Review Manly 16ft Skiff Sailing Club - Manly

THE GOOD CHOICES
If U love sailing good food and historical landmarks this is one of the best Manly has to offer go have a look tell me I'm wrong.

Loved everything about it except the noise level. I don't think any thought had been put into the acoustics. If you're happy yelling at the other people at your table, fine. The food was absolutely excellent, though once again there was a dearth of non carnivore options. You can order from the table which helps because it's absolutely packed on the weekend. If you have access issues, this may not be the spot for you. Once inside all is fine, but getting in is the problem. Do not assume you'll get parking. Best to use public transport(which will result in a gorgeous walk around the cove), ride shares or taxis.

The skiff club has the best view of Manly, right on the water, where you can watch the ferries roll in and the yachts bob on the water while you enjoy some top nosh and a refreshing drink. Spend all afternoon here with friends and it will be the highlight of your week.

We had a booking for 6 people for lunch. We arrived and the staff at reception were so organised and friendly. Once inside our table was marked with my name in a great position. The menu was a great selection and so easy to order and again staff efficient and friendly. The bar was easy and accessible to purchase drinks and staff efficient and friendly. Our party of 6 all ordered different foods and they came out together in a timely and efficient manner. We later ordered coffees and again all came out together. The food was delicious. There is nothing I could fault with the Club at all. Great location looking out on the harbour and Manly. Needless to say we had an enjoyable afternoon. Thank you so much.

not very impressed after we went for dinner a month ago, birthday person chose salt and pepper squid and nearly had a heart attack because it was too salted. i tried and had to remove the crumbing to have a few. others tried it too and were shocked. informed the waiter. didn't get to hear back. emailed the skiff club. didn't hear back either. when the order came, mine wasn't included. I had to get up and see with the kitchen what happened to it (i thought there was an understanding that when the waiters take your number off the table, they also check if everyone has had their food?). my plate was ready, they just didn't know what to do with it, and where it needed to go. oh well, that was a one-off experience that we need to cross off our list of places to go to if they can't rectify such an issue. another place with an issue on the order/food gave us an instant cash refund. i guess the skiff doesn't care about customers that much after all. disappointing.

A great restaurant serving quality food fast. The view from the dining area is stunning! The sea breeze was incredible on the warm day also. They have a few options for vegetarians. There is a reasonable wine list, and their cocktails are great. The price was quite reasonable given the location, and waterfront views

This place is great, the staff are so good. Other venues should take note as it’s rare these days to actually experience good service at a club. The manager is excellent, and is on the ball, the security are professional and friendly, and the rest of the team are good too. The views and food are great too. All in all a great local.

Had dinner there with the wife tonight, Booked for 6:30 PM but got there about 6:10 - table was already reserved with our name so we could sit straight down overlooking the water. Food was not bad value as was mainly seafood and plenty of it with big servings. I had the salt and pepper squid entree and the beer batter fish and chips and we ended up taking some home in a box provided by the kitchen as could not finish it all. Entrees were ready promptly and they staggered the arrival times of the mains and all the food was tasty and enjoyable. Crowd was a mix of young and old all having a good time and was a pleasant environment, staff were friendly, the security guy at the front desk provided a lovely welcome :) and the view of the water over to Manly pier was fabulous with a golden sunset. was a fantastic evening.

We have been here several times and always found it a pleasant casual experience. The food is above average for a club , well presented and the staff are obliging . The live music is a great addition on the weekend and the view is beautiful . Nothing not to like . Thank you

The food and inside service is really good, however, one night we came for dinner with some friends and were treated very poorly by security at front door. If I hadn’t been here before and eaten the food , I would have turned around and not given them my service.

Always a lovely spot for lunch, great food, venue and beautiful sunshine to top it off. Love this place.

A rare visit over this way. Pretty crowded but prompt meal service with attentive staff. Meals were good - what you would expect for a club. A great spot to visit by/on the water.

