ever return again and will give my business else where.

Simply the best coffee in Melbourne.
The pastry on all their creations melts in your mouth and the quiche Lorraine is fabulous, then there are the sweet sensations ......!!!!

This place is heaven if you are looking for cakes. They have a great variety and cakes are delicious. Bought 2 cakes on different occasions.absolute gem!
Sunny Days Melbourne
This lovely cafe is perpetually busy and it's no surprise that people come here for their yummy cakes and friendly service.

I purchased a continental torte today. This was quite spectacular. It had lots of almonds and chocolate chips layered within a sweet, creamy custard and moistened with some liqueur.

If cakes are your thing, then this place is for you.
Only have positive things to say about this place. Good coffee, good service, good atmosphere, and most importantly good food. The gelato, especially citrus and dark vegan chocolate are up there with the best in Melbourne. The pizza slices (Margherita & Zucchini) are fantastic, and vastly superior to many places I’ve tried. Plum torte could have a little more liquor, but it’s still nice. Rum ball was fantastic; recommend it. Will keep returning to try different and new things available; if you’re in the area - definitely worth a visit.

Ok the cakes are delicious (authentically Italian), the coffee is excellent and the gelato best in Melbourne .... but the ambience and service are what really makes Fleischers. People sit for hours with a coffee and the papers. On one side the decor is Austrian kitsch. On the other, it’s Italian, or rather Roman. Don’t ever change a thing, Fleishers. I hope I can bring my grandchildren here.
Clairesy6
Staff are always very friendly and I love looking at all the delights in the window and cabinets inside. I mainly come to fleischers for coffee in my work break. There have been occasions where my order is incorrect but on most occasions the coffee is spot on. I love when they provide the fashion series Vittoria cups, I always look forward to seeing what beautiful pattern I’ll get. There is a variety of cakes and desserts to suit all tastes. I personally found the opera cake too sweet and prefer to go for their chocolate eclair or plum cake. Can’t wait to try some more delicious treats in the future.

Came on a weekday afternoon, where there were still a few customers coming and going for takeaways or dine in. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this place so I was very looking forward to trying the cakes. We ordered Black Forest and Baked Ricotta Cheesecake, however, I found the cakes very disappointing.

The cream in Black Forest was too much that I could barely taste any chocolate on the cake; it also masked the cherry flavours. The baked cheesecake on the other hand was doughy and tasteless, we couldn’t actually finish the cake.
Service was great and the place was cosy and clean, but don’t think we’ll come back for the cakes any time soon.
I ordered a birthday cake with fresh cream for my birthday as I don''t like chocolate. We assumed all was good when my husband got it home as I had spoken to the baker who went preferences for me. A strawberry sponge with 1. Fresh Cream on the outside 2. Toasted Nuts around the outside 3. Cream piping on the top and bottom of the cake. I got a cake that is nothing to what i described to him. I called and they rang back to say the baker denied what I requested. Their reply was I requested no such cake and that "ALL their strawberry cream sponges had the chocolate with spray on top of them". Which just proves that they just gave me a generic cake and discarded my request for some reason. Im very upset. The staff I spoke to couldn't care less. :((((

Such a shame. This place was always wonderful. The cakes were always fresh and full of Austrian flavour. Since Brunetti took over, the quality and variety has continued to deteriorate. Went today and the food was awful. Such a shame that Melbourne has lost a great continental cake destination in favour of a cheap and nasty outlet.
Mimi
Even Friday’s afternoon, the store is nearly full. The cakes are cheap and taste good. Especially I loved the chocolate, top of the Black Forest Cake. Not too sweet and rich. I will definitely try another cakes!!!

Found this spot today after work, wanted somewhere warm to go to and have a sweet treat, what I found was amazing. Very friendly and polite staff, the decor inside the shop was very nice and made it feel cosy. The Nutella milkshake was to die for, anything Nutella is a 10/10 for me. The strawberry tart wasn’t as sweet as I thought it would be but was still really nice with a crispy pastry and yummy strawberries. Will be back for sure
Kate
The sweet treats here are to die for! The staff are lovely and very attentive to customers’ needs. Prices are very reasonable for the menagerie of items on offer. A bit squishy, otherwise a lovely place to go.

