Review The Henson - Marrickville

A Bunny Yay
Welcoming staff, family friendly service with a relaxed vibe. Great pub grub with delicious burgers and fresh chips. Met up with my friend who has a child and the staff were accommodating, making sure she didn't have to carry the baby chair by herself and cleaning each table between the guests leaving. The cocktails are worth the money, Lemon drop is fantastic and light, not too sweet or sour. This place would suit small or large gatherings, it can get busy so get in early or book a table in advance so you dont miss out. Space inside and outside with covered/shady spots and dog friendly too! There is a parent room and kids play area outside, but due to covid these are currently unavailable - fair enough, we can wait till things settle down. Cheers to the team at Henson, we will be back! Xxx

Great atmosphere, kids and pet friendly, good food and lovely staff. We had a great time here.

Great pub. Good vibe, family friendly and expansive beer selection. Food is outstanding. Can’t rate the dirty bird meal high enough - gives many of the local charcoal chicken places a run for its money. The soft serve desserts are a sweet addition

Lovely traditional local pub, dating back to 1936. They have a mix of the charming old interior, as well as a modern dining area and beer garden. The staff were particularly friendly and the music was great. The selection of beers was certainly decent, though maybe not as extensive as you'd hope for in the Inner West.

Had a steak and chips (with house gravy) out in the back garden, absolutely superb! Staff at the bar were super helpful and friendly too!
Greg Dowd
The selection of beers on tap is better than most pubs. I had an excellent oatmeal stout. The staff were friendly and helpful. The "Knuckle Sandwich" was generous and delicious with a nice spicy heat. If you are not a local, parking can be an issue.
Sixfoot & Salty
Great place with huge assortment of beers on tap and producing some mean burgers out of the kitchen

Nice pub, friendly staff and good service. On the downside the menu hasn't changed much or even one bit for the last 5 of so years and for this reason I probably only go once or twice a year when I used to go for lunch atleast once a month. Went for lunch on Sunday for the first time this year and couldn't face another burger or knuckle sandwich so had the lamb curry from the specials board which was pretty ordinary.

I’ve been here with my friends and I’ve ordered the cheese & meat board. Even if it seems the easier one to make, I’ve waited long time before to be served, and I was the only one without food for a while.<br/>I’ve tasted my friend dishes and they where not that tasty.<br/>The place is quite big, they also have an area with tables outside.<br/>It’s good for groups of people, but not exactly my type of place.

The pub itself is very nice for a nondescript location in the suburbs, with big open areas, good beers and a diverse crowd - very popular with families as kids are allowed everywhere and there's a good courtyard with a play area. The food's pretty fancy, with prices to match, but they undercooked everything. The chips were hardly touched because they were so dense, the haloumi and calamari both had tasty batters that were really chewy due to undercooking. The food was delivered in under 5 minutes - they really could have taken a bit longer with it.
Don't Believe The Hype
Its a nice family friendly pub and i like the pub from that perspective.<br/><br/>This review is about my experience eating dinner there.<br/>I got the brisket sandwich at dinner time and the meat was a bit dry (maybe it drys out over the day??)<br/>My girlfriend got the sushi salad bowl and her stomach was pretty upset for the next 24hrs so im not sure how fresh it was.<br/><br/>The slow cooked beef leg and the burgers looked pretty good so perhaps safer going the more classic pub food. options

It’s a gem along Illawarra Rd in Marrickville. Awesome selection of beer, wine and a little grocery of carefully selected cheeses including nibbles and sauces from around the world. The bottle shop has a top notch wine selection ready for takeaway. Food on offer is a mix of modern Australian and Asian fusion in a relaxed and modern space including a courtyard. The house bloody mary is a good starter drink to set the mood. I really like their Nasi Goreng, an Indonesian fried rice, very flavoursome.

This is seriously a little gem in the innerwest. Bridget and all the staff are wonderful. Nothing like going to one of your locals for s great feeed not expensive and happy faces behind the bar . What are you waiting for ?? Just do it !<br/>Did I mention very family friendly and pet friendly !<br/><br/>
Crème Brulee Crack
Great food and good choice of beers. Craft beers including young Henry's pale ale, and a gorgeous fruity Balter XPA. Relaxed vibe, lots of families with kids having a good time here too. Friendly staff

Great outdoor area, especially if you love dogs! The chicken wings were the best wings I’ve ever had!! I also ordered the Mac and cheese which was great also. Definitely coming back again for those wings!

