Review The Hot Dog Man - Manly

Mark Prior (Marky P)
Had a takeaway from here. Got the Mr Cheesey's Double Deluxe burger, some of the American potatoes, which were the best potato based accompaniment I've ever had and lastly a Simple Simon dog. If the food is anything to go by I can't imagine the rest won't be equally amazing. Highly recommended.

Hot dogs were tasty and was a good size. Also service was quick and responsive. The restaurant however was small and didn't have many seats.

Dog to bun ratio is all wrong. There's way too much bun. Plus, they could at least toast the bun for the price you pay. At least they are generous with the toppings.

I ordered the pork belly and despite it containing a really good cut of pork, perfectly cooked I was rather disappointed. The $15 price tag is pretty outrageous It lacked any real flavour other than the over whelmingly fishy sauce and the toppings were clumped together in sections as opposed to being spread the length of the dog. Now I keep burping up a discusting fish smell. I don't believe fish and pork belong on the same dog.

Still the best in the universe. Value for money. Always fresh and SO delicious. Get an extra box of potato royales for the ferry ride, other commuters wished they had stopped by thehotdogman too. Best ever!!!!!

Tried the $10 hot dog combo. Was not disappointed ! Great value. Friendly and quick service. Will be back for sure to try the burgers. EFTPOS here.

Just had the Spanish Chorizo Hot Dog, just average wouldn’t eat it again. The roll was bit chewy, sausage was raw at the finish end. They tried to show the roll is full with ingredients but it is just fluffy and the things are just on the top as you see. Might come back but not for the same thing, wasn’t worth $15

Great place in Manly. Delicious hot dogs using good quality sausages. They also have sides of potato gem with fabulous doppinh sauces. A really fantastic place for a quick meal. They also do home delivery through Deliveroo.

Got introduced to this place in 2015 when I first arrived in Australia and have told multiple people of the magic they produce here after almost 5 years I’ve never had a bad thing to say about this place every time I’ve never had an issue and mr cheesy always lives up to expectations my mum and dad are visiting from the UK and we’ve just left the hot dog man 100% satisfied as always my dads only complaint was he wish he had gone for the double deluxe mr cheesy because he wanted more 5 star every time

The hotdog man is great! The food is always so fresh and delicious. Its hard to fiend a good hotdog in Sydney, hotdog man had many. I love the traditional Bratwurst and The Boss burger - both work well with a side of the potato tots.

Tried the cheese Kransky hot dog, the sausage was cooked well and tasted good. However the toppings were not good. The crisp onions and beetroot did not work and was confusing.

Our order:
Wagyu beef with crispy onions, pickled slaw and kimchi mayo

Spanish chorizo with confit garlic aioli, manchego and leaves

The truff - truffle mayo with black pepper

We loved everything from here! Nice flavoured meat and toppings.

Short walk from manly wharf. Lots of variety of hotdogs and burgers to choose from. Warm friendly service. But the star of this place is the cheesecake on a stick. Drizzled in chocolate and topped with peanut caramel or oreo, it’s the perfect sweet treat for a cheesecake lover like me. Would go back to try their other item if i didn’t live a 2hr commute away.

This is a good example of cheap and good food. You can try a nice burger or hotdog for less of $15. The burgers are not small, the beef is a good quality as well. They have interesting combinations and toppings. I tried "the boss" a bit spicy and with a fried egg, cool. The bread was fresh, that's important. And I really recommend the fries, are really good, they are like a small hash browns. Anyway, I think that worth try this place.

I've come here twice, once for a vegan dog and another time for a chorizopan.
First, the vegan dog is very disappointing. The bread to filling ratio is very poor and the sausage is quite tasteless.
Second time, i decided to give the meat option a go, as it seems like they are more particular with their meat. Got the Chorizopan, which is a chorizo hot dog with chimichuri. It was much better then the vegan choice. It's juicy and spicy, bread to filling ratio is fine and definitely more satisfying overall. The price is reasonable and you don't have to wait long.
I feel like as long as you go for the meat option, you should be fine. May come again for other type of sausages, but will give the vegan choices a pass.

What a perfect location for a burger shop, walking along the main strip of manly and managed to pass a $10 special sign, doesn’t take much to get me into a burger joint so I was already sold.
For my $10 I received a classic burger, potato gems and a drink 👌🏼 the burger it’s self was amazing not to cheesy and the bun was soft and fresh.. now onto those little golden nuggets!! They where the winner of this meal 😍🤤 I would honestly go back just for those potato gems.

For a proper bratwurst - step into Hot Dog Man!! and by bratwurst, I mean a meaty sausage that been properly crafted and cooked on a grill so that when you bite into the skin - it bursts (!) and inside a juicy meaty filling awaits.

There a few fun combos to choice from, so there is something for everyone. I usually go for a classic - Pork and Fennel Bratwurst with Sauerkraut, pickles and mustard and I'm never disappointed.

The restaurant is fairly small with not a lot of seating, and being on the main run between the ferry and the beach, I assume it can get pretty busy. Either take your food with you, and continue to eat along the beach-side, or frequent it on either a Monday or Tuesday night when they are less busy and have their cheap night combo deals - currently (I think) $10 for one of their basic hot dogs, plus a drink, but don't quote me!

