Review Sissi & Co Cafe - Malvern

Dave Rabey
A bit pricey but very almost worth it. I had the burger good but not the best. The chips didn't have rosemary like the menu suggested and for some reason it comes with a milkshake ( otherwise $10 ). Eggs on toast with bacon will run you around $20... However the actual breakfast menu items are well priced if you don't add to them. My partner had the waffle based Benedict and it was delicious. Inglewood coffee was tasty but I wish we were offered a bottle of sparkling water with our meal, I got a glass with my long black. Anyway I'm off topic. The staff were amazing. The place seemed a little too minimal , lacking warmth so having such good service was excellent. I will definitely return. I think they let dogs in here too. I saw some come in...

Fantastic coffee as usual, and the lamb roll was unexpectedly delicious, and super juicy too. Although QR code ordering was a major headache and service wasn't exactly attentive at times. I would recommend this place, only if you're nearby.

Food is good and the indoor / outdoor area is good for private functions. Service was good today and our waitress was lovely and accommodating. Some dishes have very pretty presentation. Prices reasonable, but a 10% surcharge on both Saturday and Sunday.

Beautiful scrambled eggs, well done to the chef who did this. Customer service staff very nice work polite too.Thamk you.

Could a no frills iced coffee with Almond milk be worth $9? Apparently. The scrambled eggs with chilli were lovely but the whole ordering experience spoilt it. Forced to use a phone to read a menu, and with those prices you don’t want to sit with your phone and order like it’s pizza from home, unticking ingredients. Check box pricing is not customer friendly when you can’t swap out items:- you can have items removed for free but pay extra for an alternative. I didn’t add smoked salmon because it would’ve cost $28. So I skipped that and paid for invisible bacon that I didn’t want. Not sure if it was the pricing that left a bad taste in the mouth or the greasy peanut butter on the oily toasted granola. Light and airy atmosphere though.

I didn't see them check a single person's vaccine certificate. They didn't wipe down the table before we day down, had to ask twice. Also had to ask for water and cutlery. Drinks and food are ordered online, which was easy. They brought all of orders out at the same time even though we each ordered individually, which was great. Drinks took quite a while, food was relatively quick. On the pricier side for breakfast, but the dishes we had (smashed peas & buratta) were really nice.

Came in just after they had closed without realizing, and as I went to leave the owner chased after me and offered me a free drink anyway. It was the most hospitable and kind action and made my day. What a wonderful place! Can't wait to go back and support such a wonderful caring business. Thanks so much! ☺️

Very unfriendly service. If the QR code doesn’t work when you order, good luck getting your coffee and food. The staff were so rude when I asked about my order (after 30mins of waiting). Don’t waste your time here, plenty of other places in Melbourne to go to.

No service, walked out after sitting and waiting for 10 mins while the staff ran around each other in circles. While the food is OK, the service has always been average. Today was the final straw. I will never go back

Nice warm place in Malvern with friendly service. <br/>Decent selection of breakfast and lunch options. <br/>We ordered the spiced fritters, schnitzel sandwich and the chicken and leek pie. The spiced fritters were very doughy and not that great. The schnitzel sandwich didn’t pack much flavour though the bread was quite nice. The quality of the chicken in the pie was quite good though I wasn’t a fan of the pastry. <br/>We also ordered coffee and a banana cake which was probably the saviour of me granting them a 3.<br/>

Lovely seating areas especially in the courtyard. The cakes look yummy. We chose the Lemon and Pistachio (GF) which was an excellent choice. Lovely Pistachio flavour. The brownie, one of the best, divine. Accompanied with good coffee. Perfect combo.

Decor = 8<br/>Food = 8<br/>Coffee = 8<br/>Price = 8 <br/>Service = 8<br/><br/>The décor was good and pretty standard, but I didn’t like and I don’t like when cafes have food exposed near the counter or anywhere as the food can pick up germs from customers as well as becoming stale. <br/><br/>So, I ordered a chicken and mango salad and others ordered sandwiches. My salad was great as there was a good amount of chicken, mango, lettuce, dressing etc. The others said they enjoyed their sandwiches too.<br/><br/>The coffee was nice and strong and the temperature was hot, which made me happy! <br/><br/>The price was reasonable and the service was great too as they were efficient.

Okay, I ordered the wrong thing not realising my lasagna would be warmed in the microwave. Not nice and very dry. My friend was happy with his choice. The coffee however was brilliant, the service okay also.

Cute cafe with amazing coffee and delicious baked goods. It was hard to pick just one thing off the menu... Had breakfast here twice and it is pretty tasty.. Cannot fault breakfast jaffle was a good pick.

