Best Sri Lankan food in Adelaide!
Super nice service and really great meals. Definitely reminds us of the food we had in Sri Lanka.
Malai Kofta, Dhal and Kothu were amazing!
Also, best naan we’ve ever had!
Will be back again very soon
This is a great family owned restaurant. We had my partner's 70 birthday party there for 25 people. All meals came out on time and as ordered.B can produce beautiful cakes if asked and did so for our celebration. Not many people know of his extra skills. Friends we have taken there want to go again.Prices are great and the food and service are excellent. We normally go in person but tonight I am about to order a takeaway as we are tired. This is where we go when we want a nice tasty meal.
Excellent, delicious, authentic curry at reasonable prices. The wife and husband who own it are lovely as well. My partner and I go at least once a fortnight, highly recommend!
I adore this place! I started getting take away every Friday night with my family about 10 years ago, it is the best curry I have ever had. The saag lamb, chicken curry and lamb vindaloo were favourites. I have since become vegetarian and all of their vegetarian dishes are so delicious. I believe the husband is the chef and the wife, absolute legend of a woman, is the front of house staff. It's a pretty small place so i would recommend booking ahead or ordering takeaway on the phone, even if there's not a menu just call and ask what you should order. You won't be disappointed. I cannot recommend this place enough.
Room for improvement ... We didn’t book for B & U, or pre-order – on-line menu was not accessible. It’s a small shop front, with about 30 seats. Our table was quite small, and I found the large plates used were cumbersome. The food was quite delicious, rice perfectly cooked and a spicy lamb curry.
Now for the negatives ....
We said when we arrived that we were happy to order whatever the cook had ready to go. The waiter said nothing was ready “ as we only cook fresh..” I found this hard to believe, simply not possible with “slow cooked” foods, so I asked how long it would take for some rice ? to which the waiter responded “ ..about one minute..” OK I said, then we will have some rice, what’s next ? She said that a “lamb” curry would be quickest, about 15 minutes – in fact it was much quicker, and very tasty. However, we didn’t order anything else, as we were not interested in waiting for something which – ironically- would be cooked too quickly !
Further annoyance was that we were provided with knife and fork but no spoon ( to eat rice and curry !!). I had to ask for a spoon ..I asked if I could use my own rain water which I had brought, she replied there was a pretty substantial “corkage” ( ? $8.00) and beer was about $7.00. We had a single beer then asked for the House water. The drinking water she offered was undrinkable ( compared to my rain water) tasting like a swimming pool. We were glad to leave in the end, and finished our eating at Coles on the way home.
What we really wanted – and naively expected - was an introduction to this restaurant, and the management could do that with a “special” : rice with a selection of curries, ready to go, for a bargain price ( I’d pay $20/person for that). For many customers, this would remove the uncertainty of ordering unfamiliar dishes, and would speed up serving considerably. There is nothing wrong with having basic items ( veg curry, rice, dahl, etc) ready to serve : “fresh cooked rice” is a crazy idea, same goes especially for meat dishes, which would never be cooked “a la carte” in Sri Lanka ( which I have never visited!) I am a “slow cook” myself, so I know how long to spend on these dishes.
Among other things, the “ a la carte” service seemed to make the waiter’s job much harder, and she appeared irritated and stressed.
I hope this restaurant can provide an easy, quick menu for the customers who don’t have all night ( and a large budget) to spend there. As it was, we didn’t spend our budget, so the restaurant lost that custom. I am somewhat disappointed that I didn’t get to appreciate more of the offerings this place must have somewhere.
I have to say, the place had several other tables who appeared quite happy with the service. Not everybody in Adelaide is as critical as me.
Great food and service. We have been regulars here for a number of years. Great food, especially the entrees. Prices are very reasonable and staff are always very friendly and attentive. Great place to try something a bit different.
Butter chicken. Better than Delhi spice. Yes I just said that!! I highly recommend it. People say service isn't that flash but I found it fine!
Fabulous food. We'll be back!!!
Menu not Vegan Friendly but it can be done. Had one of the best dhals ever at B & U. The menu was not the same as the take-away one that I found on the net which had dishes with coconut milk, the new menu had all the dishes with cream, but when requested they made it with coconut milk instead. It was delish! The meat eaters that I went with mostly enjoyed their meals. The heat of the dishes (medium) was just right for me. Would go again.
Yummy. Great take away place with good prices. Cosy place if you're eating in, don't expect top class service, but fine nonetheless. Spinach Lamb is a must try, delicious.
We ordered spicy lamb curry, Sri Lankan seafood curry, yellow rice and cheese naan with chilly flakes. Lamb curry tastes great and there are also mild and moderate to choose from. Seafood curry has a taste of coconut milk. And I love naans. Good experience.
Amazing amazing amazing! Incredible delicious food, welcoming staff, intimate cosy setting. Favourite place to dine out at in Adelaide. I am obsessed and will be back, often. Cannot speak more highly of this wonderful restaurant. Thank you for the best experience!
Love the Chicken Kotthu, and B&U does it just like back home in Sri Lanka, or even better, spices and the works.
A great place to be with your family.
Found a cool elephant really took the show but the food is also really good, recommend everything.
Great cosy location
We thoroughly enjoyed the Kottu a dish that any sri lankan craves
The owner lady was very pleasant and friendly
Would highly recommend...
Amazing, authentic food. Better than any restaurant I found in Sri Lanka myself! Highly recommended.
We visited for the first time tonight despite living only 2 minutes away! It was so good! Owners understand what vegan means and offer quite a few options. We chose the lentil dish and the potato/carrot curry. Both were full of flavour and serving size was huge! Samosas were delicious too.
Unfortunately the roti isn't vegan.
Owner was very friendly and chatty. We will definitely come again.
