Review Whitewater - Manly

Gabriel
An excellent selection of things to have for brunch, and definitely top-notch and quality and presentation that’s for sure. My only gripe would be that some of the staff on this particular Saturday were probably not as engaging as they could’ve been, although that did not spoil the experience. It was a lazy Saturday so the lacklustre energy could’ve been due to that, however they were friendly and polite. Still recommend trying this place out, one of the better places to have brunch in Manly!

The food wasn’t amazing! I ordered — Morton Bay Bugs Char grilled bugs served w. a light couscous salad, endive leaves & beetroot gel & the Spicy Lychee Vodka, lychee liqueur, lychee, ginger, chilli, pineapple juice + half a dozen of oysters. The main was very healthy but the salad was very plain & the Morton bug was also bland, and tough! Which means it was overly cooked! It was hard to pull out of the shell! The oysters were so yummy! Fresh (that’s all I enjoyed) from the menu! The spicy lychee vodka didn’t have a nice taste, the lychee tasted didn’t suit the spice. The view was amazing, across the road we could see the beach. In terms of servicing, not so friendly. Everyone looked miserable serving us. We didn’t feel welcome! We came on a Saturday around 1 PM. In the terms of cleanliness, the tables were sticky!! Even though I wiped down my table myself! I couldn’t get rid of the stickiness feeling!!

I got the Portuguese chicken burger and it was hands down thee best chicken burger I’ve ever had!! My Dad got the pancakes and he said they were excellent. My wife got the cheese burger but said it tasted more like meatloaf than a burger. She wasn’t as impressed with her meal as we were. The service was great and the view/location was also pretty good.

What a shame! Perfect location BUT despite the initial attentive service we waited an hour to NOT receive our entree and then we were served the most disappointing, hideous and embarrassingly poor effort of a ‘Mango and Prawn Salad’. Old cos lettuce (3 leaves browned with dirt in place), half a cherry tomato on each leaf, some 10 cent piece sized frozen prawn, and what was once maybe... a bit of poorly chopped, possibly tinned mango. Offensive! Even the staff looked embarrassed. Never Again! These guys need to get their act together. We left, were told by the manager to not pay for the wine we had ordered and already finished (during the hour wait) and had an amazing bowl of delicious salad elsewhere.

We went on a cold and miserable night, so the usual footpath dining with beach views was not available. That said we sat in a comfortable, quite inside and were looked after by attentive staff. The cocktails were great with the usual and some interesting new options. For dinner we had a few prawn options, and my son got the ribs and burger combo. All were of high quality and very tasty. Followed by a good selection of desserts, yummy, and espresso martini’s. not the cheapest spot in Manly, but great for a really top meal.

This place was just perfect. Nice food with a amazing view of Manly beach. We mainly ordered seafood dishes and were very happy with them. Although keep in mind that portions can be hugh. Cocktails were really great as well as the service. I do highly recommend to try this restaurant out.

A cozy restaurant with relaxed seating overlooking the beach and the ocean. They have both outside comfortable seating and indoor more personal seating arrangement for people. I tried their signature fish and chips that comes with a healthy portion of greens and any drinks of your choice. The food was delicious and you can eat it enjoying the Ambience, the surrounding areas, beach going people and surfers. Overall experience is great and recommended strongly

Conveniently located on the Manly beachfront, Whitewater is the perfect place to dine for breakfast, lunch or dinner. They have a diverse menu which caters for all different crowds and occasions. The restaurant can seat up to 140 guests and can host a cocktail event for up to 160 guests. Indoor and outdoor seating options are available. On a sunny day, the outdoor seating is the most ideal for soaking up the sun and appreciating the beautiful view of Manly Beach. To drink, we had the Whitewater Martini - kaffir lime and lemongrass, infused vodka, apple liqueur shaken with apple juice and lime juice. Pleasant flavour and great combination of flavours. The other half needed some caffeine so he had a strong cup of coffee. The coffee art was surprisingly impressive. We visited the restaurant for lunch and started with the Roasted Chinese duck with housemade pancakes, shallots, cucumber and plum hoisin sauce. The serving size was perfect, wasn’t too big or too small. For a restaurant that doesn’t specialize in Chinese cuisine, the flavours were on par. The only drawback for us was that there were 5 pieces of duck but only 4 pancakes. For the mains we had the Homemade tiger prawn spaghetti, cherry tomatoes, parsley and garlic pesto, spinach, and chilli in a Napolitana sauce. There was a generous amount of prawns and the pasta was nicely cooked. The flavours worked well together. The second main we had was the chargrilled swordfish fillet with tartar sauce and lime. It’s normally served with steakhouse chips but we opted for rocket salad to get some greens in. It was well seasoned and the tartar sauce nicely complimented the fish. The meal was well presented, on a chopping board which gave a rustic and homey feel. The rocket salad worked very well with the fish. It had parmesan, pinenuts, and aged balsamic dressing. The fish was a little overcooked for our preference but apart from that, it was delicious. No meal is complete without dessert. With the wide selection of options on the dessert menu at Whitewater, it’s an even better excuse. We were excited to try the Lemon Meringue which was a short crust pastry filled with a zesty lemon curd topped with burnt Italian Meringue. The pastry was light and crispy and the meringue was not too sweet. All the flavours worked very well together. We also tried the Affogato which was a sweet and simple way to finish off our meals.