A nice option for a morning coffee and cake. In winter the low sun shines in the front window making it a warm and cozy spot. Only beef is it can get pretty noisy with the sound bouncing off the walls and floor. If it gets busy it's too noisy either to talk or for a relaxing, solo chill-out.

I was so surprised by some of the reviews I read on here. Working in the area, Sissi & Co has always been a stellar lunch option - and in a manner which doesn't sting the ol' bank account as most places in the area do.<br/><br/>Recommend a sandwich on the go, or an on point coffee in the morning.<br/><br/>Keep up the great work guys!

Came here for a late lunch at 2:30, only to have been told by staff to take a seat so they could bring out the menus. Took them 25 minutes to approach us with a glass of water and menu.. Then suddenly we were told the kitchen was closed, whereas the cafe closes at 4pm. No sandwiches or salads left in the glass. We left after having waited patiently for 30 minutes and no service.

Nice and clean venue. Slightly humid when we went. There is no high chair so it was very hard to eat with toddler in tow. Food and coffee was average. Nothing blew us away. We probably won't be back. Staff were nice but could come across quite snobbish.

Good coffee but disappointed in my meal I know it might sound silly but I thought that the Sriracha maple bacon would have had a hint of Sriracha and a hint of maple instead it was just eggs bacon and spinach no spice no pow no fun! <br/><br/>Place also deliberately tries to deter kids with no high chairs. Which is a bit of a thumbs down in my books.

Overpriced pretentious cafe. Nice coffee but if your charging $10 for a basic egg sandwich that's a total rip off even if your eggs are organic ( for that much I certainly hope so). So many other cafes nearby will be giving this one a miss next time.

Okay. I took my adult son for lunch. Disappointed to find that breakfast finished at 12. I know it's breakfast but most cafes in this area offer breakfast all day. Most of the options on the menu had to be reheated. I chose a vegetable frittata with salad and my son ordered a arancini ball with salad. Both items had to be reheated. I'm not sure how they reheat but both ended up dry and under seasoned. The salad was okay at the best. Given the choice in the area I won't go back.

Running late for an appointment when I heard my stomach growl and realised that I hadn't had any breakfast. Zoomed into Sissi Co to grab something quick and easy. This experience was PAINFULL. <br/><br/>They didn't have smoothies or anything to eat on the run so I ordered a quiche. I didn't want it heated as I was in a rush, staff told me that it had to be heated to serve there. When I asked why she didn't have an answer. So I said I'd have it takeaway so she didn't have to heat it, explained that I was in a rush. Then she said that I could have it there unheated which was odd as she had emphatically refused this in the first instance.<br/><br/>She then charged me a dollar more than signed, when I queried price she said it's a dollar more to eat there for service (hahahahaha, yeh, cause I've had great service so far). Plus who marks their prices for takeaway then adds more for eat in in Melbourne? <br/><br/>Anyway, she then told me to take a seat. I waited 10 minutes, not really understanding why I was waiting (it's a cold quiche which I saw her put on a plate, how long can it take?). I went up to the counter and asked if I could just take it away, saying as politely as I could muster that I was in a rush (which she already knew, grrrr!). Why was it taking so long? <br/><br/>Now, I might sound really grumpy, but I'd been up early with a sick baby and did all I could to get said baby sorted so I could get out the door to an appointment only to realise that I hadn't eaten (any breastfeeding Mumma will attest that when you're hungry, you're HUNGRY!). I think worse than her not listening and stuffing me about was her attitude. The way she looked down her nose at me and carried on about heating food.... arghhhh! <br/><br/>I won't be going back. It's a shame that the staff weren't helpful as the food looked ok. Food was on the pricey side too.

To be 100% honest, it takes me a fair bit of hesitation to recommend something if I’m not wild about the interiors or if its not super cheap eats of the asian kind, but Sissi & Co gets both; my “thumbs up” AND my “I will be back”. It’s just one of those easy-to-come-back-to places.

Lovely atmosphere. We had a really nice lunch here, friendly attentive service, lovely courtyard to the rear of the cafe! I had a chicken snitzle with salad my friend had a savoury tart, both were great. Can be very noisy though.

Terrible. So bad it was laughable. No service what so ever- had to ask for menu's, re-order coffees that never came. And they can't even reheat food properly!!

Quite disappointed with this place, we came because of the review on Broadsheet but it did not live up to our expectations. The service wasn't great, with barely any smiles and one waitress spilling my hot tea all over my partners legs. My meal was tasty but merely lukewarm, my partners meal (chorizo and beans with a poached egg and sourdough) was also lukewarm, had only two tiny pieces of chorizo and came in a tiny ramekin, definitely not worth the $17 or $17.50 we paid for it. No one asked how our meal was either, when the dishes were cleared nor when we paid for our meal or we would have said something. Definitely wouldn't recommend and won't be returning.