I am so not a sweet tooth, but those passion fruit tarts are so addictive. The coffee is pretty terrific to. Judging by the flocks of Malvern matrons who gather here, it a great catch up spot.
Vitconvuitinh
Takeaway the Plum cake and some speciality. Really moist and fruity. Unfortunately, are those cakes before remembering to write review. Shop has a friendly staff.
The Fo0die
Fo0die dined as a guest of Fleischer Cakes and as such, the rating does not give any consideration to customer service.

We arrived at Fleischer Cakes on a lazy Saturday afternoon for some afternoon tea. The stand out for us, for this particular visit, was their gelato which, similar to all their pastry is all made onsite and soo delicious. With a cabinet filled to the brink of all different flavours, there is definitely something for everyone.
Breakfastpiggy
> Chicken bagel with avocado, tomato and rocket <

Fleischer cakes is always a go to for cakes! Their plum cake is probably the best tasting cake I've ever tried!! The amount of times I've been here to grab some cakes, and I haven't tried the bagels is actually crazy! So I finally decided it was time to try a delicious bagel, hoping it would be just as good as the cakes. Bagels are perfect for brunch and really satisfy your breakfast hunger 🤤 We for our bagels toasted because everything tastes better when it's warm! It was perfectly crunchy and the chicken was nice and warm 🙌🏽 Avo is a perfect addition to any meal, so of course it worked perfectly in this bagel! I could probably eat this every day if I had the option to! If you're in the area already getting your cakes, you should definitely buy a bagel as well!!
The breakfastpiggy team
Piggies out, Oink oink

I pass by this little shop on my way to work every week and come by every now and then to treat myself. They have a range of doughnuts and pastries in the front and also have a variety of cakes as well as gelato inside.

Today I got a cannoli($5) as they didn't have the black forest available. The cannoli filling was half chocolate and half just plain and was decorated with nuts and fruits. Quite delicious but kind of pricey for what it is. I also think it was nicer when I had it last time cause it didn't taste as fresh :// Still, can't wait to come back to try their black forest!

Service is very friendly - always full of smiles and happy to help you with anything. The interior's nothing fancy and there's a fair number of chairs and tables at the back as well as outdoors. Just a nice casual place to enjoy a sweet treat.

This has become our fav in no time, thanks to Chai Latte, Custard & Fruit Tarts, Some sort of Croissants stuffed with Jam and but obviously Italian Thick Dark Chocolate (something that we have been looking for for a really long time....and perfect for Melbourne Winters).

The perfectly sweet Dark Thick Italian Chocolate is simply perfect to be had with the help of a spoon on a cold day. Chai Latte with an appropriate dash of cinnamon was refreshing.

Not to forget their tarts and croissants, they were simply stunning.

I understand that the attendants are forever busy and occupied but it helps if you smile, greet and are gentle with patrons (without making them feel like aliens...especially us because as newbies in town, we certainly are learning and trying to understand 'what is what'. )
Hello. Imnikki
My friend raves about Fleisher's Black Forest cake all the time and I finally decided to try it to understand what the fuss was about. One bite later, I could understand why. Super moist chocolate sponge cake, generous layer of whipped cream and the unmistakable taste of cherries. It was not too sweet, and it was the lightest sponge that makes you keep going for more.

The apple strudel was another recommendation from my friend, and I must say that she has good taste. Warm and spicy apple filling, and crispy buttery pastry. We topped it with custard and it was heaven.

What surprised me was that the gelato was pretty good too. Wasn't expecting much but the coffee gelato was smooth, creamy and had none of the artificial flavour taste.

Coffee was the only letdown as it was a tad weak and too hot, but with the endless pastries and cakes to whet my appetite, I'm willing to go without my coffee here.
Chefosaurus
Friendly service with an unbelievable variety of baked goods. Service is fast & with a smile & the pastries are fresh & delicious! They even gave a gelato bar - well worth a visit.
TravisV
A nice little cake shop that has a very large range of cakes. Offers so much more than your regular cafe. The coffee is great but the cakes are the stars of the show.

