Review Hemingway's - Manly

A unique cafe ☕️ in Manly beach. Croissant 🥐 is amazing 🤩. It’s delicious and yummy. The best Croissant I have ever tried. Fries 🍟 is great too. It’s great to have an outdoor seating and enjoy a good cup of coffee in Hermingway’s Manly. Love it 🥰

Very hearty dishes. Everything comes with baguette, just can't get enough of it

This was the most amazing breakfast i’ve ever had! It was absolutely delicious and i could not recommend it enough. staff were so polite and the food was quite literally to die for. me and my partner finished our plates with no leftovers in sight (which is rare for us). if your in manly PLEASE check them out and i promise you won’t be disappointed!!

On Manly beach this is a popular cafe with a French inspired menus. Seating outdoors and inside with a library of course, for the book lovers. Recently around February 2022 this restaurant was refurbished, still much the same, with a new menus. The dishes we had were next level delicious, would have been good to have some bread to soak up the tasty sauce. Also expect to pay a bit more from the old menu, but worth it.

BEST BREAKFAST EVER !!!! food was incredible and so was service. very little wait time and the most delicious feast you could imagine. my partner and i both finished our meals which says a lot as i rarely ever do. we will 100% be returning to hemingway’s!

Delicious food. Very friendly manager.

How can you beat this!? Great hospitality from the hosts. I’ll come that seafood stew next time 😉

Great place to take in the lovely view of the ocean in the sun and people watch. Couple that with helpful staff and excellent food. A great place you have there. The burger was fantastic, and the tomato relish added something different. Keep it up.

I used to have lunch here when visiting Manly. I have to say that recently the service has been appauling! Despite being acknowledged by the waitress when she walked past me with dishes the menu didn't arrive. After 10 minutes of waiting i walked out. On a previous visit, i chased up the menu but a customer just shouldn't have to do this; I won't be back.

and so, the night is like this... I watch the Tasman Sea get angry - the grey of the sky loses the horizon to the grey of the sea. Only the wild whitecaps break the monotony of that loss of colour. I slip into Hemingway's, a Manly beachfront bar and order a Mediterranean pizza and a schooner of Cooper's. The music is the definition of my being young - Cat Stevens, Donovan and Neil Young. The food was good, the beer was good. the music was good and the day, as it submitted to a stormy night was best of all.

Great reputation. Beautiful place. Wonderful staff. But, 'toasted muesli' must've been left out for a couple of days to go stale as ... , salmon crepe was runny and raw on the inside, toasted ham and tomato was soggy. Sad but true.

Great lunch sat watching the ocean and the world go by, great vibe in an awesome location, the staff were super nice and provided excellent service. Even Alfie, our dog, was looked after with bacon bits and some cold water. You could do a lot worse in life than to head down to Hemingways and heed the words on the back of the staff t-shirts.

I was only in and out, but service was fast and very friendly. The Croque Madame was spectacular, a truly excellent breakfast. The only minor (purely constructive) criticism I have: the coffee seemed a bit rushed even though they weren't really very busy, bubbles in the milk. It tasted great though so it doesn't warrant taking away a star, just something to think about.

Lovely position and outlook with friendly staff so nice to have dog bowls for our fur babies as a halfway stop on our walk while we enjoyed breakfast, coffee and the best smashed avo

Quinoa and kale salad with chicken is definitely one of my fav', staff is very nice and the place is amazing! Tried the new cocktail menu and it is bomb, you should give it a go!!

We recieved very poor service this afternoon. The waitress was very rude and didnt care less. Our second order of wine was way less in our glass to the first and that wasnt much in the first place. Still payed same price. I thought an ice coffee consist of ice blended in milk and coffee with icecream and whipped cream to finish with. Not a cold watery coffee with a few cubes of melted ice and a scoop of icecream in a sml glass. The table text to us their or was forgotten by this same waitress and we observed her just dumping another customers drinks away from them and walking away not letting them know. These people were sittin at the bench seats.

Great food, excellent coffee, and epic view. My son Nathanael and I enjoyed our brunch immensely when we visited Hemingway's Manly on a 12-hour layover a couple weeks back on the way to New Zealand.

Just happened to come across Hemingway's when walking in the rain at Manly. Looked so inviting we stopped for coffee and breakfast. The coffee was great and the food was wonderful. The service from the friendly staff was wonderful. Thank you.

Definitely the opción for lunch on Sunday, really cozy place and magnificent service plus environmental friendly! Love it !
David Bell
Love this place its my local. BUT please, please, please sort out your staff. Half are awesome and the other half don't have a clue refusing to serve you if you are not sitting in their area while three other staff just stand by gazing aimlessly into thin air.
Ivana Luehnova
Very nice place with a special atmosphere - all the books around make it very cosy. Friendly staff, good beer and wine :)

Worst dirty chai and really poor customer service. Would not recommend...

