Review Hanoi Quan Restaurant - Marrickville

Their Phos never disappoint. The broth is unique and authentic. Strongly recommend Free range chicken Pho. Generous portion too.

The food here was pretty average. Many of the dishes were a bit bland for my liking. The service was fast however and staff reasonably friendly. The prices were also pretty cheap which is a plus. Honestly the highlight for me was the sting rays in the many tanks along the wall, which are great to watch.

Being transported to Ha Noi may be a concept requiring some pause of late. But I think there's plenty to recommend this place as a safer option. The food is home cooked, and largely pretty tasty, though not always the "full invasion" of texture and spice you might find 8 hours away. The fresh spring rolls have it all going on: tastier than any I've had since making the trip past the once DMZ. The special beef soup is about as special as Kathmandu perpetual sale, but does the trick. The salt and pepper tofu is a step above the norm, and the rest goes as you would expect. The bill is paid by bank transfer, which may cause distress. You'll be told the damage verbally...trust is a beautiful thing. If you love continuously watching skate attempting escape (which I would caution them against) their glass cell, you'll be in heaven here...me? I would prefer the de rigeur travel posters...

One of the best pho places in Sydney. Their Pho flavours are more towards the northern style (Hanoi), which is very different from those at restaurants in Bankstown or Cabbramatta (i.e. southern style).

If you are seeking an authentic taste of Vietnam you are never disappointment when food is brought out to the table. Casual dining and close to the city. The Pho, the mien, the rice and even to the congee your tastebuds are immediately taken to the streets of Vietnam, whether you've been there or not.

Love this place. Always attentive service and hearty, proper Vietnamese fare. Young fella that runs the shop most days around lunch time is really friendly and never forgets a face or conversation.

We visited this old place recently and were quite surprised that the interior is now renovated and look nicer. We ordered two dishes, i.e. steam-rice with shaking beef and their signature dish of stir-fried rice noodle with sliced beef. Both dishes are good but we especially like the rice noodle (pho xao thit bo). The cooking technique is great and the ingredients (e.g. beef) are fresh and good quality. On the next visit, we also ordered the Hanoi-style pho dac biet soup and rice vermicelli bun salad with grilled pork. They're all nice dishes and we love the soup with more scallions and cilantro making it more aromatic to enjoy. The beef meats and meatballs are also nice. Service and ambience are great for a small suburban eatery. We love the fact that they put lots of Vietnamese condiments on the table and especially loved the chilly satay sauce and the chopped chilly with vinegar. The prices on the menu are reasonable and you can pay with credit cards (inc Amex) with no surcharge.

Not a fancy place! A little dark and messy looking from outside. Do not let it fool you. It offers the cheapest and biggest portion of Pho in the city. Very delicious Pho! I like beef option more than chicken. Vietnamese families come here and chat with the owner. Lots of food options and all taste pretty good. Pho is still the best though! :)

Delicious and authentic Vietnamese food and pho. I ordered the chicken pho which was generous in size and very tasty.

After 6 months in Sydney, I’ve found a Northern Pho and it tasted delicious. However, the restaurant space was small and it’s not easy to find a comfort private table for two people, therefore I only give it 4 stars.

If ur a fan of Northern Vietnamese food then this is a MUST!
Totally amazed by the flavour of dishes with broth. I've tried 1/3 of the menu and love each of those. Will come back for more high quality food 😉

FAVE PLACE IN THE WORLD. Can’t believe they don’t have higher reviews! I’ve tried other phos and Vietnamese restaurants and none compare to theirs. I promise!!! Must try!!!

Fast served, the price is very cheap. The vermicelli salad is not so bad but doesn't feel much extraordinary. Don't get me wrong though - it was good. I, however, don't feel safe to eat there due to my first impression onsite. The pickled garlic and side spices look old - even garlic was turning to purple or blue. I had my foods while being very cautious. I gave three because the taste of foods are generally good and the price is very cheap. The place was maintained clearly but somehow the small of the weird pickled onions and garlic at the place gives me warnings.

Beef pho tastes alright. But I found a shard of plastic in the pho and got compensated with free dessert. #winning but 100% would not reccomend.