Great food, great atmosphere and great location. Family friendly, with kids play pen. Also serves delicious cocktails. A little bit of wait time for food, but was worth the wait.

The Henson does a really good green curry snapper with pumpkin, green beans and rice. Don't make the error of leaving the pumpkin (a big slice with the skin on). Scoop it out, it all goes together quite well. The curry has a real sambal tang, hot but not burning. It also looks great - winner. The pork belly tacos with red pickle, pineapple, cilantro and chipotle are also good. There are several burgers. We had the grass-fed beef burger with beet relish, old bay mayo and chips, which was fairly typical of any pub burger. The duck shepherds pie with roasted sprouts and bacon sounded great, but was a little disappointing. The roast sprouts were hard and not that tasty and the potato on top wasn't baked properly, just mushy. The pub is family friendly, staff helpful and efficient and there is a great ball pit to keep the kids amused. Overall, a good experience.

We to the henson, which is a pretty good pub. Old school / new school meet in the inner west. Combines the best of both worlds. They have some good beers on tap including balter (surfer mick fannings company) we shared some small bites and watched the footy. Croquettes we're off the richter good, as were the parmesan and truffle fries.

Came here recently with some friends. The place was packed so we were lucky to find a seat. We grabbed a couple of burgers and sides all of which came out piping hot and delicious. Service was friendly but they did take a while to come and clear our table. Really good vibes here on a Saturday afternoon.

Love all the food! Went there a while ago when they had the old menu but everything was amazing! Fresh oyster and amazing Bloody Mary shot, nice and crispy buttermilk chicken wings, healthier version of mac and cheese, and a yummy lobster roll (old menu) tried their ice tea as well and it was refreshing. Will have to come back soon for a long overdue visit!

Booked a table at The Henson for 16 people for my birthday 3 weeks in advance. Spoke to a gentleman on the phone who confirmed. I called on the day of my birthday to confirm my booking again and spoke to a lady who was incredibly rude. Told me my booking wasn't on file, no apologies whatsoever. Then proceeded to say "look I'm trying to pull something out of my ass, maybe squeeze you in at 8:15pm".<br/><br/>As this was too late for me I hesitated and said "Hmm I'm not sure.." Before I could finish my sentence she rudely interrupted and said "Do you want the table or not?"<br/><br/>After that interraction No I don't want the table and our large group won't ever be coming back.<br/>

Situated in a two-storey Art Deco building in Marrickville, The Henson is a welcoming neighbourhood pub which caters to families and drinkers. The vibrant and lovely pub features an open kitchen and dining area with small round cafe tables and a billiard table as well as a thriving play area for kids and families. Old photographs of the hotel (the former Henson Park Hotel) are hanged around the pubs and published on the cover of the menu.<br/><br/>Like majority of my experiences with pub/bar food, The Henson has an extensive array of beers and alcohol from their beer garden where I got my pint of 4 Pines. However, food was subpar. Their signature KFC Haloumi burger was unsatisfactory with a burnt sesame bun and tasteless fried haloumi.
Judge Chimy
I have been eating the mushroom tacos from this joint for a few years now and they are real tasty. My only gripe is that they give you a heap of filling that is on a bed of 2 soft tacos so you end up having to reconstruct your own 2 tacos and then get the proportions of the filling all wrong. They should fill each taco side by side before it's served. That being said though it is a dam good taco flavour wise. Pair it with some hot chips coated in their ace selection of salty seasonings and you've got yourself a delicious vegan meal for under 20 bucks.
Eatwithmyfoodsafari
The place was pumping with a great Sunday vibe at this popular local. A good selection of kids meals and a dedicated play area makes the pub popular with families.
Amanda
Great food with an excellent selection of kids meals. Great entertainment for kids , good service with great prices . But it's a Bit out the way
Kevin Kwok
Very overpriced food. Set in a beer garden which was nice but I was expecting much more. Surprised at the prices for a pub in the middle of nowhere. Had the beef burger, it was ok but just very generic, nothing interesting about the taste and definitely not worth $19. Served with a small amount of frozen potato fries, was expecting at least chunky, hand cut or sweet potato fries. Also no sauce came with it. Mac and cheese was delicious though but the serving is quite small. Not impressed. Meh.

