Review Pho 55 - Malvern

Love love love Pho55. Don't be fooled it's not your typical pho restaurant. These guys have a massive menu with ALL your favourite vietnamese dishes. The staff are lovely & so is the food. Hot tip. You need make a booking on a public holiday cause this joint gets busy yo!!! Ps. We ❤ you guys!!!

Thank you pho55 , every dish we ordered was outstanding! It’s is definitely worth the 1.5 hours to get to the restaurant. We all thoroughly enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. The staff working were friendly and made sure, we had everything we needed. Will definitely be back!

This is our favourite spot, great food and even better staff. Sad to see impatient people being rude here the place is always packed for a reason, the food is amazing! Staff are working so hard and always have time for a bit of a chat and remember our orders and names. Cannot ask for better service thanks guys!!!!

This place is amazing :) me and my partner found this place randomly one night, and have been back a second time the spring rolls, and satay chicken are to die for :) and friendly staff aswell, very welcoming. Will be back soon.

Been here a few times and the food is good, not great and seems more Chinese than Vietnamese ie Lemon Chicken. A couple of marks off for average and haphazard service - best way I can describe it. Some of the junior staff didn’t have a clue - messed up our order and forgot things. Other staff just rude. Shame as food is good.

PHO55 is open 7 days a week. The food is always fresh and very tasty. Whatever myself or friends have ordered has always been fabulous and always of the same consistent high standard. The menu is extensive and offers a wide variety of choice for all tastes & preferences. It is a good family restaurant and parking is easy. The staff are always friendly and accomodating and will tweak a dish on the menu to suit you. It is my favourite go to restaurant.

We made a reservation for a Tuesday evening, thought it would be busy so better booked in first. We walked in and was guided to our seat followed by 20 mins of ZERO acknowledgement. Staff went to take orders for two other group of people who came after us. Then continuing to ignore us. So we walked out and told them it took too long. No apologies at all. Very poor customer service even at a night that was not busy at all.

Dined at restaurant Pho 55 with friend this evening & both our meals were burnt & tasted bitter & burnt. Told waiting staff yet received no discount or even sympathy as they said manager wasn't present. When you pay $25 for a main it's very very disappointing, especially when it's been yummy on previous visit. Won't be going here again. Imoguen

The pho is good! But the service is pretty average. We went in today and the woman was pretty nonchalant about us as customers. She was very abrupt with answering my questions and quite cold. We had to ask for water, sauces and napkins more than once. I work in service and these are small details that do contribute to the overall dining experience. The male waiter was soft spoken but nice though.

Love this place. Great food and even better service highly recommend the salt and pepper squid

Great food as always - thanks Thao Highly recommend everything on the menu, delicious!

My fiancé and I eat at Pho 55 at least once a week, we love it so much! Best Pho in melbourne, and the staff are absolutely lovely!!!

Delicious food & great service. I would recommend this resturant to everyone.

Food is reasonably good. Would have ordered more...but I instead had plenty of time to leave this review while being ignored by the wait staff... Probably won't be back.
Kate Warburton
Awesome food and great service from Thao and her staff. Enjoyed by both a large group for a function and also an intimate meal for two. Thanks for service with a smile and piping hot meals served in a timely manner. Loved it and will go back time after time.
Mark Lipton
Great flavours quick service and will be back. Make sure to order eggplant special and the seafood with XO sauce.
Trevor Chapman
The service was excellent and courteous, the lemongrass and chilli beef and also the salt and pepper squid was delicious.

