Review Milton Wine Bar - Malvern

David Evans
Great wine selection. Not your Dan Murphy's collection which is nice. Have enjoyed some amazing grape varieties that are not standard. Just added an outdoor kitchen which is producing spectacular food. If you love food, wine and a great setting this is the place to hit

Came for Valentine’s Day, safe to say this year was a disappointment. Ordered Riesling and it tasted spoilt, got a Chardonnay to replace and they charge me and and just took my other wine away? Then ordered of the very limited menu, cheese (I’m vegetarian) and waiter didn’t understand what that meant and meat was all over the bread. Got 3 pickles and a few crackers. We also ordered the cured fish, waiter said how good it was and 20 minutes later came and said they actually didn’t have it tonight. All Up wine and 4 cheese platter cost $130 and we had $15 wines x 2? Not sure of the other reviews being so good but the staffs attitude and lack of service will see us going home hungry and wasted money. I did want it to be great but won’t be back and wouldn’t waste the time.

Very unassuming from the street front but opens up to a covered (and heated) garden out the back. Plenty of beautiful wines on the menu and great sharing food, pasta and prawns were amazing. Staff were fantastic and really accommodating to a largish group and prices were spot on. They did run out of a few spirits but given it is a wine bar I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. Will be back.

Milton’s is a lovely wine bar with an impressive range of wine. Great ambience and very professional service however the choice of dishes are extremely limited and the prices are ridiculous. $32 for 1 pork chop and a scattering of wilted spinach. $8 for bread and butter. Nice place for wine ‘ONLY’!!!

This is a fabulous place for dinner and/or drinks. The courtyard is relaxing, the food is great and the staff are so friendly and helpful. Real hospo kind of people. The chef cooking in courtyard over the fire adds so much atmosphere and his food is 👌👌👌💥

First time dining out since April - perfectly celebrated at Milton Wine Shop. The staff helped us select a wonderful selection of wines from their extensive options inside (hot tip: there is much more on offer than what is listed on the menu!). We also enjoyed some olives and cheeses which were a lovely accompaniment. Will definitely come back!

Finally got a chance to go here today. Great wine selection and extra lovely staff. Can't wait to get back! 10/10 recommend.
Valentina Angeloni
We had a meat and cheese platter, wine and beer and everything was delicious and flavoursome!!! The staff is really friendly and knowledgeable! They helped me choose the best wine for my taste and I truly appreciated that!! Also, nice cozy atmosphere!
Bronwyn Butler
Such a great place to grab some wine and have your dog come too! Great customer service and delicious wines
Patrick Irwin
Always a pleasure going to Milton, great selection of wines especially natural wines. Staff are both helpful and knowledgeable and Brad especially has gone out of his way to help me find some truly great wines
Fiona Harbison
Nice place for a group, or a couple, the mix of outdoor, cosy fire room and bar gives options.

Very sad about what Milton Wine Shop has become. Received the worst, most horribly offensive service I have ever experienced in my life tonight and will never, ever return. A friendly local wine shop has become a very ugly place because of one particular staff member.
Kate Slattery
Great place for a wine or three 🍷🍷🍷🍷
Woody Evans
A wonderful place to enjoy a tasty wine or even delightful beer.

What a fabulous bar. Very deceiving as it looks small from the front but extends out the back with a couple of rooms and a courtyard. I highly rate the service, our guy recommended fantastic wines... he knew his stuff. And the food is divine as are the pizzas you can order and have delivered to your table! I will be frequenting this bar!
Laurence Hunt
Awesome venue. Great staff. My highest recommendation.
Sandro Zimmari
Funky wine bar with a good selection of wines and great food

What a great spot! First time going last night and it won't be the last. The staff were friendly and helpful, the meats and cheese delicious. The back space was cozy and warm with the heater. Thanks for a great night!!
Kathy Anne Bentley
Personable staff that know their craft and customers. They do great business.
Sal Noonan
Perfection! Great vibe, food and service.

My only regret is not coming here often enough.
Carol Grenfell
Warm welcoming cozy atmosphere. Professional friendly staff that know their wines. Destined to become THE place to meet with friends for a relaxed drink at the end of a busy day. Great addition to the strip
Jeremy Jones
Great drinks. Great price. Great night!!! Thanks again.