Fast serve, friendly staffs, taste and well cooked foods, kindly have a vegetarian section, which is very convenient for vegetarian people, very good price, nice place for a casual meal

I was impressed with this restaurant as I enter the restaurant. It was busy the day I visited this place and I saw a lot of people smiling as they ate their pho. As you enter the door you are greeted by a muscular Vietnamese bloke, as we come in he smiled and welcomed us.

He gave us their menu and told us about the restaurant specialty. We ordered pho with beef balls which comes with the chinese fried stick and a large fried rice which was pretty nice. The food came in fast and the pho had a nice scent which made us dribble on the spot. The portion is pretty good, thry gave us 50% rice noodles, 25% rare beef and 25% beef balls.

This is a place to go for a casual pho or vietnamese food, their price are pretty affordable. It is around 10 - 13 dollars per pho and other mains are around the same price.

Grew up on Vietnamese food, still often venture to Flemington, Bankstown or Cabramatta for the good stuff. Marrickville is a growing hub for Vietnamese food and still boasts of the best pork roll I've ever had in the inner west. This restaurant however is very average. Average prices and average service. Hygiene was highly questionable (saw lady drop rice papers rolls on the floor and then picked them up and continued wrapping spring rolls with them).

Ignoring all this and focusing on the most quintessential part of any Vietnamese restaurant, the food, as I can honestly forgive all the above if the food is absolutely amazing (yes, even the hygiene issue because all asians know the dodgiest restaurants serve the best food). Food was still average at most. Flavours seemed a bit lacking but portion sizes were ok for the price.

Probably won't go again as I know of better places but I'd still give this place a try if you haven't found your Vietnamese staple yet.

A great pick for a quick, cheap and tasty Vietnamese dinner! Very authentic food and service and an extensive menu. Cash only, these guys do a great viet coffee too!

From the communal tables to the eclectic artefacts, there's a lot going on in this quant little restaurant. But don't let that distract you. The locals love it and for good reason too because the first time I tried their pho duc biet (combination), I was enamoured by the amount of beef, tripe, tendon, and balls they managed to fit into the one dish. In turn, the broth was thick, flavoursome and hit all the right notes. Cheap as chips too!

Yesterday however, my broth was a little sad and lacking in the oomph I witnessed previously, with the ratio of meat to noodles also starkly different. My bf, (being a regular and avid diner) scoffed and exclaimed 'even the bowl feels lighter!' Prices have gone up steadily to $13. Still a great feed, but just not quite the same. :(

Great little spot with authentic-style Vietnamese, swift service and very fair prices. The food is flavoursome and the portions are very generous, with the pho one of the biggest I've seen.

Pholicious. Authentic deeeelish pho with large servings. Yes the lady is no non-sense but I think it adds to the experience (she goes with the furniture). She brings me the pho and I'm happy.

we ordered well, and it tasted great – as expected – rich in deliciousness and freshness and generously served. We enjoyed our meal immensely

This is old school Vietnamese food at its best – generous, hearty servings of flavoursome food in a casual, boisterous environment. The kitsch, carved wooden décor, boxes overflowing with lemons on the crammed shelves and garish plastic dishrack visible through the front counter are all reminiscent of little finds down a Hanoi alley. The salt and pepper squid is delicious (and massive – think enough for 4-6 people to share) and the lemongrass and chilli prawns are heaven.

Ha Noi Quan’s bun cha deserves its excellent reputation. The pork is slightly caramelised, crispy and fragrant; the salad crisp and herbaceous; the dressing a delicately balanced. Lush. Next arrives salt and pepper prawns. They are fresh, crisp, and have loads of the delicious garlic/chilli/fried shallot sprinkles which I LOVE. Om nom nom!

What gives it wow factor is a herb that we were unable to identify, it has a 'grassy' flavour that makes the broth taste super fresh.
RidiculouslyGood
Rudeness with an extra serving of angry. Been there twice. Won't be going back. Both times the staff are extremely rude. No Hello. No smile. No thanks. Plenty of rudeness.
If the staff do not care about the customers, I am sure they care less about the cleanliness and quality of the food.