The Bloody Mary was actually the nicest I have had in years and the chicken nuggets were ridiculously tasty!! Excellent service and a view of the beach... what more could you want!! Would highly recommend it 😊

I visited this amazing place during the Christmas break. This place has my heart. The best hot chocolate and chicken nuggets I have ever had! Loved the location and the food! A must visit.. highly recommend! The vibe of this place is so warm! Loved it!

Ordered a croque monsieur and what came out was a below par sandwich with 3 bits of plastic cheese inside, a slice of cheap ham and one slice of plastic cheese melted on top. I returned it, absolutely shocked that they would serve that. I got some sweet potato chips in replacement which took ages to come out and were nearly all undercooked so I didn’t eat it and we left.

Awful breakfast, they’ve no idea/flare. Got a ‘Baked Eggs’ item - was Heinz baked beans, a fried hash brown (Coles type) ontop, a fried egg (fried!), and some bacon not cooked in the middle - placed into the cast iron pan. They’ve no idea. Why even use a cast iron pan to present it. Awful.
Mrs_ox_qtn
Unfortunately this place was underwhelming. Great view and location though! Waitresses were not friendly and meal was not as per the menu and not what I’d expect at a 4.2 rated restaurant. Asked the waitress if I could please have some rocket as per the menu. She said the menu had changed. Mesclun? Went to the kitchen to ask and then came back to say they’d run out and walked away.

Super nice and relaxing restaurant by the beach! Loved their cauliflower nuggets and chicken nuggets. We also got the mussels and cassoulet which were both quite good.

I happened to notice this restaurant. The name and cozy atmosphere caught me when I was crossing the road. <br/> The menu was brilliant. I didn’t know why the waiter gave me a book. Inside of the book, there were menus of beverages.<br/> I ordered Hemingway’s cup 2.0 and a steak. Hemingway’s cup 2.0 has nice visual and taste. I am not fond of drinking alcohol but I liked it. <br/> The Steak was good enough even though there was a sinew in it. Side salad was good as well. I was disappointed with side salads hundreds of times, but this time I wasn’t. It suited the steak.<br/> I have got to mention chilly sauce. If there is a award of sauce, the chef deserves it. It was a perfect sauce for chips. The waiter explained that the chef made mayonnaise herself or himself and mixed it with something I couldn’t remember. I could not stop eating chips with the sauce. When I finished my chips, I ordered extra chips to finish the sauce. <br/> I was starving. So I wondered whether It affected me. However, the chips with the chilly sauce were still ‘finger-lickingly’ good after I finished the stake and a chicken nugget that I ordered later.<br/> Foods were not that salty. Actually, foods in Australia were too salty for me. So I had been a little bit disappointed with the foods. But foods were as salty as they are necessary.<br/> Above all, the crew was so friendly. One of the waiters who said he worked for years tried to have a friendly chat with customers. He served me an extra sauce to take out after I said that I liked it.<br/> It is the first time in my life that I wrote any review on a restaurant in online. I could not but do it. <br/>
Bruna Vallim

Hemingway’s is a French-Australian cafe which offers an assortment of traditional French cuisine and beachside nibbles. The two-storey bar-cafe features shelves filled with leather covered books and dark wooden tables with velvety couches. <br/><br/>Like what several reviewers have noted, their signature chicken nuggets, served with spicy mayo, were not great. The chicken breast nibbles were overfried and undermarinated. The bland, dry and hard nuggets were simply unpalatable and even the flavoursome spicy mayo could not save them from absolute disaster.

We were seated upstairs which was nice and cost for a rainy Saturday morning. Our waiter had English as a second language so we had to try explain our order a little more. We also tried to order some drinks at a later stage which got forgot because I think they were busy. The meals tasted alright but I'm not in a rush to go back.

Sitting outside on a sunny day is always a pleasure at Hemingway's with its location right opposite the beach, just off the Corso. Having said that, inside (as you may expect from the name) the shop is adorned with books and trinkets that give this place a bit of a, literacy feel ;-)<br/><br/>The coffees that I have ordered here have been quite hit-and-miss but food-wise, I would recommend their Cauliflower Nuggets. <br/><br/>It's also a nice place to go a for an alcoholic beverage, if you're not feeling like the pub, or a drunken crowd. <br/><br/>Or if you're feeling like a laid back afternoon, there are a few board-games strewn around which the staff are more than happy for you to use, if not encouraged. <br/><br/>I'm yet to visit Hemingways on a night out (which I hear they are doing?) - when that happens, I'll be sure to be back!

