We had the most incredible seafood platter we've ever had! Totally recommend it plus squid ink ravioli with crab meat. Once you eat into it a raw egg is released into the blure Blanc sauce a Masterchef experience!
Thank you Angela your restaurant rocks😘
From the moment we walked in the warm greeting and service was lovely. As it was our first time and we came before the crowd, the owner showed us around and gave us a choice of tables. The menu was hard to choose from - it all sounded amazing, so we ordered the seafood platter for 2, for a variety of dishes. Many times when I've ordered a seafood platter at other restaurants I've been disappointed. But this was absolutely incredible! Every part of the platter was fresh as fresh could be and full of flavour. We may be a little weird, but my husband and I actually got a little teary at how wonderful the food was. It touched our hearts. Paired with a wonderful Pinot Gris and followed by a melt in your mouth Banoffee Pie, we left for a twilight walk along the beach to talk about how wonderful the meal was and how happy we felt. I've never put up a review like this on any restaurant, hotel or experience before. This was a whole lot of magic and we will be returning.

If I could have taken photos, I would have (but I’m not that guy!!!)
Don’t be fooled by this unassuming looking place from the outside on a corner of a manly back street....
We weren’t fooled, and the food was nothing short of amazing.
I almost got into trouble with her husband at one point (not really) however, I’m sure she flirts with all the guys!
The menu was not enormous, but I would not want that to put anyone off, a smaller menu is the sign of a good restaurant and there is something for everyone. Definitely worth every cent.
The king fish entree was amazing, and so was the beef short rib.
Finishing that off with bannoffee dessert - the perfect menu.
Absolutely no complaints here, and if you go - do try the lavender cocktail!
I’d like to thank Ange (and the staff there) who were very attentive, and provided a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere in the eatery which was her home. She didn’t even need a notepad to take our order... also the sign of an excellent eating establishment in my eyes!
All good fun, I just hope she remembers us next time, will definitely be back when in the area.
A busy bustling friendly restaurant in my local town, we tried to do a walk in but that was a no no, finally we managed to book and get to see what all the fuss was about, Glad we did, pre dinner drinks were a Pomegranate Margarita, and a JD on coke, with a 5 star rating for both, my better half says the Magarita was a highlight for her!, having just returned from a 5 star trip to Thailand, with cocktails aplenty i think thats a deserving compliment. My JD was very ample.....hiccup!
Our meals arrived, we took the tip of Rod Walsh to try the morton bay bugs, and they were the most delicately cooked crustaceans i have tasted in this country.... simple and beautiful, meat was soft and fluffy and fell into our mouths, congratulations.
Our mains consisted of the baby snapper, which reached our expectations and the Salmon, served on a Polenta pea base.....the surprise here was the blue vein run thru the Polenta, Very very very noice! haha.
We bought along a bottle of Chenin Blanc to accompany the seafood and it was fantastic also....
Unfortunately we had to bolt for the door so we had to skip desert, however I've no doubt that it would have been just as memorable
Beautiful meal guys, great atmosphere, and well priced, Rod and Angie are taking the place by storm, recommend a visit and we have every intention of making our return trip, with entourage ASAP.
This is the first review i have ever written for a restaurant, but would like to finish by saying two words : Highly recommended!
Have this place a go based on recommendations and it definitely didn’t disappoint! The service was 5 Star from the moment we walked in until the moment we left and every course was perfection. Absolutely recommend this place to anyone wanting a great dining experience
Fantastic night! Shared the seafood platter and couldn’t be more impressed with the freshness, variety and taste. Wait staff equally as impressive. Can’t wait to return.
The seafood platter was amazing. One of the best I've ever had! I really recommend The Herring Room
We love this place!! The food is delicious and it has a lovely atmosphere, very homely. The staff are wonderful too and always make us feel so welcome! We come back time and time again for these reasons and are never disappointed. Highly recommend it!!
Loved the Elderton wine dinner last night. I have always heard good things about The Herring Room and you delivered. Can't wait to come back and try the regular menu. Fabulous room, food, wine and staff.
Absolutely delicious food and yummy cocktails. Great ambiance and great service.
Third time here and we'll definitely be back. Traveling from Maroubra is worth it.
Thanks Angela & staff for another amazing night.
Our food was amazing! Highlights were the squid ink and egg yolk ravioli entree, and the banoffe pie desert. The service was awesome - super friendly and helpful. We will be recommending this place to everyone. Thanks for a great night.