I am a General Manager in hospitality and never review (first time on trip advisor today, as well as here as I feel it needs to be heard), this place was terrible. Went there on New Years Eve, ordered ala carte, seafood platter. The chef obviously was not prepared for anyone to order ala carte and served out frozen 2-3 day old fish with uneven amounts to share for two people, the oysters looked questionable and I love oysters so highly disappointed that I felt I would get sick eating one and chose to leave them. Honestly the worst meal I've had in a very long time. The manager was not much better with being very unsympathetic until I reminded her this was a $145 meal and she could at least offer us some salad to eat to at least have something edible. She did eventually offer to give us a few new items but we did not want to wait and again be served old frozen food. The manager took away our only 2% eaten meal, and gave us only 50% off the platter that was barely touched (in all honesty we should not have paid anything for the food as we did not eat enough to warrant). The manager seemed inexperienced, the chef obviously doesn't care. You have a fantastic view, but without good food and good management you lack what is needed to be successful. I don't think any chef would have been proud of what was served to us, which is disappointing as cooking food and having guests walk away ecstatic is what it's all about in hospitality. I know I won't ever be back and I know I will be letting people know not to come. Hope you can take this feedback and use it to make the necessary changes.

White water cafe is a horrible place to go ,the waiter was rude . Instead of tell us to come in and that breakfast was finish , but we could come in and have a drink or coffee and wait for lunch serve to start Instead he refused to serve us . If you want customers to come in and have a great experience you need to put more friendly waiter at the front

Used to love Whitewater but the food last night was not up to par. Even my favourite dish - the duck pancakes were not as good, with the pancakes way too thick. I had fish and chips for main and the batter on the fish was also too thick - more like an average fish and chip shop dish than a high quality restaurant. The chips tasted like they had been sitting around for a while. What a shame - this was one of my favourite restaurants in Manly. The service was good and the ambience, as always, was lovely. The food was a big let down.

10/10 for everything. It gets better each time I visit the restaurant! The service is always amazing, and the food even better. Me and a friend had the seafood platter for two this time and really really enjoyed it! Would definitely recommend to anyone! My favourite restaurant in Manly by far!

I once had one of the best steak fillets here and now the menus is very limited, they could expand this menu and also especially their wine menu. It was very limited. Would like to see more international wines. Riojas for example.

Fab-u-lish-us.. Delicious food, nice ambiance, superb location. Staff were lovely. My only gripe would be, and maybe I am greedy, but I wanted a bigger portion on my plate. The pan fried barramundi was to-die-for!

disgusting restaurant ! Never would I ever go back their , staff is not that nice , food was disgusting , my chicken salad had a bone in it , yuk !

I dined here with 2 friends recently and have to congratulate the staff on their customer service. Our waiter was filling wine glasses for our table and a nearby table. A customer from the other table got up and took our bottle of wine and refilled the glasses of her and her partner, finishing our wine off. Although we only had less than half a bottle left, the wait staff promptly gave us a brand new bottle. The food was gorgeous, decor lovely and a nice view!
Lynne Bizzaca
Food was delicious, my sister and I both had the risotto which was perfect. We had a selection of desserts also incredible. The staff were very friendly and attentive, even put sparklers on one of the cakes as it was my birthday. Will definitely be going back.

The chairs are too high for the table. It just made my breakfast uncomfortable! Also the coffee was not too good. Gorgeous view of the water and perfect for people watching.

I went to Whitewater for my birthday dinner and everything was fabulous from my meal to the service to the music and ambience. I couldn't have been happier and highly recommend it!

My partner and I had dinner at whitewater last night and we enjoyed the atmosphere . I always find In some restaurants if the food is good then the service is bad and if the food is bad then the service is really good haha . In this case the place definitely had the best of both worlds . To be honest we have been eating out at a few other places in manly recently and the service has been hopeless compared to the service we received last night . We will be back very soon :)

We took our daughter here for her birthday over the weekend she choose this restaurant for the fillet steak with the creamy mash & sautéed mushrooms as displayed out the front (its also online as part of the lunch menu) when they finally came out with our food there was no mash just fries & one piece of a mushroom not what we ordered, when we could get the attention of our waitress we asked about the dish she argued it came with fries not mash even though we said its on the menu, we couldn't even order it as a side dish as they don't do mash at lunch time?? Well my daughter doesn't like fries. We let it go as I could see my daughter was getting upset.
Then another waitress came over to start clearing our table & proceeded to take my plate even though I was still eating. Once we had finished I had to find someone to get our bill & used this opportunity to complain (they didn't care) so we were offered a 10% discount (which I found insulting) as they were just taking off the Sunday surcharge. They asked if I'd like the tax invoice a big mistake for them as they gave the discount then overcharged us by adding the GST twice. We then had to go back to sort out & made to feel like complete idiots they then realised the mistake but still couldn't work out how much refund to give us (makes me think how many others they rip off on a daily basis) Hence will never be going back to Whitewater Manly.
@terrible service
@we will never be back
@tasteless food

Whitewater Restaurant is a contemporary restaurant serving modern Australian food. The restaurant has great ambience and was within proximity of Manly beach. The food was great and so was the service.
Love At First Bite
Whitewater is a restaurant by Manly Beach, offering stunning views of the water and the perfect place to have a meal during the warmer months. We came here to celebrate the beginning of spring one night, keen to try out their new spring menu and have a nice night out. We were served a range of canapes.