The Henson was buzzing on AFL grand day! The staff were fantastic. My partner and I enjoyed drinks at the bar, and were delighted by the truffle parmesan fries! We will definitely be back soon to try more food offerings.

Food and drink here just brilliant. Specially atmosphere here so good when you can take your kid in. This place keep me come back again and again

Arrive on the weekend and you'll find a buzzing venue full of families and groups enjoying the outdoor beer garden and American-cross-Asian inspired food. Music pumps around the venue during the day, which creates a fun, friendly vibe - it's the kind of place where you could easily spend a weekend afternoon chilling with friends. There are not as many pub classics on offer as there are American, Mexican and Asian favourites - think fried chicken tacos, karaage chicken burgers, bacon dashi ramen and mac n' cheese.

It may be that I've sampled some of the 16 beers on tap at this lovely pub, nestled in between family homes in a suburban street... But I love this place.<br/>I'm here on a Friday evening, the pub is full by 6:30pm - luckily I've been here since 5:30 to secure a spot... and I'm here on my own, and I would comfortably sit here on my own again.<br/>The atmosphere is lively, a mixture of easy going, up-beat songs of varying genres plays over the speakers in the front bar. The crowd of people is mixed, with couples, groups and people flying solo.<br/>The staff look happy, and that shines through in their attentive and friendly service. Tables and bar were cleared of empties before you even saw them.<br/>But the main reason I felt compelled to write a review is because of the food.<br/>This is hands down the most delicious vegetarian Burger I have eaten for... Since I don't know when!<br/>The k.f.c halloumi Burger with crunchy coleslaw and a healthy dose of BBQ sauce. Delicious combination of textures and flavours... And being vegetarian! And no nuts! Winning. Not to mention the cabinet of hot sauces...<br/>Get involved.

In the last few years, we have seen a trend in Sydney where pubs tried to transform their image to a more family-oriented establishment. One of the more successful pubs to have transformed their image is The Henson in Marrickville. They transformed the back of the pub into this family-friendly garden with a spacious place for the little ones to play games including ball pit.

My local haunt. Tried almost everything on the menu and nothing disappoints. Highly recommend the Karaage Chicken and KFC Haloumi burgers. Fantastic atmosphere, even on weeknights. Great selection of beers too! Staff always friendly, especially the bartenders. Always a good night out at the Henson.
ItstartswithaC
Great vibes whenever I come to the Henson although the food portions are on the smaller size the friendly service and great atmosphere definitely make up for it! This place is dog friendly and kid friendly with an enclosed play area for kids and doggy bowls for ur fur babies. One of my favorite places to eat :)
Russell Bunn
We were recommended the Henson by a few friends based on the kiddies play area and food.<br/>The was our first visit and won't be our last. The staff were very accommodating and made our daughter feel very welcome. Along with a pretty reasonable beer/wine selection the menu is one of the most gluten friendly pub menus in Sydney. Well worth a visit.
Veronica Frank
K.F.C halloumi & the tempeh burger were delicious...Lots of vegetarian options which is not common in the pub scene. Wish they had one closer to the North Shore because we'd be regulars!<br/><br/>Only downside is half the pub looks like it's unfinished and a bit grubby but the open courtyard and room off the little delicatessen make up for it. :)

Went here on Wednesday night for first time whih turned out to be Trivia night. The place was buzzing and packed. Really friendly bar staff and quick service. <br/>We sat outside and it has a great ambience. <br/>Ordered the squid for entre which wasn't so great, a bit too dry and oily, hardly tasted like squid. <br/>But mains were pretty good, medium well scotch fillet was slightly over cooked. and my partner got the barramundi which was great. Both main came with vegetable and salad, and they were freshly made and nice. <br/>will definitely go back.

Loved the look of the place, the menu had a great variety of dishes at reasonable prices and the atmosphere was great. A little bit of a Melbourne vibe. But the most important part the food was very disappointing. We had the crispy squid which was oily and stodgy, not crispy and certainly not tasty. We also ordered the Kumera chips which were quite good and the crispy skinned barramundi. The barramundi was very nice and well cooked, the vegetables were over cooked and bland and the chips undercooked and tasteless ( how do you stuff up a chip?). Maybe a Sunday lunch wasn't the right time to try this place as it was over run with screaming kids and dogs. Good place for families I guess.

