Review The Bay Bakehouse - Maroubra

This is one of the rare cafes in the Eastern Suburbs that is always consistent with its coffee. It's always great. Every single time and no wondering if this is the day it's going to be a let down like most other cafes -- we all know how important it is to start the day with an awesome jolt of liquid gold. John and the staff are very friendly and an overall nice vibe filled with friendly locals.

Great coffee, delicious Vietnamese Bahn Mi made the traditional way, generous & gorgeous Phò, pies and pastry plus scrumdiddlyumptious cakes and slices. All served safely, efficiently with a big smile, covered appropriately for the times, but evidenced by a cheeky twinkle in the eye!!

Bought what looked very much like a sausage roll croissant. Turns out it just had two small ends of sausages on either side, facing out, giving the *illusion* of having a sausage throughout. Pretty deceptive and disappointing. The croissant itself was alright, at least.

This place has grown on me a lot. Great coffee. Friendly. Quirky. It’s busy for good reason. It is good. What I love about it most though is that it’s an interesting mixture of Australian culture. It’s run by a Vietnamese family and there’s some simple good value Vietnamese food. But they’ve also combined it with a traditional Australian bakery and there’s the usual things that you get with that too e.g. scones and donuts. The coffee is as good as any great Italian place. And then you’ve got a whole bunch of local Maroubra surfie type people coming in. It could be the quintessential Sydney cafe.

The bakery is a great convenient location and whilst there are some good bakery treats and bread, I find the service, coffee and Vietnamese food a bit lacking.

Asked for no chilli but they put it in anyway. Ruined it for me as I can't have spice unless I want to be ill for the rest of the day ☹️ if you're allergic to chill, don't eat here as they don't listen when you specifically say no chilli twice. Disappointed

I think this is the best coffee in Maroubra, there are cafes on either side and they are great choices for breakfast but can't compete when it comes to coffee. You'll notice the queue which is proof of the above, but they never have you waiting long. Seating indoors and out of your want some food too.

This bakery is an absoulte gem at Maroubra beach. We especially love all the Vietnamese stables such as: pho, beef salard, Banh Mi, and rice papaer rolls. Can't think of a week when we didn't go get something...so grateful...our firm local favourite.

Bakehouse has the best coffee in Maroubra beach. Service is great here, John and the crew are so friendly and in addition to being a great all-round bakery it is a nice spot for casual lunch or breakfast. The Vietnamese food is delicious, I love the bahn mi.

Great coffee and lovely staff :) The pho as well as the sweets available are reasonably priced and tasty! Can't go wrong at the Bakehouse. In particular I can recommend the cinnamon doughnuts and the Tumeric Latte with Coconut milk.

Bland food, unfriendly staff.. would not come back again. Way better cafes on either side of this one. I do value service and didn't get good service there, no thanks.

With sangers & bah minh to boot, plus a myriad of desserts and bakes to test your will-power, it's no wonder this little take away shop is a thriving beach-side hot spot.

This bakery down at Maroubra beach not only does the usual baked goods including pies, caked and bread, they also do coffee and some Vietnamese cuisine including Bahn mi and Pho. They also have a Vietnamese style brakfast on the menu that I am interested in trying. If I am to visit this bakery it is usually for the bahn mi. They do the standard pork and chicken, but if you are after something different they do lemon grass beef and a caramelised pork belly. The caramelised pork belly bahn mi is my choice and to add to it you can include BBQ pork. I would recommend stopping in for this alone and for a Vietnamese iced coffee.

This is a great place for a cheap and cheerful family breakfast. It suits our family perfectly because there is a mix of Vietnamese and bakery items on the menu - a decent pho, banh mi, bacon and egg rolls, and full bakery range. The coffee is great. The only downside is that we never quite receive what we order - coffee has a sugar, pork roll is chicken, or something like that, but it won't stop us coming back.

This cafe takes their coffee seriously.
Oh and kuddos to the barista who makes my chai latte in all my visits! It's goood. He remembered me and even gave five stars*.

*Delicious star cookies! :P