I was here two weeks ago by myself and had the Seafood chowder. It was lovely full of seafood (prawns, clams, squid and scallops) and nice and creamy. Today I came with my wife and sorry but something must have changed. I had the Chowder again as I really liked it the first time round and it was watery, three prawns, a clam and two scallops and was disappointed. My wife ordered a Roast Chicken, Cheese, Avo and Mayo toastie and it was terrible, it came out cold, on what looked like sunbeam white loaf with the crust cut off, full of mayonnaise, cheese had not been melted, hardly any chicken, no Avo to speak of and over laden with lettuce. My wife took one bite and couldn't finish this dish. To their, defence, the service was good, they were concerned over the dish but it was too late. They did offer another dish but my wife had been put off. The coffee on both my visits was good so there's a positive. We weren't required to pay for the toastie which is what I would have expected. Disappointing. (the photo attached was the first visit)

Real rating: 3.5/5
The service was great but the food was only alright. The seafood wasn’t as fresh it it could’ve been, especially for the price paid. Good atmosphere.

I recently attended the end of winter celebration at Whitewater restaurant in Manly. Whitewater restaurant is located right across from Manly beach. The evening was full of drinks, canapes and a cocktail class. There was a live band which was providing entertainment and the decore was quite nice. The night was full of food influencers mixed in with a few other people.

Amazing Fish n Chips, the beat part is the chips is so tasty and yum, can’t explain...i dont know why, the taste of the chips here is totally different from other australian restaurants and cafè...its superb...ans the dip complements everything...on the other hand, garlic bread was too good.
Ok now coming to the efficient part of the restaurant- you will get a drink free if you order anything from the lunch menu, it could be a fish n chips, and other dishes...u can get a corona, or coke and so on...
And finish your food craving with a flat white extra hot regular size coffee, it’s superb.

Thanks a lot guys, keep it up.

Nice food in a great location. Came here couple of years ago and had an amazing dinner, hot pot of seafood... came here yesterday (for lunch menu) and had a cold seafood plate for two which is pretty small for two but the food is nice & fresh. Marinara was also good and was chips on side

The good: great decor, nice location, decent wine list. All in all it’s an OK feed, just not quite up to scratch for the prices they charge.

Cocktails were weak - although their Whitewater Martini was at least very tasty. Bruschetta at $24; was expecting something marvellous. 3 small pieces with minimal topping was probably the lowlight for the evening. Duck pancakes - for $36 got 6 small pieces of ducks to stick in mini pancakes with a bowl of hoisin. Tasty - but Tiny. Swordfish on gnocchi was a mishmash of flavours - heavy garlic with blue cheese and mushrooms dominated the fish.

Disappointed as had been waiting a long time to go to Whitewater.

Tasty fresh and loads of seafood. The cold seafood plate is a little heavy on the salmon - more octopus required, but it's reasonably priced and a good location
Blurred Limes
My partner and I went to Whitewater last night for dinner. We ordered the seafood platter for two and it was quite possibly the worst meal we have ever had. The kingfish sashimi, prawns, lobster and scallops were old, chewy and barely edible. Our wine was kept to the side and we had to ask the staff for refills throughout our attempt to eat the food. We both felt sick immediately afterwards and couldn't believe how disappointing the food was.
Totally overpriced for frozen, chewy and nauseating seafood. Will not be returning again!

White Water is part of the Platinum Restaurant Group which also owns Harbour Bar and Kitchen, Casa Ristorante Italiano, Blackbird Café, and Ribs Burger & Beer in Darling Harbour. The commonality of these venues is waterfront in the midst of tourist attractions.

The restaurant is only a stone’s throw from the famous Manly Beach. If you visit it during daylight, you can witness the hustle and bustle on the Corso and Marine Parade, both buzzing with locals and visitors.

The colour of cream flows through the décor of the restaurant, soft on the eyes at first but soon upholstered chairs, dining tables, and slated ceilings all blend into one and the only colour contrast comes from the “red brick” wall paper and synthetic plants.

In order to truly appreciate the quality of produces used in White Water, we decided to go for all seafood starter and all meat mains. Seafood Tasting Plate Cold ($50) shared by two consists of Sydney rock oysters, tiger prawns, tuna tataki, raw Hiramusa yelllow tail king fish and Tasmanian smoked salmon with ponzu pepper sauce and aioli. While we enjoyed the sashimi, the smokiness from the salmon was so dominant that everything else became seemingly bland. Sydney rock oysters are usually smaller than Pacific or Tasmania varieties but you probably would need a magnifying glass to find those on our platter.

The meat combo looked like something out of the program Man vs Food – ½ rack of pork ribs, ½ rack of lamb ribs, and Japanese Burger at $65. Eating ribs is always a messy business but our effort seemed to be rewarded with a lot of BBQ sauce but not enough meat from the pork ribs as we tried desperately to carve anything we could find from the bones.

I was asked how I would like my meat cooked? The question got me baffled for a second until I realised it referred to the beef patties in the Japanese burger. My response was medium but what we got was more like well done. If you are a paying customer, you could keep your bill low by drinking water because you would need it for the copious amount of salt in the burger, I thought it was Japanese Teriyaki Burger, not Japanese Sea Salt Burger.

Luckily we had no trouble to get water from our attentive young waitress, who was never more than an arm’s length from our table. Water glass was topped up after every sip and conversations were whispered aware of her constant presence out of the corner of our eyes. We really appreciate her enthusiasm but a bit of space would be equally appreciated.

