Review Market Lane Cafe - Manly

Madeline Kulmar
Hands down THE best cafe for breakfast/lunch in Manly - consistently delicious food from a wonderful group of people. Plenty of gluten free options (much appreciated!) + extremely family/pet friendly spot. Highly recommend the scrambled eggs on GF toast with a side of smoke salmon *chefs kiss* Can’t wait to go back!

Mixed experience here in the past, but particularly disappointing last weekend. The cafe was very busy and only seemed to have two quite young children working as runners across the entire outside space, who seemed incredibly overrun and lacked support. We had a soy latte that had split. It happens at times, but never have we had a barista argue back (via the young girl running the coffees) that soy lattes ‘just do that’, as if we should be happy to pay 3-4$ for a split coffee. If you can’t make it don’t serve it. Edit: the owner should be celebrated for their recognition of how entitlement works. When goods are paid for the payee is indeed entitled to receive them. Preferably without having to insist twice that it should be drinkable, and without service that is reminiscent of the days when children worked the mines.

Felt I had to respond to the recent review from Michael complaining about how young a couple of the waiting staff are. As a regular Market Lane customer I’ve always found these girls to be so friendly, efficient and professional. Good for them to have taken the initiative to get themselves a holiday job. I think it’s great to see young locals earning money and gaining experience that will help them in future life. One of my very first jobs was waitressing and I learnt heaps about customer service, taking responsibility and working in a team from this.

Best coffee & muffins in Manly! Popular with locals and tourists alike. A wonderful little gem of a cafe with excellent food, coffee and service. Dog-friendly with outdoor seating. Close to Whistler car park and Woolworth Metro next door. Plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans. It tastes as good as it looks. Great little place for breakfast and brunch.

Market lane is the best spot for coffee & breaky/lunch in manly. They’re staff work so hard considering they are busy on the daily & they still provide you with the best food & coffee. Wouldn’t go anywhere else!!! ❤️

Coffee is good and breakfasts great. Good location to catch the morning sun and watch people walk by.

Disappointed by the attitude of the guys and manager working behind the bar. They forgot a part of my order, then when I asked for it later, they chased me down (twice) to pay for it when I had already paid. I had to access my internet banking on my phone to show them I had in fact paid. Food is great, but didn’t appreciate the third degree on a sat morning breakfast.

One of the beset Cafe's I have been too! Staff are extremely friendly and helpful, food is amazing. The Chicken Wrap is one of the best i have ever eaten. The entire menu looks amazing and not to mention the naughty juices. Will defiantly be back and a place to recommend to everyone i know. Thank you Market Lane!

Nice food but horrendous customer service. We first walked in and sat at a table. I politely let the waitress know there was a spill by the table and she followed by rudely saying ‘I know I know give me a minute to clean it up.’ So this made us uncomfortable before we even ordered. The tables are small round and barely fit two people at them let alone anymore. The food came out and was very nice but because of the space, my plate was only half on the table and flipped on the floor. Two of the staff clearly saw it happen and were talking behind the counter, obviously thinking I couldn’t hear the whole conversation of one offering to give me another meal and the other saying no. The same waitress from previously. I wasn’t expecting another meal, but it would’ve been nice if someone at least offered something for me to clean myself up with. The waitress then walked out pretending like she had only just seen the food on the floor, cleaned it up and walked away. The whole experience was awful and made worse by the lack of acknowledgement and customer service.

I love the customer service - always friendly & helpful! I love the chai tea - it's the best in Manly! I love the simple but yummy menu! I love that there's gluten free bread, I love that it gets the sunshine! I love this place!

coffee = very dissappointing. ordered a soy FW and it was 80% foam. sad :( but the food was epic : the muffins are delish and the hommus toast was great value

Brilliant vegan food! I am normally skeptical of a vegan bowl but this blew away my expectations. The preserved lemon and tomato accompaniment was just lovely and I was very impressed with the vegan feta which had a great texture and flavour. My only recommendation is to source tastier gluten free bread options and to work on the prana chai. Whilst lovely, it could have done with stronger flavour. All in all, incredibly impressed by the bowl and the cauliflower was simply superb. Will visit again!

On a delightful 26 degree winter's day in Sydney, the Market Lane Cafe is the place you want to be! It's super popular and so central that whilst dining you can hear pedestrians amble past making comments like "that looks so good". A tourist even walked past and took a photo of me diving into my poached eggs! Breakfast is served from 6.30am and has all the popular dishes you would expect. The grilled halloumi with two poached eggs, asparagus, avo and preserved lemon is so delicious and tasty. The acai bowl is filled with the good stuff and topped with banana, Sonoma muesli and plenty of coconut! Make sure you order a coffee too; it's delicious!

Market Lane is a great little cafe that's always busy with people enjoying their morning coffee and a good brekkie. Their food is delicious, but the serving sizes are small for their prices. Coffee is quite good too!!

Up there with the best coffee in Manly, even the northern beaches!

Also hands-down the most amazing muffins - blueberry ricotta deliciousness... and insane chocolate chip cookies.

It does get incredibly busy and they could use a few more staff to keep things moving smoothly.

But overall an awesome cafe in Manly

Beautiful seasonal changing menu and quality coffee. Can get totally packed out with thirsty locals, but for good reasons, however service can sometimes slip because of its bursting sides.

My favourite little cafe in Manly continues to pop out great little meals and delicious coffee. The salmon breakfast bruschetta remains my favourite. And I love the little blankets provided for the outside dining during winter!

Our regular brekkie place in Manly. One of the best coffees in Manly, good food and friendly staff. Highly recommend to all. My favourite is salmon bruchetta.

Sunny spot.great coffee. This is my regular spot for coffee or breaky in Manly.
The breakfast plate with ham, avocado, Meredith Goats cheese, oven roasted tomato and a poached egg on toast is delicious. Coffee consistently good and whilst crowded you never get the feeling that you should move on.
All in all,a friendly cafe with a good vibe and great fare.

Attitude. There is nothing quite like sitting at a new cafe being ignored then having to get up and ask if it's table service or pay at the counter . Quick tip sweetheart reindeer antlers and tats does not make you cool but a smile does.

Awesome little cafe. Went to Market Lane Café for a late breakfast. The café is quite small with very limited seating, so you may have to wait for seating to become available. Service was very quick and the food thoroughly enjoyed. We had smoked salmon with cream fraiche on sourdough, as well as bruschetta.
Akulmar
Inconsistent. This place used to be my favourite but lately they have been very inconsistent. One day you get an amazing breakfast and then next you get the last piece of the toast which is half the size. They also make a lot of mistakes with the orders.

Ok.... One of the few cafes in manly that doesn't offer a gluten free bread option even though they advertise as 'gluten free friendly'. Fruit and yoghurt plate is way over priced at $14 with over ripe bananas and shriveled blue berries and an egg cup size serve of yoghurt. Banana ricotta cinnamon served on fruit toast was pretty uneventful, sliced banana on ricotta on soggy 1 slice of soggy fruit toast. The one saving grace was the coffee, it was great even if it was made by another grumpy barista with attitude.

There's too many good cafes in manly for us to try this one again.

Great coffee, food and atmosphere. Came to Sydney from Melbourne and found this place.
Ticks all the boxes, coffee, food, atmosphere, even has disinterested staff which adds a little edge.

The space is tight but beats all the other places I tried. Great to see a few women driving the coffee machine and doing a great job.
Congrats, keep up the high standards.
CP