If you feel like authentic Vietnamese food that's not over priced, this is the place. Great little courtyard out the back where they grow their own herbs where they use in their meals. Spotlessly clean with very friendly staff . Not being from Melbourne it was just an off chance that the place was open. Glad we went in.
Deep Sethi
The service is exceptionally poor, if only the staff can be a bit more courteous will make the experience better.
Alex Buckenham
Terrible service, terrible food, terrible elderly lady taking orders. Couldn't recommend this place less. Go to McDonald's if you wanted to be treated rudely by a lady who hates her job
Jay E Clair
Went to pick up my wifes lunch order. To my surprise. Cash only at lunch. I questioned what the deal was with that. She was doing me a 'favour' letting me pay by card this time. I'm like are you serious, you have a machine right there, why would it be cash only. She doesnt like taking feedback this lady. Anyway things escelated, cannot get over how rude this woman was.
Louise Findlay
Delicious pho, great price, really friendly staff. The place was so clean and food was sent out quickly, perfect place for a quick yummy lunch in Malvern. Pho & soft drink $13.50 ** cash only at lunch FYI!!
Coffee And Food Enthusiast.
Great pho, not too many Vietnamese restaurants in the area so it's good to have one that does a good broth (broth was a touch peppery for me) but overall pretty good, will come back again and try the rest of the menu. Bring cash for lunch.
FoodieGuru_770
Came here last week. Food was ok. Had a glass of red wine. It was ok. A little too warm. The rice paper rolls were filling but the sauce lacked taste. The salmon dish was good but I wanted a sizzling plate but only options were rockling which I don’t like. It would have been good for the kitchen to make the salmon instead. I thought this was a pass at best.
Stephanie Campbell
Had the sweet and sour pork battered here several times, good siz serve and flavour is spot on, Pho is good and all prices are very reasonable
Yuminmytum
Staff are lovely, in particular the owner. She runs the show and makes the restaurant welcoming. Food is delicious with a great price point. Become our local very quickly. Pho is delicious. 👍🏼
Lizc57
Well to say the service was dreadful is a understatement both staff and owner alike. Food was reasonable what you get of it. But all in all terrible service with staff and management both wanting the last word with shocking attitude. Half serves of food on sizzling plates and spot the chicken and beef in both. Needless to say will never advise any one to dine here at all.
Leann Hamilton
We travel over an hour to dine at Pho 55. The food is fresh and full of flavor. The staff are friendly and always have a smile on their face. I recommend this restaurant to all my friends.

As a person who grew up in a family run business,it’s encouraging to be at a restaurant where the owners are hard working and passionate about trying to satisfy their customers wants.<br/>Hygiene is high on my list as a barometer of a restaurant’s attention to detail.<br/>An usual comment but Pho 55 has twice impressed 2 separate groups of friends for its very clean toilet facilities..<br/>This small detail carries over into all areas of Pho55s approach to dining.<br/>The food is always fresh and presented in a timely manner.<br/>Pricing is very reasonable.<br/><br/>I will continue to return and enjoy all the menu has to offer.<br/>Regards Tony<br/><br/>

Utterly disgusting, our pho came with a wasp in it! <br/><br/>luckily we saw it before we ate it, we had to throw everything out. <br/><br/>We reported it to their manager and she just laughed. Do not go near this unhygienic, contaminated restaurant!<br/><br/>They've been reported to health services

I ate at this restaurant tonight on my own, when I went to pay there was a sign on the counter saying $20 min for card payment plus PLUS 1.8 % surcharge!!! I was not aware of this prior to eating! I did not have cash! She was very very rude to me and said she would let me off this time! Well there certainly won’t be a next time!!! She didn’t even say thank you!!! You need to let your customers know prior to eating that there is a min amount for card payments! Not at the time of paying!! I’m sure this is prob for tax purposes!!! And it’s illegal . RUDE STAFF!!! LEARN SOME MANNERS AND RESPECT YOUR CUSTOMERS!!!
The Diner
Always great food love it hear. The chicken curry by far the best there is. Everything is made there you can taste it. Service needs a little work but nothing I can really complain about.
Bella
We came here after seeing how packed the restaurant was even after 8.30 on a Monday night. The staff at this family restaurant were really nice and attentive, and the food was very fresh and tasty. We will definitely be returning to this local gem.

Most amazing vietnamese food in Melbourne. Has a western twist catering for the Australians which is lovely. Great flavour, great aroma and great environment. Service here is well above average and we feel like family everytime we come here.
Miss Sage Sugar
I opted for the ‘Lemon Chicken ($17.00)’… My dining companion picked the ‘Sweet and Sour Pork ($17.00)’. We shared a ‘Large Steamed Rice ($4.00)’ to go with our mains…
Spudsburgeradventures
Pretty much as expected when visiting this Vietnamese restaurant, large variety of dishes at reasonable prices, all quite tasty, without being outstanding. The service is pretty good, very friendly and helpful. Hits the spot and a great option for takeaway.
KClovesherfood?
For real vietnamese go the extra distance and head to Victoria st richmond. Friendly staff, easy to find a park, pleasant decor, reasonable prices but actually the food was not that great.
Taylor Dillon
I looked at the 'lunch' menu out the front which gave a price of $12 for the medium chicken pho however when paying for it at the counter the manager charged me $13. Don't mind about the one dollar, more just the principle of paying more than advertised. I only counted 8 pieces of chicken and much more than half the bowl was stock leaving minimal space for noodles. When asking about possibly having more fresh chilli I was told that would be at extra cost. The stock was tasty and the chicken tender, just a shame I felt cheated on price and service.
Katherine
Came here for lunch and they only take cash. The waitress was very rude and impatient to me. When I asked her something, she seemed annoyed. I had the chicken rice noodles, it was standard, but I won't come back again for the poor service.