Had dinner there last night with visitors from overseas, venue and views excellent however meals very poor chicken snitzel inedible sea food basket calamari inedible and tasted of cinnamon! Salad accompanying the salmon not fresh lettuce was black patrons at adjoining table drunk language disgusting responsible service of alcohol obviously not enforced

We love visiting the Skiff. The atmosphere is welcoming, drinks and food lovely and the view over the water is just lovely. Can't think of a better place to enjoy time with family and friends.

Our son is a member and we are currently visiting him from the UK. Visited the club twice since we've been here and can only say it is fantastic every way....food, prices, view...what a view with the setting over the city. Probably be back again before we leave in a couple of weeks.

We attended the New Year's Eve 2016 function. What was described as "Canapes all night" turned out to be the most sumptuous of finger foods. The freshest king prawns and oysters far exceeded our expectations. The Cook Islands singers and dancers were a treat!!!
Amanda Delgaty
Love this place! Great food, wine, view and service is always with a smile. Keep it up Skiffy!!!

Great food if you can get a table and don’t have ignorant people standing in the corridors. Need let everyone book tables not just a select few
Craig Scotcher
Our favourite place for lunch food is excellent & reasonably priced and the staff are great

We hired the function room for our work Christmas party. Everything was exceptional. The view is outstanding, The staff were amazing and the food was delicious. Couldn't of asked for more. We enjoyed it so much we have hired it again this year!!
Richard Michael
Great spot! The club looks and feels so welcoming. Lunch was enjoyable and was reasonably priced. The only negative is the parking situation, however that's not the clubs fault! Next time I'll have to come by ferry and make a great day of it. Well done Manly Skiff Club!

Honestly I expected more from this place.<br/>I’ve been there on Friday, inside was pretty busy, outside on the terrace was more quiet. It would have been nice going there earlier, I’m sure there’s a beautiful sunset view.<br/>Food disappointed me. We ordered “Seafood basket”, with prawns, oysters, calamari, battered fish, chunky tartare sauce and “Orecchiette”, with slow braised lamb ragu, grilled eggplant, marinated feta. We waited long time and our dishes were cold, I guess they forgot them. My pasta was a big portion but I didn’t like the combination of flavours.<br/>While I was eating I felt a hairy animal moving around my feet, I thought it was a dog, but looking under the table I found out it was the biggest rat I’ve ever seen in my life! I found it very cute, but I don’t think everyone else would have had my same thought.
Gee
Probably the best meal I’ve had so far in Sydney. Salads were fresh, the baked haloumi was delish, steak and calamari were juicy and tasty. Definitely would go back!

Great place to go for a drink or lunch. Beautiful on a sunny day on the deck. The food is pretty standard but enjoyable. Great to go with a group of friends.

You need to carry your identity card as proof of age to enter here as they serve alcohol. In terms of bar , a regular decent bar with good variety of wine and beers. Food is also decent , we had lamb and fish preparation. Best thing about the place is its next to water beach which gives to a perfect feeling. Nice place to try for a group hangout or a family outing

Loved it! Great atmosphere on a sunny day! Food is really good and portions are very generous. Attentive and efficient staff. Great music and most of all great views! Don’t forget to bring your ID with you
Hayley
Nice to head to the Skiff club when the sun's out. Nice view on the deck with water views. Huge menu with something for everyone. Had the vegetarian pizza and Salmon salad, they were both very satisfying.

What a beautiful afternoon at the Manly Skiff Club! It's a Friday and we head on down for dinner with the 2 kids (under 4 years old). It was packed but we found a table with water views. Bookings are recommended, so we got lucky. We had the seafood plates and the kids had battered fish with pan fried greens, which are just beans but taste great all the same. With a glass of Sauvignon Blanc or two, it was perfect. If we weren't from out of town, we'd be back regularly!
Matt Gerritsma
One of the best views around and, surprisingly, a good menu to boot. <br/><br/>Been here a couple of times now and have been stoked on each occasion. Definitely more than what you'd expect from the local surf club board of fare.
Rosie Mansfield
Probably one of Manly's best kept secrets from the tourists. Grab your ID and enjoy a brand new menu, affordable tipples and divine sailing boats setting off out to sea.