Fabulous New Year's Eve lunch, here. The salmon appetizer was delicious as was the tartare and the muscles. We saved room for the Banoffee pie - TDF! We would (will!) return. :) Thank you, Georgie, our waitress, and Happy New Year!
We are relatively frequent diners at the Herring room and we keep coming back because of the great food and the awesome service we receive. It has been used by us for intimate dinners, dinners with friends and family celebrations with 10 - 12. Love their wine list, cocktails as well or that you can bring a bottle or two of your own.
My wife and I love this place. We have stayed in Manly for the last couple of years to celebrate our anniversary and last year stumbled upon this exquisite establishment by chance. We returned this year and it was like catching up with an old friend. The welcome from the moment you enter is warm and personable. You are guided through the liquor list with reassurance and attentiveness. The food is an absolute delight. We love this place.
A thoroughly satisfying experience all round! I gobbled it all up without remembering to take a photo (oops) ...
We had a couple of delectable cocktails on arrival then shared the squid ink & egg yolk ravioli (wow!) and then the squid with harissa followed by the salmon and the Dory mains - delightful!
Great venue, vibe and service - counting the days to our return again for some more :-)
We ate at the Herring Room for the first time on the week-end. The service was excellent and the food was even better! Really enjoyed the atmosphere, friend staff and great menu.
One of the best dining experiences I have had. The food was amazing and abundant, the ambiance and service was amazing. The staff were equivalent to that of fine dining staff, friendly, professional and welcoming. A hidden gem on the outskirts of Manly. The deep fried snapper was a work of art. Do you self a big favour and go at least once.
Visited the herring room for lunch on Sunday and the was amazing! For entree I ordered mussels in a puttanesca sauce w olives and anchovies which had amazing flavour and for main I had crispy skinned barramundi. All the food was amazing.
I love this place, such a cool design just outside the craziness of the Manly precinct on Pittwater Rd.
I always start with the squid ink, egg yolk ravioli and a glass of Chardonnay.
The wine selection is pretty epic and the wait staff know their stuff.
The menu has quite a few influences on it, which shows how creative the kitchen staff are.
What a wonderful surprise to find a restaurant of this quality on Pittwater Road in Manly! Usually this kind of restaurant comes with a view in this neighbourhood but here the focus is all on the seafood! "Would you like some gambaretti to start!?" Well, we are in Manly, it is a balmy Saturday evening and I can't think of a single reason why not! Entrees included steamed prawn and bug wontons and squid ink and egg ravioli. Both amazingly constructed colourful dishes! For mains the seared sesame crusted kingfish with soba noodles and the seared ocean trout with eggplant purée and fattoush salad were both delightful and delicious Can't wait to return....We're hooked! ⚓️
Stunning restaurant. Booked a table through Zomato with instant confirmation. Easy 10-minute walk from Manly wharf. Restaurant is gorgeous, rustic and cosy. Lovely atmosphere. Service was perfect - waitresses were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable in the menu. Had the oysters and squid for entree, then blue eye cod and venison for mains. All were delicious, beautiful and fresh seafood, well cooked, well seasoned and full of flavour. Big serving sizes. Good cocktails and wine menu. Pricey, but worth it for the quality of food and service. Highly recommend.
Amazing food & equally amazing hospitality. This is how a restaurant should be ran. The sashimi looked top notch, the snapper & Thai sauce excellent.
I had a work off-site last week, and one of the restaurants we dined at was The Herring Room. It had a nice and rustic room setting and the restaurant was intimate and clean.
The cocktails list was generous and I ordered an Elderflower cocktail which was very good. My team ordered oysters and other assortments of entrees which were pleasant.
I ordered the Mulloway and Rhubarb as a main. It wasn't the best flavour combination, I felt the Mulloway was overdone and the Rhubarb was too sweet to combine with the fish flavour.
Nevertheless the desserts came our after mains and I really enjoyed the chocolate cake and the banoffee pie. The restaurant was very patient and service was fantastic. They let us stay until 11pm which was very polite of them. One of the nicer restaurants in Manly I would say.
Lovely setting and superb service. Perfectly made cocktails and interesting wine selection. We tried a variety of smaller dishes rather than the mains, mussels were a stand out in gorgeous light and not too overpowering Thai coconut broth. Scallops were also perfectly cooked, the wantons I found a tad heavy. Great venue will b back next time in Manly
The wontons, the ravioli and the baby snapper are really stunning. I think The Herring Room could benefit by trimming some other items from their large and ambitious menu. And sourcing their craft beers from more than just one brewery would be good too
Absolutely love this place. We're welcomed like old friends whenever we go, the food is delicious (the whole baby snapper is just wow) and to top it all off, it's BYO. Love.