The first thing you will notice when stepping into Pho 55 is how gleaming and clean the decor is with blue neon lights in the restaurant and nostalgic pictures of Vietnam, which immediately attracts you to the place and gets you ready for the experience of dining in the restaurant and having a good time with excellent food.My experience was that The  Pho and rice paper rolls were very fresh and the soup was clean and tasty. The Rice Paper Rolls were light and sustaining and the dipping sauce was also nice.Service is what you would expect from a busy restaurant and waiters could use more compassion and time with the patrons, don't let that put you off food which is authentic and tasty.Prices are a little bit more than what you would expect from a typical Vietnamese restaurant but not by much, however, this is in Malvern..I went with my dad who was very upset at the fact that he had to pay an additional 1.8% on his credit card when paying for the bill and also  got three small prawns in his noodle soup(he ordered the prawn and pork noodle soup without pork) and when he complained and  asked  the waiter for more prawns for the price he paid for the noodle soup, the waiter then said that would be an extra $1 for each prawn on top of the price he paid for the soup, which really were very small prawns and like shrimps really. He then got into an argument with the waitress over it who didn't seem phased by it at all. This was like out of an episode of Seinfeld.LOL!!6/10  The restaurant would be better if the staff could be better in terms of being more accommodating to the patrons-decent food!!all factors considered
Johnnymirand
Reasonably tasty food, not sensational but good . However prices were well above the menu prices I saw on Zomato so these are fairly outdated. The service was good though it was late on a Saturday and not crowded
Thought For Food
Waited half an hour to get order taken. Waitress signaled to us a few times let us know she'll be coming to take our order but never came back (she decided to clear tables next to us instead of taking orders) We decided to leave and go somewhere who knows the definition of customer service. I would have loved tohave reviewed the food had the restaurant given us the opportunity to eat it.

First time visitor here tonight - four of us. Nearly every table was full and there was a steady flow of take away. Overall, Excellent dinner!!!! Started with paper rolls which were hearty with a great peanut sauce. We shared egg noodle soup with chicken, nearly a meal in itself, spiced up with the chilli sauce. For mains we shared beef with chilli and lemongrass (the family favourite!), chicken and potato curry, and pork with honey and pepper (which was also quite good though the pork pieces seemed a little too processed). Beer and wine prices are very reasonable and overall dinner for 4 at $95, amazing flavour and value for money!! Highly recommended.

This place is awesome !! The staff are so lovely and friendly and treat you like family! I bring my friends and family here regularly and they all enjoy it. Great local Vietnamese food!! The manager is amazing and we greatly recommend the duck with mince prawn as well as their lamb with satay sauce ! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 I crave as I type this !!

Everything was ok but not the fried chicken rice. The food portion is so less. The only Pho in town but my house mate tasted it before and she recommended me not to try this - too salty.
Yc
Fried rice was nice but thats not hard. Other dishes were definitely not vietnamese. All soaked in a heavy muggy msg filled sauce and not even tasty... just felt heavy for nothing. <br/>Staff werent friendly either and definitely not family friendly.
La Ola Es Mia Cocina.
The rice paper rolls are fantastic with a very tasty peanut sauce to dip them in. The sad thing is the pho really lets them down. I found the broth had to much a beef stock flavour and not a traditional Vietnamese style of a pho the way it should be. This lets them down on so many levels unfortunately. I'm a pho expert and have been to many locations around Melbourne and had a wide variety of experience when it comes to how pho should taste. I must admit the venue is quite attractive and they have done an excellent job with the decor. Friendly service gives them some bonus points.
Skymm07
Finally found a local place to fulfill my pho cravings! Good food, great value, quick service. I've only had the pho so far, but some of the other food on the menu looks appetising, on the book for next time.