I was invited to attend one of the finalist Chef’s Table dinner at Manly 16ft Skiff Sailing Club on 17 May 2016 with a few distinguished guests including the Mayor of Manly, Jean Hay. This is one of 20 finalists dinners being held in Sydney for the Chef’s Table Competition held by Club NSW which was created to reward and recognise the many talented chefs, cooks and apprentices in NSW clubs. We’re not talking about the usual chicken schnitzel or hamburger with fries. This keenly contested competition is a unique way to showcase the club’s chefs’ culinary talents and to promote their venue as a true dining destination. I don’t about you but club food seems to be a pretty good dining experience these days, if not better than some restaurants in Sydney, a testament to the creative talents in the club kitchen. One of them is Brooks Mayman Executive Chef of Manly 16ft Skiff Sailing Club whom I met when I visited Manly 16ft Skiff Sailing Club the first time last year and was pretty blown away by the quality of food and creativity that Brooks comes up with in the kitchen. What he creates is quality I have seen in hotel and fine dining restaurants.  Brooks invited me to his finalist dinner where himself and his sous chef, Timirkumar Patel, sought to impress the judges with their three course menu creations based on a very tight brief featuring feature five pantry ingredients, including rabbit and a native Australian ingredient. I can’t say I would jump to order a rabbit dish if it was on a Club NSW menu (as rabbit is not my favourite meats) but if it was the fresh seafood dish like the entrée they presented and the dessert then happy to have that again any day.On an ordinary business as usual day though,  Brooks and his kitchen team without constraints cooks up some amazing high quality dishes and Manly Skiff 16ft Sailing Club is one of those venues I would happily lounge around watching the yachts and grazing on some of Brook’s delicious food from their menu. If you have been following me on Instagram, you would have seen some of Brook's dishes I've posted. Well done,  Brooks and Timirkumar – I hope you win the finals! If you are interested in attending the Club NSW Awards Dinner, tickets are available from their website. It’s on Monday, 25 July 2016 at The Epping Club, Grand Ballroom, 45 Rawson Street, Epping. Tickets to the 2016 Chef’s Table Awards Dinner includes Chef’s selection of hot and cold canapés and pre-dinner drinks on arrival; a three-course meal, wine, beer and soft drinks; entertainment competition highlights and finalist clubs; crowning the 2016 Chef’s Table Gold, Silver, Bronze Winners and the Apprentice Award.

The prawns are succulent and fresh with full flavour and perfectly complemented by the tangy seafood sauce. The oysters are creamy with an intense salty burst of the sea flavour. The calamari is light and beautiful, retaining its full flavour while the octopus retains the smoky flavour of the grill. The perfect start to lunch.

Deck bistro is sliding. The bistro meals keep on going down hill - the last 2 meals have been refunded by management - last time I ordered a wagyu beef burger (I thought the chef can't get that wrong surely?) and it was uncooked in the middle - "the chef cooks it that way" according to management...<br/>If you just want a plate of chips with your beer, then this place is fine.

Good & bad. I've eaten there twice. The first time was great - good food and lovely setting. The 2nd time - not so good. I shared a prawn basket with a cousin and it would have been better called a "chip basket" as it had some shrivelled calamari, a couple of oyster, minimal chips and was packed out with chips. Not my best meal! I was quite embarrassed that I had recommended the place and chosen the meal. <br/>Sue.

Bad lunch. Disappointing lunch today - $30 steak and $22 salad both served with less than fresh ingredients and steak way over cooked.<br/>Service is also very lacking.<br/>Many nicer places in Manly for the money.

Not impressed. Waited in line to order for 30 minutes then waited an hour and half for my meal to be ready. Food was average.

This is as Aussie as it gets. One of the best locations in Sydney harbour for beer with great friends. The fair is excellent as well. If you are a visitor to Sydney, front up and sign in as a temp member.

When things get a bit too much (for any reason) at Wharf Bar come here for cheaper beers, as good a view, less 'to be seen crowd' and top notch salt and pepper squid (amongst other great eats).