Came here for a friend's birthday. Really liked the outdoor space. I had the miso salmon which I really enjoyed. Good flavour and salmon was well cooked. My partner ordered the prawn po boy. He was a bit disappointed with his choice.
Kravengerfoodie
Awesome bar food. Ambience is great for meet up or family gathering and even date. Had the ribs and it's a BOMB!! The mac n cheese is better than any dessert to end the meals..

This pub has a great relaxed, chilled atmosphere but it can be ruined for some by all the children running about. It's great for families that want to bring their little ones with the kids playroom located outside in the beer garden. <br/><br/>If kids don't bother you then this place is great for a meal with a great selection of craft beers as well. Prices are on par with other pubs in the area. Great spot for local families.

I came here for a quick lunch with work colleagues mid-week. The dining area and outdoor area was chockers and I soon found out why. The staff here are lovely - smiley and friendly, nothing is too difficult. The menu is a delight. Burgers, Po Boys, Salads, nibbles, and more. All bases covered, even with flavoured salts and condiments available in the unlikely event something should be slightly not to taste!<br/><br/>Tiger prawn po boy stacked with prawns, with creamy avocado, and pretty pink radish and onion topping with crisp shallots. Nice wine list to boot, with adequate turnover to ensure you don't get an iffy bottled opened for too long. <br/><br/>Lots of play area for the kids including a ball-pit equivalent, with a very colourful, area covered (and some uncovered) outdoor spots. Love it.

Hard to find parking here especially during busy periods but it's definitely worth it! Love how eclectic the menu is. Everything on their menu sounds delicious and it is!!! Great for group dinners as it's pretty casual and the atmosphere is pretty great.
Two Girls One Fork
This place is AH-mazing. We wanted to find a place in our local area that would suit a big bunch of our friends and this was it. Food for vegetarians, meat lovers, vegetarians, kids and HEAPS for anyone who is gluten intolerant. We tried the oyster shots as well as several burgers. The oyster shots were actually amazing and we were surprised at the quality of ingredients. The burgers... Not a complaint in the house. The beef burger had a perfectly cooked party (they asked how you want it cooked) as well as plenty of sauce and cheese. The Vegetarian option of a K.F.C Halouni burger was definitely inspired and super tasty. The haloumi was cut in generously large portions and the seasoning was amazing. The Pork Belly Burgers were the highlight. The pork was cooked evenly all the way through and wasn't too chewy from being overcooked or gristly from being undercooked. The kewpie Mayo was TO DIE FOR as well.<br/><br/>Add to the mix some friendly staff and heeeeeeaaps of local and international craft beers and you have a winner in your hands. Highly recommended. Support local!