We went here for breakfast... The food was fine but nothing to write home about. Very friendly staff, but not a very kid-friendly place. Might go back to check out the dinner menu.

Went here for breakfast... Not very kid-friendly but very lovely staff. The food was nice but nothing to write home about. Might give the place another go to check out the dinner menu.

Food quality is decent to say the least. Sat outside watching the beach on a cold sunny day. Food was a great accompaniment to the beach view and people watching. <br/>Had the kale salad and salt pepper squid, with the fish and chips. <br/>Kale salad 3.5/5.<br/>Salt pepper squid 3.5/5.<br/>Fish and chips 3/5.<br/>Interior of the place is a good library/rustic feel.<br/>

the pulled pork burger was really good with a large portion although it was a bit wet since there was too much gravy with it😕 but the overall flavours were good! the chicken nuggets were scrumptious😍

So i ordered a flat white as I do everywhere, My mistake i forget i was no longer in Melbourne! I think they may have forget to add the Coffee, but maybe that’s my Coffee Snob’ness’ coming out. It was hot and drinkable, not worth a shot though as no latte art was considered. The orange Juice was nice though.

we went to Hemingway's for brunch on a wednesday afternoon while visiting sydney. we chose it because of the rating and the location. the location was good. however the staff was not very friendly and the service was very slow. a burger and a salad took 30 minutes. the burger however was delicious. the quinoa and chicken salad was quite tasteless and dry.

Ordered: food/cauliflower nuggets, roasted mushrooms on toast drinks/sweet cheeks & up beet<br/><br/>Goods<br/><br/>- Good qaulity food in sizable portions enough for 2 people per main plate<br/>- A variety of foods and drinks catering to healthy and no so health conscious eaters <br/>- Upbeat and friendly staff. Up for a talk which is always nice <br/>- Location: less than a 20 seconds walk to the beach front. Ideal location for a sit down meal. Plenty of parking and great for people watching <br/>- easy to find area <br/><br/>Bads<br/><br/>- Meals needed more sauces ( cauliflower nugget sauce and pesto on the mushroom meal) <br/>- Cramped spaces and a lot of foot traffic<br/>- expect to wait if you arrive during peak hours <br/><br/>Cafe oozed out good vibes. Very chilled out area and typical beachy cafe for manly. Food, drinks, views, staff.. it was all a great experience. Will come again. <br/><br/>

I visited this cafe in Manly recently purely because we saw a lot of people waiting for it so we thought it must be good. It has a really homely and intellectual style interior, very relaxing feels. In terms of food, we ordered the grilled mushroom on toast, salmon crepes, chicken burger, fish and chips and truffle fries! They all tasted pretty delicious. My favourite would have to be the truffle fries and the salmon crepes 👌🏼 Prices were reasonable as well, so i would recommend for sure! One downside was the guy served us was slightly rude, but the other girls were nice!<br/><br/>For more updated foodie adventures, please follow my instagram: @pignic_<br/>And blog reviews at: nicozee.wordpress.com

Hemingway's is my main man. Everything on the menu is great. They make excellent coffee here so make sure you grab a drink. Also grab a chocolate croissant if you're lucky enough to be there when there's one left! The banana bread is a must have too. Like I said you can't go wrong here!
Funk Leberry
The positive reviews are broadly well-deserved, although my wife found the brown porridge somewhat unappetising.<br/><br/>My objection was more to do with the incessant Rap music during an early Sunday morning breakfast. <br/><br/>Rap music has its place in the music world. However, young angry whiney self-indulgent black men monotonously cursing their way through a Sunday morning breakfast at Manly Beach is not one of those places.<br/><br/>There is so much great chiller funky music available, it beats me how one persons taste in music can destroy what should otherwise be a great ambience

The colliflower nuggets are amazing and the Bloody Mary's are sure to cure any hangover. Good location, decor and somewhere chilled to hang out on an easy Sunday.
Eatdrinkbe_merry
I'm sure if Hemingway were still alive he would proudly come and dine and drink with the Manly people in this popular establishment. Came for Sunday brunch and the place was buzzing with families, lycra clad bike riders and people just out to enjoy the beautiful weather after six weekends of rain. Ordered The Good Girl (with smoked salmon, poached egg, kale, goat's curd and tomato salsa), Avocado on Toast (with extras) and the House Toasted Muesli (with soy). All delicious and colourful. Great Gabriel coffee too!

The best Chocolate Fondant in my life! I literally fell in love with this cozy and iconic restaurant in Manly. Lovely people, very tasty and valuable food and great beach view. Definitely will come back.