As mentioned, the Platinum Restaurant Group runs a number of restaurants in most visited locations in Sydney. It is a great opportunity for them to showcase to the world what a delightful culinary destination Sydney can be apart from its pleasant weather, iconic landmarks, and beaches. We look forward to seeing the continuous growth and improvement in the standard of the Group.

(The RnB Diary dined as a guest of White Water)

Fun and casual, no bells, no whistles... midweek lunch, service by casual teen backpackers and very hearty burgers... made better by the view right across the beach..:
Those Who Love To Eat
A day trip bought us to Manly bought us to Whitewater for lunch. It was the perfect day to sit in the sun, dine, and crowd watch.
I'm always a tad hesitant when it comes to dining in rather touristy area such as Manly and other various spots around Sydney, and there are good reason why?!
We came here for lunch as my lunch buddy read some food reviews about this place and thought it was worth a visit, and off we went.
The staff were prompt, friendly, and attentive. However, the food just did not live up to the price expectation. In saying so, I don't mind paying for good food but this was, how should I say... rather sub par.
What we ordered: I ordered their king prawn with homemade pasta and my buddy ordered the grilled swordfish with chucky chips.
The pasta was ok, it was somehow missing the seasoning elements and the prawns were not fresh, rather frozen. My friend's swordfish was still frozen in the middle. That's disappointing for mains that are nearly $30 each. Like I've stated it's not about the money, but more about getting what you paid for. On the flip side, the petitions are very generous, but truth be known, I would rather have a smaller portion and have quality produce.
To add insult to injury, you get billed a 10% Sunday surcharge to cover their staff working on Sunday and paying their loading. Hmmmm... an $72 lunch with surcharge and such a mediocre meal?! It was such a let down.
Went here with my parents to have some breakfast and given the atmosphere and decor, thought this place would be nice. I ordered the veggie omelette which was incredibly bland and had minimal veges, my dad's pancakes seemed as thought they were from a packet and we're topped with grapes which seemed a highly unusual choice and finally my mum ordered a breakfast pan which was accompanied by a very white look hollandaise sauce and wilted spinach. The staff were pleasant but not overly accommodating. I would absolutely not recommend going here. It's a waste of time and money.

Delicious food in a gorgeous restaurant with a wonderful interior. I love the decor and the vibe is very relaxed. The customer service is super friendly. The menu is modern Australian with a fusion style to it. I highly recommend the gnocchi marinara and the oysters kilpatrick!

So ridiculously overpriced with ok quality, not overly impressed by the experience. The waiting staff was really nice nonetheless, friendly, efficient and quick.

After a long, choppy ferry ride and a visibly green girlfriend, we arrived at the Manly wharf and headed over to Whitewater for dinner. Whitewater is a chic restaurant on the waterfront of Manly beach serving Modern Australian cuisine with an Asian twist
Rosie Mansfield
A wonderful place to treat friends or
family for a special occasion or dine with a lover - most definitely not a first date venue. They tackle modern Australian cuisine with sophistication, but the service can be variable. Tends to be more Tourists dining than locals.

Whitewater is a modern Australian Restaurant located on the Manly Beach front with great water views. While it provides a relaxed ambiance where friends, family and colleagues can dine together in a casual beachy style atmosphere, the restaurant does also offer private room facilities and is available to host functions such as weddings and corporate events.

Was extremely disappointed with not only the poor excuse for service but also the food. The waitress had no idea about the menu and could not answer simple questions (such as size of dishes). Then when the food came out not only was the taste a let down but the serving of a main meal pasta was smaller than an entree of bruschetta. Would not recommend, would never come again. Ps only gave a rating of 1 because could not give -2.

Went for a nice mid-week dine out with my partner and had a good time here.
I liked that there was a bit of variety in the entrees, mains and desserts - something for every one!
Food was good; service was a bit slow considering the place was near-empty. We had a very rich chocolate hazelnut mousse with AMAZING caramel hazelnut ice cream (pictured).
The decor was quite pleasing actually and the place also outdoor seating with heaters for those willing to brave the cold sea breeze!

On a warm night, we caught the famous Manly ferry and travelled to Whitewater Restaurant, a contemporary Australian, beachside restaurant with a stunning view and incredible menu to match! We started off with two of their signature cocktails – the Chanel No 6, which was sweet and bubbly, and the Whitewater Martini, a zesty lime-based cocktail that was so refreshing!

Visiting Manly a storm hit so I hit the Whitewater for lunch. It was amazing. Great view, wonderful menu. Sparkling water, then Martinis and oysters. The seafood for the entree was excellent. Wine perfect. Cheese and port then coffee and desert.... Marvelous. It was difficult to leave. Thanks so much! #fromohio

To say Whitewater didn't live up to my expectations would be an understatement. Entree's were average, two people ordered scallops which were overcooked, the lemon spiced grilled prawns ended up being prawns with rocket in a lemon grass and coconut milky cold oily liquid(average), duck spring roles...bland. Mains unfortunately didn't get much better apart from the Barramundi which was cooked perfectly but accompanied by a bland beetroot risotto. Pork belly was dry and overcooked which is such a shame everyone loves pork belly, the tuna was ok, scallop and beetroot risotto again overcooked and bland. After living in manly for years and walking past Whitewater 4-5 times a week, we finally thought we try it out with the whole family, but unfortunately we were left disappointed. it may have been a bad night and may have just gotten a couple of bad dishes, but we will not be back especially when there is so many great and reliably amazing options in manly.