Fleischer Cakes is a small, sweet cafe right in the heart of Malvern on Glenferrie Road. The staff are so lovely and friendly and service is quick! Fleischer even give out really generous tastings of there homemade hot cross buns! We had been scooping out the store on instagram, seeing such a variety of desserts but, we were severely disappointed today when we visited as many of the things we saw were not available! We tried the hot cross buns, sweet sticky and delicious! The other desserts just didn't wow or tempt us though.

TIP: Do try their famous Brutti Ma Buoni Biscotti- amazing and gluten free!!!
Smitten Kitten
Bought their plum cake as a whole cake to enjoy with guests at home. It was moist and delicious, and had generous servings of plums throughout the cake so each slice did not disappoint. A simple cake but done well!
Miss Sage Sugar
I chose the ‘Mixed Fruit Custard Tart ($4.00)’. The buttery base was filled with the most heavenly custard. The fruit on top was lovely and fresh.

Fortunately for me (and unfortunately for my waistline!) we've moved just moments from this gem of a cake shop! They have ever-changing cakes and sweet and savory pastries which are divine!

I really enjoyed the Raspberry Jam Slice (suitable for 2-3 as it's very sweet!) and the Frangipane Tart was delightful! The Blueberry and Custard Danish was also yummy, but a tad dry. Overall, a must try for sweet fans!
Eliza23
Hasn't changed a bit over the years. This is good because the cakes are spectacular. Needs a bit of a freshen up though. However, the delicious cake they serve is what is important.
Salono
This cafe has a fabulous range of cakes that you can buy whole or by the slice. The mud cake is rich and very chocolatey and the crostini deliscious. The wraps and piadinas are also tasty and worth a try.

Consistently great cakes. This is a Melbourne institution and has never failed to live up to its reputation. The Christmas ginger bread houses are a fantastic Christmas treat.
Byron's Vanilla Slice Blog
Like a mini Brunetti's in the heart of Malvern, there are lots choices in Fleischer cakes, but of course I picked myself up a custard vanilla slice. Selling at $4.50 the price was a little on the steep side given the business card size of the slice. I had my reservations about the custard as it not only looked but felt a little 'set' in its texture. After cutting a piece off and sampling the goods I was pleasantly surprised at the flavour and in fact the texture of the custard was not as rubbery as I imagined. I was also pleased with the buttery, almost biscuit-like texture of the pastry and the vanilla essence flavoured filling. On top, a neat millimeter thin layer of sweet icing which was not overbearing. Much better than I expected based on appearances, but by no means the best! Less setting agent and real vanilla pods are a must.
Prahran Local
A very busy little shop that does healthy wraps/pastries, devine sweets and coffee..they do delicious ice-cream too and you can buy on the spot or order beautiful cakes for that special occasion. This place has been in the business for over 40 years so they know a thing or two about sweets...worth a visit or two...
ToorakM
What a gorgeous little cake and treat shop! Lovely selection of cakes and breads in the front window and they also do great coffee. The staff here are super friendly and it has an out front seating area for a quick coffee.

The chocolate croissants are heavenly too! They have a huge selection and my little one loves getting something from here as we walk past!
Sandy Pok
Their passion fruit tart was delicious!

I've also tried a chocolate mud ball thing which although a bit dry, I didn't mind it. It wasn't too sweet as well, which I also liked.

Also tried their hot cross buns during Easter and they were so good when eaten warm.