Great food. The 'knuckle sandwich' (wagyu brisket sandwich) was tender and full of flavour and the tacos were very good too-we had the szechuan fish taco and the pork belly taco. Everything was awesome and I can't wait to come back and try their burgers and mains. <br/>Very lovely staff too. Good beer on tap!
Thefoodbotherer
This pub used to be rather lame but in recent years it has transformed into a great place for local craft beer and a fantastic bistro that is very kid friendly if you need that kind of place. The scallop and corn dish I had pre-Sydney Half Marathon feasting and the pulled meat sandwich with coleslaw which was my post SHM reward was finger licking good. So substantial. I love lots of sauce and this was super saucy.
Andrew Tilley
Cool pub with a casual vibe... Great for families or a few cheekies and feed with mates! Sweet little grocer to grab a few roadies as well.
Tortuguita Comiendo
Great place. Casual pub feel, kid-friendly and great good. Had the roasted baby pork ribs with ginger slaw and jacket potato which was all very delicious. The only complaint I would have is that they are not willing to allow any changes to the menu items but that's a very small complaint.
JJ
I love a good cheeseburger - and was very excited to try the burgers @ the Henson and decided to stick with the classic to see what they were like. I was unfortunately disappointed - the bread was stale, the beef was bland, and the entire thing was very difficult to eat. Despite this, the decor and staff were both lovely, and my friends still rave about this place - I'll definitely come back to give it one more chance but order something different off the menu!
Ben Sibson
Great local pub with a friendly atmosphere, pretty good food (although somewhat heavy on the deep fryer), some good vego options, good selection of beers, and now it has a mini deli that has a great selection of cheeses and cured meats. If you have a child, throw them in the ball pit out the back, and let them terrorise the other children. Everybody wins!
Nick Moffatt
My fav local. Very friendly. Front bar now the best coz no kids!!! Good outstanding. Trivia host on Wednesdays is FABULOUS! Get there early and have a soft shell crab burger and chips and try their Beer of the week! Awesome.
Miffy7
A friend was having their sons birthday party here and had one of their rooms set up with balloons and cake (even though we were sharing with other diners). They have a few rooms inside and outdoor seating area so the venue is quite spacious.<br/><br/>You order food at one counter and order drinks at the bar area, by the time we got our drinks and went to sit down the food came out! This was surprising given it was Saturday lunch and it was very busy with families and large groups. They have a good variety of food on their menu but I had their soft shell crab burger and my husband tried their pulled pork which both came on soft buns and a side of chips which were well cooked. I enjoyed the flavour of the soft shell crab but husband thought his pulled pork was just average.<br/><br/>It's a busy and noisy place but we enjoyed ourselves and out the back there is a ball room for kids to play in which was perfect for our toddler who didn't want to leave!
Liz Zee
Best vege burger around, the K.F.C Haloumi burger is soooo good. Also tried the tempeh burger previously which was also good, but the haloumi is to die for (whether you're vegetarian or not). This is my main choice for a meal out these days (and I'm not usually so into burgers). Awesome fries too, crunchy on the outside and soft inside. Nice decor and outdoor area, very ambient for a pub, feels like a trendy cafe as well. I've been midweek (very fast service) and on busy weekends and the wait hasn't felt too bad. On the wknd we were told there'd be a 45min wait (fair enough as they were jam packed), but the food probably came within 25-30min. Worth the wait. So tasty!!
Missfoodie
Lonnnnnnnng wait for food. Took the kids for a 7.00pm booking, didn't eat till 8.45pm. Had to ask twice how long. Staff were polite and food good. Play area also cool for the kids. But... Having to wait that long for food on a Wednesday not great.

lateraleating April 14, 2015 0 My lovely sister shouted me lunch at The Henson to celebrate my graduation (second Bachelor degree!). The American-themed menu has many gluten-free options (not indicated, so ask the staff). Portion sizes are also Americanised, so come with a big appetite. My favourite were the smoked pork baby-back ribs with chilli orange glaze, jacket potato, Pepe Saya crème fraiche + ginger slaw. Huge serving and everything was very tasty. We were delighted to see that they provide the small Pepe Saya rounds when you ask for butter to add to the potato. Smoked pork baby-back ribs ($26) The pork belly burger with pickles, iceberg lettuces, kimchi kewpie, jalapeño mustard & chips, which comes with corn tortillas when ordered gluten-free, wasn’t as good as the ribs. The pork was on the dry side, but I really enjoyed the sauces and the chips. Pork belly burger ($17) The Henson 91 Illawarra Road Marrickville NSW 2204 (02) 9569 5858 www.thehenson.com.au Share this:

The Henson was a great find. It’s fun, open and family friendly. There is a very welcoming atmosphere when you enter into this place. There were plenty of people of all ages here. Retirees, mothers groups with babies and young children who could play in the back section with a cubby-house and toys, and also young professionals on their lunch break. I really loved the shelves of sauces, spices and cutlery. There were five different salts you could spoon into little plastic containers to put on your food or particularly on fries I think. We ordered: Soft shell CRAB BURGER, old bay coleslaw, ice-berg, sriarcha & chips ($16) Smoked corn, celeriac, silverbeet & habernero chowder hot sourdough ($13) Rhubarb, quince & cider oat crumble, buttermilk ice-cream ($10) The soft shell crab burger. Delicious, big thumbs up. The soft shell crab was perfectly cooked, crispy, tender and succulent. Henson

...The Karaage (Japanese style fried chicken) Burger is packed full of flavours you wouldn’t expect on a burger and this may not be to everybody’s taste. The actual chicken itself is nice and crispy, well seasoned and is definitely worth a try if you’re after a chicken burger out of the norm.
Journey-fromwithin
But went with my instincts and ordered the pork belly. The thin strips of pork belly and bit of cackling were simply exploding in my mouth with goodness. This is also a spicy burger, but was it was all the more addicting with every bit. I also loved the soft yet toasted bun!
Little Eats Sydney
A mad, loud, frantic, kids taking over the joint, family friendly pub. Delicious gourmet pub grub and standard favourites, like burgers, fish and chips and tacos. Busy and frantic weekend evenings, more tranquil weekdays at lunchtime. A space where there’s something for everyone.