Great friendly service and the menu looked delicious. Service was fast and the vibe of the cafe was a mix between old school bookshop and hipster hangout. We ordered the Good girl 2.0 and Avo on toast. Both were a little disappointing, the food either not quite fresh with the avo, or the flavours not really working together for the Salmon. All in all a nice cafe in mainly.

I've been to Hemingway's a few times as a local, and they're quite good. The view of the ocean is great, the interior is decently furnished, the clientele are less rowdy than most of the other places in manly, and the drinks are very good. They do a great bloody mary.

On a beautiful sunny day at Manly, this cafe was filled with people, conversations and abundant tables of delicious looking food. The menu has a variety of dishes to choose from for breakfast/brunch with a French influence including salmon crepes, cassoulet & croque madame. I skip these & opt for the "good Girl 2.0" which sounded abundant, tasty & healthy. It did not disappoint with the plate arriving heaving with smoked salmon, mushrooms, kale, goats curd, salsa, toast & topped with a perfectly poached egg. It is generous & delicious. Then there is the avocado toast with marinated feta & tomato salsa. Again it was generous & tasty & the addition of a poached egg was perfect. I tried a Tumeric latte to see what the fuss is about and have to say I am not a fan despite its so called health benefits. The latte was much more palatable & a good coffee at that. The dishes are generous & delicious but on the pricey side. Service is friendly & relaxed which suits a beach side cafe perfectly.

absolutely appalling!!! <br/>the worst service we have ever received in the 4 years we have lived here - topped off by being given the wrong bottle of wine 3x times by the drunken/drug affected waiter, who refuses to take it home ff the bill even though we didn't drink any of them!!! he also proceeded to spill an entire cocktail on the table next to us and forget 2 other tables order...take your money elsewhere! <br/>this place is a complete dive and will ruin your day/night!!!

This quirky cafe is located on North Steyne and overlooks Manly Beach. There are lots of pictures of Ernest Hemingway and obviously the inspiration for this cafe. It was a glorious spring day and the sunshine was out so there were lots of people about. This cafe attracted both a lot of dine in and takeaway customers. If dining in you can choose a table outside to take advantage of the views and sunshine or sit inside if the weather is a bit chilly. They have regular tables or you can sit perched up on bar seating.<br/><br/>The service is friendly and noticed them chatting to the regulars. I was served quite quickly and they had an interesting breakfast menu. I wanted to try items I wouldn't usually get at other cafes for breakfast. I went with the Breakfast Cassoulet. The concept was good but the cassoulet itself needed more seasoning. I liked the egg and toast served with it. I also had a Golden Latte. It had turmeric, coconut oil, cinnamon, and maple syrup. It was a bit savoury due to the turmeric. I enjoyed the coconut flavours and maple syrup as I enjoy it more sweet in taste. Not sure if I would choose it again if other choices available but it was certainly something different.

Been cool since the day it opened on the almost smack bang busy beach front. Menu is now french inspired and atmosphere is always wonderful day or night.

Hemingway's is a fairly relaxed little bar cum restaurant right over the road from the glorious Manly Beach. It has changed owners a few times over the years but with each not trying to change to change the essential vibe of the place, it has remained a very comfortable place to relax with a quality drink. It's a fairly informal and eclectic setting, with scattered tables, low coffee tables and stools.<br/><br/>The alcohol selection is decent without being extensive and they know how to mix a good drink, be an in-house cocktail or one of the classics. The food selection is ok if not a little on the basic side. There is nothing overly creative at all, it's a fairly standard selection of "meat and three veg" style dishes and run-of-the mill salads. It's not going to set your world on fire but if you become caught up in the drinks and feel the need to slow things down a little, it will fill a gap.

Huge servings. Porridge was unique with chia etc. Pulled pork was tangy and crispy with good textures. Awesome coffee!<br/>Lovely atmosphere, beach and sea views and service was lovely

Had brunch here and I really enjoyed the coconut and quinoa bircher with poached pear. It was light and fresh with bursts of flavour from the berries. Interior is a bit dark inside but you get a library feel with the wood and walls of books and old encyclopaedias. Great location on the beach.