Entrees never arrived...and service in general was so slow. We left so dissapointed with only half a meal after an 1h and a half wait. Such a pity because the food is actually good.
Marcus C
TERRIBLE service and utterly RUDE! DISGUSTING! The utter rudeness and attitude of management has turned us OFF this place for good! <br/><br/>My girlfriend and myself were enjoying our meal last night until we found a hair in our beef curry. After we brought this to management's attention, instead of an apology, the manager/owner blatantly shouted at us that its not from their chef as he wears a hat. She then proceeded to shout: "FINE, THEN DON'T EAT IT!" before quickly taking away the curry with no further explanation! The chef then proceeded to come out of the kitchen and eyed us off (followed by other staff); purposefully making us feel very uncomfortable! <br/><br/>I recommend no-one to eat here! Terrible service and utterly rude! <br/><br/>Threatening and intimidating your customers, Pho55, you are disgusting and we WON'T be back!
Tracy
The lady (claimed to be the owner) should not be in the service industry. My Vietnamese pancake was burnt so I asked the waitress to change another one. The owner came, acting aggressive and rude, said to me in Vietnamese "Don't say that. It's the way the pancake is cooked here. It has onion so it is burnt. If you don't want it burnt, you must tell us in advance." <br/><br/>I'm a Vietnamese, born and raised in Vietnam. I know how that pancake is cooked. It has onion but it doesn't mean it should be burnt. After being rude to me, she raised voice with her own staff and the chef.I truly felt sorry for them. <br/><br/>The restaurant is new and clean. Other food that we ordered - beef in betel leaves was dried & the portion was considered not generous (I am not a big eater and I was not full with just a main), pho was bland, the stock was thick and has a lot of fat, not the light texture that it should be. <br/><br/>I strongly recommend not to visit this place.
Sandy Pok
The only decent Vietnamese joint on this side of Glenferrie Road. By Footscray standards, the taste is not amazing and the portions are not as generous. However all the other Asian eateries around this area are either Japanese or Chinese, so there really isn’t much of a competition for them anyway.
Jspullen57
I quite enjoyed the food until I discovered the chicken wasn't cooked properly, raw in the middle! Yuk. I brought to their attention to make sure it doesn't happen again.<br/>Apologized, but that was all, so beware. That night and the next day I felt a bit sick.
Robert Needleman
I went here for dinner the other day with an inconveniently large family, and was smoothly accommodated by the staff. Having just been to Vietnam, both the authentic and non-authentic Chinese-inspired dishes lived up to expectation. Personally, I found the atmosphere was a bit busy and impersonal, but overall I had a pleasant experience.

Ive come here around half a dozen times not sure why i keep coming back i guess its because i live nearby and its easy. First of all absolutely shocking service, i ordered the salad without peanuts and it always comes with small traces of them i am highly alergic. My boyfriend ordered the chicken ribs and they brought out the complete wrong dish. Meals always come out at different times also. <br/><br/>I was also charged to take away a doggy bag which they didnt tell me about. Definitely wont be coming back again after today

Phở has rapidly gained in popularity among non-Vietnamese customers in the past few years, with a resulting proliferation of fairly swish new restaurants – both standalone or as part of chains – with glossy, upmarket interiors and somewhat elevated price tags. The quality of the food at such venues is variable.<br/><br/>I am a Vietnamese person with an open mind but a certain degree of scepticism toward the "trendy" new restaurants. My assessment is that Phở 55 is neither a horrific travesty nor particularly good.<br/><br/>Phở gà (chicken phở): the amount of noodles and meat was adequate but there was somewhat less than is the norm at older, established restaurants. The remaining volume of the bowl was filled out with a very large quantity of stock. Regrettably, that stock had a deficit of aroma and a surfeit of salt. My first impression upon sampling the soup was that I was drinking from the Dead Sea. On that critical measure, Phở 55's effort fell short.<br/><br/>Bún thịt bò xào xả ớt (rice vermicelli with beef and lemongrass and chilli) was more satisfying, although truth be told it would be difficult to mess it up unless one used stale ingredients. The beef was velveted, a technique which is ubiquitous in Chinese restaurants, but seems oddly out-of-place for this Vietnamese dish.<br/><br/>If the phở I ate was indicative of the usual quality, then my recommendation – despite what might be suggested by this restaurant's name – would be to steer clear of the phở.
They Still Call Me Bruce
Had a decent sliced beef pho and vegetarian Tom yum. Serviceable takeaway. Loses big points for having a $30 card minimum. WTH? Enough to put me off racing back, unfortunately for them. <br/>