The Henson is one of the restaurants that has been sitting on my to-visit list since its creation. I remember seeing a photo of an absolutely gorgeous looking burger and going ‘I must have you.’ It’s exactly how I intend to approach online dating when I’ve dated all the fish in the sea.
Little Munch
The adult menu offers some seriously good pub food. We opted for the burgers at $16.00 - Beef Burger: manchengo, lettuce, B&B cucumbers, beetroot relish and chips; Blackened Barramundi Burger: coleslaw, tomato, dill pickles and chips. The burgers came on delicious brioche buns, which seems to be all the rage these days. Some other items that may tempt you are the 1/2 kilo of buttermilk chicken wings with verde picante or the Dirty Bird - 1/2 flame grilled ten spice chicken, yellow rice and raw slaw. There are some delicious sounding salads, vegetarian and Asian inspired options for those of you who aren't in to the dude food movement.
VegeTARAian Sydney
A lot of care goes into the food – they grow their own produce, source products from local suppliers and make almost everything in-house including the ingredients that are pickled and fermented. It’s refreshing to find a pub with so many decent veg options.
Next Stop: Food
From the outside, it just looks like a normal pub but when you enter, you'll be so surprised with the interior and vibe. Love this place for a meal or just a quick drink + snibble.
My Kitchen Stories
The menu has an eclectic mix of food most of which is locally sourced with some of it grown in the garden.

Located towards the end of Illawarra road close to Henson park, is the Henson hotel which from the outside looks like any other local watering hole. But when you step around the back, you're suddenly confronted with the squeals and giggles of kids and the smell of great food streaming out from the kitchen. The back of the Henson is a super cool beer garden which is kid and dog friendly. There is sufficient shaded areas and also a play room for the kids - perfect for young families looking for a place to bring everyone. Dogs are also welcome, although they must be leashed at all times. Apart from the awesome setting at the back, the food is both creative and tas

Often, with all the hubbub about celebrity chefs, Good Food Month can be mistakenly just associated with fine dining. Well it really is about celebrating all the aspects of good food, and this time, it’s about the pub grub. As part of the festivities, The Henson has put together a Wagyu Beef Cheek and Tail Cottage Pie with Roasted Brussel Sprouts and a Coopers Pale Ale for $25. Wagyu beef cheek and tail cottage pie, cheesy mash, and roasted brussel sprouts, and Coopers Pale Ale, $25 The pie was really comforting, and I love how the mash on the top was just slightly cheesy.
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
Your hipster pub life needn't stop when you have kids! You can bring your beard, your Kindle, your tatts, your children, yes, even your dog (true story) and save on funky Mac & Cheese ($14) . It’s rippled with silver beet, cauliflower and leek, and baked in an old-fashioned enamel-coated tin plate (very on-trend), making it super tasty and vegetarian-friendly. The rest of the menu is eclectic but inviting, with more effort put into flavour than fancy plating. There’s everything from Duck Shepherd’s Pie ($23) to the most expensive item - Brown Rice Kim Chee Goreng, Pork Belly, Fried Egg and Sambal ($24) – a curious collision of Indonesian and Korean that actually works. Partake of this bounty in The Backyard , my favourite part of a sensitive refit that allows the Art Nouveau meets Art Deco pub architecture to shine. Besides pot plants and a lemon tree, there’s a genius old garage converted into a kid pen... ...with ball pit and a window where you can watch them without

F came home one day after a doggy play date and announced that we should go The Henson: it is a dog-friendly pub with pretty darn good food. Say no more, he had me at “dog-friendly pub”! We’re always on the lookout for dog-friendly places, so I was pretty excited about coming here (Xander looks pretty happy about it too! Haha).

Love the food here. Buttermilk fried chicken and adobo taco is my usual.. Get the ice cream sandwiches too. They are amaze balls!! Very family orientated place. If you're worried about the kids sit in the bar.