You get the impression this place has seen better days. The coffee and sweets were acceptable, but not great, and the place looks unkept. It just feels a bit like they've stopped the care and attention needed.
Slinga
My go to place for an afternoon snack - apple strudel is yum, great variety of pastries and gelati as well.. variety of cakes, haven't tried a lot of the lunch items, but what I have had was good.
World In A Bite
Nom nom nom I bought this choc mud cake for my German friend's bday (about $35)... Everybody loved the cake! It's not so sweet , so you can eat a lot 😂😅 .. I've never tried savoury foods (next time!)

this one's a Glenferrie road veteran, come here and grab the croissants. chocolate mousse cake and last but not the least the plum butter cake.
Shimona
Underwhelming experience. Tiramisu was creamy and soft, but sadly lacking a strong coffee balance. I expected to get an amazing chocolate mousse, but instead there was none of the dark chocolate decadence needed, and for such a tiny cake, it was way overpriced. The rum ball was huge but a little on the dry side. Coffee was smooth but served too hot.
Aussie Nawaab
Pretty looking dry cakes. Plenty in the market that do a lot more tastier stuff than these guys. Frankly speaking its not worth the money because you dont get a quality cake. Very disappointed.
Toodles
Cakes are awesome, have had a number of cakes from there, all have been very nice. Fresh, tasty and enjoyed by our whole family. Loved the Italian Easter cake recently. Full of ricotta cheese and too many other yummy things that sent the taste buds wild.

Toodles

AMAZING! The shop has such a great atmosphere, you can see all the produce being freshly made in the kitchen, it has a real European vibe to it. The service is great everyone is very smiley and joyful, one waiter stuck out to me and my husband, a mid 30 woman with a pixie haircut, she is outstanding, she is welcoming, fast, happy, patient, beautiful and she really understands the customer. She helped me to choose Easter presents, that look fabulous. Keep up the good work beautiful! Fleischers have a beautiful display of cakes and slices, my personal favourite is the plum cake, it is to die for. Good Coffee is hard to find but here you can find it, one of the best coffees I have ever tasted! Easter eggs are marvellous there are so many exquisite ones, I just love them all. I had never liked hot cross buns before fleischers, theirs are one of a kind, so flavoursome and authentic but nothing beats their chocolate got cross buns, I loved it so much, it had such an original flavour. Fleischers is my favourite cake shop and I highly recommend it, I would not go anywhere else for a cake, coffee or some sort of other delight!!!!!!

Otherwise, it was a beautiful cake and absolutely divine. I also ordered a white chocolate plaque to put on top of the cake as well. Originally the cake was $180, after all the extras it came to $220.
Happy Eater
Plum butter cake is a must!. Went here today for coffee and a cake. All cakes looked divine! I found it hard to pick. Ended up with a slice of the Plum butter cake and a coffee, OMG it was the best Plum butter cake ever! Service was excellent and its now one of my new favourite cake places. Am very excited being a local girl!

Badly made to order. The standard of made-to-order cakes, is very low.
Unless it is specifically something you have seen in their lovely display window, which they have made previously, do not order any custom design cakes, as you will be sorely disappointed.

It's a great shame, as the cakes there are really nice, but the decorating skills are just not there for custom-made, especially if it is for a special event such as a wedding or 50th. Perhaps for important events, they should hire a cake decorator.

Otherwise, if you love the taste of the cakes, order those which they currently make, and then just hire a display cake for show. You'll have a beautiful cake to look at, and a delicious cake for yourself and your guests to eat.

Love it!. We love coming here! We love the warm atmosphere of the shop and the great coffee. In our experience the staff have always so very friendly. I have always enjoyed everything I have ever tried....especially the donuts! Highly recommend Fleischers

Good cakes but otherwise pretty ordinary. My Mum used to like the old world atmosphere and cakes of Fleischer Cakes but even she now is unimpressed with the poor taste of their coffees. For my part I believe their cakes are still good too, but their coffees are very ordinary and the behaviors of their waiting staff odd. For example in a small cafe, I found it difficult to understand why serving waiters yell out prepared coffee orders for the seated assembled to acknowledge. Most other places simply have a system that ties any order to a table location.

Italian Hot Chocolate. Authentic thick Italian hot chocolate
Prue Kasby
Food was ok and the service was terrible. The abnoxious brunette waiter proceeded to yell to the other staff members -whilst we ate our food- how hungover they were and how rude some customers had been. She was very rude herself and clearly isn't focused on customer service. As a business owner i understand how important it is to make sure every single customer is satisfied with service, this is clearly not a priority here. Very unpleasant.