Great selection of wines and nibbles. Easygoing service that ensures you're well looked after. Comfy and warm setting, a winner on all fronts. Highly recommended

I'm not going to lie, I didn't even know this place existed until hubby and I were walking past on our way from another cafe. It was a Friday afternoon, so we figured why not pop in for a nice glass of wine. With the walls lined with a huge range of temptation, we settled on a nice, crisp rosé.

The mood of this small bar is lovely, chic and relaxed. Seating is comfortable, and I imagine that it would get busy over weekends as there is also a rear courtyard.

Our wine was so good, we decided on a second glass whilst we chat with the staff and some other patrons nearby. It was a pleasure to find this little gem, and we hope to return again soon to enjoy some more delicious wine with some of the nibbles from their food menu.

Milton Wine Shop is one of my fave bars to go and relax, you can sit with your mates by the fireplace and enjoy a nice glass or bottle of red while ordering takeaway pizza from the shop next door. Highly recommend :)

Pegged as having a “friendly and welcoming” atmosphere, and a “no wine snobbery” attitude, I have to say this was further than the truth. The staff were so rude and condescending, I was made to feel so unwelcome, a nuisance and was embarrassed by how they spoke to me. As someone who is quite comfortable having dinner and a wine by myself I honestly felt so uncomfortable by the experience. Nice wine selection but not worth the angst and humiliation.
Christopher Staikos
Great place awesome devote and beer garden. So many different wines and beers I have to try something different everytime! The team are super knowledgeable friendly and know a thing or two about the products on offer. Also great a cheese board to go with.
Sophie
Setting is very nice but we were disappointed by the customer service, staff were condescending and we were not made to feel welcomed. Also quite pricey for such average service.
Tash Sutherland
Shop is set up nicely with a cute outdoor courtyard. Service however was very poor.
The staff were condescending and unhelpful when choosing a bottle and what I ended up with was a very average and overpriced wine.
Also my friend who went to order food 2 minutes after I did at 7.55 was told that the kitchen was closed. Oddly specific time for a kitchen to close especially considering that my toastie was still being prepared. The toastie was pretty delicious though.
Steph Giles
We went here on a sunny day mid week and had a glass of wine each and a beef brisket and jalapeño Jaffle with chips and pickles. Wine was delicious, food was tasty and good value for price, atmosphere was lovely and staff were friendly, helpful and down to earth. Will definitely be back!

The walls in this cosy space are lined with alcoholic deliciousness of varying prices. However the offerings by the glass though not as varied are interesting, delicious and served with a smile.
Amazing selection of wine here... It's almost overwhelming but the staff are so friendly and willing to help out. We had a delicious red along with some wine and charcuterie. A bit overpriced! So won't be doing that very often, though it was delicious.

First time here tonight after going to the Alps and Toorak cellars and being just satisfied. Service was excellent as was the quality of the wine and food. A very relaxed and enjoyable vibe where the staff are passionate and friendly. You can really tell how much the locals love it here. Our sommelier Erin was one of a kind and definitely stood out as an asset to this business. I would recommend going here over the other local wine bars due to their friendly culture and welcoming attitude. Will return.
Cemshark
Had been meaning to check this place out for a while. I really liked the look of this place, but was not thrilled by the wine. If I'm paying those prices I would like it to be amazing.
Kate Dougherty
Cosy wine bar with great selection of wine and attentive staff. Perfect for a catch up with friends on a cold wintery day. The also have a selection of cheese boards to graze on as well.
Tomlovestoeat
Vast selection of amazing wines, from affordable to not so affordable the Milton has you covered! Cosy little front and lovely courtyard at the back. Love coming here and will continue to do so.