I was craving some hot dog at 10pm on a Friday night, but I didn't want to go to any of my usual places, so I ran a Google search and found this place. It was empty when I got there, and the one staff member working looked like he was about to close shop, but luckily for me, the place was actually open till 1am.

I ordered a smoked chicken chorizo, a chilli cheese dog, a slow cooked pork belly banh mi, the truff, and an orange juice. (The truff and the orange juice came as a combo set.) As there was only one staff member working there at that hour, it did take a little longer for my meal to be ready, but it wasn't really too long, perhaps 20-25mins roughly.

The chicken chorizo was delicious, the sausage was well-cooked, and grilled to perfection, with that nice, slightly hard skin on the outside of the sausage and then beautifully tender meat inside. The fillings were great too, although perhaps a little too much roquette (rocket). The buttermilk bun was so soft and light as well. However, their sausage-to-bun ratio was a little off to me, there was still quite a bit of bun left but no more fillings. The chilli cheese dog was great as well, piping hot and beautifully made, full of flavour, but again, my friend was left with too much bun and not enough filling. For such a large bun, the sausage and the fillings do not quite match it.

The slow cooked pork belly banh mi was good, but I prefer the traditional Vietnamese banh mi to be honest. While the pork belly was great, and the crackling was so crunchy and crispy, and I really couldn't fault it, the rest of the roll was lacking. The pate didn't have that usual strong flavour, there was way too much pickled carrots which gave it a rather sour taste after a few bites, and there was just too much mayo. The truff potato royales were great though (they were more like tater tots, or the hashbrown bites even), and although I'm a bit skeptical about how much truffle is really in that sauce, you could still definitely smell the truffle scent, and taste a faint hint of it with every bite.

Service here was very friendly and fast, with even just the one staff member working. I paid $46.50 for my meal for two, which sounds pricey for some hot dogs, but I did get a lot of food, and it was delicious and the service was great.

TIP: in winter, consider taking food away and eating in your car (they'll give u a big paper bag to carry everything in), as the restaurant itself has a large entrance doorway which can't be closed during service, and it tends to get very windy and cold inside due to this.

It's the worst chicken burger I've had in my life. You're better if going to the local chicken shop. $18 bucks for the burger plus tater tots. Don't waste your money there

Hot dog ninja!!

The food lives up to the name, over 9 different sausages available to pick from with burgers and rolls ... Everyone can choose what they want.

I really like the pork belly banh mi, its an interpretation of a Vietnamese pork roll, home made pate and pickled veggies.

The sausages are delicious too so its always a good choice, make sure you get the truffle tots.

Limited seating area but u can get takeaway and walk to Manly beach!

Until next time .... Keep eating!

I had the Boss burger and can definately say everything here, including the food is perfectly balanced 😎. The Spanish chorizo was definately a flavour journey. It's a cool place to go over an afternoon with chilled music.

Stopped here before heading on the ferry. Very neat and funky place! Loved the decor! Friendly staff! Nice and simple hot dogs! Went for the light options of Simple Simon and Kids Puppy Dog Meal. Can't go wrong with a hot dog and bread. Other options look yum!!

Oh my word what amazing hot dogs. I got the Spanish chorizo what they are famous for and it was all kinds of freaking amazing. Chorizo, manchego, garlic aioli and leaves on the most amazing soft roll. Hubs got the simple Simon and was enjoyed

Good hotdogs that would satisfy anyone on a balmy winters day.
Came after being peckish after a lazy day exploring the area.
Friendly staff and a decent variety of hotdogs made to order with a few interesting combination of condiments. All not overpowering the main event being the hotdog sausage.
All served on a soft bun which just hit the right spot.
Ok so not the great haute cuisine but at certain times the humble hotdog fits its purpose.
Highly recommended.....

Best hotdogs I've ever had! We had two of the hotdogs at the Manly Food and Wine Fest and despite the long line, were served quickly. Absolutely excellent food, amazing bun and great sausage and toppings. Yes!!

Best potato gems ever! Such a good combination with the burgers. The burgers were also great. Would recommend this place to other people!......

Cool and chic little hot dog outlet. Had the value for money combo, which was a kransky dog with fries and a drink (all for $10).

A decor that is reminiscent of New York / Chicago / that little bit of Americana, while Otis croons over the speakers. Only 7 bar stools around. Maybe a few more seats with a couple more counters would be good.

Nice dog in a brioche bun with sauerkraut. Hits the spot but without burning a hole in my wallet. Decent service. It's a great little place that'll feed you without the fuss. Down to earth, honest to goodness hot dogs.

The shop invites you with it's signage, literally! We ordered the beef and lamb hotdogs, the later having Harissa yogurt dressing. From the two the lamb one had the most flavour and it went hand in hand with the dressing. However compared to the hot dog bun, the size of the sausage was thin.

Awesome. Truly the most outrageously delicious hotdogs ever, a must try, Being a life time hotdog lover this is the most creative and original menu I have seen, well worth a visit. Had the Chorizo Dog last night and it was amazing. The sausage is generous and delicious and it had just the right amount of heat. Recommend!!!

I enjoyed this venue as it is on the right track – I do like that you can also buy the sausages uncooked and take them home yourself. The venue is not perfect yet but it is heading in that direction and its premise is spot on. As they are open late into the weekend nights these will also make a great late night drunken stumble home meals to compete with pizza and pies for the Manly revelers.