I live around the corner from this place and probably eat there once a month. When the restaurant first opened, I was quite impressed with the quality, portion and price, couldn't complain. However gradually I've noticed all has been going downhill. I've ordered the broken rice with pork chops twice now in the past month, and it looked like they've scraped together pieces to serve. The pork chop appeared as if it was cut in half to make two servings and there were missing sides veggies that you would normally have.<br/>Last night was the final straw that really showed how far they've come, I ordered a take away meal with coke and they served the drink in a bubble cup (plastic take away cup with a film lid)! They told me I should've specified a can of coke - I didn't realise there were options for the same price.<br/>I really hope they lift their game, it was the only decent vietnamese restaurant in Malvern.
Leo
Get a grip people I think if you don't like it go else where as for me I will be back for sure. <br/>In 6-12 months you will struggle to get a table in hear great food, beautiful flavour and cheap. I thought it was amazing. <br/><br/>Just what Malvern needs.
Colin Wardrop
Bree and I have had dinner four times now and enjoy the fresh food, absolute great service and the price. Spent $70.00 tonight. We had two entrees, two mains with rice and two Saigon beers. Very satisfied and will go back again!
Systemico
I've been here a few times now. The food is nice, and it's reasonably priced. I usually get the Pho, but i've tried a few different dishes and same with my friends, and we all agree that it's a great place to come back to. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice, and they're always busy. The only issue is sometimes it can take a bit of time for the waiters to attend to you, or the food to come out. This is probably because the place is still newish and due to how busy they can get.

Pho 55 has to be the best Vietnamese restaurant in the area. Food is always fresh, great service and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend to others. I will be coming here regularly!
Minh Thuy Le
Early this year, a Vietnamese restaurant opened up close to one of my work places. I had wanted to visit the restaurant many times, but was held back by my preconceptions of the place. When you consider the fact that I am half Vietnamese and live in Springvale, you may begin to understand why. Having opened in an area that does not boast of its selection of Asian restaurants, Pho 55 has created it’s own place in the local dining market.
Dbgrebbie
Clean, lovely friendly service and the food was fresh and delicious. Plus it's toddler friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed our pho and grilled chicken on rice. We'll definitely be back :)
Tardar Sauce
March 2016 <br/>Thought we'd give this place another go. Nothing's changed. Pho still bland. Won't be coming back. One staff member was quite nice, the other serving staff member had wet hands, handed us wet menus and decided moving the bowl I was eating out of to place another plate on the table was a good idea; there was plenty of space on the other side of my bowl... <br/><br/><br/>--May 2015--<br/>Pho 55 is clean, has quick service, the food is cheap and quality is ok. The restaurant does carry a bit a noise if you're eating in. I had the beef pho which was alright, not amazing. It needed a bit more flavour. We would come back here for take away.

After reading the reviews of PHO55, being a regulars from Hampton Park we found it hard to believe that people could complain about the service.<br/><br/>So we decided to pay PHO55 a visit on Friday night to find out what the new business was really like from the prospective of very happy client from the previous business.<br/><br/>And as we thought disappointing service was far from our vocabulary.<br/><br/>Not only was our service up to the high standard that we were used to from Hampton Park, the meals that we ordered being Cantonese Beef and Beef in coconut cream with a side of special fried rice, we actually believe the meals were of a better standard than Hampton Park.<br/><br/>As for the comments about the satay sauce I have never seen it on a table unless it had been ordered so why wouldn't you expect to pay for it.<br/><br/>And the minimum EFT charge which stands out like a beacon on the main bar beside the register, what a joke get a life.<br/><br/>Our trip from Narre Warren was well worth it and we will be going back again.
㊙️ The Traveling Foodie
Quick service and food was on the table within 5min. <br/>However the taste is below average . Pho was below par and grill chicken is tasteless. We were hoping the Quail could provide a surprise but not. Just deep fried and sprinkle of dressing.
AmyLou
Very disappointing service. Our bill was $25. And they have a $30 minimum eftops/credit card payment. Which I was not made aware of prior to the end of my meal. I asked to pay an extra $1-$2 to cover their fees and the answer was NO. I was told to walk down the street to the nearest ATM. Where I was the one that was then stung with a $2.50 fee for using another bank. <br/><br/>Very Sour taste left after this experience. My local coffee shop doesn't even have a minimum! Very Poor! <br/><br/>There should be a sign on the front door, or the staff should inform customers of this before they are seated! Apart from the fact that there is a high chance its illegal for a business to do this. Its 2015 not 1995!!! <br/>Will NOT BE RETURNING!!!
Gordon
Has quickly become my favourite place for a midweek pho fix. The broth is very tasty and the staff always friendly even when it's busy (and it can get busy)
Natasha Juchkov (Culinary Runway)
Went here for their Grand Opening on the 18th of February. I was not expecting the big crowds and neither were the owners, but maybe CNY had something to do with it? Either way, my eagerness to try this place out dwindled with the below average customer service and excruciatingly long wait time. We waited over an hour for our meal while I saw other people seated after has have their meal served. They also came back to "reconfirm" our order after this hour, once the restaurant had become quite empty, which was unfortunate, and I would've much appreciated them just being honest and saying they had lost our order.