Disappointing from beginning to end. It is special when I go out for lunch with my mother and my two twenty something daughters. Unfortunately our experience from service, to quality of the food was pretty bad. We were sitting for at least twenty minutes before a menu was given to us. The waitress although sweet was totally untrained.we asked questions as to number of servings in the entrees as we wanted to share and she got it totally wrong so we underordered and overordered based on her advice. When our $60 bottle of wine finally arrived after we had eaten our starters, the glasses were placed amongst the now cluttered table full of empty dishes. The waitress poured the wine and then left us to clear our used dishes onto the table next to us.IT WAS A WEDNESDAY LUNCH AND NOT THAT BUSY BY THE WAY. The fish tacos we ordered were big battered pieces of fish served in a hard taco shell, I have never had this before. Difficult to eat and just not right. The steak we asked for to be served medium was well and truly well done. The salad accompanying it was tiny and lacked much in the green department. At the end of the meal I felt compelled to tell the manager how disappointed we were and why to which he replied that he was 'sorry about that' but no offer of any compensation. A restaurant in this price range should def train their staff and care about their customers' experience. My advice...don't bother. The managemnent should stop trading on the obvious great location and start producing great food and service that makes the experience one that we would wish to repeat.

Asides Beaches, Sydney is also known for their fresh seafood. So what can be better than a combination of both? A seafood restaurant on the promenade of the beach! Thanks to Daniel of Excuse me waiter, a group of us food bloggers attended a seafood fuelled lunch at Whitewater Manly.

Whitewater is the fancier sister restaurant to café ‘Bluewater’ a couple of shops down the Styne. Elegantly fit out, with prominent shades of white, an open glass fireplace and beautiful exposed brickwork – perfect for a special occasion but with no pretences, is also great for a relaxed meal any time of day. With the sun starting to poke its head out behind the grey clouds we thought we’d get into the spirit and

Sweet summer corn, chilli, lime and truffle parmesan...The corn was surprisingly very chilli! It was charred well with the smokey flavours seeping into each individual kernel of corn. It wasn’t as juicy as Gourmet Gumbo would have liked, but the seasoning of lime helped give it some moisture.

Whitewater is located opposite the beach and has a stunning view of the water. It’s super convenient to get to although you should plan to get there early to find parking on sunny days like the one that we visited on! Atmosphere Whitewater has a very bright and modern interior with white ceilings and a wooden roof, exposed brick walls and beautiful beach-style accents such as shells and nets. It has a fresh and inviting look and it’s sleek design suits the Modern Australian menu and beachside location.

When I saw that the menu had a lobster dish I knew that I had to order it. As expected the lobster itself was a bit small in portion but it sure was delicious. I also really enjoyed the lemon butter sauce, it’s a great sauce for lobster but also works really well with the chips served on the side.

English En Français! I drank a coco-mango daiquiri (made of mango sorbet) which was refreshing and a strawberry mocktail (because we went swimming afterwards) J’ai bu un daiquiri à la noix de coco et à la mangue qui était rafraichissant et un mocktail à la fraise (sans alcool, la fête est plus folle!) car nous avions prévu nos maillots pour nous rendre à la plage! Roasted Chinese duck with house made pancakes, shallots, cucumber and plum hoisin sauce (pancakes fait maison et canard à la pekinoise) AUD 22.95 English Français We ordered three starters to share. The first one was a chinese classic:

Whitewater is a beautiful restaurant in such a lovely location looking out across to Manly beach. As you'd expect from its location it has a wide range of seafood options, but there's also plenty of other choices here as well. Whitewater is cosy, comfortable and yet quite a chic venue. There's a strong use of natural timber and stone giving the whole place a rustic boathouse feel.
Excuse Me Waiter
Whitewater Restaurant is an absolute gem of a restaurant that lives up to its bold claims on its menu, with well executed dishes, sleek decor and a gorgeous view of the beach. While it’s certainly on the pricier end of the dining spectrum, Whitewater is a wonderful spot to celebrate a special occasion or to treat yourself to the best steak in town and is well worth the price.

Good location, good menu and wine list. Staff are mostly back packers but pleasant enough. I had half lobster for starter: over priced and not good value. Angus steak for main; asked for medium rare and got well done!

Great late brekkie. When everywhere else had moved on to lunch, found this place for a late (11.30) brekkie on a sat.
Great service, great kids menu with things to keep them entertained
Food was good & location great

Great food, great service, great night.. Lovely location right on Manly Beach front. Great menu choices, which were affordable for what appeared to be an upmarket restaurant. Warm and friendly service, with good advice on food choice and wine. Would eat here again and highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a nice, relaxing night out with friends or family in Manly.

Worth checking out. Hubby and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The pork belly was amazing easily rivaling that of Pilu. The duck spring rolls were yum and good size. Location looking onto Manly beach on a balmy night is superb. We did order 2 glasses of sav blanc which were room temp instead of cool and crisp. We said nothing but our waiter saw our disapproval and immediately asked if all was ok.he then immediately brought us two cold crisp glasses of sav blanc. Any restaurant can make a mistake but its how it's handled that counts.and they handled it great. Would def recommend and go back.

Great decor, great service...not so great food.. White water should be credited with having a top spot with attentive service. What it cannot be credited with is serving good food.
The beef carpaccio was tasteless and unlike every other Ive had. The reason, it was a rare roasted steak cut into 5-10mm strips...it was tasteless. It was a pitiful effort for an opening dish.
Mains was acceptable...but again the lemon tart was more akin to a bland tea cake.
Whitewater had everything...but good food.