Second visit - Strange bar staff. I asked if we had to order Pizza Gallery pizza through the bar staff or could we just call the restaurant directly. Even though I asked the question, the guy at our table answer my friend, didn't even look at me. "So I would call and say I would like to order a pizza and my name is..... Susan?" "Umm.. no. My name's not Susan." Very, very weird. Also, menus could have been cleaner. Less hitting on the customers and cleaner menus please lol

First visit - Cosy wine bar in Malvern, allows pizza deliver to the bar from the Pizza Gallery (very cool!)The 5 of us sat in the bay window, plenty of cushions, table service and delicious wines! My favourite was the Gunderloch Riesling from Germany. Yum! There is a courtyard but it was a bit chilly so we stayed inside. Can't wait to come here again.
Andylovestoeat
Our local!! Love the casual vibe and that you can order pizzas from across the road. The wine recommendations are always on point. The fire place room is perfect in the colder months 🔥👍🏼
Mike
Went in here for a cheeky wine, it was full of 50s sipping their wines. No interaction with guests. Paid 15 each for glasses of wine. Food menu was almost non existent, nothing substantial and the wines were very average.

Fantastic cozy and intimate atmosphere with a great selection of wines by the glass or better yet bottle, perfectly place to unwind after a long week for Friday night drinks.Always has a warm vibe about it with everyone enjoying the friendly but relaxed atmosphere, complimented by the staff who are friendly and knowledgeable but not intrusive of your downtime and relaxing. Coming back again soon

Cosy little wine shop, I love the decoration 😍 perfect place to unwind on a Friday night! Go early coz this place is filled fast!

Food 2: we ordered pizza 🍕 and it's delicious

Decors 1.5: wine, i love you 💕

Service 0.5: average... not much interaction 🤷🏼‍♀️

We are locals in the area and have been here many times. Our last time was exactly that, our last. While the wines are great, most of the staff are arrogant and there is one fella in particular (always has a tea towel over his shoulder) who is unaccommodating and extremely unhelpful. We were made to feel we were a hassle, rather than a customer. There are other wine shops/bars in this area and we will be frequenting them from now on.

This is my favourite local wine bar. Not pretentious at all, they just have really good wine. The range is great with prices to suite any budget. The interior is cosy but comfortable in winter, with a fire place in one of the back rooms. The garden at the back is perfect for enjoying a glass of wine on a summer night. If you find yourself not knowing how to choose a glass off of the wine list, the staff inside are incredibly helpful and will let to have a taste prior to ordering. This place attracts a pretty diverse crowd because it's perfect for anyone wanting to catch up with friends over a glass of wine.

Milton Wine Shop Malvern is all about bringing locals in the area great wines and tasty food to match in a cozy, homely space. There are a lot of wines to choose from here, with a mixture of local and international wines and a focus on organic and biodynamic wines.

What a find.... How did I not know about this place earlier?!! Delicious wines and a great selection of nibbles and toasties - the brisket toastie is a must have. We will be back!!!
ToorakM
5/5 - what a fab place! We are Toorak cellar and the Alps fans so why not get in a cab and come here! We had a great Riesling - staff are a lot more hipster than Toorak which was a bit different but yum the toasted sandwiches - good to have a couple of things on the menu to eat and loads of well priced wines to choose from!

Very popular and always buzzing with locals. Wish there were a few more food options but it is a wine bar after all. Cheese selection is good and the service is helpful without being superior. No wonder it's a hit with locals.
Onara
Groovy little wine shop-come-neighbourhood bar. Staff are really smart and helpful. And the choice of wines is impressive, as are the bar snacks.

On the few occasions I have dropped in, I've found the staff pleasant and attentive enough, without being in your face. I like that you are surrounded by wines and that for most of us we will need to ask for assistance when ordering by the glass or bottle. The cosy fire in the back room is warm and inviting as it's now Winter.

Milton the monster would give you better service!. Went to this wine shop yesterday with my husband and daughter. The minute I walked through the door I got a bad vibe! The staff were extremely unfriendly and I and my family thought we were a nuisance being there. I wanted to leave straight away but we decided to stay and have a glass of Flaxman wine, that was the highlight of our visit. So disappointed in the service as it is a funky place with great wines on their list and if the service had been up to scratch it would have become a regular haunt for us. Needless to say we will not be back. I cannot understand why the staff have to be like that, do you not want customers???

