Review Thai Tamarind - Margaret River

The staff are friendly and nice. The food also tasted nice. Price was reasonable. We had pad thai and no problems. The food was presented nicely also.

Rainy day when nothing was open yet but they welcomed us before even opening the doors to customers. Ordered the banquet for 4 people and everything was delicious and fresh. Pad Thai, Tom yum soup, red curry, mango sticky rice desert. Finished with a jasmine tea. Will come back for sure. Pleasant experience overall.

Reading the other reviews scared us a little but why not give it a go. We stayed around town and the location is convenient. The meals are good portions and suits our Asian tastebud just fine. Price wise, it's cheaper than the other Asian place down the road. We came back to get takeaways two nights in a row because it was that good. We had satay chicken, fried rice, chicken stir fry with ginger, and egg noodles with chicken. Check out the pics, we started eating and forgot to take photos at the start. Worth a visit!

Some of the best Thai food I've ever had!! In the top 3 for sure! I've travelled all around Thailand and we're always trying new places around. Quickest food arrival ever, staff were polite and attentive. Will definitely come back down from Perth again ☺

Friendly staff, the restaurant is small and cosy and quite central, plenty of street parking. Portion is small otherwise not too bad.

Check the prices. The food was good, the massaman was tasty but was more sauce then meat and vege (only meat). We asked for a Thai omelet over the phone, was shocked to find out when we arrived that we were paying $17 for a few eggs. How can we pay the same price for a stir fry for 3 eggs? It also wasn’t a Thai omelette.

Wasn't a lot of options in town for oriental dishes so came here. Went back the next day because it was so delicious. Most flavoursome fried rice I've ever had. Definitely recommend.

The food was excellent , we ordered a mix of meals , pad Thai, curry’s , entrees and everything was really good. Wish this was my local in Perth !! I would recommend booking as it does get busy quickly

This is hands down the worst Thai restaurant that we've EVER been to. Unfortunately the food was not authentic at all nor value for money. We had three dishes and 2 rice and the price was literally cents shy of $80. Most of the dish is filled with random veg and the flavour is lacking and not thai. So so disappointed we paid and left.

Basic looking restaurant with very tasty food!! Decent service and cheap corkage at only $3.50 per bottle. Spicy crispy chicken was a real highlight! 🤕

Way too expensive for what it is. One plate was alright but the other was almost not cooked and tasteless, even for a vegan/vegetarian dish the price is the same and you have to pay for the rice separately... The service was fine but when you pay $60 for two you expect much better than this. Nothing in the plate justify such a price !
DAMMIT JANET I LOVE FOOD
One of the few Asian restaurants in Margaret River, this place offered prompt service but average Thai fare. The ventilation here could also be improved as we left smelling strongly of stir fry.

We had chicken satay, fried tofu for appetiser and they were so chewy and dry. Our main meal, duck and pad thai chicken was average. When we told the chief that the satay chicken was chewy and dry. Instead of apologising, he just said did you return it? We explained that its not about returning the food it is about serving good and honest fresh food.

All in all not a good experience.

My wife and I had some take away last week while staying in the area and we wish we hadn't. The Green chicken curry was watery and had none of the ingredients you want or expect in it and I had the jungle curry that was so watery and lacking flavour I had to put some of the broth from the wife's curry into it to make it interesting. Really disappointing. Won't be back!

I was disappointed by this restaurant. I ordered a seafood curry, it had one prawn and one mussel. Not great for $25! What a shame as this could be a better place with better treatment of the food.

Despite the reviews, we were impressed.. Went to Thai Tamarind last night for a friends birthday, table of eight outside. We were a little hesitant due to some unflattering reviews but I have to say we were impressed. Service was great, portions were generous and the food was really delicious. Great flavours, fresh ingredients, nice spice and heat. Meat in all the dishes (pork and apple salad, beef salad, squid salad, chicken satay, seafood laksa and masasman beef) was succulent, fresh and generous in size. As a connoisseur of Massaman I can honestly say it was one of the best I've ever had. Complex with a hint of smoke, delicious. Only criticism was the dishes did come out over a period of about ten minutes and the coconut rice was perhaps a little dry, but hey, it's not fine dining so no big deal. The bill came to $250 for eight of us, entree's and mains. We all left full and satisfied. Whatever may have caused the bad reviews in the past seems to have been attended to. Give them a go!
Gian from Busselton

Amazing food and service. Saw a few bad reviews but went anyway there were six of us including two children, the food looked and tasted lovely and was full of flavour
the portions were large enough for two to share and well worth the price which we think was reasonable the staff were very friendly and accommodating all the meals were freshly cooked from scratch and would definitely go back and recommend to others thanks for a wonderful evening ladies at thai tamarind

Great flavours!. We got the vegetable jungle curry and chicken massaman, both had unique and tangy flavours, absolutely yummy! Different from the usual coconut based red/green thai curries. Waitress gave helpful suggestions- note the jungle curry is supposed to be soupy. Generous rice servings. My tip- We said spicy but it was crazy hot! Will go for medium next time.