Not great... really, really, not great!. After several phone calls and two emails between myself and Sacha from Whitewater, I thought my birthday dinner would go to plan. However, after arriving and finding our name not even on the reservations list, things weren't off to a good start.
The wait staff didn't even go close to an apology for forgetting our reservation, which I thought was strange - considering how much communication we'd had to ensure the night went as planned, but I thought I'd try to forget this first error and just move on with our night. This wasn't going to be so easy -the first thing that arrived was bread clearly purchased from Coles about a week ago, seriously - for a supposedly classy restaurant, it was the worst bread I've ever tasted. Of course, bread isn't the most important thing in the world - but it is one of the simplest! I think, if a restaurant can't even put descent bread on the table before the meal, then what chance do they have of putting a descent main course on the table?.. and my suspicions were correct. From the first course to the last - I was constantly disappointed (and I'm very easy to please!) the duck was dry, the fillet was cold, the pasta was so under cooked it didn't even make it to al dente - it was still anti dente...
A basic summery of my experience of Whitewater at manly; Attentive but disgustingly, offensively arrogant waitstaff, clean but incredibly cheesy and overdressed interior, beyond substandard tasting food.
My advise - A frozen home-brand meat pie from Coles, thawed-out via the farts of a diseased elephant, eaten plate-less off the chest of a leper, would make for a better food experience than anything found at Whitewater.

Where are the real critics??. I have read the reviews from Real Critics for this place and so called bloggers, are you kidding me?
I thought they are supposed to visist a venue, try the food and then provide a review that gives us "Food plebs" some guidence.. Well it seems the so called bloggers and Critics are nothing but paid marketing agents as nothing I read about their reviews is worth reading, might as well just believe that all is great in the kitchens of OZ..

Strolling through Manly we dicide to drop in for dinner about 7.00PM, the place is in a stunning location with great ambience, and thats where it ends. Nice but Clueless wait staff, managed by clueless manager, food was average at best and prices are over the top, I get it we are paying for opposite beach prices, but for goodness sake imagine if they provided better food with some real service..
My food arrived so late that it was not funny. Sorry, but not what I expected.

Sorry to say it, but don't ever eat any food here, go to the takeaway. seriously it was actually terrible. the fish had died long before being caught, and the broccoli was salvaged from the chook bucket. lucky the server was sweet, but feeling absolutely robbed after receiving a bill for 105 dollars! do yourself a favour.. stay home.

Meals were fast (and tasteless). Service in between was slow and no attention to detail (eg waited 20mins after being seated before anyone attended to us, no refilling of water, slow to clear plates)... For $130, disappointing.

Came here for brunch in the weekend. It wasn't completely packed. Nice view of the waterfront and comfy booth seats. I ordered the baked eggs with smoked salmon. I was expected the eggs to come out in a ramekin of some sort but it looked more like 2 fried eggs so nothing to rave about. The smoked salmon was a very strong and salty and I love smoked salmon so I left a lot of this on my plate. My friend had the omelette which looked amazing and she said it tasted great. Definitely food envy there.

Xmas lunch 2013. We are from Queensland on holiday in manly for Xmas. We booked lunch there on Xmas day this year following a good dining experience in September 2012. Our first impression was the lack of Xmas atmosphere, the Xmas crackers were really cheap an insult considering the overall cost of the meal. For the entree we were served three small scallops on a long rectangular plate, followed by turkey roll on a red cabbage base with. Cranberry sauce topping. Other vegetables were non existent. One member of our party had three very small portions of different fish and a small portion of A potato bake. Disappointing. The desserts were alright, we had a choice of two. For $120.00 a head this was a very disappointing experience. Coffee and all drinks were excluded in this price.

12 for Dinner - disappointing. There were 12 of us after a day in conference. Whitewater seemed like it should be good. Regrettably, it was not. The staff were, mostly, friendly and attentive. However the meal order was slow in being taken. My Tuna Tataki entree was very well presented, but a bit bland. For mains I am often tempted by pork belly, as I was tonight. "twice cooked crispy crackling, served with parsnip puree, stewed apple, seared scallops and current compote". Again, well presented, and flavoursome. However the crackling was more leather than crisp (see picture). Others at the table reported that theirs was the same, and even overcooked. Someone else had the Fillet steak, which was overdone, as was someone else's whole baby snapper. Granted there were twelve of us, and this can present some challenges, but I think Whitewater didn't rise to those challenges. 6.5 out of 10 from me tonight.

Always good. Lovely location with sea views, and the restaurant itself has a good atmosphere. Great food and service! Desserts are to die for!

The food is decent service is not great. If they made it better they could kill it here.

Good from afar, far from good. I concur with every negative review. Uninterested and inexperienced staff - check. Slow, poor service - check. Good sounding menu - pathetic delivery. Tasteless, poorly presented breakfast, for the first meal of my day I left quite angry. Rubbish. Many staff scurrying around trying to look busy but achieving nothing. They can't get orders right and when time comes for the bill, make sure you check it as they like to make you pay for things you shouldn't like a drink that was part of a child's meal. Put simply, they suffer as a whole from NFI. We will never go there again and will discourage anyone we know fom doing the same. Very sad especially when there are some great places in manly.

Very poor, inattentive service. Bland, overpriced food. Chips were good, but I won't be returning.

