Review Corinthian Rotisserie Restaurant - Marrickville

Rachel Chung
Really authentic Greek food with Greek music. Loved the vibe! They serve Lamb head which was amazing and the quail was absolutely amazing! Had the octopus too which was great. Customer service is not the friendliest though.

Booked a table on Australia Day and tried to order the grilled octopus and told they didn’t have any due to no deliveries on the day - only to witness others served this dish after us. When questioned, we were told the delivery arrived after 5 minutes after we ordered at 7pm on a public holiday. This restaurant is all about quantity rather than quality. If you’re a huge eater and require enormous portions to feel satisfied then this is the perfect place for you. Expect different service/treatment from locals/regulars.

Delicious authentic Greek cuisine that's been cooked homestyle. I think the restaurant has been in Marrickville for 40 years. The 18hr lamb is amazing and their calamari and octopus dishes are hard to fault. Generous servings as well so you'll be stuffed.

Authentic Greek food. Generous portions. Fresh and delicious. You know it’s good when it’s packed with Greeks and there is an old Greek lady coming out and taking away your dishes.

Best Greek food in Sydney. Has been operating since 1962. Our go to place with friends and family visiting from overseas and interstate. Will be back very soon hopefully.

The food was absolutely delicious. They were so quick in getting all the dishes out. Wow the atmosphere was fantastic. Definitely go there again. In fact I haven't stopped thinking about it. See you soon!🙂

Great food. Good atmosphere. "Yaya" is very welcoming and checking on everybody and always with a big smile. We love going here to have an authentic Greek feast. Highly recommend and book so you don't get disappointed.

Delightful and authentic Greek cuisine. You feel like you’re in Athens eating amongst locals in a intimate room. Staff are efficient and characterful. Highlights were the grilled octopus, fried calamari, and lamb. Do make a booking.

Great, delicious food, great family place and ambience to go to for a night out. My new favourite go to place to eat in or take out and restaurant has been renovated to a modern day Greek restaurant

Instantly my favourite Greek restaurant in Sydney! If it didn't renovate last year, it would still look like a typical run down taverna on the Greek Isles! Whilst this place do home cook Greek dishes like moussaka, you don't come here for home cook Greek food! My mates and I came on Saturday. For entree (no photos), we shared Greek salad, tzatziki and preserved sardines. The salad was great! Must be the feta. the tzatziki was really good. The olive oil probably made the difference. The low point was the sardines. It tasted like canned anchovies. I mean, I liked it but nothing to write about. For main, we got both the BBQ lamb and pork. We decided on that as we thought we could get more meat. Both were good. And as a free side for every main you get, we chose chips and eggplant. But for me, the best thing was the Octopus (came with potatoes not pictured) and the Lamb Head! The head came with brain, tongue and the eyeballs. Sounds off but tasted almost like heaven! The side was the white beans or fasolada, and... it was great! The service is good. Felt welcomed and the fresh off the boat (or plane) waiters were professional and friendly. TBH they could of been more attentive but nonetheless a great evening.I highly recommend the place for those after home cook Greek food and to try the Octopus and the Lamb Head. Just trust me with this! Can't wait to come back!

You won't notice it (depending on your ethnicity) but this place practices discrimination. If you're Greek, you get better service than if your're not. What you will notice is over the years, the quantity of food is on the decline. 20 years ago, after our dinner we had what amounted to 5 meals in doggy bags, the previous visit to this, I walked out hungry.
Picked up my partner (who is Greek) on a flight back from OS so a visit to the newly revamped Corinthian was on the cards. All very nicely done but you came here for the homeliness and food not the ambience. They've failed miserably because it just an updated version of the old venue but with upgraded prices.
No spanokopita or tara , at the price they're asking, I don't know what the haloumi is made of and the sample of tzatziki almost required a magnifying glass. Oh, and we had to ask for bread. The lamb (shoulder) was not cooked on the coals but in a pot and chips must have been very cheap this week.
All in all a disappointing experience given how good this place used to be. Even more saddening is how Sydney is loosing all vestige of real Greek food as proprietors gouge easy to please diners with mediocre food in search of a fast buck. And what year was it that $60 was the average cost for 2?