It's nice and pleasant environment (with la roux playing) with seats that look onto Manly Beach. A mix of locals and tourists. <br/><br/>Ordered the "Green with Envy" cold pressed juice; which is nice.<br/><br/>Feeling rather healthy I grabbed a Quinoa and kale salad served with a hint of lemon. Ordered it with avocado and chicken. Very pleasant. <br/><br/>Also ordered a Eagle-eye<br/>pressed juice; which I think I actually like more than the first one. <br/><br/>All in all, it was a very nice and healthy lunch. But price a wee bit on the high end.<br/>
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
The bar that pays tribute to the literary legend has been Francophile'd with the arrival of new owners Sonia Piantoni and Emmanuel Deleuze. Bringing the experience of owning a Michelin Star restaurant in the French Alps to an already established local hangout can only mean good things. They’ve ditched the American diner fare for classic French cuisine with a breezy beach feel. On face value, the menu couldn’t get more French it you tried: steak tartare, croque monsieur, cheese plates, you get it, however if you dig a little deeper, you’ll find there’s more than meets the eye. The Tarte Flambée ($15) is a thin crusted pizza with bacon, herbs and marinated onions – proving the simple things go the distance

We must have come on the night that the head chef was off duty. The food was ordinary, bordering on terrible.<br/>My partner had gnocchi that was fresh out of a packet. I had the seasoned lamb which was overcooked and stew-like. The only saving grace was the Parmesan shaker fries which were generous in size and quite tasty.<br/>Quite disappointed as we came on the reviews of Zomato.

Food was really tasty and fresh, service was good. Drinks had room for improvement, caramel milk shake was serviced with ice blocks. Otherwise really good.
MrJan
Nice atmosphere, laid back and opposite the beach. I enjoyed the quinoa salad with extra avocado. Yummy. It was happy hour and drink special. They had hills cider, good for a day like this.
Spooning Australia
Hemingway’s in Manly, when it opened, became pretty much the first full-blown hipster joint in Manly and then it settled into becoming an institution, the must visit place for twenty-somethings to sip cocktails and gin and tonics while eating chicken nuggets and salt and vinegar crisps white bread sandwiches. Prior to Hemingway’s it was once my favourite venue known as The Barking Frog, I even hired the entire venue for my 35th party and it was the best party I have ever had, totally rocked and blew my budget for years of birthdays to follow. The Barking Frog rocked, Hemingway’s rocked the hipster world for quite a while and then the owners sold it. <br/>I review the newish menu from the new French owners.

and bustle of the CBD.  After embarking on a long ocean swim, I mustered up enough hunger to have a couple of breakfasts.  . After consulting my trusty 'Good Café Guide' (I never leave home. without it), I found myself gravitating towards the beach side café called Hemingway's in Manly. Café by day, bar by night, this airy and busy port could also be

As an English teacher, this place is clearly my thing. The decor is very atmospheric and it feels dark and cosy with all the books and wood panelling. We went in the evening on a weekend when there was only a snack menu available so, after a delicious hendricks gin and tea cocktail, we tucked into some delicious sliders. The sliders were tasty but needed to be a bit squishier to make them easier to eat. The tempura mushrooms were tasty but the truffle parmesan shaker fries were off the hook! I would go back again just for these! The food and cocktail menu needs to be a little more extensive though to compete with the strong competition on this strip.

Cool interior! Good location just right on the beach! Food is ok not very special with small portion and high price tag. The portion is enough for a small eater like me but for my bf he ended up having a fish and chip after.

Very cool cosy place! You have to visit! Beautiful view, great food, friendly atmosphere, very nice time for break. Interesting design with a lot of books :)

Love the ambience - a tiny, dimly lit venue that's never empty and offers both dining and casual food/drinks options. The bar food was a bit of a hit and miss especially in terms of value for price - burger is definitely not worth the price, but some clever snack options like the juicy charred sweet corn standing out. Beer: Four taps, recently usually featuring bigger Aussie craft beer names - 4 Pines, Young Henrys (one of the few places north of the bridge that serves their fantastic cider), Feral Brewing.

Weekday Brunch. Great food and service on a chilled weekday. Atmosphere is relaxed and the staff is very friendly. <br/><br/>Food was was served quickly and we'll presented! <br/><br/>Would come again =)

Simple but really great beer selection, good burger, good service, great view. Super place to chillax after a day by the beach. Will be back.

Overpriced and underwhelming. I had the misfortune of eating here on Saturday night - the portions of food are tiny and really at over $30 for a main course such as bouillabaise you might expect more than a few pieces of seafood and potato - the rest of us had the salmon, gnocchi or pork belly - all of us were disappointed - the place was relatively empty as well which is never a good sign - too many other options on offer in the area to recommend.

Hemingway’s in Manly A catch up session with highschool friends. We went bowling after this (I won with 151 points!) It’s quite similar to Gertrude & Alice in Bondi, I wonder if the shops are related in some way. Date:   Saturday the 2nd of August, 2014 Location: Hemingway’s -  48 North Steyne, Manly NSW 2095,  (02) 9976 3030 Price: I forgot. Someone else probably paid for me. The next course is a winter favourite – Braised lamb shoulder with Moroccan Flavours. It’s a tender lamb shoulder on a bed of chickpeas with a fragrant mix of a sticky paste, which is apricots, dates and other Moroccan herbs and spices. It’s an exotic, flavoursome dish with the winter comfort factor! The lamb is so tender, succulent and has that fall apart texture and is oozing with fresh juices which makes you almost forget about the winter weather.