PLEASE FIX IT!!. How can a place with such great food and coffee let itself down continuously with horrible service. Slow, unfriendly, disorganized and generally hopeless. It's so frustrating because I want to enjoy it here but every time I go it takes me 3 months to go back. Business must be good to not have to address these issues.

Local, frequent customer disappointed. I used to visit Sissi and Co 3-4 times week because the coffee is so good, but unfortunately I have decided to not return to Sissi as the service is simply not good enough. Countless times I have sat down with my mother at a table waiting for service and have never been tended to, until I walk up to the counter and decide to order and pay for it upfront. This, I'm sure could come across as pretentious but I am far from it, a customer simply expects that after 15 minutes of waiting in a cafe that waiters the table, to have been given menus and water. I have spent my last few visits waiting in line for up to 10 minutes just to order my coffee. Its so disappointing because the coffee beans are delish and the barista is great but the service lets it down. So many girls for such slow service is concerning. If they improved the service at Sissi I would return in a heart beat.

Great breakfast - friendly attentive service

Great coffee, fast & friendly service. I'll be coming back here when I have more time to try the breakfast menu!!

Please....A little less noise. Wonderful food , great selection and close to home...However, what a pity when you meet up with friends for a good chat and .......Oh dear, you just cant hear a word they're saying .....SO NOISY..came out with a headache!!

Good eggs. Visited mid-week for breakfast and coffee. Busy with mums and really quite noisy - but quieter once they left. If you appreciate eggs, and can taste the difference - these are the best eggs i have ever had - they sell the eggs they use by the dozen. Simple eggs on toast was yum and well presented.

Usually get my takeaway coffee from here (amidst the rude mothers) until this morning when I saw a staff member pour water into my takeaway cup because she had obviously underestimated how much milk was required to fill the cup. No doubt the coffee was FOUL and I'll never return. Only go if you have too much time on your hands and like disgusting coffee.
Claire
Pretty good coffee, beautiful tasty cakes etc & a lovely but quite small alfresco area. Thumbs up
John
Sterile atmosphere and coffee not great

They really need to fix the service. I've been going to Sissi & Co for a while now, and it's the food that I go back for - it's fresh, delicious, interesting and different to the other cafes around here. <br/><br/>However, one HUGE drawback to this place is their consistently terrible service. Early on I thought that they'd sort that out as they became more established, but if anything, it's gone backwards. The staff are extremely friendly, however they are also extremely disorganised and inefficient. You regularly have to wait an excessive amount of time for items that are already prepared (and just need heating and/or plating) or are just in the fridge - e.g. over 10 minutes for a bottle of orange juice?! And that's not a one off, that's their usual standard! I really wish they would get their act together and fix this aspect of their business, as it's really bringing what is otherwise an excellent place down.

Very unfriendly, waited too long for a coffee that wasn't even nice

Spacious. Variety of food. Friendly staff. Both young and old. Nice outside area. Good milkshakes. Recommended.

Great variety of food, well presented and yummy.

We didn't even get a chance to taste the food. It was 1:45 on a Saturday and they ran out of most everything so they wouldn't let us see a menu. It was a bit strange and it makes me wonder what a whole kitchen is for. Pretty disappointing as I would have loved to give it a try.

Love Sissi & Co and best of all it's local for me. I will definitely be back!

Good!. Finally a place with a little bit of character and individuality. I like what Sissy and Co has to offer. A decent menu, items to purchase, good coffee and good service. The last time I was here I had the schnitzel - the tomato relish was great. My wife had a muffin and coffee - also very good. <br/>Will be back.

Take ear plugs!. Malvern women can talk loud!!! This place has fantastic service & great fit out, menus is limited to a lot of 're heated' items and salads (we arrived at 1pm and salads had been reduced to the choice of one) <br/>Coffee was about 4/10 - I was disappointed as it was my suggestion to my friends to meet there. Sadly I can not say I'll be returning anytime soon which is a shame as its the closest cafe to my new house!

Great healthy food done with loads if flavour and a friendly helpful service. Even the sausage rolls are delicious and come with their own salsa mix which is superb.