Leonie. Just had a Knuckle Sandwich with my family with wagyu and it was the best. I have never had anything like it, it so good. We will return. <br/>Great looking blond waitress too.<br/> Thank you

Welcoming (open) space for parents with kids (in n out). Service friendly...food yeah... good, thought the bread could have been more wholesome for burger n sandwich, great play room for kiddies (need supervision..few steps).

No muppets at The Henson. My first visit to the revived Henson Park pub was last Saturday to dine with a group of 8. The pub looks really good, with friendly patrons and staff. I would definitely go back for a drink.<br/><br/>The dining was good, not exceptional, with the usual queue to order food and drinks that is the norm for so many places these days. I ate the crispy-skin Trinity Bay barramundi fillet with chips and a salad for $25. I thought the salad was the best part, with a light Italianate dressing. The crispy skin was excellent but the fish was average and the portion small, about 200 grams. The rest of the party went for the burgers, such as the pork belly burger, for $17 and a fairly ample meal. They offer a cheeseboard and desserts but we were too full. I also drank a very acceptable Longview Blue Cow Chardonnay ($40 a bottle) and there are various craft beers on tap and cocktails.<br/><br/>A nice spot for drinking; dining is optional but I would say many of the ethnic restaurants in Marrickville offer better value for money if you are looking for dinner..

Dont bother. Went there last night. Took an hour and a half for our meals to arrive, after they lost the order. Make sure you get a receipt for whatever you order so that you can prove that you bought a meal. If you pay cash you don't get one. The noise level verged on intolerable. When the food arrived it was adequate. Never will be too soon to go back.

A great experience. Because of urbanspoon ratings we decided to try it.<br/><br/>The food was excellent. I ordered the knuckle sandwich, and my wife the taco. The knuckle sandwich is based on brisket. The meat was as you might expect - cheap cut, cooked interestingly. The accompanying slaw was a perfect compliment. A very cute package, and a the price of $12, most acceptable. The chips were perfect.<br/><br/>We needed more food. We ordered a rhubarb crumble to share. We will go back.<br/><br/>It is a shame that the wines were not up to the standard of the food.<br/><br/>It is noisy, but what can you expect at such a great kid friendly establishment. There were many superlatives.

Over rated. I went there few months ago after all the recommendations I got from friends with kids. they told me how good the kids play area is and food is good as well. <br/>I didn't't like the place at all. there is a lot of high table and chairs which is not kids friendly, long waiting time for food and portion of the food are not really like pub meals which is normally is generous. taste is average. Kids play area is dirty and not supervised. it is not suit for kids under 4 I think.

We love this place! Great atmosphere, awesome food, every time!

What a pub!!!!. Booked a group of 30 here for my 30th birthday. I had been a couple of times before and really liked it. Tge staff were fantastic in helping with my event. Great table with lots of space and customer service was second to none. Food is great too. Highly recommend for a birthday with family (especially if you want kid friendly). Thanks Henson crew :)

Wow! Visited The Henson at the weekend with my family, and was stunned with the new look. My wife and I had the ‘dirty bird’ and the ‘knuckle sandwich’ and my children chose from the kids menu. The food was amazing, service was immaculate and the atmosphere was fabulous. 10/10

Long wait, poor service. 2 hour wait for food. Nice atmosphere of what potential would be a good local, ruined by lack of service. Can't comment on then quality of good because we left at the 1.5 hour mark and got a begrudged refund from the apathetic manager. Also don't get the Bloody Mary. It's gluggy.

So fantastic I don't want to share. The Henson is a great friendly pub. Everyone is welcome and the staff are great. The food is delicious for both adults and kids. <br/>Love it

Wonderful beer garden, food and staff. Tried out the Henson for lunch today. The staff were all so friendly and helpful, the food was reasonably priced and wonderful portion sizes and tasted fab. <br/>Couldn't ask more from a local pub. <br/>It's dog and child friendly also, an added bonus.

Average food loud music. Just had first and last dinner at The Henson I'm sorry to say.<br/><br/>Food very average: Snapper - dry, vegies- minimal, chips- over thick, undercooked, tasteless <br/> : Chicken Burger - left mostly uneaten by our friend<br/><br/>We had to complain about the volume of music - not only was it so loud our table of 6 could not enjoy a conversation even between 2, but the type of music was bewilderingly inappropriate crashing rock/garage band rubbish - unbelievably unsuitable to dine to. <br/>Thanks but no thanks, never any need to go there again.<br/>Waitresses were all wonderfully nice and helpful.