Sad...new ownership. We totally have always enjoyed our experience at Whitewater. Always the food and presentation have been consistent and exceptional. HOWEVER, last Sunday (July 28) we found the food very average, I would say we've had far better in the local pubs. In asking, apparently the restaurant has has a change elf ownership, and unfortunately, in our opinion, the past passion and culinary expertise just wasn't there. My wife had linguini & prawns, she was given dried, seemed like packet pasta and commercial tomato base AND just 4 prawns. My mixed seafood pasta was similar, I think I only found one small piece of fish, one calamari ring and 3 prawns. Pretty sad and obviously backpacker servers as there just wasn't the level on staff from the previous owners. One local girl was terrific and seemed to do most of the table work, she said she had only been there for a few days. They need to keep her. BUT, sadly, we won't be back. Whitewater is lost at sea.

Disappointing prawn linguine. Soggy pasta, tasteless passata but others enjoyed their meal. Wonderful view

Slow service, below average food. Recent visit for breakfast. We chose whitewater as the view across the road to the beach is stunning.

Service was very slow even though the cafe was not busy. It took 25 minutes to get our coffees, and 40 minutes to get the food. It was the milkiest latte I've had ... almost could have been called whitewater.

The eggs benedict was below average, nothing interesting or surprising. The tasting plate was unimaginative, including burnt toast and overcooked fried eggs. Perhaps that's what happens when it takes 40 minutes to prepare.

The slow service and delivery stressed me about missing check-out time at our hotel. Not good.

Mixed reactions. Went for lunch on 14th May.
The restaurant was not full or busy. had just a few customers.
Unshaven owner/manager saw us enter and wait inside the restaurant.
Did not smile or greet us. Did not acknowledge that we were waiting.
We observed that he had just served a wrong order to an Asian lady next to us.
A blonde waitress greeted us finally and asked us to sit anywhere.
We sat for a while and got served water.
The owner/manager took our order (without a smile).
I ordered the Chef's special - Mozarella in Carraza eggplant crumbed with cheese & tomato $24
My partner ordered peas risotto with monkfish $24 as well.
My order was stuffed up. Did not have any eggplant in it.
All it had was 2 small pieces of crumbed squared bread with cheese & tomato in tomato based sauce. Pretty crap. Did not like it. Basically it was not worth $24 and it missed the main ingredient - Eggplant.
Monkfish with peas risotto was well prepared & my partner liked it.
But we were disappointed that my dish was not worth it.
Will never return.
Service was crap. The unshaven dude needs to learn customer service skills. If he can't serve, he should hire people to do the job.
Will definitely recommend people to stay away and try some other restaurant on the cafe strip.

It always amazes me how Chefs, Managers or restaurant owners treat complaints. Whether right or wrong, ALL customers give these people their livlihoods. We pay their mortgages, bills and ironically put food in THEIR mouths. Food and drink is very subjective, and so any top, top restaraunt will always take into account different clients' comments and expectations. Whitewater unfortunately, did not for me with a simple cup of coffee last Monday. First; I was brought the wrong coffee, Second; I was brought the wrong milk, Third; I was brought a cold coffee. All of these things, and the fact my Waiter could hardly speak English, I could accept - sh|t happens. But the unshaven, stern faced arrogant boss that practically 'squared up to me' at my table is where I draw the line. Shocking beyond words.

Thank God for the internet.

If you visit Manly, stroll towards Shelley Beach along the coast path (to your right as you stare at the sea). A 10 minute walk will bring you to much friendlier, relaxed cafes/restaurants. The icing on the cake is they have better views and no busy traffic going by.

Just wish I'd known this beforehand.

Exceptional. I visited this restaurant last Tuesday night after readying the article in the Manley daily about there home made lemon moraine by there chef (ex armani P C) and wow from there entries to the mains and dessert I was really impressed to have them in my local area delivering this quality of food ,ah on another note I won't say there service is 10/10 but close enough ,it not as bad as the last review is made out to be. So well done guys keep up the good work because I will be back

Not Impresses at all!. My partner and I had dinner last night at Whitewater. We have been going to this restaurant since it first opened and have seen how fantastic the food and service can be.

Since the Platinum Group has taken over, they do not seem to care about service (no understanding of wines or dealing with complaints) and the food is very hit and miss. If you complain about the cooking of the food, the Chef becomes argumentative, for example, the lobster special was over grilled so much that it was dry and chewing, the slow roast beef medallion medium to well was very well done.

When I sent my beef back they did not take back my partners dish or the side dishes, expecting him to eat alone?

Honestly by the time you receive the dish the way it should be cooked you loose your appetite.

Best place to dine in whole Manly, great food and service, highly recommended

Great experience for the first time visit, good food, excellent service for a very reasonable price, the water view was amazing while dining outdoor. In one word amazing

Yuck. Just Don't.. Having been to this establishment many times over the past 12 months I suppose a certain level of expectation had been set. We went to Whitewater with my parents who were visiting on Friday night - absolutely devastated to say the least.

For entree my scallops which are "apparently" served with cauliflower puree and microherbs and usually served on a long plate were presented in a badly chipped cereal bowl with no puree and two leaves from microherbs - I have had this dish every time we have eaten there and it was gross this time.

My mother's chicken was dry dry dry and French lentils undercooked - to the point she couldn't eat it as she thought she might choke. We said something to the staff regarding this and they claimed it was because we had asked them to ensure the dish was gluten free as mum is a coeliac "normally there is a sauce" despite no mention of a "sauce" on the menu at all.