Terrible service! There was a fly in my wine. It was replaced with no apology. I ordered vegetables from the front window (simply put on a plate and serve) and yet I had to watch 3 tables of people who entered after me get their food. When I informed the manager that there’d already been a fly in my drink and now the food was taking forever all I got was ‘it’s coming’. Waited a bit longer still no food... decided to leave and the manager argued with me about paying for my wine! I told him that since there was a fly in it in the first place I wouldn’t be paying to which he accusingly replied ‘oh yeh how’d a fly get in your wine?’... I dunno mate, you’re running the show (apparently)

The place's decor hasn't changed in a long time. Lucky we booked. It was packed on a Saturday night. The food took a long time to come out
We found the Greek salad (unbroken feta is how the Greeks usually have it,better than your average salad) and Saganaki cheese (cheese on top of cheese, cheese overload) pretty nice but the calamari was lightly fried with not much taste and lamb was ok,has bones on it but what I liked most from that dish was the potatoes. They didn't even give us bread while giving it to other tables. It's just ok
Not sure if I will come back

Had a booking for two snd no table was available at the said time. After waiting 15 minutes and no sign of any table we left. Very disappointing.

Dined here for Sunday lunch and wasn't sure from the mixed reviews I had read.
I found the whole dining experience to be really enjoyable.
We had the octopus and Haloumi for entrees followed by the lamb and moussaka for mains. Food was tasty and came in a timely manner. House wine is $5 a glass and quite drinkable.

Found the service to be really good and nothing was overly priced for the gigantic portions we were supplied.

Will definitely come again!

Overall nothing special or inspiring. Very rustic and home style. Good service but food lacked flavour and was a bit pricey. Chips were good. Moussaka could do with more spice.

My mum was the one who introduced me to Corinthian Rotisserie.
We came here for a family dinner and order up a banquet of meat and seafood platters.
Their meat was salty and a little tough however, not juicy at all (which is what i expected) however they're seafood was delicious. I especially enjoyed the octopus.
Haven't been back since but they havent given me a significant reason not to be a returning customer.

A corinthian rotisserie where you can eat in or there's some takeaway in the rotisserie. It was about the only think open at 9:30 at night so popped in and decided to grab something. I got a huge slice of moussaka; lasagne, mince, eggplant, potato and bechemel sauce. Generous serving, accompanied with a bread roll for $12. Nice and tasty too.

The food here is pretty decent.
They're very generous with their portions, offering massive serving sizes for their platters. Their meat is quite salty however but their seafood platters definitely make up for that. I particularly enjoyed the octopus here.
They've also got some great dips. I highly recommend the tarama and the tzatsiki.
Corinthian is definitely a go to place if youre looking for a Greek feed in the Marickville area.

One of my top favorite places for takeaway. I love soft stewed veges & they have a huge choice displayed in trays in the window, just like in Greece & Turkey.

I'm sure you can have a very hit & miss experience dining in, but for less than $50 you can takeaway homestyle food for 4, with leftovers for lunch. My son once played with a nearby soccer team & we ate so well that winter - every practice night I'd come by the Corinthian! No frills & just good, honest value.

Never thought much of the roast meat. They have the standard moussaka, pastitsio (meat/pasta) & spanikopita, all OK. But for me the veges are a 5.0 - they'll do half/half containers & generously full. There's usually roast potatoes, okra, eggplant, giant white beans, peas/green beans, a mixture incl zucchini... I feel like getting in the car right now...

Roast Lamb. Fatty but delicious

Mariop. I like this place!
The food is tasteful without you needing to mortgage your house for the same food but being served in a higher quality establishment.
Those who are familiar on how the food should taste and how a tavern experience is overseas; this is the closest you will get without flying. Like I said, it is replicating a tavern experience, small, cosy, real service; not fake smiles, hearty and one of the best Greek Salads you will find. I love the meze you get, and more importantly the proper meals are closer to the mark in appearance and taste.
I always like going there, will always prefer it over others. Also, if you do not know what you want, but know how much you want to spend, just tell them, and they will do the rest for you.
A great place!

Mick B. Greek food is all about basic home style comfort food, and the Corinthinian ticks all the boxes.Service is adequate,no frills ,but the food is fantastic, large portions and always a good night out for family

DISCRIMINATORY. I attended this restaurant with my family on 25 February 2015. My younger brother, who has autism spectrum disorder, was with us. He has an assistance dog to help him with his many issues including social anxiety.

When we arrived, the manager met us kindly and was about to show us to our table. He then saw my brothers assistance dog and instantly became very aggressive. The dog, under anti discrimination law in Australia, is guaranteed access to all public spaces including restaurants. The effect of the law is such that denying access to someone on the basis of their having an assistance dog is akin to denying them access because of their disability.

After the manager asked us to tie up the dog outside, we explained the legal situation and the fact that we were able to bring the dog in, regardless of the various food regulations he cited. This just made him more aggressive. He then proceeded to ask my brother 'are you blind or something?'. We responded to this by explaining that dogs assist people with a wide range of disabilities and showing him the licence for the dog. He refused to accept it and asked us to tie the dog up outside or leave. My brother and mother then left as the situation was quite distressing.