Not worth trying. Really ordinary food and so over priced. We paid more for the food there than the Must Wine Bar nearby. Give it a miss.

Bland bland bland. Dont waste you're money

Good service despite food not on par. The service was good, from ordering, table setting (we had a rocking table and the owner helped us to level it well), getting take away box for leftover food and check out.
However, the food was disappointing. Overall I could not find any Thai favour. The fried rice is way too soaky. The seafood option only comes with one normal (size) and one small prawn, some not so fresh squids and quite a few mussels without shell. The fried noodle got relatively many chicken, but the noodle was just as mean as unexpected. Probably it was just 1/4 to 1/5 to what the normal noodle portion should be.

Totally Fine Choice!. Just ordered takeaway from this place. They use chicken breast meat which might be a little dry but leaner so this is my preference. Flavours were good, no complaints. Ordered a green curry, satay chicken, and laksa. Lots of vegetables in both laksa and curry which can be lacking at other places. Ordered medium spice and that's what we got. Totally fine choice for a quick Thai takeaway in a small community.

Bland, chewy and just awful. I was so excited for the seafood fried rice and garlic chicken with added egg noodles and all I can say is it was extremely disappointing. The special fried rice was just plain with no flavour and the seafood -bland and chewy. The garlic chicken had no garlic whatsoever ever and the noodles were stuck together in a ball of mush. I don't recommend this restaurant at all.

Had garlic chicken and pepper which was dreadful. We added noodles which were simply clumps. The seafood rice was bland and all the seafood tasted of nothing. Don't waste your money!

Didn't understand gluten free despite being GF friendly, they messed up my order therefore was late had no apology, the Thai was average at best and cost over $30 per head and we didn't even buy a drink

NOT vegan friendly. I've no idea why Thai Tamarind comes up as vegan friendly because it certainly is not. My partner and I dined here a couple of nights ago - I am vegan, he is not. I was given a choice of just 2 vegan options - sweet & sour vegies or stir fried vegies with a soybean sauce - similar vegies in both dishes. All their other sauces (eg. pad thai sauce, peanut sauce) contain fish sauce so are not vegan. I opted for the vegies with soy sauce and added tofu plus steamed rice. It was pleasant enough but not what I had hoped for (have been to many other Thai restaurants who have many more vegan options).
My partner ordered 1 order of vegie spring rolls, and a main of crispy fish with vegetables. We ordered no drinks and did not BYO. Price was just under $70.

Very very overpriced. The food was satisfying but the service was average. They forgot our rice and meals came out sporaticly over about 15 minutes. They made a mistake with the bill meaning we had to fork out even more money because they weren't prepared to wear the error. I left with a very sour taste in my mouth. I will never go back.

I ordered the jungle curry it was more like a soup than a curry. It also had peas, broccoli and cabbage in it. I would not recommend this place to anyone. $30 for a watery curry and some rice. No thanks

I love supporting local business so I'm just going to make some suggestions. I would recommend that the staff not prepare chicken and duck in full view of the guests when they come into the restaurant. My very first impression was the chicken sliced open and someone dissecting its insides with no gloves on. Same with the duck in the background.

The Pad Thai looks, tastes and feels like it was microwaved. The meat was very dry, neatly biltong dry. The meal had certainly formed the shape of the plastic tub so I was very uncertain it was fresh. The meal as a whole was lacking a lot of flavour.

The good news is that the staff are friendly and prompt.

You have the ability to make an amazing restaurant, just needs a bit more effort and thought.

Best Thai ever. If you find yourself in Margaret River you must visit this place. Its small but the staff and food make up for that. Tasty and plentiful. We will be going back again.

I have lived in Margaret River for over 15 years and I was shocked when a meal for two people came to 89 dollars! And one dish was a soup!!!!. If you compare their fried rice dish costs $18.90 for meat and $21.90 for seafood or lamb and the same dish in busselton costs $7.80 for a large there is no comparison. Talk about Margaret River mark up.

What a gem!. This place doesn't look like much at first as its small and squashed in but the food is really really delicious and well priced! The staff are also very attentive and friendly! If you like Thai food you will love this place! Don't forget to BYO wine!

This is the only Thai that we could find in Margaret river - ordinary at absolute best. We had a Tom yum soup, which had fried fish in it, which tasted like soaked cardboard. We also had a green curry which came out yellow and has things like broccoli and Chinese cabbage in it, when I enquired about the green curry being yellow I was told that "it was because of the chilli that the green curry had turned yellow". Overpriced to say the least!

Service has improved 100 times! Awesome! Friendly, great food! Love it.

Most expensive spring rolls that taste below average.
Pha Thai chicken tastefar below average and chicken does not taste fresh.
Beef Red Curry had far too much vegetables in it then Beef.
Overall experience: not impressed with food qualities and its far overpriced.
If you are looking for Authentic Thai food, this will definitely not be the right place.