We loved this newish restaurant in a great location on Glenferrie Road, Malvern.<br/>Food and service were great! Second visit for my dining companion and I will definitely be returning ... and soon!
Lydia1016
Will never go back there again. A couple of Colleague and I went to Pho 55 Malvern for lunch on Friday. we ordered pho, it normally comes with a piece of lemon and other vegie and Chilli. the lemon pieces we received are tiny. we got 3-4 drops of lemon juice out of it. literally . we asked for a couple of more pieces, we were told by a middle aged female staff (looks like the owner) " that will be $2, everything cost money, you know" that will be the first time and last time for us to go there
Salono
Tasty food and friendly service. Pho 55 has a huge menu with a fantastic variety of tasty Vietnamese dishes. All the food I've had there in the two times I've been there has been well presented and delicious. <br/>All the staff are keen to please and very attentive. <br/>Highly recommend for a good Vietnamese feed.
Check Please
I wrote below over a year ago and have returned often for the chicken pho. The protein element has diminished over time sadly to unacceptably mingy. <br/><br/><br/>Perfect for lunch. The limited lunch menu still has enough to tempt, and I went for the spicy beef and noodle soup. A bowl of crisp cabbage, bamboo shoots, chilli and lemon was the accompaniment. The broth was tasty, the veggies delish, and the beef hard to find. I will go back, there is potential here.
Hayleswebo
MSG. Unfortunately They use msg to enhance the flavour. Pity that it is not stated anywhere on the menu for those of us who react badly, and that you need to ask if it is used. <br/>Dissapointing
Taralazic
Amazing food, great service, great location.....our new favourite local restaurant, highly recommend! Staff and owner so friendly, can't wait to go back!
Kellza39_3
Fantastic!. I have been to this restaurant a few times now and it is fantastic! Food amazing, great service and in a great location. The owner is fabulous - she even threw in a free bottle of champagne for us. 10/10!
Simmonsgareth
Very tasty Pho and BBH. Been here a few times for lunch. Clean, comfortable dining. As expected from a new restaurant. The flavours were all there, great to see a small size soup option for the portion conscious people also. Killer spring rolls, and everything else executed well with the herb and vegetable soup accompaniments being crispy fresh. Just what Glenferrie Rd needs. I can see myself eating here at least 3 days a week.
Nina.stephens15
Average pho- good service. Came here for dinner tonight ordered a medium size beef pho and pork/prawn rice paper rolls. The rice paper rolls were not great. The pho was also average beef was really dry, broth was okay but there wasnt enough of it just a lot of noodles. Service was good except it is annoying that it is 30$ minimum on credit/eftpos. I would come back only because it is local but nothing to special. Can someone please bring a good pho to the area!!!
Frankie Nolan
What a rip off!!. I was charged $3 extra for satay sauce. <br/>Never ever have I heard of a pho place charging for sauce. Sauce is commonly put on the table to be used freely. <br/>How ridiculous. <br/>Aside from that, noodles weren't great And generally over priced.
Rachel
Ordinary at best. Got takeaway from here as it was packed on a Saturday night and couldn't get a table. Food was average. Pho was too salty, the beef and vegetables was mediocre and was quite expensive for what it was. However it has a huge menu, so there is something for everyone.
Vt
Tasty, fresh food with fantastic service!!! Can't wait to visit again

Great Vietnamese food and a Lovely host. Visited this new restaurant last night - fantastic food with fresh amazing flavours that you expect from good vietnamese cusine. The host is delightful and funny and love the courtyard out the back. Will be coming back to this place often

Great local!. Couldn't speak highly enough of this great new little place! The staff are super friendly and having now tried several dishes on the menu, it's all fresh and delicious!
Diane.braiden
Dbraiden. Food very average and certainly not Vietnamese. More cheap (but expensive) Chinese. Other diners were truly awful - almost felt sorry for the staff.
Trungbanh1001
Best of the best. This is my first time trying vietnamese food in Malvern, and it was my best night so far. The light, the smell, the freshy of food and friendly waiting staff, you definitely have to try pho 55 once. Extremely clean and fresh.
Doilakhonnan321
Thanh. Hi there,<br/>Do you know the left soup at the end of the day?<br/>Do we need to cover the pot when it need to go down the outside drain at the end of each night?
Haithaorest
Tony. Lovely place and cleanness.<br/>Just heading down there tonight.