Lunch, dinner and bar menus follow suit, offering quirky, fun dishes mixed with a selection of serious foodie options...The whole bar just has a great vibe to it. You can tell from the hirsute smiles of the gents behind the bar that you’re in a place that’s been brought about with love.

Sipping cocktails while looking out through the open bi-fold windows and enjoying the view of the beach and water across the road on a late Sunday afternoon, now, that was time well spent.

Although the overall vibe of the cafe is cosy as it feels a bit like a trendy library, they have open windows facing onto the beach which let the fresh air in and remind you of its picturesque location with a glimpse of the sea view. Unfortunately, it’s very windy on the autumn day we visit and we are seated next to the open window too, which meant that our serviettes kept flying off the table. As we settled in at our ta

Once we were seated, a bottle of water in a Hendrick Gin bottle was presented to us. I loved the dark manliness of this bottle, I'm sure Hemingway would of approved.

We decide it’s time to head to Hemingway’s Manly and sure enough, about half an hour later it’s starting to rain. Perfect timing. We find a bench and stools (the perfect spot for people watching) and settle in. I love the bookshelf, the writing on the way, even the table numbers clipped on to books. This is a place run by bearded Manly men, much like Hemingway himself (well, just the beard bit) and you can tell they have a lot of fun running it. We choose the Manly Food and Wine Festival specials ($15 each). I have the ‘school’ crispy school prawns, green tea salt, citrus mayo, which are crunchy and the mayo perfectly tangy. The Boy has the ‘sliders’ beef, cheese, bacon, bbq, mayo, pickles. The menu is also full of American sna

Great Casual Eating.. This is a small quaint cafe with better than average food, a reasonable wine list & good service. It has a great ambiance and friendly feel to it. I would definitely try the establishment again.

What's happened. Good old hemingways what's happened ????<br/>Went in for breakfast on Sunday like I have plenty of times expecting the good breakfast but what I got wasn't up to the standard that I've gotten used to here <br/>Cold food <br/>Long wait <br/>Rude staff <br/>Guess the goods things don't last

Really yummy food! The service wasn't great- had to wait awhile to get seated and order. Also difficult to get attention of waiters. But overall a cool vibe and good food.

Amazing pork belly salad. I went here for lunch today, it was great!. I had a coffee which was good, the pork belly salad, (after I ordered it I wasn't sure if it was going to be really bad or really good. turned out it was amazing!) and a side of fries which could have been cooked a bit longer. over all the food was good the service was a bit slow but I wasn't in a rush. I would go again!

Very good coffe in the morning. Came for dinnertoniggt and loved as well. Started with the sashimi and avocado starter which was nice Had the pork belly which came with a very nice apple and watercress salad. Reasonably priced as well

Great service, food was more than delicious. We came from WA and for me personally this is the best food I had in Sydney. Shame I can't eat here everyday

Came for after work drinks, was a great option. View was great for enjoying the afternoon light. Service was good. Had the happy hour $5 nuggets and cider- both tasty and well priced.

Where should I start? Perhaps the dull uneducated service, perhaps the thirty minutes between 12 and 12.30 where you can't order without being told or even the substandard mediocre meals? The salmon salad was overpriced and was quite possibly tinned. Do not bother going here despite its fancy decor and view. I'd rather eat raw bacon by port botany.
Tina
Only the second time I've been here and really impressed with the food coffee, cocktails and atmosphere. Definitely be back.
Thuy-Vi Truong
Completely blown away by the food here. I didn't expect the food to be that good as it looks more like a casual cafe/bar. We had the steak tartare, fries (truffle Parmesan!!) and the pork belly between the two of us. Service was great and atmosphere is warm and friendly. Can't recommend it enough.

Perfection. Hemingways is a locals secret. From the location, to the good staff, to the great wine/drinks list to the delicious food. Chilled, unpretentious, quality with a smile. Try the poached eggs with avocado for breaky or tomatoes with ricotta which are just yum. Gets my vote every single time. Look and learn people :)

The mains dilemma. I really wanted to give this place a thumbs up, as the atmosphere was perfect for dinnner with my parents visiting from overseas, the service was impeccable and the food was delicious. They also offer an admirable range of beers and wines, too. However, mains alone was not filling and the sides available to compliment the shoulder of lamb dish were ill fitting. This is why it was a "mains dilemma" as I would have definitely recommended the place is the mains had have been sufficient to leave us content. We shouldn't have to reduce our options to a side of shoe string fries due to the other sides available being even less suitable. That, I thought, was disappointing. It would not have been difficult to have offered some crispy skinned small potatoes are steamed greens as an optional side, better still, as a part of the $24 dish. I would not consider $32 ($8 for fries) as reasonable value, partly because the mains alone was not filling, but also because we didn't really want to have fries supplied liberally with mayonnaise. Beware the sides trap!