Girls night out at the Milton, good atmosphere, lovely waitress and great fun. Love th courtyard.
Christian
I think this place has the rudest staff in town which is a shame because it could be a great bar. The staff has no interest in the needs of their customers. AVOID

Expensive and noisy. Called in Friday evening. Venue crowded and very noisy. This may appeal to some however I was forced to make my way outside onto the footpath where I was clouded in cigarette (and pipe) smoke. Ash trays were all overflowing. Service poor, staff rude, wine expensive, won't be back!

Came here the other night with friends. Had a staff member help us select a red, was pretty helpful. Really nice interior and selection of wines.

Ruder. Merchant bankers behind the bar are cool to the point of rudeness. Don't ask them about their website. It's finished - ok? All you'll ever get from it is the phone number and email address - NOT the time of day. I can only assume these guys own the place. Next generation Basil Fawlties.

Rude. A night out with friends at a nice place with nice wine, accompanied by some of the rudest and most arrogant people I have ever had the displeasure of being served by. Expertise in wine and a well designed space are worthless without genuine hospitality. Certainly will not return.

-----24 Sep, 2014-----

Rude. Love this place. Perfect addition to Malvern. Staff are great! Very knowledgeable about their wines, friendly and laid-back. Cozy place for a wine (or two) and also fabulous range to buy by the bottle and take home. Any bar that has a gruner veltliner by the glass and describes it as "angular and crunchy" is enough to impress me!
Sammy12_D
What an amazing find! The wine selection is second to none as is the knowledge the staff have. This place creates a wonderful atmosphere and can't wait for warmer days to really enjoy the court yard!
Vanessa Bass
Very rude staff!!!

Perfect Sunday sesh. Great wines, really knowledgeable friendly staff that always give a great recommendation. parfait and cheese, tomato and onion relish jaffles are off tap! with the fire, great for a winter day and for a sunny one, heaps of outside options!
Andrew Slattery
Wow what an amazing place! Brilliant wine, top shelf knowledge and a fire to boot. Will definitely be back again and again
Jarrod Reid
Over charged and under delivered. Poor service, no welcoming atmosphere, ordinary food.
Kate
She's a winner!. LOVE Milton! Friendly staff, amazing wines and even an open fire to warm those winter bones! So great to see young lads doing something great! Can't wait to come back
Delish79
First time here....LOVED it!! Welcoming staff who are clearly passionate about this fantastic little place, great atmosphere that was warm and inviting, the wine selection is endless coupled with some delicious cheese and salumi options. Well done guys you're onto a winner. Perfect cosy Sunday arvo by the fire. Definitely be back.

Horrible, ignorant staff ruined night. What a pack of rude pricks. Lost my credit card, couldn't figure out our bill, tried to get us to pay for stuff that we didn't order and when we said enough is enough, the rude cow behind the bar told us not to come back. No apology.
First negative review I've ever written but this place deserves it. Total turds. Go to Chaucer Cellars on Burke Road, better selection, they know their stuff and don't treat people like crap.
VinoLover69
A wine lovers treat!. I've been in to Milton a couple of times since it opened recently and am chuffed to see it starting to really get busy on Friday and Saturday nights, this is just what we need in Malvern! We're big fans of Toorak Cellars and it's nice to see the proprietor and his partners and staff keeping with the theme of excellent wine and top notch service, while trying something a bit different down here. We have enjoyed pizza from the Pizza Gallery down the road, as well as some basic but satisfying cheese and charcuterie from their own kitchen, and always paired with an unexpected yet fantastic wine, recommended by the staff. These guys know their stuff, if you're looking for a wine with a difference and some friendly service to go with it then this is your place. The back room with the fireplace going is perfect for a cozy afternoon vino.
Armadale Diner
Staff don't like customers. Went here for a drink on Saturday night to check it out as we really like Toorak Cellars. Place had a few people in there but the layout/furnishing makes it very hard to walk around to the bar. Once we got there, the barman was clearly less than happy with his lot in life - surely the customer shouldn't be twice as polite than the staff? How hard is it to raise a smile??
Anyway, finally got a seat after another couple left and, given the layout of the place, it obviously doesn't leave a lot of room for their staff to walk around and serve people. I found this out the hard way when I copped a plate by a staff member in the back without so much as an apology.
Downed our wine and left pretty quickly.
Won't be back.