Delicious. Went to Pho55 last Friday for lunch and sat out in the lovely courtyard that will be fantastic next summer when the plants will be lush. We started with entrees that very tasty and for main we ordered scallops with ginger sauce - the scallops were plump, juicy and beautifully cooked, the sauce was delicious and nicely gingery; rockling with xo sauce which was again cooked really well and the sauce spicy; lamb with chilli and lemongrass, the lamb was tender with a good hit of chilli. Extra chilli was supplied for the chilliphile among us. All in all the food seemed really fresh. The service was prompt and the staff were really helpful in getting my elderly Mum to the courtyard. Will be back for sure!

Didn't Like it but Wish I Did...Has Potential. It is great to see a needed Pho restaurant open in Glenferrie Road, but compared to some of the more established areas versed in Vietnamese dishes, Pho 55 doesn't quite rate...yet.<br/><br/>Pho 55 has 209 dishes on it's menu. 209! But, the Pho is very hard to to find, I think it is in there somewhere, but after looking for a while, I gave up and just ordered. Pho should be in pride of place on the menu, not hidden away. Just order beef or chicken Pho, or a combination of both.<br/><br/>We ordered two Pho chicken and beef. A side serving plate was brought out. This consists of bean shoots, Thai basil, chilli, and lemon. Only this serving was so small that it would barely cover one soup, and certainly not two. It was the smallest I had ever seen. We asked for another, stating that it was very small, and it was provided. We still only had one small piece of lemon between two Phos. <br/><br/>The Pho broth was very weak, and didn't have the full flavour that you would expect to find in Victoria Street, Footscray, or Springvale. Also, there was no side serving of condiments; fish sauce, bbq sauce, chilli sauce, or red onion. There was nothing to allow dinners to give their own flavour to the dish. This is generally a standard, and the best part, at Pho restaurants.<br/><br/>We also ordered Rice Paper Rolls, three per serve. They were thin and lacked the mint. We felt they were Westernised rather being "authentic" as stated on the menu. The Rice Paper Rolls were thin, and four rolls would have been a more balanced serve. There is no need to bland it down these days.<br/><br/>Tea, which is usually free at such establishments, costs $3. Take it or leave it, but the pots are very small and there is the need to ask the wait-staff for refills. The menu also seemed to be focused on wine, but that is probably part of the local culture. <br/><br/>The staff were good, but I really think the teething problems are in serving of food. Make Pho the focus, as the name suggests (Look as how Pho 66 in Carnegie does it) and reduce the size of the menu. Keep it simple, make it good. Hopefully soon I can make an "I Like It" review.

"Too Busy To Take your order". We eat out in the area or get takeaway almost every night. To be told when ringing up for a takeaway order at 7pm on a Monday that "we are too busy to take your order... call later".<br/><br/>What a joke. We were giving you a second chance after an okay first order last week. We will go back to our other viet place and ensure that all of our local friends also avoid you.

Pho, what pho?. Can't comment on the food because I haven't eaten it, but I will comment on their lack of namesake pho. I'm a vegetarian and they offer nothing for me as pho. Apparently they make theirs traditionally, which is a beef broth. Great for them, how about modernising your menu and offering something for the rest of us. How hard is it to keep some vegetable broth in the cool room?<br/><br/>The rest of the menu is your standard spring rolls, curry, stir fry, you can get it at half a dozen other restaurants close by.<br/><br/>Very disappointed, I live just around the corner and was looking forward to a pho joint close by. I'll stick with Gllow Restaurant.

Yes it's new but. Yes this place is new there will be teething issues but I'm fairly certain the staff have never set foot in hospitality before. Wrong orders taken, took ages to take orders after signaling staff twice. Just all round poor staff vibe. I guess bad service taints your experience on the food

Terrible service. Won't go back unless I have a few hours to kill.