Ordered cakes for 11th may. Picked up two cakes that were ordered for Mother's day and a birthday.
Same cakes. Lemon Flans/Tarts.
Very ordinary and sinful baking black bits from the baking pan....not good enough!!
Too late to sort out as they were both served at night. We left the worst one in the box.
I am sure they have the customer's phone number to correct this...??
Jo
One word AMAZING!!! I come here most Saturdays for lunch. Vege quiche and salad with a very well made latte - a total winner never disappointed (expect once when they had no salad or quiche left!!!) excellent value indeed..
Ayhan Serbest
The World's Best Vanilla Slice!! This place is a must visit for anyone with a sweet tooth. It has an amazing atmosphere, great service and in addition to the delicious treats the coffee is always impeccable. The only problem with this place is there are too many amazing desserts to choose from.
Lovegoodfood
No apologies here. Once again, do not order wedding cakes here.
As I said in my previous review, the little cakes in the window and display of this shop are indeed lovely. The look and taste truely like those you would find in cake shops of Europe and the coffee is also great.

Pop in here for a coffee with cake! But just no wedding cake.

Hence why it was so disappointing when the cake that we ordered for the wedding came out looking nothing like what we asked. The rendering of the cake is not the problem. The issues are:
1. The 'rendering' did not fully cover the cake tiers, you could see cracks of brown cake underneath;
2. The cake tiers were not even
3. The decorations were not professionally applied.

The Wedding cake was supposed to be the centrepiece of the wedding, for all relatives and friends to see, so I'm sure you can appreciate the stress that it caused the bride when she saw how it looked at 4:45pm the day before the wedding. Have a look at the photos...

I was naturally upset, however remained polite over the phone. I explained that the cake looked totally different to the photo of the cake I ordered and asked for it to be fixed up. It was the pastry chef who went irate and started abusing me over the phone and then had the audacity to call the venue to abuse their staff.

And I did ask for a refund, but the pastry chef was too busy raising his voice at me to notice.

I suggest that you do not put anyone else through this and just don't make wedding cakes.

-----17 Jul, 2013-----

Not for Wedding Cakes. Lovely, European style cake shop. But WEDDING CAKES ARE NOT THEIR STRENGTH.

If you're planning an indulgent afternoon tea, this is the right place to go!
The little cakes in the window are lovely and so is the coffee.

However, if you are planning a Wedding, do not buy your cake here.

You would think that a patissier who can make such lovely little cakes for the window would be able to create something spectacular for a wedding. Think again!

A few months ago I ordered a wedding cake here. I spoke to one of the head pastry chefs, and showed him a picture of how I would like it to look. He assured me that he would make it the same, with the inside being a cake of my choice.

He directed me to a place where cake decorations were sold nearby. I purchased all the decorations, getting the girls at the counter to measure them in proportion to a standard 3 tier tins that they had. Everything looked perfect!

As per the pastry chef's instructions, a few days before the wedding I passed the decorations on to him and paid the full amount of $750.

The day before the wedding I visited the wedding venue to quickly pass on some little bits and pieces. One of the staff called me into their office, sheepishly, saying "I think you should come and take a look at this". In the office I see the UGLIEST wedding cake I have ever laid my eyes on! The tiers were not even, the icing was not evenly distributed and the decorations were stuck on with the wires poking out.

It looked as though someone with absolutely no baking experience created this. As though a child had played with plasticine! Look, had this not been a wedding cake, I probably would grit my teeth & bare it. Unfortunately for this special occasion I could not do this.

I had no idea what to do! I called up the pastry chef. When I told him how horrified I was he got annoyed. He asked for a photo of it. When he received it he claimed that he was proud of it and that everyone who saw it thought it looked good. I explained that it was nothing like the cake I ordered and once again sent him the original picture of the cake I ordered. When I asked him if he can come around to fix it up, he refused and was rude to me, screaming at me over the phone the afternoon before my wedding, and then calling up the venue and abusing & threatening them over the phone.

In the end I had to get a 'display cake' or in other words, a fake cake for show, so that the guests would not see this disgrace. That man who made that cake should be ashamed to call himself a pastry chef.