The above was mentioned to staff and met with excuses and false apologies.

Chefs need to be reminded that the kitchen is open and patrons can see their eye rolling and gesticulations.... "the customer is always right" - remember that old one?

Service was an absolute disaster, I understand Manly has quite a transient workforce but it seemed no one was correctly trained on the procedures or products at that nor could they communicate efficiently.

Beyond upset and will not return based on current staffing, which is sad as it was one of our favourite restaurants in Manly.

Don't...... Seriously ordinary. Duck entree cut thick like a steak & tough. Clearly had been in the fridge a couple of days. Wagyu beef requested medium rare & came of blue with a very poor side off bitter red cabbage. Wine list was disgraceful, spent $48 on a burgundy to start with which was like an oxidized 10 year old $10 red followed by a $78 Mr Riggs from McLaren Vale. If this wine was worth anything more than $13 I will be astounded.

Whitewater waste. This restaurant is overrated. I concur with the previous review -- wait staff completely disinterested, food average and way over priced. Do not go --there are many many better restaurants in Manly.
Susan
Way Below Average. Such a disaster - we were completely ignored by the waiter. Thought he wanted us to leave as he wasn't interested in taking a drink order, food order or anything. When drinks were dry, never asked if we wanted more. Never refilled water glasses. Cleared one entree plate and left side plates covered in prawn shells until after he served the main course. MAin was served with no cutlery, had to request some. Most food was average except the steak - ordered it rare, it was served medium well. Sent it back and received a new one, which was blue. Ate that, but all other food was cold. Shocking service, average food, very expensive. Don't go!

Good casual dining place - suits lunch better - always liked the simple food but it used to be better a couple of years ago - my last dinner here was disappointing but will give it another go
Alex
We'll be back. Thankfully the incredible food more than makes up for the very average service.

Came here for lunch yesterday. Great view, food was ok, service wad crap and very overpriced. $13 for bruscetta that had little onion and slices of tomato (not finely chopped tomato). Lazy bruscetta. The waiter took my order, someone else served my food and bill. I wanted another drink but he was never around and was barely audible when he spoke. Plenty of other restaurants here that are better, cheaper and with the same view.

We went there for lunch yesterday. Beautiful setting but food is waaaY overpriced. It cost us 70 dollars for lunch and all we had was a couple if softdrinks, a chicken Caesar salad, chips and a burger. Service was good but the food was horrible. The chicken salad had dried up old chicken, no croutons, watery sauce and was basically just lettuce. I love Caesar salads but this one was disgusting. Burger was so so. Not worth the money people!!!

Location & Ambiance. Its Christmas time down here in Australia, and how better can you spend an afternoon lunching on one of the finest waterfronts....(Self funded I will add :-) )

I enjoyed the delicately crafted Lasagne, and its weird for me to mention the ultimate delight in the truffle butter that came with the bread rolls. Did I mention the winelist...Mwah!

Service with a smile and @ an affordable (premium) lunch dining experience.

Well worth stopping by if your in the area.

Liked it, didn't love it. Went here a few weeks after going to bluewater cafe because bluewater was full and we didn't want to wait to eat - there was a reason bluewater was packed and whitewater wasn't. They're only 3 doors up from eachother and while the service at whitewater is better, the food leaves you unfulfilled. It's not bad food, just not great. The toast was burnt, the omlette like something you make at home and the orange juice wasn't fresh.

7/10 A great dining experience. A classy establishment, but with a laid back beach feel about it. The food was fabulous but the service was below what I expected. An example of this is presenting entrees that were not ordered, so nothing serious. The Duck Pancakes were fabulous. Ask to sit on the lower level, the upper level is very noisy once the restaurant is full. Definitely recommended
BenG
Wonderful food, attentive but laid back and friendly staff in an atmosphere which is buzzing without being too busy. Open kitchen is a great touch and the ability to buy items like individual oysters means you can try so much of the menu in an evening. Highly recommended!

Amazingly Rude Staff in an Empty Restaurant. I ate here a couple weeks ago for a friends birthday. She grew up in Manly and had high expectations for this place,. It was a Monday afternoon, the place had 2 couple sitting near the main street and the rest of the restaurant was empty. I ordered 2 beers from the bar after the rest of the group had all ready been served while waiting, seated in the lounge. The bartender (mid 30's with dark brown curly hair) said he would bring them right over. The beers were put on the bar counter promptly, we were seated and about 15 minutes later I returned to the bar to pay for the drinks. The bar tender was extremely rude! He told me to sit back down, that he would bring them over and add them to our tab. I got the beers about 5 minutes later. Our server (looks like the poker player Patrik Antonius) was great until the very end. By this time, there was 1 more couple seated by the street but there was a red head girl running back and forth attending to them. Our friends mum had ordered a coffee and 1 beer was also ordered. Again, it took a long time for such a simple order and my girlfriend started saying how slow the service was just as our waiter was bringing up the drinks. He chimed in with something along the lines of "we have other drinks/people to serve to you know." We all dropped our jaw at the comment, looked around the restaurant but it was still very empty. The $300+ bill came and we reluctantly handed over the money but there was no way we were about to leave a tip with such horrible, confrontational service. I cant imagine how the staff would handle anything close to a busy night. On a good note, the food was excellent and if it weren't for the staff, I would definitely have recommended and brought others to this restaurant.

Recommend to include it in any visit to Sydney. Excellent setting with wonderful food. Good idea to book.