Great food craft beers all good. Luckily the pub is large enough that you can escape some of the more noisey parts.

Great meal with family and friends recently - kids loved the meals and the playroom was a hit. The duck pie was very good - and washed down well by the Young Henry's beers on tap. A welcome makeover of a neighbourhood pub. If you can, best to book, as it fills up very quickly.

Loved the food but be ready to WAIT! I ordered the pumpkin ravioli which was a really good combination of flavours and light enough not to weigh me down when I was done. Also ordered the churros chips for dessert to share with friends which was a nice finish to the meal. Only problem was we waited over an hour for our meals, and then when we did get our meals, they were all staggered by about a further 20 min. I get that it was super busy and we were a big table but I've been to restaurants & pubs that have handled this better. We even had to wait about 30-40 min for our desserts, which seemed a bit excessive given how simple they were. Service wasn't great, with the wait staff being too attentive & taking things away before we were done! We had to keep stopping them because they would just go to grab things off our table before asking (like our half eaten basket of sweet potato fries which we were all picking at, & the tiramisu in a jar which had about a quarter left!). My friend said when she came last week, one of the wait staff started wiping down the table while they were sitting there...a big no in hospitality. Although the food is great, this is not the kind of place you would go for your weekly pub meal. There are plenty of other pubs that serve decent food that is cheap & quick. This is more the place you go to when you want to catch up with friends or have a couple of drinks on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

There's a ball pit in the back garden. And a pitbull.. Great place. Lots of room. Top place for kids, smaller ones certainly, with play area. Food delish. Had the blackened barra burger and the knuckle sarnie. And the puppies are welcome too!

Food is definitely worth the wait! Don't give in of they say there is an hour wait, just order early. <br/>Bad ass half chook is just what I needed. Funky beer garden and friendly staff.

New favourite bistro. I took some family from out of town here last night. It was the first time I had been there too. Best menu I have seen in the inner west. The taco's were delicious and the staff were awesome. Will definitely have to come here more often.

A great addition to the area. Very kid friendly. Great service. This place has given me renewed faith in Gen Y. Great food - have tried almost the entire menu. Kids menu is a bit limited. Only thing me and my kids don't like is the chips.

Gets very busy on the weekend- and for good reason. Arrive early if you want a seat. Food can be a bit slow to arrive, but you forgive that when it's really busy.<br/><br/>Have been 3-4 times since the re-opening, and have loved my meal every time. Favourite would have to be the Mushrooms on Toast- so simple but packed with flavour. Really enjoyed the Mac n Cheese when the weather was colder. My partner is a big fan of the Knuckle Sandwich.<br/><br/>Highly recommended as a family-friendly place with a really interesting menu. Many more dishes I'm looking forward to trying in the future.

A few weeks ago .... Staff are the epitome of hipsterism with flannie shirts, tatts and beards. The wine list was great, we had a shiraz and a cab sav. Mudgee and Barossa I think, reasonably priced. A nice big room, but kinda weird having the heating on full bore, and the door wide open. I had the roast lamb, generous and varied veg, though everything a bit overcooked. My partner's steak was average. For dessert we shared date and apricot pudding, which didn't contain a single date or apricot - but was massive. I'm not a fan of giant American portions. I'd rather quality than quantity. A really average meal for above average price. Despite this, I would try the place again - other meals coming out looked good, and I suspect it's a nicer place to sit in warmer weather.

Have tried most of the menu now and all very impressive. Service is always really friendly but non-intrusive. Only complaint is price - for a couple of drinks and food we're always paying at least $45 a head (which is a heap on a small budget). Would be awesome if they had a daily /weekly lunch/dinner/drinks special - just a suggestion :)

Funky pub with a great atmosphere, great food and friendly staff. I'll be back to try some more items on the menu.

Great atmosphere and space, super friendly staff, nice selection of wines & beers and interesting menu. We got there about 6:15 on a Friday night and it was packed. V kid friendly but Kids menu is a bit limited / aimed at littlies. Mac n cheese disappointing, but karaage chicken burger and Kim chee goreng were yum. Aimed squarely at the inner westie, this place is a hit. We'll be back.