Likes It . I live really close to this restaurant so I was so excited for it to open because I'm in love with Vietnamese food and also the location is very convineient. I came in on the first night and it was so busy but although The food did take a while the food was fantastic! I understand that it was their first day open so everything was new and they hadn't settled down yet, so I came back a couple days later and the service was much better probably because the staff had more time to adjust. This restaurant is great if you want a quick lunch.<br/><br/><br/>-----01 Mar, 2015-----<br/><br/>Likes It. I like it!. We had dinner last night at Pho 55! They was so busy with full of the customer in the restaurant! the food was delicious and service was so friendly and very good, I saw they was so busy to run whole night but they are also try to good service to all customer. Thank you so much for having our family the good and enjoyable diner at your restaurant!!! By chance, I entered urban spoon to give you guys some feed back the diner last night and thank you for your service, I saw some funny comment in your restaurant they complain about your staff have meal at the end of the night and did not wash your glasses on the bench of bar, i was laughing to read that, I thought they are mental to comment that because at the end of the night you have right to sit to having your dinner after whole night was working hard. I don't know what did they expect from you guys? When will you want to wash your glasses it was none of their business, come to the local restaurant with reasonable price but they expect like going to 5 stars restaurant in crown or flower drum... . Just though they are funny whinge. Any way, I'm was happy with the foods and service last night. I will come back and recommend my friends and family come to your restaurant to try and support the new in local.

This is the 1st time I've ever written a review and I'm doing it because I have never had such bad service with such ordinary food in my life. The staff took for ever to take our order, had no idea what they were doing and had zero desire to please. When it came to pay the counter was covered in unwashed glasses and 2 of the staff we're sitting down eating their dinner! It was so pathetic it was laughable. And by the way the food was average to poor.

Thanks for lunch. This restaurant is in its early stages. It is nicely furnished and suitable for lunch or dinner bookings with a bar and alcohol available, staff appeared to be working hard to service its first lunchtime crowd. I did expect the menu to feature Pho more prominently, I found that it was not clear what some dishes actually were and it was some minutes before my order was taken.<br/>My Pho Bo (Beef Pho) broth was tasty, the beef was thin and tender although I like mine to still be pink when served. It came with a good size of bean shoots, wedge of lemon, thai basil, chilli slices and chilli sauce. I ordered an iced lemon ice tea that I was informed with an apology was unavailable however was offered an alternative of coconut juice which was delicious. I am very happy there is now a Vietnamese restaurant in this location and am looking forward to seeing how the restaurant progresses.<br/>-S

Very disappointed. NOT recommended. I went with high hopes of a Pho place in a convenient location. But there is so much wrong with this restaurant its better to make the trip across town to Footscray or wherever you like to go for good Vietnames.<br/><br/>Ordering was a chore, as much of the menu turned out to be unavailable, although the staff turned out to be blissfully unaware. There were several abortive trips back and forth to the kitchen profuse apologies and so on before we were able to settle on some items. No tea was offered but we eventually ordered some<br/><br/>Our entrée consisted of mixed spring rolls and some fried wantons. The spring roles were not especially hot or crisp and looked suspiciously like something out of a big frozen plastic bag from an asian grocery. They were served with lettuce and the smallest sprig of Vietnamese mint I've ever seen. I asked for more and was presented with a second sprig, marginally larger. The dipping sauces were so so but no bowls or plates were provided for the entrees. Fried wantons are not my thing, but they seemed ok.<br/><br/>You would think that a place called "Pho 55" would actually feature Pho on the menu as a signature dish, but it doesn't get a mention. There is however "soup" tucked away here and there on the menu, that turns out to be Pho. Two of us ordered "soup", mine pork and prawn, and the other, beef. They were served with the customary bean shoots, chopped chilli and lemon wedges. Mine came with only rice noodle, not the combination rice and egg I had ordered. The broths were ok, the meats were sparse but ok, but my last prawn had a very unpleasant flavour. I spat it out and immediately regretted the other prawns I had swallowed, though nothing came of it. No soup spoons were provided with the Pho, we had to ask for some.<br/><br/>Our other dish for the third member of our party was "salty king prawn". It came out a good half hour before the Pho eventually arrived, and was an unpleasant looking affair. A few medium size crumbed prawns sat atop a bed of sad looking chopped lettuce, decorated with a slice of carrot and a very old, dry and tragic looking sprig of parsley. The crumbed coating on the prawns looked thick and unappealing.<br/><br/>One good thing about Pho 55 is that its just a few doors from "Gourmet Dumplings" I recommend you go there instead.<br/><br/>Peter

Terrible Experience. I was so looking forward to this place opening as i love nothing better than a bowl of pho and some rice paper rolls.<br/>These guys had no no notion of what they were doing. It took so long to get drinks that I just walked up to the bar myself, I asked to order 4 times and still no one came, my Pho came with no bean shoot, coriander, chilli or lemon so just broth and noodles.<br/>My wife's dish was beyond bland.<br/>I really did not want to pay for this but was just glad it was over.