Greeted @ door by friendly lady with brown hair and told there was a table upstairs, only to find no table once we walked up stairs. <br/>Coming back down to find another blond arranging her friends to seat before other customers. <br/>Once approached she said <br/>"They are in front of you" sorry <br/>Aggressive and rude I let it fly <br/>Calling her a rude B#% <br/>She had no problem swearing right back<br/>The food looked ok but if you want to be treated like an animal <br/>This is the place

You're dreadful Muriel. Quite possibly the worst sandwich you would have eaten since the one that went all tomatoey soggy in your primary school lunchbox. Two very thick slices of doughy, dare I say helgas bread, that overcooked, tasteless beef walked past and glanced at on its way to somewhere better.

Breakfast!. Great friendly service, super croissants, killer tomato/feta/avocado on sourdough toast with micro-herbs and balsamic! And perfect coffees, including soy. Going back, for sure.

Wine and Cheese. MUST EAT:<br/>‘pbj’ with peanut butter parfait, raspberry, peanut cookie, jelly, sorbet, brittle, jam, brioche <br/>Cheese board <br/>chicken nuggets with rosemary, sweet chilli & dijon marinade, chipotle mayo <br/>hemingway’s cup<br/>SO SO: <br/>Prosciutto (The first time it was excellent but the second time, it was too thick to chew on)<br/><br/>SERVICE: <br/>Both times the service was pleasant. I must have been lucky?<br/>Will return and update this list.

THE PALACE OF DREAMS. Yo Yo playaaaasss,<br/>This is simply the most devine place to while away an hour or two with a companion and/or a book from the shelves. There are plenty of selections, no matter your preference in genre. There is even a book on British celebrities and their various knitted garments. I believe the now infamous Jimmy Savall is featured in this book. <br/>The staff are impressively, particularly those with moustaches and other manly facial growths. The beverage and food are quite acceptable to ones palate. <br/>This is simply a lovely place.<br/>BITCHESSSSSS

Fantastic!. Found Hemmingways half way through a week in Manly, and after a number of disappointments, I was wrapped with what we'd found.<br/>Initially I was perplexed by the lack of poached eggs, but the soft boiled eggs deliver everything you could want. <br/>The "Good Guys" breakfast was one of the best breakfasts I've had for a very long time, in both Sydney and Melbourne..<br/>Wait staff were casual, but not arrogant.<br/>Will certainly be back next time I'm in NSW.

Great place, great food. After reading the other reviews I am wondering if we even went to the same place? <br/>We ate there twice. Both times the service and food were fantastic and well worth the price. I am looking forward to eating there again soon.
Manly Local
Scratched off my list. As the previous reviewers have said the wait staff are surly and pretentious and it really ruins the experience. Sadly its such a common experience in Sydney these day. Food was very average and over priced.<br/>Wont return when so many better local options.

The service was good . I liked the carrot ginger apple juice but 7 $ is too much. The burger was Average as was my friend's chicken parm burger. I wouldn't say this place is worth the stop for lunch burger. Looks like a decent drinking spot though.

Would You Like Attitude With That?. The difference between a good eatery and a great eatery is service and gratitude of patronage. When waitresses speak so disrespectfully and moodily it takes the shine off an otherwise nice place to stop, take a load off and refresh.<br/><br/>It seems Hemingway's relies too heavily on its location as the service is sporadically good with a skew toward awful from some staff who feel put out when taking orders and delivering service. <br/><br/>There are good staff but the ones that are bad are really bad and quite shocking. Go there, the place has the location but do not be surprised if you get two lumps of attitude with your coffee and a sprinkle of eye-rolling despise with your poached eggs.

Delicious cocktails!! Great late night spot!

Fantastic brunch spot on the beach. Great food, good coffee & a really cool vibe. Would love to come back for a drink/dinner.

Went here with my grandmother, Aunty and mum. Best brekky we've had in awhile the Moroccan was amazing! All filling reasonably priced items with an amazing view. If we weren't from Melbourne I'd be coming back soon! Atmosphere and service made the day. Great idea for brunch.

Diabolical service. We ordered the $12 cocktail specials include a food plate. The food plates arrived fairly promptly but were unimpressive - the cerviche and chips were tasteless. We then had to wait for ages for the cocktails to arrive. We seemed to have about 3 or 4 waitresses attend our table none of whom knew what was going on. <br/>The bathrooms are simply hideuous - a simple lick of paint would improve no end.<br/>Not going back anytime soon

One of a kind. Always nice for a late night wine and staff are friendly. head down on a week night to avoid crowds that would, i think, ruin the romantic, homely vibe. will definitely keep coming back!