Up-market but relaxed dining experience with delicious food, beautiful decor and good service. Highly recommend the squid ink ravioli and red snapper, what an impressive dish!
This restaurant is just stunning. The food is some of the best I have enjoyed in such a long time. Perfect balance of flavours and the presentation is awesome. The squid ink ravioli seriously blew my mind. Ange is the best host and makes u feel welcome and like an old friend. We will be back soon! Thanks so much for a lovely Easter Sunday lunch. 🐣🐰😋
Located just out of the hustle & bustle of Manly centre is the Herring Room. What a gem. If your looking for somewhere a little special to enjoy some quality seafood dishes, this is the place for you. The staff go above and beyond and the food speaks for itself - fresh & flavoursome. Top marks to the team at Herring Room!

Take a trip over the bridge for amazing seafood at The Herring Room. Try the flavour packed Indian spiced prawns or the incredible smoked rainbow trout but whatever else you do, order the braised rabbit stifado with potato gnocchi!
Very Nice atmosphere, good and quick service, interesting dishes, all dishes were nicely cooked however everything was lucking a bit of flavour
In continuing on our fun filled journey of wine, wine, a little bit more wine and food from Saturday night with the boys, Gazbo and James, our final destination before Gary fell asleep, James rockstarred a taxi and I wept for bed was The Herring Room in Manly for our main dinner, our feast de la resistance. James is a local here and in the only eight weeks The Herring Room has been opened he appears to have visited weekly and is now on a first name basis with staff and singing Happy Birthdays to random guests upon the request of the staff.
Fantastic new Manly restaurant - high quality food, fantastic service and a great transformation of the surf shop to chic restaurant. BYO option too!
Great to have another high quality restaurant in Manly.
After looking at Manly as best we could, it was time to find an appropriate restaurant for our review. Of course, this must have been a seafood place. Pretty soon, the decision was made on "The Herring Room". The service was fantastic. Very accommodating and friendly with great recommendations, even though she took care of every table on her own. The food was really delicious. Now I have to say that we have been pretty disappointed in Sydney until now, but here the taste, the preparation was really perfect. In short, an excellent restaurant with excellent cuisine!
Amazing food, service and ambiance. What a fabulous experience at the Herring Room, we have already booked our next dinner. Ang, Rod and Joey could not have done anything more for us and the food was spectacular, our new favourite in Manly.
The service is so good that it alone deserves a 5 star. The owner greets you at the door and makes sure everything is perfect. The food is amazing and the 5 course degustation with salmon, scallop, duck, octopus and desert will not disappoint.
Tucked in away from the main beach but not too far away either. Sitting on a lang originally owned by the Guringai people, the oldest surviving continuous culture in the world.
The Herring Room proudly list the provenance of all its seafood, selecting only the highest quality from sustainable & environmentally sensitive fisheries. All our seafood is sourced locally from Australia & New Zealand, & is matched w the best of local, seasonal & sustainable produce, supporting our wonderful Australian farmers & producers.
My second time here and I enjoyed it again as much as the first time. Things to try: degustation menu! Fantastic WA scallops and octopus, tender duck breast cooked to perfection and special semifredo dessert. Great service with a smile and very cosy interior design.
What an experience! Thank you so much The Herring Room for an amazing night. We ordered the seafood platter which was amazing! Huge serving jam packed with fresh flavours. The whole snapper in particular is a knock out dish.
Super friendly, helpful staff and the maître d was dynamo (I didn’t catch your name but thank you for being so accommodating, warm and welcoming).
The restaurant also has a great atmosphere and many people around us celebrating birthdays and made to feel special. Great night!
Hi Herring Room,
Our anniversary dinner was simply the best!!
You took great care of us and we knew you were down on staff, however nothing was going to stop you all making us feel comfortable and special.
Our waitress "ROSE" was a knockout, knew her menu inside out! All of you were always smiling, happy and attentive, even though you were down on staff. The food was sublime, cocktails magnificent and wine choices sensational. We left the evening on an absolute high and rate you an eleven out of ten!!
Thank you
Adrian & Sue
Had a wonderful birthday experience at the Herring Room recently. Large group(10+) and we were allocated a separate room with a group menu that included a number of choices for entree, main course and dessert. The food and wine served were, without exception, excellent and we also enjoyed some fine wines from their wide selection. The service was outstanding and all the staff made us feel very welcome. Highly recommended.
