not generally opened. according to Google, the place is opened when we went (12-1:45 Tuesday) but the reception desk informed us that the dining room is opened only a few weeks a year by invitation and that we could view their dinning room by visiting their website (that's go away said very politely). the small cafe just outside is opened for lunch until 1pm however and we had some good pulled pork pie to take away

Architecturally splendid building; commanding location; period, wood-panelled room; calm atmosphere (could perhaps be too genteel for some - expect an older clientele); perfectly cooked and delicious food in sensibly sized portions; unhurried but attentive and friendly service; unbeatable pricing (literally almost half what you'd expect to pay for a similar experience elsewhere, and that includes the drinks) - thumbs up all round