Pretentious and awful. The staff were rude and unfriendly. When we were told that they could not poach eggs we finished our overpriced coffees and left. Not even a thank you as we handed over $12 for 2 coffee's.
Hmmmmm
All promise. I went in to pay and the chap that had asked if there was anything he could get us with great zeal about ten minutes ago asked me where I had been sitting. That was probably why he didn't make it back with the water we requested that was "no problem". <br/>We stopped late morning on a Sunday for breakfast but the Bad Boy Breakfast was off already. The second choice for Mark was chorizo and beans but when it arrived hardly any chorizo was evident maybe the supplies for this were going the way of BBB. I ordered the Good Boy Breakfast which instantly prompted the response that "it doesn't come with toast". It did need it and you would think that they should just add it to the dish and be done with it. So there was street appeal, an interesting menu but service and meals that mean we will not be back for some time.

Breaky is always good really simple but good the service isn't very good used to be a lot better as did the coffee the barista must have left there is some new guy that's not great

Cruisy Food and Atmosphere. I love the upstairs room at Hemingway's. Quiet and easy to hang out, drink, talk and eat delicious food and listen to the waves of Manly beach across the road. The food is simple but very tasty and the drinks list is long and diverse something for everyone. One of my favourite places.

They are becoming cocky and the standard has dropped. I used to be a big fan of Hemingway's but like a lot of places that do well, success has gone to their head and my suspicion is that they are starting to not care. A recent breakfast there revealed they had charged me $5 for a small pot of butter! And I have heard other stories from locals about how they have made it difficult to book for a small groups and were in fact quite rude about the matter. What next, charging for water? Not good enough, Hemingway's.

Just arrived back from a wonderful night at hemingways ! It was a busy saturday night and we were not surprised that the bar was full at 7:30pm . We walked around manly trying to buy time before we headed back in at 8 to find a table tucked away in the back. So lucky !! We didn't want to have dinner and just opted for the bar "snack" menu and beer . And boy was that a good choice. The food came out fast and with quality. Oh and special mention to the waiters as they were very friendly . It made it a pleasant experience ! Definately Coming back for breakfast soon!

Really nice waitstaff, good drinks, music was great. Prices accessible to anyone, with massive range. Love it

I'll be back for sure. Had dinner upstairs on Thursday night for our anniversary <br/>we where a little hesitate at first cause haven't heard much about it. We've been in for breaky and lunch a number of times and always enjoyed it.<br/>So we went on up and what a nice surprise a nice little dining room candles and dark settings the menu was set in old books and read with a title then a description so i start with a little creatures pale ale on tap and girlfriend has a Hemingway's cup ha i tasted it a loved it but didn't want to order myself one cause comes in a tea cup shame i didn't suck it up and get one. Then for the food <br/>We ordered "PEPPERS" which where peppers with bacon feta currants a nice start then we had "PRAWNS"<br/>four large prawns prawn toast and crackers and some sort of chilli butter I'm not a massive fan of prawns but my girlfriend loved them then "FISH OF THE DAY" was a nice clean flavoured dish didn't recall the name of the fish but was nice with crispy skin then "THREE PIGS" pork belly blood sausage and ear it scared the crap out of the girl but once we ate it we loved it the cherry and cauliflower pork was awesome.<br/>then the one and only "PBJ" had it before and never lets us down.<br/>If your looking for a night out thats a little bit different nothing like anything else in manly then check it out

Disppointing. We dined on Friday evening for a birthday celebration, the location is superb and we loved the idea of this place, however the food proved to be a huge disappointment. We ordered 4 dishes, the figs and prawns were the highlight and had taste... however the fish and veal...huge disappointment... both dishes were bland and tasteless. <br/><br/>Wait staff were pleasant, however too interupting of our conversation and the food can out far too quickly. Prices are steep and No, we won't be going back.

A great brekkie!. Went with some girlfriends on a Sunday morning. Attentive staff (our very own 'Billy Connolly' as our waiter) and although there were some very trendy traits in the joint, the menu was honest and the food was delicious. Would be an easy place to return :)

Unsatasfied. Been meaning to go here for some time.. Service was attentive but wait staff were miss informed of lack of beers/food and therefore apologetic. (we orded 4 times and each time the waitress came back and said they had run out or machine broken) Food was ok but a bit steep for what u get. Loved the location and decor.... Overall I'd have to reserve judgement on this place and try on a not so busy weekend. Until then it's just average and a bit underdone!