Authentic, cheap and delicious. Best Vietnamese I have had in Sydney. Its definitely no frills, like being teleported to Hanoi. Best dishes always the Bun Cha Gio, golden pancake, duck salad, salt pepper squid, rice paper rolls and their pho is pretty good too. Yeah, the lady is pretty no nonsense, but when I am hungry I really don't wanna mess around, so I think she rules. The prices are incredibly reasonable, but they don't take cards so bring cash!

A review for Hanoi Quan describes the lady that runs the place as graceless arrogant pig (along with the rest of the staff) which was semi true at first , but she actually ended up being a “diamond in the rough” and we were quite satisfied with the service

The place was packed and we had to wait 10 minutes for a table

Had 4 x dishes and all were excellent and full of flavor

Beef Pho (YUMMY)
Seafood Pho (YUMMY)
Beef with egg noodles
Chilli Chicken

Prices ridiculously reasonable

Been back a few times

Our regular.... Ha Noi Quan has been our regular for the past 1 or so. We have been going there since we tried EVERY other Vietnamese restaurant in Marrickville! It makes us feel like we are back in Hanoi or Hoi An our favourite places to visit. The service is very typical of traditional eateries in Vietnam, no smiles but you get the food fast, and the decor is a little wild but it adds to the atmosphere.... Obviously the food is why we keep on going back, I highly recommend the Beef ball Pho with tripe (and all the trimmings), the fresh spring rolls and the shaking beef.
Food Lover
Tasty pho but... Yes,it's true the staff are the most graceless people I have ever met and you get the evil eye if you linger for a conversation after you finish eating the main. Have been there several times for flavoursome pho but am fading under the weight of abrupt, angry syllables. We're not asking for much and are prepared to bring our sense of humour but you can have much nicer experiences elsewhere.

Outstanding, tip top, the real deal. Genuine, authentic Vietnamese cuisine. It doesn't get any better than this in Australia!

Yummo. I've lived here in Marrickville a long time and vowed to try every Beef Pho in every restaurant, I've failed to do that. I used to think Tra Mi was the best, I still think it's good, or the best that they do on their menu, in my opinion.

I've eaten at Ha Noi quite a few times and I think their food is great, and I've enjoyed their Pho in the past, but tonight I bought one take away, it was the best I've had from there, just fantastic. Maybe a different chef tonight as restaurants must have more than one when their open all day and night. Anyway, so glad as I only live across the road. I read a review about their pancake so I'll try that next time. The seafood fried rice is good if that ever takes your fancy.
Dumb Dog
Shut up bzlockdown you dumb dog.
This place is awesome, yes the portions are big but the food is good so why complain? You get leftovers!
Best dishes so far: crispy chicken with red ride (rice), shaking need with special fried rice and the custard apple drink!
Michael Keenan
Love this place. The staff are sweet and welcoming and the food while not fine dining is flavourful and very generous. Food comes quick and in no particular order. They will direct you in your order which is fun, let them take charge. After a busy days trading be careful as the floor gets a little slippery.

I will not be back. I was appalled by the level of service that I had at this restaurant . The lady who served me was rude and unwelcoming. When the food arrived, she glared at us as we scrambled to move our cutlery aside so she could place it on the table. When she placed it on the table, she spilled the hot soup on my hand. She did not apologise and actually looked at me with contempt! It was not just me that felt this, my whole group of friends felt very uncomfortable.

When it came time to pay for the bill, we called her several times. Mind you, the place was half empty at the time so it was not as though they were too busy to serve us.

The food did not make up for the lack of customer service. The broth was very watered down, the summer rolls were unappetizing and the mains were unnecessary large servings lacking any substance. It was disappointing considering I had heard some good reviews of the place but the food I had ate not live up to this.

If you want real Vietnamese food rich in flavour and you get treated like a human being, go to Cabramatta. DO not come here. I learnt my lesson

This place is a gem. Great value for great food. Portions are massive - wear loose pants!

Tasty fast and always busy! Hanoi bun cha is a very cheap quick dinner. I've eaten here at least 10 times!