Nelly & Georgina you are fabulous. Sorry I'm sick of the word fabulous but these two girls (there are all girls waiting on us here) make the place warm, caring and friendly and in the last 3 weeks I have been 5 times and always feel good here. Love the space, which has lots of space and beautifully set out.<br/><br/>The food is wide ranging and delicious and the coffees can be a little hit and miss but mostly hit and I'm saying that drinking mochas mostly.<br/><br/>You can book on a weekday not sure about weekends. Only hassle I find is the bloody parking in the area, being Stonnington Council's area they are ferocious as far as parking inspectors. Just make sure you do not park in the permit zones or you will be booked ($85). You'd think when a shopping strip has cafes they'd make more parking available in the street, oy!<br/><br/>Doesn't deter me, this is a place I'll be coming regularly to!

Sissi & Co. I recently had breakfast at Sissi whilst visiting from interstate i came across the website online which is gorgeous and thought we should give it a try. It is smaller than I imagined but what a lovely menu, the breakfast of eggs and crispy bacon on sourdough were good, but what really stood out for us was the staff or in particular the waitress that served us on that day she was divine think her name was georgie? She took the time to explain the menu and was prompt with service, nothing was too much trouble, even though the place was getting pretty busy, her smile was so bright, very welcoming on such a dull day in Melbourne, well done Sissi on getting your staff right, we will be back

Went late in afternoon solders out on viewing salads and other foods. Had tea and a mini cake. Ordered a mini flourless orange cake and it was amazing! Took home some chicken liver pate for my husband and I which went down a treat with some wine. Will definitely come again.

Yummiest food!

The food at this place is amazing! My friend and I have eaten breakfast there many times, egg white ommlette is the best I have ever had (and I've had lots!) Lunch is busy, the pies are amazing, there is always a variety of salads which are fresh and change daily. Coffee is great, there are also some pretty impressive cakes, although I don't eat them, they look outstanding.. A must in Malvern.

Don't go on a friday. Have just returned from this cafe and it was extremely busy. The service was very ordinary.? I called the day before to book a table but it was never confirmed. The staff were not impressed with a late booking but maybe they should check their answering service more regulary. It took a long time for meals to come and with a table of 5 mums with their bubs we didn't feel that much attention was payed to us, had they been more organised (rather than taking order for the two outside tables they had) we would have eaten and left promptly. The two small children that were with us waited over an hour for a cupcake and a cookie that didn't need to be heated or anything? Wont be back here in a hurry, well not on a friday anyway!!!

Lovely but not for me. In my opinion, this beautiful place is more suitable for people above 40. The interior is really nice and clean. You will see a lot of colorful cupcakes and the display for stuffs like pies and salad when you walk into the shop. <br/>The a la carte menu is really simple and limited so I decide to order a beef pie and pear salad to taste. My latte is really nice but quite hot. ( I assume that's how most of their customers drink) <br/><br/>However, it takes about 25 mins to get my pie. I'm not sure what is happening with the kitchen but anyway it is a nice pie, flavorsome and the meat is juicy. <br/><br/>I leave this place thinking that well everything here looks nice but it just might not fit my style. In conclusion, I do recommend this place for people above 40 who look for a beautiful cafe on Malvern rd and anyone who just want a light meal. For those who love something more adventure and more imaginative on food, this place is not for you.

Great food and a great atmosphere. You can tell its run by a real "foodie". The providore linked to it is even better, you can get all that amazing food as take home meals and treats, perfect for when I just have no time, oh and the staff seem lovely too. All round great asset to the area.

WHY?????????. Discovered Sissi the other day after gym - great place. Took my husband there this glorious sunny Sunday morning for brunch to discover they were closed...what? - and next door to a nursery too!!!!!! It's one of quite a few decent cafes in that strip of Malvern Rd (Thread, Mr Foxx) but the only on the sunny side of the street, so very disappointing. Can't find a list of their opening hours on the net either.

Great new addition. This wonderful new place had been open since late last year but I have to admit I have only be frequenting there for the last month or so. Sissi & Co. is making the best lunches in the area... Regularly changing healthy salads that are as tasty as much as they are good for you! Great selection of patties, terrines, frittatas, soups & other lunch items to keep me smiling. Seriously yummo foods that are good portion size for lunch (i.e not stingey but not overwhelming either!) Sissi also has a great section next door that sells pre-prepared meals and take away packs - all variations on stuff they serve in the cafe. I can highly recommend the freshly made chocolate brownies for something sweet to go with the consistently well made coffee.

The layout of Sissi & Co is open and white - exactly my mother's taste. The food was simple, but somehow seemed more wholesome knowing the entire list of ingredients was on the little paper description. By the end of the day, there were only a few vegetarian options. I went for the baked ricotta and the cous cous salad. I have always found baked ricotta a little strange when I see it in recipe books. Why would anyone want to bake fresh cheese? And then why would one want to eat a whole slab of cheese as if it were a pie? But with little options, I was open to finally try it. The ricotta was served warm and seemed to be more like tofu in texture. The f