The manager then proceeded to get more aggressive when it was just myself and my father. To the point where he appeared to be on the verge of physical violence. We informed him that a complaint would be made and that we would be leaving.

I have read many reviews of this restaurant, most of which are very positive. However, myself, my family, and my friends will never set foot in those doors again unless it is to inform the patrons of the appalling attitude of the proprietors towards people with disabilities. I would encourage anyone reading this to do the same. There are certainly much more accommodating restaurants in Marrickville to people with disabilities, promoting a truly inclusive society.

The staff here have terrible service and even worse all round humanity. Needless to say, this restaurant gets no stars from me.

What the hell was that?!?. So I go to this place tonight with two (female) friends, stand around for a couple minutes out front with nothing happening, one says to me "I guess we just take a seat?" and so we did. Then proceeded to get brutally told off by the most aggressive waiter in Sydney for doing so. Him: "you don't just walk into a (half empty) and place sit wherever you like!" me: "you want us to leave?" him: "I'm telling you how it is!" So we left, and won't be coming back.

Dislike. I left angry that I had spent so much money on such bad food

Forget dining it - It's all about the Take-away. Have read a few bad reviews on here, and to be honest, they seem fair enough. The service IS blunt. The decor is not great. And it has definitely declined over the 5 years I've been going there.

That said, I thoroughly enjoy a take-away container of roast lamb and veg every now and then. Especially after a few beers when there's no plan for dinner. $12 feeds 2 comfortably. Good, hearty, tasty stuff.

Greatest Greek barbecue. Went last night with wife and grown-up kids expecting nothing special. How wrong I was. This is good old-fashioned Greek charcoal barbecuing at its best. We ordered the octopus, barbecued lamb and sheep's head. All three went very well with a terrific salad, skordalia and tzasiki. Don't forget to inspect the sheep's heads on the way in, because they come served without the bones. The place buzzed with people (probably of Greek heritage) enjoying themselves as much as we did. Service unfussy and efficient. Thank heaven no one asked how we were enjoying the meal or how our day had gone so far. Will be back soon.

Terrible experience. 1. .... Terrible experience.

1. Hostile service.

2. Mediocre food - one BBQ platter was too bland & too dry to swallow, the other platter had burnt quails. We didn't complain but politely doggy bagged the rest (for the dog).

3. They rushed us to order the main meal which we were unsyre of, yet took their time bringing the food out.

4. Then they charged us a price not consistent with the menu. When the price was questioned (as the final cost was unexpected), they said they had already given us a discount which they would now revoke since we questioned them. ???

5. Finally, they accused us of recording them. We were using our mobile phone to calculate the prices & to split the bill. But they said sometimes people do record them. I wonder why? Poor service, unplattable food perhaps?

6. Nasty experience overall. The only redeeming aspect was the entrées were ok. But my friend has been there before & apparently portions sizes vary for different customers ordering the same sized dish. Who knows why?

In summary, we were less than impressed. They even grabbed the money off us before we could check it was correct.

Shame on them for their hostile service & at best, very average food.

Our recommendation is that if you prefer better food, manners & service than this, you should definitely sample your Greek cuisine & experience els1ewhIt will be time & money far better spent.

Let down. Greek lamb was dry as...over salted...this place has gone backwards...a pity

Traditional Old Style, good value. We had a Sunday meal here and have been a few times in the past.

The restaurant is usually quite busy and they don't have that many waiting staff.

Despite that, the meals were served very efficiently and the waiter friendly, with good service.

Meals were good quality, very large portions and great value for money which included the wine as well, with the option to buy a range of Greek wines.

The atmosphere is also traditional, authentic Greek.

Succulent Lamb Cutlets $20. A great, hearty meal of 4 lamb grilled cutlets (that's about $15 alone in raw ingredients from the butcher), accompanied by veg rather than chips. Cutlets were not too fatty, had enough meat, certainly were cooked through, but not ruined. The veg comprised the usual rice and potatoes, but also a generous amount of a tasty tomato based veg casserole of ocra, zucchini, onion, broad beans and french beans, and also a serve of peas..... I ordered a small greek salad ($12) which would have been enough for 2 people for a starter course. It comprised a SMALL amount of lettuce, with lots of tomatoes, cucumber, plenty of tasty, fleshy olives, onion, green capsicum and hot green peppers, and oil and vinegar dressing, but curiously no oregano or other herbs. Plenty of fetta on top. More than satisfying, I had to leave half of it behind.
House red wine, 1 glass, $4.50.
COMPLIMENTARY BREAD ROLL, hearty, thick crusty white bread, nicely warmed up....None of your stupid oil soaked slices.
I was checking out this restaurant personally to see if I want to bring 6 friends next weekend, due to the very mixed reviews here, and YES, I do and I will.....
The waiter was typically Greek in that he was a little brusque at first, but certainly not rude, and I received a genuine "Thank you" from him and the kitchen staff as I left.... $36 all up for 1 person. Not cheap, but the ingredients in Greek food are expensive, and the portions here are generous. I have no connection with this restaurant.