In short, NEVER EVER ORDER WEDDING CAKE from this shop. I got no help from them nor even a refund and due to all the stress this caused, nearly ruined my wedding day.

Delicious cheap treats (I recommend the custard donut) and excellent coffee. Open at 5pm when most other cafes are shut! :)

Such sweet treats. Oh my goodness...I can see why they rave about the cakes and biscuits here...I was very happy with my choice of coconut biscuit ..it was fantastic! Highly recommended....

Now they have amazing home made 'Italian Gelato' in unbelievable flavours . ! Worst pie ever!. On Saturday May 25, 2013, I purchased to take away 4 small pies that were meant to contain steak and cabbage. When I ate one that evening, I could barely find any filling and the pastry was so thick that it was almost inedible. I don't think I have ever eaten a worse pie and considering the reputation of this shop, I was particularly disappointed. The pies were $5.00 each but I would rather have paid more for a decent product.
Littleguy11
The best cakes and quiches, very yummy. I go here when I am down Glenferrie rd, and is great to take out for visitor.
Kato
DEE-LISH!. Fantastic coffee, and beautifully prepared fresh cakes and pastries. I like that you can see glimpses into the kitchen - there's pastry chefs buzzing about making everything on premises - looks a bit like Santa's Workshop! Speaking to the staff, it was obvious everyone took real pride in what they do - and it shows! Also the best plum cake EVER!
Caroline Yarras Edge
I suggest the lemon meringue pie. I have made it my mission in life to find the best one in Melbourne and so far the one in fleishers has trumped the rest. All the other food I have tried as well have been delicious

Best tiramis. Coffe is very good! and any cakes yammy. specialy tiramisu is best!!

Magnifico!!. Senastional work guys. Piero and the team make a visit down this end of Glenferrie Rd well worth while. Italian underpinnings but cakes certainly cover a lot of European territory. Coffee great as well. Best pasticceria this side of the river.

Bought some mixed cakes for mothers day lunch and made the fussiest happy. Awesome cakes. Great flavor and value for money.

Simply splendid in every way. Best value in melbourne. i just love the fact that all the cakes and pastries are made in house...no premixes here !!!! coffee is excellent, all our family special occasion cakes have been superb, far cheaper than almost any other cake shop in melbourne for superior quality. the folks who live in malvern are very fortunate indeed. keep up the good work

Best Italian custard donuts. Fleischer's make fabulous custard filled Italian style donuts. It's also hard to beat their vanilla slice. They are not cheap but the quality speaks for itself. If you buy a cake make sure it's fresh, as they sometimes sell day old cakes at a cheaper price. Insist on fresh always!

They also do the best meat pies in town.

Where's the poppy seed strudel?. Since the new owner the poppy seed strudel seems to have disappeared which is a little sad for me as it was one of my favourites! There are lots of Italian cakes and doughnuts but sadly the Austrian delicacies are much fewer these days. The classical music still drifts through the cafe and the walls are still aligned with picturesque Austrian scenes. Thankfully the coffee has definitely improved.

Fleischer, mmm, more like "Fleece 'em!". I ordered a cake from their website for my daughter's first birthday and christening - the pink decorated "number five cake" as pictured on their website (but in the shape of a number one, with little flower daisys). Although we wanted a mudcake, apparently it is not possible to make a mudcake with pink icing, so we had to settle for a cream cake. I was prepared to sacrafice the internal bit to get the external bit right. When the cake arrived, there was not a scrap of pink icing or flowers in sight; just a very brown chocolatey shaped number one, with jam and cream sponge inside. I could have cried. It was not very pretty for a baby girl first birthday and christening, but at 4pm on a Saturday it's that or nothing. Fleischer's took my order, could not deliver the labour intensive pink fluffy version and slapped a bit of chocolate icing and strawberries on top of their formula cake - which was the lazy way out. Nothing like what I ordered. All that for $160? I will NEVER be back.
Adrian
Traditional European delicacies – plum butter cake took hostage over tastebuds Fleischer has been around for many years and is a local staple in Malvern. I still recall the amount of times I used to go here after school for to savour the fresh plum cake a