Bleh. Everything was dripping in salt, the Taramasalata, Lamb, Souvlaki, Haloumi, everything tasted like it had been drowned in salt.

The Souvlaki was as tough as an old tyre, Bread was bland and unpleasant, the roast lamb was nice enough, but at $35/kg, I expect more (Given Roast pork or Roast duck is less than half this next door, and goes through numerous processes). The taramasalata was extremely vinegary and salty with almost no Tarama flavour and was more akin to eating salt and vinegar chips. I don't think I'd be back again
MadamImAdam
This place was once brilliant for their takeaway lamb and veg.... Lately it has suffered- the prices have increased and the quality has unfortunately declined. It's still good- but alas no longer my weekly Greek treat.

AAA. Real Greek food, the way it should be.

Good But Not Great. Learnt about this place from friends and the real drawcard was the fact they are open late and do good home style Greek food. The vibe is very typical Greek taverna, the service is brusque and direct. The mixed hot entree plate was great and combined with the mixed cold entree plate would be a perfect meal for two. The doughy white bread rolls were a nice touch in that they were served warm - I'm always happy to receive a warmed bread roll! The mains we chose (moussaka and lamb cutlets with vegetables) were too large and the vegetables over-cooked - just like my Yia Yia would serve her meals, so quite comforting in that sense. The prices reflect the size of the servings more than the quality of the meals. So all in all a comforting meal, albeit a little more like Yia Yia's cooking than is good when you're paying these prices. Will I go back? Yes, maybe if it's late and I'm hungry and missing my Yia Yia.

An embarassment for greeks. I went to the Corinthian with my girlfriend on a Saturday night. ordered grilled octopus, souvlaki and lamb cutlets, a salad and taramasalata dip.

souvlaki, was 2 skewers, not marinated and overcooked till it was dry. the dish was mostly chips though, and the lamb cutlets came with a lot of chips too. although the cutlets themselves tasted nice, but small portion also for the price. the octopus was great.

the Greek salad, was filled with lettuce and massive chunks of brown onion, it could hardly be called a Greek salad. shocking

the taramasalata was so sour and acidic, it was as if they used vinegar to make it. and it cost $9 for a small plate.

when we ordered the waiter asked if we wanted a drink, but we said just water, so he came back with 2 bottles of mount Franklin water. i figured seeing as ill be paying 3-4$ for water i may as well exchange 1 bottle for a beer. The waiter suggested i try a Greek beer, which i was curious on so i did. it cost $11 for a single bottle.

overall we found the poor quality of souvlaki and the poorly made Greek salad, the excess charge for water and the rip off price of the beer, in excusable. $92 for dinner for 2 in a taverna with plastic tablecloths, and plastic fake grapes, and cheesy 50's Greek music in marrickville is ridiculous.

p.s they only accept cash even though they've been established for decades in the area.

Food was yummy, agree with what other reviews say about the service but after talking to the people at the table next us we realized that it's simply a super busy totally family run restaurant, and yes it reminded us of manual from faulty towers but the food was served quickly and it was yummy. We had a Greek salad and tzatziki, and then lamb cutlets ( which tasted great but slightly overcooked) and the souvlakia. Slight annoyances were the fact that there was no ice bucket for our wine (even after we asked) and that it's cash payment only. Would go back as it's yummy but not for a regular thing.

Great greek. Love this place, service is always very blunt but it just adds to the authenticity of the joint. Great lamb!! Good if you want a filling meal that will send you on your way with a smile.

Love it! I recall mum and taking us there for dinner when I was very young. The food, atmosphere and service is just as good today. Simple authentic Greek food at it's best.

Greek home food.. We found this place by accident. We could have been in Rhodes. I shot next door for a nice bottle of vino and the food deserved it, fantastic
Great Food ,Great Prices. Expect very little elbow room if you rock up late but as I said very authentic food and ambiance.
Perama tonight will be an interesting comparison.
Michael Robinson
Got the mousaka... Limited take away menu, but took a recommendation... Comfort food at it's best... Looks cute inside, so will definately be heading back to try the full menu! Cheaper meals than most other joints around m'ville for the portions, and don't be fooled by the limited selection in the window... Can't wait for our next visit...
Lisa
Yummy is am understatement! Best haloumi, lamb & calamari, I ate way too much but I'd do it again tomorrow!!!

The best lamb and halomi in Sydney. Great simple Greek food and fantastic service.
